Desktop SMS Manager V2.04 + Smartphone 1.11 - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

I'm no longer working so I've removed the link to my old company.
I've added test version of the cab file that hopefully fixes group sms messages. PocketSMS204.cab
I've just uploaded another release of the desktop application that does not expire.
Version 2.03
Added File\Preferences to allow for different inbox and sent folder names.
Fixed the Invalid Address problem on the pocket pc when sending messages.
Version 2.02
Fixed ip issues on the pocket pc, Moved the files into your "my documents"
Saved the distribution lists.
Version 2.01g Pocket PC Cab - removed
Even more error trapping. ...... Well I thought the new library worked
Version 2.01f Pocket PC Cab
Error trapping for ObjectDisposed problem
Version 2.01e Pocket PC Cab
Fixes date issue on new SMS
Version 2.01d Desktop and Pocket PC installs.
I've made a few tiny cosmetic changes to the desktop application and re-built the Pocket PC application to make sure it is Compact Framework 2.0.
Version 2.01c PocketSMS.cab
New version of the inthehand library so it should work better )
Version 2.01b PocketSMS.cab
I've added a new PDA version with a tiny fix for people with no inbox folders.
just install this instead of the cab with 2.01.
I've gone back to an earlier release of the inthehand library and deleted one line of my code.
Version 2.01
I've finished putting the menus back together that I broke when making the app pretty.
Message Interception now should work better and not crash the app.
Version 2.0
I've upgraded the design and fixed a few issues. Many of the (context) menu actions don't work at the moment but will as soon as I get round to them.
I found I needed to soft-reset my device after the install.
If you have used previous version then copy your original sms.xml and contacts.xml files to the new program directory on your desktop before you run the application the first time.
Version 1.12 (removed)
1. More Error checking.
2. Excel Export
3. Extended character support.
I've added a Smartphone 1.11 cab file.
Version 1.11
This has the new inthehand library which solves a major issue with sendind SMS messages.
It need to access your phone number. On some phones it does this by accessing the SIM card on others it gets the number from the Owner information.
Version 1.09
Hopefully this will solve the Connection problem one or several people have been having.
Version 1.08
Fixed the invalidcast problem and tidied up the communication from the pda to the desktop.
Version 1.07a Desktop and 1.07 Pocket PC release.
27th Oct Added more error trapping to the pocket pc application, now added a smartphone 1.07 release. Smartphone users need to get the desktop application from the other zip file.
I've tidied a few things up and fixed a few reported bugs.
I'm looking for feedback now on what people would like next.
Pocket SMS V1.06 (Alpha) is available.( removed the binaries)
V1.06 takes some of the processing off the phone and moves it to the desktop so the performance is so much better.
Just added PocketSMS_Smartphone_105.zip This contains a totally untested build for the smartphone.
Install the PocketSMS_SmartPhone.Cab on your device. You may need to install the inthehand.mobile.2.1.cab too.
Pocket SMS is a desktop SMS Manager designed to interface directly with Pocket PC Phones.
Key features:
Full Backup of All text messages
Chat history by Contact
Send Text Messages from the desktop
Distribution Lists for sending Scheduled text Messages
Folder Management
Telephone a contact
Instructions
For Pocket SMS to work you must be connected via Activesync or, for Vista users, Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1 (or better).
The software comes in two parts: the desktop Manager and the pocket pc client. You must install the PocketSMS.Cab on your mobile device and the SMSManager.msi on your desktop. In addition if you have not already installed Compact Framework 3.5 on your mobile then run NETCFSetupv35.msi on your desktop to do the installation. You can doenload the Compact Framework here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...37-A62F-4A6E-9727-7791BF4CC2BD&displaylang=en
The first time you connect, depending on the performance of your phone and the number of messages in your SMS folders, Pocket SMS can take quite a few minutes to “look” as if it’s working ….. be patient.
Your Contacts can be downloaded by using File\Synchronise Contacts.
You can view all the contacts by double clicking on "Contacts" in the view.
You can create as many Distribution Lists as you like and Lists can contain more lists or people. You can drag and drop people or messages into any list.
I'm adding more features as I can and still trying to improve the reliabliity.
Let me know what changes you would like.
Regards
Pete

Hi
I'm writing a free desktop SMS manager that will allow you to:
backup SMS messages onto your desktop.
Send texts from the desktop.
Dial a contact from the desktop.
Reply,Delete, Move folders.
View texts by contact.
I would also like to add MMS messages but have failed to get anywhere with them. I have contacted Arcsoft but the very nice VP of Sales wants $200,000.00 for his developer kit.
Has anyone had any luck in interfacing to the Arcsoft MMS?

