I got my MDA Vario 2 to UNLOCK!!! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Ok, I'm just ecstatic b/c I just got my Vario II unlocked! I did have to pay for it but I believe anyone can do it (I'm in the US and it was just horrible when I got the Vario 2 and it was locked to the T-mobile UK when I us T-mobile US and they weren't compatible--but this process worked and should work to unlock it to all GSM networks).
Well here's what I did --I bought the unlock code (38 USD) from www.gsmliberty.com and then downloaded the unlocking program from www.imei-check.co.uk/m3100unlock.php I followed the instructions for the "imei-check" page with the unlock code from the gsmliberty page (b/c they didn't have the proper unlocking program, but "imei-check" did). So I had to do it a few times, but if you remove your microSD and even the "spacer" it should work. (I tried it once and it didn't work; I reset the device then removed the "plastic microSD spacer" and then it worked--I'm not sure if that was the problem or not--we are just in the beginning stages of this development.)
Ok, so if you do it PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE download the USB monitoring programs as it seems the developers are in need of the code you can retrieve from the usb reads. Save the log files and let us know when you get them.
The first usb monitoring program is from http://www.hhdsoftware.com/Products/home/usb-monitor.html and download the trial. The second is from http://www.sourcequest.com/template.jsp;jsessionid=EDF03FE41E63246BF3446E94D94ABE03?PAGE_ID=homeTry and you can download the trial there too.
Please help the developers to figure out why this worked. Everyone's effort is needed!
If you need any other info from me, let me know and I'll do my best to help out with this endeavor.
[It's a bummer b/c I had been monitoring all my USB activity with the USB Monitor and then the SourceQuest one as well, but I kept having to restart and reset my device and thought I wouldn't have any luck, so the last time I did it, I didn't run those programs, and of course that's the time it work--wouldn't you know.]

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but you paid money to this company who appear to be providing codes for IMEI-Check's technology either legitimately, or, more likely, fraudulently. You then ask everyone else to spend money with this same company, and even ask them to help reverse engineer the original technology which IMEI-Check have spent time and money developing?
So, would it be fair to assume you work for GSM Liberty?

EH ? I don't get it ?
Why not just pay the $38 straight to IMEI-check and be done with it ?
Aside from the moral issue - I could understand (or at least see the point ) if the other company were selling codes for a lower price - but to suggest people pay the same amount to a third party company for the same code to use with IMEI check's unlocker is wierd , to say the least !
OR am I missing something ?

I'm not a spy.
I do apologize. I didn't realize that IMEI-check was working for the Vario 2, so when I found out that the gsmliberty unlocking was working I thought I'd tell everybody. (Originally IMEI-check wasn't able to unlock the Vario 2--there was reported problems on the other forums.)
So I looked for another option. And of course after you guys wrote, I see IMEI-check can unlock it, so I didn't mean any harm or immoral action--just development of the unlcoking software for the xda developers.

Cheaper to get the unlock code from t-mobile

does anyone know of a way to unlock the phone with any software from xda developers?

Any alternative unlocking method for white X01HT

Hi,
While all of us are patiently waiting for pof to release his updated simunlock tool for the new batches of X01HT. Has anyone of us tried alternative methods?
Below are my findings:
1. http://imei-check.co.uk/m3100unlock.php Does not support white X01HT
2. http://www.jictechnology.co.uk/products/jic_nextgen_server.shtml Not clearly indicated whether it is supported or not.
3. http://www.mobile2mobile.net/unlock/RemoteunlockingHTCPocketPC.htm ???
I have made an interesting observation. There are many ebay sellers selling unlocked white X01HT. So are they so lucky that they could get unpowered white X01HT, unlock it with POF's tool or they have another way to unlock it?
Cheers
i send mail JIC.
mobilemobile.net can't unlock.
Note: Softbank X01HT SPL1.09 and radio 1.14.00.10 are not supported for unlocking.

