Titan unresponsive using DCD's 3.01 or 3.04 - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I find that my Sprint titan is, at times, very unresponsive. Usually it will happen after having not used it for a few hours. After I wake the phone up, I'll notice that most tasks require multiple inputs before sensing the touch. (ie: if I wanna open the start menu I might have to touch it 3-6 times before the phone opens the start menu) It is not just the touch screen; the buttons are just as unresponsive when the issue is present. After a about a minute or two of use while I'm having this issue the phone will become more and more unresponsive, finally I might have to press an item 10-20 times before the phone opens it. At that point I need to reset the phone in order to restore normal functionality.
This used to happen to me using DCD 3.01 and I hoped it would not happen on the newer 3.04 but same issue remains.
Something that is unique to my situation is that I'm in the US navy and currently deployed, thus my titan will never get a signal. Being that I can't find anyone else with this problem it leads me to think that it might be related to never having a cell signal as most people who change their ROM probably are on the network.

Just to let you know, I have had this problem. I think I limited it down to IM+. With just the included applications running, this did not occur.

I've never used IM+

I'd suggest that both of you list ALL apps that you added to the ROM.... That way we can cross reference what you both have in common when the issue happens, and can eliminate OEM's one at a time....

I didn't add anything to the roms. Just donwloaded the rom and flashed it.
I installed Mortplayer and HTC home 2.0 + HTC home customizer 1.0. Those are the only two programs I have on my titan.

Then it could be HTC home. I found what specifically lags me about IM+ is the home screen plugin. Try disabling the HTC home screen plugin.

I'm having this same problem. It started after updating to the new Rev A/GPS Rom from Sprint. I've just recently noticed that when the device becomes unresponsive, the signal strength icon is showing data transfer. The device is acting like it is becoming bogged down while sending or receiving a large amount of data. The last time it became unresponsive, I hit the Com manager button, triggered airplane mode (thereby killing the data connection), and the device instantly became responsive again.
The only thing I have running in the background is Outlook which is checking my Gmail every 15 minutes.
I do have HTC home and Home Customizer on it though. Anyone seeing a pattern here??? I do not use IM.
I ran across Spybot Search & Destroy for WinMo standard and PPC last night. was thinking of installing it and see if it discovers any possible malware. I highly doubt it though since I never surf to unknown websites or open unknown mail.
I should also say that I did make some reg edits for better power management. But they were done with the previous Sprint Rom AND after the new Sprint Rom was installed. Never had a problem when running the previous Sprint Rom.
Anyone else noticing this happening when data seems to be transferring? Anyone try disabling the HTC home and Home Customizer?

HTC Home is a huge memory leak, the worst of any PPC application I've ever run
it dumps tons of useless info to the kernel log which may be the cause
I would suggest rltoday, there are htc home clone themes available

Thanks so much for the info DCD!! Checking out rltoday right now. Possibilities look endless.

I'm bumping this thread because I have the same problem all the time. The issue appeared on No2Chem's ROMs and DCD's roms. I have many programs installed, but it sounds like this occurs even with no programs installed. Did anyone figure out a fix for this?
It is quite annoying to find my phone randomly very unresponsive to any key press (touch screen or hard buttons).
By the way, could it be our radios? I'm using 3.42.30.

Interesting - I've been a user of DCD roms since pre-3.01 on my XV6800 and have never had any problems. After installing 3.3.4, however, I did experience these exact same symptoms. I tried removing applications, today plugins, etc., but the issue persisted. As a last resort, figuring it was just some incompatibility with my configuration and not the rom, I rolled back to 3.2.6 and all has been fine so far.

