Make your X01HT a WM6 Device (for Gaijins) - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

You just got your X01HT and would like to use the latest WM6 ROM in English with your Softbank account ?
Here is a quick guide, gathering information that has been exchanged and spread accross many threads on this forum (Searches can be fastidious, I know that well...)
I have been reading this forum a lot, keeping on asking questions to everybody, so it's time I contribute a bit to help by describing step by step how I switched my Japanese WM5 Softbank X01HT to a WM6 English device
This post is target at Gaijins who want an English WM6, but still want to be able to use Japanese with it. For a Japanese MUI or ROM, I guess Asukal will probably publish something
***EDIT: for a 100% Japanese ROM, you can now have it here: http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=...ge=2#msg-30597 ***
I was first willing to cook a ROM including all these, in order to spare some space on my HERMES. I had already cooked an "intermediary" one when Tadzio issued his method to make a "shrinked" OS ROM that would allow you to use the spare space from the ROM
Since this, no point in adding all these mods in my ROM
First: making flashing safe
Download Hard-SPL-V2 from the great Olipro to avoid bricking your device. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Install it
Then, get your ROM.
Download the_passenger ROM shrink version of LVSW 20070320 ROM (More space available) and install it (Read threads about flashing ROMs if you are not familiar with that...)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8YJATBPG
Install the Softbank AP Settings for your internet connection. You really WANT that. Big thanks to itamae without whom we'd be stuck on first of April this year... (Or I'd still be using WM5)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298031
Now you need a Registry editor
I am used to PHM Regedit. You can find it there for free:
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
To map properly your Softbank Keyboard, do the following registry modifications:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty] "Layout"= 30411 (Hexadecimal base)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload] "Default"= e0010411
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1] "Default"= e0010411
More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...keyboard+x01HT
To allow the video Call key to appear on your phone keypad, modify the registry as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin] Enabled = 1
Optional: getting rid of useless trayapp (It looks nice... but it Slows down the Hermes and you can replace it with better apps)
Delete TrayApp key from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
Fix the disappearing micro SD (Doesnt really work for mine... But could work for yours...)
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]"PNPUnloadDelay" = dword:8196 (Decimal base)
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]"PNPWaitIODelay" = dword:8196 (Decimal base)
More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324
Now time to have your Hermes speak Japanese
Japanese fonts
Use the excellent work from Asukal, that you can find here:
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/LetsJapanNo5.zip
I did have a problem with it: once I executed it, I could not sync with my Exchange server (Quite a pain for my push email account...)
Asukal found the solution: edit the registry, and change
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mobem\CE-Star] "MyNLS" = "\windows\wince.nls"
Japanese input
Not using for myself, but these work perfectly (I tried):
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/BagojsINPUT.zip
Silent mode switch
You're going to be missing the Softbank unique way of switching to silent mode (Only available in Softbank ROM)
The way to go around this is by using Vibra
Details available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ighlight=vibra
Download here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...7&d=1164714506
MMS
Softbank's MMS System is a pain because it's incompatible with "classic" MMS systems...
You can download Softbank's software... But... it's slow, big, bulky, ugly, etc... If you dont mind missing the emoticons, you should go for MMSLite
Regedit, Look for Arcsoft. Delete all references to Arcsoft (Sometimes need to be done in several times, some entries being in use if you have by mistake launched MMS Composer once since your flash of the OS...)
If you dont do these eletions, MMSLite will actually not install...
Downlaod and install MMSLite
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1170599400
It should work perfectly !
I you have enough courage (And ONLY after having installed Hard-SPL 1.11 !!!), you can try flashing your radio
You dont have to... but the latest 1.38 does seem to grant an improved battery life
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297925
Now you're done, you have a great phone with a faster OS, more storage space, improved battery life, that works perfectly with Softbank AP, can use Softbank proprietary MMS system, and can read and write Japanese
After, there are lots of other things you can do, like mounting your Extended ROM to gain extra space, Unlock the SIM, etc, etc... But it is not the purpose of this thread. Have fun reading the forum, it is well documented in other threads
Have fun !!

