mount for bike? - Touch HD Accessories

hi all is there a dedicated mount for my blackstone?
or can you suggest an alternative....
i want to attach it to the handlebars on my mountain bike, so i can use the gps whilst off roading (notice i said off roading!) so it needs to be REALLY secure!

Yes, Me TOO, I went for a ride to day and wanted exactly the same thing. I would like one that could still let me leave my silicon case on if possible.

mount for bike
You can try this one. http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/3164.htm

I recently bought the Ram-Mount Aqua box (ram-mount.com) for my motorcycle, but it can be used on bikes as well. It's pretty big, but VERY sturdy and waterproof (at least in the rain, not if you drop it in a bucket of water )

i use this one from brando
works perfect! it fits secure! you just have tocut in it a little so that the volume buttons stay untouched!
butfor me im using it with speeaker phone and with music on full volume when out biking!
becouse i dont want to use headset so i dont hear the trafic!

that looks like almost the perfect solution, (the others were in the usa)
i have done a quick search on flebay and found a seller that sells the leather case for the htc touch AND the bike holder! apparantly all i have to do is remove the back and swap clips over! as the fitting is universal!
krussell is a quality brand and the price for the 2 items (from fleabay) came in less than the retail price for just the case from the official site!

Looking for a recommendation for a good car holder for a car with stiff suspension

I am looking for purchase a car mount/holder for my car. However, as i drive a sports car the suspension is very stiff and therefore I need something that will cope with a very bumpy ride (some of the UK's roads are terrible at the moment!). I also use hire cars frequently, so I need something that is interchangeable between vehicles and therefore can't go for one of the brodit models that is specific to my vehicle.
I received a PDA model specific, European made, heavy duty PDA holder for the HTC Touch HD, by Herbert Richter (http://www.pdahut.com/store/product.php?productid=21157&cat=2385&page=1), but this vibrates quite badly so it will be going back.
Therefore, does anyone have any suggestions for a very sturdy car holder that is transferrable between vehicles that will cope with the rigours of a GTi's very firm suspension?
Thank you, in advance, for your help.
Spudgun
My suggestion ...
I drive a 4 wheel drive car (Renault Scenic xR4) because i like to drive through easy mountain tracks from time to time and that's the combination i have. Probably it's not the best solution but i assure you my HD neve falled down and no matter about vibrations. Also, even when it's not the easiest, you can change from one car to another (i do by myself when taking my wife's car).
It's for placing into an air vent of your car.
Rgds,
Thank you very much for your suggestion
How easy is it to transfer between cars? as i had a really bad experience with one of these once and broke the air vent grille of a hire car trying to remove it

Hummmmmmmmmm ...
Difficult to say, but i never broke it and never broke any grille. ¿Perhaps i did 20 times? For me it's easy to remove it but ...
Rgds,
Get one of those suction cup things from ebay. It's decent quality. The only thing I needed to do to make it work well in the Miata is add some cushion on the bottom so I can rest it against the dash and prevent it from jumping up and down. They move from car to car easily.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Windshield-...34.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301:0|293:1|294:30
good sturdy support!
I am going to recommend you get a Herbert Richter Gorilla Mount coupled with a custom H.R passive holder.
It's a bit more costly than most other options, but does the best job! Since you can use interchangeable holders on the gorilla mount (eg. if you get a new phone, or a second device) it's a great cost effective option than the non-branded flimsy options normally purchased.
Despite what you may think, it does look 'great' on the windscreen!!
Regards,
- RazzyUK.
Spud_work,
I purchased mine aboyut three months ago, its discreet and completely supports the phone wihtout blocking half of the windscreen

Hope this is of use.

Niall
I bought the one pictured below (12 Euros on ebay). Here is my opinion (of course I drive normal streets - I can't say how it does on extremely bumpy terrain).
The suction cup sticks really well to the glass (assuming both surfaces are clean, of course). At first, I was scared that the whole thing would loosen up and fall off, and so I kept checking it constantly, but it holds totally firm. Even when I go to take it off and I release the suction-lock lever, the remaining suction is still really strong.
The tray that holds the actual phone fits the HD well, and all buttons and ports are clearly accessible. I wish the phone would fit just a little tighter in the tray, but it is still fine. I never worried that it would "fall out" or anything like that. I suppose it's also good that it is not so tight that it could scratch the HD when sliding it in and out. The tray can also be easily removed and re-attached to the arm. Oh - and of course, the HD will NOT fit if you have any protective case around it (such as the silicone or hard plastic covers).
The "arm" part is easily bent and adjusted at the two joints, so you can set the HD at whatever angle you want in any direction. Once set to whatever angle, it will not loosen or bend on its own.
All-in-all, I'm very pleased with this so far and I would definitely recommend it. The user reviews I read for it on Amazon do so likewise.
I hope this helps.
Cheers!
Hi Chris Cross
As I am also in the market for a mount to use with my Touch HD could you just answer a few questions about this mount which you have:
1. is it fairly compact as the last thing i need is a mount that's in my face and completely overpowering the HD
2. are you still happy recommending it
3. is it easily changed between landscape and portrait modes
4. any chance of a link for it
Thanks for your help

Hey guys,
got my Herbert Richter Gorilla Mount today (it's actually the Banana Global 1 with the holder for the HD). I have to say that the quality is brilliant and the HD fits very well. I've ordered it yesterday at gps-haus.de and it arrived today. I payed 25euros (shipping included) which is absolutely OK. Anyone interested in pictures?

