Just bought a 7500 and was going to register with htc for wm6 - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

I was just wondering why HTC wants to know your mobile number when you register your phone to get wm6?

just register your Athena on HTC website.....

Yea register then post the ROM!

Not so fast...
FYI, I have a 7500 and I at first used the Dopod WM6 ROM. After the offical HTC ROM came out I installed it and I was terribly disappointed. It's an older build of ther OS, older version of Office, and the device ID had changed so TomTom wanted me to re-activate it. I couldn't since I had just activated it on the old ROM.
My advice: stay away from the HTC WM6 ROM and go with atl least the Dopod ROM, or even better, the Black Touch ROM. Be sure to CID unlock the phone first.

My device is originally Ameo which I flashed to HTC. Flashing the Dopod ROM also changed my device ID in TomTom So it is not a matter of one being "better" than the other Stick with the ROM "family" you registered initially with TomTom. Or get another copy of TT!

P.S. If you use the Black Touch ROM, be sure to read the existing posts - all of them - for potential issues and fixes.

Dopod rom is stamped with 2.19 version number, HTC rom has 2.21 version number. At least by that it seems that HTC rom is newer.
Iuse HTC rom and do not have any complains. It is fast and stabile. Never got stackd since I've installed it. I use a lot of applications, have installed 4 voip apps, mapping soft, use internet sharing. All works without any problems. Am using real VGA 128 dpi.

The HTC WM6 ROM may have a later date and higher version number, but the build of the OS is older (look at the OS version and build number) and the version of the Office apps is older as well.
I have found that the Black Touch edition is considerably faster thatn the Dopod WM6 ROM, plus it ihas a lot of extras bundled into it that you would have to install on your own otherwise (and apps bundled into the ROM do not consume program memory).

Niki 200 winmo 6.1 help!

Hi all, i have a niki 200 (t-mobile mda plus). I have just security unlocked it and it has hard spl 1.15 on it.
First off i would like the latest edition of windows mobile on this phone but im struggling to find one thats compatible with the key configuration of the phone. Also will there be a built in radio compatible with the version of the rom update i download, or will i have to re-install t-mobiles orginal 1.58.16.27 radio.
Cheers all for any help given!
regards
thebarraster
P.S. I am looking for a un-branded, not full of t-mobiles crap rom lol
I just did mine yesterday, tis a T-Mobile Touch plus with 16 keys.
Followed the sticky on flashing the hardspl, but i went with 1.22.
The got a copy of the Offical HTC WM 6.1 update from one of the other threads and ran the rom updater on that.
Worked a treat, tis HTC branded now and everything works nicely. The auto-network configure is great, sets up all the T-Mobile stuff nicely and got push mail set up from my works exchange server along with gmail.
Boots a lot quicker and hopefully i'll be rid of the daily reboots i had to do due to the clock or weather graphics going blank.
Interesting!!!
Hi!
As a newbee to ROM updates etc, I likewaise have an MDA Touch Plus that is running wm6.0.
Could you suggest where I can get the relevant copy of the Offical HTC WM 6.1 update ?
Cheers

Vodafone HTC TP Radios (+some other stuff)