Totorial: XDAII Extended-Rom

I had a hard time to upgrade and modify my xda2 so I decided to make a small tutorial for everyone with the information’s I found on the forum. It’s not perfect but it could help.
Thank's to every one who made all this possible!!
Before starting I recommend every one to make a back-up of your rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4608
1- Extended Rom:
Your XDA2 has an Invisible Extended Rom in the device containing the operator’s configuration files and software.
Modifying it will allow you to customize the boot image and to choose the programs you wish to install during the setup of the device.
To show the extended rom on your device your need to apply this small hack and then open your file explorer:
http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=1638
2- Files contained in the Extend Rom:
Broadcast_WWE.sa.CAB:
Seems to only set the CellBroadcast setting to enabled or disabled. (I guess this refers to the Reception of News via SMS by selecting channels of interested. Quite expensive I think and only interesting for phones that do not have any other capabilities of receiving and displaying information).
T-Mobile NL sets it on, with O2 it's switched off.
CallerIDRC11_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB:
Installs the CallerID application from IA Style and the Photo Contacts extension. There are other programs that are able to provide this functionality but I use it.
CameraRC131_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB:
The camera application for taking pictures and recording videos. AFAIK there is currently no alternative to this one, you should leave it in your ROM.
GPRSMonitor_WWE.sa.CAB:
Includes the GPRS Monitor from SPB Soft. Very useful I would recommend it unless you aren't going to use GPRS anyway.
MIDI56.sa.CAB:
RingTone plugin player. Allow you to play back RingTones in the following formats: mid,3gp,mp4. Also seems to register the audio/midi MIME type for playback of midi files directly from Internet Explorer.
By default the XDA can play back only wav and wma audio files (AFAIK)
MMS1507_WWE.sa.CAB:
Installs the Arcsoft MMS application for composing and sending MMS messages.
VideoMMS.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Installs the "Video MMS.exe" file into the Windows folder. When you start it you are in camera mode immediately and after you have recorded a picture or video you get into MMS composition mode.
This seems to be just an easier way to compose MMS messages since the main MMS Application (see above) is already able to compose MMS messages.
OEM_AKU1_WWE_4AP.sa.CAB (named OEM_4AP_WWE.CAB in Qtek ROM)
Installs the following files: GPRSAuthentication.exe, BTSetting.exe, STK.exe and WModem.exe
I am not sure if these are customized versions or if the normal ROM doesn't contain them. Well perhaps not because these are specific to the Phone edition so they can't be present in the main ROM, maybe they are contained in the Radio ROM, but probably they are only contained here, meaning you shouldn't remove this cab file.
OEM_WWE_03120301.sa.CAB (named OEM_WWE_03122301.sa.CAB in Qtek ROM)
Installs files for Bluetooth: AudioGW.dll, BthASPlugIn.dll, rilgsm.dll, Serial3.dll and Wavedev.dll. Also contains the new feature of mapping a (dynamic) serial port for BT.
I think you should not remove it.
TM_phone_class10.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Installs several registry settings regarding phone functionality. (See my other post regarding this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5539)
TMCOMREG.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Contains some of the settings contained in the previous one anyway. I'm not sure if it does anything else but I don't think so.
TMD_AP_NL.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Implements several settings specific to T-Mobile (NL): Restricts video types for MMS. Adds connection and gateway settings for MMS connection via T-Mobile NL. Adds a T-Mobile profile to GPRS Monitor.
I would not install this cab unless you live in NL!
TMD_NL.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Sets the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\3rdversion\MSYSTEM1 value to the provider name.
Not required!
TMDNLCustomize.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Adjusts all the "theming" stuff: Changes colors, installs Today-theme, installs T-Mobile Dialpad, sets T-Mobile ringtone.
If you don't like you xda2 look like a pink pig you should leave this out.
(You can extract single items from the cab file if you like)
t-mobile_shortcuts_only(UK).PPC2002_ARM.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Contains some strange things that seem to me rather useless: "WebDisplayText t-zones", "T-Mobile Resetter.exe", "T-Mobile PIE Launcher.exe", "TMobileWebToday.dll", "T-Mobile Homepage Plugin".
I wouldn't install this one!
Version_AKU1.sa.CAB (Version_AKU1_160.sa.CAB in Qtek):
Seems to only set the version number of the extended ROM in the registry.
3- Modifying and editing your Extended Rom:
Most of the latest XDA2 have a write protected Extended Rom
A) For NOT Write Protected Extended Rom:
If your XDA2 Extended Rom is not write protected just add the new files you want, you can find on the forum many different extend rom files (O2, T_Mobile, Orange) and kitchen your own extended Rom by adding the cab files directly in the Extended_rom directory and soft reset.
B) For Write Protected Extended Rom:
The only way for the moment (until we find a way to make the rom writable) is to use the upgrade programs used by the operators and ER2003Edit program.
1)- Download
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/ruu15283.zip
or
http://www.clubimate.com/Support/ruu113sku1.zip
2) Simply unpack the complete T-Mobile Rom update file (it's a zipped EXE) into a folder.
There you will find these 6 files:
- HimaClearJumpCode.exe
- HimaGetDeviceData.exe
- HimaUpgradeUt.exe
- ms_.nbf <----- this is the file which holds Ext Rom!
- NK.nbf (main rom)
- Radio_.nbf (radio rom)
3) Delete the other *.nbf files to prevent updating the full XDA2/MDA2 rom. You only need "ms_.nbf" and the "*.exe" files!
4) Now modify the ms_.nbf with the tool softworkz kindly provided.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/ER2003Edit
5) After this, install the modified ext-rom to your XDA2/MDA2 by starting "HimaUpgradeUt.exe" and follow the instructions!
6) If you get a country code error during the install you will need to modify the country code included in the ms_.nbf file
- Download xda2nbftool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5563
- Put xda2nbftool.exe in the same folder as your ms_.nbf file
- Run xda2nbftool.exe from Command Prompt and type the following command
xda2nbftool.exe -so O2 -v ms_.nbf
Replace O2 by your operator’s name (ex: orange, O2 etc)
It should now work!
cheers,
Yann
nice one Yann
Thanks
I had a go at doing the "if your extended rom is protected"
I down loaded the file
1)- Download
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/ruu15283.zip
and accidentally ran it.... I know I was stupid... I now have an I-Mate instead of a XDA - O2. Please help can I get the O2 back is there a programme that does the same as the one I just have used. It has changed every thing the radio stack, the other bits of software, I am just pleased it still works of calls.
I couldn’t find the indivuiual HimaUpgradeUt.exe programme any ware.
Please help I am really stuck at the minute!!
The bit I didn’t understand was the bit about unpack the exe. Which I now understand how to do. Although I have upgraded to Rom 1.52.00wwe, radio version 1.06.01, I can haply say I have the original O2 rom back in place with additional programmes installed in the Ex-Rom. I had a fair bit of space so I popped some music files in as well!!!!
Thanks for all the help!!!!
thanks yann for the perfect summary
as newby i needed something clear like this to dare my first rom changes, and i successfully did!
it would be even more perfect if also somehow the program settings/passwords could be cooked in/restored from the extended rom. i searched the forum but could not find any hints.
Are there methods for this ?
Perhaps a silly question, but I'm fairly conservative when it comes to messing around with my device.
How do you find out or know if your Ext ROM is write protected or not? I know that I can add applications to my Ext ROM and it does not seem like I should be able to do that if it's write protected, but then again I'm not sure if this matters.
Ed
ed, if you can copy files to your ext-rom via activesync, it is per definition not write-protected.
your not that conservative, because you already run a tool or edited the registry to be able to see the ext-rom
ronald,
Well I guess you are right I do like to play around, as I get more comfortable doing so. It is this Forum, guys like you, and some other forums that have made this possible for me to do. For some reason I'm more comfortable in general hacking around a desktop pc than a PPC.
I thought my Ext ROM must not be write protected. When I deleted the TMD files, described here as useless, I got the message that they were read only, but they did go away from the Ext ROM Folder. I do not notice a big difference, however, nor did it free up that much memory. I was thinking that I might need to do more then this. Do I?
So basically, if my Ext ROM is not right protected, and I have been already loading programs into the Ext ROM, I’m pretty much at the place people are trying to get with the Ext ROM Cook ER...Edit. Is that correct or am I missing something here?
Ed
Ed,
I do not like flashing rom (or bios) on either my desktop or PDA (if not absolute sure to fix bugs). However flashing the PDA's ext-rom can basically not screw up the PDA because you don't touch the OS, so I flashed the ext-rom to get familiar with the PDA flashing in general (and also to have a restore of my standard used software after a hard-reset).
About your ext-rom; I do not recognise your situation. I would say if it is read-only the file will not disappear (like with my PDA).
I did notice while editing the ext-rom file for flashing that the file is fixed ~16MB, regardless of which cab's are included or deleted.
Maybe this is the same effect that you see when deleting the file in the ext-rom ???????? (although I can imagine both effects have no relation)
ronald
Camera Programs
Okay,
I made a custom ROM with the following programs:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CameraRC131_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CallerIDRC11_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MMS1507_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\GPRSMonitor_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Version_AKU1.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\OEM_AKU1_WWE_4AP.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\OEM_WWE_03120301.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\VideoMMS.sa.CAB
Awesome, alot less bloat, but.... Camera doesn't work.. Application says Camera is not a valid Pocket PC application. :: grumble ::
Did I miss something?? Camera.exe is there, but doesn't work
Brandon
My Ext ROM is not write protected, and I'm able to run applications in the EXT ROM Folder. I deleted the 2 TMD and the T-Mobile cab files, but I have not nticed a big difference, nor is my GPRS back to always on, which it should be now.
Perhaps the device requires another hard reset without these cab files in place prior to the changes taking actual effect. Does anyone know if my assumption is accurate about the required hard reset?
Ed
what dictates if the ExtROM is write protected or not? is it the version? or the hardware itself? or a mix of the version with the OS checks?
cuz i believe the ROM version is dictated by the version_AKU1.sa.cab. does that mean we can hack the cab (or use a diff version) to disable the write protection?
i'm using a himalaya btw.
I have a question or two.
I'd also like to know if it is possible to modify CAB files so they install an application and then also put in your purchased key or serial depending on the application so it's already registered to yourself. It seems like it must be possible because the GPRS Monitor on the T-Mobile Extended ROM is already Registered when you try and register it yet I was under the impression it normally has to have a key entered to turn it into the full version with no limits.
This would be great if this was possible, if it's a key file then it's simple to copy it over but how about automatic registry entries? Are these done similar to Windows .reg files? Does anyone have any info if a .reg file can be make and run from the Extended ROM to make changes to the registry? This would also allow me to key in a few other things I'd like presetup.
Is there a way to see what registry changes a CAB file makes other than from purchasing MagicCAB? Is there a free program like this? It seems like a reasonable program from the info but I don't want to spend 10 dollars on a program I might only use once or twice.
Acutally, one more while I'm here. Does anyone have a CAB installation version of CabInstl which puts a shortcut in the Programs or an easy way for me to make that? I've set it up so it will copy the EXE in manually along with a shortcut but I've yet to try it. I think it should work OK I imagine, just might be neater and have an uninstall if it's in a CAB format?
Can you delete files from the extended ROM script? Just so I can clear out a few folders of things I don't want in there when I do a hard reset?
Thanks for all your help. I'm looking forward to making a super kick ass Extended ROM for myself, I'm half way there
Updating the indirect way
Had a few problems with the updating process... and thought i would explain how I got around them!
First I updated to the standard 16007DE ROM
Then I installed the Extended Rom Viewer, and then because it is protected, i copied the contents to my HDD.
Then i tried to open the Rom update from T-mobile with the Extended ROM editor, but kept on getting file access errors The only one i could open was the NL 13006 version. So I changed the splash screen, deleted the origianl contents, and then inserted the contents from my updated original Extended ROM, as well as a few other bits that i could find, IE the extended ROM viewer. It is updating at the moment, So I hope it all works.
I have a few questions though!
Does anyone know a way in which I can automatically install a few themes, and a few ringtones? I have a few MIDI files that i want to be installed into the windows\rings folder, and the themes need to go in a folder called themes in My Documents. I also wanted to ask if there is a way to extract the CAB from another program, for instance Voice Commander. It is an MSI, but only works in windows!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Greets from Hannover, Germany
Juggs :?
Is this going to work:
- Download ER2003Edit
- Download the O2 XDA2 ROM 1.60.50
- Download the T-Mobile MDA2 ROM 1.60.36
- Remove O2 apps i don't want to use
- Add applications from T-mobile rom which i want to use
- Change ROM provider from O2 rom to to T-Mobile
- Save new O2 ROM and upgrade
But... I want to add custom ring tones to contacts, and if possible also want to add custom picture. Also my camera must be able to work. Which software do i need for this?
Because.. All i want to upgrade is today theme to O2's and also the software to 1.60.50... Does the O2 rom also has an "TMDNLCustomize.sa.CAB" ?

