Well if you have already purchased the IMEI-check unlocker I wouldnt worry about it. You can swap as many times as you'd like with that.
Each ROM has its quirks here and there. There is no perfect ROM. I recommend just try a few out. I have had mine nearly a week and have tried almost all the WWE ROMS. I just changed from the 1.34 Cingular to the HTC. I can see a speed difference in a good way towards the HTC.
It's your world, choose your ROM.

So in your weeks of testing ROMs, which would YOU prefer/recommend?
I too am in the same problem in that there are lots of threads with wows and boo's , but there is no true comparison thread in what it does, does not do, what it has, has not, what stability it has, has not etc etc
With the K-jam, it was clear what ROMs were recommended but here, most are just going in circles askingQ's rather than reviewing roms.
I use the I-mate one after unlocking the M3100 and removing the orange one. While it is good, I am yet to hear what the other ones are like. I would test as you said but with lackof time etc, it is difficult... whichis where you guys come in
I want a stable working phone, andwhat I dont want is to upgrade to a rom (or keep the Imate) get it all up and running and then tomorrow, a much better rom comes out :->
This is in no way putting anyone down, I do appreciate like most of us do, that most of you guys really go out of your way to test/come back to us about how things went.
What would be nice is a definative answer from testers on how the roms were... and maybe a comparison thread too.
Thanks

Well its actually less than a week of testing. I didnt like the graphics in the iMates (mainly the boot up graphics). I also had the problem of the iMAte ROM freezing after installing MMS Composed which I need here in Japan. The Cingular ROMS have great graphics but cant unlock the ExtROM. The Dopod was the first I tried out and it looked great as I remember but I couldnt get it to connect to the internet here in Japan. The HTC seems to be my favorite now cause I dont see alot of extra certain network only apps that I dont need. It also seems to boot faster for me.
With all that being said, I am in Japan and you are not so my perception will be different than yours about which ROM is "the best." I would just say try one of each of the flavors of ROMS.This probably wont help much but I think you'll be happier if you try multiple ROMS out and pick for yourself.
Good Luck

Trying to choose little big problem.....!

Cingular ROM downgrade error
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a Vodafone PDA1605 (HERM200) I've updated the ROM with new Cingular version available on this site (1.34.502, bootloader 1.06), now I need to downgrade to older version with same CID (1.30.502, bootloader 1.04) but I receive an ERROR "Wrong Vendor ID" every time i retry to flash the ROM (following the procedure... restarting the update without disconnecting the PDA).
I've also tryed to put other ROM with bootloader 1.06 (new Vodafone FRA... i will upload when tested) but I receive the Error: "Wrong Model.."
Could someone help me?

Avoiding overwriting hard-SPL (and a couple of radio questions)

I've spent the last few days reading wikis, guides and threads about upgrading my Tytn, but I still have a few questions:
This guide describes a method for preventing hard-SPL from being overwritten with another bootloader. If I understand it correctly, this is only a problem with original shipped ROMs, and not with the ROMs cooked by the people here. Is this correct? Can I upgrade with any of the custom ROMs here without worrying about overwriting the bootloader?
Are the radio ROMs country or region specific or can I use any radio ROM from all over the planet?
Can I run into any problems if I try to downgrade the radio ROM? If I remember correctly, there was a a lot of trouble with this in the old days when I played around with the ROMs on my Wallaby (and I still had the future ahead of me).
Olipro wrote HardSPL so that it wouldnt allow itself to be overwritten, as far as i know you can overwrite HardSPL by using SSPL (the software bootloader which runs in RAM and not from the devices flash memory area as a normal bootloader does).
Dont worry.... upgrade to HardSPL v2.10 and then you can flash any ROM you like. Some carrier RUUs wont recognise the newer SPL so might not be happy with it. Depends on what ROM you wish to use.
Radio ROMs are pretty much universal however the best ones generally acknowledged are 1.47 or 1.48 (any variant)....as newer ones are unstable and seem to use the battery alot more.
Thanks for a quick and informative reply, mrvanx. And for the brilliant guides!
However, your answer left me with a couple of other questions.

