HTC Album WORKS but... - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339944&page=6
In the KAISER section all links and stuff about HTC Album, gestures to manage pictures.
I tested with PK 3.0 ROM an it WORKS at 128 DPI the menus are 1/4 of the screen, but slideshow is in full screen.
Nice app, needs to be "SKINNED" to work for us, od just used at 192 DPI!

In fact, it's necessary to modify the .xml to reskin completly the app....
It's long but work

and delete the skin cache dat file in windows, and some minor reg edits..
currently got this running in Portrait 96dpi two columns thumbnails with a preview in the middle of the screen. Still need some work, but I'm getting there.
Is quite a neat app.

Let us know... and also a 128 DPI version for elderly perople will be great!

I second the motion for a 128dpi version but deny the part about old people

Guys you can manage this yourselves.. Not rocket science
change the shortcut to the album, get rid of the mode and other flag.
have a look at the reg entries under hklm/software/htc and see which ones a relevant to you.
change some of the flags in the skin_p xml file, i doubled the w= sizes and the width and height of the thumbnail setting to get a bigger preview.. on that same line you can change the colums and rows.. you may need to change the size of the mask file for preview depending on what you want.
if you look carefully you can change the menus & options etc..
finally delete the skincache .dat and restart the album..(need to do this everytime you change the skin xml).
worst comes to worst you can always reinstall the album cab if you **** up..
so far Ive not been able to get the right hand 3rd of the screen refreshing, if you run with 6 or 7 colums then you can get the outside of the boxes showing on a mouseover, but the way i run mine it leaves a trace of the edge of preview on the screen.
will pop my xml and change mask bmp up in a zip later, just back the originals up.

I haven't tried editting the xml file yet, but I have noticed that when I start the Album, the orientation is inverted lanscape, even if windows is in portrait. There was a file on the original Kaisar thread to start it in a normal orientation, but it doesn't work (or at least not on the Athena anyway)
Anyone know how to get it to start in a right handed landscape orientation, that is, the default for the Athena?
Very nice find by the way, I rarely look outside the Athena forums, so don't find things like this, but I'll be sure to keep a look out now, thanks a lot

I just use the portrait as I can't be bothered with doing two XML files
There's nothing I can see that affects the screen rotation other than the link command -mode:camera in the shortcut, which I got rid of anyway.
Reg entries that seem to make a difference are under hklm\software\htc\touchscroll\htcalbumclass
Enclosed the portrait xml file and picmask, both to go into windows..
**please note these were done for my amusement, and to see what makes a difference, if you don't like em don't moan!

nothing new for me.

everything works perfectly except two things. first, when i open the program it starts upside down. but when i click on a pic it comes up the right way. second how can i tell the program what directory to look in for pics. thanks

Working TouchFlo (Alpha) for Athena (Szabi CubeLauncher)

http://blog.yam.com/leo2016/article/11682010
This is the original Link to a working TouchFlo (Alpha) I am currently testing on the Athena using VGA 96 DPI and the AP/PK's latest v2.0. I have included a zip folder of selected screen shots. I first found this link outside the forum, then learned that other devices on the forum are already working with it.
The program is installed via two CAB files, one installs Adobe FlashLite, the other is Szabi CubeLauncher. Perform a soft reset after loading. Launching is currently to a 'Home Screen' Start>Programs>CubeLaunch. The home background is a bit suggestive, so if you would like to avoid that image, copy the attached bg.jpg to Program Files>Szabi>CubeLauncher and over write the existing file. It can be any 240x320 jpg you prefer.
When you install the CubeLauncher, you also get a CubeConfig program which lets you customize any of the 5 faces of the 'Cube' which is relally a 5-sided prism or polyhedron. Screen shots of each face are included along with one transitional rotation captured.
TouchFlo has been on of the hottest topics around the forum with nearly every device scrambling to cook it into ROMS. Up to now, cooking was necessary as the base applications from the HTC Touch are dll driven. Since this application is Flash(tm) enabled, there is no need for booting with the dll's.
Launching from the home screen is much like the HTC Touch, with an UPWARDS swipe of the finger from the bottom or middle part of the screen. Sides are rotated forward and back with sideways swipes as you would intuitively expect. You can also open and close the cube with a single stylus poke in the bottom center of the screen. Close from the home screen by touching the lower right signal bar.
The first page is a 6 application program launcher followed by a twelve slot phone contacts photo gallery on page two. Page three is a 6 app media page while page four is primarily for MS Office Apps. Page five is yours to play with.
The developer's web site is in Chinese, but the translation indicates that trials of the demo and feedback are welcomed. You can download the demo at the following Link: Http://rapidshare.com/files/54065589/Szabi-CubeLauncherICON.rar
It is not a finished work (yet) but it is getting close. Please provide your thoughts and interest so the the Project Team can assess wether or not to work on this for our devices. As you will see, we can easily do more with VGA quality backgrounds and icons, but the basics are definitely there.
Kind Regards to the Developer
guau! looks very nice! thanks bro!!!!

