Couple of questions on CID rom and so on. - G4

Hi, i done a fair amount of searching but to be honest there just to many posts about this to get a answer to be sure of.
If someone could spare a moment to help out i be grateful of there time.
1) How do it tell if my phone is CID locked ?.
I sure mine is a G4 model now, but i updated rom and so on, and all works ok there, but i am unsure if i used a locked rom update. So i am unsure, of course i dont wish to brick my phone like some have.
2) I live in England, UK, and like to know what are the newest roms and radio rom for my area.
Currently i have the following....
IPL 2.16.0001
SPL 2.16.0001
GSM 02.07.10
OS 2.16.9.1
Rom Version 2.16.9.1 WWE
Rom Date 2/6/06
Radio Version 02.07.10
Protocol 413.1.03
I read that radio roms do the phone side of things, and would like to update that as i get a few drops on calls, i use O2. What is the best one i can use, also can i use a radio rom from another area not just European ?
I like to test out WM6 but like others lead me to an error on CID locking (300 error code) hence i like to confirm i have a CID locked phone, but i was told when purchased it was fully unlocked.
Any help would be very greatful.

Here is what you have to do:
- download any G4 rom from xda ftp
- unpack it
- replace the update tool from the WM6 one with the one from the G4 rom (when you will run it, it will be in italian)
- don`t worry about bricking your phone, it can only happen if you try to update your IPL/SPL and the WM6 ROM doesn`t include those upgrades.
(if your Wizard is CID-locked, after the upgrade, your OS will be the same one you had before the upgrade, if not, be happy) )

I can give a little help if you feel you can trust me.
Use a little program called pdocread.exe (by itsme) and read the bdk1 using the following command:
pdocread.exe -n 1 0 0x10000 [saved_filename] and then contact me via PM to send me the encrypted file so that i can read it and check the CID value. I must warn you that the resulting file will have your phone's IMEI in it.
For this program to work your phone must have RAPI and Unsigned Apps enabled
You could also use mtty.exe program to check the CID status by using the info 2 command
Code:
Cmd>info 2
GetDeviceInfo=0x00000002
+ SD Controller init
- SD Controller init
+StorageInit
***** user area size = 0x3D080000 Bytes
[B] [COLOR=Blue]HTCSSuperCID ' HTCE[/COLOR][/B] <------- CID status!!!
To be honest i'd prefer the first solution since i'm writing a Wizard service tool and as my phone is a full unlocked Qtek i need locked CID blocks to compare and understand a bit more about that zone.
cheers

Sent email with pdocread info. Here are my mtty results.
PHP:
Cmd>info 2

I assume the "HTCSWIZCNG01" is just verifying what I already knew? That I am CID locked to cingular?

I managed to get a list with a lot of CID codes for different operators and will check your value (once i find the file ) but i also believe that your phone is indeed CID locked; sorry

Many thanks for the details, tried it last night but would not change, so i at least know i have a cid locked system now.
Maybe wiorth getting it unlocked, but to be honest it was more of a wanting to know if it was or was not, know i know that i happy with what i got. Maybe an offical update will work when its released.
Again cheers all for your help and advice.
Any further info still be greatful with details of first post about radio roms still if you can.

Pls make new dump as it should be 64Kb (0x10000)

Hi, please someone can tell me , as i think, my 9100 is CID unlocked?:
Cmd>info 2

After do a CID unlock with awizard, rechecked and still showing the same.
but when i try to dump rom doing "r2sd all" in mtty1.42 it doesn´t allows me. In awizard done.
Cmd>r2sd all
***** user area size = 0x1E880000 Bytes
R2SDBackup() - Download type = 5
usTotalBlock = 1 sizeof(SDCARD_SIGNATRUE_TABLE)=512
You didn't get the proper security level to download a specific image
Cmd>
If it´s unloked, i supose, after reading forums, that i can change rom from WWE to last Spanish (2.18....)
IPL/SPL: 2.17.0001
GSM 02.07.10
OS 2.17.7.2
wait your answers. Thanks.

