MDA 2 battery charges on USB but doesn't on standard adapter

I have been using my MDA2 without problems for over a year now. Recently it developed a problem. I noticed that when I put the MDA in the cradle it only charged the battery (green light on) when the computer was on and USB connector was attached to the computer. Although the adapter was also attached, it wouldn't charge the battery anymore when the computer was off. The same problem occurs in my car. When I put the MDA in the car-loader, it doesn't charge anymore.
I think the connector might have a loose contact or so. Can anyone help with this problem? Is USB charging different from standard (adapter) charging? Different voltage? Anyone heard of loose contacts in the connector in the mda? I tried different cradles and a new car connector but nothing helps. Anyone?

charging atom exec in car

dear all, i bought a car to usb adapter recently, hoping to use it to charge my atom exec when driving. but sad to say, it doesnt charge my atom exec at all. but it works with my ipod n other usb devices.
does anyone hv any idea why car to usb adapter cant charge my atom exec?
thks alot in advance!!!
cheers
Hi,
I find that by turning the phone on and then connecting the usb, it works ok. the led should turn red (atom exec) if it is working. If I just plug the phone into the usb car charger it does not work.
cheers, Richard
(i think this thread is in the wrong forum, should be accessories)
I had the same problem with my Atom. I think you need the car charger to output 1A as I have tried a couple with 500ma and it would not charge.
by default, all other USB charger could not charge the O2 because they are NOT designed to charge a WINCE. Have you ecer notice that even you plug in your WINCE devices to a USB cable connected to your PC without installing a correct driver, it won't charge your WINCE?
thks all for e replies...
i had discovered the reason behind why the usb charger is not working for pda phones. its bcos the voltage is too low to charge the pda phones.
now i had bought another usb charger with a higher voltage n it works!!! so for those who want to charge their pda phones using usb charger when driving, pls rem to get RAPID usb charger. only these RAPID usb charger works with pda phones.
enjoy!!!
cheers

[Q] Strange charging problem

Hi everyone, hope someone can advise.
I have a UK TG01 and it works ok but overnight it wont charge from the mains charger but it charges via usb.
I have tried different chargers and an old HTC mini usb charger with a mini to micro adapter fitted but its still the same.
I have the Mugen 1300Mha battery but its the same with the standard battery on all chargers.
I have cleaned out both the charger plug and the socket on my TG01 just in case of dust but no good it only charges via usb.
I have hard reset and flashed the standard UK Orange rom but this makes no difference.
Does anyone know whats going on? it was fine, no changes or software loaded and one day its fine and the next day it wont charge??
Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks for reading.
Faulty USB sockets i think try send it back to Toshiba for warranty repair.
Not sure about that as my TG01 does charge if I plug it into my laptop, this would suggest the socket is ok?
I believe that the charger is faulty, try a new micro usb charger, or try another socket

Agreed. As the TG01 is charging via USB, then there is most unlikely to be an issue with the uUSB socket on the phone.
To tell the TG01 to go into charging mode, the uUSB connector on the charger must have the two data pins shorted out. This is the equivalent effect to connecting to a host laptop or PC when connected via a USB sync and charge cable.
If you have a non-standard charger or are using an adapter from eg. mini-USB to uUSB it is very likely that this will not be implemented.
A few questions...
- Are you trying with the supplied Toshiba charger ?
- If so did it work OK with this before but not now ? [likely duff charger]
- If a 3rd part charger, again has it ever worked ? [if not then probably missing the required pin config]
Hope that is of some help.
Hi Kevin, its a genuine Toshiba charger and I have been using it since day one.
I took my charger into work today and tried a friends Nokia micro usb charger and that worked first time so duff charger.
No, I asked him to try my Toshiba charger and that also worked
So I assume my original charger possibly may not be 'shorting' correctly or presenting exactly the right resistance to the TG01 or possibly my TG01 is getting a little fussy about how it charges.
Anyway I have ordered a genuine Nokia charger from ebay and fingers crossed all should be well and thanks for all the advice everyone.

[Q] Car Charger?

Anyone know if a car charger is available? I use my soon-to-be-sold G-Tablet in my car all day for work and I need a charger.
The Transformer uses a Usb to dock connector cable along with a power adapter so any cig lighter usb charger should work. I will check mine and post back.
The problem is that a normal 12v to USB charger usually charges with [email protected] (1A if you find a special one) and the Transformer needs [email protected] So it wont charge if the screen is turned on.