If Hard-SPL cannot be overwritten, is there ever a need for the method I linked to in my previous post? Also - I thought one of the benefits with Hard-SPL was that it can be removed (and the original BL brought back to life) by flashing an official ROM.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that if I really want to overwrite Hard-SPL, I can do so using the SSPL, but upgrading with custom ROMs having SSPL bundled with them won't mess up Hard-SPL?
Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I'm a bit afraid of bricking the Tytn I'm currently borrowing from a friend
Update to HardSPL....safe in the knowledge that you CAN revert it back to stock if you wish, the details arent necessary dude. Go for it....its the best thing to do even if you dont change the ROM since the latest radios take advantage of the faster radio flashing technique in later SPLs.
You DRAMATICALLY reduce the risk of bricking the device by flashing HardSPL first.
Were you planning on using any particular flavour of ROM?
I have a thing for details, but I'll take your word and flash the Hard-SPL

Currently I have WM5, so any WM6 would probably be an improvement. I'm hoping to be able to play around a bit with different ROMs as soon as I feel pretty safe about bricking. Some of the light ROMs look very attractive, especially these ones: K's Rom v1.30a Lite, Schap's WM6 Pro 4.30 ROM and Shamanix`s Grass v2.2.
I would also like to try the full version of both Schap's and kin0kin's. Especially the last one because of the auto installation feature.
But I haven't looked closely at all the different ROMs yet, so there might be others that suits my needs better. My only prerequisite is .NET Compact Framework 3.5. If you have a favourite, let me know

ROM questions

Hi all,
I've got a Touch Pro, this is the info (in red) that's on the boot screen when I start it up:
R 1.02.25.19
G 52.33.25.17U
D 1.90.00.00
Now, I'm new to hacking mobile phones so please help me out a bit.
R is the radio rom version?
G is what?
D is the firmware version?
I implemented all the speed and camera hacks I could find, to the max and the phone is stable and fast.
What I would like is for these changes to be default in the rom so I don't have to do them all over again when I do have to do a hard reset and the 3G reception could be a bit better.
Is there an update available aka has anyone here made a mod that offers what I seek? If not, how can I get it done?
Thx,
Patrick
btw. maybe this is an insanely stupid question but can the Diamond Touch rom be used in the Touch Pro without losing funtionality?
btw2. how do I customize the properties of the Touchflo "Internet" tab. There is a world globe icon, a big one, that starts Opera but I'd like it to open another url by default. Changing the homepage in Opera didn't do the trick. I also would like the icon not to be a world globe but a Google logo image for instance. How do I customize this? And again, how can I get these changes as default, so in case of a hard reset, I still have this config.

You can keep you settings by Cooking you own ROM, if your not upto that use UC or SASHMI to auto customise you ROM after flashing.
Oh, and Don't uise a Diamond ROM, it won't work straight off, it must be ported, unless someone can comfirm otherwise, Radio ROMs should work.
Thanks
Dave
Hi Dave,
thanks sofar. I have some reading up to do I guess

Ok, Im ready for my first flash experience with this Touch Pro I hate Dutch language software and I see there's a newer version available here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs
So I'm going to flash http://rapidshare.com/files/1375236...dio_FOTA_Sign_52.35.25.21_1.02.25.31_Test.exe to test how it works.
To me it seems a bit strange that the one I'm going to try has a newer radio and protocol version but an older rom version than others that ate in that list which in turn have an older radio and protocol version but I'm going to try it.
As I understand it I can't do an attempt to customize a rom as a hardspl version of the Raphael rom is not available yet, correct?
Patrick
btw. my current rom version is: 1.90.404.1 and the update is 1.90.502.2
update..... I got an invalid vender (vendor I guess? ) error. I understand why and I see my phone is still intact.
Quick point....
ROM versions are labeled in a certain way.
first 3 numbers are the ROM version.
next comes the customisation (SKU)
so....
1.90 is the ROM version.
502 is the SKU (ATT/Cingular)
405 is WWE etc.
so you have the latest ROM and the latest Radio. Although i think the .31 radio is only on the AT&T one so maybe it is optimised for AT&T frequencies.
I doubt you will be able to instal this to your Dutch device, as the CID will be different. SO i would wait until HardSPL is released before you try this. However, at worst, all you should get is an error telling you that the update is not for your device at the moment.
Yah, the error I got The phone is still ok, everything is still there.
So, anyway, no updating for now since there's nothing newer than what I've got. I gather I have to wait for the hardspl version if I want to switch to English?