Did you try?
I would like if it is compatible with ROM Black Touch AP2
If you need not change the dpi i am all up for it!
would someone be super kind and put on a direct link or something else than rapid share, coz i can't use that from my company
Installed on my X7500 WM6 ITA with 96dpi setting, here they are my considerations:
1. Graphic should be improved with an appropriate resolution of images used to build the interface. (I hope I can do it by maself)
2. Scrolling works well even if touching feedback should be more reactive on striping finger over display
3. Not all the applications link work. I hope I can customize by myself
4. Home screen works fine, images resolution apart.
Nothing I can say about RAM and battery usage...still testing it.

Tested with 128 DPI Settings and it looks and works the same, regardless of the font. Some of the demo apps are not set to the correct file links, however using the CubeConfig module, this is easily corrected. I just went through each screen and tested what worked an what didn't, then ran the CubeConfig and changed the broken links. Again, this is an (Alpha Demo) but it is working!
Bother! Was hoping you would say it didn't work
I really should know better than to install beta software, let alone alpha!
Can I resist trying it......
probably not !
Thanks

CommManager Skinning

Hey fellas.
I am sure it's been discussed before and my searches to find something fruitful have been met with limited success:
I am looking for a way (if possible) to skin my comm manager. I have the 6 Button lateral one from Custel's V1.1 and not the 8 or 10 button manager.
Any idea's?
You should find one in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316107
I'm using the HTC Kaiser Comm Manager Fixed.
I see the comm managers but I am trying to find a way to skin my current one. Is there a way to editthe skin on my device? Where are the skins for the comm manager kept at on the device?
All of the graphics for the Comm manager exist in windows\
If you find those files and edit/replace them, you can change the whole way comm manager works.
Problem is, every button is its own image and each has 3+ states (on, off, disabled, or other options). On the 10 button comm manager, that means there are 80+ files to edit.
Thanks Dishe.
Looks like I have a lot of cutting & pasting...
Update:
For anyone looking, on my Alltel PPC6800 I found the files to edit in the \windows dir. The backgrounds are the P_BG & L_BG (portrait & landscape). The status icons are labeled as Status_Off & Status_On.

What someone should do (I'd do it if I had the time!) is create a photoshop .psd file with all of these graphics assembled as slices. Then we can change the background color, etc. and export them as individual files without having to manually edit each one.
In the mean time, the long way is the only way...

i just got done getting all the files on to my card... and now on my computer.. should i make a PSD or just zip it and then people can do w/e they would like?
i have all the PNG files in the windows dir.
I am trying to do what you are but I posted a thread about the access rights of the files for being able to replace them... are you not running into the same problem?
It wouldnt let me modify them at first but once I copied them to my computer, clicked on properties and removed the read-only, all was well. After amendment, they copied over the original on my device with no problems...
Oh wow I will give that a shot... thank you!
I am not sure how that would work though, seeing that the files on the device would still be read-only and shouldn't be allowed to copy over. When I changed the settings in TC it didn't save them either...
Nvm I figured it out! Thx

