Turn your Pocket PC into a - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

do a google search for 'Turn your Pocket PC into a'
theres actually some pretty cool things you can do. i liked the FTP server. damn easy for transferring files. the iPhone hack was cool for like 5 minutes. theres a bunch of others like:
2 way walkie talkie
Wifi Phone
Universal Remote (effin sweet)
Router (WMWifiRouter - awesome)
www.lifehacker.com has some awesome stuff also. search Pocket PC and you'll get alot of cool little tricks

Wow, guys.... Do I detect subliminal messaging?

nice find. The FTP Server link is pretty Rad. Have you verified that the software will work on WM6/6.1?

Did you try the Universal Remote and get it working? I know a lot of people have been wanting this.

One very simple app that incredibly oddly is missing is a dyndns client for windows mobile.
You'd think this would be one of the first applications, so that you all of the dynamic ip pocket pcs out there could get their own "permanent" address that people could use for FTP, http servers and other reasons. And it was. Some guy churned a little one out back in 2002. But it's now very buggy with WM5 and WM6.
I'm not a programmer, but I think these are extremely small applications that essentially just ping the dyndns.org site every once in a while (or every time their IP address changes) with a code that passes along the current IP address.
Sounds far more simple to make than most Pocket PC apps, but I don't see one anywhere. Another guy was in the process of cranking one out last year, but has since been apparently traveling in India for the last year.

yes ive tested the FTP server, not extensively. it was pretty sweet though.
i used the universal remote alot. it was awesome. you program it by holding the button of a remote down and letting the IR detect the signal, and you can map the command to a button. ive been trying to find one that can detect the 'Unlock' key on my car keys, so if i ever lock my keys in my car i can use my phone to unlock it. haha. that would be killer. works great on a TV though

I could probably do the DynDNS client using .NET, but I wouldn't really be able to test it since I don't have a data plan... but it would probably pull my IP from my Wi-Fi... We'll see if I have time next week to work on one, if I don't forget about it.

Your car most likely uses RF, not infrared. What software are you using to get it to be a universal remote? I tried novii and vito, but neither of them supported the titan's chipset

You said you used the remote alot, but are you referring to using it on the Titan? If so, I want to know what software setup you had.

Unlock your car through a phone line
I just tried this and it really works!
My wife and i were on a call 60 miles apart (she has an alias I have the titan), with her on my speakerphone. I had her press the unlock button on the extra remote and she unlocked then locked my car throught the phone line, no lie try it yourself! Fuggin awesome!!

I searched but could not find the universal remote software you are talking about - any help would be appreciated

(oops, delete this post please)

The best Universal Remote software EVER for windows mobile was called "Nevo"
Not sure if Nevo works on Windows Mobile 5/6, but worth a shot (see attached CAB file)

That is the amazing thing, there is no programs and you just need two phones of any make or model.
The phones transmit the RF signal.
Now what would be great is if we could save the sound of the RF and replay it if we lock ourselves out. After testing, I don't think .wav files or other encryption will work but I will keep trying.

Send me a PM if it works.
Also, if anyone knows how to encrypt a RF signal so that it can be saved as a sound file and will work let me know!

No, by encryption I mean the way that the sound is decoded from the microphone into a file (possibly not the right word).
My thought is that the reason why it won't work to save a .wav file is that there is some way that the RF sound is decoding to the wav file that makes it not work.

thats pretty sweet you were able to do that. i tried that trick on an old LG phone a while back and it didnt work. never tried it on my 6800

Use android phone as generic bluetooth keyboard/mouse?