Help!!! Random freezes

I am experiencing random lock ups and freezes. It happens especially when I receive texts and incoming calls after about 30 minutes of no use. WiFi does not work either. It is very annoying and frustrating as I lose the text or miss the call. I have to reset the phone to get it working again. Sometimes it takes several resets.
EDIT: Other random tidbit...after playing with the phone a bit more, I have found that the phone functions perfectly when plugged into the power outlet-WiFi, texting, incoming calls...Maybe it has something to do with the power settings when not plugged in?
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Does anyone have a guess at what might be the problem?
I am running:
SPL 2.47
2.42.50 radio
DCD Custom 3.2.6
I have never had this problem until about a week ago. I am wondering if it is a hardware issue as I have tried re-flashing several times. It will work well for a few hours then act up again. I am thinking about relocking my phone and taking it in for service, but that is a last resort.
Thanks in advance for any help.
same thing happened to me. It started ever since i switch out for a new battery though. I seriously think it's my battery that causes these random freezes.
hmmm...it does seem to be a battery issue as it works while plugged in. Is there any way to reset the battery somehow?
Freezes here too
I've had my phone freeze twice in the last two days. Yesterday at work, connected via activesync, when I disconnected the screen wouldn't come on. Then today I was connected to the wall charger, disconnected and the screen wouldn't come on again. Had to remove the battery both times to get the phone working again.
My experiences
When the 6800 came out I liked it so much that I hooked my entire family up with one and I have seen more problems than a lot of people. I just thought I would share some of the freezing problems I've seen and what I've dont to replace them. And if the device is not freezing when it is plugged into the wall is the screen off like in idle, or is it real dim and still up? And one great thing you can do to reduce daytime freezes is to leave the device off at night when you charge it (if you can stand to do that), or at least soft reset when you grab it to start the day.
1) The most common reason for lock ups that I've seen is memory drain. It is caused from programs you've installed that continually run in the background. The biggest killer is recieving calls when the phone has been sitting at idle too long or trying to run activesync or an internet browser.
Fix: You can try to go back and remove the programs that you've recently installed till you lack this problem, but the ultimate fix is to hard reset.
2) Some registry edits have poor efects on the way the phone performs and this is when it seems everything is good, you are keeping the memory clear with a task manager, yet it still freezes in the middle of doing something.
Fix: Every titan seems to act a little differently than others. The only time I hack the registry is when one of my family members phone is having an issue, or when I get bored and I want to mess around with my own's performance. The remedy for this is installing the stock carrier rom and then moving to a rom of your choice. Read the posts too. Make sure the radio is compatible with the rom. Trust me in this forum you can find anything.
3) Memory boosting software like memaid or oxios close apps are great, however, with some programs they interfeer with each other and cause problems.
Fix: Forget this memory programs. Find a rom with good memory management.
Animez: That is how mine started...now it does it at least 6 times a day.
Sweeny: Thank you for your detailed response. I do not think it is memory drain as I use x-button and maintain my task manager quite frequently. I have not made any registry edits except for the DCD kitchen (3.2.6), arcsoft, and carrier cab I have installed...
Question: Does the registry get wiped on a reflash or do I need to hard reset to wipe the registry? I don't really trust myself all that much fiddling with the registry unless I know what all the strings do.

A hard reset or rom flash will wipe your registry since it's included in the new rom and also stored in the hard reset rom. So if you screw it up, worse case you hard reset, or reflash with a new rom/same rom, doesn't matter.
You can also back up your phone prior to making any changes, and if you screw up, hard reset and then restore the backup.

[Q] Wi-Fi turn on, on every boot

On my Leo I always used stock ROM's, until the weekend when I tried Artemis.
This introduced a bug where the Wi-Fi would turn on every boot, and the first run wizard would show for a second on shut-down, implying it was running in the background. Waited for new Artemis and it sill did it...and now I've just installed the latest stock (1.66.405.2) and it STILL does it.
Is this the kind of weird bug MTTY is meant to fix? Want to check before I take the plunge
On an aside I cant remove Hard SPL, but that doesn't bother me, just might be related?
Cheers

Ive seen something simpliar once after a flash, not exactly sure, BUT, if you try disabling sense on the today screen, you may see the wizard running on top of windows mobile but behind the manila front end, and finish it so it stops showing.
settings - menu - all settings - home - items tab - scroll down and untick HTC sense.
Thanks man, didn't try that method I sort of fell into the solution.
Went into wireless controls to do my phone settings, my finger slipped to air plane mode...cursing I waited patiently for the connections to go and suddenly voilĂ , there was the first run wizard in front of me :O
I also emailed HTC at the same time as posting this thread and they said to remove the SIM on boot to see it, which I assume is linked to the air plane mode again in some way, as their effectively the same thing.
Also explains why I saw it for a sec on shut down, as it terminated my connections, up it popped.
Morale of the story, the first run wizard will only appear when you have no SIM in!
(apparently)

[Q] I have several issues with this device - do you have any ideas?