Ok, i suspect this has been asked a million times before.... Yeah i've been to raph wiki... Just want to clarify things, its too much info and i want to know if i get everything right. Please help me get my head around this if you can.
My phone:
Vodafone HTC Touch Pro (factory not SIM-locked)
CE OS build 19945.1.2.3
Rom version: 1.90.161.5 WWE
Date: 09/03/08
Radio: 1.02.25.19
Protocol: 52.33.25.17U
I have HardSPL'ed my phone successfully. If i want to flash another RAPHAEL radio i dont need to do anything else. "Security" unlock is only needed if non-raphael radios need to be flashed (such as diamond?)?
Do i replace current Vodafone rom (besides radio)? Is there a good reason to do so ? If so, which one and why ? Not interested in software overload, but prefer to have Touch Flo and as much speed as possible. I have read that t-mobile Vario4 roms are extremely bad, cant say this about Voda, but what do i know - i only owned HTC s710 (Orange SPV E650) for a year or 2. (flashed it to WM6.1 myself, came with 6.0)
How do i unload contacts, software, games off the s710 to my TP ?
So much questions. Please bear with me.
Thanks for your time.
To answer your rom question, the newest roms are version 5.05 instead of 1.90. I have an unbranded tp so I just installed the official 5.05 and no custom one. But if you're looking for speed you should check out energyrom 2.0 I guess. Your contacts can be easily ported from s710 to tp using outlook. Use activesync to sync your 710 contacts with outlook and then sync outlook with your tp. I've done the same with my old s620 and it's the only way I've found that works. There are programs in which you can backup you contacts (such as sktools) but from smartphone to ppc it doesn't seem to work.

Before I Upgrade ....

I just bought T-Mobile Ameo WM 5.0 over the ebay which was mentioned unlocked. I am using it with vodafone SIM. I am confused by reading about upgrades that it has to be unlopcked before it ca be upgraded. Does this SIM unlock is the 'unlock' required to upgrde or is it something different?
(1) How do I know that it is really unlocked, if it is different to SIM unlocking? As it is working with other than T-Mobile SIM proves it is unlocked? As different to other WM devices I have used, this is more like a PC booting up.
(2) What are the prime benefits of upgrading to WM6.0?
(3) I want to go for official upgrade (i.e. WM 6.0) than coocked ROMs as for now. Or should I jump to the latest (but coocked Wm 6.1 or WM 6.5) ROM? Do I loose any functionality in installing coocked ROM?
(4) And last, does upgrading to offical ROM (downloaded from links on the forum) will again Unlock it to T-Mobile? This may seem trivial, but I have a bit concern that as it is going to be offical upgrade, can it again lock to T-Mobile? If it does, than I will not be in a position to use it as phone unless I unlock again! This seems funny on my part, but better prevent than cure.
Thanks in advance
NO ONE AS YET? I gussed I would have received instant answers to very basic questions becaise I had just bought Ameo!

Its been a while since I did mine but will try and advise on what I can remember
1.SIM unlocking is for using other networks operators and sometimes confused with CID unlocking, I think. If your using a vodaphone sim then it is def sim unlocked but in order to get it to a safe point for upgrading ideally you need to install hardspl and cid unlock I think. There are many guides on here but you will have to search and read I'm afraid as most of us did this a while ago.
2/3.Each of the windows builds 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5 bring different things and increased functionality, 6.0 and 6.1 are worthwhile upgrades as they are both official releases, you may struggle to find a stock 6.1 for the ameo though. Again its been a long time since I used 6.1 on any of my devices, 6.5 is ok as long as you realise that its still in MS beta so you may find stuff that doesnt work or isnt perfect but it is the most up to date. Cooked roms gain or loose functionality dependant on the cook who made it and what they decided to include or remove.
4. I have never installed the stock t-mobile rom so cant tell you if it will re-lock the device but I wouldnt think so.
***Please for your own sake, read as much as you can in these forums to ensure you know what your going to do, also if you do decide to go for cooked roms make sure you use a rom suitable for your SPL****
Hope this helps

That's what I was suspecting, that SIM unlocking wasn't the unlocking required to upgrade it. Thanks for reconfirming this.
Now as there is offical WM 6.0 ROM for Ameo linked here, does that mean they (T-Mobile) have also referred their own upgrading procedure somewhere? For my Xperia X1, SE Updte utility takes care of official upgrade task, so something similar had existed sometime as there exists official T-Mobile 6.0 ROM, there must their official procedure too. I will definitely try to find it, but as yet someone had gone through it, please give some hints.
And as yet until I get a definite answer that upgrading it to offical WM 6.0 T-Mobile ROM will not lock (I mean SIM Lock) to T-Mobile again, I will prefer to defer although I am still looking to get enhanced performance, it has been with me for just a few day and I don't want to mess it up as I have slowly began to love it! Even it is like my desktop speakerphone at home / office and I have began to talk more conveniently and confortable on the desk or home. Yes, I am still not used to use it as normal small cell phone, but I hope I will gt used to it, although I find to see anything on screen during sulit days or in bright daylight.