I would love to be able to use my phone as a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for my media center (ps3, xbox media center), but cannot find any info about this..
I guess it would be up to the bluetooth drivers, and to my understanding, that was the big issue with bluetooth file transfer on pre 2.x android roms.
So i wonder, is this at all possible?
I am no programmer, so i couldnt possibly do this myself, so the question is merely hypothetical.
It would be nice to use the hero screen as a multitouch trackpad for my htpc with two finger rightclick and scroll as on my macbook but that would probably be asking for too much
I'd say it's possible, but I doubt that those BT profiles are included in the SDK, so it wouldn't be easy at all. It might only be possible on rooted phones.
A multitouch trackpad for a PC wouldn't be hard at all. I had an app like that (I can't remember what it was called, and it certainly wasn't as good as a mac's trackpad) but it worked over WiFi instead of bluetooth. I think it had keyboard as well... hmm..

Gmote does this, although i can't recall whether it supported MT. and i can't get the server to start on my pcs anymore, it is throwing some java errors, but i had it working in the past, and it was kinda decent as a touchpad.

Gmote has similar features, but it does act like generic bluetooth keyboard to be hooked with any bluetooth device, that support bluetooth keyboards. You have to install the server side part, which is not possible for devices like WDTV Live, which I would like to use.
If you want to control your xbox media center you could always search for xbmc-remote on the market.. I'm pretty sure it's for WiFi only though.. :/

but its little bit unstable, let see how it goes with mobile as bt keyboard and mouse as well.
BlueputDroid does this. It is working for me to use my Backflip as a BT keyboard for my Nook Color (though it's a little quirky for me)

Hey all, new here, havnt searched your entire site for this yet, found this thru the goggles so sorry if considered old thread....
Anyone have updated info on this? I want to use htc desire g7 on android 2.2. to type on xbox, anywhere on xbox, like an always on handy dandy controller...
I can only seem to dig up (and been trying for a little while now) info on tethering your xbox TO your 3g android...
or stuff kinda but not really...
thanks nd look forward to learning a ****load of stuff on this site!!

"GENERIC bluetooth mouse/keyboard"
Note "generic" word in the initial post. That means no server applications. I suppose it should work like this: I run the app on my android device and then my pc (or whatever) should be able to detect new bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Does such app exist?
I have searched google play and found nothing. Such app would be extremely useful, I would buy it immediately!

[Q]Win7 Remote Desktop App

New to android and I am looking for a good(free) Remote Desktop app to connect to my Win7 computer through my own wifi network.
I am wanting to be able to remotely control a video switcher that can only be controlled by a hardware panel or a PC program.
Thanks
download getjar's app from getjar.com go to the gold apps and find splashtop and download it. works like a charm.
I would also suggest team viewer. This thing is amazing and will also allow you to control someone else's computer via your computer or phone. Works perfectly and just requires you to be on the website on the connected computer.
EDIT: I just used this app from my phone the other day to fix a friend's computer. All they had to do was get to the website and I took control of the computer on my phone. I was half a city away and it worked perfectly.
The shows I am in we most the time don't want there to be an internet connection. So It sounds like teamviewer won't work for me.

Can TeamViewer be used within a local network (LAN) only?
You can establish Remote control sessions on your local network directly by using IP addresses or computer names.
By default this feature is deactivated because software firewalls may open an acceptance dialog when configured this way.
To activate the LAN mode in TeamViewer full version and Host module:
In the menu click on Extras and then on Options
On the General tab activate Accept incoming LAN connections
When selecting accept exclusively it will display the IP-address of the computer in the ID-filed.
A connection can now be establisher using the IP-address or alternatively using the host name.
If you want to use RDP you can't go wrong with this
http://www.appbrain.com/app/remote-desktop-client/com.xtralogic.android.rdpclient
Yes it is $25 but it is one of the few apps I consider worth buying. It even works over different VPN connections.
+1 for team viewer. I fix my families computers back in chicago, im in california. Works great on the phone to.

Teamviewer works just great I used it both connecting to a mac and pc.
Now i am wondering if any of the other apps have a non mouse based control? So I can just touch the phone screen as if it was a touch screen on the computer. The program I wish to control is just a GUI that looks like the hardware panel.
But I am sure that is not a very easy thing to build from the programing side and have it work clean. Maybe a screen share with a TUIO mapped over it? Just thinking out loud...
Thanks for the info so far everyone!