dc13, getting the files are not a big deal... I have a decomposed ROM image on my computer with all the files that go inside it, so I didn't even need to look on the PPC. I just viewed all files by thumbnail, and grabbed the 80+ files that looked like they belong to the comm manager. BTW, not every .png is for the CM. Some of them can be HTC Home, or the Dialer, etc...
I would have put them up if people were actually having a hard time getting them. The problem is changing them in a uniform fashion!
For example, if you're familiar with photoshop, and you want to change the gradient background to be, say, red and black instead of grey and black, you'll need to create a full sized gradient background that starts from the bottom of the screen and goes to the top (just like the current background image which starts at the bottom as a darker color and ends as a lighter gray on the top), and then make sure somehow that every icon has the appropriate part of the background appearing behind it in the png. This is very time-consuming to do to 80 files.
However, if you had the time and knowledge of Photoshop and ImageReady slices, you could create ONE .psd file that contained all the .pngs arranged in their proper places. Then, change the background of this larger picture, and do whatever you need to do with the icons (which would have to be arranged as layers), then you click to save it, you can have it automatically split it into all the slices needed as individual .png files.
Once this is set up, skinning the comm manager will take a matter of minutes. The problem is that this is probably 2-4 hours worth of work to set up, and I personally don't have the time to dedicate to it right now, especially since its not a paying gig.
I put together a quick guide to creating a Today, Slide2Unlock, Startup, Dialer and Commanager theme. It's in the Hacking & Modifying section of the forum...

It's not that difficult to create a commanager skin, but it does take time to make it look good.
I currently have skinned my commager. I am using the commanager that poorlyduck uses in his theme package but mine has a new vista look.

Manila Dialer Black text workaround/fix

Unfortunately this is only a workaround but it is an effective and easy solution to an irritating problem ! the idea is to change the background out for a white one so the black text shows !! to that end I have included all the files you need to sort this out !
all you have to do is use the reg editor (task manager) included with ap 4.0 tap on the process's tab and kill a process called cprog.exe (this runs the phone service and has access rights to the files you want to modify). After that copy the included files into the windows folder, i did it whilst using active sync) through browse mobile device on my computer for simplicity after editing the pics.
I am also including the originals incase you want to go back !! of course this is now opening the door for any manor or wonderful custom backgrounds for the dialler screen, and infact a whole host of other HTC software including the mp3 trimmer, which also has it's "BG" pics in the windows folder.
anyone who is running 96dpi like me will have noticed that there is space at the bottom of the dialer pad that allows you to see the app running behind the phone, this is now easy to fix and requires these files to be modified in size to cover the currently vacant area, although idealy we need to work out a way to make the bars twice as large in 96DPI to make them finger friendly !
If get round to it I will make the adjustments for 96DPI but it is good as is for all resolutions
and here are the originals
i think the cab you have is bad. i remember i uploaded the addons with a manilla cab that was a bit messed up and i think the text there was messed up. a few min after i uploaded a fixed addons rar.. the text should be find in the new addons cab. i remember i used it to before and there was no text problems.

Ho hum, that took me ages to do and was quite clever by my standards. I only upgraded to AP4.0 yesterday, as I was waiting for a fix to downgrade the SPL on my last ameo before sending it for a warranty repair, in the end I could not wait any longer and just chanced sending in my old phone, which is good, as I now have a new phone
all this is relevant to what you said because I downloaded AP4.0 and the add-ons as soon as they came out, and have not really sifted through the thread because it is huge!
mental note to self RTFM, I could have spent my time productively going through the thread instead of inverting colours in paintbrush !

[MOD]TouchFlo 2D On Athena...

Actually this is a modifying thread for TF2D (TouchFlo 2D)! So maybe some experts can help and make this into VGA compatible then all the Athena users can use this. BTW i have this installed on my device and it works like a charm! But the problem is that it takes only 1/4 of the screen cause its QVGA... I asked Herg (the one who released this as a beta) and he told me that we have to :
1.Dissassemble and reassemble the exe files
2.Making pictures 2 times bigger (actually we can use diamond so we can skip this step)
3.Changin some xml files.
Now I am asking all you guys that can do this to help us and let Athena users taste this thing...
All the credits go to yourselves and definitely Athena users and me appreciate what you'll do for us.

