SDHC cards possible on Charmer - MDA Compact II ROM Development

Hi all,
I just go my hands on a 6GB Micro SDHC Card, but my Charmer with the latest Mobile 6 Touch flow on it does not recognize it.
I also tried the HTC SDHC cab file
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310456&page=4)
with no success.
Does anybody have a solution, or is it a HW problem?
BR,
JJ

Hi! (First post )
I have that same problem Anybody knows something about it?

You have to rewrite the driver. I can look into it in the middle of the next week.

Any luck?

No time till now but I haven't forgotten that.

That would really be great!
Wow, SDHC on a Charmer, that would be a "killer-app", though not really an app
Hardware manufacturers always try to force us to buy new things (together with sofware manufacturers, of course), with files and programs getting bigger and bigger and standard SD restricted to a maximum of 4GB, the charmer would soon be (well, at least in 1 -2 years) found in museums only, unless there was a way to use SDHC...

Soory buy to say, but I can only make SDHC up to 4GB working, cause this is the hareware limit and till now I wasn't able to port the driver.

8GB in two partitions...
Oh, I don't think this limit would be a problem, I heard Windows Mobile can handle storage cards with more than one partition, so you could partition an 8GB SDHC card into two 4GB partitions and then have two storage cards in one...
What's really funny is that Windows Vista canNOT handle storage cards with two partitions, though one might think being the "bigger" OS it should have more abilities than Windows Mobile
Anyway, one could easily fill the two partitions with a Linux OS

Linux is great . But I have to say no your Idea doesn't work cause the reader supports only 4GB. Two partitions at 4GB in one card means 4+4=8. 8 is 4 too big cause not the partition counts but the full card.

I triead also with all of the sdhc drivers and registry tweaks but no good.
Mine is Super Talent 4gb sdhc card.
Any sugestions?
ChrBeck have you managed to make it work?

ChrBeck:
"Soory buy to say, but I can only make SDHC up to 4GB working, cause this is the hareware limit and till now I wasn't able to port the driver."
Please could you make SDHC driver for 4GB for me?
Charmer WM6 Touch Flo.
Thank you.

Same question?
Need that driver or I have one card for garbage

I'm trying to make it working, but it seems that the 2005 hareware simply can't read SDHC.

I thought it would be like that.
Tnx anyway.
If you manage something that would be great cause almoust imposible to find non sdhc 4gb card.

where can I get that driver to make a 4 gb SDHC card work with my charmer?

There is no such driver. Use a non-SDHC card with 4GB instead.

4 Gb secure digital??

hi guys!
Does anybody know if the 4gb sd works with the wallaby??
I've heard about someone who successfully uses the 2 gb sd.....
But somewhere else they say that the limit is 1gb...
since the price of the 4gb sd is so low...
http://cgi.ebay.it/150X-4GB-ADATA-S...temZ7605863020QQcategoryZ122613QQcmdZViewItem
and what if, the sd doesn't work with xda?xda will see it as a 1gb card, or will not recognize it at all??
thank you in advance
I just got a Transcent 4GB SD Card. It works fine in the Wallaby. Wallaby recognizes it as 4GB, just perfect. Windows Media Player also recoqnizes it well. Now we have iPod nano 4GB inside our Wallaby.
nice! i bought the 2gb Adata sd and it works fine too....maybe i will buy the 4 gb...or maybe i'll wait i while:i've heard rumors about the development of a 8gb sd!!!
i have no wallaby but universal and purchased the adata 4gb from fastmemoryman. unfortunately after two weeks of using it got damaged while it was inserted in my universal and avantgo was updating the news channels. a write error message appeared and since this moment i could no longer read the card, no reformatting, nothing. it is no longer recognized by any sd-devices like card reader, pda, digital camera. i have tried several devices, no success. so i contacted fastmemoryman and he offered me to replace the card as it has lifetime warranty. this is what i am going to do tomorrow.
my post should not be any kind of claiming against fastmemoryman or adata sd-cards as i have purchased an adata 2gb from fastmemoryman about 1,5 years ago and this card is in use day-by-day with no problems.
maybe 4gb cards are more sensitive but this is just an idea as only one bad sd-card in my whole life of using sd-cards is no good proof for such a statement
regards
peter
Recently I found out that Wallaby does not display every file written to the 4GB SD Card. Those files were written to the 4GB SD Card from a Windows XP Machine. And when accessed from the Wallaby, in the File Explorer, many of those files did not show up.
Same thing from Media Player, in the Local Content, a large portion of the MP3 files did not show up.
However, Wallaby does show correct size of the SD Card in the Settings, Memory, Storage Card.
So, please be aware of this. My 4GB SD Card is the Transcent one.
This problem does not exist when using the same SD Card in a Universal.
humm disappeared files..
it happens sometimes also with my 128 kingston sd,,don't know if it's really an sd problem..
anyway i solved the problem doing a soft reset...strange anyway....