2 questions for you,
1. how do i know whether my rom is the editable 1 or the non editable one?
2. I tried option A, just mergly adding the CAB files into the EXTROM but... when the hard reset was perform it did not install the CAB files i added in? what could be the prob i know there is a "autorun.exe" in it but i dunno whether will it affect the process. I also notice a "config.txt" in the extrom, tried editing it but it seems that nothing happen
Reason for adding the cab files is because i was using a 1.72.00 rom with radio stack 1.12 but intend to change it to radio stack 1.14 and also try cooking up my own rom in the ktchen but after doin so its like nothing happen. need some advice for cooking roms in the kitchen been searching the forum... found a few but its all talking about Linux platform.
Hi Kelvin,
1)
The way to know if your rom is not writ protected is if you see a folder called extended_rom in the root of XDAII and if you can add files in it.
If not, there’s a nice tool to make the extended_rom visible and to make it writable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8422&highlight=extended+rom+hide
2) The config.txt is made to lunch the programs in the extended rom when you hard reset the XDA or when it starts for the first time.
You just need to put the cab files in your extended_rom folder and edit the config.txt this way:
Exemple:
I added the cab file vxIPConfig.ppc3_arm.CAB in the folder extended_rom
and added this line in config.txt
CAB: \Extended_ROM\vxIPConfig.ppc3_arm.CAB
Cheers,
Yann
hi yann,
i tried doing that way as i figured out that config is like a startup "prg" to actually start the programs installing when hard reset is performed. But the thing is i cannot make the programs i added in the install after the hard reset is perform. I don't know why but the rest of the cab files can be done. Do adding of all this cab files into the ROM consider cooking ROM??? not really fimilar with the terms of cooking ROM unless that is the way.

