Best Car holder for TyTN? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

Anyone found a good car holder for the TyTN? I've looked through ebay and found a few and all of them have no charging/power connector. I don't know which one fits well. I'm looking for a good cheap holder with ot without a power connector. Any recommendations?

Try the Brodit range:
http://www.dsldevelopments.com
There's also a thread over at Modaco.com about their stuff:

Hope this helps.

That looks really good! But I can't afford to spend £40 on a holder. I went for a simple one from ebay for a fiver. I only use it when I go on long trips and use my tytn for satnav which is very seldom.

Things to consider though is if on long journey the phone might need charging so make sure the mini usb has enough room for a car charger to be plugged in. I use the charger for Holux GPSlim 236 satnav receiver to charge both devices when in the car. The only other problem I had with my M2000 was when accelerating hard or going fast round corners the phone would be pulled out of the cradle in fact I tried loads of cradles so I'm hoping this smaller phone doesnt suffer the same problem otherwise it could be elastic band time again.
Looking at that cradle in the top link it looks like one of the bottom lugs will block access to the mini usb which is no good really. Oh well only one way to find out and thats go and buy it.

I bought one from a Vodafone shop. It's just known as a universal car holder. Cost a fiver and works great.
I can still access the mini usb and all buttons while it's fitted in there.
Hope this helps

XDAIIs car kit????

hi everyone
ive just bought myself a XDAIIs pda, ive set up TOMTOM 3 sat nav and have bought a BT TomTom GPS receiver. sat navs working perfectly. but got one BIG problem, i cant find myself a decent car kit. ive tried the Arkon CM531, didnt like it-too many wires and very messy, got carkit with fixed charging through the cig-lighter- did not fit my phone as cradle was for XDAII.
Im really stuck so could anyone please help me. im looking for a car kit which will allow me to slide my xda2s in and out easily, hold it in place and also charge it at the same time whilst its in the cradle.
ANY SUGGESTIONS
Same here ! I could not find anything decent. Any suggestion welcome !

How do you deal with the Arkon RF/speaker interference?
venkie9910,
sorry for repeting my question, but I did not go an aswer yet:
I read here that it was unacceptable...

Thanks,

I got the brodit one from handnav with a pro-clip and it fits perfectly and looks good (once you've removed the tacky brodit sticker). Only problem is that the hard-wired version isn't available for the PDA2K yet and the cost! A bundle including the clip, holder and charger set me back £70, but you pay for what you get.
Hard wired one is now available with or without gps ps2 port, I have just ordered one with gps, cost £59.99 plus p+p, the pro clip for fitting to the dash cost £15.99. hopefully it will arrive next week
Hi all, I have this Bordit 849582 for sale: http://w3.easytrade.net/brodit_shop/product.dip?item=1225583&fid=1225727
Just buy yourself a Rikaline GPS mouse . Attach it in your car and slide your Qtek 2020 into the cradle and start navigating!
Interesting? Mail me or just reply!
I think people hurry into buying a bluetooth GPS which leaves them with only a hardwired option for in-car. (some exceptions with multiple bluetooth capability) I prefer the inverse combination. If you're using your nav software you need to see your phone so its going to be in a cradle anyway. If you just pop down the shops you can leave your phone in your pocket and your bluetooth carkit still works.
I'd go for a cradle with GPS built in, or a connector for extrnal GPS. Preferably powered (battery hungry these PDAs!) then BT carkit.
But be careful with carkit choice. Some have the awful echo problem. Can't add much more than that except that an M2000 and Nokia CK-7W is NOT a good combination :-(
There is a decent carkit coming that supports talk function and wired GPS. It is already available for the 2020 and its coming for the 9090. It`s based on a CMPC Carcomm cradle. If everything goes right it should be released next week. I will buy it definatly and will keep everybody posted.

Cheap and Effective Magnetic Mount
Hi,
how about trying a magnetic mount?
http://www.tangshop.com/magnetic-cell-phone-holder.html
Cheap, effective and neat (inconspicuous), but you have to stick the metallic mounting plate onto the back of your PDA (somewhere in the middle, preferably on the battery). Fortunately, the sticky pads are from 3M so they are strong and the residue can be removed with normal dabbing of scotch tape. The metal plate is thin so it does not affect the fitting to existing casings.
The part that sticks to the dash is using the same adhesive too.
I've tried this with a Bluetooth GPS and the XDA IIs on the dash, and the magnet is strong enough to hold the PDA in place even through fast corners and bumps ...
Cheers,
David
Another option is from this company:
http://www.thb.de
However I couldn't find a picture of the cradle.
I have however seen the cradle in the flesh and is it very very nice... even has DSP processing for the handsfree.
It is very pricey though.
Forgot to also add this link.... has a few pictures

