[Q] Anyone else having antenna sensitivity issues?

I switched from a Focus to the Titan about a week ago. I love the Titan, except it seems to me that the antenna sensitivity is pretty poor. Cases in point:
1. On a call on my Titan at the office, I enter a stairwell in the building, and immediately the call drops. With my Focus, I could walk up and down these stairs all day while on a call and never have the call drop.
2. At home, I get very poor coverage. Last night at home my Titan is telling me that there is no network available. I walk over and pick up my wife's Focus and it is showing AT&T network and two bars! I power cycled my Titan hoping that it might re-lock onto the network, but it continued to tell me that no network was available all evening. I was unable to make or receive any calls last evening.
3. Right now, sitting in my desk at work, my Titan is bouncing between 2-3 bars. My Focus, sitting in the same spot would always show 4-5 bars. When I pick up my Titan, the signal strength display drops to one bar.
I really, really like this phone, but if this is the indication of the signal strength that I can expect, I am going to have to return it. Anyone else having this problem?
OK, I may have answered my own question. After posting, I saw this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18523952&postcount=12
I opened the case on my Titan, contacts looked fine. But when I put the phone back together, I squeezed the case very hard at the bottom, and the signal strength indicator immediately went to four bars. Will monitor and see if this takes care of the problem.
Just received my Titan.
The signal is terrible. Sitting right next to my hd7s, the hd7s gets speeds of around 1mbit/sec while the Titan gets connection errors.
Checked the contacts and they are fine
Everywhere I test, the Titan consistently has a weak signal. This is on att in central NY. I wont even compare it to the signal on my Droid with verizon. I absolutely love the phone, but with the signal problems I'm probably going to be returning it

Did you get a new SIM card or are you using your old one. The new micro SIM made a big difference on my Titan. I had a one year old sim from my Focus. My nephew had a 15 month (?) old Sim for an Iphone 3Gs. When I put both in two Titans, mine was had better signal and internet connection. I noticed that Titan uses the micro SIM(saw someone with it), so I got a new micro SIM yesterday. My signal is even better. The internet flies on my phone now.
I'm still using my old sim that I had from the Focus (and earlier). Did you get your micro sim at the AT&T store? I may get one myself.

Yes, I did. Make sure to go to a corporate store. It's free. If you go to a franchise they'll charge $20, I believe.
When I bought my phone online, they sent a new SIM with the phone.
Signal strength and quality seem better since I made my original post. Still not as good as my old Focus, but acceptable.
No issues here! Can text in lifts!

Hello there,
After getting my Titan from AT&T, I saw that the signal was much lower than my iPhone 4.
When I got home, I had no service in the house where I had 1 or 2 bars with the iPhone 4.
I checked the contacts, but they where fine, so I started to make test to find witch of the 2 botthom contacts was the positive of the antenna.
With the phone face down, the faar right contact is the ground of the antenna, because it has continuity with the chassis of the phone.
So the left contact is the one to work with.
I then research on the internet for the lenth of a 850mhz antenna, & I found that it is 9 cm.
I then cut a piece of brass shim half a centimeter wide by 9 centimeter long.
I soldered a small hard copper wire thru the left hole of the cover & soldered it to the inside tab of the back cover, making shure that no solder or wire protrude from the contact. Otherwise you will have problems to close the back cover against the phone.
I then made a pin hole thru one end of my brass shim I had previously cut.
I then turned the cover over & pass the brass shim thru the hard copper wire I just soldered on the inside. I used invisible regular tape to secure the brass shim on the back cover & then proceeded to solder the shim with the hard copper wire as close to the back cover possible. I then tested my invention & I have now 2 bars where I had no service before.
Of course, I Had a Hard Cover shell to cover this installation, but the results are fantastic.
You have to be aware that the phone back cover will be altered in case of warranty, but you can get a replacement cover on Ebay for aprox $36.
Do this at your own risk
You can sand this soldering in order to prevent having difficulties putting a protective skin or cover.
I strip of copper can also be used for this homemade antenna.
You can PM me if you need more help for the installation.
I now have a full functioning HTC Titan that I now have learn to cherish.
By the way, the problem that a lots of people are having with slow downloads, is directly related to tha lack of a good antenna on this phone.
Hope this hep some of you out there.