A quick search around the forum would have shown you that it's not possible to CID unlock a G4 device for free.
Yours is a G4 and if you compare with my values from post #4 you can see that yours isn't CID unlocked
cheers

Thanks.
i suposed that as wasn´t in CID list was unlocked. But i get it more clear.
So the only ways to change rom and language are, or pay or try it with the Solutuion found: how to flash any rom to CIDLOCKED DEVICE.

Japanese ROM 1.23.731.2 from Docomo hTc Z (2006-10-23)

Japanese ROM from DoCoMo hTc Z has been uploaded to XDA-Developers FTP and added to the Hermes wiki, you can find it under the Available Original Shipped ROM Versions.
Notes on this ROM:
ROM Version: 1.23.731.2 06/24/06
Radio Version: 1.06.00.10
Bootloader: 1.04
Language: JPN (Japanese)
CID: DOCOM801
As you can see this is nothing new, but I guess it will be useful for people with this CID to be able to downgrade to bootloader 1.04.
Enjoy
Hi pof,
Thanks for that. I tried this to flash my X01HT after unlocking it with imei-check but with no luck. RUU went successufully till the last screen and I hit the upgrade but it returned an error saying something like this RUU cannot be used for the device. Bootloader is now 1.04 and the device should be SuperCID with imei-check. The only thing I can think of is that I upgraded the radio to your 1.2. Would that screw SuperCID? I appreciate your advice in advance.
Thanks,
harryk
harryk1372: If you are in 1.04 bootloader just run the upgrade utility again without disconnecting the device or start the upgrade in bootloader mode to bypass CID checking.
If it is really SuperCID then you shouldn't have seen this error.
Hi pof,
Thanks very much for getting back to me so quickly.
I ran the upgrade in the bootloader mode. I thought that I don't have to run it twice if the device is already at the SuperCID state and didn't run the update twice. I'll try it again when the device is fully charged as the battery is now down to like 30%.
I'll post the result again when I am done. Thanks again for your prompt advice. You're the man and I really appreciate your efforts taking us thus far in cracking Hermes.
Regards,
harryk
Hi pof,
The device looks like it was not in the SuperCID state and RUU went fine with the second run with no error. However, the upgrade failed when it hit exactly 47% no matter how many times I tried it. Lucky that I did not brick my device but of course it seemed to lack some of the components and it did not even have the Connections setting to set up the Internet access. Also, AutoRun and cabs in the ExtRom didn't take any effect either although the cab files were there.
I decided to flash the TyTN ROM instead and that was successful. That is fine as I only use Japanese occasionally and I didn't really want the Japanese MUI so I will keep it as is. Perhaps I will tweak it a little to be able to use Japanese with loading the Chinese nls, Japanese font, Japanese IME and so forth just like I did with my Universal.
Thanks again.

Does anyone succeed in flushing Docomo ROM to X01HT?
After unlocking my X01HT,

Especially when I write SMS message, it will disturb me over and over.

X01HT Unlocking Problem
I've got this X01HT a few days ago from S/B shop but when I tried unlocking it the result was no good using my cable. I read from other site that X01HT released from December 2006 cannot be unlocked. Please give me some clarifications on this and also, is FLASHING on lower rom version even in english version can resolve the problem...? Your response will so much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
At the moment it's not possible to unlock X01HT devices wich where bought after 12/1/2006 and have bootloader version 1.09 and RadioROM version 1.14.0.10! Please be patient.
To the experts, I need some advice. I intend to get a X01HT, already unlocked and flashed with the dopod 838 pro firmware. However, I intend to flash back the Japanese shipped rom :
RUU_HER_DoCoMo_1.23.731.2_1.06.00.10_JPN_SHIP.zip
What are the requirements esp where :
Bootloader (SPL)
Latest Radio Bootloader (HTC_BOOT)
Or since its unlocked, do I just go to the bootloader mode and flash direct? Any side effects if I do so, since its changing from an english rom of another clone (Dopod 838 pro, WM6)?
I am not even sure if the RUU_HER_DoCoMo_1.23.731.2_1.06.00.10_JPN_SHIP.zip rom is WM5/6. Please advice, thanks..

