COULD MODs CARE ABOUT GPS error here - a long time has fixed for many guys - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

Hi Mods!
I really sorry that I have to open new thread, because I and some others also posted here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405016&page=4
but it seems that no one can solve that problem correctly. And MODs seems that don't know about that problem.
So, could MODs give us some ideas and solutions.
For example: I used Original ROM, GPS with TT7 was OK.
But when I change to another ROM (any other ROM), it was so good that everything works well but not GPS.
Hope to hear from u soon.
Thank you.

You do know about the problem with validating maps for a new installation of TT7 ?
Do a google for this in xda -devs.

i used this TT7 on Kaiser and it worked like a champ.
and from your instruction, I also sink to another sea that the need information is somewhere but could not find out.
could u pls give me a better ideas. pls don't tell me that: google something in somewhere.
I spent so much time to discuss and post somewhere else.
thanks

Clarify.
Please explain the type of gps problems your having, Problems with getting fixes? Problems with tomtom?

I need yr help
thanks friend
My problem is here.
When I bought x7501, I installed TT7.45 with Map of North America. It work fast and better than Kaiser I had.
Then I tried to Up ROM to SPL 3.5 (every ROM for 3.5) and I could not use GPS. TT7 work but it only show the working screen with: Waiting for valid GPS signal... forever. And when I find the GPS position, it says: Poor signal.
I tried to change Radio version but failed.
I also tried to convert back to SPL 1.2 now and working with Official ROM 6.0 (but with SPL 1.2 Oliprof). I tried to change Radio version, from 1.47 to 1.57 to 1.58 but failed. So strange (because I had to format the drive when I convert back from SPL 3.5 to SPL 1.2 so I lost my backup file for SPL 1.2 for original ROM).
Now I can not receive GPS signal.
I also try to install GPS Proxy, but this program doesnt run in my Athena, it says: Negative exception and quit.
I aslo try to change th port for GPS to another COM port, but it will not turn on GPS device.
In my Athena, the default COM port for GPS is COM4.
So, that's my problem.
Could you help me with detail instruction.
So thanks and wait for your help

try
you can try going to
settings/system/external gps/
*
software port com 4,hardware leave it at none, set baud 9600,manage gps automatically checked

*
it should instantly have fix!

thanks friend
i hope it will work
i try it now then tell u later
but do u mean that it works for AP 4 only? or another rom?

What Radio do you have installed
i am confused because your sig says you have radio 1.57 but you say in your post above that you couldn't upgrade from radio 1.47.
AP4 needs at least radio 1.50 according to here http://www.htc-hackers.com/uploads/AP4_How_To_1.8.pdf

Steps are optimal for michy roms,ap4 gps should be blistering fast "out the box"! When I used ap4 I was using radio 1.57,and even indoors I had gps fixes in 30 secs after soft resetting.
As of now I use radio 1.58 for hsupa on michy 6.1 rom and have fairly good gps.The steps above emulate my settings with exception of rom.

GOOD NEWS - GPS is working like a rabbit
Hi friends
Firstly, so thanks to all of my new friends, who were trying to reply and show me the way to solve the problems.
Secondly, I want to give u the good news. Now GPS is working as a champ.
But it is a little bit difference with some guides from u.
- I follow the steps above and change the baudrate to 9600, but after reset, it comes back to 4800 as default.
- The COMPORT for program is COM 4. For the hardware, I set default is NONE.
- Then, I install VisualGPS.BeeLineGPS.v1.83.Build.125 and reset. After that I run Visual GPS Beeline first, it works after 20 seconds and lock my location when I stay in my car (The weather now is -1 celcius degree outside - very cold).
- Then I run TOMTOM, I choose BUILT IN GPS (but not other NMEA). And TOMTOM works perfectly after 10 seconds - I did that because I remember that I always chose BUILT IN GPS when I used TT7 with this one two weeks ago.
And here are some tests after that:
- I turn on Wifi, open DATA connection (that is a issue when I use Kaiser, if Data connection is opening, TT7 can not receive the signal), then open TT7 (without openning the VISUAL GPS), it works after 12 seconds.
- I come into my room (the second floor in a three floors house) and turn on TT7 without using any other software, it lock after 10 seconds with average 5-8 sats.
WOW. It can't be better.
But I still don't know which one help which one. Because, when I installed TT7, then I run it for the first time yesterday, it said: could not run because of the memory available.
Then I try to run GoogleMap (even if I did not connect to Wifi - so ofcourse GoogleMap only turned on but did not run with data), then I tried to open TT7 again and it run (confuse here, who can explain to me)
The problem only now is.... WIFI. I hope can fix it soon as the instructions from CMONEX.
Thanks friends.

slight correction
just a minor correction to guide after you stating baud rate returning to 4800, in external gps settings on hardware tab to change baud I notice you need to set hardware com port to com 5 first then setting baud to 9600 ,then click ok to save.Go back in external gps settings and back to hardware tab ,as you will notice settings saved but now this time select none in hardware port and leave baud at 9600 then hit ok.
As I remember in ap4 4800 baud was default and worked best with that rom anyway, and so far it works for you.I do recommend setting use other nmea in tomtom input your baud and software com port settings from external gps control panel because you used visualgps to boot up your gps to get sat fixes for tomtom, with these settings you dont have to use visualgps to warm it up.Make sure you update your quickgps evrey 2 days then soft reset and hold phone by window or go outside when you use gps with new emphemeris file from quickgps as it can take a lil bit longer to regain track ironically ,but once you get fix itll be super quick no matter where you are, even if you soft reset. The only time you need to have clear view of sky again to get sat fix is if you turn off device completely for an hour or 2, or update quickgps data agn in 2 days (up to full 3 sometimes) or flash a new rom :>.
For wifi,I dont kno how to fix, cmonex prob has to send you a special file to regain mac address so wifi can work even after spl changes.