First 4GB microSDHC from Kingmax

From Mobile-review.com:
"Kingmax has announced a storage card microSDHC capacious of 4 GB. This is a record for this standard, says the company. Until now microSDHC cards carried 2 GB maximum.
The cards comply with SD 2.0 specifications. They feature 127X or 19.1 Mbps (write) and 150X or 22.5 Mbps (read) speeds. No doubt, the cards will be in demand for multimedia mobile phones and other portable electronics, should the price be adequate. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t provided the info on the release date."
But do our Tytns support SDHC anyway?
No the Hermes does not support SDHC.. too bad, my 2gb is almost full!

whats that stand for then?
Guess "HC" stands for "High Capacity"...

Has to be seen I think, don´t know of any standard (non-SDHC) 4GB microSD card, do you?
SDHC info from Sanddisk:
What is SDHC? SD High Capacity (SDHCTM) card is the new SD™ memory card based on the SDA2.00 specification, introduced by the SD Card Association. This new SDA 2.00 specification enables SD cards to reach higher capacities - 4GB-32GB*.Because SDHC works differently then standard SD cards, this new format is notbackwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices. More SDHC compatible devices are expected to be available in the second half of 2006. To ensure compatibility, look for the SDHC logo on cards and host devices (cameras, camcorders, etc.)Compatibility with SDHC 4GB: 4GB SDHC cards can only work with SDHC compatible host devices. To ensure compatibility, look for the SDHC logo on the packaging. Please check with your device manufacturer for their current/future supported SDHC devices. What is Class Speed Rating? The SD Association has created and defined 3 speedclasses to help you identify speed and performance capabilities/minimum requirements of SD/SDHC cards and the host products. The SD Speed Class Ratings specify a minimum sustained write speed for SDHC cards (Class 2: 2 MB/s; Class 4: 4 MB/s; Class 6: 6 MB/s*). You can look for the Speed Class Logo to identify the performance class of your memory cards and host devices. NOTE: SDHC, the SDHC logo and SD are trademarks.*1 megabyte (MB) = 1 million bytes; 1 gigabyte (GB) = 1 billion bytes.

In the Registry I saw keys concerning sdhc. So I would believe Hermes can handle it. I think it's worth a try
Don't you have to format anything larger than 2GB in NTFS format.
I think this device can only read FAT16. Might need a ROM upgrade

No, SDHC Cards are formated in FAT32, so it isn't so hard.
I just formated my 1GB microSD Card with FAT32 and I was able to read it on the Hermes. So this should be no problem.
Just go to your local dealer and tell him, that you will buy it if it works with your PDA. Normally this is no problem. I tried severall MemoryCards this way in former times.
I think it's worth a try...
BrainWashed: what rom are you using?
Can you PM me the name of the driver?
Thanks!

If you have an SDHC card, you may try a solution from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293556
Please report the results!
Actually, I've looked through my registry, and found all the registry settins that are installed by this CAB already there. Also the driver file required (SDHC_SC2410.dll) is sitting in my \Windows directory.
So... SDHC should work on Hermes out of the box...

Thx m8 but still is not working, i thik is a hardware problem ... the wizard dose not suport SDHC.
As stated in many other threads, SDHC will never come to the Wizard, the hardware does not support it, and no matter how many times people ask, it will still not work.

Actually SDHC is not a hardware issue but rather a driver issue to understand the new format of the SDHC cards.

I feel that right now they wont work but later we will get them to work.

Agreed SDHC doesn't work at all, but to say 4GB works "very well" is totally misleading. Look at all the posts from people reporting problems with 4GB cards. You're extremely lucky indeed if you can find a totally reliable 4GB non-SDHC card. Even people reporting success tend to post again a couple of months later reporting corruption or total breakdown of the card.
So there is no driver out there for SDHC?
I guess that means upgrading to WM6.....