HTC HERMES (M3100) - fatal crash, PLEASE HELP!

Hi,
I recently had a power cut (yes, a lights off power cut!) that killed my PC half wat through installing the Cingular English CWS__001 1.34.502.1 09/21/06 ?? 1.16.00.00 32.53.7018.01H 14955.2.3.0 ROM onto my SPV 3100.
Now SPV 3100 will boot to the ROM I was running prior to the upgrade but I can't use the telephone. I'm also not able to rerun the upgrade as it got far enough through the process to upgrade my bootloader to 1.06 - therefor rendering me unable to load another ROM.
Before the crash I was using the Imate ROM as below and M3100 was sim unlocked and running on o2 3G
i-mate English CDL__001 1.20.305.3 07/21/06 1.20.305.104 1.07.03.10 32.41.7010.02H 14955.2.3.0 1.04
Please help.
Thanks
If your device is still working ok as a PDA then hopefully it just screwed up the radio update of your device.
Try reflashing the Radio only

EDIT: Sorry only works on 1.04 bootloader only. Afraid your gonna have to wait for Pof to come up with a 1.06-1.04 workaround
Hi S.K,
Thanks for the info. I have now tried installing the HERM_1.20.31.10_type2_radio_fixed upgrade but unfortunately the radio upgarde crashes also. It all seams to go well, (after using MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe twice) the phone says "Upgrade Radio Stack Please wait" and the progress bar appears on the PC but then after 10 mins I get an ERROR 114: RADIO ROM UPDATE ERROR.
Do you think this might be becuase the last upgarde partly installed bootloader 1.06?
Any other suggestions - I'm desperate to get the hpone on M3100 working again.
Thanks

Please post USB monitor capture, otherwise can't help u.
Hi Pof,
Thanks for the offer, I will sort out the usb software on Monday. Are there specific actions that I should try, obvioosly I will usb monior everthing I do but I want to keep it to the point and not waist yr time trailing through huge log files.
Cheers
BTW - I have tried all options of recovery, such as attempting to install the latest radio and trying to install the new rom from an sd card, trying several roms and using imei unlocker - all without any joy.
I think the problem is that I have partially installed radio and bootloader 1.06 so I can't fix the problem.
Thanks again.
@wotthefok:
For me is faster to look at the usb log file, then I exactly know why the upgrade fails, otherwise I have to decode it from your feedback and I can't be really sure. Check the "upgrading problems" page on the wiki, if none of the steps there seems to fix your problem, post USB monitor log please.
Log Files as requested
Hi,
I have captured information using usb monitor and attached the zipped log files for your attention.
The first is called USB_monitor_log_Herm_120Radio_twice. This log details attempting to install the HERM_1.20.31.10_type2_radio_fixed upgrade, and running it twice - just in case.
The USB_monitor_log_runing_Cingular_1.34.502_11_uprgrade_twice.zip details attempting to install the RUU_HER_Cingular_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship upgrade, simply using the standard ROMUpgradeUt.exe method. This generates the expected Vendor ID error.
My primary focus is to install the radio upgare or download my bootloader to 1.04. The PDA part of my m3100 does now freeze occasionally but at least functions whereas the phone is completely dead.
Thanks in advance.
Please attach capture in *ANSI TEXT FORMAT*, the .lgs file you zipped is totally unuseful
Edit -> Export and Save as type "ANSI Text files".
Also make sure you export in "COMPLETE" view, see the wiki for more details.
OK, Spot the novice.... I have now created a txt log file that captures activity of me running the 120 Radio upgarde - but only once this time. I still had to zip the file due to it's size. Hope this is OK.
I'll send the other logs within the next couple of hours. Please let me know if the output I have sent so far is acceptable?
Thanks

