Navigon MN6 & WM6 - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 ROM Development

I've been trying MN6 on WM5 and WM6 and I've done several cronos (boot time) with and without overclock, the results are:
MN6 on WM5: 45 secs
MN6 on WM6 without overclock: 1:30 secs (min.)
MN6 on WM with 244mhz overclock: 1:23 (min)
Free mem on WM5: around 24mb
Free mem on Wm6: around 21-22mb
Why this difference between these times? why on WM6 MN6 get the double of time to boot?
My rom is Prophet Touch 7

it suppose to be faster in WM6 as microsoft release notes
like in PC, when jumping from Windows me to XP to vista, the PC will be slower.
the programs run slower cause the windows has more functions in the core, I'm sure it has more functions, so if the program may need some times to load the system files and run into memory,
I think the program now searchs in more memory (system files loaded in momery and ROM)
if you try 6 mb pp it will release more program memory but it will be slower to read the ROM, but 4.5 mb pp size is enough, so 6mb is great

Ok, I can understand, but: why the double!! hehehe it's too much difference. I've done the try with 12mb and with 6mb of pagepool (zei v2 and touch 7) with similar results...

Windows Mobile 2005 for XDAII and 2.20.07

is there any good version of WM 2005? i mean it will not only detect 30MB ram but 125MB ram....... can give me the link? what is the difference between the WM 2003se 2.20.00 and 2.20.07??
Ive said this before, please read it..
WM2005 doesnt detect 30 or 32meg ram, it detects all 128meg of it. It just doesnt use it. at all. Not a bit. Nothing. Nadda.
The missing ram is not a bug, its not a problem its a DESIGN FEATURE of wm2005.
WM2005 uses ENTIRELY FLASH. this is to prevent data loss in the event of battery failure. New wm2005 devices will have much larger flash storage so this isnt going to be a problem.
The fact that the memory program shows the flash being used for running program memory as well as storage says that wm2005 DOES NOT use ram for programs at all. I expect ms will drop ram from the future spec for devices in order to lower chip count and simplify designs.
The 32meg OS memory holds the windows ROM, its write protected. no way to edit it live.
the 32meg DiskOnChip holds the Storage and Extrom, these are partitione d in some way to 2 roughly 16meg sections.
WM uses the storage partition for storage, Duh. It maps it over the windows directory and all file changes and additions are put in there.
the ExtRom directory is used for running program memory. It kills the extrom.
Remember that due to the way MS cant count, differences in the way they measure Bytes, kilibytes etc (1000 or 1024 people?) and filesystem overhead the numbers wont add up exactly at the end. But trust me, unless anyone can PROVE me wrong, this is what happens.
It may be possible to make use of the ram as a storage disk, but a custom ramdisk program would have to be written.
??
oh ya hw about WM 2003 SE version 2.20.07? is it translated version? is the fonts like very rough?? the WM 2005 safe to use?

Two questions about Windows Mobile 6 on the prophets

hello,
i have two questions about theses roms here:
1. some roms have the 3d cube from the HTC touch enabled. is this cube loaded into the program memory (ram) all the time or is it only loaded from the rom during the first usage? i don't use it and i don't know if i waste some ram or not.
btw: is it possible to create some .cab files for touchflo and this 3d cube? with that no extra touch roms would be needed and everyone could install them on his neutral windows mobile 6 rom, which flashed on this device.
2. in the past we could unlock the extended rom and use it as a normal storage memory. is there any way in windows mobile 6 to use it like that?

Yes to all questions
1. The cube is loaded one into the memory and stays there
It's possible to make cab files but that will slow donw to os
2. yes you can open the extrom and use it as storrage
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:2
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\MSFlash]
"Folder"="Flash Disk"
"MountAsROM"=dword:1
"MountHidden"=dword:0
"Name"="FLASH Disk Block Device"
"PartitionDriver"="mspart.dll"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\MSFlash\FATFS]
"MountAsROM"=dword:0
"MountHidden"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:0
that should open the ext rom
thank you gullum for your reply.
about the cab files: if these additions are loaded into the ram during the boot, whould it still slow down the device on normal running? afaik the rom is as fast as the normal storage memory.