Radio Rom 1.35

Sorry if this is a dumb Question but I have not been able to find a true answer.
What is the advantage of updating My Radio Rom from 1.20 to either 1.27 or 1.35 or should I leave well enough alone.
Its up to you, the 1.35.00.11 version of the radio has the GPS chip enabled, but as you will see in the GPS thread the GPS chip works but has no antenna. The radio should be more stable, and i noticed an increase in the range of my 3G area with it. Make sure to use the version available here (at the top) because they push "des SSPL" to the phone so you dont need to worry about which bootloader or CID you have (not that it matters about CID with radio upgrades...but you know what i mean )
Thanks, i'll probably upgrade to 1.35 using the link you provided
Just upgraded, very straightforward.
One slight issue. After upgrade and soft reset I could not make a data connection.
I made a voice call just to check that was working . . .
then all was OK.
Don't know if the voice call sorted it or what
just make sure you have GPS off or your battery will be in for a ride

Hi,
I also flashed 1.35 nice and easy. So where can you turn GPS off ?
Thanks for the help

Don't worry, GPS isn't enabled unless you install the VRSerial driver (which aint easy....). Even then, it's only turned on when an application specifically opens the GPS comm port.

Hi Sleuth255,
thanks for the help on this issue. I do not indent to install VRSerial. I do have an external GPS mouse which is fine for me.

I recently upgraded and it was a major improvement for me. Far fewer dropped calls, better reception, etc.
I have noticed a noticeable decrease in in-call volume...is this an issue with this rom? At max volume, I have trouble hearing in a noisey environment...never had this problem before.
RUU_1.35.00.11_radio_only.exe wants to connect to the internet?
I upgraded my radio rom yesterday and kept the installation file, RUU_1.35.00.11_radio_only.exe, on my laptop. I downloaded the file with the link supplied in the wiki page.
Now today I get a warning from my f-secure saying that the exe file “RUU_1.35.00.11_radio_only.exe” wants to connect to the internet. I clicked deny and it kept trying to connect four more times then it stopped. I scanned the file for viruses and Trojans but F-Secure didn’t find any.
Anyone else had the same problem or perhaps knows whats going on?

its probably thinking that access to the ActiveSync device (which as far as i am aware is via tcp over usb) i wouldnt worry about it. disconnect from the internet if you are.

If the phone won't start, after flashing radio 1.35, simply reflash the SO.

Did you upgrade from 1.34.00.10 or a lower version radio ?
Would like to know if there is any "real" advantage to upgrade from 1.34.00.10 to 1.35.00.11 ?
I am experiencing some missed calls due to the always GPRS / 3G connection I am running for emoze push mail.

GPS on WM6 What I am doing wrong?

Hey all,
I have my athena for a couple of days now but I still can't get the GPS to position. As it is a T-mobile Ameo I used Oprio's Unlocker first. Everything went fine and now I can use it with every SIM. Then I upgraded with the WM6 Dopod U1000 and so far so good. The only thing that worries me is that I can't get the GPS to work. I tried both OziExplorer and Googlemaps, also BeelineGPS and GPSTuner. None of these programs can find a satellite and obtain a position. Am I missing some settings or maybe there are no satelites over my area?
OPp and something else that bothers me. Is the Status Display just not working under WM6 or it's only by me so?
I have the x7500/Advantage and GPS works after updating to WM6. I haven't yet unlocked my phone because i'm waiting for the cooked ROM's to be released before I go through this.
Have you installed maybe some other software that uses GPS and see what happens or are you trying it with just one program?
have you changed the gps settings in start-settings-system-external gps?
I use software-none hardware-5 baud-9600 tick-manage auto.
run quickgps first before you try any of your programmes, and let it update, this will give your progs satellites to look for and speed things up a bit, it does take some time to get a fix.
you haven't tried selecting it as a sirf-star have you? that will stop it working and need the battery leaving out for a while..

yep I tried both COM5 and COM4 with 4800/9600, also ran the QuickGPS.
What do you mean by selecting it as a sirf-star?
some software (for example memory map navigator) gives you the option to select different types of gps receiver protocols, there are a few. garmin, navman, magelan, sirf, nmea,
nmea is what the 7500 uses, but if you select sirf-star then it appears the gps shuts down, and the best way of restoring it at present is to either take the battery out or if you're lucky just hard reset it.
I did this
No, I haven't selected sirf. Is there some simple GPS software just to try whether the integrated GPS is working? Could it be just that there are no satellites over my area?
Come on guys, tell me how you get your GPS to work. Should I go back to WM5 or maybe change the Radio ROM? All the programs I tried still can't find any satellites? Any suggestions for other settings?