Orange SPV M3100 rom upgrade to WM6/6.1

my cousin has 2 orange spv m3100 and was thinking about upgrading them to windows mobile 6 or 6.1 depending on rom's available
is this easily done?
and would it be best to unlock the phone so it can go on all networks before the rom update or after it?
all advice would be great thank you
Upgrading your device's rom is quite easy after youve done it once, just check the wiki page, upgrading for beginners this should tell you all you need to know about flashing a rom for the first time.
Have fun
cheers scotty
we're guna havea play about with both of them next tuesday/wednesday when we're both free
maybe unlock teh sim so it goes any network aswell
another quick question
do you know if the latest rom on there for the orange spv m3100 is a wm6 build?
no there wasnt a wm6 released for the spv m3100 the actual newest orange rom is a update on wm5 it is in my uploaded file i think if you want to have a look, i used a cooked rom after hard-spl and super cid everything works fine and i have flashed quite a few roms.
Have fun
thanks
do you know of any wm6 roms for the spv?
or if i got the phone unlocked and used a vodafone sim in it would i be able to flash vodafone roms or would i still have to use the orange rom?
James, going to your original question, I've recently done this myself, and over the past week, i've flashed my phone numerous times, so its very easily done.
Just read the guides, and make sure your 100% confident that you've understood it, I did and i'm 100% happy with the outcome!
Thanks Greeee
did you flash a wm6 or a wm5?
cause it comes with a wm5, but wanna updte to a wm6
Tbh, I should've explained something...
My phone is the HTC Hermes 200, not the SPV M3100, although they are the same phone, mines not branded by any network.
It was shipped to me (Bought secondhand) as WM6.1, so all I did last week was updated the HardSPL and since tried a few roms.
I didn't have to use SuperCID, to unlock mine, as it was unlocked, but I do wish you well buddy, and word of recommendation, try not to use branded software on phones, as they bog them down with too much bloatware, stick with what you like.
If need be, I'll help where I can, but tbh, your in safer hands with everyone in here, as all I did was read the guides, and stuck to what was being advised.
The people here are good, which makes it so much easier to use!
cheers Greeee
well im thinking of getting it unlocked before i do anything to it anyway, when using roms without a specified carrier does that mean i can use any rom or is it best to stick with the operator specified?
if you super cid you device you can use any rom that has been cooked or from any carrier as it is basically a unlock for that a bit like a sim unlock. most people use the cooked roms by the chefs in the wm6 part of the forum where there are wm6/6.1 and 6/5 roms that have been cooked and have different features so you will probably have to do a bit of flashing and some looking around before you find a rom that is best suited to you.
If you have ne more questions just ask, Have fun
cheers again scotty
super cid, that easy to do?
just like flashing?
and could i sitll use any carrier rom even if i got someone at a shop to unlock my phone to any carrier?
super cid an sim unlocking is different to flashing i think i dont really remember
wiki on sim an cid unlock here
and a thread here
hope this helps and saves u paying to have it unlocked good luck
yer unlocking and super cid are dif to flashing
are super cid and unlocking the same you know?
cheers for the links, i'll try saving some cash now
no problem and they both come in the same program you just choose which one you want to do both.
Good luck
whats teh splbootloader thing what i been reading about?
it says you need to install that or something :s
do you mean hard-spl?
yer thats what i mean
you will need to flash version 7 2.10 after the sim and cid unlock this prevents your device from bricking if a flash goes wrong
cheers
so sim/cid unlock
then flash hard spl 7 2.10
then flash my rom?

Before I Upgrade ....

