Hi everbody, I'd like to know whether it is possible or not to extend the memory of my Polaris with micro SDHC card or only micro SD??!!
Thanks

Yes, the Polaris is compatible with microSDHC. I as well as many others are using 8GB microSDHC cards. Many people have asked this question, and its also listed in many online spec sheets as well as in the manual.

I can confirm the polaris WILL work with the MICRO SDHC because I'm using the 6gb SDHC. I heard it's capable of 32gb maximum.

16GB cards are on their way!

I am more interested in a MicroSD 8Gb Class 6 instead of 16Gb Class 4.

Polaris specs from HTC:
"Expansion Slot microSD™ memory card (SD 2.0 compatible)"
SD 2.0 = SDHC
Specification of SD define max 32GB

SDHC
Hi,
No problems, I use Sandisk 8GB microSDHC wit my Touch Cruise.
Yosi

I use a Sandisk 8g SDHC, class 4, and goes pretty well!!!

do have you view a real difference of speed (program run, take photo, Tomtom navigate) on a SDHC class 4 and a SDHC class 6 ?
(sorry for my english)

I haven't seen any Class6 of 8 Gb MicroSDHC (maybe there is no one??). If i'm right 16gb microsdhc will be available in stores only from december

I don't have experience with changing to a class 6 card, I do have changing from a none classed micro sd to a class 4 micro sdhc card.
I noticed a performance boost specially in loading tomtom.

there will be no ANY differrence betwen class4 and 6 in phone
huge difference will be visible only in data coping on computer using card reader
fast memory cards were doveloped for cameras and other devices with fast readers - our phones are far from this

view this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2590710#post2590710
The "class number" is for "speed write" and not "speed read".
An application that read data (map,photo,video...) on microSD class 4 or class 6 has same performance.

obviously sdhc class refer to write speed - that is definition
I just do not wite every time "write/read"
reading speed may increase, but it depends on card
it das not changing fact, that in HTC TC will be no visible difference betwen cards - but huge differnce will be in other devices
and yes, I did check it I have two Sandisk card - both read and write speed are different in my card readers (in both readers I have)

hi,what is different between class 4 class 6 of memory card?

largest memory card supported ?

Hi All
Just ordered my new o2 orbit 2. Upgrading from my orbit 1.
I'm assuming it's still a tiny micro-SD card. Does anyone know what the largest capacity card that is supported by the orbit 2 ?
Jeff
how about something like ?

Theoretically the HTC Polaris can support MicroSD up to 2GB and MicroSDHC up to 32 GB cards. Anyway in this moment the maximun capacity I've seen is MicroSDHC 8 GB cards (I've a 8 GB Sandisk and it works perfect), so don't worry...

Guess what you get if you search for 'memory card size' on the polaris forums ( advanced search ) ?
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms
It doesn't even pick up my new post.
I did search before I posted, always do. Sorry if you find it dull that i've posted a question that I could not find an answer to but that's what I thought these forums where for...
The 6GB card you linked to will be fine, and importantly it is supplied with an SDHC capable reader for the USB slot on the PC.
The Orbit 2/ Polaris can go up to a capacity of 32GB (if you can find cards this large at the moment they would be very costly) - 8GB are certainly available and I have seen 16GB is about to be released (might already be available, at a price) - Mike
MicroSD SDHC drawbacks?
Considering operation specifically for the Touch Cruise, are there any reasons to forgo (to do without) the additional capacity of the SDHC to gain greater than class 4 or 6 speeds (ie: sandisk ultra II microsd with read/write speads of 10/9 m/s)? Would these greater speeds help significantly with video playback or rendering pictures, or would one advise that the difference is negligible and definitely not worth giving up the excess storage potential?
I bought an 8GB Sandisk microSDHC class 4 (with microreader included) for 52 euros. Installed Tomtom Maps of Western Europe on the card and several movies (created with CloneDVD Mobile). Tomtom 6.032 as well as the movies played with Coreplayer 1.1.3 are running smooth. Hence class 4 should be fast enough.
Thanks
Appreciate the comment. I'll have to check out that clonedvd mobile software.
i bought an 8gb sandisk one on ebay for 45$. i was dissapointed though that the built in "all in one" card reader on my crappy ass dell xps m1210 laptop can't read sdhc. still a good purchase though, filled up to 6 gb so far with music and gps maps, etc. i do not notice any performance issues with sdhc.

