upgrading help - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I was looking into upgrading my HTC tytn to the latest version. For some reason mine will randomly lock up.
Currently I have this info.
Rom:1.18.255.3
Date 07/22/06
Radio: 1.03.03.10
Protocol 32.34.7010.01H
ExtROM: 1.18.255.106
I just want the latest full version out there, not from other providers. Where can I find this?

Man Im new here just like you, but you have got to make an effort to read whats already here.
Have you read this yet? Also, when you say you dont want any ROM's from "other providers" thats kind of difficult to pin point when we have no idea who your provider is.
The info has already been provided on the wiki and upgrading tutorials, I would start there. I think after reading that info if your still having issues then I would ask a question specific to the problem you're having and Im sure someone will answer.
I think everyone will be helpful to those that try to help themselves first.

I read that but still am a bit lost. I use Orange and Tmobile, but the the phone I bought is unlocked and not from a provider

In my opinion, the best ROM right now is 2.05. Radio is 1.27. The "easy" upgrade doesn't give you good and stable performance for the device. So, you really need to read a lot before decide to play around with the phone.

What is the "easy" upgrade?

Download an .exe file from the FTP and double clicking it to upgrade your device. If you haven't unlock/SuperCID your device, you are even more limited in choices.

If you havent SuperCID... Is that an insult?

Help Upgrading XDAIIi

I recently purchased a Himalaya XDAIIi that is currently locked to O2. I want to use it in the US on TMobile. Can someone help get me started in upgrading the radio, OS, and the ROM. I have been reading all the different threads on the forum, but not sure what if anything will work on the XDAIIi or where to even start.
I am really new to the XDA scene, and would greatly appreciate any suggestions so I can start using this apparently awesome device.
Current stats:
ROM version: 1.10.00 WWE
ROM date: 12/24/04
Radio version: 1.00.00
Protocol version: 1337.39
ExtROM version: 1.10.124 WWE
Will upgrading the ROM unlock the phone?
Thanks in advance for any help.
To date I don't know of any rom upgrdes for this device, whilst there is one planned from O2 it has not been released yet
i think you mean unlocking and not upgrading/...
as far as unlocking go ..there are quite a few threads on this forum regarding that.. personally i used imei check .com..
as far as upgrading goes.. none exists as no upgrade rom has been released yet...
jump on the bandwagon.. were all waiting for it..
co-signing with Zohaer on imei-check. I found them to be excellent.
http://www.imei-check.com/
Thanks for the help. I guess I will get in line for waiting for upgrades. Unfortunately, since I am in the US, I'm not sure I will be able to take advantage of any released by O2. I guess I have to hope TMobile will pick up the XDAIIi at some point.
I will keep checking back if you come across any updates. I will give IMEI-check a look.
Have either of you upgraded to WM2005? Would that be a good idea? Sounds like its full of great features.

Well if you have already purchased the IMEI-check unlocker I wouldnt worry about it. You can swap as many times as you'd like with that.
Each ROM has its quirks here and there. There is no perfect ROM. I recommend just try a few out. I have had mine nearly a week and have tried almost all the WWE ROMS. I just changed from the 1.34 Cingular to the HTC. I can see a speed difference in a good way towards the HTC.
It's your world, choose your ROM.

So in your weeks of testing ROMs, which would YOU prefer/recommend?
I too am in the same problem in that there are lots of threads with wows and boo's , but there is no true comparison thread in what it does, does not do, what it has, has not, what stability it has, has not etc etc
With the K-jam, it was clear what ROMs were recommended but here, most are just going in circles askingQ's rather than reviewing roms.
I use the I-mate one after unlocking the M3100 and removing the orange one. While it is good, I am yet to hear what the other ones are like. I would test as you said but with lackof time etc, it is difficult... whichis where you guys come in
I want a stable working phone, andwhat I dont want is to upgrade to a rom (or keep the Imate) get it all up and running and then tomorrow, a much better rom comes out :->
This is in no way putting anyone down, I do appreciate like most of us do, that most of you guys really go out of your way to test/come back to us about how things went.
What would be nice is a definative answer from testers on how the roms were... and maybe a comparison thread too.
Thanks
Well its actually less than a week of testing. I didnt like the graphics in the iMates (mainly the boot up graphics). I also had the problem of the iMAte ROM freezing after installing MMS Composed which I need here in Japan. The Cingular ROMS have great graphics but cant unlock the ExtROM. The Dopod was the first I tried out and it looked great as I remember but I couldnt get it to connect to the internet here in Japan. The HTC seems to be my favorite now cause I dont see alot of extra certain network only apps that I dont need. It also seems to boot faster for me.
With all that being said, I am in Japan and you are not so my perception will be different than yours about which ROM is "the best." I would just say try one of each of the flavors of ROMS.This probably wont help much but I think you'll be happier if you try multiple ROMS out and pick for yourself.
Good Luck
Trying to choose little big problem.....!