Hi there,
I'm one of the lucky persons who already got their HTC Mozart 7
While I'm really enjoying this device and the features it offers, I wonder how some of the bugs or problems could slip past a decent QA...
I'm currently experiencing these problems (and some more, which are not as frustrating):
I've added my recent experiences in dark red so that you can get my results so far without reading through the thread
The device has to be restarted every 24 hours or so because it just ceases to function. I know it's time for a restart when opening any application (regardless of marketplace, music player, ...) just shows a loading screen and then returns to the main menu.
After getting my replacement Mozart - and not using the alarm application at all - this problem is gone. I can now use it for 4 days straight without the need to reboot or the sound ceasing to function.
The alarm clock is not able to use any 3rd party files. While this alone is no problem, it also misses a decent sound for waking you up. Everybody who possessed a HTC Windows Mobile device might know about those real horror wake up sounds that made you stand up and shut the device up within seconds. Now the new sounds are nice to listen to but those don't really wake you up as effectively... The real fun begins when you lie there for several minutes in some kind of delirium, fighting with yourself whether to stand up or not. The alarm clock simply closes after some (much too few!!) minutes and ASKS you whether you want to sound the alarm again...
My real problem with the alarm clock however is the volume. Normal alarm clocks (I used Windows Mobile in conjunction with GAlarm and I have used Android with several clocks) set the volume to a preconfigured level when sounding the alarm. The Windows Phone alarm clock doesn't... Which makes it effectively mute if you happened to set your phone to mute during the day and having forgotten about it in the evening.
The next problem is that my Bluetooth A2DP Headset (which worked flawlessly on Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5) somehow can't use its buttons. Each button press is simply ignored for whatever reason, forcing me to take out the phone each time I want to accept a call...
I also noticed that the music skips if the battery is running low. If you use a high quality source file (e.g. MP3 at 320 kb/s) which normally plays fine, it starts to skip / scramble every few seconds if the battery is running low. Running low means that the phone is about to display the warning to charge it or has already displayed it.
For some odd reason, I can't search my songs. If you browse your albums / artists / songs then these are sorted alphabetically and you should be able to jump directly to a letter when pressing on the square (just like in the contact view). Well, although my contact view works, pressing any letter here displays the whole alphabet (like in the contacts) but all letters are grey, meaning that there is no song / artist / album starting with this letter. Do I need to state that there in fact are items there that start with a letter?
This problem is purely related to the German language. I set my Mozart to English - just for the purpose of trying - and this feature is there and works perfectly... So just going to Settings and setting the language to English solved this problem. Which somehow makes you wonder how Q&A could miss that.
Do you know any solutions to these problems?

I had the same issue, except that it happened in 3 to 4minutes of use, the phone became unusable... It rebooted itself automatically a li'll bit after that.
Orange gave me a new one, it's now 2week without restarting it and everythings run fine. There must be some kind of memory leaks somewhere...

This is my guess too.
For that reason I have not yet tried to get a replacement (aside from losing all my data currently stored on the phone) - because a new phone will probably have the same memory leak, if it is one at all.
I'm currently waiting for an update which I hope will be released soon (with several newer versions already floating around). However, I do not know whether this will fix the problem...
So does anyone have any hints which application may be causing it?
Or does anyone have ideas regarding the other problems?

Hi all
I have only ever had one "crash" with my HTC 7 Mozart. When it did crash, the phone became totally unstable and I had to reinstall some of my applications.
I believe that the issue may be with the fact that HTC are using microSD memory cards inserted into internal sockets, rather than transflash memory chips soldered onto boards.
WP7 seems to fail dramatically if there are any I/O errors and if an internal MicroSD card is not seated correctly into its socket, this could happen quite often.
I think that is the reason why some users are getting this problem.
So, I've had my phone for a couple of weeks and only the one crash/restart. If you are experiencing any more than that then I think your device is faulty and that you should get a replacement.
Cheers