Brodit Polaris Active Car Holder Available :D

Hi,

£45.83 inc VAT
A bit expensive considering their active car holders are usually £33-ish.
Will defo get one when it is available in more places!
If anyone has got one already, please post a review
Thanks.
i have a Brodit passive holder....
just a quick comment on it..
I have had a brodit holder for every PDA i have had for the last X amount of years and have never been unhappy in the least bit...
When i picked up the holder for the TC from the local shop here in Sweden, I looked at it and said "boy that looks tiny".... i thought maybe my head was playing tricks on me...
i took it out of the package at the counter and tried to shove my phone in it.... I would have needed a crow bar, and elephant and some butter to get it in there....
luckily the shop that i bought it from also doubles as a car stereo installation/ car mod shop.....
one of the guys from the shop was there and whisked me into the back and got out his heat gun and heated it up and together we made it fit to a T.
now it is perfect and i love it....
(i wonder, did brodit try to make this only with dimension from HTC, or had they an actual unit during their manufacturing process???)
anyway now i am once again a satisfied Brodit customer....
Proclip
I just got my holder yesterday. While tyhese are a little more than all the others I have seen it looks to be about the best holder I hqave ever had. I had one of the cheap ones off ebay and it broke already. This one seems to be very well made. They offer a few different models for the TC. With or without tilt or charger. I got one with the tilt and I like it. For what these phones cost it is worth it to get a quality holder for the car.
This my carholder-active, orginal for P3300
I got the Brodit as well as I've used them before and they are really well made....that is, except for this one which is as tight as you like. The o2 orbit2 does not fit it properly and I'm now having to debate sending it back vs. finding someone with a heat gun !!!!
In fact, I returned it and have just received another one....problem is that this one is even tighter. Will now have to find someone with a heat gun !!!!
Mine is a tight fit too but far better than the one I had for my last pda. If it isn't tight it buggers up the mini usb connection. The fitting kit for the car works fine too but it would have been better if the curley cable was shorter and the straight bit from the mount was longer just to make it easier to route the cable.
If you're looking for a car holder for the touch cruise, go to best buy in the auto dept., look for one made for the iphone and ipod both. It is around $12 and clips onto your air vent. The cruise fits in it perfectly.

Handy in-car holder information

For those who are looking for a car holder for their TP2 and can't find one yet, I have made a useful discovery.
The Brodit TyTNII Holder actually fits the TP2 better than my TyTNII ever did!
http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/holder/HTC+TyTN II-Brodit-Holder.asp
I tried it last night and it slid into the fixing nice and easily.
The only issue I had was that I have an active holder, so the miniUSB connector wasn't lined up and so wouldn't charge the phone. I'm sure with some careful modification it wouldn't be too difficult to sort that out though!
I'm now in two minds as to whether I even bother getting a proper TP2 kit when it's out!

Depends, you can just screw it into your car, but I use the Brodit Proclip which is different for every car. Mine hooks around the side of the radio and into another groove and is very solid, then the holders screw into the proclip.
Proclips are probably the best way forward, no holes in your car
I have a dashmount kit from www.dashmount.co.uk as the proclip from brodit doesn't seem to fit my car correctly.

I have the passive brodit holder for the TYTN II, but TP2 doesn't fit without scrating it.
seems to fit in my origional htc trinity carrier perfectly, only problem is i cant charge it lol so ill have to get a new one eventually
thank you for the tip!!
I have a Brodit Active holder for my old P3600 (Trinity) and it fits real nice...
After some modifications (I cut off the USB part, and super glued it back on at the correct place to fit my TP2) I now have a Brodit Active holder that I can use again!
No scratches what so ever!!
(saves me about €50 )
^Good Tips...Brodit has always been my favorate car holder for all my devices!
do you know when the TP2 model will be released?
thanks
asked brodit and they say later next week...
Brodit holders now available. Just got to wait for them to filter to your resellers now.
Active: http://www.brodit.com/productinformation.jsp?anr=512021&sortiment=null
Passive: http://www.brodit.com/productinformation.jsp?anr=511021&sortiment=null
As I have already said, looks more or less identical to the Kaiser mount with a central support.
A word of warning to people buying, I had 2 active Brodit mounts that killed 2 different Kaisers because the charger unit was dodgy.
In the end I got another replacement from Brodit but I was too cautious of them by then, so I hacked an official HTC car charger into it.
I am personally gonna get the passive holder and use my HTC charger as I'm not going to take the risk again.
The htc supplied trinity/m700 one fits a dream but needs the bottom cutting out a little as the plug socket is in a different location. Damn good sturdy mount as well.
not sure I'll be getting any until it is confirmed that the pins are aligned and the phone does charge when using GPS.
I had issues with the Brodit one for the Kaiser and when it never worked they blamed HTC