Hi. welcome to the forum. I was new here six months ago. there is a lot of information here and you MUST take time to read and understand. not many will answer your basic questions. they is not being nasty, it is just the way it is. you must teach yourself. you will not find much (if any) information about official roms.
if you decide to try a cooked rom, Lakeman has produced a great tutorial which is stickied in this forum. It is the one I followed. here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429013
study this carefully, google anything you dont understand, dont do anything until you are sure you know what you are doing.
just to repeat what avengerpenguin said
MAKE SURE YOU USE A ROM TO SUIT YOUR SPL
good luck

to be able to flash cooked ROMs to your phone you need to hardSPL your device. HardSPl will OS unlock your device. to be able to use the best WM6.5 rom for your device you need to upgrade to SPL 3.5.
first thing you need to do:
find out what spl your device is currently using: hold down camera button (all the way down) + press the reset hole/button, keep holding down on the camera button but release the reset hole/button (keep holding on camera button until a multi colored screen comes up (then release camera button) look where it says (spl) tell us what is there.

It was 1.10 something and I upgraded to T-Mobile official WM6 ROM today without any issues and overall device is more fast and chunkier. Now it is 2.35 something.
I have however noticed two issues,
(1) HSDPA switch is enabled yet 'H' icon has gone so probably it is not connecting to HSDPA mode, I guess. I want the 'H' back.
(2) Windows Live is gone.
(3) Programs icons are noit alfabatically sorted but somehow lossely scattered.
I googled that Ameo doesn't require CID unlocked and it upgrades directly and it did via T-Mobile application which runs via USB cable.

HSDPA may be down to the age of the rom, if tmobile didnt have their HSDPA running when the rom was built may not be included in the icons etc
Windows live should be available through cab if you search or use a 3rd party app like palringo

Hi and welcome to the forum,
Now I have been using the Ameo for 2 years now, and must have flashed about every rom there is for it. So the other day I thought about going back to a stock WM6.0 T-mobile rom and try it for a few days to see how different it was to a cooked rom. Well it lasted 2 hours and I put it back to Michy's 5.1 rom. Now I'm not saying that Michy's roms are the mutts nutts of roms, that is down to personal choice, but it just proved to me why we use cooked roms. Read the WIKI, and I very much doubt you will have a fault that's not covered in that page. Also read THIS superb thread, it tells you all you need to know BE very careful when choosing a rom that you check the SPL on it, as flashing an SPL 3.5 rom onto an Ameo with another SPL will cause all sorts of problems. Like I say, Read the WIKI FIRST. take your time, and do nothing till you are sure!
Regards
Jay
Somehow I found internet access speeds even better although it doesn't display 'H' for HSDPA, because noe HD youtube videos plays smoothly with less buffering, i.e. seems good enough. Battery life has been extended.
USB host is still not good, can't retain it's status, can't load HDD or DVD or CD drives (via powered hub, offcourse)
I was just ponderind, does it drain more battery while connected to keyboard as keyboard definitely will be needing some current to drive and power to run it, that means even when it is plugged in to charger or USB to a PC, what difference does i make w.r.t time it takes to fully charge and retain there where keyboard is connected and when not?
Hi I just upgraded my Ameo using the official TMB 005 6.0 upgrade and it did not relock my sim to tmobile, my vodacom sim is still working fine, however now I want to upgrade it to 6.1 or 6.5 perhaps using a cooked ROM as i cant find an offical Tmobile upgrade to 6.1

I dont think there was an offical t mobile 6.1 release, and any 6.1 stock build will be very old now as I dont think there has been any oem development for this device for a long time.