Thats very interesting!
keep on the updates !!

Well, regarding MMS, what you "could" do, is call the pocket pc composer via a RAPI call. Other than that, you'll definitively need some kind of SDK, since the MMS service is not a standard one.

Wow, I can't wait infopete
That sounds like a great app you are working on, even if you cannot get the MMS portion to work. Please let us know when the app is ready and how we can obtain it. I'd definitely like an easy desktop means of backing up my SMS messages. I always hate having to lose them when I do a hard reset. Keep up the good work and thank you for your efforts.

Pete,
If you are gauging interest for this app then I, for one, am definitely interested. Looking forward to it, especially the backup facility.

SMS manager
Hi,
Peter Foot of inthehand fame is hoping to do something with MMS. So I may be able to extend the Manager to MMS later in the year.
The second alpha release should be by Monday. The xda-orbit guys gave me a big list of "wants" while I was on holiday and I'm working through this before the next release.
If you have any definate requirements (other than the obvious) let me know.
Pete

Just wondering, doesnt SOTI PocketController do all the things you have mentioned from your phone?
You just go to create an SMS when your connected and type it in with your keyboard - the keyboard inputs it on your phone via your computer.
Maybe im missing the point of what your trying to do?

SOTI
Hi
Soti is an excellent tool, I use it all the time.
I agree the functionality I'm offering will be much as you get on the XDA.
But this way you can delete messages off your phone and keep a history on your desktop.
Plus the interface should be quicker and of course much much bigger.
Pete

SMS Manager Alpha release
Hi,
the next alpha release of SMSmanager is here. It's not finished so some things don't work. However, I'd like to get it tested and have some feedback before I go much further.
I have attached a zip file. Unpack it. Copy the cab file to your phone and install it on the device. (not the storage card). I had to do a soft reset on mine before it appeared in programs. Do not start the application.
Then install the desktop application and launch it.
If i've done my job right the desktop application will launch the pocket application and they will start to chatter to each other.
All your texts and contacts should appear on the desktop.
If you have any problems email me
I've tested it on an Orbit and an Exec.
Regards
Pete

Now that is really cool, it crashes alot on vista, but if i stay in the inbox all the sms can be read fine.
there is a strange horizontal bar that i keep managing to grab with the mouse and its only once actually resized anything.
When trying to send a txt i got this error
Unhandled exception has occured in your application
I clicked continue, it crashed
anyhow...this is only the 1st alpha, and you proved it works, if you want me to post the full error i got when sending lemme know,
I can see this app evolving into what has been needed for years
As youve got it setup, ive had nothing to do on the ppc app, can this just be turned into a system tray icon, as we dont really need to see it and some options could be configured there. could it then also close itself when disconnected? after all you only have to open the pc app to connect in again.
10/10 on the concept here tho, very small, very simple, and it kinda works
Will save so much time when im already at a pc that i sync with, ie home machine and work, i have partnerships with both.
I love it!!

Is it possible to make a version that is embedded into Outlook as an extension/addon ?

vista
B***** I thought I had solved the Vista issues. I'll try it later to see what I get. If you email me the errors and any screen dumps it may be uselful
The Pocket pc application will eventually be hidden. I keep it visible at the moment to make sure it's working and to keep an eye on it. If you minimize it it should carry on working.
What xda are you running it on?
Pete

Pete,
I take it that your tool is device independent? If yes I would be happy to test it on a Hermes/Tytn running WM6. Desktop is XP/SP2.
Let me know.
Cheers
WB

Hi
or the last two questions:
Yes I hope to create a pluin for outlook and live.
I have tested it on an xda exec and orbit and my colleagues on other devices.
It's supposed to work on anything but that's what bill gates says.
If you have specific problems let me know.
Pete

Thanks - Outlook extension would be awesome =)
Goodjob and goodluck w/ the updates, will be looking for them!

