Custom RUU??? - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo Upgrading

Just interested to know if something like this is possible for the athena?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334890
The bit i'm mostly interested in is radio flashing without hard resetting.

No one else interested in being able to do this?

Olipro could do it, whether he will is another story

go open RomUpdateUtility.exe in a hex editor, change "task 28" to "task 12"
job done.

cheers olipro. i'll see if I can work out how to do that.
cheers again

If you read through the forum, you'll find out that you don't need to unlock your phone in every case just to get WM6 installed...only in some cases. Give reading a try and see what wonders are out there. ;-)

p.s. j/k olipro
I know that. i just wanted to know if there was an easy way to see if i could fin out if i was CID enabled or not.

Yes, there is an easy way to tell if you are SuperCid. I beleive Olipro gave you the way to do it. Download mtty.exe. Disable USB activesync, put your PDA into bootloader. Connect with mtty and issue task32 if you receive CID=0 , you are supercid, if you receive FF you are not.
It will also tell you what your cid is...HTC__001 is an HTC advantage, and TMOB__001 is tmobile, etc
Just read the wiki, and search for MTTY.exe and mtty commands. Rally simple once you have read up on it.

And there is possibility that you will go into black screen after you soft reset. If that happen you need the flash rom again (based from my experience)

Unable to Flash

Hi all,
New to this forum. Actually, new to the device (so PLEASE be gentle ). I have an AT&T/Cingular 8525 I got two nights ago (14 Aug) and am trying to upgrade to the latest release version for Cingular. I've downloaded and installed the RUU file on my desktop computer.
When I execute it, I go through the steps as indicated, and when it gets to the point where it starts to push the update - my ActiveSync on the desktop shuts down. I then get the failure message and am left in the cold.
My device came with:
ROM 1.34.502.1
Radio: 1.16.00.00
Protocol: 32.53.7018.01H
I'm running ActiveSync v4.5.0 build 5096.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Joe
edit: I've been reading the upgrading notes on this forum, and haven't seen anywhere the problem with ActiveSync closing down. Also, didn't find this forum until AFTER I started looking at ROM upgrades. I'm surfing around now so I don't brick my phone.
What OS you running? Vista? XP?
Keep reading as you are doing now - good work.
Desktop OS is XP MCE
My desktop is running XP Media Center Edition, and I'm up to date with the service packs and other High Priority and Optional updates (via Windows Update).
I am able to ActiveSync with the Desktop without a problem. It remains connected and data is passed. I can browse the device.
When I try to execute the RUU file, I hear the "device disconnect" sound, the ActiveSync window closes (I've been leaving it open on the desktop), and then the upgrade times out.
WTFO.
I continue to read, but may end up keeping the unit on the original software (not my optimal solution). Anyone else experienced the ActiveSync termination problem on the desktop?
Thanks again,
Joe
Well, have you upgraded anything? Like upgrading the SPL to HardSPL?
What I would do, is this:
1. Read Mrvanx.org upgrade guides.
2. Put HardSPL on there. (If you have the disconnect problem, just put the phone in Bottloader mode, then plug into USB, then run the RUU.)
3. Upgrade to whatever ROM. Try the normal way, if that doesn't work, try the "start in bootloader" method described above or try the SD Crd flashing method.
I personally, take apart any ROM that I want to flash (use winrar to extract the exe and dutty's good nbh tool to extract and rebuild the nbh) and use the most recent custom_ruu and flash that way. I never use whatever RUU is packaged with the ROM. I don't have communication problems. Give it a try, don't give up. If you need to find stuff, try the google search link in my signature - the best way to find stuff on the forums.
Todd,
Thanks for the replies. I just downloaded HardSPL, and will try that when I get home tonight. I also downloaded "Hermes_WM6_WWE_vp3G_v3[1].0.0_ATT.rar" to upgrade to WM6.
To answer your question, no, I haven't upgraded anything (yet). I have been able to put a couple of programs on the device (Battery Pack Pro, Photo Contacts Pro, and Conversions in Hand), and they all work fine.
I'll try the bootloader method if I can't get ActiveSync to make it happen.
Stand by for my (hopefully happy face) post(s) tonight.
Joe
Well, I'm wearing my smiley face 'cause I was able to successfully flash an update into my 8525 last night. While I didn't do it on this machine (my desktop - didn't try), I was able to install Hard-SPL and upgraded to WM6 from a different computer.
I am still running radio version 1.16.00.00, but will try to update that over the weekend. I figued that since I haven't BRICKED this thing yet, I'll keep working on it until I do .
Thanks to all (especially the over 970 postings in the Hard-SPL thread - I read through ALL the pages). This is a great site and I'm looking forward to customizing the H3LL out of this phone.