No, it's a "basic" capture, you have to export a "complete" capture:
Start USBMonitor.
File -> New session -> USB Monitor -> Select USB device where your phone is connected -> Check "request view" -> Finish
In the upper part there are two tabs: basic and complete. Click on "Complete".
Right, Try again (duh!) OK, I've tried to keep the log files names as self-explanitory as possible... USB_monitor_log_Herm_120Radio_run1.zip is the r20 radio upgrade, 1st run and USB_monitor_log_Herm_120Radio_run2.zip the second run - without disconneting or resetting the device.
USB_monitor_log_runing_Cingular_1.34.502_11_uprgrade_ran_twice.zip is the Cingular upgrade run via the ROMUpgradeUt.exe, again run twice without disconneting the device.
Hope I got it right this time.....Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Thanks.
This time you got the captures right
- You're on bootloader 1.06: You don't have 'rtask' command, you won't be able to do any radio upgrade only.
- Your device is not CID unlocked (Security level=FF, unprivileged)
- The bad flash caused the CID area to corrupt (CID: Wait interpreter timeout)
- When flashing a full ROM you get a CID not allow (255) this is because your corrupted CID doesn't match the CID on the ROM.
The radio part is screwed, you could have fixed this if you where in bootloader 1.04 by flashing a full ROM, but as you are in 1.06 you can't because of CID checking. But you're lucky because the OS ROM is intact and you can boot the OS, you should be able to downgrade to bootloader 1.04 from OS and flash a full ROM after, which will hopefully fix your radio.
Just wait until a solution to downgrade bootloader is available (I'm working on it).
Hi,
As I suspected.... Suppose it's not all bad news though - just means that I have to be patient and use my communicator once more. Do you know if the guys at IMEI-CHECK have a downgrade solution? Even if it's a pay for option??
I have already got a IMEI-CHECK sim unlock from where I originally got the M3100 unlocked from Orange to work on o2. That said, I have run either unlocker 2 or 3 with the .unl that I know worked I now get
HTC HERMES v3c unlock
Starting communication.........
Checking device..............ERROR
The device you try to unlock is not supported.
Please contact your supplier site.
Device is rebooting
Press any key to quit this application.
I'm currently chatting to the guys at IMEI-CHECK re this problem.
Anything else I can do to assist you in anyway??
Cheers

They have it (M3100v3cUnlock.exe), but it will not work on your device because your IMEI is corrupted and their unlocker will not be able to read it and to check/compare with the .unl key file.
Hi,
Just a quick update. The guys at MIGsofT LTD have VERY VERY generously said they'll have a look at the problem for me so my phone will be winging it's way to them today.
Thanks for your assistance and helping me be certain of the problem and to better understand the root cause.
Hope this information will prove useful to others.
Another quick update...
The guys at IMEI-CHECK (MIGsofT LTD) have rectified problems with my handset and managing to reinstall bootloader 1.04 in the process!!
They also turned my phone around in under three days and only charged me the cost of postage! I had previously been a customer of theirs but it was still a very generous and helpful offer and I would certainly pay for the service than have a duff handset - after all £250 + for a paperweight is rather excessive....
If you're experiencing a problem like mine why not get in touch with them and offer them money to have a look at your handset? No Guarantees but it seemed like my last chance, for a while anyway.
Praise to IMEI-CHECK for a brilliant service - they are King of the day !!

CID unlock from bootloader ?

Hi,
First many thanks to all people here at the forum who makes the day better and more interesting for mobile nerds like me. I have been lurking around here for a long time and enjoyed every minute of it.
My problem :
Since my x7500 is SIM unlocked and with a standard setup as far as I can see I tried the HTC VM6 Rom flash without CID unlock.
That was stupid. Very stupid, since I don't have the providers orginal ROM available.
My x7500 will not accept the HTC VM6 ROM and is stuck in Bootloader with "USB" at the bottom of the screen when connected to my PC. Hard reset does not start the normal "installation"
When I start the VM6 flash program I get the famous "provider error message"
Is there any possibility to unlock the CID in Bootloader or "flashing" the bootloader to use the original ROM image at my device for a re-install ? In that way I could use the X7500 unlocker in VM5 and then flash to VM6 after.
If not re-installing the original ROM or unlocking the CID is possible I guess my x7500 is seriously bricked.
I am sorry if the answer to my problem can be found in other treads here. I have searched and read a lot without any success. I know now that I should have unlocked the device before trying to flash -> can only blame my one stupidity.
I will be very happy for every advice.
Greetings, Eric

