Half bricked device ? Bootloader do not work but OS do work ? - G4

Anyone experienced this situation? Half year ago i have made Hard-SPL for my wizard because my 2 year warranty at T-Mobile finished. After i made Hard-SPL everything went good, i flashed many roms with no problem. My last rom is Slim Diamond edition which i wanted to change for new TNT now. But i cannot get to bootloader through RUU and i tried to get there manualy but my Wizard always freezes on a black screen. I have to get out the battery, wait few second, push battery back, and switch on the device. My wizard boots normaly, OS works normaly and i can do everything with no problem. But flashing is restricted area now! Anyone know what to do with this ?

Ok i find the solution by myself. It seems like that Hard-SPL do not really unlock wizard to flash any rom you want. All i had to do was to flash original ROM, from manufacturer, but the original ROMs usualy contains IPL and SPL which would brick the device if it is Hard-SPLed. So i tried to extract the original ROM, removed IPL and SPL images, and tried to flash just OS but flashing process was stuck every 43 % and i had to remove battery and start again. So this was not working too :-( So one czech ROM cooker helped to flash his ROM 1.1 CID-locked editionwhich contains only OS, splash screens and ExtROM. Maybe here presented LOVE Rom should wotk to. So all i must do before flashing new WM6.1 ROM on Hard-SPLed Wizard, is to flash original rom without IPL and SPL (it is important!!) and then i can flash everything i want. If i do not do it i cannot enter the bootloader to flash. Maybe it is normal but i did not read it before, all cookers recomends to flash original OS before flashing new one, but i thought it is just for to be sure that all will be flashed well.http://fenix.metronet.cz/johnny/download/ROM 1.1 CID-locked edition by ppctuning.org.exe

Need some quick help!

I recently flashed my Wizard with TNT WM6 and I am getting all kinds of problems so I am wanting to bring it back to Wizard Love so I can attempt TNT's again and avoid a "bad flash".
My question is, do I need to put the phone in the bootloader (i.e. the 3 colored bars?) or can I flash it with the phone loaded and everything. I am using RUU to flash.
Or do I need to use ShellTool?
If its a G3,then simply hook up the phone with pc and run the RUU,it'll reflash, there's no need to get into Bootloaders (RGB Screen).
But if its a G4,then how did you upgrade first,if through HardSPL,then again just hook up and run the RUU,well,if you used Shelltool, then there's no need to go through again with Shelltool.Get the phone HardSPL once, then you can flash any rom as much as you like
I used shelltool for the first flash, but it kind messed up so I had to redo Wizard Love with the RGB boot loader.
If I remember correctly by "messed up" I think it froze during flashing.
Yes I do have a G4
well do as zabardast_1's has said and flash HardSPL to your g4 wizard and then you can just flash another cooked rom
and added....Don't use ShellTool again even you are using a G4! RUU can be used on G4 directly given that you have installed HardSPL and you are going to flash a custom ROM posted here.
So even though ShellTool kinda messed up, my device is still HardSPL'ed?
To be safe you can flash using Softspl , that is the way i flashed few times althouhg my wizard was hardspl and it was ok. If you have hardspl try using Mun's RUU . Both methods worked fine for me.
Ok, I just re-flashed my G4 with Wizard Love using the RUU that it came with and everything seemed to work fine. Does this mean that my HardSPL was successful? See what I think had happened was I flashed TNT's rom with ShellTool and not RUU after I had HardSPL'ed my device. Could that have had something to do with it?
Thanks for all the help so far, you guys have been very knowledgeable.