WM6 won't help either. There's rumour of support in some roms but nobody actually running an SDHC card.
I was thinking that it might be possible to produce a hardware SDHC Transflash to SD Mini adapter. The problem lies in how the card is addressed, so if an SD Mini adapter could be made with a built-in SD to SDHC interface the problem would effectively go away. There might be some incentive for the industry to produce such an interface if the price of >4GB SDHC Transflash cards drops low enough.
I guess there might be overheads in access times and power consumption though. Any thoughts?
Oooo, a month passed, but no driver for wizard appeared.

Hope it helps

They also sell non SDHC.. So it's a buggy crap, but some people claim it works. I tried one made by Dysan, actualy it was 3.9GB. It worked in STR TRK, until I reached the maximum. Then all data was like lost.
MrMiguel: rather get a 1GB SD card. Not sure for what you need so much space. I have 2x 1GB SD and it works fine. If I know I will make demos, I change the card in my phone.

It's such a pain to change out the MicroSD cards in this phone, though. That is the point of having the largest one you can get.
Obsolete
The hardware requirements are different for SDHC cards. The 8525 actually has a SDHC card reader (32GB), but WM5 only supported regular SD (2GB max). When people cooked WM6 ROMs for the 8525, they made sure to include new SDHC drivers, allowing up to 32GB cards.
I'm not sure what type of card reader hardware the 3125 has, but it seems likely it is only a regular SD reader, as the 3125 is more similar to the 8125 than the 8525. The 8125 only has a regular SD reader. Even if the 3125 does have hardware support for SDHC, it doesn't seem all that likely that there will ever be a WM6 ROM for it, as HTC isn't releasing one, and the developer community here doesn't seem that motivated.
The limitation is not on the OS at least as far as reading 4gb is concerned. As long as the card is not sdhc. I have a 4gb sd card fully loaded with 3.5gb+ data and programs. My htc universal has no problems reading and writing to it. Very fast, too. Even my old Toshiba E800 sees all the circa 3.98 gb in both read and write mode. There are even 8gb non sdhc cards out. I have not tried them but people who report that they work just fine. I have not seen a transflash 4gb card that is non sdhc, but I have no doubt it exists.
"Jozer99 . . . The hardware requirements are different for SDHC cards."
The HTC Universal was shipped as Non-SDHC, however the latest ROM's have been providing SDHC with the existing hardware. It seems to be more an issue of the drivers, not the hardware.
any news?
I still have a 4GB card lying around, I'd like to use it. Is it possible?

I have an 8525 running this 4GB card but it is running WM6 and someone said that is the only way to get 8525 to read this card. If true that means WM6 would also be req'd on the StrTrk. I'm interested because my daughter wants a decent Cingular phone that will store 4GB of MP3's. If it does I will buy her an 3125.

Cingular 3125 is pretty crappy for listening to music. Buy a simpler MP3 phone. The headphone jack on the 3125 is proprietary, and the included earbuds are awful. The music player is Windows Media Player, which is somewhat buggy, occasionally skips and crashes.
The hardware requirements ARE different. HTC shipped many devices with SDHC card slots, but with OS support for only regular SD. However, some older HTC devices actually DID have SD only slots, so it is not possible to use SDHC cards with them. HTC hasn't really released device specs, so the only way to know for sure will be to port WM6 and see if it works.

