I flashed using the telus ROM. This is the best radio yet for ME. Been using it all day and I get locks in under 15 seconds regardless. For me this locks much more consistantly than any other radio to include .50.
This Rocks
BTW: Im running DCD 3.2.5 with this radio.

Yes, the gps locks are pretty great with this radio. I came from 3.42.50 too, and prefer this one so far..

I think the radios for these two devices are compatible, but I'm not sure..
I know that the 3.42.50 radio that came from the Vogue works on the Titan.

Thats a question for GC14 but I would have to say NO, DONT TRY IT. In his post about radio .50 he said he had to "port" which means some sort of changes were needed.

Idk if they are 100% compatible, but 3.42.50 DID indeed come from a Vogue ROM, I'm not sure what all, if anything, was modified.
Either way, this appears to be an 'official' update.
Someone should see if they can flash this via USB or not. I am curious and have a theory about RUU flashing via USB.

Questions about these radio rom updates
Is the bluetooth firmware enchanced with each radio update typically. I keep thinking one of these days its going to work with the nissan/infiniti navigation bluetooth systems, since the 6700 worked just fine.
Is this completely out of the questions with a radio rom update or is this moreso something broke in the OS.
Its a handshaking issue that is well documented with the 6800/titan/mogul and these nav systems with BT.
Zero support from nissan / htc on the subject.
When i think radio I think 4 parts.
CDMA+BT+WIFI+GPS
Am i correct?

AFAIK you are correct. There is indeed a difference in the BT performance between the radios. I can tell the difference just by using my BT headset. Some radios were fine, others had poor range, poor audio quality, or both. Of course the radio is only half of the equation, the BT stack in the CE rom makes a difference too.

i just flashed the radio having previously use .50 with dcd 3.2.5. correct me if im wrong, but should this one be working better since im actually with telus????

What's your theory?

whatever your theory is, here's an RUU exe of the new radio. sorry for the rapidshare/

this radio is by far the best one out yet...
i have not encountered any problems and my gps locks at 5seconds now!!! thats right it only took 5 seconds to lock right after a fresh flash....all previous radios including .50 take at least 8 seconds for me. i'm with sprint btw

This is a SUPERIOR radio to 3.42.50. I get locks from cold start in TEN SECONDS, and 5 second locks or less from warm-hot starts.
and im on VERIZON!!!!
Locks from indoors have jumped all the way down to 30 seconds or less, even got a lock in my basement. By far the best radio. I wonder why few people are paying attention to it?

my theory is that these newer radios will only flash once as an 'unofficial' radio and then requires you to flash via microsd after that (unless u revert SPL of course)
however, since this is an official radio, i was wondering if it would flash via RUU since it came from an official release. (not talking about flashing the entire Telus release via USB, but rather stripping out the radio, makign the RUU like I did on my site tutorial, and then flashing the radio via that signed NB(H) file)

Is this radio actually better than the .50?
Has anyone done any extensive testing?

Sprint 6800 Maintenance ROM coming Friday 11/30

Just heard that there is a maintenance ROM release for Sprint devices coming on Friday, 11/30. This is NOT the Rev A and GPS release. Its supposed to have some bluetooth fixes, among other things. It should be posted on the HTC website on Friday.
And you heard this from where???
so what else is NEW?
This is the promised ROM they refer to on this page.
http://www.america.htc.com/support/mogul/software-downloads.html
in this paragraph
"Sprint and HTC regret any inconvenience customers have recently experienced with the Mogul. HTC is working on a new version of the software ROM for the Mogul which incorporates enhancements for Bluetooth performance and corrects issues that were unintentionally created by ROM version 2.16.651.0 (posted on HTC’s website on October 24). Both Sprint and HTC have begun testing the new software and are targeting to make it available for download by the end of November. Once fully tested the download will be made available on this webpage. Please bookmark this page for easy reference."

I installed 2.17 last night. I previously had the roaming lockup problem with 2.16 set to 'Automatic' just stepping into the elevator at my office. This morning with 2.17 and roaming setup to 'Automatic' no lockup riding the elevator.
I also experienced the Dpad issue on 2.16 with Bluetooth enabled. With 2.17 and Bluetooth enabled the Dpad is functioning just fine. I also bought a Plantronics 520 headset this week that is BT 2.0 and it is working just fine.