Wow... that is so cool! Just tested it out on my laptop. Best thing is now I can control my mom's computer remotely when she needs tech support which will make it MUCH easier when she calls for help after her evening cocktail and wine with dinner on top of not knowing what I mean when I say "desktop". lol.
It's a little tricky since when you're controlling the cursor you have to move the opposite direction to get to another part of the screen than you would if you were flicking a regular app on your phone. Just have to get used to it. I guess that's what Shermanpat was talking about in the post above.

Xperia S with Mac OS X Discussion

Anyone owns a Mac and the Xperia S?
My experience with the phone (firmware .73) and my Mac (OS X 10.7.3 Lion) is particularly bad:
Unable to perform drag and drop media transfer like previous Android devices.
The Official Mac Bridge is very buggy (Even on latest update ver2.1), will stuck when transferring lots of file, and does not work with lossless music
Unable to perform USB tethering
Don't get me wrong, the phone itself is great, but I just don't understand why it works bad on a Mac.
Please share your experience and possible fix, if any.

I suspect a very high proportion of Mac users would choose an iPhone so the number of S users on OSX would be very small.

I aslo switched from iPhone4 to Xperia S... and have exactly the same problems with copying music using Mac bridge... I even posted on the Sony forum for this and got a reply that asked for more information.. and after i gave it never heard from them again...
I now use double twist and air sync to copy music to my phone.
Mac bridge seems to work ok on other media files just not mp3's.
Really lame on Sony's part.
I'm using bootcamp, just so I can use the XS to it's fullest.
Here here!
I'm on a Mac too.
And yes. Mac Bridge is just too slow...
it's very funny, it's like they gave 0 support to mac users for this... very disappointing.
OK. So apparently Sony DID try to fix some bugs in the Mac Bridge.
Ver. 2.1 (current) added more options on the Mac Bridge, and it seems the playlist problem works better. Although OS X's Image Capture will not read the device, there's now a direct import photo to folder in the latest version of Mac Bridge.
I am still unable put my entire playlist into the phone though, as the Mac Bridge hangs again when it has transferred about 80% of my songs. I also don't seem to find a workable wired solution for drag-drop file transfer.
Finally, was anyone able to perform backup through the Mac Bridge?
I tried two times and every step return "Failed".
Come on Sony... :-(

I thought for awhile that Sony Bridge hangs when transferring songs, but it works for me. Give it a little patience
The problem i have though is that when a new song is added to the playlist and Sony Bridge detects it and sync it to the phone, the phone itself doesnt update the playlist but will have the new songs added.
I was able to perform backup through MacBridge but it seems like it uses a lot of the Macs resources when doing this.
Mac users are always eternally complaining about one thing or another.
I work for a hardware and software rental company and we only ever get Mac users calling in with issues.
I don't understand you guys, you buy an inferior platform that struggles to deal with a computing ecosystem that was built around windows.
I hope making the switch from IOS to Android will reveal something to you Apple fan. The simple truth they make very basic devices which only work well if you stay within the jurisdiction of Apple.
Next time get a flipping PC like 98% of the flipping world.
Stop using a minority device and wonder why developers don't spend enough optimizing their kit for this deluded minority.

Right, just because I complain about *SONY*'s software makes me another mac complain retard, huh?
To be honest, I've been on a Mac for more than a year, with no problem on both hardware and software at all, while I clearly remember my Windows 7 desktop hangs occasionally just for many basic stuff. My last Android device works great with my Mac too, so it's not a Mac problem in any sense.
I don't really want to argue with you about OS (it's pointless) here, but please let me remind you that this is a Mac discussion/support thread, if you have nothing useful to say, just leave, no one force you to reply.