Ah! You are mixing up all three methods Shelltool,RUU,HardSPL together, they all are different methods to flash a rom.Shelltool is a different method then RUU(RomUpdateUtility) and HardSPL(Patched IPL/SPL) is altogether a different process to flash and upgrade a G4 device.
Try to read all about these methods for better understanding.
Here, I wud not like to go into details, you can read about these methods in their respective threads.
Flashing wizard_love rom doesn't mean your phone is HardSPL'd ? No,wizard_love rom is a patched rom,it'll flash to any G4 device with original official IPL/SPL (Bootloaders) running on it,but if the phone is HardSPL'd,it flashes patched IPL/SPL,thus tricking it to think its semi-permanent CID unlocked, after this its possible to flash any wm6.1 custom rom.But flashing a wizard_love,it still has its own official IPL/SPL,but you cannot upgrade to any wm6 rom as its not CID unlocked. As a G4 device cannot be CID unlocked like a G3 phone,so KardSPL is applied to make it trick into semi-permanent CID unlock, whereas, its in fact CID locked, but here its possible to upgrade to any wm6 rom, hope you got my point !!!
So,if you want to upgrade to wm6 or flash TNT wm6.1 rom,you have to first apply HardSPL,it'll change the IPL/SPL of the phone, only then you can flash TNT wm6.1 rom
Ok yeah thanks for clearing that up for me I was trying to update my phone with the RUU that came with TNT .20273, but it kept giving me an Error 300 which I am assuming that means its not HardSPL'ed. So from the sounds of it, I would probably like to get my phone HardSPL to I can flash any new roms that come out. I was under the assumption that ShellTool was HardSPL'ing my phone, but I guess not. Before I proceed to the next step, is this the instructions I should be following?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320
EDIT:
Ok, I went ahead and HardSPL'ed my device. I followed the instructions on that thread and everything seems to be working. I get SoftSPL: something something olipro so I am guessing thats good. I am still having problems when I go to flash TNT. I am trying to use the RUU that is included with TNT, but I keep getting Error 300 (Invalid Update Tool).
ok,download 'Mun's RUU' from the HardSPL thread you just posted above and replace the RUU in this zipfile with RUU in the TNT rom and run this replaced RUU,it'll work and flash the rom
I have everything all set and I am rocking TNT .191213. Thanks for all the help guys!!

HTC TYTN turns off at 1% upgrade

Good afternoon,
I have an HTC TYTN , I have upgraded it more than twice with different ROMs without any problem.
This time, I have upgraded it with another ROM , and the process turns my phone off at 1% (and says corrupt ROM file) , vista is my OS, I never had trouble upgrading from it... except this time.
I cannot read the version of my phone anymore but the version of the new ROM . I entered my boot loader , (I have SPL-2.03) in order to flash it. I could see the upgrade process , but at 1%, my phone turns off.
what can be the problem ???.. Any help is really welcome.
Dude, theres a reason that "Flash Hard SPL V7" is plastered all over this forum....
Try reflashing your stock rom. If you recover it then FLASH HARD SPL V7...
Not all roms are able to be flashed because of your CID (Carrier ID), it won't allow an unofficial rom to be flashed. Hard SPL is a work around allowing "cooked" roms to be flashed.
Cheers...

RAPH Paper weight - SPL

Dear all,
I am facing a problem here.
Had a hardware problem with the built in microphone and had to revert back to stock rom/splash screen/Original SPL in that order.
Had no problems reverting the ROM and the original screen back (just a couple of flashes), BUT when I tried to revert back the stock SPL here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=110582&d=1220406410
I renamed the file to RAPHIMG.nbh, copied it to the root of the SD Card and entered bootloader mode and this is what it displays:
RAPH100
SPL-1.90.0000 (Which means a successful flash)
!!! AND THEN THIS !!!
"Upgrade ROM code error"
"Please try again"
This message is located in the last part of the green stripe in the tri color screen (bootloader)
It is then followed by the grey screen automatically which you are supposed to press volume key to start a flash process BUT it just HANGS at Loading...
unabling you to flash anything.
It's actually a friend's phone too so I guess you understand how hard it is....
Any help is appreciated
Thanks in advance
Possible image might be corrupt on sd card, grey screen is shown when it's trying to read sd, have you tried with sd removed? if you get to 2nd tricolor screen with sd removed i would use usb flash to restore it to working order..

Removed the SD and it stays at the tricolor screen with the spl version as mentioned in 1st post.
Also, displaying the Upgrade ROM code error, please try again message
The mode is currently serial
What can I do from here?

You cannot flash an SPL from the bootloader. You need to use SSPL. The directions can be found in the HardSPL thread.

Hey man, thx for stopping by..
If I understand correctly, SSPL runs through the device which is stuck at bootloader currently... or am I hopefully wrong??
If you're at the tricolor screen and it reads serial, that should be fine.. plug in usb and it should switch to usb.. then flash a stock carrier rom through usb.. that should get you up and running and you can then run sspl and flash your spl

Keep in mind im currently on stock SPL, do u think flashing the stock ROM is ok?
That's exactly why i suggested stock ROM, stock SPL will only accept stock ROM's (it will overwrite the spl too so make sure the stock rom you are using is the right one)
dude....i hate to say this...butyou might be s.o.l. at this point. i did the same to my fuze not too long ago... tryingto flash anything to the phone just locks it up.i was lucky enough to bs my way through an att guy to get me a new one (was still under the 30 day warranty).