Home-cooked 1.72.902 upgrade package (1.72.00/1.17.00) T-Mob

I just put together the following pieces
OS 1.72.00WWE
Radio 1.17.00
ExtROM 1.72.902
"CountryCode" = TMOBILE
All configured for T-Mobile NL
Plz. Post any comments

8-11-2004 20:57 GMT: New version V2 uploaded.
I added a small archive containing the changed ExtROM files to solve the earlier reported errors (not updating ExtROM version and not making IIWPO un-installable).
Comment on IIWPO and making it un-installable: After having customized & installed IIWPO, you will have to do one of the following to make it un-installable if youre using the 1.72.902 ExtROM:
a. Another hard-reset
b. Running Version_172_902.cab from the ExtROM
NOTE: This thread is being replaced by
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=68652#68652
Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am d/l'ing right now and will be installing shortly...
One request... You might want to include the cab for setting up IIWPO in case someone is installing it into the phone.
edsub Thanks.
Question tho. Can I use this for T-Mobile USA and does it fix the MMS problem ?
asking because the version says NL, isnt that the Netherlands country code ?
Thanks again
Well from first look everything seemed ok.
THese are a few of the things I have noticed since loading.
1. The ext rom version # doesn't show up in the info
2. If you use the IIWPO then it still shows in the remove list
3. The new apps from the 187 version will not install no matter what you do. (I have tried adding the ver # in the Reg, both 902, and 187 (not at same time)) Niether worked.
These are the few things that I have found since loading. If I find any more I will loet you know. Other than these I think you havea winner here!
I was wondering about the streaming MMS, the new bluetooth stack, and some of the other new versions of software that came in the 181,187 packages, and why you didn't include or update to them? Was there some incompatibality issue?
Thanks and great job!

Is SRS included?
SRS is not included due to the fact that I don't see any use for it personally. Since it is an ExtROM installer, you could add it yourself.
The NL is only there because some sdetting are more or less specific to the Netherlands. I had feedback on my earlier 1.72.901 package that it worked for other countries (incl USA) as well. Be prepared that the date format will be dutch by default (easy to change via settings though).
Also MMS is suposed to be working (but I have not tried it due to lack of interest in MMS)
The ExtRom# is not showing because some bug in the Version_172_902.cab. Working on that now.
IIWPO not showing in the remove programs list is a bit more difficult than it seems if you install for the first time. Normally you would boot up the device with new rom. IIWPO is NOT installed at this point. Once you have customised & installed IIWPO, you will have to do ANOTHER hard-reset (ie run the ExtRom contents again) to disable the uninstall. You could force this by hand first time to re-run Version_172_902.cab after installing the customised IIWPO. BUT as this cab is not OK, it wont work anyway. Working on that now.
I did not find the time to look into the new O2 apps. If someone finds a solutiuon here, I am more than happy to includew it in a new version.
For the streaming MMS, the new bluetooth stack, and some of the other new versions of software that came in the 181,187 the basic reason is lack of time. I dont know what 'extra' new there is on bluetooth in the O2 builds? OS Rom 1.72 allready has an updated BT stack that fixes most open issues. I have no experience (& interest) in MMS / streaming MMS . . .
I suppose the issue with TomTom locking up without GPS enabled is not solved with this rom ?
I know: wishful thinking..........
@Pleun: Nope. I WISH I would have solved that one!!! FYI: I tested he new TomTom GPS 3.07. It doesnt solve any locking issue and next to that makes my Headset react very slow. Also the 'Bluetooth GPS' option that is supposed to solve the locking has gone, at least with my installation. Not advisable. I reverted back to TomTom GPS 3.03.
@all: I solved the issue of not setting the Ext Rom version and making IIWPO non-uninstallable. New version V2 will be up in 10mins (incl. incremental fix for all that downloaded the version from yesterday).
New V2 is up now. See first post in thread.
Plz keep posting comments to make this upgade better

I feel like my MDA2 is a little bit slower to respond not sure why! I added PocketMVP, Belkin Bluetooth GPS, Resco Explorer 2003 V5.0 and .NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP2 for Pocket PC 2003.
I am having problem with Belkin BT GPS; I got it to bond, detect the COM port (COM5) and baud rate(4800) to use but my MDA2 hangs up and had to soft reset. Any idea why?
I will try to install one by one and see what's causing it and report here.
edsub thanx for me it works great its a great improvement!
machine seems faster and no more lock-ups.
Keep up the good work (ill be following you)
p.s only one thing my battery seems to give me no more than 4 hours of on-time
4 hours is very different from my (and others!) experience. The 1.72 rom should even improve battery life.
My battery lasts for about 1,5 days (not measured but recalled from my memory) with approx 1-1.5 hours on the phone and bluetooth permanently switched on . . .
were can I download this rom from?
from the first msg in this thread : RUU172902WWE_eDsuBsofT V2.exe
Hi me again, dont want to sound stupid but I've tried both Opera and Explorer and cannot find any executable file in the first post. Normally it appear in some sort of info box but none to be seen on this thread and the link to the previous one!?!?! Is this something to do with XP SP2?