There were four ROMs posted here some time ago. At least one of them didn't require the unit to be SPL / CID unlocked. Try to get hold of one of those - look in the Athena WM6 forum (where this should have been posted)

I suppose you mean this four Rom's :
http://uploaded.de/?id=j2pv51 - ROM ver 2.20
for use with the athena_upgrade program
http://uploaded.de/?id=0v9mm1 - flasher for SuperCID devices only
works only for supercid devices
http://uploaded.de/?id=430xr4 - HTC__001 - version with spl,ipl and etc
works with CID HTC__001 and SuperCid
http://uploaded.de/?id=wbbw2u - T-MOB005 - version with spl,ipl and etc
works with CID T-MOB005 and SuperCid
As I understand my x7500 is not unlocked/superCid'ed and I need a ROM with exactly the same CID as on my device. Or am I far out ?
Or should I be able to use one of them even if the CID don't match ?
Thanks, Erik

Hi Mackaby, thanks for the answer.
That was the first ROM I tried to flash. Gave me error message "wrong vendor, check your update software"
Now I only get bootloader when I start my device. I have(had) a Norwegian ROM so I guess the CID does not match. I wish I unlocked my device before trying the WM6 ROM but......
Now I am stuck : Cannot boot / install my original ROM or install any.
My hope is that I can either unlock my CID in Bootloader or installing the original ROM again with a hard reset. To bad a hard reset only sends me to bootloader.
try this commands in mtty:
set 14 0
task 8
If it doesn't boot OS after this, you need a rom matching your CID. It's not possible to CID unlock it from bootloader.

If it doesn't boot OS after this, you need a rom matching your CID. It's not possible to CID unlock it from bootloader.

Did it. Same result : Bootloader shows up after "task 8"
bootloader says :
athe100
ipl-v1.00
Athe100
SPL-v1.07.0000
red (raster)
green (raster)
blue (raster)
"Serial" when not USB connected, "USB" when connected in white field.
Guess I have to send my device for service since there are no ROM available for my local X7500 That's life

Hi Hdubli,
Thanks for the answer.
Bonus pack ? do you mean the CD that followed my x7500 ? I can check but don't think there are any ROM Flash application on that.
Sorry if I didn't understand your message correct
Greetings, Eric
If u buy bonus pack with athena which includes car kit etc etc, u also get CDs, in which the ROM is also there..so I was asking if u can get hold of the dealer from whom u hv got and enquire about it..also in mtty issue info 2 command check what is yr CID

Ok, understand. We don't have anything called Bonuspack here with hardware stuff and ROM software.
This was the output from the mtty command :
Cmd>info 2
HTCSHTC__H10 ÅPýHTCE
Cmd>info 3
HTCSATHE100001.07.0000 ßؽôHTCE
Anything special with this ?
Anyone who knows if it is possible to mod a ROM flash file so that this CID will be accepted during install ?

That would corrupt the signatures, and it won't flash with an unmodified bootloader.
bootloader screen freeze after turning htc x7500 off
EricBr said:
Hi,
First many thanks to all people here at the forum who makes the day better and more interesting for mobile nerds like me.

Thanks EricBr or anyone who can help me,
I have a similar problem, but in my case I didn't do anything to deserve it... I just turned off my new and provider unlocked x7500 after playing with it all day (just installed skype for mobile and customized some settings, tried the programs, etc.), and when I tried to turn it on again, it just froze in the bootloader screen... Nothing works, I tried soft and hard resets, don't know what else to do?
I've been reading al your posts everywhere and tried a few things without succes, when I conect my x7500 to my pc, it doesn't connect to activesync or anything. I guess I would do better if there would be someone who can create a reply that would clearly guide me on what to do and what files (with links) to download. I simply don't know what happened! since I didn't do anything especial to deserve this from my x7500 which I was falling in love with, after only a few hours of just getting to know it.
I'm new to xda's so please lay it down easy on me... Already had removed the sim and the miniSD I had installed on it... still nothing happens.