Thanks for the update, Tom! I too got a little impatient last night and installed the new rom. I've yet to run into the same roaming problems inherent in the 2.16 release and everything else seems to be running well. I suppose only time will tell at this point.
This is great news! I downloaded the ROM this morning, but I have been waiting until the weekend to install it to see what the early adopters had to say. Great to hear that it seems to be working better.

Observations:
-DPad working when BT enabled.
-BT working with a Motorola H500 headset. Will also test a Plantronics 510, Motorola S9, and H9 in the next couple of days.
-The ROM is more responsive (paginates more quickly) and transitions from portrait to landscape more faster as well.
Here's a question. Remember back when the Mogul came out, to make the battery last you had to hack 4 reg keys? Have you guys had to do that with 2.17 at all?

I never did the power hacks for the last rom and I can get 2-2.5 days with normal use, although the phone goes on the charger every night regardless. I've only been using this rom since about 11:30 last night but it seems to be the same as before.
I don't know if it's just me but it seems that I have had less signal bars since upgrading to the 2.17 rom. I am convinced, however, that the Mogul is just not very good at displaying it's bars. Whether I have "full signal" or only 1 bar my calls are always clear and I have yet to drop one, so even if it appears as less I haven't had any issues.
Lucky...i only got 12-14 hours normal use, email check every 10 min, no bluetooth, but I'm ok with that. I'll wait another day or so but this ROM looks promising
does this new rom erase the memory on ythe phone so that ill have to reinstall everything? i have a nice setup and an incrremental upgrade wouldnt be worth it

Am I running Rev A? (not as dumb as it sounds)

While it may seem like (and very well may BE) a stupid question, I'm not 200% sure one way or the other.. until recently I guess. Read on..
Last night I flashed to DCD's 2.10 ROM with 3.27 radio and go to test Google Maps. I see "GPS Activated", but nothing's picked up, no satellites. This seems like it would mean I'm probably NOT working with a Rev A ROM.
Well then I go from the regular old IE/PIE to Opera Mini 4 Beta 2 and speed test from dslreports.com/stest & mobilespeedtest.com... From dslreports I get "too fast/unstable" (whereas before, with PIE it would load "fine" and average about 600kbps) and from mobilespeedtest.com I get *2.35Mbps* (which I don't think is right/even possible. is it?)
I guess the ultimate question is - Is DCD's 2.10 ROM with 3.27 Radio running EVDO Rev A/GPS or not? Again, I know this seems stupid, and probably is, but this is place to come ask questions so I figured why not. Also, is it really possible that I was getting 2.35Mbps? I've tested a few other times with some read higher (2.6Mbps) and some a little lower (2.2Mbps) but I just don't trust it
well, theoretically, it's possible that you're getting those speeds. I personally doubt it, but it's impossible to say for 100% certain.
on the GPS thing: the first time, it takes a long time (some say as long as 20 minutes) to get the fix the first time, since it has to download a lot of data from the GPS sattelites to get a fix. some have better luck doing that outside. for me, it worked inside, but it did take a long time the first time, and then it all started working.
However, I don't like to harp on a repeating admonition, if you'll go back the last few days you'll find a plethora of posts on the subject that will tell you a lot more than I can in one short post.
So, short answer: Yes, you have Rev A and GPS, but you may not notice amazing speed differences with Rev A because it depends on the infrastructure of the local station and the GPS takes some time to initialize to start with. After the first time it'll get better.
My understanding is that Opera Mini uses a proxy to optimize data for mobile devices, so you're likely to get false speed test results through Opera Mini. PIE or Opera Mobile will give you more realistic speed test results.
Any other thoughts on this?
The leaked ROM that DCD is based on includes GPS. It doesn't include Rev A. The official release is supposed to include both, but Sprint has had unexpected difficulty with Rev. A, so we'll see.