I don't have an answer for you, but I can tell you that the GPS satellite system covers the whole planet, so there are some over your area. Sounds like it could be a hardware problem.
Hmm I know but althoufh I am in the city centre it shout find at least 1-2 satellites. Maybe I should go somewhere out of the city and try there. I still doubt that there's something wrong with the settings or the software.
i had the same problem, using AMEO, unlocked using olipro unlocker.. GPS never worked afterwords .. the SIRFbootloader section in the ROM isn't updatable getting a communication error and that is it. I've to return it to T-mobile.. don't know how to remove the Olipro bootloader and how i can get back the original T-mobile rom!
Hope your problem is fixable .. as mine isn't

I did upgrade to Olipro, but I have bever seen any communcation errors. As far as I can tell, every upgrade went fine. My GPS works in 2% of the cases, it takes forever to get a fix, and after even the slightest displacement or move, the fix is gone again.
I am not getting any communications errors. I did all all the settungs as shown on this site http://www.x7501.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1184315093/0
and f.e on Google maps it just shows "Seeking GOS satellites (0)"
On the BeelineGPS I get "Fix not available" and a red circle blinks.
I really don't know what to try more. Maybe should I flash another Radio ROM or get back to WM 5.0? Any other suggestions?
mine too after upgrading to WM6, my quickGPS is not able to download the satellite data via Activesync. i used to be able to do so on WM5... whats wrong?
try this!!
Unplug battery then plug it again, this will help your mobile like factory reset !

For tests I am using old small app which was fro PPC2003. It works fine with my Advantage X7500 on Com4 and 4800 baud rate in WM6. It usualy starts showing satelites after 1 minute or so.
I have attached it here.
Edit:
I never tried to use quickGPS via ActiveSync. I use vsta. However it works fine and downloads GPS inf via WLAN/GPRS/UMTS or what is actualy available.
Did you do step 2 and three of Olipro Unlock
Step 2 Sends A Radio Rom to Unlock and step 3 a Rom tha make your GPS work again
It says so in the Olipro Unlock Documentation

Instructions:
** YOU MUST BE UNLOCKED BEFORE BEGINING! SEE STICKES FOR UNLOCK DETAILS FIRST! WE WILL NOT SUPPORT UNLOCKING IN THIS THREAD JUST FLASHING.
Flash ROM from RUU folder using ROM Update utility. Sync with Active Sync before starting upgrade utility. This ROM flashes just like any other Custom ROM.After flash is complete phone will boot up and AutoRun will start setting up. Do not try to stop this! Phone will reboot on its own when completed.
When Phone boots back up wait for the system to finish loading then...
1. Start Dialer by clicking Green Phone button
2. Dial *22899 and let the programming start. Phone will reboot when completed
3. Click Start -> Programs -> Navigation -> GPS Prep. Install it to the device and not storage card. When install is complete click OK. You should be back in the programs menu under Navigation.
4. Now you see an Installation folder as well as GPS Prep. GO into install folder and run "Run PPST". Select OK to proceed with update. When that is finished select OK when prompted to reboot.
5. Now we need to enable GPS in windows and verify the PRI update worked. Start phone by pressing green button. Service should now say Sprint instead of VZW. You will need to make a call to do this. Dial your voice mail. It should ring in to it no problem and the carrier should now say sprint on the screen instead of VZW. If it does then proceed to next step. If not go to step 1 and start over.
Now click Menu -> Options -> Serivces Tab -> Location Settings -> Get Settings -> Location On -> OK ->ok
6. DONE!
At this point you are done and GPS is unlocked. You can start installing the included GPS apps if yiou choose.
**The included apps have been modified to put the shortcuts in the Navigation Folder under programs. They are the latest versions respectively as of 20 Dec 2008 11:49PM Central Time. They can be uninstalled later to accommodate updated software! Don’t ask in the thread because you will look really silly as I have answered the question here.
Installing Live search and Google Maps then making them compatible, Step by Step!
How to set up Live Search
Install application from \Navigation\Installation\
After installing the application will launch.
Select Menu -> Settings. Arrows Done to GPS COM0 and change it to GPS COM4. Select Done
Now select Map. This brings up the default map. Next turn on GPS by pressing Menu -> Center on GPS.
It can take a few minute for a first fix. After that it much quicker. I also recommend toggle Center GPS on and back off again if it doesn’t pick up in under 90 seconds as a matter of fact the program will force you to. If it forces you to then click Ok then toggle “Center on GPS” off then back on and it will lock quickly! First lock is always hard on fresh flash. After that you should be good to go.
How to set up Google Maps
Install application from \Navigation\Installation\
After installation Google Maps will load for the first time.
Select Menu -> Options -> GPS Settings
Select Set manually and then arrow down and select COM4 then change baud rate to 4800. Now click ok.
Now Select Menu -> Use GPS and you will then lock on!
TomTom7
Install as normal and let it configure the GPS automatically as normal when starting up for the first time.
Done!
Remember: Be patient! It may take a couple soft reset to get it to work but it will. Trust me. Worse case scenario I had with a flash was I had to try twice in Live search then exit live search, toggle location off and back on, restart Live Seach and it locked instantly. Most of the time it will lock on the second try. Its been about 90% consistent under 60 seconds for me. A brand new phone took only two tries with live search and it got it within 15 seconds on the second try.
Note 1: This was done on a brand new in Box XV6850 straight from the VZW store and worked as stated above. These were also conducted using the stock Radio. This was done in the office basement of my house completely below ground. These are results are repeatable as I have don’t them at least 8 times now on two different phones.
Note 2: I have not applied anyother fix to my phone other than the steps listed above. I have not applied the aGPS fix either.
If you want to change the banner than follow the thread for the GPS fix by bored. There are instructions in there on how to fix the banner from Sprint to Verizon.