Model No. says H instead of HERM200

He Guys,
Just my luck I have bought an HTC Tytn with the original Dutch rom and sim unlocked second hand.
I wanted to put a new Dutch rom from HTC on it but I keep on getting the ERROR [244] : INVALID MODEL ID but what I don`t understand is I have used the original Dutch rom from HTC. So I checked the device information and under the tab identity it says;
Model No.: H
Platform: PocketPC
IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Shouldn’t the Model No. be HERM200?
Has anyone any suggestions in how I can solve this problem so I can flash any rom I wish.
I have tried al the cid unlock programs I could find and in bootloader it says;
H
IPL-1.01
H
SPL-1.40.Olipro
Thanks in advanced.
Use RAR to unpack the Original Dutch ROM.
Take the NBH file that you get when you unpack the ROM.
Put it in a folder with CUSTOM_RUU from Olipro.
Run CUSTOM_RUU and it will load up the ROM from the NBH file, bypassing the CID check. Should work
Thanks for the reply,
I have tried what you suggested but I still get ERROR [244] : INVALID MODEL ID I have also read these posts http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322231&highlight=CUSTOM_RUU+from+Olipro and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322119&highlight=CUSTOM_RUU+from+Olipro and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309707&highlight=CUSTOM_RUU+from+Olipro and tried these suggestions but every time I get the error message. The radio update process was the same for me it will go to 7% and then give the message ERROR [244] : INVALID MODEL ID.
I have also tried the HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a and Hard-SPL-V7 but still get the error message.
I hope I’m doing something wrong if not then I hope you have a new suggestion.
Thanks in advance.
Please set your device in BOOTLOADER MODE and post here your IPL / SPL versions.

Ups, missed the bottom - thought it is the signature already! Sorry, haven't had my coffee yet!
Well, looks like the device is CID unlocked!
How about trying to flash an entire cooked ROM?
i would suggest the following:
flash a cooked rom (any)
see if that makes any difference to your model id
then try and flash the native dutch rom
good luck
Hi Guys,
As you suggested I tried a cooked rom the Hermes_WM6_vanilla still get the same error message when I put my device manually in boot loader it shows;
H
IPL-1.01
H
SPL-1.40.Olipro
But as soon as I try an official or cooked rom it shows;
H
IPL-SSPL by des
H
SPL-1.09.ds
I’m now trying Schaps_WM6Pro_WWE_4.00_Full_Beta3.exe and choose for auto detect and it said 1.40 Olipro and in boot loader it shows;
H
IPL-1.01
H
SPL-1.40.Olipro
And after 1% I got the ERROR [244] : INVALID MODEL ID message again.
I think my options are getting slim.
Your ModelID is stored on NAND and can be edited quite trivially (mostly).
how it got corrupted I don't know, however, the important question is; can you get into the OS?
He Olipro,
The device it zelf works perfect I can go anywhere I want even in the OS.
Just lead the way.
Changing Model ID
I have a similar problem in that my Model ID got corrupted during a radio upgrade. I now get the same error (244) and am stuck on SPL2.10 and can't downgrade to fix it. Can anyone tell us how to manually change the model ID in the NAND?
Much appreciated.
Dumping NAND
Ok, I'm a relative newbie so appologies before I get flamed. Thanks Olipro for giving me a clue.
I have now got spl 2.60 on my device but am unsure how to dump the NAND. I've worked out how to dump the 3 partitions from the device to dump the OS but am still unclear which part of the device is the NAND. I've read the Wiki on the memory map but am still not too sure.
Anyone able to give me simple instructions to dump the NAND and once I've done that where abouts is the ModelID stored? Do I do this using mtty?
Thanks in advance.