RevA is part of the 3.27 radio, not DCD's roms. The new ones won't work WITHOUT 3.27, but that's where you're getting RevA

OK, thank you. But are there any browsers (not using proxies - Opera) that'll fully utilize Rev A and not crash? I love Opera, you just can't play YouTube/flash videos. And while you CAN play those videos through PIE (and I have no issues playing them), the browser itself stalls out and is very slow and clunky.
REV-A and you;-)
The best way to tell if you are on REV-A is to install WMWIFIRouter and ICS or tether to your PC in some way, and go to speakeasy.net/speedtest and run your tests. You may not even be in a REV-A coverage area, but if so then your download will not change so much but your upload will be above 200k or more if signal is good. REV-0 upload speed is max 153.6k, REV-A is 1.8meg.

Correct, Alltel implemented Michigan EVDO as one of their first, before the DOM-A card was released, and the later markets like Louisiana and Kansas much later, after the DOM-a release, so they got DOM-A cards but did not have VER 4.01.106 Nortel software/firmware yet to put in them so they were REV-0 anyway but upgradeable. I am not sure which newer markets have updated as it is available now cause we are on 5 in VZW land. I am sure Michigan will swap their DOMs in but bet they have not yet, so you are right.
P.S. I know this stuff because I was NT NI and put most of it in ;-)
I am in a Rev. A area (Austin, TX) and have no speed increase, nor have I heard of anyone with a confirmed speed increase. Where is the evidence that people are getting Rev. A speeds? If you are, please post a screenshot. I know the official release is supposed to include Rev. A, but I've seen no evidence that the leaked version actually does. My speed tests have been consistent with what I was getting prior to the new ROMs, and others have reported the same.
You have to take into account that you're using RF not a direct connection, and that those max speeds include overhead and not raw data throughput. Rev A isn't some magical speed increase, it relies on your signal to the tower. Just like how you can get less than 54Mbps on 802.11g due to signal conditions, you can get less than the maximum data rate with EVDO.
In fact you can never actually get 54Mbps, just like you'll never really get 3Mbps+ with Rev A. Rev A actually builds directly of Rev 0 and adds some new modulation techniques that are used in conditions where the signal is good enough.
Then, you still can't be sure your phone is provisioned for Rev A, which it probably isn't because your carrier does not officially support that service on your phone yet.

I am on Sprint. I am in one of the first areas that deployed Rev. A. I speed tested my EVDO connection before & after the upgrade with no discernible difference. The most noticeable speed increase with Rev. A should be on the upload, which has not changed at all. In fact, nothing has. This issue has been discussed across multiple forums and still not one person has posted evidence that this ROM activates Rev. A. Again, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but can you point me to any evidence that this ROM contains Rev. A? Sprint never said this leaked early build contains Rev A, only that the release build would. People assume it does because the release build was promised to, but all those that have tested it that I'm aware of have not shown a speed increase, either in upload or download speeds.
From the Engadget Mobile article about the leaked ROM: "Rev. A -- a feature promised by Sprint to be enabled at some point in the future when the Mogul was first released -- is also apparently going to be prominently featured when this update officially hits, but it's either flaky or switched off altogether in this particular build while the devs are still hammering out some last-minute issues." Just as I said in my first post in this thread.
Source: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/01/26/new-sprint-mogul-rom-leaks-out-gps-support-and-all/
It is important to note that if you are using Opera Mobile for your speed tests the results will be misleading as Opera Mobile uses an intermediate server and then renders a "view" of your webpage and transmits it to your phone. So when you speed test using Opera you are speed testing the intermediate server NOT your phone.

First Time Flasher GPS question

I have recently flashed my ROM with dcd 3.2.6 which everything is working great. The only question i really have is how much does the radio have to do with the GPS working faster. It generally takes about 10 minutes before the seeking is done with Google maps, and i was curious if going to a newer radio would effect that at all? Any tips or thoughts would be great.
Thanks

I kept the stock rom 3.37.20 that i had from the last ALLTEL release ROM update. I will try going to the newer radio and see if that improves it any.

I updated to the newest radio and it worked great not only is it a touch faster but i was actually able to use the gps inside my office where as i was not able to before.

Upgrading Radios - Is it possible or is it just me?

I recently upgraded from Titan Radio ROM 3.42.30 to Titan Radio ROM 3.42.50 along with DCD 2.3.6.
I noticed my GPS is ALOT more jumpy around buildings when I'm downtown.
Is it possible that an older Radio allows a GPS chip to work better than a newer one? I'm asking because I see alot of people stay with old Radios and I always wonder why.