I just bought T-Mobile Ameo WM 5.0 over the ebay which was mentioned unlocked. I am using it with vodafone SIM. I am confused by reading about upgrades that it has to be unlopcked before it ca be upgraded. Does this SIM unlock is the 'unlock' required to upgrde or is it something different?
(1) How do I know that it is really unlocked, if it is different to SIM unlocking? As it is working with other than T-Mobile SIM proves it is unlocked? As different to other WM devices I have used, this is more like a PC booting up.
(2) What are the prime benefits of upgrading to WM6.0?
(3) I want to go for official upgrade (i.e. WM 6.0) than coocked ROMs as for now. Or should I jump to the latest (but coocked Wm 6.1 or WM 6.5) ROM? Do I loose any functionality in installing coocked ROM?
(4) And last, does upgrading to offical ROM (downloaded from links on the forum) will again Unlock it to T-Mobile? This may seem trivial, but I have a bit concern that as it is going to be offical upgrade, can it again lock to T-Mobile? If it does, than I will not be in a position to use it as phone unless I unlock again! This seems funny on my part, but better prevent than cure.
Thanks in advance
NO ONE AS YET? I gussed I would have received instant answers to very basic questions becaise I had just bought Ameo!

Its been a while since I did mine but will try and advise on what I can remember
1.SIM unlocking is for using other networks operators and sometimes confused with CID unlocking, I think. If your using a vodaphone sim then it is def sim unlocked but in order to get it to a safe point for upgrading ideally you need to install hardspl and cid unlock I think. There are many guides on here but you will have to search and read I'm afraid as most of us did this a while ago.
2/3.Each of the windows builds 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5 bring different things and increased functionality, 6.0 and 6.1 are worthwhile upgrades as they are both official releases, you may struggle to find a stock 6.1 for the ameo though. Again its been a long time since I used 6.1 on any of my devices, 6.5 is ok as long as you realise that its still in MS beta so you may find stuff that doesnt work or isnt perfect but it is the most up to date. Cooked roms gain or loose functionality dependant on the cook who made it and what they decided to include or remove.
4. I have never installed the stock t-mobile rom so cant tell you if it will re-lock the device but I wouldnt think so.
***Please for your own sake, read as much as you can in these forums to ensure you know what your going to do, also if you do decide to go for cooked roms make sure you use a rom suitable for your SPL****
Hope this helps

That's what I was suspecting, that SIM unlocking wasn't the unlocking required to upgrade it. Thanks for reconfirming this.
Now as there is offical WM 6.0 ROM for Ameo linked here, does that mean they (T-Mobile) have also referred their own upgrading procedure somewhere? For my Xperia X1, SE Updte utility takes care of official upgrade task, so something similar had existed sometime as there exists official T-Mobile 6.0 ROM, there must their official procedure too. I will definitely try to find it, but as yet someone had gone through it, please give some hints.
And as yet until I get a definite answer that upgrading it to offical WM 6.0 T-Mobile ROM will not lock (I mean SIM Lock) to T-Mobile again, I will prefer to defer although I am still looking to get enhanced performance, it has been with me for just a few day and I don't want to mess it up as I have slowly began to love it! Even it is like my desktop speakerphone at home / office and I have began to talk more conveniently and confortable on the desk or home. Yes, I am still not used to use it as normal small cell phone, but I hope I will gt used to it, although I find to see anything on screen during sulit days or in bright daylight.

Hi. welcome to the forum. I was new here six months ago. there is a lot of information here and you MUST take time to read and understand. not many will answer your basic questions. they is not being nasty, it is just the way it is. you must teach yourself. you will not find much (if any) information about official roms.
if you decide to try a cooked rom, Lakeman has produced a great tutorial which is stickied in this forum. It is the one I followed. here is the link

study this carefully, google anything you dont understand, dont do anything until you are sure you know what you are doing.
just to repeat what avengerpenguin said

to be able to flash cooked ROMs to your phone you need to hardSPL your device. HardSPl will OS unlock your device. to be able to use the best WM6.5 rom for your device you need to upgrade to SPL 3.5.
first thing you need to do:
find out what spl your device is currently using: hold down camera button (all the way down) + press the reset hole/button, keep holding down on the camera button but release the reset hole/button (keep holding on camera button until a multi colored screen comes up (then release camera button) look where it says (spl) tell us what is there.