Ok some users having issue getting the golden first lock try this:
Its cheating but it works. Call VZW and add VZ Navigator to your account. Its free for 30 days. Download and install it. Use the My Location to get a fix. Exit VZ Nav. Start live search, google, tom tom whatever and it will lock right away because the GPS is primed. Once you get that first lock you are godo to go!!! Call VZW at end of 30 days and cancel.
It does take patients. I had it not work right away on about 3 of 15 times trying it since it was out. It will work but requires patients. When paitents runs out try the above.
You can also try the aGPS fix aswell as using the GC provisioning cab. Some users said tha tmakes teh differnece for them.
My best advice: Soft reset and toggle GPS off and then on in phone options. Styart live search and try again. It may take a couyple times but it does work ;c)
About to give this a try, you and bored are f*ckin great!
Ill be back with confirmation and appropriate thanks if all works out!
*sigh* i just have to charge up to 50% battery first lol

Hahahah, I will have tell you how to get around that one day. You think my battery ever makes it OVER 50% hahahaha.....
How to get around: Put phone in bootloader mode. Active sync doesnt check battery status. I flash on 5 to 10% battery most of the time. hahaha... I dont recomend this to anyone other than myself.
Dont try this with the hard PSL though!!!!!!
Thanx Scott, will try this out in a bit. Flashing this stuff is an addiction now...

Good, glad to see my addiction is spreading and no longer contained to just me! Hahahaha...
Let me know what you think.
Just an FYI: You do not have to apply the GPS fix if you choose not too. The ROM can be used as is.
I've been waiting until there was a GPS fix before flashing a custom ROM; did this one this morning and works like a charm. I haven't customized anything yet; just installed the ROM, my Exchange settings, the GPS fix and Windows Live, and it works like a charm so far.
I'll be able to answer this myself shortly; but did you put Voice Command back in?
Thanks so much for all your work.
I have flashed to this ROM and I am not able to get the GPS to work at all.
I am going to reflash the ROM and try again and report back on any progress.
I hope this works for me.
Thanks for your work and Bored as well.
You guys are the reason I went to HTC over Samsung.
You guys ROCK!
Tom Tom Navigator
You mention using the gps with TomTom Navigator 7. Do you know if it would be the same in TT Nav 6 which is what I have? Is there a TTNav7 for US or a way to use it on US maps?
Can someone point me towards more information on the GPS fix? this truly unlocks Verizons GPS for use of any GPS app?
EDIT: oops. Found the info I needed.
Thank to you Scosler, I have been really enjoying my touch pro.
So I reflash the ROM and I am still not able to connect as smoothly as others have been able to.
I followed all directions and still no GPS! UGHHH
Scott, I checked the Device Info for my PRO and saw the following info:
ROM Version = 1.00.0.0
ROM Date = 09/12/08
Radio Version = 1.03.03V
Protocol Version = 7500J-SDCBBPZM-6150
Hardware Versio = 0002
PRL Version = 51143
PRI Version = 1.53_003
Browser Version = MSIE 6.0
ERI Version = 4
Is this what it is supposed to be?
If not, What did I screw up?

Scott, I checked the Device Info for my PRO and saw the following info:
ROM Version = 1.00.0.0
ROM Date = 09/12/08
Radio Version = 1.03.03V
Protocol Version = 7500J-SDCBBPZM-6150
Hardware Versio = 0002
PRL Version = 51143
PRI Version = 1.53_003
Browser Version = MSIE 6.0
ERI Version = 4
Is this what it is supposed to be?
If not, What did I screw up?

Nope thats what its supposed to be. Just be patient. Make sure location is turned on, try to get a good a spot where you can see the sky.
I just compared mine to a sprint phone with aGPS and mine actually locked about 15 seconds faster. It took my 7 seconds to lock. Took him 23 seconds.
Try toggling location on and off. Do it while you are trying to connect with live search. It may seem to freeze the phone. If it does it means GPS is working because it wont let you toggle. If thats the case then go back into live search and toggle GPS off again. Then toggle the location setting off and back on. Thats what it took for me one time.
Its touchy the first time but not like that the second and subsequent times.
Be patient, it does work. I couldnt get it to work the very very first time. I had to play with Location Settings off then on a couple times and soft reset a couple times and I was GOLDEN. Most of the flashes I have done already just require the toggle off then on trick.
Be patient, it works. You will get it. Leave your phone by a window if you ahve to and come back in 5 minutes. I think watching the display makes it lock slower ;c)

Did you even read the first post? The fix is in the ROM. Just follow instructions.
If you want the fix without the ROM its over at PPC Geeks.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=49933. THis can be applied to some existing Custom ROM's, any and all versions of my custom ROM, and the stock ROM. Not all custom ROM's have been reported to work. I see three posts for the NexVision ROM stating it doesnt work. I cant say one way or the other. I only use my own ROM's.
This new ROM works like a champ! I followed the instructions exactly and it worked first time without any issues. Great work!