Hi, yes I saw those I am leaning more towards the active one though.
Thanks anyway.
Messa
I ordered a passive mount this morning and a new proclip to see if they ship the right one this time!
I'd try and heed my advice about the active mounts. At least wait until some other poor guinea pig has tried one!
I asked HTC This:
Is there an option for the HTC Touch Pro2 with the HTC 3-in-1 connector bundle?
Or is this compatible:
Set A
- 513021 Active Holder, Tilt Swivel
- 945011 Adapter Cable
Set B
- 512021 Active Holder, Tilt Swivel
- 945011 Adapter Cable
In terms of connecting my HTC touch Pro2 to a charging unit (built in the car) and also using the AUX out of the device via the mini-USB.
I want to know if the 3-in-1 cable/connector is able to be “plugged” in into 513021 of 512021
They answered me this:
It will also come a 3-in-1 holder for this device. The item no will be:
519021 short cable
520021 long cable
I hope those will be ready within 2-3 weeks.
One thing that you need to keep in mind with the 3-in-1 cables in that if you plug it in, the external speaker gets disabled. therefore if you're planning on using the mount for satnav, you'll need to hook it up to an aux-in on your car speakers in order to get any sound!

ideal car holder/fitting method for touch hd?

I love using my hd to watch movies hooked up to aux input in my car,
I got one of these of ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-CAR-CHARG....c0.m14&_trkparms=65:1|66:2|39:1|293:1|294:50
its already snapped!
I want something that allows you switch between horizontal/vertical and tilt funtion for tomtom and core player
I may try velcro stickers or maybe an air vent holder
any other ideas?
I have had 2 of these..they are absolutely rubbish, the insertion clip snapped both times. I have also tried another holder (universal one) and that turned out to rubbish too, I threw it away. Another time the suction disc came away from the arm. I have also tried my own custom made holder - I took a leather phone case and screwed it into the back of the arm attachment, that worked much better than the worthless gadgets of ebay. So save your money and forget buying from ebay, it maybe worth spending a bit more for a better quality item. And just yesterday I found my my xda orbit holder provided by O2 so using that for now which fits the Touch HD very well.
My side I buy that for my car Car Windshield Swivel Mount Dock for HTC Touch HD. At 5.60$ nobody can make better!
Work like a charm!
KaNiMziE
I had a universal jobby off ebay, that was a bit rubbish since where it clamped onto the phone it obscured the volume control buttons.
Ordered one of the HD specific designed ones and will see how that goes.

Brodit holder + charger
I have recently installed a holder and charger for my Touch HD and can highly recommend it!!
http://www.brodit.com/
The installation was somewhat easy, had to open the dashboard to connect it to power behind the stereo.
Pro Clip makes some amazing solutions. I have used them for years on numerous devices.

Goes pretty fast. Haven't done any comparison, but I can't complain. I normally drive 45 minutes to work and twice a day charging is fine for me.

I like the look of the solid mount to the screen, but the holder looks a bit busy.
How have you found it?
Paul.
I got my own here www.mobilefun.co.uk
In this page you can find just about everything you need for your touch hd or any other phone... Bad thing deliveries are done only within the EU countries
The link for the holder i personally purchased and i'm 100% satisfied is here:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/htc-touch-hd-car-holder-p19992.htm
If you are looking for something a lot cheaper that goes with a car charger in the pack you can look here:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/drivesafe-car-pack-for-the-htc-touch-hd-p20932.htm (only difference with the first one is a little more stiff on adjusting method) but its still perfect and safe & both are really easy to adjust horizontally and vertically the phone & they are both built for windshields which means you can video type your driving
I suggest it without second thoughts!

