ROM + keyboard type + WM5 language - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi all,
I have a HTC Tytn with an Azerty keyboard and a french OS and I would like get updated but I'm wondering if I'm not running into trouble.
I assume that the keyboard type is stored in the ROM and would like to get the device in english (instead of french) and to keep my keyboard recognized as Azerty.
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance for your help

Keyboard layout problems

So as the others that got similar problems, I had layout problems when upgrading to windows mobile 6.
Device: HTC TyTN, English keyboard (exactly like on the official pics), Rogers Wireless (Canada), unlocked thanks to you guys!
ROM: Official WM6 French ROM from HTC
I recently bought an French HTC TyTN with Rogers (in Canada). I unlocked it and upgraded it to WM6 (official french ROM from HTC). Seeing it had an AZERTY keyboard, I switched it back to QWERTY using your precious advices. However I'm experiencing problems with a few keys and I wasn't able to find similar cases on XDA Devs and Google. Here are the misfits:
' (opt+z) = File explorer
& (opt+x) = Internet Explorer
Start menu = Nothing happens
Ok (on the keyboard only) = Pops up the Start menu
Tab = Acts as the Ok button
File explorer (opt+left on the keyboard) = Messaging
However every other button (including opt+ok and opt+tab) work just as it should. I tried many locales (french canadian, english us, english uk, english canadian) to no avail and I really need " ' " and "&" characters, please provide help quickly!
Thanks a lot,
Nico
And for those with my problem: keyboard layout tytn french canadian qwerty azerty wm6 upgrade
UPDATE:
Would getting the official ROM in english solve the problem? It seems like there is no documentation on a QWERTY french TyTN?
e: Inserted a question mark, woops. Still in need of an answer
Kinda need a lil' help there, thx!
Not sure, but you can try an official English or you can try a cooked French rom. Schaps has cooked these and you can get information (or ask your questions) on his threads & posts.
Double post, sorry (see below)

And if I take the official English ROM, would I have to reinstall everything or can I use software to reinstall my stuff on it?
Like I said 'not sure', but I would think so for the english rom.
Yes, you would have to reinstall any additional programs, etc.
Yes, there are back up programs for your device; you can search Wiki for information on them.
Alright I'll try that before messing with my device. Maybe not right now, but I will, thanks!
Alright! Problem solved! I used the official english ROM from HTC. The cause of this problem was problably the fact that only Rogers TyTNs use french ROMs AND a Qwerty keyboard. Snce they got the phone 8 months after the rest of the world, we might not see any french WM6 roms with Qwerty support.
Thanks for your great support!
Posted from my TyTN using Opera, weee!
Congratulations! Glad it worked out for you and your device...

there's a rom called ROMEOS (edition francaise) which is really good. that's what I'm using on my french TP. For the azerty, here's the link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426174 Remember, search is your best friend.
Hi all,
I have a french TOUCH PRO but a WWE Rom ROMEOS 1.40.
Can someone post the Touch PRO AZERTY keyboard mapping?
I don't want putting a French ROM on this device.
Thanks a lot for you help, it's very annoying to type with a bad mapping.
I found it:
open registry and go there:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD]
I modified CurLang to 1036 for AZERTY FR Keyboard
Hope this can help someone
Right, you can allways bring your Hardwear keyboard back to you own language no matter what rom you are using!

I tried 1033 dec / 0409 hex but stll not a good mapping, someone?
I found the country code 1036 in this forum (AZERY FR only)
Remember to soft reset your device after modifiying the registry or it won't work

Dear VitaPSG,
As you can see the ROM's name is «|RAPH|6.5|ROM|WWE| ★ EnergyROM 3.0 'Phoenix' (21812) ★ || Build date 2009/6/12 ||».
Let's break the name apart and split it in components explaining the meaning of each one:
|RAPH|
Device it is intended to work on: Raphael
6.5
Windows Mobile Version
|ROM|
Statement declaring it is actually a ROM and not a tennis ball or a golf club
|WWE|
Language of the ROM: World Wide English
★ EnergyROM
Name of the ROM [the little star is merely decorative...]
3.0
Cook's version of the ROM or ROM series
'Phoenix'
Cook's name of the above referred ROM series
(21812) ★
Core version [the little star is merely decorative...]
|| Build date 2009/6/12 ||
Build date, as the reference itself states: June the 12th of 2009
NOTES
- In order for the «entire ROM» to be in french it should be FRE instead of WWE
- If you want the «entire ROM» to be in french you will have to cook it that way with the proper handlers and language pack
So... Cutting to the chase, no you can't translate the «entire ROM» to french.
Regarding keyboard layout change:
- Look at the suggestions that other users made you in this very thread
- Give it a try [I am not sure if it works because I never had to try it or even think of such issue].
If you get nowhere by doing this I suggest you PM the cook and ask him to point you in the right direction.
Good luck on your quest.
Cheers.
heyho,
for the hardwarekeyboard visit the wiki, it does not bring you the swine flu. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Raphael_Keyboard
for the softwarekeyboard, (on the raph) start-->settings-->personal->input ; input method, options, choose french. softrest. that should help. (for the energy rom at least)
garans
p.s.: learn english, then you do not have to translate it to french english helps in the WWW, even it is not the best, like mine.

VitaPSG,
You would be more likely to get help by starting a new post, rather than piggy-backing someone else's post.

Hello
I'm french, and i use "EnergyROM_RAPHAEL_20090729_Standard"
if you want the keyb in fr do this :
1 - run "Shlomki TouchPro Keyboard in Fuze ROM.cab" found in xda forum
2 - use a registery editor like regedit.Mrln_ARM.CAB
and change :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
00000409 to 0000040c
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD]
1033 to 1036
after in start ---> personal ---> input ---> choose : full querty and clic on "option" and in "language choose "french"
do a soft reset
after this you have a azerty keybord in hardware keybord an in internal keyboard
j'espere que ca marchera sinon envoi un message perso....
all the settings without the Shlomki TouchPro Keyboard in Fuze ROM.cab don't resolve the hardware key mapping. just got a raphael and i've noticed it's with french keyboard so i needed to make this changes coz the hardware key mapping was absolutely wrong.
thanks alot ugo83130

[Q] Change external keyboard language

Hey guys,
Just received my new Atrix including the Lapdock with Danish keys. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it's possible to choose Danish as the keyboard language. I've been searching for a while to find a place to download the language or a way to edit the registry, but I cant seem to find anything.. any ideas (sorry can't find question mark..)
Regards
Andreas
There is an update on Motorola homepage:
direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/support/update
I´m in Sweden and I had similar problem. Now after upgrading i can switch to danish or Swedish
Thanks! Actually the phone told me there was an update ready, which I installed and corrected the problem. That just made the lapdock useful again. I guess it's the same as the one on the website. Thanks a lot anyway
Regards