Is there other unlocker?
I am still trying to find one, No luck!
Possible unlock with JIC nextgen server?
I have purchased a credit to test with the above provider. In so far. they are the only one that says can unlock any version.
http://www.nextgenserver.com/
I would assume their tech support is knowledgeable about their product as they have told me multiple times it will work.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts, the unlock client will hang at "negotiating with server....." the tech helped to diagnose and claimed that they are too many hops and long latency between my isp and theirs. As such, it will never work.
I still believe is their ability to unlock new rom after April 2007. Is there anyone in the UK whom would like to try it out? I don't think there should be any more hop/latency excuse for UK customers.
Cheers
I can get codes to do unlock. PM for details.
edit: plz wait until I receive confirmation that the code works before requesting any. Keep the board clean and do not post here.
Is it $50 why?

blackhicks ordered a code from me. he will keep this thread updated when he gets his code.
and pof got a freebie that unlocked one of his.
im also waiting for the code
and may pof will succed in upgrading the radio rom
If your phone is asking for a code, do not try to enter code unless you KNOW its the code. Too many attempts and the phone may not be unlockable by code and you will have to wait for another software unlocker like pof's v3a (v4a?).
The Wait is over
Guys,
It's done! Kevin's code worked flawlessly...
I know it's not free, but I waited 3 months for it. It's worth every cent and at least now I can use my phone like a phone
Well there are limitations like no radio upgrades, radio boot loader cannot be changed ...but other than that, no issue with phone function.
I did ran into some problem initially as I could not "trigger" the ask for unlock code screen. I tried doing the [email protected] command with no avail partly due to bootloader version. Eventually I gave up and tried flashing it to the Docomo rom. Upon power up, the unlock screen came out, punched in the magic number and the phone came to life...
A word about Kevin, he is a 5 Stars seller, for a moment, I thought he came from a city that never sleeps... Great seller!!
Cheers

A very recommended seller, fast and generous. I'll collect more phone to you
Thanks Kev
yeah, have you ever sleep
Just to let everyone know. I only have a couple of codes left and it will be first come first serve until they are gone.
I don't know if I will be getting more codes right now, but I might in a few weeks (I am kind of broke right now).
When I run out of codes, I will post here and tell where you can get the codes after mine run out.
This is not my business; I was just trying to help out a few people. The person I get the codes from is the same attitude, so he can be trusted as well! Good luck everyone!
Thanks to everyone,
Kevin

Unlock Code for Post April Hermes/8525

Free unlock or Myth?

Hi people, I am looking for some X10 mini pro's to buy, but I mostly get people selling them in Spain, locked to Vodafone Spain.
I have seen some people advertise in the UK saying that they will provide a CD with the instructions to unlock your SE X10 mini pro for free.
Is this possible, or are they just trying to fool you into buying their phone?
In this time not possible to unlock mini for free, only via buy codes. Instruction on CD is scam, i can imagine it, on cd is readme.txt that contains "go to this web and buy codes"
If you buy them locked, budget in €25 or a little bit less to unlock them. So you'll have to knock the sellers down a bit
I just unlocked my (Vodafone Spain!) X10 mini pro via a web-based unlocker, worked fine.
Thanks for the information. After I get one for my wife, I will PM you if you don't mind about the syte you have used for buying the code. The cheapes one I have seen was 29€ and normally they go for 37€ on ebay.
I actually came across this site http://www.liberaporimei.eu/liberaporimei/c12839/liberar-sonyericsson.html on xda-developers. €22.35 to unlock a Spanish Vodafone X10 mini pro.
They do what it says on the tin They say they will email you a code up to 4 days after paymentis received, and it was exactly 4 days.
I went through the website, somehow I managed to place an order without giving any details or payment - got an email immediately from their admin about that. By which time I had placed an order with full details & payment, so no problem.
Anyway, in short, code & instructions worked fine.
Thanks for the information. That is the same way I have unlocked my HTC HD2 Spanish Vodafone, now that I think about it, I am buying lots of things from Spain hehe.
But the HD2 unlock was a bit cheaper, even thought it must surely be because I only bought it 6 months ago.
Thanks once again, and as soon as I buy the phone I will let you guys know how it went.
Hi Paul,
I want to unlock my phone as well, but I have a little question: if you unlock your phone, does the app update (SEU) recognize it as a free one and install the free firmware (without the crap movistar) or is it impossible?
Thanks !!!