Please tell us: what kind of card? SDHC or non-standard SD?
This is what HTC.wiki says:
microSD slot NOT capable of SDHC; maximum theoretical capacity is 4GB, which has been confirmed through several reports from HTC, wherein they stated the phone has been "tested up to 4GB". Though user reports of this are not present, 4GB non-SDHC microSD cards are rare as well.
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Qtek+8500+Specs?t=anon
so maximum capacity is 4 GB THEORETICALLY!! They have no user reports till now! What do you say?
Found this cab for SDHC for smartphones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351586
Does it really work with your SDHC and StarTrek so I can buy one for me, too?
Micro SD 2 GB
I am using 2 Gb micro SD in my Dopod S301. Its working fine. I have yet not seen a 4Gb micro SD. If you have one I think you can use it !!!
I tried the SDHC Support Kit on my 3125 and it didn't work. And still haven't found a 4 gig non SDHC card yet. hopefully someone will come out with one soon, or a hack that would allow an SDHC card to work.
Nokia MU-41 4GB microSD card
The Nokia MU-41 4GB microSD card appears to be non-SDHC, as the pictures of it do not show HC on it, even though sellers of it advertise it as SDHC (see here for example) - but ad blurbs often say "High Capacity" - well, yes, it is High Capacity, but maybe it is not Secure Digital High Capacity, and there is a difference that is more than just FAT32 formatting, as can be seen by trying to use an SDHC card in an older card reader on a PC - won't work - got to use one that is SDHC 2.0 compatible.
The Sandisk website has a good explanation of the differences:
"The SD High Capacity (SDHCTM) card, miniSD High Capacity (miniSDHCTM) card, and microSD High Capacity (microSDHCTM) card are the new SD™ memory cards based on the SDA 2.00 specification, introduced by the SD Card Association. This new SDA 2.00 specification enables SD cards to reach higher capacities: 4GB - 32GB*.
Because SDHC, miniSDHC, and microSDHC cards are recognized by new SDHC, miniSDHC, microSDHC host devices differently than standard SD, miniSD, and microSD cards, they are not backwards compatible with legacy SD, miniSD, and microSD format host devices. Standard SD, miniSD, and microSD cards are forward compatible with new SDHC, miniSDHC, and microSDHC host devices.
Legacy SD/miniSD/microSD host devices and SD/miniSD/microSD cards (up to 2GB) are FAT 16 file system compatible, while the new SDA version 2.00 file system specification defines a SD FAT 32 file system for the new SDHC/miniSDHC/microSDHC host devices and cards.
Be aware of non-SDA 2.00 specification compliant SD 4GB, miniSD 4GB, and microSD 4GB cards on the market. If these non-compliant SD/miniSD/microSD 4GB cards record data in a SDHC host, and are then used in a legacy SD/miniSD/microSD host, issues and problems may occur. File system incompatibility, data corruption, and potentially you may actually lose the data/pictures. In addition, if these non-compliant SD/miniSD/microSD 4GB cards are inserted into a legacy SD/miniSD/microSD host device, the host device may not recognize/utilize the card as 4GB, and it instead may read as a 2GB card. If the SD/miniSD/microSD 4GB card does not have SDHC/miniSDHC/microSDHC on it, it is not SD 2.00 compliant.More SDHC, miniSDHC, microSDHC compatible devices are expected to be available in 2007. To ensure compatibility, look for the SDHC/miniSDHC/microSDHC logo on cards and host devices (cameras, camcorders, etc.)"
Based on this, I am hopeful that a 4GB microSD that is NOT labeled with the SDHC logo (like the Nokia MU-41), may work with older devices such as the StarTrek. I know there are 4GB miniSD cards that are non-SDHC, because I have one, and it works fine in my 8125, where an SDHC card will not.

8525 Memory ?

Hi Guys!
I have 8525 and i need some INFO about this phone i just got it so i need to buy a memory card which one does 8525 support? and how many GB can support??

It supports the Micro SD card. Do not confuse with the Mini SD, Micro SD is the real small one. I think it can take up to 2 GB. (Don't hold me to the size.)
I use a "SunDisk" Micro SD 2GB card and it`s work preety fine.

It depends on if the phone has WM5 or 6.
Last I read, WM6 has support for SHDC cards, which have a limit of 32 gig per the spec. If you have WM5 on the phone, you are stuck with a standard SD, which is limited to 2 gig by the spec.
However, you might be able to find a 4 gig non-SDHC. I don't know if they exist in microSD formats, but I have a standard size SD card that is 4 gig.
Used it in my Blue Angel. Worked fine, if not a bit slow (data transfer was faster when I had it divided into a pair of 2 gig 'cards'. Think this was due to the overhead of a fat32 filesystem).
My hermes came with WM6 and is working perfectly with the 4gig sandisk I picked up over the weekend.
I have a 8gig sdhc card in mine with schaps newest rom. I cant wait for my 16 I just hope its supported

It should be. Spec is good for up to 32 gig.
...and after a quick google to verify, it looks like Toshiba and Sandisk both have announced 32gig cards. That didn't take long. Of course, I have a 4 gig non-SDHC SD card, so if someone 'extends' the spec officially with new access modes, or makes a card that is not quite SDHC spec, they may be able to release larger sizes without hardware/software upgrades for existing devices.
BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what do you have on that machine that you need a 16 gig card?
Heck, I'm using just a shade over 330 meg, and got the 4 gig card only because it was a good deal.