Hey guys, glad you liked it! Good stuff or what?
I found TomTom 7.45 locks THE FASTES out of all GPS apps. I locked with TomTom and Live search was in the background still trying to lock.
I also compared my phone against a Sprint Cooked ROM on a Sprint device and my **** locked 3x faster than the sprint device.
Here was the conditions:
Temp -15 F
Time 10:00am
Location downtown Fargo ND
My ROM on my XV6850
Sprint Cooked ROM from PPC Kitchen on Sprint device (Co-Worker)
Both OS were 20931 builds.
We both walked down the stairs form our "vault" of an office. We both flicked on TomTom and stood side by side. Mine locked in 7 seconds, his locked in about 23 seconds. A full 15 seconds difference. **** Sprint and all the **** that was talked. I consisitenantly get faster locks than a sprint device.
FTW!!! MY ROM KICKS ASS. FTW!!!! llllboredllll forever!
Having issue with GPS. When i try to enable location to ON, it just hangs, I get the busy icon and it doesnt do anything. I can push OK and it dissappears but gps doesnt work in any program. I tried rerunning all the gps tools but nothing works. When i restart the phone in settings it shows location ON, but it still doesnt work. When i try to turn it off, it hangs again.
Scott,
I haven't installed this new ROM yet but I wanted to point out a problem I've been having with the last ROM. When I want to download an attachment within an email in Messaging, the keyboard almost always locks up and I can't save the attachments to my TouchPro. It locks up on the screen where I select where to place the document as a 'Save as'.
Other than that, it's all worked great and I can't wait to try out the new GPS fix!

GPS problems... last try to solve..

Hi. I have GPS problems with my TP. Rom I use is
Energy Rom Genesis (20th September)
Radio: 1.14.25.05
and of course with WM 6.5 build 23016 v 5.2.23016
All apps like GPS test, ChartCross GPS test etc. are still i trouble connecting to satelites. There are that columns, which may be up or down, depends on signal (i suggest) but i have nothing there.. numbers are changing, but no signal, nothing. I tried to install iGo and TomTom and Garmin etc, they found GPS in phone, set it, but then half an hour waiting and nothing happened. It seems to me that there are smoe problems with maybe WM 6,5? Since I have WM 6,5 installed I meet this problems. there were no problems such this before.
I had gps problems with eliterc4(winmo 6.1) with the same radio version as yours. after I changed to energy rom build 21864 (winmo 6.5) I get a gps lock in about 12 seconds..
so it`s not winmo 6.5 fault. try to update your radio to 1.14.25.35
Same here,
The troubles I had with GPS fix were not related to the ROM version. I had the same trouble with several 6.1 and 6.5 ROM's
After switching to radio 1.14.25.35 I have a fix within one minute.
Of course, don't forget to use quick GPS to locate the birds to get a quicker fix.
have you tried the official gps fix available on htc site ? That fix solved all my gps problems
When you invoke GPS Test, what do you see. Are there any bars ? If yes then how many and what's the reading of those bars.
If you do not have any bars, click menu->GPS setting. Make sure it is Com-4 and 4800 baud.
Try GPS test outside (open air) and see if you get any bars. If you do then see if they improve by time. Usually first lock take 2-3 minutes, sometime more.
Do report here, and I should be able to help you.

i use port 38400 and fix is near instant from a cold reboot. with the .25.35 radio of course.
i use standart 4800 baud rate with com4, and before i start any gps navigation software i try to update quick gps, then run GPS tool to find fix and then TomTom or any other software

I have installed recomended radio, and drove by car like 30 minutes around trying to get signal from iGO, but nothing. GPS test freezes on "GPS Starting up" GPS port is on 4 and Baud rate on 4800(It is responding, so not ordinary freeze, but I mean that its just doing nothing).
There are several columns with numbers under them (or bars I sugest this is what you think) Numbers are following: 32, 24, 29, 02, 22 ,18, 04, 11 and they change (but after few minutes they are in this order, and then again some other variations) I think, that one of variations is starting with 30 and the other with number 17 HDOP is still 0,00 and FIX is 1D.
Or what should I try ? I have been using iGO GPS when I was on WM 6,5 I think already, It was PROven Rom, but I dont remember which version, so i cannot try to flash it and test it.
One more thing- GPS test has been running as I was preparing for a drive (maybe 5 minutes) on a parapet of an opened window, But it didnt catch a signal.
I have found GPS fix on HTC page, I will post some new experiences tomorow, please If you have any idea, tell me.
Getting a fix whilst moving is normally a lot harder than if you are static.
The Raphael GPS is not the best and can be quite laggy.
Ensure that AGPS is disabled as this is not supported by most cell networks at present. Update the quick GPS software.
Find an area with a clear view of the sky and you should get a fix within seconds.
AGPS is noramlly the cause of the GPS not getting a fix at all.
AGPS settings can be found in Setting\System.
Cheers,

Hello everybody.
I just adquired Raphael from ebay and was having the same problem.
Or i did, all solutions provided are correct but for this particular problem they are not.
In short, was its the problem ?
Well, both HTC screwed up the Raphael perhaps in the rush of lauching it to the market, to achieve sales. Both WM 6.1 and 6.5 will sufer from this so there isn't a safe ROM or Radio.
The procedure to solve this is this webpage:
http://eduardoarruda.wordpress.com/2009/03/11/htc-touch-pro/
Ain't advertising nothing and don't know if i can share this page like this, but i have done the procedure in my HTC Touch Pro, and it has worked, Tom Tom 7 is now working.
Try it yourself (only if your GPS stopped working).
Pro: Works pretty well, gps takes a little bit to fix on satellites ~3 sec.
Against: Hard reset only when needed, when truly needed. Or do everything again.
Basically:
1 - Update ROM to most recent and the best for you.
2 - Disable HDSPA, it seems that it causes problems in connecting to 3G network
3 - Yes, you can update QuickGPS and follow the rest of the procedure which shows the shorcuts to edit the registry and images to ilustrate that.
If its necessary i can translate it, but dunno whose credits its belong.

