I'm stuck in boot screen (updating ROM) - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I've since solved my boot screen issue. I've installed :
dcd 3.2.5
Titan_Radio_ROM_3.42.30
dcd USCC Carrier 20080801
I have no data connection, I deleted it says my username and password are incorrect. I've tried every combination of my 10digit number and uss.net that I can think of. I've also reinstalled the uscc carrier cab, did the *228 and a soft reset. I can connect for 2 kilobyts then after that I can't connect. I'm not finding much on these forums to help me out. Does anyone have any ideas?

additional info
Sorry, the phone is a USCC 6800

hey just to let you know I have the 6900 and I dial #777 not sure if u wanna try that

I've had the same problem everytime I change ROMS. I have Verizon and found after I've "activated" the phone using the *228 then option 1, I then do *228 and option 2 (update my roaming capabilitys). That has always enabled my data connection.

If that doesnt work and you have an old cell phone around you can swap the ESN's on VZW's web site under customer service. When you do this you reset all the security information for the handset. I find this way to be the quickest method that has never failed. I use it so much I have the other ESN almost memorized!~

Run EPST and make sure that your PPP user name and password in there are correct.
If you didn't back up your phone's programming with QPST before and after flashing there is a chance that your EPST information is corrupt which would cause data to not work.
You will need your SPC/MSL in order to access EPST. You can try 000000 if nothing else works, and if it is 000000, you will need to set it back to the correct SPC/MSL otherwise *228 won't properly update your phone. Also USCC doesn't offer an option 1 or 2 after dialing *228, they don't have an OTA reprogramming of their phone.
If those changes don't work, you can try posting your entire EPST on here (removing any personal info, i.e. phone #, ESN, etc) and one of us USCC folks can compare it to ours and let you know what other areas look corrupt.
This is the one downside to USCC customers, we have to take extra steps while programming our phones to get them up and running, luckily it's a one time thing, once the phone is flashed the first time, these settings stick.

XV6800 stuck on Sprint towers with new rom

I have a Verizon 6800 and being stupid I installed the 3.16.651.0 Sprint Rom on my phone. I reverted back to the original Verizon stock rom with no problem and I'm back on the Verizon network.
But now I have installed DCDs Verizon beta 2.0 rom with the new radio and somehow I am stuck on Sprints towers again. I can tell because it tells me *228 isn't a valid feature code.
My guess is that the "unofficial" Sprint Rom wrote something to the phone that the new radio rom refers to when installed. Is there a way to get it to the Verizon network with the new rom and radio installed?

I found a PRL from 2004, would that be too old?

Thank you so much
Fantastic, I am back on the Verizon towers for phone calls.
But now when I try to use the data I get an error:
Error Code: 11
PPP Connection Error
Any clues how to get data back?

All of my settings are setup just like yours. When I was on the phone with Verizon we created two new connections and didn't work either.
To rule out being a tower refresh issue, I am going to put a non-pda phone on my account then put the 6800 back on.

Ok that didn't work either. So it is something definitely on the phone itself. Any ideas anyone?
AKEY?
are you getting an authentication error when dialing *228 or *86? If so, then your AKEY is probably blank. You'll need to contact VZW for it. I might have to call them again cause me being an idiot didn't write it down when I called them for it the 1st time.
I'm getting authentication errors again and lo and behold, my AKEY is missing. I didn't even do a hard reset or flash another rom/radio. Weird.
I'm getting the same error now. I just got my A-Key refreshed from VZW tech support, but now I can't connect to the data network.
Same error here. I updated to new Sprint rom and DCD 3.0.1..
I think i messed up the first time and let Sprint customizations run. I have tried to flash back to original vzw rom, but still can't connect to data network. I have had vzw gen new A key and refresh my data package.
Anyone have a solution for this?

I can't find a solution for re-flashing the radio - what did you do there?
I think you did flash the Sprint rom - and let the customs run - are you fully resolved there (*226, epst @ 000000 etc...)?