I really think that it's an hardware problem since I got my replacement.
Ok, but seeing that there currently is no application to backup my SMSes, I'm not willing to get a replacement...
Is there any way (yet) to flash the ROM or reflash it with the same version?
I'm still thinking that it might be a software problem because the phone is working almost perfectly beside the problems mentioned above and several really small issues. If it would be a hardware failure, I think the problems would occur more often - like every few minutes. But they only occur after about 24 hours (of which about 4 to 6 hours are heavy usage)...
Do you experience the other problems (besides the reboot) too?
Well, I never tried the alarm clock, I know it won't be loud enough to be usefull, I don't use any bluetooth handset, my battery is never low.
And I must thank you for browsing the song, I didn't even know that we could do that... It's working fine on my Mozart.
Mines all fine
I've had my Mozart now for quite a few weeks and not had any crashes at all.
My Bluetooth headset (Sony Ericcson DS205) works perfectly something it did not do with my HD2 & win os 6.5.x. I can accept calls, change volume, pause, change songs all with it flawlessly.
My alarm is waking me up fine.

same here mine has been working flawlessly since 1st of november i think i have only switched it off 3 times
never crashed was switched of because i was in church or and my Jabra bluetooth works fine all buttons too
i also need to reboot it all 1 to 2 days.
and the letters in zune are grayed out, too.
but all togheter i'm very satisfied
Well, I gave my device to the shop for repairs.
It should have been back today, but for some odd reason it wasn't...
So I'm still running around with an old Sony Ericsson and am hoping that my Mozart returns soon
I'll keep you posted whether the bug is gone.
(I was satisfied with the phone too, but I'm relying on it as an alarm clock and therefore need it to be 100% stable. The second problem, which made me return it for repairs was that I had three freezes within one day. I don't know how this could happen but it decided to repeat the procedure that it went through on a daily basis within a few hours...)
Hi there,
I got my phone back on Friday (after it should have been back on Wednesday and then on Thurdsday...) - well, better late than never.
But I've been one of the lucky persons to get a device with a stuck pixel (a green dot on black screens)...
However, regarding my initial problems:
- the freeze bug is almost gone (I had to reset it today after using the phone since Friday without a single freeze). This time I guess there is a memory leak - the device was getting slower in the morning and then suddenly denied to open the Zune application (just jumping back to the main menu). However, I can live with a reboot every week or so (if it stays at that).
- the Zune jump-to-letter feature (like press a and get the list of all letters, to jump to a track, album, ...) still does not work.
- I have not heard any sound skipping yet - so this might be solved.
- I decided to use my old mobile phone as an alarm clock (HTC Diamond - I've bought GAlarm for it and would hate to have spent the money for nothing). The freezing bug related to the alarm clock is something I don't want to risk - especially since I rely on my alarm clock to get up in the morning for work... (which might have also caused the 24 hour reboot)
To conclude this:
I could have done without replacing my phone (and losing all my SMSs -.-). Windows Phone 7 seems to have some issues at this moment, especially regarding the alarm clock, which I really hope will be fixed in the near future.
//Small edit:
After setting the device language to English (I'm German and have therefore used German as the device language), the jump-to-letter feature magically started to work in Zune.
I've updated the first post to reflect my results / findings .
Feel free to comment.

[Q] Random strange things happening

Ok so I want to convey all the relevant information without this being a mile long.
I have a o2 UK SGS2 running on a 3 sim. I have flashed on Lite'ing 6.1 with ninphetmaine 2.0.5. Up until the following, everything has been 100%.
This morning I downloaded Destinia and played it for a while. Before quitting I took a quick look at in app purchases to see if they charge ridiculous prices (they do). I'm not interested so I quickly spam back to close everything. This is when **** ****s up. OS becomes unresponsive immediately and I have no choice but to pull the battery. (power menu disappears instantly, no registered actions from soft keys or menu button in OS). No change on reboot.
I try reflashing Lite'ning. Mostly no change but I got the chance to get into task manager and uninstall Destinia/Launcher Pro.
I reinstall launcher pro, and now it works most of the time except:
1. Quite frequently the voice action app will load itself, and the unlock notification will pop up.
2. MTP notification will appear occasionally and phone will act like it's plugged in
3. Random Launcher/OS crashes. Sometimes screen on but no response from apps or OS. Sometimes screen won't turn on at all, just softkeys and darkness.
4. at first unlock after boot, camera makes standard focusing sound.
5. on boot, little popup dialog will read "in app purchases not supported in this version of android".
Really I doubt there's going to be any solution other than "wipe and reflash" but I'm really interested if anyone knows what would cause all these problems.
Cheers

what this means is that pressed back from the game's in app purchases screen, back to the main menu and then back to the Launcher, I'm sure everyone has done basically this countless times.
Fine but my dictionary defines spam as a different meaning .
But as posted that's where it all went wrong for whatever reason .