It was 1.10 something and I upgraded to T-Mobile official WM6 ROM today without any issues and overall device is more fast and chunkier. Now it is 2.35 something.
I have however noticed two issues,
(1) HSDPA switch is enabled yet 'H' icon has gone so probably it is not connecting to HSDPA mode, I guess. I want the 'H' back.
(2) Windows Live is gone.
(3) Programs icons are noit alfabatically sorted but somehow lossely scattered.
I googled that Ameo doesn't require CID unlocked and it upgrades directly and it did via T-Mobile application which runs via USB cable.

HSDPA may be down to the age of the rom, if tmobile didnt have their HSDPA running when the rom was built may not be included in the icons etc
Windows live should be available through cab if you search or use a 3rd party app like palringo

Hi and welcome to the forum,
Now I have been using the Ameo for 2 years now, and must have flashed about every rom there is for it. So the other day I thought about going back to a stock WM6.0 T-mobile rom and try it for a few days to see how different it was to a cooked rom. Well it lasted 2 hours and I put it back to Michy's 5.1 rom. Now I'm not saying that Michy's roms are the mutts nutts of roms, that is down to personal choice, but it just proved to me why we use cooked roms. Read the WIKI, and I very much doubt you will have a fault that's not covered in that page. Also read THIS superb thread, it tells you all you need to know BE very careful when choosing a rom that you check the SPL on it, as flashing an SPL 3.5 rom onto an Ameo with another SPL will cause all sorts of problems. Like I say, Read the WIKI FIRST. take your time, and do nothing till you are sure!

Jay
Somehow I found internet access speeds even better although it doesn't display 'H' for HSDPA, because noe HD youtube videos plays smoothly with less buffering, i.e. seems good enough. Battery life has been extended.
USB host is still not good, can't retain it's status, can't load HDD or DVD or CD drives (via powered hub, offcourse)
I was just ponderind, does it drain more battery while connected to keyboard as keyboard definitely will be needing some current to drive and power to run it, that means even when it is plugged in to charger or USB to a PC, what difference does i make w.r.t time it takes to fully charge and retain there where keyboard is connected and when not?
Hi I just upgraded my Ameo using the official TMB 005 6.0 upgrade and it did not relock my sim to tmobile, my vodacom sim is still working fine, however now I want to upgrade it to 6.1 or 6.5 perhaps using a cooked ROM as i cant find an offical Tmobile upgrade to 6.1

I dont think there was an offical t mobile 6.1 release, and any 6.1 stock build will be very old now as I dont think there has been any oem development for this device for a long time.

No there wasn't a 6.1 upgrade for our device, I think they thought it such a small change that it wasn't worth it. and not long after they brought out the 16gb device.

i think i already have spl on my phone if so can i just flash the rom.if i flash a new radio will i get better reception,my phone wont work in the house
Flashing and SPL
If you have an unlocked Fuze, it does not mean that you have installed the hard Spl. Unlocked means that you are able to use your phone on any network, and you have the ability to flash non-raphael radios to your device. If you would like to flash a 6.5 rom to your Fuze, you need to flash the hard spl first, choose a rom, and flash your chosen rom. As far as signal goes, some roms work well with certain radios. Read the forums for the rom that you choose and see what kind of radio the chef recommends. Another thing that I can recommend is to go to the HTC website and take a look at the official update for the Fuze. This is a rom and a radio package that in my experience made my phone work much better than before. The update to the radio boosted my signal, and it unlocked the gps to work with any program since a stock Fuze gps works only with the At&t navigation program. All in all, the best advice I can give you is read up on the xda forums. The contributors on this forum are amazing and have put countless hours into turning our stock (crappy) Raphaels into real i-phone killers.
when its on blue, green, red boot screen it says spl 1.90. olinix
if you've flashed hard-spl, then you are ready to flash a rom.
yes, changing your radio could possibly result in improved reception. radios have different results for everyone and depends largely on where you live.
deadcpu already gave you the thread that has all the information you need. read it.