The fastest speed of Sandisk MicroSd SDHC is class 4, wonder where you did find Ultra II?
Applications like Tomtom will run better (smoother) using a faster MicroSD card, the fastest speed I could find so far is Class 4. As soon as there is a faster card available I will go for it, as long as it is at least 8GB.
I've seen 12GB ones for sale. Would say TC can't use more than class 2, f/s video doesn't use that much!
There's plenty threads about problems recognizing 8GB cards tho, that suddenly it ;becomes; 2GB?

What do you mean with TC can't use more than class 2
The faster the accesstime to the MicroSd card the better the overall performance. If class 6 becomes available I will go for it

I use the same card and I am happy with it, however, an application like Tomtom is depending on a lot of data transfer between the card and the application. I contacted Tomtom to figure out how to get a smooth working screen and the answer was, processor speed and data transfer speed of the card. In my previous equipment, a Mio A201 PDA, I replaced the 60X SD card with a 150X SD card and Tomtom run much smoother.

I thot it only affects sustained transfer. Burst/accesstime are something else.

fastest microSDHC ?

hi!
I want to buy a new microSDHC card.
There is the A-DATA Turbo microSDHC 8GB, Class 6 (AUSDH8GCL6)
the Transcend microSDHC 8GB, Class 6 (TS8GUSDHC6).
the SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC 8GB, Class 4 (SDSDQY-8192-E11M) --> is now Class 4 only? wasn't it class 6? -- http://geizhals.at/a330503.html)
I searched the forums, some say the A-DATA is better and the Transcend is quite slow / buggy - but some also say the A-DATA card is slower and buggy...
Some benchmarks / tests on the Hero would be cool
All I can say is I have a Sandisk 8gb Class 6 MicroSDHC card and it does its job really well.
I'm using a Transcend 16GB Class 6 MicroSDHC and is performing quite well.
Does the SD class impact much on the speed of the phone?
Thanks
Phil
I've managed to convince myself it does, I've noticed my phone has been more responsive since upping to a Class 6 card.
I've seen people say that the swapfile is on SD, hence why it seems more responsive. However, knowledgable people have replied that the swapfile is not on the SD, and it can't.
It will obviously speed up anything that accesses the card, though

It was when I got mine. Looking at the (stock) pic, it still looks like a 6 in the top-right, no? I think the site has it wrongly labelled.
shame on sandisk for not giving perf figures on their website though.
there's a good site for SD (not microSD) & CF benchmarks here:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/reader_report_multi_page.asp?cid=6007-9438
it's mostly for camera-types, but there is a USB reader section that should test the raw card. again, not for microSD, but gives an idea, perhaps.
I don't think using a class 6 card is that much faster (or even at all) than using a class 4 card. I can't see any difference in speed in the UI - only in load times.

No, this is a site for price comparison - I've been at 2 shops and they both had the ultra card and it was class 4...
one shop had a class6, but on the package it said class 4. (and it was very expensive)
I think I'll go with the transcend
that's very odd...
Sandisk Ultra speed
Hi,
I got my Sandisk Mobile Ultra 8 GB SDHC card yesterday.
The web shop where I bought it said Class 6, but the print on the card says Class 4. I was obviously disappointed, but as I transferred my old data to the new card using the supplied (really handy) card reader, I achieved a constant transfer speed of about 13 MB/s.
The phone does seem a bit more responsive now, although that may only be psychological. It is definitely faster in Albums and Music, though.
Best regards,
Martin Wiboe
Changing the SD card
Hello Guys,
i am new to this forum, so i hope im posting in the right place
My hero came with a 2GB card, which i used now for a while.
Now i got a bigger card, to switch cards can i just copy everything from the old to the new bigger card and plug into the phone? Or do i need to reinstall something?
many thanks for your help

Format the new card in-phone first to ensure compatibility, then you can simply copy everything over from the old one.
many thx for that, will try it soon

Got an 8GIG MicroSD card, and...

