Caution: WM6/6.1 ROM does not Sync with Exchange SSL - P3400 ROM Development

The WM6 / 6.1 ROM available online will not allow syncing of mail, contacts, calendar, etc with Exchange SSL. Seems to be related to installed certificates / security config of ROM.
So if these things are important to you (this is the main reason I have a PDA), you should consider waiting for a Gene WM6 that does not have this serious shortcoming.
I wasted a lot of time trying to get this release to work - so have other people. It is only fair that persons downloading this ROM know about this problem before they also waste their time.

Tried latest WM6.1 ROM - Still does not work :-(
Still getting activesync error 80072F06.

Any Workaround?
So, there's no way to work around this? I just bought a brand-new HTC Touch Cruise and the preinstalled ROM is having this SSL certificate issue, so I can't synchronize. Downgrading is not an option for me, since there are no older ROMs available for this model.
What to do?

Has anyone fix the sync problems with secured Exchange?
I have actually tried all the 6.1 ROMS and none of them sync with Exchange Server over a secured link.
No problem when I revert to WM5.

The problem seemed to be related to IMAP for us. Here is what we did:
- Enable the MS Exchange IMAP service (we had disabled it)
- In Exchange System Manager, under the server in Protocols, go into "IMAP4" properties, and in the Access tab click the Certifcate... button and add in the same certificate that is configured for the HTTPS website.
- Open port 993 (IMAP4 SSL) in our firewall to our Exchange server.
We don't know what combination of the 3 is the actual fix, but we know that WM6.1 Exchange email items were failing miserably to sync before, and now they are syncing again.

8525 Lost ability to use Push??

I am really puzzled by this one. I have been using the Cooked Official Hermes Mobile 6 for Cingular / ATT rom for a few months now with no problem. Just last night I lost my Outlook Inbox in my list of mailboxes. After looking a little deeper it appears that I cannot use direct push anymore. I have tried clearing memory and reloading the ROM onto the phone.
The very first time the phone comes up after running the AT&T cab packages, I set up the server sync options. While it is doing its initial sync I can quickly go into the Schedule setting ans it is set for As Items Arrive.
Here is the problem...
As soon as it finishes the first sync, grabs contacts, mail, calendar, and tasks. I go back into Schedule and it is defaulted to Manual, and the option for as items arrive is no longer there. If I go into comm manager there is an x through the Direct Push icon, I can enable it, close comm manager, attempt to sync again, go back to comm manager and it has an x through it again????
This one is killing me here. I know the server is set right as we have 10 total phones at my company that are all setup for direct push, they are working correctly, just not mine. Granted my phone is the only one running mobile 6. But it has worked flawlessly for months, even before the "official" rom. I have tried Schaps latest version but the problem seemed the same. Is there a problem with the phone outside of the rom image?? Something that needs to be reset? Please, I need some help with this! I don't want to switch back to my 3125, noooooooooooooooooo!!
Thanks in advance for your help!
Edit...
Still don't have it working but... Couple of things, Calendar, Tasks, and Contacts are working just fine. Subfolders in my Exchange mailbox are working ok. But i am still unable to select "As Items Arrive" or keep the Microsoft Direct Push button in Comm manager enabled. Again any thoughts would be very helpful. I am a network admin with direct control over my exchange server. Tonight I am going to fire up my 3125 and pop in my sim and I would imagine that things should work just fine. The part that boggles me is even with a fresh rom flash or with multiple roms the problem still exists?? I don't know if any of you out there are Exchange Admins too, but could it be something on the server side of things? Thanks again everyone for taking the time to read this!
direct push
a good test to eliminate phone vs. exchange would be in your web browser goto IP address of server + forward slash OMA (Outlook Mobile Access) i.e. www.domain.com/oma
this should open a login prompt, put your active directory credentials in there and click ok. If this works then your server is good...
An excellent troubleshooting step! Unfortunately I have tried that, and it did work correctly! I have reverted to my 3125 for the moment. All works well with that phone. 8-( Sooo, my exchange account is fine, my sim / AT&T account is working properly. I guess somehow the phone was corrupted?? Is it maybe worth reverting back to WM 5.0, and then bringing it back up to 6.0? Thanks for taking the time to help!!