I'm not shure about that but when these extra apps cab around they were all cab files before we got them coock into the roms and our phones got slowed down to their knees
ok.
and about the extedend rom: it becomes visible, but i can't write anything on it

Slow folder browsing

Hello to all! (this is my first post on this forum )
I own a Nike100 for about a week now, played around with it and flashed a few ROM's (I must say I am really pleased Tom's latest ROM, thank you Tom!).
In general I am very pleased with this device. There is just one thing that really makes me wonder: why is the file system performance on the Nike so mediocre? I notice this when listing folder contents using a file explorer like Resco or Total Commander.
It takes about 6 seconds to list de \windows folder while on my device. My HTC S710/Vox smartphone used to be slow too, but with the WM6 SP edition ROM and the latest XIP (ROM core) updates it shows the contents of the windows folder in a split of a second. Ofcourse the Vox smartphone has a much slower CPU than the Nike. So why is the Nike so much slower in this respect?
Well, I suppose nobody knows / has the same experience / is interested?

i guess it´s default... at least it´s as slow as you describe for me too. i think you can´t compare with the vox... maybe it just has i smaller windows folder?
Well yes, I was thinking about that too. But the Vox has 1330 files and folders in de windows folder, and the Nike has 2716, that's twice as much. So for me that does not explain why it is <0.5 secs for the Vox vs 6 secs for the Niki.
By the way, it is the same when the explorer in ActiveSync... the Nike is much, much slower than the Vox. With the Niki, when opening the windows folder in ActiveSync, even the PC has a hard time keeping track of the mousecursor...
I think it's weird, especially considering the Niki's CPU power.
I suppose it could be a lot faster with the right kernel(?)

nope. but with a different fs
My phone need 1-2sec to open windows folder (Resco explorer, system files hiden and about 5-8 sec to all files)
I set all caches for maximum, and it works much faster than stock

Exactly: I am talking over 6 seconds with system/hidden files shown in Resco Explorer or Total Commander.
But the new Clean Black ROM that I use now folder browsing seems to be a slightly faster than Tom's 2.1.3 ROM that I used before:
Nike with Tom's Niki Project v2.31 ROM 6.5 seconds, 2716 files
Nike with Clean Black ROM 1378 files 2.5 seconds
Vox (for comparison) < 0.5 seconds, 1330 files
Another thing: Activesync responds well again using Clean Black ROM (with Tom's ROM opening the windows folder in ActiveSync gave my PC a very hard time: 100% CPU, very slow mouse response).

you can try to change the radio version.
after change to Nike Radio 1.58.21.23S, my touch dual seems more responsive that before.

Ok thanks! Maybe I'll try that one. No adverse effects on battery usage or reception? I thought the 1.58.21.23S modded ROM was best at that.

installing apps on storage card fails....

guys...im installing apps on storage card bt wen it gets installed it seems 2 occupy space in storage space of fone rather dan d mem card......ny suggestions......
It doesn't happens with all apps. Sometimes cabs have paths hard coded into them so they install in phone memory regardless what you choose. Some apps like opera installs some files on phone mem and some on card. Plus even if the cab installs on card, its uninstaller will always be in the \Windows\Apps folder.
bt opera takes abt arnd 8 mb mem......n i've seen in detail dat most of d apps install dere major part in phone mem.......so in dis way it leaves me wid jst arnd 4-5 mb mem n dat make f-touch flow really slow......n d worst part is dat it den starts takin arnd more dan 2 mins 2 access d windows folder........do suggest sm solution krazy.......thanx in advance......
Opera takes 8 MB if you install the phone memory version of it. There are also SD card versions available which takes around 3 MB in phone mem and rest on card.
This is not true that most software install their major part in phone mem. It depends upon what software you use. In my case, i install about 36 different utilities and software on my phone with my ROMs and i still get around 24 MB of free memory. My ROMs mostly have 35-40 MB of phone mem. So that means only 12-15 MB of phone mem is consumed for so many apps, plus my 3 email accounts, 268 contacts, 70+ calender entries, around 8-10 tasks and about 30-40 smss. so you see, its not much. In my knowledge most of the apps can be fully installed on storage card, only some like the Manilla2D plugin or other todays plugins and system utilities are REQUIRED to install in phone mem.
So you can understand that this is specific to the apps you use. Tell me a complete list of what apps you use and on which ROM (if its not correct in your siggy) and i'll try to solve your problem.
Windows folder browsing, although slows down as number of files increase, but there is a bug in the windows mobile version that i have used in BlackMetal ROM. Its present in all versions of Windows Mobile that have build numbers less than the one in Pro User's ROM. The bug is that if you or some program copies files into windows folder and it replaces a file that is in the ROM already (it cant overwrite it but it can be placed overriding the ROM version with the phone memory version) the windows folder access slows down. And this wont improve even if you remove the offending files. The only way to remedy such situation is to defrag the phone memory by Backing up using a tool like SKTools or SPB Backup, hard resetting your phone and then restore the backup. Sorry but you have to use either the Vanilla Manilla or Prousers rom to get out of this particular situation. You can install the black metal theme on VanillaManila also
well........i jst upgraded to Vanila manila ultimate version 6.5........bt prob is same as in blackmetal......im nt using dat many apps.......following is d list of apps i use:
Opera 9.5
Youtube app
tcmp player
transformer m2d theme
S2p player
resco file explorer and reg editor
pocket rar
psshut xp
Omap clock consule
M2DC
Asphalt 3 3D
Genesis Emulator
Pocket Nester
and now im left wid jst 11 mb mem in storage and 14 mb mem in program.....
.....do help me out krazy.......u rock man.........its all ur effort bcoz of which im usin GENE else i was planing 4 d VIVA jst 4 d manila 2d interface.........thanx in advance bro.......
e1 d asphalt 3 is occupying whole of d space in phone mem......
........nw im using ur prouser v2........help me out yaar.......feels very irritating 2 c dese in phone mem......
ny suggestions krazy......????
Nothing much can be done buddy, its the very nature of the apps you are using.
If they cant run from storage card, what can we do about it. As for the RAM, open task manager advance and on the Process tab, try to look for any process that is from one of these programs. Sometimes, even after closing, they run in background.
Opera takes 9 MB itself, the biggest reason why i dont use it. Use opera mini if you only do surfing as it is super fast and only 250 KB in size. You can download stuff with it also plus it can open desktop sites. The only thing it cant do is playing flash contents, but IE 6 in pro users rom can do that. So you dont really need Opera 9.5. And Opera 6.5 runs fine from storage card, if opera is something you cant live without.
Regarding asphalt 3 and genesis and nester, these are emulators man, what do you expect. They will take memory, you cant do anything.even if you buy a viva, you'll run into problems (if you really call them problems ) eventually with these.
thanx buddy...........