When i start the desktop-app (XPSP2, Non-Admin), on my phone (Artemis / WM6) your app is starting, but after a few
seconds i get an error. Installed in main memory and softreset already done twice.
i know, this is alpha, so i think this is a good information for you ?
Anyway, this app seems to get a great tool...looking forward to the final release.
Great work, cheers

Pete,
Re te ability to send SMS to multiple contacts, it would be good if the tool could:
- Have the ability to send an sms to multiple contacts by putting ticks agains the names to be included on the sms distribution list, taken off the full list of contacts. What I mean by this is that you would select the names you want to send a message to off a list drawn directly from Contacts by simply putting a tick against selected names.
- Do the same but be able to select a preset distribution list (so I guess the tool needs tha ability for one to be able to create multiple distribution lists and store them for later use).
- Work the other way round, with the ability to send mutiple, differeing sms to a single contact (hope this is not too challenging, from a development standpoint)
- Text sent using this tool must be stored within the Sent box (I have used other tools that don't do this and its a real pain trying to remember what text you sent and to whom).
- Have the ability to move/refile texts into different folders.
if I think of any more I will let you know.
Cheers

RIM Blackberry Functionality + on an XDA

Hi
If anybody is interested in having RIM Blackberry + loads more functionality on an XDA, please take a look at - [http://www.a2000d.com/Duality_Always-On_Mail.htm] This is a server based product & suitable for 10 or more users.
Cheers
John[/url]
Wow, that's a lot of complexity to do something that's essentially already built into the device.
Hi, I think you may have missed the point somewhere along the line, sorry if I didn't make things clearer. This is full GPRS PUSH email which the XDA, in it's native form, isn't capable of.
Hope this helps.
No real difference. It keeps the GPRS connection open, just like keeping it open and having your mail software check for mail every five minutes. No effective difference, unless your e-mail is so important that you can't wait five minutes. But then you could set it to check once a minute.
It's not a true push in the sense that the server can't initiate the inbound connection.
Something pretty similar and cheap could be set up quite easily. The basic problem is that the XDA can't hold a GPRS connection permanently. You don't see the advertising bunf about 'always on connections' any more.
You could get blackberry-like functionality with two simple apps: one that runs on your exchange server that gets an SMS gateway to send you an SMS in a particular format when you have mail that hasn't been retrieved for a few minutes. And one that sits on the XDA checking incoming SMSs and when the 'check your mail' message comes in, starts attempting to start a GPRS connection and poll your server.
I agree with Andy. In fact I just noticed that T-Mobile are offering this very capability to all e-mail subscribers right now. The PPC client has to have an additional option ('my alerts') that has the specific functionality aka: read the 'hidden' SMS message and go and retrieve the mail.
Only problem seems to be that this additional option in the WM2003 e-mail client is not available as a separate download, but built into the ROM image. Seems that the only device that has it built in right now is the new HP PPC phone. I enabled this service on my t-mobile account and I receive the special SMS message fine, but my XDA e-mail client is not smart enough to recognize the special SMS message and then go an pull the mail down. I still have to do it manually. Still we are getting close to 'psydo push' e-mail I guess!! Does anyone know of an e-mail client for the PPC that has this functionality built in to it???
Look ay iAnywhere's Pylon Anywhere solution, it is better.
Only US $634 for five users (includes server back-end and client software), runs of Exchange or Notes. As for clients, it provides support for a broad range of handheld devices, including Palm OS, Microsoft Pocket PC and Smartphone, Symbian OS, SyncML, and WAP-based devices. Even supports RIM devices.
Communication is fully encrypted!