Also. if you go into GPS settings, make sure you have "auto" as port number.

Just wanna say, that those editing of the registry are working for both WM6.1 and WM6.5.
Its essential that you update the QuickGPS, since without it, it wont work.
By the way, it took 12 seconds to lock on satellites. Its not the best, but its better than nothing.

Copy CleanGPSData.exe to phone (attached here) and run it once. Soft reset your phone. Try QuickGPS once again. CleanGPSData will reset your GPS.

Have you tried the fix provided by HTC itself ?
When I first got my Touch Pro I was very disappointed with the gps support (well I was disappointed with almost everything). After numerous tests I have a combination that proves to be almost perfect.
1. I run the latest Shep rom (but I guess the GPS functionality is not closely connected with the rom)
2. I have radio 1.14.25.35 installed
3. I have the rilphone.dll from radio version 1.12.25.19
4. I have applied the GPS fix from the official HTC site
After these 4 moves I get a gps fix from cold boot in less than 30 seconds and sometimes it is even less than that.
The only small problem I still have is that if I am doing more than a 100 km/h on a high way I get a 2-300 meter lag. This lag stays almost the same up to 160-180 km/h. In lower speeds I do not face this problem. This lag I have figured also has to do with the port speed settings and I need to do some more testing with Destinator and iGO to determine the optimum setting. Most of the times I use the gps is for navigating down town where the speeds are low and so the problem isn't visible.
Since I am mentioning radios and rilphones I have to say that this combination also gives me the best signal reception and the battery usage is also low.

Sorry for the time passed.
But after some reading and some tests, here it goes.
_Crass_ just go to your registry and change the value of PollInterval.
Its value can be 100 or 500, tested with 500 and it takes some to update its position, but the satellite fix is fast.
The value with 100 it does the job, updates the position a little bit faster but the battery goes also a little faster, which i would say its pretty normal, since the use of GPS always require battery comsuption above normal.
The HTC fix speeds up fix (at least for me a noticed it), and unlike said in other topics, it ain't the same as GPSCleanData, since when it coldstarts it still has some data of satellites (its location are still present into the the gps program and its uploaded by the program almost instant), so it aint clean. Regarding the same program, tested it, and its slows down or even makes it impossible the fix of satellites.
Regarding to this, i had everything done without the fix, and watched the signal form satellites and then after some seconds it fixs. But then i had to hard reset, and took the chance to try new ways to speed it up. Besides all changes made, htc fix applied, as soon at it gets signal it fixes. A way lot better than before.
Regarding the procedure heres a link to that same topic in xda-developers.
U cant skip any step, or it wont fix any satellite. only "play" with the PollInterval. Change registry, SR, apply HTC GPS fix and then update QuickGPS. SR.
Tests were done with:
-> T*mT*m v7.915.9196
--> Iberia Map 835
-> G*rmin XT Mobile 5.0.0.20w
--> Portugal&Sapin 2010.20
By the way tried TT, and then shutdown (the program only), tried G*rmin. Started normal and takes the same time both. No complication encountered by changing gps program or no need for restart/SR. If u encountered a problem where by changing gps program u cant put the 2nd to work, i recommend to update your program to the latest buil. Its working fine.
Regarding times, i had a fix of 18 to 20 seconds (why so much time ?), here's why:
{

Well, i only had time to play wih it today, so i did tested, regarding in clean weather, i'm expecting 8~12 sec.
Another important, the PollInterval was tested by changing each value and go from one point to another and see if the GPS program manages to update position.
It was tested with both values, and each time i changed i did a SR.
Any more tries, i sugest that u show your test conditions so "we" can compare results. I also think that HTC Pro suffers form different problems regarding to its use, so therefore it may not work to someone in specific.