I had the same problem as you and could not flash any rom, Always get Invalid vendor ID.
You need the right Stock Rom to flash and in my case in the middleeast, the Stock Rom is so far only available in at HTC.
I had to take the phone to HTC Service Center and they flashed the correct Stock Rom and charged me as they did it out of warranty.

Sorry about my last post... I misread your issue.
If you flashed the stock 1.90 SPL from the HardSPL thread, then you will need to ask Olipro (or cmonex) which WWE ROM it originated from. That ROM is the ONLY one your phone will accept.
The steps in reverting SPL for warranty / return state to always do the ROM first so that you do not run into this problem. I had the same issue when I was testing a US 3G Diamond I bought from Best Buy (to become acclimated to TF3D prior to the Fuze's release). I restored the SPL first, and then couldn't get Dutty's ROM off the phone, because I could not locate a downloadable version of the WWE ROM that phone came with. [Luckily, Best Buy Mobile's employees in KOP, PA aren't too clever, and I was able to convince them that the phone came that way. ]

Hmm, then I need to know from which ROM the SPL originated and then flash it.
Thing is, some of the shipped roms available at wiki are just nbh files..
I tried flashing with the wrapper exe and the RaphaelCustomRUU.exe and still all roms I've downloaded don't seem to work.
It's a RAPH100 untied to a network.

Post in the HardSPL thread asking which ROM the SPL originated from. Once you know that, you can download the appropriate ROM from the Wiki.

SPL has nothing to do with the Invalid Vendor ID Error, It is the CID. In another word you can flash SPL 1.95 and still can not flash the AT Rom 1.95.502.5 because the CID is different.

ViperBJK's QMAT features GoldCard generator for current HTC devices that can force RUU to bypass CID check.
Do you know what is the CID of your device?

The CID is determind by the SPL.
Look up the error code posted... everything points to HardSPL. Back in my Wizard days, HardSPL did not exist, and we just did a CID unlocking. This is not the case with newer devices.
All ROMs are not created equal. Each WWE ROM checks for specific information within the SPL, and if it doesn't find what it's expecting, fail...

Where can I know that?
@NotATreoFan && Shafez,
I remember from TyTNII day when Shafez suggested extracting 3.29 and 28 SPLs from the newer shipped 6.1's for a better responsive device.
We could extract and build with htc rom tool if I remember the name of the tool correctly.
Do we have a tool as such compatible with TP? (agreeing with NotATreoFan here)
@Shafez,
Since you think it is not SPL and it is a CID issue, what can I do about it?
Sending it to SVC for repair out of warranty is an option but I'd like to leave it as my last.
Did they provide the ROM or they flashed it for you?
Were u able to make raw files out of it for future use or any1 else has it?
Thx guys and keep the help coming

Since you cannot get past the bootloader, your only option is to find the WWE ROM that matches the SPL you flashed. Even though the HTC ROM Tool "signs" the NBH file, it still won't fool the stock bootloader... if it did, we wouldn't need HardSPL.

[Q] Why Can't I Update My HD2's ROM Back To The Official One!?!?!?!

My phone is running on
OS VERSION:5.2.23569
MANILA VERSION:2.5
ROM VERSION:Cruzer 5th WWE
Radio Version:2.15.50.14
I've had enough of using the Cruzer 5th rom already and wish to update back to the normal Official HTC ROM. I've downloaded the RUU_Updates for both 1.66 and 3.14 and both have failed in updating the phone's ROM.
The problem is that once my cpu has detected the phone.
The phone will then reset and get's stuck on the screen which has a few colors.(The one we use to check our HD2's flash version like HSPL). Then the loader on the screen of my CPU will be stuck at 0%. And guess what...before you know it...the entire operation will cancel and it will say that its not able to update my ROM. What on earth? Please help me. I'm only not able to update back to the official rom software. Apart from that, the other cooked roms which have been made available for download from the other users can be used to update my rom.
I need help. Please help me. Thank You! i look forward to your solutions!!!
You can use other roms and if you look/use the search option your answeres are here somewhere
could be a stuck radio rom, there have been several examples where the radio prevents spl and radio (and hence stock roms) from flashing.
try your CORRECT stock rom from sd card flash, if that fails its either
1 - not actually your correct stock rom or
2 - you are flash stuck. no clue how you would solve that.