It provides three connection types; ReadySync, network push and SMS push - of course you can manually sync as well.
Most of the providers (mobile) use some sort of SMS push to triggger your device to sync to get new mail. This solution supports that, if you want it. The network push is real-time, if something triggers the monitoring server it immediately has your device sync that information type. Pylon Anywhere can monitor and sync Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Calendar, Contacts, Notes. From both the client and server sides.
There are a ton more features that are incredible, like killing (hard reset) a device remotely if stolen/lost. I will have a review up by the end of the week, will post here (if I can).
Thanks Nighthawk. Looks pretty interesting and quite a bit cheaper than the Intellisync product I have been looking at.
I have downloaded the documentation and am thinking about doing the 30 day trial, but I am a bit confused about the various hardware requirements. All I use right now is a WIN XP laptop with MS Outlook for mail. My mail is POP 3 from BellSouth and I have a DSL connection to the Bellsouth account via a dynamic IP address.
It looks like that to install the PylonAnywhere server, I am going to need MS Exchange, a static IP address and my own domain..... Am I reading that right, or can I simpy install the PylonAnywhere server software on my laptop and point it to the BellSouth POP 3 account for my mail? Any idea?
Many Thanks!
CB
Yep, this is a server based system. Connects to your exisiting Exchange or Notes mail server(s).
You sound like your just connecting to your own desktop, hmmm.
You might want to look at Smartner's Duality Professional edition or Internet Edition.
Go here: http://www.smartner.com/products/professional.html
These two are based on a single user concept vs. enterprise.
Hope that helps, let me know how things go.
Yes, I came across the Smartner product in my sesrches too. Does not appear to be available in the USA form some reason... In fact the licencing agreement actually precludes you from installing it if you live in the USA. Must have some kind of licencing problems I guess.
...?
I saw that while looking at their web site, kinda concerned me :?:
One could only speculate as to why, since not listed anywhere.
I think you can still DL the trial vesion off their site thoguh. If not, check out Handango, they have two versions listed (one a monthly contract).
Hi Nighthawk.
Yes, I did manage to download the trial, but it seems to be the 'enterprise' version, with functionality and architecture very similar to Intellisync and Pylon. I did not see a trial for any of the basic connectivity versions... I think I will call Smartner on Monday and see what the deal is with the licensing. I suspect it may be some kind of patent issue with one of the other providers... I'll let you know what I find out.
To download the Enterprise trial I had to request it via an e-mail, awaiting responce.
The Handango version is the Professional version, you can DL a trial version (doing it now).
Definately let me know what you find out from them, thanks.
Hey..
Smartner Duality is quite a good package for RIM like functionality. I bought the professional version a couple of months ago. It was easy to install etc. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it only does e-mail. It doesn't sync your calendar/todo. Their Enterprise edition is the only one that will do calendar/todo. Other than that it works great.
I'm definately thinking about trying Pylon Anywhere after reading this thread 'cause I want calendar/todo syncing... And quite cheaper that Duality Enterprise's smallest license.
Thanks Nighthawk. I think the professional was the version I downloaded from Handango. It looked like it still required an exchange server, but I stopped when the licence agreement said 'NO' to installing in USA... I'll let you know what they say... In the mean time, do you know of any 3rd party e-mail apps for PPC that are more reliable for checking the POP 3 server? The Pocket Outlook app time interval ba ed checking seems very intermittant and unreliable.
am-imate,
If you have any questions about Pylon Anywhere just let me know, more than happy to help. The server install is pretty easy, you will need Outlook 2000 w/SP2 (only) and java installed for the machines (server) browser.

Well Nighthawk, I have a question on all this, a kind of « question asked by a dummy » for I know little but not enough to make my way through all the material posted here.
I would like to create a Blackberry like function on my XDA. I’ve looked at this post and got some part of it very clear. The rest remain quite unclear.
My company uses MS exchange server in the office and I have a PC with Outlook on XP on my PC. My company already uses blackberry solution which I do not have but would like to uses my XDA instead to avoid duplication of hardware.
If my understanding is correct,
1. I need to install Pylon Anywhere (or some other application) on my XDA to collect my new mail.
2. I need to liaise with my Mail server administrator to have the server send my XDA a special SMS to silently trigger the synchronization process.
3. I will use on my XDA ActiveSync Inbox to read my mail on my XDA.
Now, this seems to be too simple. Did I put all the pieces in the right place?
Email Push
I'm using the Mnotes program on my i-mate for Lotus Notes wireless push. It works well, the push works flawlessly and doesn't require installation on the server-just my desktop which acts like a server for my handheld. I also have it working through our firewall using a Movian VPN(v4.0). All of this works through my gprs connect.
The only downside is that an incoming or outgoing call interrupts the gprs and the VPN disconnects and must be manually re-connected. on i-Mate