Right I wipe-flashed stock 2.3.5 and it's STILL doing this. Voice actions popping up at random, all sorts of apps crashing and hanging all the time.
This has to be a hardware problem now, right?
just a stab in the dark but run a virus check.
I've never had a virus in my life, but I checked anyway and nothing.
Right so I've been watching my phone today. It's still doing random voice action popups. If I leave the phone on standard standby it will be fine for a while. It will then randomly turn on the screen by itself. The screen will stay on, if i leave it long enough the whole thing become totally unresponsive. If I press power the phone will wait a few seconds, then restart. If I don't touch it, it will just restart on its own eventually.
Can anyone recommend at least, some logging software that will let me look at the underlying OS and see what's happening when this is going on.
Is there any possibility your phone also goes to car-mode by itself?
spare parts app??
Your phone is more or less doing the same thing as mine is. It's a hardware issue from the seems of it. The voice command thing is from a dirty pin in the USB connector part which apparently isn't that hard to clean, for users in the thread below it actually helped to solve the issue. But my persisting issue is the unresponsive screen and power button causing an active screen to dim out and making the screen unresponsive..

Im getting random voice talk and mtp etc. phone is all ovr the place. flashed litening and nimphet last week and seemed fine. used mhl hdmi cable and problems seemed to start from there.

Read your thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278790 and your problems are down to the letter the same. I've resigned myself to it being a hardware fault and put in a service request with samsung. Wish I had better news.
Yea me too. My issue is that my SGSII was manufactured in UK so I'm at odds seeing as how I'm in America. The people at the Samsung call center referred me to the UK number so I guess I will have to bits the bullet.

[Q] Couple Amaze Problems

Howdy! I peruse the forums quite a bit to figure out little fixes for my phone, but there are a couple problems that I haven't quite been able to find proper solutions for.
The first problem deals with the phone randomly shutting down (usually only when it's in my pocket). I've seen other posts regarding the topic, but the OPs usually stated that simply holding the power button would effectively turn the phone back on, or that the phone doesn't shutdown but rather reboots. My phone completely shuts down and requires that I take the battery out, wait 10-15 seconds, put it back in, and then hold the power button for an extended period of time in order for the phone to start up. The battery doesn't get extremely hot. It's usually around ~33-35C when it does this, but when I look at some of the other posts with similar problems, their batteries are ranging withing ~38-42C. I have seen that it may be a faulty battery, as shown in the other posts, but as I mentioned my problem is slightly different.
The second problem deals with streaming videos on browsers. Before the ICS update, I was able to stream videos on any browser, but after that OTA update I cannot. I have tried multiple browsers, including Dolphin, Firefox (my main browser), and Opera. I heard it may have to do with flash not supporting android anymore (after 4.0.x, whereas I'm only running 4.0.3), but I have checked my phone and I have Flash 11.1 already installed. The settings on my browsers are to enable plug-ins on tap (means that I would tap a video to start it, right?).
Lastly, as of now, I'm having a WiFi issue. It's not so much of an issue as a hindrance, though. Basically, I'm pretty much always in a WiFi zone, either being at home or on campus. When I get home from uni, WiFi automatically connects, no problem. When I'm at the uni, it will connect as soon as I get on campus, but when I walk from building to building, it loses connection and makes me reconnect. I go to hit reconnect, and it demands some credential password which I have never set. If I hit forget so that I can forget and reconnect to the network, it wants me to put in my screen unlock pattern. I draw the pattern to unlock it, but then it sort of refreshes and my pattern is gone and it doesn't let me continue with the process, so I have to go back to the home screen, back into settings, and clear credentials. Some posts said to continue to input incorrect passwords to allow a credential storage password reset, but that did not work. Some posts said to clear credentials, so I do that, but then I have to continuously type my login information whenever I move from class to class, which gets pretty irritating. The only way to connect to the WiFi is by disabling and reenabling the WiFi. Like I said, it's not a huge issue, rather a hindrance.
As for my phone specs, I'm not really a super tech so I haven't messed with anything. The phone is not rooted and is running Android 4.0.3. It is, however, unlocked, and I'm running it on ATT's network if that makes a difference.
Let me know if I've posted in the wrong section or anything, and if I have, I apologize. I'm not one for posting on forums, rather one to creep around and hopefully find solutions.
Thanks for your time.
Hi there.
I also want to join this topic:
1. my HTC amaze also shuts down randomly.
2. but the main thing is: can anybody help me with this WiFi issue? I can connect and use WiFi in the street, at McDonald's, at different places with public WiFi, but when it comes to connect to WiFi at my home or at other places where the WiFi is PASSWORD PROTECTED, my phone jams the network and i have to turn off WiFi on the phone and restart the WiFi router to have everything working again.
Somebody, please help
thanks in advance.