Reading through the pages is why you are wearing your smiley.
Glad you got it going. Since you are on AT&T, I would suggest you start with Radio 1.50 or 1.48. Those are the ones I have had the greatest success with. 1.48 was shipped with a Cingular update and 1.50 is the newest. I don't know what carrier it shipped with, but it has worked well for me and others I know who are on Cingular.
Good luck and have fun!

Thanks. I'm thinking about 1.48 as I've seen a number of folks with it in their profile. Since I loaded Hard-SPL on the device, I should be able to safely update just the radio, right?
Any benefits to going all the way to 1.50?
Joe
Edit: I upgraded to radio 1.48 (using MrVanx guides). The step-by-step procedure was absolutely OUTSTANDING! I have tested the phone, and IT WORKS! Only difference is now I connect via Edge (shows an E), before it was GPRS(?) (it showed a G). Does it really matter which connection method it uses?

Yeah, you can do just the radio. No problems.
Regarding 1.50, I personally get better battery life. Reception seems about equal to 1.48 for me. Performance is highly dependent on your geographic specifics. Personally, I would put 1.50 on for a few days, then try 1.48 for a few days. Then you can pick whichever one works best for you.
Thanks. As you can see from my edit, I successfully updated to 1.48. I'll use this as my baseline and then see about going to 1.50 in a bit.
Thanks again,
Joe

Hello marinerjoe,
I have tried to upgrade my friend's Hermes and experienced the same problem. Instead, I can flash Hard-SPL on it but fail at upgrade (being kicked out by the Activesync).
May I know if you just complete the upgrade with a different computer with nothing else? Could you advise me your path of success?

I did not attempt to do the upgrade from the same desktop machine upon which I had my problems. Instead of trying some troubleshooting suggestions I read on this site, I took the easy way out . I went to a different machine that I had administrator priveleges on, and did it there.
The difference between the two machines? My desktop has Symantec Antivirus and the Symantec firewall. The other machine (that worked) doesn't have the firewall. There are other differences also, but I'm thinking the firewall might have been a contributing factor.
Others on this board with WAY MUCH more experience with me can tell you if I'm full of SH!T or not (there are some here who aren't shy or afraid to FLAME SPRAY those less ed-ju-ma-cated).
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. GOOD LUCK!

is there a way to use "lnb" commands without being SuperCID?

Hi, there! I found that a lot of us who have bricked our Hermes, don't have a responsive radio bootloader, so when they try to flash a full rom, the progress bar hangs to 13%, or 81%. This is because at that time the flasher is trying to enter the radio bootloader, but because it's corrupted, it hangs. Till today there is no known solution to this one. I'm far away from England where I bought my Hermes, so I'm not thinking to send it back for repair. I'm a programmer, so my knowledge may be usefull here. The first thing I must know is i can use the "lnb" command without being SuperCID. I mean if there is something like a Hard-SPL with an "lnb" command - (or renamed for security reasons). Maybe there is hope!
actually there's a very simple solution to it;
dump the NBH and then rebuild it without the radio.

I think I'm in over my head here

i have been waiting forever for tmobile to release an upgrade to WM6 for my MDA. I found out the other day that wasn't happening so i started searching for ways to do it myself. Here I found people with the same problem and desire I have to get the best OS for my over priced phone.
I quickly found that i have a G4 wizard. i was able to use the "hard spl" program to cange my IPL from 2.26.0001 to 2.21.0001 and my SPL from 2.26.0001 to 2.26.olip that is the end of what i have been able to accomplish. I attempted to flash my phone with TNT19199, i got an error message ERROR 300 INVALID UPDATE TOOL. I have no idea what that's about. then i tried xm6r5, same problem. So i figured i would start from scratch and use "soft spl" to revert to my old IPL and SPL. Now i get ERROR 240 FILE OPEN when i try to run that program.
Where did I go wrong?! I just want a cool phone damn it, lol.
You need the update utility files from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291215
in order to flash a G4

You cannot revert back to official stock rom or apply 'SoftSPL',once you have applied 'HardSPL'.As you have successfully got hardSPL,just use the 'RomUpdateUtility_Noid' from the above link by XL3N7 and flash any wm6 rom,or if you want to apply SoftSPL,you'll have to first remove 'HardSPL'.
Cheers!
thank you so much, i just got TNT installed and running. you two were right on the money. i thought i was gonna get chased out of this forum for asking a question that probably seemed so obvious to the rest of you. thank you again

[Q] Another bricked Athena?