Sorry, I can't. I've applied a lot of changes in settings and installed a couple of softwares into my device already...
But it is MWG-like. It can be regarded as an official update from MWG.
You're really the first one!
About the free RAM at startup... I can get over than 24,000 KB at the moment(I had installed a lot softwares). I didn't apply any changes to the cache of file system, which means the cache size is still 2 MB as default.
It's as much as you can get in the latest official WM6 ROM, right?

Like Bajok! says :
HOW TO FLASH THE ROM:
1. You must have at least 70% battery.
2. Use mini-SD card and format it to FAT16 (use only 2GB capacity and below, don't use SDHC card!)
3. Copy AL1.DIO to card.
4. Insert card to memory slot of your device. Press and hold record button (beside the camera button) then push reset button with your stylus. Wait until BOOTLOADER mode appears saying "SD CARD DETECTED", release the record button.
5. Wait 'til it finishes until the O2 logo and splash screen appear. Follow the on screen steps. HAPPY FLASHING!!!
Thanks your ROM is very light, fast and battery usage is very good with this..
I surprised!! solved my problem for years on battery usage problems.
Just had to say thanks, sadly last week my old faithful HTC TYTN died, and i almost cried, and i had to get another PDA.
The one i got was an 02 Atom Life, however the stock rom wouldnt run some of the apps i use and depend apon, and couldnt do some basic stuff like send the USSD to get credit info (*100#), so i tried the official 6.1 update which still didnt run my app, or allow me access to my info, then i tried this Rom.
Everything goes again, (including USSD) ive tried your 6.5's but frankly I prefer this one alot much more, I just wanted you to know I appreciate your effort to the community.
The problem i have it they layout for the 6.5, do you have a 6.5 with the 6.1 Setup? If so i would gladly test it for you.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't understand your last question... I beg your pardon?
Sorry, ill phrase it better,
with your WM6.5 roms i noticed they didnt have the standard start menu, like the WM5.0 / WM6.1, it instead your WM 6.5 has the touchflo type menu.
Is it possible to make a 6.5 rom without the touchflo ?
or can the touchflo be turned off so the old start menu works?

Yes... There're two ways that you could be able to use WM6.1-styled Start Menu, but both are not perfect neither:
1. Use the QuickMenu instead.
2. Recook a WM6.5 with a hexed shell32.exe file(by Sun_Dream in DFT) and other WM6.1 DPI and Lang *.dll files. I have just cooked one and that was under tweaked, but unfortunately my device broke again in the day before yesterday... So I'm afraid that you may have to cook it yourself.
My device is fixed now. I've got the thing you meant done, but themes of WM6.5 or later are not applicable for this ROM. The WM6.5 lockscreen and Titanium are not present as well...
So does anyone want to try that?
hi aa125690, been almost a year but this rom is fine!
I have a problem here =
1. when i flash the rom back to MWG original rom (.exe) through dsuu I can't find "wireless tab" under setting-connection-wifi.
2. same thing happen using original O2 wm5 or wm6 rom. no wireless tab inside.
I thought this was DSUU problem so I did =
3. using modified flash.dio as al1.dio from both original O2 rom (miniSD mode) resulting the same.
4. using modified flash.dio as al1.dio from original mwg rom (miniSD mode) resulting the same.
many hard-resets but they solve nothing. strange thing is = all rom from this xda-developer site (from you, bajok!, chrisch, etc, which are all minisd mode) are free from this problem. do you have any idea?
I just wanted to feel the "old feeling" when the atomlife was still on wm5 just like old time.
