Andes / XDA 2i Wifi Aerial? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi,
Part of my work includes surveying areas for signals. I'd ususally use my laptop for this but it would be a lo simpler to use my XDA. Does anyone know where about on the phone the Wifi Antenna is (id presume witht the GSM antena?) so i can patch in a pigtail adapter lead.
Cheers,
Jim

XDA II with bluetooth Belkin GPS

I'm trying to get a belkin bluetooth gps to work with mapopolis. I am running 1.60WWE version rom. Reading through the forum it looks like one of the easiest solutions to get it to work is to install the pocket bluetooth tools. Does anyone know of an easier way or know of an english rom that will work natively?
TIA
1.60 worked for me. You just have to make sure you pair with the GPS using the Bluetooth settings dialog with the COM ports selected.
Frankly, I think the Belkin Navigation System software (from Netropa) that came with the Belkin Bluetooth GPS is better than Mapopolis. The Mapopolis voice prompts are unintelligible.
Works for me too without any problem... I am just using Pocket Bluetooth tools... (T-Mo 1.60 ROM) And the software that came with it is perfect for my need as of right now. I never tried any navigation software but I like it very much.
Also I flash my XT mode to use XT2 and it works like a charm. Flashes it with Fortuna clip-on software. All instruction is on www.gpspassion.com (But you're voiding your warranty!)
Good luck!

What is the advantage of going to the XT2 version instead of just staying in ST?
Thanks,
Andy
XTrac is a mode that allows for greater accuracy in marginal GPS Signal reception areas (tree cover, urban canyons, indoors etc), XTracV2 is an enhanced version of this with even greater signal sensitivity.
The downsides ox XTrac are a marginal increase in the delay before position is reported which may be unwelcome when utilised for in-car raod navigation.
See our Fortuna Clip-On Review (the Belkin GPS is a re-badge of this model) which contains a detailed explanation of XTrac.

Yeap! That's the advantage of XT2 accuracy and reception. And with XT2 warm-up or cold start (cant remember what you call it) is a bit faster than ST, most of the time I get a locked on satellite in less than 20 secs.
And about delay while driving, I most of the time using it in my car but I don't see much of a delay. I leave in Seattle, WA and most of the time weather is cloudy and or raining. I am using XT2 since I upgraded it.
Can someone post the upgrade program here? Apparently, Fortuna has removed it from their web site again.
Thanks in advance!
Can somebody recommend what they would consider to be "the best" GPS software. Am I right in thinking tomtom is pretty good. Main usage would be on foot navigation. Extensive and up to date map coverae would be crucial.
Thanks!
Edit: pocetpc software I mean! (Fairly obvious I know but I thought I should clarify  )

Fortuna help!
I am in London and cannot pick up a stelite for the life of me in ST mode?? Is this an urban canyon/wheather issue, or a nad TT3 install issue? I can only read satelites in XT mode??? Have other city users experienced this issue?
Thanks
Bluetooth GPS problems with Mapopolis
I have read over this thread but can't tell if my problem is related. I have the emtac bluetooth gps receiver and Mapopolis installled on my XDAII. It seems to bond and communicate well but when I start the mapopolis software it freezes up. It seems to be running very slowly.
Any suggestions?

I have tried both SmartST from Navman and Tomtom3 and I must say that I prefer the latter. Navman's solution is nice and feature rich but the navigation is sucky. Sometimes it can even navigate in circles... amazing

samsung hermes gps question

Hi, today i got my htc hermes. it comes with a samsung cpu.
now i want gps functionality but right now i am a noob on this terrain.
is it possible to geht gps working?
is it possible to get gps working without hardware mods?
is it tricky to get gps to work?
thanks for your help
There is no internal GPS support in the Hermes.
What if we were up for h/w modding?
Possible then?

This has been long discussed in the past. It looks like the chipset has an integrated GPS but it is not connected. Yes, you might be able to open your device, find the right place, iron on a clean enviroment an antenna, find a room for it in the device box and then close it all together and hope to get anything. However, it is much safer and easier to use a BT GPS receiver.
i have heard...
i have heard that the TyTN has an gps module inside but only the antenna is shortened.

It has but it is far more disabled than just the antenna, there is no power supply and the board is multi-layered which prevents regular hardware mods anyway. Even if you could do it, it would not be worth it IMHO.
There is a long existing thread on this if you want more info.
It's not even close to being a practicable possibility. As suggested above a small BT receiver works very well anyway and you just keep the BT in your pocket so no real inconveniance.
Mike
ok thank you

I hope someone here can make it work..