Pylon Anywhere requires a server back-end, meaning you must install a Pylon Anywhere server into your network. This server connects to your companies Exchange/Notes server. It then communicates with the Pylon Anywhere client software on your device, after you have it installed by the server.

[APP]SendReceiveAll v.1 - Synchronize all email accounts in one click

Hey Fellows,
SendReceiveAll is just a small program that i created for my own use. In default Windows Mobile client, if you have multiple email accounts and they are set to manual download, like it is with me, While checking mail you need to go to each account and click send and receive. This is a bit tedious.
SO this program, which is a small, no-gui, .net cf app does so. It calls send and receive for all outlook email accounts. This way you can tap it once and then wait for your emails to finish loading at their own pace.
Its a very simple start and i haven't done anything profound with it. Its just an idea that clicked me.
Suggestions and Ideas are welcome from all of you
Thanks!
UPDATE : Here is the link to cab file for this utility. I haven't tested it so cant say about how reliable it is. Thanks to post&telecommunications to make and post it
SendRecieveAll v.1 Cab File
PS: It seems that this doesn't works if you have multiple IMAP accounts. The problem I think happens because IMAP accounts cannot be updated in "Background, Asynchronously". So If thats the case with you, I am sorry, I don't have any solutions right now. I will see if anything can be done about it
Thanks. Works like a charm
Glad to know that you found it useful
Yeah, I've found it a bit tricky to check all my accounts.
For further development, is it possible that you can implement a progressbar that shows, when an account is ready and maybe a dialog that shows how many emails are downloaded per account?
Yeah, I was also having these things in my mind right at the time of developing this version and i am working on these. Actually the method i use to call the sync facility of messaging application is not synchronous , ie. my app doesnt get to know when did the messaging app finished. It gets control back immediately. So i'll have to find a better way to do that. Thanks for the suggestion
Manilla sync data
Thanks for the progy! It would be nice to have this integrate with the Manila "Sync Data" button under settings, Currently this only works for syncing Activesync, but the description does say "and Internet data"
Is any software for Send only?
Is any application for Pocket Outlook, when I want only Send (not Send and Receive)?
Nice application - some suggestions
Great little application! I’ve been wanting something like this for ages – I didn’t want to set my mail accounts to send and receive every 10 or 30 minutes, I wanted them to sync when I picked up the phone and pressed a button – now I can do it without going to my gmail, yahoo, hotmail and Exchange Server pages separately!
As others have pointed out – having something that said mail account 1 of 4 synchronising would be good for progress – at the moment I don’t know whether I’ve got no emails or it hasn’t worked correctly.
If you are going to end up adding options to this, then auto disconnecting the data connection when all mail boxes are synchronised would save me another button press!
Making it work directly from send/receive in Manila is a great suggestion from ‘anothersmith’ – in the mean time I can’t get it to assign to the programs tab in Manila or via Hbutton – it doesn’t pick it up…..?
Good work.
Splelling errror!!
The reason I'm struggling to get the Hbutton to assign via the registry is that the .exe file is spelt incorrectly!
You've got it as SendRecieveAll.exe
Hbutton thread that shows registy values if anyone wants it for now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306794&page=2
Usefull application...thanks lot..
By the way ...i got problem coz im use diferent network (3g ,home and wifi)..i should sett the smtp manually before clickthis
great effort
Hi Friends,
Sorry for delay in response i was out of town Thanks for all the great responses. So i guess these are the changes i should try to implement :
1. Visual Notification of the progress and optional data disconnection at the end.
2. Integration with Manilla Sync.
3. Option to send only.
@brandall: If you add a sound to "New Email" notification in Start>Settings>Sounds and Notifications applet, you will recieve a standard notification from the messaging app about the newly recieved emails automatically. I get it on my phone.
@all: Since i only have a HTC Gene at my disposal, i cannot experiment with TouchFlo 3D features. I guess you people are talking about the sync button on tf3d, right? So can anybody tell me the integration procedure for touchflo 3d, i mean the registry keys and all.
I have 3 IMAP accounts, but it only sends/receive the last one
By the way, your app is a great idea!
I have exactly the same. 6 IMAP and it sends / receives only the last one.
Idea is great. Please correct the problem.
Oh, i didn't test it on imap, and i just returned from a long tour. I will look into it asap.
I think that the solution is to make the application aware of the synchronization status on outlook, which apparently can't send and receive from different IMAP accounts at the same time..
But it's only a personal hypothesis since I don't have the foggiest idea of how to program.
it will be greate to make gui with send/recive all... sen all ... recive alll
Hi Great app
one question, can run background? or hiden whith screen off?
i use another app to trigger the send/recieve mail by sms.
thanks
Hey Krazy - any update on this?
The original version I have still gets used every day for me!
great work however I removed .net due to memory restrictions on my xv6700 is there anyway to get the source so we can try to get this recompiled in c that way all devices could use your wonderful program. thank u again for listening
thank you for this wonderful piece of work.