I know you said you downloaded the two ROM's from the HTC website. I don't know if you have a TMOUS HD2 then I suggest downloading the official upstream ROM from the T-Mobile website it is the 3.14 ROM.
I think what has happen to you is you had a bad flash and if you flash the 1.66 ROM first then you changed your SPL and now you don't have the correct split to flash the flash the 3.14 ROM. I recomemd you download and use HSPL 4 to change your SPL to SPL 3.03.0000 then try to flash the update ROM. Or you could flash it via your SD card that should force the changing of your SPL with out you doin yourself. JUst my thoughts on the situation.

[Q] htc hd2 stock rom 6.5.3

can somebody please help me, I have flashed 5 different ROM's to my vodafone HD2 and have encountered a varying degree of problems with each one. I would very much like somebody to tell me where I can get a Stock ROM not locked to any carrier so I can reflash my pretty usless fone or indeed to help direct me to a stable cooked ROM that would allow my fone to work again.
Thanks is advance.
P.s - my first post so please be gently, also the last 3 I have tried are Artemis ROM's with no sucessful outcomes.

there is no stock rom that is 6.5.x They are all 6.5
Not sure what you mean by stock rom not locked to a carrier, , do you mean a non branded rom (the ones marked HTC WWE, look HERE or in the various threads in the rom development section.) or do you mean you want to unlock your phone to use any network? in which case no amount of any kind of flashing will do that. Ask voda for a code, or buy one online.
Sounds to me like you need to return all the way to stock and start over. Get any of the voda roms from that link above (theyre marked vodaphone, you cant miss em, theres a 1,43 one, a 1.66 one ((if you're a brit)) or 1.72 if you have a european language voda.
Get that, and either
1 - remove hspl by running hspl.exe and choosing 1.66.0000
then
2 - run the downloaded rom.exe and flash over usb
or
1 - extract ruu_signed.nbh from the rom.exe you downloaded,(look it up if you dont know how) copy it to a formatted fat32 sd card smaller than 8gb, and rename it leoimg.nbh then start the phone into bootloader and it will ask you if you want to flash.
that way you are back to teh start, and you can apply hspl and start again.
(For people reading this thinking 'he didnt say do a task29',, its my understanding that using the official .exe to flash the rom does a task 29 anyway, and its been edited out of customruu.exe so it can be used to flash radios without wiping the rom,,,correct? yes no?)
I try 6 Rom but noone will work fine
Vodafone rom 1.72
I am not looking to unlock the fone, simply find a Rom that is 6.5.3 that is stable. I have just flashed back to voda 1.72 but that is 6.5, im fussy and don't like the start button at the top. I'm in scotland so need something that will work here ok on vodafone.
I was hoping to find a rom that had not been altered and as such an original (Stock) ROM.
your help is much appreciated.
There are no such stock roms for the HD2. If you want to flash a stable rom in the style you like (start button at the bottom) then you will need to HSPL (search the forum) your phone and I suggest you start with Dutty's rom. It's very stable and as close to stock as can be. You can always flash back to an original rom for warranty reasons if you need to.
tnx, trying one now. fingers crossed.
ok, just flashed one of duttys roms but now my phone will not boot, it turns on and stays at the htc splash screen. Wont turn off have to pull out the battery. If it will not boot how can I re-flash it? Any suggestions?

I hope you did some reading before you flashed!!
Put your phone into bootloader by holding the vol down side key and use a pen to push the little reset button when the back cover is removed. You should get a tri colour screen which shows you the hspl version you have. If you do this you can flash the correct radio which is probably why the phone will not boot.
all I have done previously is downloaded .nbh files and used SSPL_RUU.exe to flash and they have all flashed sucessfully, but with the after effects of either connection problems or freezing issues.
I have managed to re-flash to the vodafone 1.72 software so at least it is working again, this is not by any means where my talents lie. im a hardware guy, not software, so finding this all a bit confusing. I may just go with the artemis v33 rom which seemed to work the best apart from occassion signal dropouts.
Just out of curiosity - which hspl and radio are you using?
in the settings it says radio 2.07.51.22-2 and i believe the hspl was 1.42