Not sure. Some say the earlier ones do. You can downgrade anytime. won't hurt any of your other software.
Well, 3.42.50 is ported from a Vogue, so maybe you should try 3.42.40 which is the newest native titan radio.
The radios do not make any difference.... Just find one that "you" perceive to be the best one for you......

I'm not the only one complaining about x.50 and GPS.
I"ve had the same issue with both .40 and .50. From what I remember, .50 skipped so much in some places that it would lose the satellite lock completely for a few seconds to a minute or more when I was using it while in the car. .40 is a little better, it doesn't seem to lose the lock nearly as much, if at all, but it does seem more "jumpy" than .30 was. I am testing .50 again right now to see if anything has changed.
I started with .30 had decent GPS locks, tho it was never under 2 minutes. .50 next, it's GPS was about the same on lock time but did disconnect from time to time, now on .40, still long locks, and in some cases 10+ minutes before it locks, a lot less disconnects.
Why was it we upgraded from .30? Did .40 or .50 offer anything other than slightly better signal? Where I live I can't tell a difference in signal, it just works. Anywhere in my town, even 8 miles out into the county, it just worked.
What would be any downsides with me rolling back to .30? At least it was more consistent on GPS locks.

Hey guys, snatched up that new OTA which is taking our software version to 1.35.531... Looking at what i can do with the patch files... But in the mean time, theres a new kernel and radio... Im gonna give u guys the radio first as right now at 5am and no sleep its what i was willing to do right fast... I will push the update tomorrow and see how far we can take this update... (new kernel? SPL maybe? Rec?!) Not entirely likely but having this update with the retail sigs which i can rip/use etc may help... Wishfull thinking at least... Who knows but i need sleep so here ya go... have at it!!.... CR
This will take ur radio from 7.08.35.04S to 7.09.35.10
I cant exactly tell u what the improvements are but as with all radio updates theres things u can assume will be improved.... You can expect all the same improvements as having the newest radio on any other device (increased battery life, signal strength etc) But dont quote me on that lol..... CR
PS... yes i have flashed this, and no it wont brick ur slide or kill root lol... Had to add that for those who keep asking
Newest Radio

Awesome! Flashed this and it improved my 3G. I'm now getting the download speeds I should have been in the first place! Good work!

Ok I hate to sound like that guy but, if we let the update pull from tmobile and install we should still be good and keep our current root correct???

Flashed the new radio from the file above.
My 3g seems to be SOLID now, no more dropping to edge or grps when I move the phone 6 inches in my office.

Dont DL ANY OTA's!
I think you're forgetting the whole concept of having a rooted device, devs are able to use otas and other updates in their own roms while maintaining root access.
See usually I would be right on that train of thought, the only reason I'm not is because when I checked the update on the tmo forums it stated it wasn't an OS update just radio. So for ppl like me that just kept the default OS and rooted I wasn't sure that it would make to much of a difference ya know?

i'm unrooted, can someone post up the full OTA so i can flash it? I was rooted but i had to go back to unrooted because i'm waiting for new hardware. i'd love to see what the update does.
I applied this and when I rebooted phone it told me my system was updated to the OTA version...is it only saying this because I ran the radio update?

i believe so. if you rooted and downgraded to the eng-release & then flashed the first radio update chiefz put out, you might recall being greeted w/ the same msg.

Yeah, its only a notification. Everybody gets that message with this radio update.
Btw, thanx CR....I've had this for the last hr or so and data speeds are better and 3g is a little bit more stable....hopefully you can find something with the SPL. Good luck! And thanx again!

Ok thanks and I did apply his first update but I can't recall the message. Seems like this radio update2 is a little weaker I'm not getting as good reception...hmm maybe its just in my head.

Thanks, Chiefz! Someone should add this link into the ROM Bible and the Engineering Build thread so people upgrade directly to this radio instead of the stock.
Should I wipe before flashing update.zip then flashing the radio. or is just flashing update.zip then radio fine? ... currently running superflys latest

You do not need to wipe before flashing this radio.
Thanks man, now I can actually use my phone throughout my whole house... instead of just my daughter's game/reptile room
Thanks Chiefz! Looking forward to see what all you can do with the OTA!