I used HTC GPS tool and some gps related DLLs.I will post the files and procedure once I get the GPS apps to use that port.
Perfect Hdubli....
You are right about GPS... I've already seen a device with GPS turned ON in Dual....as i wrote in my last post.
Good Luck and keep us in contact!
Bye
Typical, I ordered my HTC Touch on Friday (Arrived today), Then someone posts something like this.
Well thanks to good 'ol Orange My HTC Touch Dual will be here wednesday
I just hope now that this can be acheived, as I didn't really want to loose Wi-Fi, but having GPS builtin will be worth it.
And if I can help by dumping files from either device I'll gladly do it.
the chipset is definetly supporting GPS, but without a build-in antenna, I believe you won't have a good signal

There is no built-in antenna because of space limitations. I have heard this from a person working for a company selling the DUAL.
Funny how people think.
The qualcomm chip can undoubtedly handle the wifi & the gps.
But the chipset only won't do much good without an *antenna*, for wifi or gps.
You know, the thing that actually gets the signal, just like the one you need to have to watch TV.
An antenna costs money. There is absolutely no way HTC would build a phone with antennas for gps & wifi, without putting support for it in it just for licensing reasons.

fully agree!
Hasn't IceHack mentioned though that he's seen a dual with Wifi and GPS working with tomtom....which must mean it has the antenna.
Also wasn't it the same with the p3600 at release the GPS didnt work and it wasn't in the specs but later rom updates unlocked the GPS......... and the same with the s730 smartphone, not in the actual specs but present in the hardware.
So im hoping this is the case with the Dual ....all the hardware's there including antenna just needs unlocking with future rom updates or hacks.
Hopefully thats the case anyway..gps and wifi in the dual would be perfect and a great replacment for my kaiser.
keep up the good work.
Yes guys, as I told you I saw a Dual with this functions active!
i'm sure that was not a MicroSd - Wifi or and GPS BT near to the device!
As happened with my P3300 I saw excatly the same ways of connects....
Now, I really don't know how to do that... even if I don't think that HTC's has decided to unmount the antenna but leaving these settings in it!
Don't you think it doesn't make so much sense?!

What's required for Sat Nav?

Hi guys,
Excuse my ignorance, but what do I need to use my XDA 11s as an sat-nat device. I have Tom-Tom software and niavely thought that was enough, however when I run the program it says "No GPS Device".
Also does anyone know where I can buy a replacement pen, I bought my device 2nd hand and the pen that came with is not the original and so it does not fit in the slot snug.
Many thanks in advance!
Rob.

You need a physical GPS receiver, you can find inexpensive bluetooth receivers all over the internet and possibly in local shops. Search google for "BT-GPS" and you should get alot of replies

Another great opportunity for google, I searched "i-mate+pda2k+stylus" and got 15,700 replies, here is a random site:
http://www.mphone.co.uk/acatalog/pda2k-stylus.html
beside new BT GPS you can also use old gps devices from the qteks 1010 and 2020 (mine is from the 1010)
you can obtain stylus from an ebay.
I think you will find that the stylus is not snug because the plastic clip inside the case is broken. Buying a new stylus willl not fix this problem. There are instructions somewhere on this site on how to fix this problem
A good GPS is the "Holux GPSlim 236" provides excellent reception and is able to be found on ebay.

wifi broken - has anyone already replaced the wifi chipset?

Hi,
I'm not able to activate wifi anymore (even after a full Odin restoration) on my SM-T820. So I guess the wifi chipset is dead. Is anyone here has to changed it?

Is Bluetooth working?
This is a 2nd hand tab that I got at low price one because BT wasn't working (wifi was working flawless)
I didn't care because I don't need BT but now, I find out it was the same chipset for both and realize I should have been more careful.

So neither works.
Pretty much out of luck unless your prepared to use a mobile data dongle or a usb ethernet adapter.
Unless you're skilled at smd and bga removal then repair us pretty much out of the question.

Perhaps there are some USB-C wifi dongle somewhere, It's mostly for a home usage. I will check. It would be a good way to extend my tab's life without reducing my wallet's one !

I doubt there's anything specific due to drivers being an issue.
You may get lucky if you find out which chipset the tablet uses then try and find a dongle that has the same chipset.
You would need to connect it via OTG.
Won't be easy

Have you considered a Bluetooth dongle via OTG? Certain dongles may work.
Here in the states we have https://www.ubreakifix.com/ so you may see if there is some similar service near you.
I asked for repair quotation and it's around 120 euros. Still searching for a compatible BT or Wifi Dongle