Just for sanity, the AKEY is always blank. You can't see it after you enter it on Verizon. You also can't re-use it. It's a one shot deal.
I have had this error regardless of any rom (DCD or NexVision). The issue is not being able to connect the vzw network. I don't receive it when I am on wifi but I do if there is a wifi I cannot connect to due to a security key. BTW I have a data block. I phoned support once on the issue and that is the best they could do. Sorry if this isn't helpful.

[SOLVED] 2.2 DCD ROM and Data now drops to 1x??

Carrier: Alltel
Started with WM5 ROM.
Flashed to DCD's 2.1 WM6 ROM last week, no issues noted.
Yesterday flashed to 2.2 WM6.1 ROM and now whenever I get a data session going in a strong EVDO area I get dropped down to 1x when the data session finishes connecting?
I've moved back to 2.1, used no2chems 6.1 ROM and back to DCD's 6.1 ROM. Same problem all around now.
Radio problem maybe? Or user? If radio, anyone get me a link to the original 1.4?
Thanks in advance if anyone has any tips, I've tried looking around but only find people with MMS or other issues.
---------------------
This solution apparently only works for Alltel customers, if anyone finds solutions for Sprint/Verizon/Telus I'll add the solution to this post.
ALLTEL:
1. Enter EPST (##778), Edit (password= 000000).
2. View Info (left soft key).
3. Choose the "Security" item.
4. In the "HDR AN AUTH Password(LONG)" field, click to highlight.
5. Menu (right soft key), Edit
6. In the "Value" field, enter your Hex ESN (make sure all characters are CAPITAL, lowercase will FAIL).
7. Ok. Menu. Ok to save, then reset.

Hey in case you guys are still having problems with this, I can tell you what worked for me with Sprint.
You'll need your unlock code, if you don't have it, you've gotta get it from either Sprint or from one of the tutorials i've seen floating around here and other forums.
1. Sync your titan to back up your data.
2. ##786# Choose edit, enter your unlock code, then choose menu>restore. This will reset everything to factory settings.
3. Reset
3. ##UNLOCKCODE# Again choose edit.
4. Both MDN and MSID should be your wireless number (this was confirmed by Sprint T2 tech support)
5. Reset
6. Call your voicemail to make sure your phone service is working.
7. Connect to the internet. It should trigger IOTA/Provisioning and then EVDO should be working.
8. Resync your **** and you're good to go.
Hope this helps, it worked for me.

I think with Alltel you get 1x when roaming. Do *228 option 3 < Thats to activate your phone if you haven't already
Then do *228 option 2 to update your roaming preferences which ridded me of roaming in coverage area!

Did you check Start->Settings->Personal->Phone->Services->Mode of Operation to make sure it wasn't set to 1X only? I think that was the default setting on my phone.
I had this same problem, and then I reflashed with the 3.16 sprint rom twice and it went away.
Appreciate the responses, but I don't have the "Mode of Operation" on my Alltel 6800. And I've reflashed all kinds of ROMs with no luck...
Thanks for the ideas though...

With the newest Advanced Config app, you can unhide the "mode of operation" option in there. I got it from here somewhere, do a search. I doubt this is your issue. I had this problem yesterday with Sprint. I got data in 1xRTT, but not EVDO. I ended up calling Sprint and they had to deactivate and reactivate the internet services on my phone. Immediately it worked like a champ.
I had this problem also and was able to take care of it by going into EPST (##778) and going under the security settings and putting the ESN Hex Value of Your Phone under the HDR Password. Mine got lost whenever I upgraded the radio. This will allow you to lock back onto the EVDO network

I just checked and I have a bunch of garbled characters in this spot. Does anyone else see something like this?
What did you guys have in that slot before you added your esn hex number?
the password you need is unlock code you can only get from sprint.
i also had the weird characters, i edited these out with my esn hex as mentioned and now i cant get a data connection at all, i get an error that i cannot connect. Anyone with any idea on what i can do?
I thought of downgrading the radio and then installing this one again and starting from scratch any better ideas?
My HDR password is also extended ASCII characters, has been for every ROM version I have run, and I get EVDO and on the Internet as well. I thought that was a problem when I had no data connection from a previous ROM, but it wasn't.
What worked for me was to go all the way back to the official 2.17, then to the leaked 3.16, etc. I made sure everything was set up and working properly on each version before moving on to another ROM.