You cannot download it as a guest! If you are a member of this forum you have to log-in before you can see the file you want to download. That's what I encountered before so just try logging in first.
Good luck!
THank you very much superperry. Should have registered before but was always too lazy.
I have put together rom upgrade 1.72.903
This thread can be closed. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=68652#68652 for the new one
Edit: The new upgrade files are now available (see refered post)
An error need help please
I downloaded the files then followed the instruction below but now I get error
the flashing process
first the devicedata is obtained from the device, with HimaGetDeviceData.exe, this gets the operatorname, and language/country code from the extended rom, sector 2 of the BDK.
Then a tool 'HimaClearJumpCode' is executed, which erases the jump at the start of the kernel. causing the bootloader to start at next reboot.
the upgrade tool then connects to the bootloader of the xda, via serial over usb. ( port \\.\WCEUSBSH001 )
warning do not just run the 'HimaClearJumpCode' program, it will erase part of your OS rom, after which you will have to repair your device by running an entire upgrade again.

[Mar 8, 2008] WM6 5.2.1711 for StarTrek (OEM, Clean, Neo)

Here I have a bunch of boring ROMs for your StarTrek. I call them boring because they are devoid of any personalization, customization, or 3rd party apps other than what comes with a shipping ROM. These ROMs are OS only, will not change your initial splash or radio (but it does change the operator splash). A text file ReadMe.txt in the download contains brief instructions on how to flash this ROM. Apparently the 3.06 IPL/SPL in QTEK ROMs is broken and cannot recover via MicroSD so I would recommend updating to 4.01.0001 prior to flashing any of these ROMs, although that in itself can be risky (see below for download). Enjoy, and flash at your own risk!
Details
5.2.1711 (Build 18170.0.5.1) Core OS (SYS) is ported from T-Mobile Shadow Feb. '08 update.
OEMAPPS and OEMOPERATORS are straight from CWS 4.1.502.5 ROM. It has the latest camera and apps.
OEMDrivers specific to StarTrek are the latest, from 4.1.502.5 ROM. Some common libraries are from TMO Shadow ROM.
OEM Edition for AT&T 3125 - The same old, boring, Cingular-branded ROM you're used to, only ported to WM6. My objective with the Boring Edition is a ROM that's indistinguishable from what an OEM would put on a shipping device. This is based on Cingular ROM v4.1.502.5 with many changes made throughout to work with the WM6 core, but hopefully the changes are transparent. It comes with all the bloatware and apps that came with the original Cingular ROM. If you want lots of storage and free RAM, this is NOT the ROM for you!
Adobe Reader LE 2.0 (new, from TMO Shadow, replaces original ClearVue PDF)
Office Mobile (new, replaces original ClearVue Office suite)
Windows Live/Live Messenger (new, replaces original MSN Messenger)
Microsoft Voice Command (replaces Cyberon Voice Dial)
English-only xT9 (new, from HTC S730 "Wings", dated Sep 7, 2007, replaces older T9)
Esmertek Java (new, from TMO Shadow update, replaces discontinued Tao Intent Java)
Cingular bloatware, customization, setup, and theme
Clock/carrier block of Cingular theme changed to standard WM6 style (I liked the bigger clock).
SecurityOff (required, because some apps can't install with it on)
Clean ROM WM6 - Similar to the above (same drivers), but lacking Cingular customization and bloatware. Does NOT have Microsoft Office or Adobe Reader. This will leave more storage available for 64MB devices like QTEK 8500 or iMate Smartflip. As this is an unbranded ROM, you will need to manually set up your GPRS and Proxy connections.
Windows Live/Live Messenger (new)
English-only xT9 (dated Sep 7, 2007)
Esmertec Java
Cyberon Voice Dial
SecurityOff (required, because some apps can't install with it on)
Neo Edition Clean WM6 ROM - Same as above, only added Neo theme from the T-Mobile Shadow. No other customizations.
CREDITS
Thanks to pArtizAn (Erofich), Alex[DFR], Strik3r, and Chymmylt for use of the WM6 XIP in early versions of my ROMs. Without it, my first ROM would have been delayed 2-3 weeks.
Known Bugs - Applies to all versions.
Analog Clock 2 and Analog Clock 3 on external display don't look right. NOT a WM6 bug because the original Cingular WM5 has the same problem!
Possible xT9 can't backspace on some websites bug.
Roll your own! Here are the SYS, OEM, and ROM folders for the Clean Edition ROM. Add this to your favorite kitchen. RUU included.
For experienced ROM builders only!

Other Updates
These are from the latest Cingular ROM, newest for STARTREK that I'm aware of. I have tested these and they worked fine on my phone but I am not responsible if you take the risk and they damage your phone! Flash at your own risk!
Download IPL/SPL 4.01.0001 CAUTION: Flashing IPL and SPL could kill your phone... permanently!

Change Log
Mar 6, 2008 - OEM version, single press of RECORD button activates Voice Command. Should support BT activation now. All clean versions now use the same animated HTC splash. Shows HTC logo on outside screen instead of blank (thanks Erofich). I figured how to port XIPs so all ROMs now use my own XIPs ported from scratch. Added Neo and WM6.1 editions.
Feb 21, 2008 - Fixed Vibrate in Profiles bug, possibly fixed Microsoft Live can't connect bug, updated some files (no longer have to press OK after cold boot setup), newer OS build (18170.0.5.1), newer Esmertec Java, Sim Manager, changed Cyberon Voice Dial to MS Voice Command on Boring version.
Feb 18, 2008 - Changed Tao Intent Java to Esmertec Java, T9 to xT9 on all versions. Added download links to latest radio and IPL/SPL.
Feb 16, 2008 - Added kitchen files for Clean Edition.
Feb 15, 2008 - Added Clean Edition. Changes to Boring Edition: T9 problem fixed, Start menu now allows scrolling (no need to press More), SecurityOff to fix programs can't install problem.
Feb 13, 2008 - Original Release of Boring ROM.