Ok, after 2 days of fighting, sweating, a pc hdd full with roms,tools,mtty,etc...
...i'm giving up. i am posting a help request for the first time since i am a xda user,
and that's been for almost 2 years now. i rather solve problems by doing research on the xda forums but this time i am out of energy.
i had an raphael before where the hacking process was pretty straightforward
and flashing a cooked rom was really idiotproof.
now i got an cool athena in my hands. i was like yeah, let's flash baby....and
the original OS didn't even last for half of a day. quick enough i realised that
this baby shouldn't be flashed the raphael way - the sd card method...
ok let's get on topic:
what i did:
flashed with the AP4 SPL 3.5 AthenaUpdater (following the howto exactly)
and well. that worked fine. the OS was booting and everything. but to my
surprise it looked like that AP4 update flash thing didn't ship another cooked
rom, but flashed my SPL only. i rather expected a SPL, CID unlock and ROM
install in one single package. i don't know what made me think that, since the
raphael has to be flashed with different stuff too before beeing able to...bla
since i was so happy to find that AP4 update howto i guess i was assuming
that this is the whole deal since it doesn't say anything about seperate CID
unlocking in that .pdf
anyway, i looked for a cooked spl 3.5 compatible rom and there i found it:
[ROM] *Updated Mar/4/2010* AGB V3.00.0 (WM6.5.5 build 23534)
and well, that was basically it. the flash went ok, but after booting only
the rom's splash screen appears and nothing further happens. hard reset
doesn't help.
i tried a few other roms after that, and again. only the rom-specific custom
flash image appears and nothing happens.
tried to flash the AP3 for SPL 3.5 ROM - same thing: flash screen says "operating system is loading", which is an bitmap picture i guess...
downgrade to SPL 1.2 doesn't seem possible since this requires a running
WM, which i don't have.
bootloader works by the way, hard reset works too, but no fix...
after a little reading i get the idea that i should have cid unlocked the device
before flashing with a cooked rom? or did i something else wrong?
any help would be appreciated
oh yeah, and mtty:
the recover from invalid id procedure doesn't fix the issue.
and:
set 14 0
task 8
doesn't fix anything too, just boots the device into the never ending flash screen....
quick questions
what does your boot screen say
and did you remove your sd and simcard before flashing
yeah, the i ofcourse removed the sd card and sim card before everything.
i am at work now but afaik my bootloader screen says:
ATHE100
IPL 2.02
SPL 3.50.Olipro
before the attempt with mtty it said
ATHE400
IPL 2.02
SPL 3.50.Olipro
something like that. is that helpful?
i'm wondering that almost nobody replies. is the athena projcet kinda dead
or am i just asking BS, i don't know. anyway, i'll keep this one posted.
i have a new status of my athena: it boots a ROM for the first time. i have flashed
it with a test rom, called:
Windows Mobile 6.1 Base ROM (Testing)
It can be found on the athena latest ROM links page.
And ofcourse there is a BUT(T)....
BUT..the configuration wizard keeps looping. Means the device boots WM6.1,
asks me to calibrate the screen. after that touchflo (or sense) shows up for a few seconds, a progress bar appears and installs some (invisible) stuff and the device reboots. Normal behaviour you'd say, but the calibration screen comes again, and the progress bar too, and reboots, and again, and again...
maybe somebody could tell me how to stop that process? it seems like the
device doesn't save the first time setup settings. how to fix it?

Hi mate
I live in a different time zone and my daily email about updates to posts comes late in my day and probably when you sleep.
There are not many people who use this device and it is really a legacy machine.
However your post gives a clue to what happened.
with the bootscreen showing athe400 initially are you sure you have an x7500/x7501 or is it the x7510?
Just make sure before you follow the solution in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387596&highlight=endless+loop
the roms are very different
Check out exactly which hardware you have
this thread is from the x7510 thread and may be worth a read if you have the x7510
Additionally cmonex has the knowlege to fix your issuues if the above doesn,t work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441684
thank god, somebody replied with useful information
well, i must be honest i didn't pay too much attention on the model number.
after reading your post, i checked and i see that i have a X7510 advantage device.
which means as far as i can understand it:
i SHOULD have the modelid ATHE400?
which means, i messed it up by flashing it with mtty to modelID ATHE100?
which means, all the time i was installing X7500 stuff on the wrong device
and bricked it that way?
so the AP4 3.5 SPL solution is not for X7510?
which means, the AP4 3.5 SPL is a hard SPL but for another device?
and after all, what do you suggest? do i need to revert my modelID
to ATHE400 and if yes, how? and after that i should follow the 2nd
thread to install a proper hardSPL and a WM6.5 ROM of my choice?
try contacting cmonex
the author of this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441684
wrote the script you used to change the device id and may have a way to reverse this
good luck
lakeman, my friend!
you pointed me to the right direction. i followed the steps for installing
hardspl for x7510 from cmonex, and yeah, the modelid changed back
to athe400 and the device was booting! seems like that hardspl also
corrects the modelid automatically.
i am still curious why the device was working after flashing with AP4 3.5 SPL
in first place, since that one is actually for X7500 devices.
i should 've read some more before going to flash that thing, i must admit.
many thanks to you lakeman, and big ups for that cmonex guy!
now it's time to look for a nice wm6.5 rom for my ATHE400
fantastic
happy to help