Can you use Verizon's sync server with DCD's Custom ROM?

The way my XV-6800 is set up is that I'm using the new stock Verizon Rom on my device (upgraded from 6.0) and I get my e-mail pushed through Verizon's Wireless Sync service everytime I get an e-mail on this account (personal Yahoo account).
I've been having issues with this device and I'm swapping this unit tomorrow so I'll be back to 6.0 again.
I'm thinking of running DCD's Rom instead but need to know if I can get my e-mail through Verizon's Wireless Sync like I do now. Is this something that is added when the Verizon's customizations run or is it provisioned for in DCD's Rom?
Thanks!
Are you using activesync to sync your yahoo account (IMAP or POP) or are you using that Verizon VZW sync program on your phone? If you are using the VZW program you will either need to find it on the CD and reinstall it to the phone after you upgrade to DCD. If you are using activesync then there will be no change to what you do now.
all you need is the wireless sync software. Theres some website you go to on your phone to get the wireless sync software but i forget the site. it's an offical vzw site though
VZW wireless sync sw can be found here:
http://ota.wsync.com/
I suggest using the UC script to install with any other customizations. That's the way I do it anyway. GL.
Why would you use VZW's software to sync your yahoo account? just put it in outlook mobile and connect that way
you can use it to save your contacts and everything else and access them off wirelesssync.com i used to use it before i switched to their 29.99 plan and started using my works exchange server
I need to do this
I need to set this up again, my company has their exchange server set-up to push down a requirement of a strong password on a non corporate PPC that is set to lock down the phone after 15 minutes. The pass has to be at least 7 characters and contain one each of upper case, lower case, number and special character ([email protected]$%). It's a pain, I need to re-flash anyway to get my com manager back. No time like the present. Think I might try a PPCGeeks kitchen, just to see if it's any good.
Activesync caches the password if you tell it to, so why would you care if its 7 character alphanumeric with special chars?

Exchange and PIM Questions

Can you create repeating Tasks with alarms? Can you assign categories to Contacts, Appointiments, and Tasks. Can all this information sync correctly and directly with an Exchange server?
Exchange Support
My question too, my boss just got one today, and I have to set it up to sync to our exchange server. Has anyone been able to do this successfully?
Well it depends...
If you need a security certificate there might be a slight problem. You'll need to contact the admin of the exchange server and have him approve the phone. I never got that far with my sysadm - I just got a blank "no"!
So I searched for an alternative and came up with two apps that'll do the job:
-Touchdown - didn't work with my mail, but got the contacts and the calendar.
-RoadSync - works beautifully, but has issues with contacts. It's still beta and free for another month so they might come up with a fix before the full version airs.
Get'em both in Market.
Mobile-Review has an in-depth review of the Hero, and a two-part look at Android (the Hero is the first Android device in Russia).
There's bound to be some answers to what the PIM apps can do and what not.
The text translates pretty good in google translate! Take a look:

I believe that a security certificate will not be a problem for me. I have an account on a hosted exchange service, thru Sherweb, for my personal use.
Outlook 2007
I'd like to ask if it is possible to synchronize directly with Outlook 2007 (cable or bluetooth), thanks and sorry for my english

MS Exchange problems

Got a strange problem with my new T-Mobile G2 (HTC Hero) ...
If I try setting up & syncing my Exchange email I get all sorts of error messages ranging from username/password incorrect (when I know it isn't) to a long winded one "Your Microsoft Exchange Server account does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server administrator" ...
Previously the same Exchange server (2010) was used to sync email via the MS Exchange application on an iPhone and also a XDA.
I'm guessing there is a bug or anomaly with the Exchange application on the T-Mobile rom (it incidentally came shipped with the latest 2.73.110.26 October rom) as I downloaded and successfully set-up/synced my email using the TouchDown v4.0.0008 application - and also using another Exchange application (Contacts Sync) from Wryke.
I've spoken to the Server admin, who has done what he can, but he's thinking (as I am) that there is a problem with the built in app ...
Oh, and am I right in thinking that because it has come shipped with the latest (2.73.110.26) rom then I can't flash a custom rom at this time ?
Anyone have any suggestions ?
Cheers