I tried, and it seems not having any much difference. I use TomTom with the GPSModDriver and Garmin with the original COM Port 4, i mean, one uses that driver and the other the original.
No difference registered, but if anyone that can at this moment hard-reset its device and test Mandragore solution, he/she would be welcome.
I have been reading the the posts and noticed a lot of simularities between the registry edit:
Mach2003 said:
Thanks for the report Mandragore, and for your support
Here is some information on the GPSID values (as I understand it, corrections welcome).
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]
"IsEnabled"=dword:1 ; Set from External Gps\Access, Manage GPS Automatically, Must be 1 for GPS to work at all.
"MaxLogFileSize"=dword:0
"CurrentLogFile"=""
"OldLogFile"="" ; All three of these would just waste time and memory creating log files of all gps data
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers]
"InputBufferSize"=dword:0200 ; M$ allocates this to read the HTC driver
"OutputBufferSize"=dword:0200 ; Suggested size for the applications buffer size, ModDriver does not use this, but your application (mapping) may.
; A full string of gps data is 460 to 490 bytes long while fixed, CE likes things on page boundaries thus 512 bytes are optimum. Too high values just waste ram usage. As a side note, the M$ buffers allocated are probably done through a call to malloc, and malloc has a header and footer added to each call, so 512 might just waste a bit of ram, 498 might be a bit better).
"RetryWaitOnError"=dword:3 ; not sure if this ever happens
"SleepOnNoData"=dword:01f4 ; GpsModDriver reads this and uses it for napping between reads, data comes from gps at exactly 1 second, half a second allows for slight misses of the data. If we set this to 1000, it would be great, but a millisecond late, would cause an extra second delay. One could set it to a smaller value divisable into 1000 (1,10,50,100,200...), and thus reduce the delay when a string is missed, but then the overall proformance of the phone would go down.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOneDevice]
"PollInterval"=dword:01f4 ; M$ GPSID driver uses this to poll the HTC driver, same explanation as above.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer]
"DriverInterface"="COM4:" ; Set from ExternalGpsPrograms, GpsMod opens this port for reading data, m$ writes to this port
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\ActiveDevice]
"Index"=dword:00000004 ; Your phone uses this to install the M$ driver port, set from ExternalGps/Programs at same time as DriverInterface
"Prefix"="COM" ; Required for serial port access to GPS data.

I prefer edit each one by myself, avoids installing bugging or unstable software by third parties. Besides the fact its working ... pretty good for a very unperfect device.
GPS pretty fastttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Ok, first sorry for the new post. Its a question of startover.
Manage to try GPSModDriver, and here comes the twists.
Tried and there wasn't too much difference regarding the changes in registry that we have seen in this topic. So i decided to uninstall it (vcersion 1.32) to try the newst release, 1.36. Unforntunately, that driver its a pain in regarding unnistaling, this should the first issue to solve in further builds.
So i had to uninstall it manually, i erased the Mach2003 (on My device) threw File Explorer, and then GPSModSetup on /Windows, to it would it be possible to install newest build.
Its a long story yeah ?
Ok, its almost over. I tried to install version 1.36 and it wouldn't because older version still present. I dropped the idea of trying new version and went test my gps programs to see if they still worked.
Now here comes the twists.
Regarding my TT, went back to port 4 and everything is worked as before.
That's ok, 15~18 seconds ain't bad.
Now, Garmin turn. Garmin itself doesn't allow to change port that easily, and thank you for it. Tested with port 4 and the same thing, same time, whatever .... But, this was one of those days, when i feel like truly to screw something up, and whent change the port again and try something different.
Hell yeah, why not ?
So i change to GPS intermediate Driver. Not usual, actually all instructions says to change from this driver.
So the results: I have a fix on satllite with a HTC Touch Pro in ~ 2/3 seconds.
I used shake and save to take this pictures (images on this link):
Here i have GPS Garmin GPS settings working with Port 4:
Now here is the GPS intermediate Driver:
The signal strenght on start menu from Garmin:
Now there are certain things, that should be better be told.
In first, don't now why, but Mach2003 folder with two logs files are still present and being created.
Second, this was done with cloudy weather again.
Third, the signal is a little bit unstable changing a little bit, but i'm guessing is due receiving different satellite signals.
Here comes the ****** part, it requires more time and a lot of testing. Trying the registry tweaks and see if it changes the Intermediate responses. And trying the GPSModDriver and do several tests with one and/or another together or apart and see which one its the best, for GPS fixing.
For now, i'm quite happy with Garmin. TT its loosing since i cant pick that specific driver port.
Oh i almost forgot to mention, the TT is working with integrated device well, fixing satellites and everything. But is a little slower to receive the signal and fixing than port 4. I'm keeping TT on port 4 and garmin on Intermediate driver, and still working as a charm. Lol 1~2 seconds is too fasttttttttt.
So that bit** ain't dead yet !!! If we can see why and built a cab package inserting the wright tweaks on registry, it could put Touch Pro back on the spot light.
I don't know why, but i got feeling, that if thats truly done, HTC will launch a new HotFix doing the same thing. But its just a feeling ...
Just remembered, will try use CleanGPSdata to see if my Po is stll QickGPS dependent* ...
*Hello, my name is HTC Touch Pro, and i am ashamed to say,... , i'm QuickGPS dependent. I'm trying this therapy group so i can give up this insane habit ... its killing me ...
Have no time now, but tomorrow maybe may post back something.
Didn't stop raining in portugal, floodings and etc ...
Later i will post back something.
Cheers.

[Q]Stable work of GPS driver(service)

Hi.
I have got observations from differtent roms ( not anly my roms and with different radios - even last 321 ) that very rarely ( I noticed only once per one tested rom but my tests were too short ) something wrong happens with GPS service. None program gets any data from GPS port. Changing managed port in this case gives nothing. Programs simply do not get any NMEA data.
Maybe return of GPS service from sleep mode is not always correct ?
As I remember some people had similar problems and they had to restart WM.
I detected is is not necessary because it is enough to restart GPS service and all start to work perfect. That is why in my new rom updates ( not in UPDATE3 ) I will include small utility for GPS restart.
Have anybody similar observations ?

Good idea, we have all noticed that a soft reset is necessary to get back gps functionality, so a utility that would do it for us would be great, its a bane of using the TG01, if possible could you make this utility available to all?