Help
Hi Guys, as an x7510 owner I would like to see touchflo 2d ported to vga too and I may help with it too, right now I have some work to finish but hopefully in a few days I should be able to have a look on things till then could someone get me a "build" or "zip" that contains the original Diamond pictures (or point me to one) as those all already at vga mode so why redo something that already exists and then I could focus on the other changes.
If someone already picked up this work and got to somewhere please let me know so we combine our forces
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427531
suggests editing the XML will allow different screen sizes.
I created a new thread on this subject which should cover this request too, please post your comments there as it is not just HTC Athena but all HTC VGA devices should work with it:

It is very simple, go to the last thread linked, there is a post there that tells you what to do, you download the original m2d, whatever the lastest version is. then after installing you overwrite the files with the VGA ones to the windows folder..
I've just re-read the topic and it makes sense to me.
It's very easy to do.
0---------
Installations / Download
To install please follow the steps found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173 <--- basically get the last file listed and install it from here, otherwise the original poster will have to redo is post everytime the other thread is updated.
and after you have everything up and running (even in the little left corner of your screen but working) then go to "Start->Settings->Today->Items" and uncheck "TouchFlo" press OK then download this zip file and extract the content to \Windows\ directory on your device.
TouchFlo2D VGA - Ver. 0.1.3
http://rapidshare.com/files/15138227...0.1.3.zip.html
Then go back to "Start->Settings->Today->Items" and check "TouchFlo" again press ok and the full resolution TouchFlo should appear.
IMPORTANT: It seems with the latest Manila2d release (1.00...) the files are installed in read only state so you won't be able to overwrite the files unless you remove the Read only state from the files which are all files in \Windows directory starting with HH_..... and HTCHomeSettings.xml and then all files in \Windows\ManilaGFX
----
You need a proper file program, the one that's built into windows mobile is pants. It can't overwrite files in rom or read only.
I'm presuming since you have an athena you know something about windows mobile, these aren't novice devices, if you don't then I'd really really advise you to do some reading.
For the sake of ease, download total commander, it's free and very powerful, search the forum using the search at the top and you'll find millions of links to it.
In /windows folder after installing the original m2d (not the VGA version) using total commander, select SHOW>select/unselect files> type in hh* and everything beginning with those will appear selected, While they are selected (highlighted) press FILE>properties and untick the readonly box.
Do the same to all the files in /windows/manillagfx
Now open where ever you saved the vga files and copy the entire lot across to windows, and accept overwrite all
@fards thx a lot.. very detailed description so even I managed to install manila 2d
TF2D Feedback
Moderator - I am posting here as my comments are based on use on X7501 with factory ROM, if this is an incorrect place please mirror to appropriate section - there are too many to choose from!
First impression on update 20 - EXCELLENT WORK EVERYONE!
Overall device performce only slightly reduced, all programs work as before, touchflo finger slider on bottom works very smoothly.
The Home, People, Messages, Mail, Weather, Maps Search, Settings and Programs Tabs ALL work Perfectly!
Feedback for next update on Tabs.
Internet - Can a GUI selection of browser be incorporated so registry edit is not necessary to change default browser? So one can choose IE, factory Opera or other.
Photos and Videos - Pictures do not flip with finger swipe & picture takes up one quarter of frame
Audio Manager - Library and Player screen uses only top left quarter of screen, the rest is scrambled static in library and black in player. In Library, the text does not refresh in static area, and piles up into solid bar. Would it be easier (or possible) to simply link to media player 10 like HTC Home, get rid of audio manager, then redundant software is not needed?
With these updates it would work perfectly as if OEM.
Are you running successfully in Landscape?
Hi anx7501. I have a x7510 and have also loaded the Manila ver 20 and then pijulius TouchFlo for VGA devices over the top. However, I have had limited success in getting the screen to show as I would like in landscape.
Beacuse of the size of the clock and lack of space in landscape I've been trying to recode the HTCHomeSettings.xml so that Alarm, Call History and Calendar will all continue to show in Portrait, but only Calendar shows in Landscape leaving room for the Tabs along the bottom. I have atempted to do that by editing the lines for Alarm and Call History by inserting zeros thus: <Property name="IDHMWG_MISSEDCALLBTN_RECT" id="30" value="24,304,456,364, 0,0,0,0" /> but alas it is not working.
Have you managed to "crack the code" on this, or come up with an alternative solution - maybe a smaller clock?
Also have you found any alternative skins that will brighten up the device from the basic black?
Finally for some reason my Brightness slider is stuck in the left position. I don't remember this being the case when I had Manila ver 17 loaded. Does your slider work OK?
Hi robjhellis,
Regarding the landscape issue, because this was created for device like diamond with puny screen, it was intended for portrait so I haven't bothered to play with it, also landscape requires an extensive redraw in addition to resizing - I just don't have the time. Though someone in another thread has already resized M2D to work in landscape; however, I don't remember if it was for QVGA or VGA, when I find it again I will post the link here.
Try looking at this for landscape mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436753&highlight=m2d+landscape
I have a Mugen Power 2400 mha battery which lasts a full day, sometimes a little more, with factory ROM. With M2D installed, it chewed through the battery in half a day so for that reason I didn't adjust the brightness and left it alone. The programs I concentrated on were graphic intensive like Adobe reader and dwf viewer. After a few days of only half-day use between recharge, I hard reset and went back to HTC-Home VGA which provides similar tabs (weather, programs), dosen't chew through the battery and works in landscape. I think that because of the difference between devices with factory TF2D - ours has to max out CPU & GPU to operate smooth killing the battery. Short of creating new video driver specifically for our ATI chip, I don't think there's a workaround - btw how's your battery life?
There is a thread in Development and Hacking with M2D skins posted, try there and see if you find something you like.
I really like what I saw and admire the work evryone did, but I rely on my advantage heavily and didn't want to have to recharge or change battery at lunch - sadly I had to drop it. Hope you had/have better luck with yours.
Thanks for your follow-up. I discoverd that the Brightness slider issue was a known bug for vers. 20 & 21 of manila. A fix patch has been created and appended to post 2 (the fixes post) on the manila thread.
As for mbarvian's work on landscape, whilst its great work it does not appear to do anything for us on the VGA advantage/athena. With nthe keyboard attached I can use the left and right arrow keys to move between pages so that is a definate work around to not havig the tabs showing.

