I would love to be able to use my phone as a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for my media center (ps3, xbox media center), but cannot find any info about this..
I guess it would be up to the bluetooth drivers, and to my understanding, that was the big issue with bluetooth file transfer on pre 2.x android roms.
So i wonder, is this at all possible?
I am no programmer, so i couldnt possibly do this myself, so the question is merely hypothetical.
It would be nice to use the hero screen as a multitouch trackpad for my htpc with two finger rightclick and scroll as on my macbook but that would probably be asking for too much
I'd say it's possible, but I doubt that those BT profiles are included in the SDK, so it wouldn't be easy at all. It might only be possible on rooted phones.
A multitouch trackpad for a PC wouldn't be hard at all. I had an app like that (I can't remember what it was called, and it certainly wasn't as good as a mac's trackpad) but it worked over WiFi instead of bluetooth. I think it had keyboard as well... hmm..

Gmote does this, although i can't recall whether it supported MT. and i can't get the server to start on my pcs anymore, it is throwing some java errors, but i had it working in the past, and it was kinda decent as a touchpad.

Gmote has similar features, but it does act like generic bluetooth keyboard to be hooked with any bluetooth device, that support bluetooth keyboards. You have to install the server side part, which is not possible for devices like WDTV Live, which I would like to use.
If you want to control your xbox media center you could always search for xbmc-remote on the market.. I'm pretty sure it's for WiFi only though.. :/

As of now I could connect S60 device as mobile to laptop.
but its little bit unstable, let see how it goes with mobile as bt keyboard and mouse as well.
BlueputDroid does this. It is working for me to use my Backflip as a BT keyboard for my Nook Color (though it's a little quirky for me)

Just for info - it requires a rooted phone with a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod to work

Note "generic" word in the initial post. That means no server applications. I suppose it should work like this: I run the app on my android device and then my pc (or whatever) should be able to detect new bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Does such app exist?

One very simple app that incredibly oddly is missing is a dyndns client for windows mobile.
You'd think this would be one of the first applications, so that you all of the dynamic ip pocket pcs out there could get their own "permanent" address that people could use for FTP, http servers and other reasons. And it was. Some guy churned a little one out back in 2002. But it's now very buggy with WM5 and WM6.
I'm not a programmer, but I think these are extremely small applications that essentially just ping the dyndns.org site every once in a while (or every time their IP address changes) with a code that passes along the current IP address.
Sounds far more simple to make than most Pocket PC apps, but I don't see one anywhere. Another guy was in the process of cranking one out last year, but has since been apparently traveling in India for the last year.

i used the universal remote alot. it was awesome. you program it by holding the button of a remote down and letting the IR detect the signal, and you can map the command to a button. ive been trying to find one that can detect the 'Unlock' key on my car keys, so if i ever lock my keys in my car i can use my phone to unlock it. haha. that would be killer. works great on a TV though

I could probably do the DynDNS client using .NET, but I wouldn't really be able to test it since I don't have a data plan... but it would probably pull my IP from my Wi-Fi... We'll see if I have time next week to work on one, if I don't forget about it.

Your car most likely uses RF, not infrared. What software are you using to get it to be a universal remote? I tried novii and vito, but neither of them supported the titan's chipset

You said you used the remote alot, but are you referring to using it on the Titan? If so, I want to know what software setup you had.

My wife and i were on a call 60 miles apart (she has an alias I have the titan), with her on my speakerphone. I had her press the unlock button on the extra remote and she unlocked then locked my car throught the phone line, no lie try it yourself! Fuggin awesome!!

That is the amazing thing, there is no programs and you just need two phones of any make or model.
The phones transmit the RF signal.
Now what would be great is if we could save the sound of the RF and replay it if we lock ourselves out. After testing, I don't think .wav files or other encryption will work but I will keep trying.

I've read about this in the past, but found this Snopes article that says it doesn't work... Of course, you could have a newer car that uses a different technology... What kind of car do you have? I just got a new car and am dying to try this out!

How bout DRM'ing a Windows Media format file? It should only play on that PocketPC...

No, by encryption I mean the way that the sound is decoded from the microphone into a file (possibly not the right word).
My thought is that the reason why it won't work to save a .wav file is that there is some way that the RF sound is decoding to the wav file that makes it not work.
thats pretty sweet you were able to do that. i tried that trick on an old LG phone a while back and it didnt work. never tried it on my 6800

I managed to start bluetooth on nookie froyo, BT scan is working well(on command line), sometimes it shows devices in the android gui.
The steps : ( use at your own risk and only for comfirmed devs)
Add bluetooth capabilities (HCILL) in kernel
Toggle the WL12XX_RFKILL flag on in evt1a defconfig.
Take the bluetooth firmware (bts file) from gforge.ti ( wl1271 firmware) for froyo pandroid and put it into /system/lib/firmware, alias /lib/firmware to /system/lib/firmware (useful for command line).
boot the kernel
and then
echo 0 >/sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state
echo 1 >/sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state
hciattach -s 115200/dev/ttyS1 texas
hcitool scan must show you your BT devices (if discoverable)
Stability is not yet here, Maybe some problems with UART high speed handling ?
This is very positive, it seems that the wl1271 chip is well connected to omap3621...