Hopefully people will find it useful, please leave feedback to help improve.
To help spread booksync please become a fan.
I you are feeling really generous please consider donating by clicking here
Thanks
Mike.
Thanks for making such a great app.
So far, I haven't been able to get the Birthday Sync to work. Would it matter if my friends have their birthdays hidden?
Hi, thanks for your support.
Facebook just return the birthday as a string made up of all the parts the friend has allowed access to. I attempt to parse that and only update if a full date can be found.
So sorry if people are hiding their year of birth they wont update.
Mike
Does what it says on the tin.
Very nice, and very useful. Thank you for making this available.
This looks very very good -- and I've tried every "Facebook to Outlook or Windows Mobile" app out there.
Really looking forward to:
* Higher resolution contact photo's
* Ability to select which of the matched contacts get sync'ed (so "matched" doesn't equal "sync'ed")
* Option to not sync pictures (if you just want to sync birthdays, for instance): I have a number of friends whose Facebook profile pictures aren't as nice as the contact pictures I've given them...
If you find the time:
* More things to sync, like home address, work, Facebook groups to Outlook categories... (if possible)
* Individual sync settings for each contact that are stored for future sync'ing so it can really be used as an automated process.

This looks very very good -- and I've tried every "Facebook to Outlook or Windows Mobile" app out there.
Really looking forward to:
* Higher resolution contact photo's
These are just to inspire you, it's not a list of demands!

The pictures being sync'd are the highest quality pics that can be sync'd. Facebook gives you a few options to select from (square, small, big, normal), from feed back from mainly htc users I select the biggest picture possible to sync with. This is dependent on the image that the friend uploads of course.
Your other point about selecting which contacts to sync has been mentioned before. I plan to redesign the UI to include this. I'm an asp.net/win forms developer who originally wrote booksync for myself and decided to release it then it took on a mind of its own from feedback etc.
The redesign of the UI may take a bit of time as I learn so will be included in future release.
I will investigate how much can be sync'd.
Would really love for phone number and email address but these are not available.
Thanks for your feedback its just what I was after
Nice work. Thanks!
Wow. Ill give it a roll. Looking forward to the update you mention with choosing which pictures
Outlook Birthdays (if not given the year can be done by adding the "current year" but that should also be optional.
I have tried it and loving it.
I only have to fix the file as after I am done syncing.
It would also be nice to import facebook contacts as well even if it is just a link to their web adress such as www.facebook.com/friend that way the contacts can be integrated into PIE as well.
any chance you also use myspace?
I have been switching over, but some of my friends have not. In fact, I have a lot more friends on myspace than on FaceBook.
thanks for sharing this great app.
Thanks.
Will look at working create contacts into a future release.
As for myspace I will have to do some investigating around their api (if they have one) I dont use myspace so not played around with it.
i installed it but uninstalled it on my htc touch pro...it worked once for me then it kept on crashing. i never got it to work since the first sync..not sure why...