Seconded Even after spending some time looking at the AGPS dimension, I've not been completely convinced that there wasn't something else happening - if it can be better controlled by a service management applet, that would be a very useful advance. Would also much appreciate if can be made available (or appropriate advice on config).
Best regards,

Good idea, we have all noticed that a soft reset is necessary to get back gps functionality, so a utility that would do it for us would be great, its a bane of using the TG01, if possible could you make this utility available to all?

Yes, I can share it with all users but it will be difficult to prove it really works ( You have only my word ) unless someone has found a way to "force" GPS service to stop working good. Usage is very simple. After You start it You get message "GPS service restared".
That is all.

Hi everyone, I use the latest version of GPSMod on my TG01 and I have no GPS problems whatsoever.
I am currently using MiROM1_rel5 with 1800 radio and all is fine, even before using this rom (apart from when I tried radio 321) I have never had any issues with the GPS after I started using GPSMod.
I use IGO with my TG01 and you will probably know from other threads that this is probably the worst package to get working on the TG01 but I don’t have any GPS issues at all.
Use the latest version (3_4_2) and keep everything at the default settings and it configures COM2 as the 'new' GPS port and I use this in my SYS.TXT
[GPS]
port="2"
baud_rate="4800"
I have just come back from Italy and when I turned on my TG01 outside Nice airport and I got a lock in less than 2mins and using my TG01 in and around Italy no issues and when I returned back to good old UK it took a couple of mins to get the first fix but its been fine.

Hi.
We do not say about any regular GPS failure but about very rare cases.
Nobody knows when it happens so it can concerns Your solution too.
It would be desirable that users who met this problem, tell us what GPS drivers/software they used when it happened.

Igo varients normally lose signal or find sats, then lose signal, radio 0321 improves things a lot for me, but still... GPS signal lost is a common problem, and it never really recovers until a soft reset.

Could You describe it more ?
Do You know whether and how to cause such "unrecoverable" situation so that to get 100% prove my "GPS restarter" really could help ?

I can probably prove this using GPSTest on my current radio, if not IGO will do it

Ok. I will try to upload my utility maybe today evening or tomorrow.
Do what You can to "damage" GPS and apply restarter.
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12492189&postcount=1
my utility.
Remember to stop all navigation software before execution of this utility.

Its easy to damage GPS, start a gps app, then exit it, gps no longer works till you restart the device, thats how its always worked for me, anyway, after trying your app, still have the same problem. I am sure others can also test for you.

Hmm, I guess it must be other kind of problem. I have never had a situation when navigation software "kills" GPS ( Ozi Explorer and Garmin Mobile XT ). It was rather after return tg01 from sleep or something other.
1) Do You utilize "standard" GPS driver from any official ROM ?
2) Do You use managed port ( which ) or hardware port ?
3) It happens only with IGO software or any other You execute ?
I have created some simple "terminal" software for PNA devices so maybe we could do some kind of diagnostic.
P.S. As a matter of fact my utility restarts "managed port service" not real gps driver. I can see I have to modify my utility for You. I will restart both: GPS driver and gps service. Maybe it will help.

Glad you figured out the problem, i wasn't suggesting that your utility definately didn't work, but i used some simple gps tests, IGO, wait for it to find some sats, then exit, after exit, no gps programs can work again till soft reset, same with the simple GPStest 1.04, i think if your utility restarts both, you will have a very robust little utility.

You can "kill" GPS too simply. Maybe problem is rom dependent or mentioned
applications bahaves in wrong way. Any other users of the same rom report this problem ?
Could You give me any link to download GPStest 1.04 and write some explanations how You used to utilize it ? Just simple steps to "kill" GPS.
It seems to be simple application so I can test what happens .

You can download GPS Test here
Its very simple application, it scans com ports for gps, then just tests how many sats can be found, very very siimple, but very useful for testing whether you can get a lock or not.
So, run gps test, scan for ports, wait for a lock, then exit program, then restart, see if it works again, for me it would not, this may also be dependant on radio, i am currently using mirom8 with radio 0300
I know it doesn't fix the problem but with GpsMod I can start IGo, exit then open Google maps (which is also set to COM2) then exit, then open something like PUTTY and use COM2 then exit and go back to IGo all without having to soft reset and every application working.
It would be great if we could get the gps to work as good an htc gps but for those having problems with the gps then GpsMod is the answer.

I think it is rom/gps driver dependent. I tested GPS via GpsTest. Works perfect.
To catch first 3d fix my tg01 needed a little time. It is obvious.
Then I exited and started GpsTest few times. Every time after start, it showed immediately 3d fix and at least 5-6 sattelites.
P.S. I always utilize COM4 managed port.

OK, it must be IGO, what would be useful then, is if the uitility had a mortscript or batch type ability, say you go to run a GPS utility or a GPS navigation application, your utility restarts gps driver and service, then runs program, then does a driver/service restart upon exit. I think its IGO that takes over the port, obviously other people may not have this problem, but i have noticed it on many roms.

What my utility potentially can do , You can do manualy so we will know whether it will help. So when You "kill" gps , do as follows:
1) Execute fdcTaskmanager.
2) Go to services
3) Stop gps service
4) Go to devices
5) Stop gps driver
6) Start gps driver
7) Go to services
8) Start gps service
9) Exit fdcTaskManager
If now IGO or other software will show satelites, modification of my utility have sense to fix Your problems.