Extras
Clean ROM a little too clean? Here are some add-ons in CAB form.
Adobe Reader LE 2.0 Build 288531 (from T-Mobile Shadow)
Neo Black & Blue Theme - Only works on ROMs with Neo integrated. Not just a simple color change, I tried to copy the mockup of T-Mobile Black. It looks almost identical to the mockup on my PC, but unfortunately the conversion from 16.7m to 65k colors results in some false contouring.
thanks man!!
does gprs work in this one?

Changes
Behind-the-scenes changes were numerous, but visible changes are minimal (although I did make a few):
Office Mobile replaces ClearVue apps. Most devices that used ClearVue in WM5 were changed to Office Mobile in WM6 so monkey see, monkey do.
Adobe Reader LE 2.0 from TMO Shadow replaces ClearVue PDF.

Will this work on i-mate SmarkFlip (out of box device without any hacks)
Yes, GPRS works, but I use T-Mobile so I had to add a connection to T-Mobile GPRS. It should work with Cingular/AT&T as-is.
It should work on a SmartFlip, but I'm not sure if you need to CID unlock first.
Downloading and installed...
Attempt 1: Read everything within the Word file. Installed right from the RomUpdate program in the root directory of your
WM6 update. Didn't work, so I will attempt what you have in the Readme text file in my next attempt....
Attempt 2: The Update Utility program says version 3.12.3.1 on the title while the pictures you have in the word file says
version 2.99. Also, when I go through to update ROM, it verifies my current Image version as 4.1.502.5,
I click Update and the next screen it indicates that it will be updating from my current version to the
new version of 1.00.000.0. Then, a minute or so later, I get the following message:
ERROR [270] : UPDATE ERROR Image file is corruprted. Please check your Update Utility.
Do you know how I could resolve this matter because you do not list error 270
within your troubleshooting material? Your UpDate program is not even the same version!
Vista Home, Cingular 3125 unlocked with current released Rom version. So, what am I missing here?
Sorry, I shouldn't have included the Word doc, it's the standard doc that came with the RUU and happened to be in the folder at the time.
Are you using SoftSPL? You MUST use the SoftSPL, it won't work to just run the RUU. The doc I wrote is ReadMeWM6.txt.
You also need to CID unlock according to the sticky thread.

@kumar00455,
GnatGoSplat noted that this should work on any StarTrek, but there is something you should be aware of. In the past, it seems like a lot of people that have tried a Cingular ROM on a StarTrek that is not a 3125 model have not liked it, because they ended up with too little storage memory. This is because Cingular has loaded a ton of large crapware programs on their ROMs. Now, that isn't a big problem for the 3125, because it is actually different hardware from all other StarTreks - it has double the storage memory (128MB) all the other StarTreks (which have 64MB). Since GnatGoSplat has tried to make this just like a Cingular ROM, with all the added programs, you may find you have the same problem. However, I do think there is a thread here somewhere that talks about how to clean all the crapware off of a Cingular 3125 ROM and reclaim some storage memory.
@GnatGoSplat,
Thanks for putting this together - I think I will try it soon on my 3125! I would be very interested in a cleaned-up version and a kitchen as well. And of course, many thanks to Erofich and everyone else who worked on getting WM6 on the StarTrek. I thought we would never see this day!
Oh yeah, I forgot the 3125's have double the storage memory!
I'll make a slimmer, cleaner ROM as soon as enough people have tried this one to confirm it doesn't have any significant problems.
What apps are essential to keep in a cleaner ROM and which can go? What are typical apps that come on a Smartflip or 8500?
device PIN lock working?
Can anyone who has tried this ROM tell me if the security PIN lock works correctly without any problems? I sync my 3125 with my corporate Exchange server, and our IT people enforce a device PIN lock requirement through the Exchange server. So I have to enter a 6 digit PIN if the phone has been idle over an hour. Anyway, I'm interested in flashing this ROM, but if there is any problem with that functionality in this ROM, it would be a deal-killer for me... Thanx...

I do like your approach here, though. Start with something as much like the carrier ROM as possible until you know that it's pretty stable, then put it on a nice diet to make it lean and mean. Makes good sense to me...

Put it in the root of your device /not/ Windows. Start softspl.lnk as it says in the manual
I tried to use the program you directed the user to transfer. Everytime I clicked on it, I would get an error which stated that the link's program could not be found.
Don't get me wrong over here, I read the directions a few times and did everything you instructed. I am pretty good with directions and I am not one for doing things my own way. If I could help in anyway, just say something. I have alot of times on my hands and I am educated in matters, like, programming on my home desktop.
I made several attempts, I still get the same error, time and time again.
Are you trying to run the correct SPL? The one that looks like a square with a blue bar on top is the correct one. The one that looks like a piece of paper with the corner folded and a Microsoft icon in the center is NOT the right one.
Also, copy ONLY the files and NOT the whole folder. All these files need to be on ROOT folder of your device. If you're using ActiveSync, when you open your device icon, it defaults to My Documents so you have to go to My Device.
Okay, there we go. I copied the entire folder. Sorry. :O(
I'll make a new attempt in just a few.
UPDATE: I tried it, and now instead of an error, it just doesn't do anything. Sorry.
GnatGoSplat -
Thanks man, this ROM has been perfect so far. Just like my previous cingular rom with WM5. You did a superb job. This is just what I was looking for. Thanks Again!

I like, I dislike in the AP4 ROM.....