i got the same problem it crashes right after it tries to login
I got a minor problem of the login page not really fitting on my QVGA screen and no scroll bars to adjust. the size of the fonts are good, but I have to use the tab key to select the password and logn button. also have to fix file as in my contacts.
Login page needs the most work.

yea it says some type of program error and crashes...other then that it worked nicely on the first try....but until this is fixed i will wait again...great work on it tho..i just wished that it synced everything that the fonebook app does which works similar
Having some issues as it looks like everything is fine but it just sits with the "Syncing..." message on screen but does nothing, even after half an hour.
I was hoping to remove the link to the first contact in case it's just his contact causing the issue but I can't see a way. I ven uninstalled but it's retained the link. Where are the settings stored so I can start from fresh?
Hi,
The picture quality is actually pretty ok. Much better than what you get when adding pictures in (desktop) Outlook.
Thanks for considering my suggestions. The option to select which of the matched contacts are sync'ed will be a great enhancement, I hope you get it done.
What would also make me happy is the option not to sync pictures, and being able to choose this for each contact individually... some of my friends have really ugly profile pics.
Creating new contacts from unmatched Facebook friends, as someone suggested, is a really good idea as well. Somehow your program feels really promising. I think that's why a lot of people are rooting for you to make it into a full-fledged Facebook-to-Contacts sync solution (not just pictures). Too bad Facebook doesn't make phone numbers and e-mail adresses available, but well, that's how it is.

One more thing... From time to time, Booksync stops working: it starts up, tries to log in, then throws an error each time.
I noticed that by removing the <SessionKey> line from the settings file, I could get the program working again.

Where is the BookSync Settings file
It's under 'Program Files/BookSync' and is called 'settings.bss'. Removing the entire settings file would work too, but then you'd have to re-match all you contacts. If you only delete that single line in a simple text editor, you can keep the rest of your settings.
Hope it works for you too.

Google Voice Easy SMS - Send & Auto-Receive SMS free via Google Voice [v2.0, 5/21/10]

Google Voice Easy SMS - Send & Auto-Receive SMS free via Google Voice [v2.0, 5/21/10]
Important Announcement:
Hey everyone, thanks for the support over the last year. This app was a great learning experience for me, I enjoyed the challenges it presented and learned a lot in the process.
I've now moved on to and Android device (and if you are able, I encourage you to do the same!). Thus, my development and support are both officially finished. This application is wholly open-source, and if anyone out there wants to pick up where I left off, please do (under the conditions that the app remains open-source and you retain my name as an author).
Thanks
===========================
After 5 long months of working on it, Google Voice Easy SMS 2.0 is now released to the public, for free, like always! Send and automatically receive Google Voice SMS right on your phone over your data plan!
I've not been able to find a free application for Windows Mobile that allows easy text messaging (SMS) via your Google Voice account. I wanted something easy to use that also pulls from the phone's contacts list. So since I couldn't locate an app that suites these needs, I created one. After all, I’m a broke college student and I want something to give me free outgoing messages. Speaking of being broke, if you like what you see, consider donating via PayPal. After all, I'm probably saving you a good deal of money on a SMS package from your provider! You can do it right from this page on my website:
http://www.mattslifebytes.com/donate
Anything at all would be greatly appreciated!
Website & Download Location: http://www.mattslifebytes.com/?cat=7 OR http://tinyurl.com/googVSMS
Please don't mirror the installation file, just link to the above URL. That way current versions get distributed. Thanks!
Important Installation Note:
Once you have downloaded and installed Easy SMS, you'll need
to enter your Google Account information by going to 'Menu' -> 'Settings' -> 'Google Account Settings'. Fill in the info, then do 'Menu' -> 'Check for Messages'.
New In Version 2.0
Pretty much everything is new!
Easy SMS is now a full suite application. You can both send and receive Google Voice SMS through it for FREE.
All bugs with the old 1.x series have been fixed.