I'd rather have a platform that hangs occasionally than one that throws up issues and doesn't work at all with a lot of stuff. If you haven't had any issues with your Mac, that's probably because you've so far stuck to basic computing.
Like I said, Macs regularly throw up issues connecting to third party hardware and I know because I spend many hours each week dealing with these problems.
There is absolutely nothing you can say to change this opinion.

I had been using Double Twist with my other Android devices but found that the Sony didn't always show up in the menu, so I started to use Isyncr. It works well enough but some songs for some unknown reason won't make it through. I had to remove some songs from my playlist that were causing this and then it was ok. But Double Twist does not see these playlists now so I have to use the built-in app, Rocket player, or PowerAmp. I just use the stock music app now.
As for file access, I happen to be running Parallels, and therefore I can mount the phone on my mac, and as my Windows Desktop can "see" my Mac disk, it's very easy to access the phone. But I agree, it's stupid to have to do this.
The Sony Bridge was goofy for me - I would see for example a duplicate Music folder and music folder (note the case difference) and one folder was spawning duplicates. Deleted one and the other disappeared too! Who knows was weirdness was happening. So I didn't use it. As for photos, I just copy manually; forget syncing to iPhoto, but that's how I always did it for all my other devices.

if you go to the vlc stream and convert site they have so guides that will help,
but pretty much you need to allow the ports in firewall settings and set up port forwarding on your router

BTW DONT' FORGET TO ATTEMPT AND GET IT WORKING ON YOUR LOCAL NETWORK FIRST! you don't need a firewall if you're behind a router. so just uninstall that crap. I can't believe people still fall for that stuff from companies like norton and stuff.

Agreed. Especially if you use MAC Filtering like me . Good 'ol WPA2 and MAC Filtering have done right by me for quite some time now. Now, Anti-virus, spyware and general internet security besides the firewall I believe is and always will be essential (unless you run a BSD or Linux based machine).
Port forwarding puts a nice hole in your routers security. Always trust the site your opening your port for. Also you may want to read upon port forwarding to better understand what it is before you do it.

I imagine the particular posters have found answers to their problems seeing as this thread
dates from 2014 but I thought it might be worthwhile answering all the same as I ran in to the same niggles when I began using this app so if anyone searching these issues subsequently may find some worth from my reply.
First of all as a far as experience and knowledge is concerned. Firstly with cars;fixing, modifying, engine management tuning, obd2, diagnostics. Basically my auto knowledge is extremely wide and extensive from approx 35 years of obsession and getting stuck in an the deep end whereas my knowledge and experience of computers and smart phone tech is on much, much shakier ground
In fact, for those of my vintage. i.e late 30s,early 40s remember when we were kids. and programmable VCRs were the height of cutting edga technology. Well I'm like the way our parents and grand parents were then. i.e pretty much baffled by it and even following the instructions it was hit and miss whether you actually managed to record that film rhat was on at 4am lol.
So for the second issue brought up by the OP it doesn't matter whether you email yourself the log file or not (I found the few times i tried it that the file wouldn't attach and when it did the problem was the same anyway) you need Microsoft Office or any other type of office suite to view the files. On the pc i have Microsoft office but had to download an app to my phone to view. csv files. Again an office suite that not only displays. csv files but puts them into a spreadsheet format is required.
As for the first issue it's preferable in every way to view the site. on a pc because on the phone display the actual box to sign into is off screen and takes a little bit of zooming out and seaching to find, the same goes after you have signed in when another box appears with a list of the logs files recorded and the tab to choose it. This is where my lack of fundamental computer/web knowledge comes in. I can't tell you why it doesn't sit nicely inti an easily accessible mobile format but it doesn't. Once you've found the first sign in box/pop up it becomes simple, annoying but simple.
As for there being nothing after signing into the webview site successfully all I can assume is either you've no log files to view which you should have if it's all been set up correctly, including choosing which PIDs to send to logfile or the pop up/window where you click on your logfiles is right off screen and has to be looked for. Of course you don't get that problem if accessed using your desktop.