26/04/08 Update: some "i dislike" solved, check AP4 FAQ for solutions, Tips and Tricks
I am trying to open this thread to help AP cookers to have a single point to check for pro and cons in AP4, avoiding to post BUGS here.
Please explain WHY you dislike something
I've tested it for a while and:
I LIKE:
better battery life in my regular usage
the self portrait/landscape function
touchflo responce (after some tuning)
WM6.1 (SMS and IE)
Latest opera
Stability
I DISLIKE
The BIG htc home (to much home screen real estate used), and resources hungry too! (FULL SOLVED BELOW, 4th post)
The new USB Storage can't show the microdrive (PARTIALLY SOLVED BELOW, 4th post)
The slow keyboard responce (I've installed RESCO too, same delays) (FULL SOLVED BELOW, 4th post)
The comm manager without 3g enable/disable (good for battery saving purposes)
The flashing process, without any user control (I've copied the file unzipped during the installation process and i've dome some "reverse enigineering") I believe it could be done using a simpler command file, from command prompt windows, explaining step by step what is going on. Less "tricolours screen" and better debugging

thanx for the opinions and feedback. for the slow keyboard response i would try the tweak that turns off the et9. its found in the main thread and will come in the new version of the config app.
the comm mananger was already in the x7510 rom so i just kept it as it is. i see though that it would be a good idea to add the 3g. i need to check if this comm mananger supports changing its function like the one i have in my polaris rom. then i could just have cmonex add a new tab to the config app where u check what options you like in the comm mananger.
i believe the usb to pc tool when turned on to mass storage mode lets you add to the microdrive.
the big htc home can be replaced with the smaller qvga one via the addons rar.
the flash process you would need to discuss with olipro/cmonex. i though believe its as simple as possible right now but i could be wrong.
A problem, for my important one, is that it occupies much memory. It is to say..., in my single country exist maps for GARMIN XT and if I install MANILA to him DIALER does not load GARMIN to me XT by lack of memory, if I install plugins to him in the TODAY does not load the GARMIN to me by lack of memory...
in the AP3 no....
Some Dislike Solved
1. Big HTC Home
go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2053447&postcount=2
download addons.rar
unrar and install HTCHome_1025_721_ALL.cab
FASTER, also in portrait/landscape switching!
2. USB to Storage and Microdrive
Miletb suggest to change:
HLKM\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\Mass_Storage_Clas s\DeviceName from DSK2:
to
DSK1:
it will work fine - transfer speed is also good
If you want storage card later you will need to change back to DSK2:
3. SLOW KB FEEDBACK:
PAWEL sugges to to change:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409]
"Layout Text"="eT9 IME"
"Ime File"="\\windows\\eT9ime.dll"
to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409]
"Layout Text"="COMP IME"
"Ime File"="compime.dll"
this will fix 1)the suggestions dialog in sms/emails being missing 2)the accented characters 3)the slow Kb feedback
P.S. To reduce/cancel the TT landscape/portrait switching during driving, just tune the position of the gooseneck support. It is stable in my tests in landscape mode leaving the top 2 cm backward from the bottom (the top is closer to the windscreen). I drive a Nissan Pathfinder http://www.nissanusa.com/pathfinder/ and my tests were really HARD

exactly what is your suggestion anyway? is the way HTC wrote ROMUpdateUtility.exe not good enough for you? or what did you mean, please elaborate.

Reverse engineering in simple words means to use tools to monitor the program execution, dump the memory used, the data flow trought the USB port, then to have a team analyzing all the info and trying to understand what's going on (and I have time, tools, and team)
I mean the process control. RUU is just a PART of the AP4 flashing process. If I want to flash AP4 again I can't do without flashing the SPL again.
You've built a new tool, NOT a plain RUU. AP3 new version is a plain RUU, AP4 IMHO is a batch process launching RUU, undocumented
I like to have a clear view of the processes, is hard to ask to HTC to show their processes, and you and olipro (and some others, POF is great too..) have done a good job in RUU reverse engineeering (RUU is a batch process too, from HTC...). I would like to have the AP4 .exe documented, having also the view of the .nbh and of the other tools used. May be others can build a new ROM to share, based on the new partitioned ATHENA!
The ATHENA flashed with your tool now is the WORST ATHENA in the world
1) no warranty, no way to go back
2) the only ROM available are AP3 and AP4. None can put a new ROM on it!
3) no official ROMs anymore
4) no "self cooked" ROMs anymore
PRACTICALLY SPEAKING IS NEEDED:
1) a simple tool to go back
AND/OR
2) a clear documentation of the changes done and the tools used
BTW I respect your good job, a tuned AP4 is a good ROM, and we are here to help ATHENA/AP4 to be the best device (and to play with knowledge)
3G button in comm manager solved
Just use schap's advanced configuration tool and ADD it Download it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=367043
I've removed the push e-mail button because the AP4 comm mgr default layout can have 6 buttons only, and I've added the 3G on/off.
The tool could be "device customized" shoul be nice to have an ATHENA version....

so i guess i have the comm mananger in there that u can set what items you want in it. hehe ok there will 100% be a 4.1 I think that will be finally what people wanted from 4.0 and i'll make this one a public beta first so we wont have any issues like 4.0
thanks for your post, I might have previously misunderstand your word usage of RE. so what did you do exactly?
because you people were so impatient we just released AP4 and a flasher, if you all had waited patiently, you'd have got it with extras, such as AP4 vanilla (not requiring new SPL), a standalone AP4 full feature rom (with special NBH header so only new SPL will accept it so no risks!!), and a downgrader utility.
but you will get those anyway just wait a bit more patiently.
until then, if you have an urgent warranty problem and *must asap* downgrade to stock ROM, just let me know in a PM.
also, you are a bit wrong about flashing the SPL again - the AP4 flasher checks if you already got SPL 3.50 on, if you do have 3.50 then it will not reflash the SPL (as that would be pointless as we can agree).
what kind of documentation do you need of the AP4 flasher?
here's what it does:
1. you run the athenaupdater exe, it seems to be waiting for something while it extracts itsutils (pmemdump and stuff)
2. the something is to determine if the Athena is running WM or is put in bootloader (if some moron doesn't read the excellent HowTo a link to which is included at the athenaupdater download) - it does it in the following way: attempts to push pmemdump to the athena, if that fails then after 1 min of waiting it'll error out and shows you the ****sticks message
3. if it finds the athena running WM then it also checks the bootloader version by reading a fixed memory location. then compares bootloader version to 3.50, if it is 3.50 then it won't flash the new spl, if it is not 3.50 (can safely assume it is below 3.50) then launches RUU which then launches SSPL (named version 3.15 and will only accept signed SPL's, signed by public htcdevs cert) as the enterbootloader.exe
otherwise just launches RUU with normal enterbootloader and the overwrite protection of the SPL 3.50 won't let the SPL in the big NBH flash.
4. the NBH flashes and the athena is supposed to nicely reboot to AP4.
if you cancel the process you can be left with corrupt wifi/modelid.
+1: for extra safety the NBH has the special header already so no moron can flash it to SPL 1.20 if they manage to quickly put the device in bootloader after the pmemdump check ran.
well I think that's it.
one last question, what was the note about no self cooked roms?
it is entirely possible, you can take the nk.exe module either from AP4 or from AP3newSPL (or use AP3newSPL as base if you are afraid of xip) and use that to make your rom compatible with the new SPL.
and there'll be a downgrade tool anyway.