No there wasn't a 6.1 upgrade for our device, I think they thought it such a small change that it wasn't worth it. and not long after they brought out the 16gb device.

[Q] settings for getting android on a uk hd2

Can anyone give me the best settings to get android to work on a uk hd2 phone.
I have tried to do as people have said and used haret but my phone does not scroll through the linux screen, it just gets 4 whites lines of text then fades to black and does nothing. I have to take the battery out and reset the phone.
cheers
Update your Radio to 2.10 or above.
Make sure you install HSPL then update radio to a version with .50
my radio is 2.10.50.28
Oh and use a rom which is android compatible.
That should help mate
Get the HSPL3_PKG
Get the Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2
Get either the ChuckyROM or the Artemis ROM from:
I'm currently using the Artemis ROM, but the ChuckyROM works well too
Get an android build, all of these work great for me:
SuperHD2
Shubcraft1.5 rebuild
mattc Leo:
I'm currently using the SuperHD2 build, but with the michyprima (r10) kernel for whichever build I use because of extended battery.

[Q] Can stock ROM upgrade lock a phone back to its carrier

Hi, i have to know if updating my ROM (1.43.206.4) to 1.72.206.3 from HTC website can affect the phone being unlocked. I would also like to know how to upgrade my Manila from 2.5.1920 to a better one that supports Sense in landscape.

Hi, i have to know if updating my ROM (1.43.206.4) to 1.72.206.3 from HTC website can affect the phone being unlocked.
If you mean unlock from; unlock your device from your operator, than the answer will be NO!

Thanks for your answer but when i said unlocked, i meant that my cell is already "unlocked" right now (using another network in India). What i need to know is whether the ROM upgrade will "Lock" it back to O2 since the upgrade that i will use reads:
ROM Version:1.72.206.3 for O2 only
NOTE: This update is for O2 UK devices currently on ROM version 1.43.206.4 only. Users with devices on ROM version 1.48.405.2 please click here (on the official HTC site)
So will this upgrade "LOCK" my phone back to O2???
and I guess i should ask a complete question.............please tell me which ROM to go for apart from the one mentioned above............i dont wanna brick my HD2
The complete specs are as follows:
OS Version 5.2.21864 (21864.5.0.81)
Manila Version 2.5.19202525.0
ROM Version 1.43.206.4 (70315) WWE
ROM Date 11/06/09
Radio Version 2.04.50.22_2
Protocol Version 15.26.50.07U
Okay, I sea more clearly now what you mean.
unfortunately I don't have a idea if it will lock again your device. In Belgium we don't have locked device so I don't have experience on this.
And I will not give you a wrong information.
Sorry!
no it will not re lock your device. Once unlocked, its permanent.
yes you can change the o2 splash screen. flash a different rom (some cooked roms dont have them, some do, all oficial ones do, flash a t mo one, you get a tmo splash, flash a generic htc one, you get a htc splash) or you can make your own, see my sig and many threads like it.
@ Kurt Willems and Samsamuel...............thanks a lot. There is one more thing that i need to know; i read somewhere that a wrong radio can damage the cell bad........wanted to know if the following Update would work on My existing ROM:
RUU_Le2_UK_1.72.206.3_Radio_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Signed_LEO_Ship (this is the ROM update file)
Existing :
OS Version 5.2.21864 (21864.5.0.81)
Manila Version 2.5.19202525.0
ROM Version 1.43.206.4 (70315) WWE
ROM Date 11/06/09
Radio Version 2.04.50.22_2
Protocol Version 15.26.50.07U
your current version tells us that you do not have a 'tmous' hd2, so you do not need to worry about the radio bricking your phone. That only applies to tmous hd2s, you have a 'regular' hd2.