Cingular ROM downgrade error
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a Vodafone PDA1605 (HERM200) I've updated the ROM with new Cingular version available on this site (1.34.502, bootloader 1.06), now I need to downgrade to older version with same CID (1.30.502, bootloader 1.04) but I receive an ERROR "Wrong Vendor ID" every time i retry to flash the ROM (following the procedure... restarting the update without disconnecting the PDA).
I've also tryed to put other ROM with bootloader 1.06 (new Vodafone FRA... i will upload when tested) but I receive the Error: "Wrong Model.."
Could someone help me?

Upgrade Question

Please dont flame me. I have done alot of reading ... so much so that I think I have confused myself. I dont need step by steps how to do it ... I just need to know if what I am reading is correct or not.
I installed the new ROM and here is my info.
ROM 2.06.502.3
Radio 1.16.00.00
IPL - 1.00
SPL - 1.09
From there I did the v3 SIM & CID Unlocker ... which I did before but did again because I was not sure if it would stick.
All I want to do is upgrade the radio ... I drop alot of calls and I am hoping that 1.27.00.00 helps.
To do this, would I need to run the program to take my BL v. to 1.01 MFG from 1.09, then upgrade to 1.04. Then I can install a new radio ROM? Or is there something else that is keeping me from doing it.
I am sorry and I promise not to ask anymore noob questions. I just want to make sure I fully understand.
Thanks guys.
Kangle
BTW, I think the new ROM version is great. My 8525 is running better than ever (faster) and battery life is WAY better than it was before. I strongly recommend it. Disable the startup animation though! It sucks and it messes up your volume.
bump
Please, anyone. I really appreciate it.
Well, I am by far no expert on this (and scared of bricking my device) ... so what I did was everything you described ... then I re-installed the new Cingular ROM ... thereby upgrading my radio to 1.33.31.00.
Had I foresight, I would have used the unlocker before upgrading to the new Cinguar ROM (so I would not have to install it twice)...live and learn.
I did not bother with the steps you described necessary to install the 1.27 radio ...figuring I could live with 1.33.31.00
sorry, I misread your post.
-------------
You got radio 1.16 which has radiobl 107, so go ahead and grab a copy of the 1.27 radiorom and run the update.
I read that I need to have BL 1.04 to upgrade the radio.
I currently have BL 1.09. So the only way I can go back to 1.04 is by going to imei-check.co.uk and paying for it right?
Thanks,
Kangle
why do you want 1.27 instead of 1.33?
so, no one answered my prior question ... I realize the Radio ROMs are subjective (and discussed ad naseum in various places on this forum) but I am still looking for a succinct summary (if there is one) as to why I would tinker with my Radio ROM to get off of 1.33 and maybe down to 1.27 or some other.
Are there known and significant issues with 1.33?
Anyone?
I really dont know.
Most of the people I see on the forum are on 1.27.00.
I thought I read somewhere that it seemed to work well for most people, although I do not know why 1.33 wouldnt be just as good. Im still a noob.
If anybody can confirm what I am thinking regarding what I need to do, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Kangle
well, 1.33 is working fine for me... and it certainly would be *easier* for you just to re-flash the new cingular rom again (now that you are sim unlocked and super cid) ... that is what I did, and it worked fine. [and candidly, I was to scared of the many steps I was going to need to take to otherwise downgrade my SPL in order to change my Radio]

No issues with 1.33. The only advantage of the 1.27 radio is that it uses radio bootloader (RBL) 1.007, whereas Radio 1.33 has RBL 1.008. The difference is that you can run downgrades on 1.27, but not on 1.33.
The only reason that you might want to downgrade is so that you may flash a trinity Radio if they manage to get the GPS going, which seems unlikely without a hardware mod. So unless you plan on opening up your Hermes at some stage to do some surgery, you don't need to downgrade the radio stack.