May be the best solution could be to build XML config file with AP4 cheats and import it into the Shaps default tool.
There are may tweaks in the "basic" tool usefull for AP4 too. Comm manager buttons and many others.
You have a great knowledge about AP4 and about the tweaks used, the fine tuning could be done using the Shaps tool, customized with your XML file as explained
From Schaps
(...) But things changed since 2.x releases, now you can add your own tweaks or translate Advanced Config. by yourself using XML files!
(...)
XML configuration files are named AdvancedConfig_XXXX.xml where XXXX is Locale ID (English and French available at the moment). They contain list of registry tweaks organized by categories.
Here is XML configuration file structure, which is quite simple:
Code:

because you people were so impatient we just released AP4 and a flasher, if you all had waited patiently, you'd have got it with extras, such as AP4 vanilla (not requiring new SPL), a standalone AP4 full feature rom (with special NBH header so only new SPL will accept it so no risks!!), and a downgrader utility.

Thank you, for the complete answer and the really interesting schedule
I am patient, as I told in other 3ds, and as many of us I like to play with WM6 knowledge.
I will suggest just a change in the schedule: Downgrader first, Vanilla second and AP4.1 (I've seen a lot of interesting improvements suggested from other users) third
So far these are my finding,
I LIKE:
1. the HTC and Athena Project logo - beautiful
2. the self portrait/landscape function – a little jumpy therefore disable it
3. touchflo response – excellence now I can brake
4. WM6.1 – no comments
5. Latest opera though not as responsive as IE, still trying hard diplomatically.
6. Stability – yes, as good as AP3
7. mic reception – great improvement compare to AP3, not sure is becuz of radio change, handfree call effortlessly
8. speed and memory – no issue so far with all my favorite sw running.
9. splash screen – beautifully done
10. HTC home – best with “ HTCHome_1025_721_ALL
11. AP 4.0 HTC X-Button – wonderful to kill background sw
12. WOW HD Setting – greatly improve audio quality in speaker and earpiece
13. GPS fix – better than before, could be due to radio version
14. Bluetooth - discovered range improved with my S705, never from AP3 or radio 1.50

1. Big HTC Home
go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2053447&postcount=2
download addons.rar
unrar and install HTCHome_1025_721_ALL.cab
FASTER, also in portrait/landscape switching!
2. USB to Storage and Microdrive
Miletb suggest to change:
HLKM\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\Mass_Storage_Clas s\DeviceName from DSK2:
to
DSK1:
it will work fine - transfer speed is also good
If you want storage card later you will need to change back to DSK2:
3. SLOW KB FEEDBACK:
PAWEL sugges to to change:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409]
"Layout Text"="eT9 IME"
"Ime File"="\\windows\\eT9ime.dll"
to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409]
"Layout Text"="COMP IME"
"Ime File"="compime.dll"
this will fix 1)the suggestions dialog in sms/emails being missing 2)the accented characters 3)the slow Kb feedback
P.S. To reduce/cancel the TT landscape/portrait switching during driving, just tune the position of the gooseneck support. It is stable in my tests in landscape mode leaving the top 2 cm backward from the bottom (the top is closer to the windscreen). I drive a Nissan Pathfinder http://www.nissanusa.com/pathfinder/ and my tests were really HARD

Can't help myself
This thread is one of the most useful (meaning: if the info's not in here I have found it from what is here) about a ROM I have ever read.
More than that, I saw lots of potential for heated defensiveness, but somewhere that energy got sucked up (I hope it got burned off in the right place). I can't tell you how personally edifying it was for me to read such a grown-up and intelligent conversation in this forum.
I'm glad I have a x7501. Thanks.

Registry Wizard for Himalaya

Hi all,
I have asked Nicodekker if it is possible for us to use the source for his Registry Wizard application (I am aware you can download it in the first post, but I want to know if I and others have permission to change it).
The Application is described in the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=255225
Using the source, I would like to make a Registry Wizard for Himalaya specifically, probably based on the registry of WM6.1 (C_Shekhar) with 30.53mb page pool, as this is the newest Rom, and as it is possibly the last to run well on ours phones, I imagine it will be the most long-lasting Rom as well.
So with this thread, I would like to start a list of registry hacks that are either:
A) Included in all WM6.1 registries (so as not to stuff our phones up with a registry change that doesn't exist).
B) Is not included in all WM6.1 registries, but IS included in the Himalaya's WM6.1.
C) Cannot be changed using the built in software already in the phone IE You NEED a registry editor (or this registry Wizard program) to change the setting.
As people suggest them, I will start making a list (edited into this first post), and eventually (though not in the immediate future, as I need to get VB2005) put them into a workable program, if given nicodekker's permission. That is of coarse, unless someone else (like Ather or C_Shekhar) beats me to it! Which would be just as awesome, as one way or the other, we would still have an awesome application!
Reserved...possibly for list.