Got the same one. Pricey but oh so worth it. I love it,and would def recommend it. I've tried the suction ones, and they for some reason keep falling off the windscreen, even with cleaning the surface/drying it etc.
The brodit just clips into your dash, and fit your touch hd perfect. They make mounts for every car.
I love it!!!
And it charges at a normal rate, just like a standard wall charger.
I have this one and it's excellent..
Brodit holder question
I have a cheap universal effort I bought from some motorway services - Im looking for a better solution - im using airvent attachment - its a three pronged affair which clips over one of the vent "stays". Its wobbly as hell - which is fine most of the time, except when you are attaching the charging cable. Does the Brodit attach to the airvents ? if so does it attach solidly ? in a better way than my three pronged clip ??
Depending on your car and which mount you want.
For my Xantia, using the vent beside the steering wheel the mounting plate fits in around the vent, between the vent unit and the dashboard body, rather than the cheapo ones that clip feebly to the vent.
At the moment I'm using two of the suction cup ones that people have had problems with.
Superglue is your friend (no, do not superglue it to the windscreen no matter how temping that sounds!).
The internal flange which holds the silicon cup to the base of the arm breaks up causing it to regularly fall off teh windscreen, some good superglue carefully dripped in fixes this. The other problem I've had is the ends breaking where the metal snake fits in, again superglue (pull back the concertina cover) in each end sorts this.
Ok these are things that should not go wong in a good product, but when they're available for a couple of quid shipped from China, it's to be expected, and thankfully easily rectified.
Has anyone got the details of a UK supplier of Brodit?

Best Car Adapter?

Which Car Adapter do you recommend guys for the Hero?

Any other suggestions peeps?
I use a Brodit active mount. Looks good but is not cheap (about £30 ish in UK). But then I just slide the phone in and charging starts as soon as i switch on the ignition. I have used Brodits for my last 3 phones and all have worked well.
Cool you got a link for it, found it about £34.99 anywhere recommended?
Thanks dude
Got mine from prepaymania - it was £27.04 including delivery. Now it is £28.22.
They were fine, but got let down by the lying toads in the Royal Mail who insisted they had tried to deliver but I was out. The note saying that got delivered the next day by the postman! So had to collect it from my Royal Mail depot. But NOT Prepaymania's fault.
BTW I have mine hard wired in via a ciggy lighter behind the dash. Don't try wiring it in direct or you will fry your Hero because the ciggy lighter adaptor houses a voltage reducer. No wires show and I mount it using a car specific Brodit car mount as well.
Cheers dude. I don't want tyo drill in to the dahs, do they have a sticky thing that has to go on the dash as well? Or is there another way of doing it.
appreciate the link
Look at Brodit's site here. Click on "choose the mount for your vehicle" and put in the details. They do fittings for almost every car going and none of them involve any drilling.
You then need to find somebody who stocks them. Normally easy (prepaymania may) for more common cars. May have to wait a bit longer for unusual ones
Make sure you order one for RHD cars if in the UK!
I order the one on ebay but It broken after couple of twists. After a good glue it works perfectly!
I do not know if it affects th G2 battery life a lot but i use one of my blackberry phone chargers i think it's the one for the bold 9000
so far i didn't notice much change in battery life plus it chargers more than 70~90% of battery life in about 30-50 minutes.
just to add to my previous post. I have a silicon case on my Hero and that won't fit on standard car holder. My trick is to light it up so it warm up and expand it a bit and it fit perfectly!!
Ive bought one off ebay now, a herbert reicher one! I think thats what it is called!
Will see how i get on with it!

Avoid londonmagicstore on eBay.
I bought one of these holders and they sent me one that was meant to be a for a Nokia N97 and then insisted it would fit the Hero too despite the size difference. My N96 I had at the time fit so an N97 or Hero would just fall straight out lol. Sent back and got a refund luckily.
If anyone could recommend a car holder that would be suitable for running the Hero in landscape mode I would be grateful, the Brodit and Herbert Richter ones don't look to be secure enough.
I'm looking at one on Mobilefun that seems to be the correct version of the one from Funkyfin's eBay link.
A few days ago I bought an HTC car kit. Unfortunately as a new user here, I'm not yet allowed to post external links but the name of the kit is "CU-S210". Just google it and you should get a lot of results.
It says HTC on the box but if you look closely, it seems HTC buys from Herbert Richter (the flexible mount is labeled "HR" and on the cradle, there's a "made in germany" and I assume, it is HR as well since it looks exactly like the HR ones).
My opinion: I haven't gotten round to testing it on long trips but so far it works quite well. The phone is easy to get in and out but it still feels safely in place, even in landscape mode.
Well, if you drive a landrover through the rocky wilderness on a daily basis, I assume it wouldn't hold forever (however, then you probably wouldn't use a phone for navigation anyway ^^ ) but for regular street use I see no problems with landscape mode.
My brodit holder for the Hero works fine in landscape mode - in fact that is how I use it most of the time with my sat nav app. It has a ball mount so swivels easily and holds the Hero very securely