I'll try it on my Samsung Omnia If I get it right, this app will finally let me set pictures that are smaller/bigger than my sreen with resizing them to the screen size?
THANKs
.
Awesome!! does it work for wm5? .. dont say 6 only
It should work on Windows Mobile 5 (I haven't tried the latest version), but you first have to install .Net Compact Framework 2 from Microsoft: here.
Windows 6.5 Wallpaper
A good place to get wallpapers is FFFFound.com
Here is the wallpaper that I'm using
http://ffffound.com/image/1833eeacd07acf07502260ed70c5be62af6f9185
Cool...good job!
Cool works great.
It would be awesome if it had a "silent" mode without gui and the wallpaper given by parameters for scripting use.
i.e.
wallperizermob.exe -silent -changeto "/Wallpapers/mywalpaper.jpg"
I know it´s open source but I´m not able to code/compile this feature
Version 1.4.4 works on Windows Mobile 6.5. (Or any other OS where the system's wallpaper files were marked as read-only.)

That is nice, and I'm loving your app! It was quite slow at changing wallpaper at first, but I unchecked all fades/normalizes/sosoes and now it does change pretty fast. Any chance you could add:
a "random picture" setting (not to have it change in alphatbetical order, that is);
shorter change intervals (like 15 mins and 5 mins);
"Load at phone startup" option (I know I can place a shortcut in the windows/startup folder, but I think this is way cooler and can easily be undone!);
And maybe even cab the exe up and get a custom icon?
So far it's the best automatic wallpaper changer for 6.5 Titanium interface!
EDIT: as you can see from my screenshots, looks like we have a couple of glitches... in today screen, bottombar gets funky (looks like it replicates upper taskbar, don't think it should...) and in start menu background remains the one it was there at boot (it changes only after a soft-reset). Think you can sort that out?