I don't know the answer to that. I network unlocked the phone, removed a whole lot of Vodafone crap, and ran the app update. the Vodafone stuff didn't come back. Actually, I ran the update without the SIM card in via PC companion, so it was network-neutral.
So if you ran the app update and the crappy stuff of vodafone never came again... THAT'S GREAT !!!
I'm going to unlock it... I'll answer soon
More to the point, I think you can remove the operator-specific stuff independently of the network unlock.
That is, by rooting and CAREFULLY taking out the operator specific apps (there is a thread that describes that here.
Not sure exactly what the link is to the firmware update - and how to update via PC companion without a SIM...
Would be interesting to hear other experiences, though the real test will be when(ever) 2.1 appears. The minor update within 1.6 may not trigger a great deal.
All the same, stripping out the operator specific stuff is not that difficult or time-consuming
Really it isn't for the carrier stuff, it's cuz I like a clean software without intermediates... and for the newest updates too, I think 2.1 will be available for unlocked ones firstly
I used root manager to clean the movistar stuff (about 10 apps and games)
I would be careful about the free solutions out there. Even updating stuff before unlocking your phone.
For Samsung i9000 if you do a firmware upgrade (unofficial or official) and try a free unlock tool on it, it can permanently corrupt the NVM (section responsible for unlock) of the phone.
Original unlock codes will not work and it is not easy to fix.
I have used the liberaporimei.eu, but after 4 days I still have no unlock code. I think I will get one, but was not expecting it to take such a long time.
I think 22€ was a fare price for it. Lets hope it works .

At&t won't unlock my Aria

I understand there are two ways to unlock your HTC aria.
One is to buy the unlock codes on some website.
The second, free way is to call AT&T after three months and they will unlock it for free.
However, I have called AT&T twice and they don't have the unlock code available even after giving them my IMEI number. I'm puzzled by this. Is anyone else having the same problem? They said the computer or database don't have the Aria unlock code in the system. What's going on here?
Big brother just tricked you. They are tracking you now. Throw the phone away. Use cash only. Don't use your real name.

AT&T doesn't have to give you the unlock code for the Aria until the exclusivity for that device has expired. Your only choice for now is to unlock it using a third party website.
Get the unlock code through a website like the most of us did, its just $15 or $20 bucks and they send you an email with the code almost instantly..

be sure to search ebay first. i found an unlock code for my backflip for only 2 dollars, the same for a few other phones I've had!
!
You know...I'd be interested to find out how these unlock codes are generated...seems like people are robbing people of their money when they are selling these things...it probably isn't the easiest thing in the world to figure the algorithm out (if that's how they do it) but i can only imagine that once you do figure it out, it's a short process thereafter to generate unlock codes for people based on whatever information they need...

there is software that does this. unfortunately i think they require a USB Dongle to run the s/w and it is expensive.... until the Russians crack it anyway. LOL
anyone suggest a reliable unlocking site?? there are so many scams out there taking money and not producing a usable code.
Most of the unlock website I found are reliable as far as give me money back when they can't get it. ATT and quite a few inexpensive website can't unlock my Aria. Some on top of refund, give me free unlock code for future. I end up found someone said "doing it manually". Took him 3 day and $25 later, he gave me the code.

rooting just gives you the "ultimate-true-genuine" etc rights to modify the phone the way you want it
to unlock the phone it's a different story. You will only need to unlock it if you're traveling outside the US
Or to switch to T-mobile.

Last sentence not quite correct; a clarification. You don't need to unlock if you travel outside the US. The Aria works just fine in other countries; you will incur additional costs as a result because you are roaming on foreign networks but AT&T has plans you can buy ahead of time and terminate when you get back home. Now the clarification part: if you do have an unlocked phone you can use a SIM card from other providers in other countries (which you will have to purchase or borrow from someone that lives there). Unlocking simply allows you to use another SIM cards, fore example, like Tmobile (a GSM network) in the US. If you don't unlock, your are limited to AT&T SIM cards. Unlocking is really not necessary unless you want to run on different networks in the US and outside the US.
Don't worry i will help you...You can get the Unlock code better from Online site,Basically network provider ask you to wait to get the code from them, they will give the code,it's available in Data base,So if you need Code immediately means you can get the unlock code from here www.Superunlockcodes.com and get the free unlocking instructions from here Mobileunlockguide.com and unlock it step by step.

I travel quite a lot through Europe and since AT&T's roaming charges are quite high, I had to unlock my Aria so that I can use local GSM carriers over there. I used www.cellunlocker.net last year. Their "regular" service for $4.99 was not able to produce the code for my Aria and they gave me a refund. I then purchased their "advanced" service for $19.99 and had the unlock code in 3 hours.
One more note about the benefit of unlocking: Once your phone is unlocked, it stays unlocked. So you need to purchase and use the unlock code only once.