I found the real problem with signal issues of the Titan.
I had bought a second HTC Titan & I thought of trying the back cover on my first Titan.
The results are astonishing. The back cover was all that was wrong on my device. With the second Titan I purchased from AT&T on the Web, there is no problem with the sigral.
I have now ordered a new cover from Ebay & will try to get a replacement from HTC for my original one that was defective.
I really think there was a bad batch of those back covers for this Titan & we where the unlucky ones to get them.
If you know someone that has no issues with his Titan, try his back cover on your phone.
Hope this help someone.
Good luck.

The last week models?

Hey. Did someone get his Prime in the last week?
I wanna know if the models are better than the first few weeks models.
I got mine this week (canadian cbil) and the wifi is horrible. I don't believe any fixes have been made yet.

I got a Gray from Best Buy on Monday (shipped last Friday), and here's a report:
1. Significant light bleed all around the screen. The worst of the three Primes I've tried out so far.
2. A terrible yellow cast to the screen. I know what people are talking about now when they complain about this. Two out of the three Primes I've tried have had excellent screens (except for minimal light bleed) with good colors. This one is horrible.
3. Haptic feedback is the same as on my Champagne model: mostly just makes a funky sound punctuated intermittently by actual vibration. Call it non-working.
Otherwise, this one is similar to the other three in terms of wifi, GPS, BT, etc.
Got mine this week from Best Buy, Ordered Friday, Receieved Wed.
Gray 32gig.
1. Opened it up and as soon as I hit the power button I saw 2 bright pixels areas against the black background. Not that big a deal at first.
2. Turned it on trying to ignore the on pixels and opened the web browser. 2 more areas with super bright/dulled pixels. So now 4 bad areas.
3. Light bleed on 3 out of 4 sides.
4. Wifi very sluggish when normal laptop wifi works fine.
Didn't try BT, GPS seemed to lock on fine, could have been based on Wifi though.
I got mine two days ago. I haven't noticed any big issues. I haven't bothered with gps. I didn't test bluetooth streaming and wifi performance. Unusual lag from time to time. Couple software issues but nothing that seems hardware related or unfixable yet.

Interesting, so are you saying out of the 3 TF's you've seen, 2 of them have a cooler color temperature screen than the latest one you have?
Seems like there is nothing to do but to go for the Galaxy Tab 10.1
Got mine yesterday was delivered by UPS ordered from Best Buy 1/5. Everything working as it should...no lifting of the glass...minimal light bleed...no dead pixels...valid serial...only issue a small spec of dust causing a greyish shadow on light colored backgrounds...not that noticeable watchin vids and playing games but web browsing/e-reading it is...thing is i dont want to return this be witout the tab for weeks for a replacement only to get one with worse issues and unknown serial...gonna hold on to this one and RMA it if need be once the major bugs have been worked out down the road.

Precisely. The two are not as cold as my wife's Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but I tend to like warmer colors anyways so I consider that a good thing.
But man, the third one--ouch. Whites in particular are distinctly yellow-tinged, although everything tends to be overall.
Received my 32G grey TP yesterday. Ordered on 1/5 from Best Buy.
All seems good. Upgraded to ICS without issue. No light bleed. Wifi is a bit weak. Haven't tried bluetooth yet.
Think I am really gonna like this little beast!
Got mine today from ebuyer boxed with both tablet and dock! (Im in London UK)
Had absolutely no problems with it at all, no pixel probs, wi-fi, gps takes about 15 mins to lock with wi-fi off and a few secs with it on.
Upgraded to ICS because it kept nagging me too, and its still running perfectly, no issues here at all, i love it.
I picked up mine today....so far seems good. Updated to ICS, will take some time to get use to that over HC. Does anyone know of the model numbers I got a CBil unit her ein Canada (otherwise it's a BC0K unit)

Signal Issues - resolved!!!!