Since you are stock, the only thing being that your phone is unlocked, I would say this is either a config issue or a HW issue. The simplest thing to do is to clean the battery contacts, as there is a small chance that something got on them and is causing the battery to drop out. You can also look at the battery meter in the settings menu and see if you have a sudden drop in battery power or if it entirely cuts out. May give some clues to what's going on. Finally the only other thing I can think of is to uninstall any apps that save power or mess with the power settings on the phone.

Streaming video doesn't work for me, it will for a couple seconds and then die. So now I just open all links in the youtube app, which isn't perfect but it's good enough.

This has got to be either a config issue or a bug in how your phone handles your uni's wifi. Your uni will have multiple wifi APs with the same SSID (but on different channels) so that you can walk around and still remain connected. My guess is that there is a bug in the wifi drivers that don't like what your uni is doing, but it's really hard to say since that stuff is generally pretty complicated...
If you can't get your power issue fixed easily I would recommend you factory reset your phone. Don't install any apps for a couple days and see if your problems persist. If the power one does then take your phone in for warranty repair. The wifi one could be a bug, which would mean a warranty repair isn't going to do anything for that so you may be screwed on that one. Unless you want to hack your phone and load a new ROM; there is a slim chance that an updated ROM will not have the same bug.

Thank you very much for the in depth reply. I'll take a look at the battery connections some time tomorrow as it's pretty late today. Do you have any recommendations as what to clean them with? I heard erasers are pretty good cause they have the "stickiness" to pick up grime, but wouldn't the rubber inhibit connectability?
The video thing isn't too big of an issue, but eh, a fix would be nice. If there's nothing that's known of atm, that is fine as well.
As for the WiFi, I didn't know if it was a bug or something I could fix internally. It's good to know, though, that it's not something I seem to have messed up myself haha.
Once again, I greatly appreciate the response!

The contacts won't be corroded because they are gold, however it could be either they aren't springy (ie they got bent) or that something is stuck on them. Just take a look, make sure they look fine and that they are making a good connection. It's most likely not the issue but you just want to rule that out, as it would obviously cause problems if your battery was being disconnected
So, as an update, I managed to fix the battery issue by actually turning my phone around in my pocket (Strangely enough, I found that if I keep the screen away from the leg and the power button facing up, rather than the screen towards my leg, the phone does not turn off.). All that's left is to find a fix for the video and WiFi. The WiFi problem has actually started to become more significant, as WiFi is no longer automatically connecting to my home internet anymore. Sometimes at uni, as well, the phone requires a complete reboot before it will reconnect rather than a WiFi off -> WiFi on reset. Any more input would be greatly appreciated ^.^
I had same restart Issue
I don't know why or how it works.
Just put a piece of paper below the battery and the restart problem is solved
Flash a kernel and see maybe the modules are messed up
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Battery
I don't know why changing how the phone is situated in your pocket would solve the issue unless you were somehow unknowingly keeping the power button pressed down for long periods of time.
I will say I had the same issue and my suspicions lead me to the battery. Indeed, I bought a new battery and the issue has been resolved. There must have been some sort of short or default in the battery I was using that would cause my phone to randomly shut down or reboot..