I'll implement that.

I didn't add those settings because the user would have to start the phone too often to see the wallpaper changing. I guess some people might do that just to see a new picture. Also note that this would consume more battery. I'll add these too.

The programming framework doesn't have a way to do that. It could be done but I don't know how much work that would involve... and the development of the program is frozen.

I didn't make a cab because I like my programs on the SD card, being able to run without being installed, so that no matter how many times I hard-reset the device, I will still have the programs ready to run (I don't have to install any program ever again).

The wallpaper pictures are shorter on purpose (and so the OS tiles them vertically). Normally, the today bars are opaque and stretching pictures on the entire screen area would cover a significant part of the pictures; this doesn't matter on a desktop computer, but a PDA's screen is too small (relative to the bars). For now this will remain unchanged.

I did that on purpose (but it should not display any kind of picture, or the skin's default picture, as it happens in WM 6.1). On WM 6.1, the today menu doesn't cover the entire screen and when it's opened, if it were to display the same picture as the screen, it would look as if the menu doesn't end anywhere. That's a weird feeling. We'll see how WM 7 will display it's today menu.
Version 1.4.5 is up.
In the "Various" tab there is a check-box to use a random picture.
The background picture of the start menu is changed on my WM 6.1, but only if TouchFlo is not running (I don't know why TouchFlo is not using it).
I have a problem.. not with our program, but with one that we e been trying to fix with roryB on a different thread:
the idea is that the wallpaper would change baed onthe regitry of htc home or manila weather panel and use e riginal weather graphics. there are 40 files in all and they are png's located in windows. we have been able to get mortscrip to change the reg but not the wallpaper.
It has do do the folowing:
1. watch the regitry for changes to the weather update
(the registry updates when you go to the weather panel and it auto updates)
2. based on the updated registry change the wallpaper to HH_WEATHER_##.png
3. refresh the wallpaper on the today screen.
it would be fine if the program copied the image and saved it n a different format such as jpg or gif; howver due to the large filecount t can not have the all 40 weather graphics in a separate folder or have duplicates. that would cost too much space.
RoryB is uing manila 1.5 (update 23) I am uing the mega manila which requres the media package to be able to set the today walpaper... however can be set via the file explorer or any other program for that matter. it does not allow to use the walpaper from the tsk.
my question is: what exactly does your program do tochange the wallpaper?
does it copy the file and rename it?
what actually sets the walpaper and refreshes it?
how can we replicate thi process and make it work?
If you could please let me know via pm or email? please.
Thank you so much, very appreciated!

You can look at the source code, in file "HaraWork \ SourceCode_VS \ Wallperizer \ Wallperizer \ MainForm.cs", the "void SetNativeWallpaper" method.
There are lots of steps and they have to be followed exactly, or else either Windows Today or Manila do not show the wallpaper. Just as an example, Manila refuses to show the wallpaper if the "HKCU \ Software \ Microsoft \ Today \ Wall" registry key is not set with whatever text.
By the way, I don't think PNGs are supported by the OS. You must copy the wallpaper in the "Windows" directory as BMP or JPEG (GIF works too). Note that the file name is specific, you can't use anything you want; "tdywater_[screen width]_[screen height]" is the name. The file name is created in the "string GetWallpaperFileName" method.
(Be sure to remove the read-only attribute of the "tdywater" / "stwater" files before you try to overwrite them.)

Make sure you download the latest version (1.4.5).
Click on the "Wallpaper information" button and see "Loaded pictures". If it says "0" then the program failed to either load the pictures or failed to set any of them as wallpaper (if this happens, they are cleared from the internal queue).
(You could manually set a wallpaper in order to be sure it works on your PDA.)
Version 1.4.7
* Added command line parameters.
* Check the "Portrait and landscape" check-box (from the "Various" tab) in order for the wallpaper to be set for both screen formats (= portrait and landscape). Note that this requires twice the processing time every time the wallpaper is changed.