Features:
It's free. Who doesn't like free stuff?
Sends messages via the data connection, meaning your outgoing SMS costs you nothing
Interfaces with your phone's contacts list
Connects directly to Google via SSL to send your message, no man-in-the-middle servers that could potentially harvest your Google Account password
Signature support
Send to multiple recipients at once
Easy SMS is completely open-source! Want to have a look? Just click through to my website for the download.
Requirements
Windows Mobile based device; software has been tested on versions 6, 6.1, and 6.5, but the program may work with other versions.
.NET Compact Framework 3.5
A Google Voice account
Cellular data plan or WiFi connectivity
If your cellular data plan charges by the kilobyte, be sure to keep track of your usage; this program uses very little bandwidth, but don't try to blame data charges on me
You must abide by the Google Voice terms of service when using this program
Google has a bad habit of changing the way stuff works without letting people know. If you find that this program suddenly stops working, it could be because Google changed a setting and broke the way this program works. Check the blog site for info on known issues and patch releases. I'll try to post here with that stuff too.
Want to make calls easily via Google Voice from your Windows Mobile phone? Try iDialer and iContact, visit http://supware.net for those amazing programs.
I've tried to be very thorough in testing, but you never know. Find something odd? Tell me how to reproduce the error and I'll try to take care of it. Toss me an e-mail.

Excellent job!
This is exactly what I've been looking for since I found out google incoming sms could be routed to an email address. Thanks so much!

Google voice only sends in the USA and accounts are only available to people in the USA so no it's not going to work outside USA.
I like small URLs This is the same as above, just easier to type in
http://tinyurl.com/googVSMS
The app works BEAUTIFULLY BTW
Combining this with the "Swype" keyboard, SMS is so much better now

If Google Voice goes international, I'll try my best to keep it compatible.
I'm currently in the UK (live in Chicago), is there any reason this wouldn't work? I just get a communication error. I thought it woudl just use the data connection?

Which communication error do you get: bad Google Account username or password, unable to get value of '_rnr_se' key, or unable to send message(s)?
The program tries to open a few URL connections via the OS networking components, and if you have a data connection it really should be working. My only thought is perhaps Google's methods that I am using aren't accessible from outside the USA or something. If that turns out to be the case, I can program a workaround by bouncing the request through my own web server first, that way it originates from a USA IP address.
Can someone send me an invite for google voice please? PM me please
This app looks really cool. Would be great for me because I have a 300 text/month limit.
Thanks for the app. I just want to clarify, this app only send SMS via google voice and incoming text is still received as a regular text, is that correct?
Thanks.

You'd have to find out from the Google Voice support stuff, this program only passes the info from Google and they handle the rest.
thank you so much for this! will test and post my results

Certainly none taken, either. But for now it would still help if you could post what type of communication error you are getting though, that's going to be the only way I even can begin to understand the problem :-/
i keep getting the "communication error: unable to send message. try closing the program and re-opening. also be sure this version of Easy SMS is up to date, google might have changed something on their end."
what am i doing wrong?

That error means that the program was able to log you into your Google account and get your authorization key, but when it tries to send the message Google didn't allow the connection.
Can you browse to https://www.google.com/voice/sms/send/ on your mobile device? You should get "Forbidden Error 403". Also where is your physical location currently, and who is your carrier? Thanks.

Also are you on 3G or WiFi connection? Are you roaming? And finally (lol) if I create a debug version would you be willing to run it and let me know how it works out for you?

Self hosted SMS synchronization/sending server?

Hi all,
There are a lot of apps out there like MightyText, AirDroid, or DesktopSMS that allow you to send SMS messages from your PC. The problem with these services is that all the TOSs show that messages could be saved on their server. They also give pretty universal permission control to the application. While I'm sure these apps are "safe," I'm looking for a self-hosted solution, where I can host a website that my SMS/MMS content is synchronized to, and allows me to send SMS/MMS from the web browser (or companion app).
Is there something out there that does this? If not, I'm going to look into developing it myself.
Thanks!
Platform
I'm a developer and I had to create something for one project of mine and in time it became a whole project by himself.
I've created a self-hosted SMS marketing platform that it's integrated with more than 150 SMS providers you can bring your own device if you require it.
Have a look at selfhostedsms.com