I had the same issue yesterday when I forgot to check the box "This server requires an encrypted SSL connection". I've never had to check this box before when we ran Exchange 2007 but we moved to Exchanged 2010 yesterday just before a reset the exchange account on my Hero.
Give it a try, it may work

exchange 2010 + htc hero - which settings ?
I was wondering, which settings do you have on your exchange 2010 server ?
On exchange 2003 it worked flawlessly (almost), but on exchange 2010 I keep getting the "failed to create account..".
Initial login seems to work fine, but after selecting what to sync it fails.
I dont have a paid SSL certificate, only a self-signed one, but I dont imagine that causing too many problems (or am I wrong?).
Any help appreciated
Hello,
Does anyone know what to change to resolve this? I still have this issue whether or not the SSL box is checked.
If you are using an internal certificate, try copying certificate to SD and installing, also if you are still running hero 1.5 you must make sure exchange 2010 servers mobile settings are configured to allow "unsupported devices" you may also have to disable password policy just for your phone on the server
I know this is a really old thread, but you might try checking to see if your password is about to expire. In my case I got this error and it was because my password was about to expire (the Windows AD notifies you when you log into a Windows PC on the AD domain). Once I changed my password everything started working again. I guess this is technically a bug with Android because Android should be able to tell you that instead of saying that you're unauthorized.

MOTOBLUR CorporateSync causes Outlook to Crash

First off, I'd like to say that I've been a long-time follower of XDA and a hard-core HTC/WindowsMobile fan, the learning curve to move to an Android based device has been rather steep at times but enjoyable.. With that said, the Atrix is a solid piece of hardware and I'm warming up to Android pretty quick. =)
Anyhow, since I can no longer synchronize my contacts and calendar items to my phone via USB, I informed my Boss that due to the huge push in 'to the cloud' synchronization none of the newer cell phones on the market allow synchronize via USB and that almost 75% of our technical support team was now without the ability to synchronize our service calls for the day to our mobile devices and that we needed to move to a Microsoft Exchange Server so that we could utilize ActiveSync. He laughed at me, and then said go for it. (Woohoo!)
So, I spent the better part of my weekend deploying a Microsoft Exchange Server (Exchange 2010) and am currently the process of setting up all the users/distribution lists/etc so that we can cut-over to it next week. I have had my Exchange account configured in Outlook 2007 since Sunday night and everything has been working fine, I am still IMAP'ing my work email but Outlook has been doing its normal exchange synchronization things in the background. I couldn't get my Atrix to sync, but I assumed it was because I didn't have the UC SSL Certificate installed as Outlook wouldn't sync over the air either..
Last night (3/15) I finally got the new UC SSL Certificate installed on the Exchange server, and installed the RootCert (Generated my own RootCert, and signed the request from Exchange) on my Laptop and my Atrix. I still couldn't establish a connection though, so I spent a couple of hours pouring over search results. (notice my ultra low post count?!, I know how to use the search function!) I tried the 'remove activesync mobile device policy' fix, the 'side-loading email app pulled from an android 2.2 vdk?' fix, and then finally came across a post on a Microsoft forum about inheritable active directory permissions. Basically as a member of the 'Domain Admins' group my domain account was not inheriting the appropriate permissions from active directory to allow my account to create the active-sync object.. Here's where I actually get on topic, and this get's interesting...
Less than 5 minutes after the first successful sync from my Atrix to the Exchange server Outlook 2007 crashed on my laptop and wouldn't re-open; I spent the better part of today troubleshooting this issue, (removed and re-created my profile, rebuilt my user profile, removed Outlook 2007, installed Outlook 2010, and removed and re-created my exchange mailbox) and in the end the issue definitely seems to be caused by the Atrix. If I remove the ActiveSync connection to my Atrix from the exchange server, Outlook opens fine and works without a hitch, as soon as I re-establish the connection Outlook crashes. =(
Anyone ran into this? Anyone else using an Atrix on Exchange 2010 w/ SP1?
...v
My work uses GoodLink for this. "Good" software to run with your exchange server. Multi-platform and high security. A pain in the butt when switching ROMs though. My IT dept must hate me because I always open tickets to get access to it. I'm sure it's not cheap, but just throwing it out there.