PLease recommend best radio version for Orange UK

I currently have 02.07.10 and am experiencing problems with people calling and going direct to vm when i have 1 bar.
Also when I try to make calls with 1 bar it doesnt tend to connect/terminates the call.
Also can someone please point me in the right direction for the upgrade guide.
Thanks
Rom version 2.21.4.1 WWE
Rom date 3/9/06
Radio version 02.07.10
Protocol version 413.1.03
ExtROM version 2.21.4.101
Is no-one genuinely able to help me or am I asking the wrong questions?
I'm just putting a suggestion out there try searching for *radio rom* in the search this forum tab and browse through the prior posts, I started with 2.25 and have found that the performance of 2.69.11 is preety good, but i have also found others say that 2.19 is the most stable, but you will definately come to find out that radios are more of a trial and error, similar to what OS rom will work best for you, so try a couple and u be the judge performance wise, anyone else?
thanks ezitec, what network are you on out of curiosity?
ps i did searched and not found any specific mention of orange uk thats not to say i didnt miss it though lol
I have no idea about the radio versions. I am using the O2 sim card with my G4 Wizzard (O2 Mini S).
Anyone knows if it is safe to flash either the ExtRom or Radio rom to my CID Locked G4? Thanks
btw, i think my radio works just about fine, neither very good nor very bad.
If there is any issue on flashing the radio to my CID locked G4. Then I will just leave it.
But last time, I did flash the radio rom and Ext rom first before I flash the wm6. I suppose that it is safe to only flash these 2 roms, am I right?

OK but this thread is about which rom is best for Orange users. I must say I'm an Orange user using 02.07.10 and WM6 and haven't experienced enough in the way of problems to make me think about upgrading the radio but I tend to be in areas of good signal. I guess maybe it's an issue of which rom will pick up in low signal situations rather than specific networks?

8525 noob

Ok. i have a 8525 and im considering unlocking it and upgrading to WM6. So far i understand that the advantage to unlocking the phone is that u can use other sim cards beside ur service provider. And i havent read anything about WM6. Wat is the advantage of WM6 over WM5 wat features does it come with that WM5 doesnt have or is just the feel of it that people like more? Do u need to unlock ur phone to upgrade it or vice versa.
My phone:
Herm100
ROM version: 1.34.502.1
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Can ne1 help answer my questions plz?

You don't have to unlock your phone to upgrade to WM6. Read the Hermes Wiki section on upgrading ROMs for lots of great info on upgrading. I'd recommend flashing the official AT&T WM6 ROM with the new radio. If you like it, then consider using one of the "cooked" WM6 ROMs that removes the AT&T bloatware.
I upgraded my 8525 to WM6 a few months ago, and it's far better than WM5. Faster, stable, HTML e-mail. I'd never go back to WM5.
Good luck!

If you need to ask this question then you obviously need to read a bit more The first problem is that when you read more you get more confidence, then you start flashing. This is where your problems begin....
.... too much choice of ROMs
.... better ROMs here than at M$
.... better performance
.... can BRICK your phone if you don't take care
.... loads of add-ons that you didn't know you desperately needed
.... you'll hapilly give up a romantic evening with your missus (man/animal/hoover etc) because you're waiting for the latest Schap's and want to be first to test it
A bit more seriously (from a sarcastic tw*t like me) - your radio is a bit old and could definately do with an upgrade for better performance. Flashing radio's can be more dangerous than flashing OS ROMs so take care and read a lot - and before deciding which radio to try, do some research because everyone here hates the 'which radio is best for me in China/Europe/Mars' type of question. I'm guessing that with an 8525 you are from the good 'ol US of A and the radio's all seem to work differently depending on where you are - do a bit of research on your carrier (cingulat, ATT etc) and I'm sure you'll get some good advice - and if you're with AT&T then you're in luck - VP3G does a great ROM optimised for their network.
Have fun, and if you get hooked say goodbye to the missus (man/animal/hoover)
Well stated ach2. Nicely done! For a sarcastic t*** like you anyway.
Anyway, once you have done some reading and are ready to give it a go, check out THE MRVANX GUIDES to help you get a nice smooth upgrade.
thx everyone for ur suggestions.
it can b a lil overwhelming how much info there is so sorry for a repetitive question.