But, my MDR Password field was goofy stuff, deleted it and put in my Hex ESN in ALL CAPITALs and I stay at EVDO when my data connection is made now.

Mogul to alltel problem

Hi all i need help on Mogul. Originally its on Sprint then read a lot of upgrading process and finally did it. I did the RUU for alltel and everything works fine. The only thing is that i cant take out the roaming indicator. At first i was thinking its probably because of the PRL, but NO i got the latest PRL for alltel. Checked out the EPST settings and checked everything. I found out under Modem settings--Preffered Serving system-- Values are"Automatic, Roming only, Sprint Only." How do you take Sprint Only out? How can i make it fully work for Alltel? thanks.
I would try reflashing the Radio which would completely wipe out your settings then reprogram it for Alltel. I would think IOTA or something pre-filled in those settings.

thanks for the replies. xweaponx do you also have a value in your SCm of 42? What ROM should i use to fully erase everything on it?
One more thing i read somewhere that alltel just uses 800Mhz in some states. Due to this whenever i change my my phone settings to home only i loose my signal eventhough i have the correct system id. I;m doing this because i really wanted to take out the roaming indicator. Am i doing something wrong?

Alltel HTC PPC 6800 ROM **where are the experts??**

I have Alltel and have been trying NexVision's ROM, the DCD and and and, pretty much everything I could find.
Running the 3.27.00 Radio ROM and tried a lot of ROMS of the WM 6.1 ones
I cant get any of them working right!!
I dont seem to get any success after flashing connecting to the Internet and also constantly have the roaming indicator on (that triangle on the top).
Also it changed my MSC/SPC or whatever you call it from 000000 to something else which makes it impossible for me to use the *228 to update roaming and PRL via their automated telephone thing.
Now my question is,
which is the best working ROM for the Titan on alltel? Especially how do I get the thing to connect to the Internet again???
how do I get the Titan connected to QPST in order for me to change the SPC back to 000000?????
I appreciate any help, this forum is so helpful and such great work you guys!!!!!

It sounds like you let the Sprint customizations run. Sound about right?
Here's what I had to do after the Sprint customizations locked me out of the PST:
Geckotek said:
I flashed back to the stock VZW ROM (third time I think), I made sure all of my provisioning issues with Verizon were worked out (finally had the tech "kick the switch").
1) Then I proceeded to load the 2.4 bootloader,
2) then the 3.16 Unauthorized Sprint ROM w/ radio,
3) then finally installed a cooked DCD 2.3.2 ROM.
Things to note:
1) I never let the Sprint ROM boot up
2) I had no signal so ran *22802 then hit End as soon as it connected
3) Still no signal after reboot
4) No A key, MSID, or MDN issues, but I did re-enter the MSID and MDN as discussed in other threads
5) After re-entering MSID and MDN then after reboot I had signal
6) never had to run *228 to OTA program (in the past programming with *228 has reversed the effect of re-entering the MSID and MDN)
In general, I feel that the OTA from VZW sends down some programming that conflicts with the 3.27 radio...but I have nothing to prove that.
GPS is running great (I just loaded the AstroGPSLauncher)
Not sure about Rev A. It does seem snappy. What's a good site to test from the phone?
I'm happy and not re-flashing until a solid radio for Verizon arrives.

jamesfelarca:To change the PRL you can put ##775 in the dial pad and send. Then enter the 000000 for the unlock code and select update PRL ->Menu->Edit and select the current PRL (probably a good idea to have this on your memory card) http://www.corolada.com/prl/ The one you want is 30031. Also you may want to do the ##778 unlock code 000000 and then check the NAM settings MDN and MSID should be your 10 digit number.