My Hero came with a 2GIG card ( I'm not sure what class ) - it was fine but too small.
After a bit of research, I found that the higher the class the faster the card ( ie class 6 is a faster card than class 2 etc ).
I formatted the new card in the phone.
So I copied all my old card files to my computer, then copied them over to the new card.
Put in the new 8GIG card in my phone and it mounted no problem and I had all my music and photos.
BUT -
As I can see, it seems to be a lot slower than my old card. If I go to my photo album, it will load as a preveiw grid. This used to happen pretty quickly, but on the new card, the grid squares are grey, and then start to load up with the photo images.
Any ideas why and ways to fix this?
cheers all
did you buy the new card from an auction site? I hate to suggest it, but there are a lot of fakes around...

Errhhh, this is actually incorrect.
All the class means is that your card is guaranteed to write at certain minimum speeds.
Class 2 - 2mb/s
Class 4 - 4mb/s
Class 6 - 6mb/s
So, if you buy a genuine class 6 card, you are guaranteed that it will write at 6mb/s but that doesn't preclude it from operating faster than this minimum.
A good quality class 4 will often write at 11 or 12 mb/s, more than double the class 6 minimum. You can expect that a good quality class 2 or class 4 will often outperform the class 6 minimum, whereas as poor quality class 6 will perform far closer to its minimum requirement.
When buying an SD card, don't just look at the class - look for independent reviews. For example, http://www.davidgilson.co.uk/2008/12/follow-up-another-micro-sdhc-card/, which shows a class 2 card running at speeds well in excess of class 6 minimums.
Regards,
Dave
This is another case of the Hero having problems with certain SDHC cards.
The thumbnails for the Album are not being created and stored for some reason, and i can almost guarantee this is what's happening to you.
I've had to go back to using my old 2gb for now, as my 8gb Sandisk Mobile Ultra Class 6 was performing poorly when viewing my photo albums. We're still trying to work out why the Hero is not liking these newer cards...
I'm watching with interest....

How sad, I should have noticed this before. Having read your article, I immediately test my two SDHC cards. The finding changes my fundamental view on class numbers:
Transcend Micro SDHC, 8G, Class 6: 9.1MB
Sandisk Micro SDHC, 8G, Class 4: 14.9MB
Note 1: The Transcend card is from someone who sold me a second hand Google G1.
Note 2: The Sandisk card came with a tiny red reader (Like this), bought in Hong Kong
The speed test is carried out using the Sandisk reader in conjuction with the card benchmark software called "ATTO". To my surprise, the read/write speed of this tiny reader is, amazingly, faster than the internal card reader.
That would be this issue.
Still no real solution yet, but its not an exclusive problem.

[Q] Can Nook Tablet Use 64 GB Micro SD Cards?

Amazon has a sale on memory cards today. I'm wondering if the Nook Tablet (rooted) will be able to read the 64 GB cards.
Call B&N and ask them.
It can, yes. I recently purchased this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005V7WIA2/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00 and it works quite well. It was a little wonky at first, but after formatting it (in the NT) it became readable. Not sure if every 64 gig micro SD will work with the NT, this one definitely does. For me, anyhow.
Right from B&N FAQ
A microSDHC card with a storage capacity of up to 32 GB.
• Class 6 microSDHC cards are supported. Class 6 is faster than class 4, which is faster than class 2. The class should be mentioned on the packaging for the microSDHC card and printed on the card itself. If no speed is indicated, the card is a class 2 card. The speed of the card does not affect page display speeds. It can affect read and write speeds when transferring books, periodicals, and personal files to and from the SD card.
• The microSDHC card must be formatted with a FAT32 file system.

This is a pretty standard description that most devices and manufacturers use. However, I've found that 64GB microSD work fine when formatted to FAT32.
I dont doubt that they will work, but it just isnt supported by B&N so if you get a card that doesnt work they are going to say too bad so sad if you call/online chat with them. haha