NAND Dump
Thanks Drummer for pointing me in the right direction.
Ive done this bit:
BTW, if you want to do a full backup of you FULL eeprom nand at any time, connect as before and type these commands:
plink HERMES > full.nb (hit ENTER twice)
task 32 (hit ENTER once and only once from now on after every command)
password 0000000000000000 - My device password is BsaD5SeoA which I used instead.
set 1e 1
rbmc me.txt 50000000 7fff800
watch your file grow to 128 MB.
It creates a full.nb file but it stays at 1k!!
** Note I have copied the bootloader file for spl 2.60 on my Hermes and ran that so I can now use that versino instead of the 2.10 thats on my device if that makes a difference and have tried with no joy with either version. Yes I know it says to use 2.30 but I can't work out how to get that on my device due to the ModelID error.
The Model number is contained within the herm1.nb file that was posted by BusStop in that thread. No need for complete NAND reflashing, only that section. You'll see it using a Hex Editor. You should write down your WiFi MAC addess, so you can edit it before flashing the file with the corrected Model number. Now you just have to figure out how to get SPL 1.01 MFG on your device...
Thanks Drummer. I did try flashing the herm1.nb file but of course as I do not have SPL 1.01 MFG it gievs an error. I'll keep trawling through the site and see if I can work out how to get SPL 1.01 onto my device. I'm not going to let this damn device beat me.
Ok so I worked out how to get the ModelID using getdevicedata. Used nbhtool to create a vaild nbh using the ModelID I'd just got and used the spl from 2.30 and it updated that fine.
Excellent.
However did the same with the MFG1.01 and flashed it and......
I now have a dead brick, no power and no response form usb. Time to get a replacement device.
Thanks for all the help I've had. I'm sure it should have worked.
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect Hermes to charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while Hermes is connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber
5.) Soft Reset
Thanks for the advice Drummer however:
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect Hermes to charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while Hermes is connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber - Nope red light goes out!
Mne shows HHHHHHH
Hi all, i've upgraded my radio and after my model id changed to H.
So, reading some posts i've used NBHTOOL.
1.I've decompiled an original Italian ROM
2.i've obtained a custom nbh selecting only OS and EXTROM and changing my Model number.
3. after that i've flashed the nbh resulting into a write error at 84% and a bricked htc.
Luckily i was able to reflash roms and i processed to second experiment.
I've made a custom rom with only the os, and it WORKED!
so my questions are:
1. can i use my htc even if my external rom isn't flashed (it cames from an old Schaps 4.0 succesful flash)
2. It is safe to proceed installing bootloader SPL using the nbhtool like i did with the os?
In that case i will be able to fix the model id problem by flashinh spl 1.01 and using the wireless fixing method you posted..
Thanks in advance for your reply!
Hi
From my understanding the Ext rom is mainly used for carriers to install there specific addons and customizations so it shouldn't be a problem.
As you can see I did flash spl 2.30 using this method and it worked fine ti was only when something whent wrong flashing 1.01 that my problem happened but I think that may be that I used an nbs file instead of an nb file from what I've read since.
Good luck.
Edit: Just noticed someone on this thread has managed it by going straight ot 2.60 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322225