A) What my instructions help with is flashing a Sprint ROM to a non-Sprint phone
B) My instructions show you the only way I've ever seen how to remove the MSL from the phone.
So if you want your phone to work correctly, I suggest you give it a try. Your mistake was letting the Sprint customizations run....as far as I know, that is not easily reversible.

I'm not sure how to change the MCL back to 000000 but if you haven't already you should be able to use GetSPC to obtain the code for your device. Once you're in EPST check your Home SID to make sure this is correct. If not there's a good chance you'll be roaming all the time. Also make sure you have the newest PRL (*228 Option 2)
For your internet connection, check EPST Security and M.IP Default Profile and make sure your NAI and UserIDs are set to your phone number @alltel.net and your AAA shared secret and PPP Password should be "alltel" without the ". Your HDR AN AUTH Password should be your ESN (Hex).
I recommend dcd 2.32 also. It's what I'm using and it's working great.
Sounds like everyone else covered the how to's... but before you try anything else you might want to wait for DCD's new kitchen which will work with the official radio released for Sprint today.
Roaming Order
Does anyone know if there is a way to change the order of carriers my phone tries to roam to?
I have Alltel and apparently Sprint is at the top of there list. I live in an area where Sprint service sucks and there is no EVDO, but the Sprint tower is just close enough to be seen so I never get onto the Verizon Towers. I would like to set my Roaming order to be Verizon first then Sprint etc...
Thanks,

EVDO - Can not connect

I did the Titan GPS Fix (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanGpsFix) and shortly after making the changes I noticed that I will not connect to EVDO, just 1X. I don't think the changes I made would affect this, but maybe something else inadvertently got changed in QPST, so i loaded the file that I saved before the changes and wrote to the phone. Still no EVDO.
I did a hard reset, reflashed Radio and ROM and reloaded carrier cab. I had USCC reset my EVDO info and changed the ESN to another phone for a while...still no EVDO.
ROM: dcd 3.2.6
RADIO: 3.42.50
Carrier: USCC
EPST Security Settings:
HDR AN AUTH User Id: [email protected] uscc.net
HDR AN AUTH password: ESN
PPP User Id: [email protected] uscc.net
PPP password: MIN
One thing I noticed is that under the M.IP Default Profile, 'HA Shared Secret' and 'AAA Shared Secret' has weird characters (no readable text) in the settings field.
Anybody have any suggetions?
You try to reactivate it?
What do you mean by reactivate it?
I called USCC and they said everything looks correct, they also said they will reset the settings. I also did *228 to update the PRL.

Activate an old phone... then re-activate the new phone.

I will give that a shot. How long should I keep the old phone active?
Long enough to do your *228 stuff.. make a phone call... and connect to the internet.
Make sure your 6800 is at least in Flight mode if not have the batter pulled.
Once that's all done... then re-activate the new phone.

I activated an old phone, made a phone call, data connection and *228 and I got EVDO. I re-activated the 6800, made a phone call, data connection and *228 and still no EVDO.
I noticed in DEBUG mode on the HDR list, it shows AN/AA authentication shows 2=failed authentication.
I'm guessing it has to be something with the phone.
Any other suggestions?

did you put the username and password under settings... connections... connections... manage existing connection... ?
user: #phone#@vzw3g.com
pass: vzw
Also, if you open QPST and look at EFS explorerer... is the DMU.Key file in the DMU folder?
Edit: Also, where you have Hashed letters in those 2 fields in EPST... clear them. Then do your normal *228 to reprogram the phone.

This is a US Cellular phone. I have user: phone#@uscc.net and the password is phone#.
In EFS explorer I have 2 files in the DMU folder. 10.key and 41.key
I deleted the hashed letters and did the *228.
Still can connect on 1X, but not EVDO.

duh... I knew that... just old habit with VZW. LOL.
hmm... not sure what the 41.key is. must be a USCC thing. Somebody on USCC needs to chime in with their settings in EPST.
I'd love to except we don't have EVDO in my town....