A quick history - bought a white note on release day, along with speck candyshell case. like with most new phones, had the back off and on several times a day the first few days. broke a few tabs on it, but it lived in its case, no big deal. Well I noticed that data signal in my office was terribly splotchy. I would get signal, drop it, repeat. returned the note after 2 weeks and swapped for another new one.
2nd phone - started with great signal, got worse and worse (also broke a few tabs on the back cover). Well, I was sick of the loose fitting back cover (you could tell even with the case on) so I folded up a receipt and put it between the back of my phone and my case to hold pressure against the back plate.
SIGNAL ISSUES COMPLETELY RESOLVED. I cannot believe how well this phone picks up now. Apparently, the 2 little contact points on the back plate (and the antenna-chip thingy on the backplate) help to aid in signal strength. figured I'd post up to share if anyone has similar issues.
Oh, and I'm kicking myself now because the first phone never had ANY black clipping/crush issues (I started Lost season 1 on Netflix when I got the phone, one episode a night in a pitch black bedroom), and this one has it so bad that you can't even make out dark scenes.

Those contacts you see on the back plate is for NFC not signal Strenth
I know the purpose of the chip in the backplate is for NFC, but it makes a huge difference in signal strength.

UK single SIM info and also Improving the speakers?

Hi all,
I just bought myself the English version of the HUWAEI 10 mate Pro and in general I am in love with the phone.
The English version comes with a single SIM and does NOT come with the screen protector or the rubber case with it.
It DOES come with a 3.5mm headphone jack convertor though which is nice.
I'm not going to review the phone because there are already plenty but I am going to talk about the speakers.
In general I was slightly disappointed with them. They are literally the only weakness the phone has. Everything else is quite literally phenomenal.
The top speaker is very tinny with distortion and the bottom speaker is decent but also has distortion.
Suffice to say I wanted to improve them.
Anyway, I tried a few equalisers from the play store and can safely say they do improve the sound alot, albeit at the expense of some volume. This doesn't really matter though because the speakers are loud enough.
I used an app called base booster and turned the bass boost to 50% and used the 'more basses' preset. The sound is now very very decent, but I still would expect a bit more.
Does anyone else have any recommendations as to what they do to improve the sound. My experience is it is not very good out the box, but can be made much better.
To anyone else thinking of buying this phone, do it. It's a great price that rivals any top phone and the screen is absolutely stunning. Not just stunning for the price but truly truly stunning.

I bought mine as an EE upgrade from Carphone Warehouse and it did come with the screen protector on and the rubber case (Though I found I much preferred a Spigen case). Still single sim, though I see the dual sim trays are available on ebay and I gather it can be rebranded as a dual sim in firmware

Can't help on that at the moment, but I'll try that app and maybe try some fiddling to see what else is available. I could do with a little extra volume myself, but mostly listen to audiobooks/podcasts/youtube, so bass is probably not as important.

Agree with that! came from a One Plus One and I'm very happy (Though I REALLY miss double tap to wake, I'm gradually learning to love the rear fingerprint sensor). The main bonus for me is the battery life - 6 hours of SOT consistently even with heavy usage and no longer having to worry about where the nearest charger is. Not sure I will ever be able to go back to a smaller battery now, however good the optimisation.

Did yours also come with the 3.5mm jack convertor gonzo?
I assumed since I didn't get the protective covers that the UK version got the 3.5mm convertor instead.
I got the phone for £30 cheaper than current retail price so I'm not too worried, but it's annoying if they should have been in the box.

Yes, I got the 3.5mm converter as well - guess I was lucky - though you had me worrying and double checking that the protector was actually on there
Mine was the BLA-009 Single Sim variant - I believe Vodafone are selling a different version, but every unboxing I've seen online seems to come with the case and protector.
Ok.
Well they must have just forgotten to put mine in the box.

Nope the Vodafone version is the same model
the screen protector is already on the phone and the case in the bottom where the manuals are, if you got neither of these then take it back and get replacement. Was the box actually open when you got it?
i used the case that came with the phone for a few days until my replacement arrived. i got the huawei smartcase for it, which lets you see incoming calls, alarms, time, step counter down the side of the screen (u can answer/end calls or disable the alarms without opening the case.
Audio not really seen an issue, but have bad hearing anyway, overall very happy with the phone and using emui compared to my usual launcher which is nova
I'm in the UK and got all the cables, the screen protector was already on the device and I also got the gel case. If yours didn't include these then take it back and get a replacement as either they forgot to put it in your box or something else is going on.