Help with a MDA Vario II

Hi everyone,my name's Larry and I just registered to the forums. Please forgive my newness but I am in a bit of a pickle here.
I have a MDA Vario II, aka Hermes 300, that I bought s/h off ebay. Works fine,no worries, but I upgraded to WM6 because i felt browsing was a little slow and the screen graphics werent as good as I expected. The upgrade was from the T-mobile site itself and all went fine. Only thing is I dont believe this phone can handle it(needs more RAM really) and after being online a while it gets really slow, like steerig a cow through treacle at times so I came to the conclusiong it was a bad move! Now I've noticed a link on here about downgrading to WM5 but is it that easy for one with no specialised tools or knowledge(tho i did build my own PC, or should I say ahem WE did)
Also a problem the phone has developed since the upgrade is it keep deleting my email settings, even tho on the 'desktop' screen it tells me i have so many unread emails in each account! So now i cant check emails from it either!
I do hope I can sort this out cos it is really frustrating having a PDA and not being able to browse properly!
Many thanks
Larry
Welcome to XDA-Developers larry. Well Firstly i would start with CID unlocking your device so that you can flash any rom you can do that by downloading hard spl from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
then once you have flashed that you can basically download and install any rom for the hermes. I have an mda vario ii and hate the t-mobile rom as it installs quite a bit of useless crap. I never use and it is also so damn ugly. if after installing a new rom you find you have internet connection problems and/or mms settings then download and run this http://rapidshare.com/files/92547562/UK_Setup.exe that will install the settings for internet and mms for all uk networks, the majority of the cooked roms on here though ,already have a network wizard to set it up for you, but better to be safe than sorry
P.S. I forgot to add if you are looking for speed and extra ram i would look for a vanilla(clean) rom, install that and then add the apps you want via cab files, you will find them scattered about all over this site

all your question answered here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
I have looked thru the wiki and cannot find the advice I need.
My device has the following on it and what I would like to know is if I can actually drowngrade the device back to WM5.
The rom version is 3.60.110.4 (T-mobile UK)
The radio version is 1.50.00.00 so I assume that it is boot 0108.
The IPL is 1.04 and the SPL 2.03.
The protocol reads as follows 32.83.7020.20H
I have come across a guide that states if the radio is above 1.27.00.00 then downgrading may not be possible.
"(NOTE: If your radio version is currently HIGHER than 1.27.00.00 then it is very likely the radio bootloader is version 0108, this WILL NOT allow the radio to be downgraded to a radio containing BL 0106 and will result in a "NO GSM" error.)" -http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=27
The other question I would like to ask is this - it is possible to put another verion of WM6 on with this radio version?
Thanks for any advice!
Can anyone help me here!
Do I need to SIM unlock my PDA to update the ROM to a custom ROM, for example Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.30 which I recently downloaded from here.
At the moment it is locked to T-mobile. I have also updated the SPL to 2.10 olipro and the radio is at 1.50.00.00 and the HTC boot is 0108.
Thanks guys

I think you might not have gotten help 'cause it doesn't look like you've read what people pointed for you to read. Hopefully this'll help you get over the jargon hump and make progress. Having upgraded from the Offical T-Moble rom and swapped ROMs, it's definitely worth taking the time to learn how to do.
SIM unlock & CID unlock aren't the same.
If you've had you phone with T-Mobile for at least 3 month they will let Unlock you SIM (at least they do in the US). Contact them directly, you'll need an active account & phone number with them. This is free.
CID unlocking allows flashing ROMs onto your PDA. For some reason the folks at T-mobile, etc want you to have to look at their stuff every time you use a machine you bought through them. Using a cooked rom is like reinstalling XP without having AOL on your computer, makes life much better.
(flashing = installing to a PDA's Read Only Memory)
(ROM = OS + Radio + other stuff = basically everything thats on the PDA after a hard reset)
Flashing can be a dangerous thing, you don't want to 'brick' your PDA so you install an escape hatch. Hard SPL is that escape hatch.
(Brick = peice of baked clay = your PDA if a ROM install fails and you didn't install Hard SPL first)
The Hard SPL protects you if the ROM you installs fails 'cause power went out, ROM was bad, you bumped the cable, etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Read & Follow the directions.
Select a ROM from here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Cooked_ROMs
I have the same model & just installed Custel V2.5, seems to work well so far (day 2).

Good Luck
Thanks gt, and we have read advice on here but a lot of seems to be conflicting plus we seem to be just going round and round. Yep, ben there, yep read that etc.
I know the diff. between SIM and CID unlock but all I want to know is is it necessary to SIM unlock the phone to update a ROM?
I wont be using another network but will be staying with T-mobile W n W.
I did it!
Well I did it. flashed the phone with Schaps WM6 4.30 WWE.
Have noticed it runs faster than the previous T-Mobile WM6 and has some really neat features-you can adjust a lot more settings on the phone than before, quite impresed! Thanks for everyones help!