Forgive my ignorance on the subject but what does this mean? maybe the remote possibility of finally being able to use skype and actually talk with a bluetooth earpiece/headset?
That means, IMHO:
1) The hardware is in fact connected. One less thing wait for the salting crew to find.
2) It is possible bluetooth can now be activated in software, since the devs now know it is not a complete waste of time trying to activate hardware that is present but not live.
3) This guy freakin' rocks!

I'm definitely looking forward to being able to use a BT mic + A2DP audio. Now that Clockwork recovery is mostly working, it's going to be great when a 2.2/2.3 custom ROM is out there to just flash and get all this stuff working and easily installed/reproducible.

I have a hunch that B&N may officially add this in the 2.2 update to make it either look better in a marketing sense (why they would have it off I do not know except... * ) or to go with some fancy accessory.
*They might have it off due to a radio licencing fee they would have to pay or something... No firm data on this IMO just an observation.

You might be able to tether your android phone's GPS to your NC using Bluetooth with an app in the market called BlueNMEA and an app called Bluetooth GPS in the market. Bluetooth GPS allows your android device to use an external Bluetooth NMEA compatible GPS with apps that require a GPS, like Google Maps. So if you put BlueNMEA on your phone and turned your phone into the antenna and then put Bluetooth GPS on your phone to receive the signal, it might work.

They probably left it off because, right now, the Nook Color is not open to 3rd-party software. There's nothing available (officially) that can use it, so there's no reason to spend development resources getting it running.
I picked up LogMeIn Ignition from the Amazon Market when it was on sale this past weekend (still $15). I was wondering if anyone had experience using it over webtop. I have heard some folks using the web app via Firefox in webtop just fine.
Getting a laptop dock for Christmas and have never used webtop before. Excited to give it a try.
FYI the laptop docks are on sale at AT&T, 99bucks new and 75 for a refurb.
If you're using the webtop you can use Logmein through the browser and don't need an app.
I haven't tried it so I'm not sure how the performance is, but that's how I'd do it.
Yeah that's what I've been reading as well. I might have to break out the HDMI cord and see for myself before the laptopdock gets here.
Please update and let us know how this works. i have the mobile app and use it all the time for several computers. I have a lapdock on the way and was wondering how well it worked or if i was going to have to use the browser version. Thanks for testing this.
Looks like Ignition via WebTop is a No-go
Well I gave LogMeIn Ignition a shot on webtop (via HDMI) and there are a couple of reasons I believe everyone will stick with the browser log-in version.
1. Mouse controls are very hinkey - even if you toggle the settings it's difficult to click anything (I was using my phone as the mouse, but I think results would be similar with a physical mouse or the laptopdock trackpad.
2. The resolution is cruddy, and the resolution controls in ignition didnt do anything for me.
Well there's our answer - for now. If anyone tries this on their laptopdock before I get mine please let us know how your experience is.
You could've picked up Team Viewer for free & the service is free on your PC also, it does everything that LMI does but free (for non commercial use)......PLUS it works for Linux

+1 Actually, TV does much more than LMI free. File Transfer for one, which I HAVE to have.
Has anyone used TeamViewer with just hdmi mirroring (Not LapDock)? Right now the smoothest and quickest way I've been getting Remote Control is just using Ignition directly on the phone...since it seems to be the least laggy and more precise when navigating. The next best is using the hotspot to my net-book and java web interface logmein. But that's a hassle because I have to undo my static IP settings on my net-book every time to get it work correctly with hotspot. Maybe TeamViewer via hdmi would be a quicker solution?
Would have to set up TeamViewer on quite a few computers just to try it...so who's tried them all?

I would like to be able to control my parent's mobile phones. They are not good with technology so I'm having issues walking them through how to fix various little things on their phone. They are coming to visit me soon and I'd like to install software on it that allows me to control the hardware from a remote location.
I've been doing remote control for their home PCs for years and it's saved so many headaches because I can remotely deal with it myself without any user interaction. This is what I'm looking for to control their cell phones. I'd prefer the ability to click with a mouse on areas of the screen to emulate touching it with a finger.
Both phones are identical. They are both AT&T Samsung Infuses on Froyo (I could upgrade them to GB but they really don't care. I will if it gives me more options though). Both phones are not rooted and they don't want me doing anything with that because they want their warranty.

just putting this out there, any app that allows a remote user to control hardware would HAVE to have root access by its nature. Otherwise, any of your remote actions wouldnt actually do anything.

AirDroid allows users to enter passcode on web.airdroid.com, so I was confused.
You can do it without rooting now, try our new app, VMLite VNC Server, it allows you view and control your android phones from a PC. works on S2 with Jelly Bean.

work with Froyo? Main use is to control my parent's phone (Samsung Infuse) and since they're not tech savvy is it easy to setup remotely?
yes, event works with Eclair, Froyo is fully supported.
I agree with the VMLite VNC server option , works decently for me.
For Samsung phones, you can also look for TeamViewer Quick Support on the Play Store.

I've tried it. It's not great, and it makes your background black, which is annoying. Beyond that though, it's functional enough, but about as good as any other remote connection app you could find on Google play, and no less laggy when you're moving windows around or something. I probably won't use it; I just wanted to see what it could do. The only feature it has (or I presume it has) which is more convenient sometimes is IP tunneling so you don't have to port forward your VNC, but it may not even have that, I just got the impression that it did. I haven't used splashtop to compare them directly.