Be warned: UnlockMotorolaIMEI dot com cannot unlock our sims for ATT

Hey guys. I was going to update the developer thread but I do not have enough posts, so I have to start a new thread.
I've been following the Bounty thread to unlock our SIMs for ATT in the US, and saw this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18293197&postcount=73
Based on their answer, I took a chance and spent the $20. The bottom line? No, they cannot unlock it. When I put an ATT sim in the Photon, nothing happens. According to the UnlockMotorolaIMEI guy, my Photon should have prompted me for a code. It didn't.
I advised him of this issue, asking for further help or for a refund. Here's the response:
"We are sorry sir about this... But we don't know how the things are going on all the networks on the globe.
If you buy a book and after that we realize that the book is not helping you to do something... you can not go back and tell to the seller that it is not helping you...
Do you think that is fair for us to lose the money because of your fault. We are reselling the code. We bought the code from the supplier that will not understand this problem... If I refund you than I will pay for your mistake.
Thanks for understanding. And in future if you will need another code for some phones... I will make you a big discount! This is what I can do...
Gino"
Somehow this has become my fault, despite Gino's assurance originally that yes he could unlock our SIMs for ATT.
I'm hoping they step up and offer me a refund. But as of right now that doesn't seem likely. I will definitly update this thread should they come thru.
But either way, the moral of the story is this only confirms what we already knew: that the GSM radio's firmware is written to ignore any ATT tower in the US, and therefore no "unlock" code is going to help.
This been been known. Our phone is already "unlocked" to every country except the US Domestic GSM carriers. And for it to become unlocked a new radio will have to be written, or stolen if possibly from another countries device.

Agreed. But I'm an optimist . So when Gino originally said yes he could unlock it, I figured it was worth the risk. Turns out it wasn't.
Hopefully this helps other newb's avoid losing any of their money.
More from the Unlock guy. He's obviously confused.
"Hi,
We can unlock Motorola Photon and the unlocking code we've sent you unlocked your SIM, meaning that you can use an international SIM card or other carrier SIM (not just Sprint SIM) in your phone.
The problem I think you have with your phone is the firmware for the GSM radio. Unfortunatelly we only offer unlocking codes, we don't handle firmware issues.
If you would have first solved the firmware issue, you would still need an unlocking code in order to be able to use your handset with other carriers.
G."
I've tried to set him straight, but I think something is getting lost in translation.
Good news! It took a bit of back and fourth but they refunded me in full. So no harm no foul.
Now, about that bounty...

I am looking for anyone who can help me.. i have tried everything.. every website i have found on or off this forum to unlock my t-mobile UK locked lumia 800. Everyone has given me a refund back and been unable to help me.. I live in australia and am a student so simply buying a new one is not affordable for me.. i have tried calling t-mobile int he uk numerous times endured lengthy costly calls only to have them tell me they cant help me because i am not a t-mobile customer..
Initially i was in contact with the person that i purchased th phone off and t-mobile sent them an unlock code for me which they passed on.. BUT it doesnt work?? the code is wrong or faulty.. and they have since ceased contact with me rendering me handicapped with a glorified gps camera..
SO i offer say this

2. Is anyone who is a t-mobile customer who would be willing to ring them up on my behalf (i would provide you with all the information about my phone) and get an unlock code for me..?

Did you try to flash stock unbranded firmware? Idk if this overwrites simlock but you can try it.
simlock is not flashing dependant to any firmware. it is hard-written to eeprom or PM or something similar.
anyway if this site http://sim-unlock.net/site/Nokia/Lumia 800/ shows temporarily unavailable then you are temporarily out of luck!!
I was in a position simialr to you.
I can only guess that T-Mobile were sending out erroneous unlock codes, as the first one I received from my seller didn't work. After a few months and some shouting at him, he called T Mobile back and got an 'update' code which worked.
Is the owner's email address accesible to you? Try sending him a reasonable email advising him that he just needs to give T Mobile a quick ring and they can sort it all out. If not, get more details from whatever service you used to buy it from him (ebay, etc) and send him a stronger email.
If he sold you an unlocked lumia and you agreed to take the locked one WITH an unlock code (a fully unlocked phone delivered in two stages) then he does have an obligation to either provide it or give a refund (as he has missold a good).
Edit:
I do have a T Mobile account and would be willing to give it a try getting you an unlock code. PM me.