Yes, post some pic's of this strong holder...
I ordered this one from Brando yesterday.
For me, it has a great design, just iphone like and I used a similar holder for my former phone (Hermes).
I drive a sportcar myself and I have to say, that vibration could possibly occur because of the "thin" arm of the holder.
My old holder did vibrate at higher speed, like above 85mph (140km/h) but could handle strong impacts, like chuckholes, very well.

I have that one and I can confirm that it will shake constantly during driving, which can be seriously annoying. No matter if the road is silky smooth, it will simply shake even from the engine vibration itself.
I had a temporary solution by putting it rather low and using the dashboard as an additional support. This works just fine, so you're probably gonna want to do the same unless you want to get shake-sick from trying to read anything off the screen while driving.
In the end I decided to try one of the shorter car holders that has a stiffer and shorter arm. Will report when it comes in.

I would be interested in any feedback that you have with your new purchase, as i have tried the herbert richter gorilla mount and although that is better, there is still quite a lot of vibration. However, I do own the car with the word's stiffest suspension, so I probably shouldn't expect too much!
I got my holder (look 2 posts before) on friday and I was pleased by the wonderful 360° joint.
But like Rozenthal said, that thing shakes like nothing
It has a far too long arm, so that it can't hold our device in a fixed position.
So now, I mountet the holder plate onto my old, shorter holder (same construction) and I will drive this evening to a friend.
I will post my experience tomorrow!
The one in post #8 is stable. I'm happy with it.

Is there a UK seller for this? as my German isn't very good!
Didn't got the time to report back yesterday.
But I will give you my experience now:
I tried my old, shorter goose neck holder with the new adapter plate.
And it worked really well
It is stable, although i drive a car with sport suspension, so there are some strong impacts on the holder. If there is a very rough street, it produces a few vibration. But that stops very fast, because the holder is much stronger.
But if you need a very stable holder, take the one from post #8 which Chris mentioned.

^that's good feedback...I'm going to check that one out since I'm getting ready to take a long trip on all kinds of roads
eversince i got a brodit phone holder for my old ipaq 6515 from proclipusa.com, I have been using it for all my phones as I just add padding to the holder to accommodate the narrower phones.
however, for HD, with a silicon skin casing (I use capdase), I can just slot the phone into the holder w/o any modification. I kinda like brodit holder because they look 'OEM' (not cheesy universal holder you see elsewhere), at the same time, my ipaq holder could be reused each time I changed my phone with some minimal modification. I change my phone every 4-6 months so it'll be too expensive for me to get a phone specific phone holder.

Car Cradle

Someone is finally making a car cradle for the Touch Pro 2 that Verizon and Sprint (Not T-Mobile) should be able to use and its cheap. I emailed the U.S. seller and he said it fits though it is really for the GSM Euro versions. No surprise though as it is passive only. Heres a link to their website: http://www.buygpsnow.com/HAiCOM_Car_Mount_HTC_Touch_Pro2.aspx
Anything is better than a squeeze cradle
I have one ordered so will update a review but at $12.95 and $2.50 shipping kinda hard to go wrong even if it only lasts until Proclip gets off their duffs.
I found a coupon code for free shipping. It is hit or miss apparently but worth a try. Code is 430.
Edit: Code did not work

Just a quick question, why do you think squeeze cradles suck?
I've not had one but was considering a universal mount from Arkon, which is a squeeze cradle.

Its been years since I've seen a phone thick enough that the jaws need to be anywhere near as deep as the vast majority of the squeeze cradles on the market yet they still make them that deep, at least the ones that are big enough to hold a PDA. This would not be much of a problem except they use soft foam in the jaws that is almost invariably also very thick. When you squeeze it tight enough to keep the phone from falling out, it has a tendency to roll the foam right down over the screen making it difficult to use things like the slide tray in Touchflo 3D. It is also difficult to remove the phone as after a short while the teeth of the jaw start wearing down and it sticks closed making the button hard to push. And thats with a good cradle like and Arkon, which is what I have been using. Lesser quality cradles are even worse. There are better squeeze cradles that address these issues but they are all for Iphones. Saw a nice one the other day with nice thin jaws and rubber grips that fit the phone perfectly with a friction lock instead of teeth and a cam but it had and Ipod cable and FM transmitter built in making it very expensive at like $69. Looked real nice too with a nice shiny finish like the phone has but at that price, wasn't going to buy something that I had to cut up to use. To bad the company did not make one with a USB cable instead. Unfortunately most of the good stuff is made by companies that drank large quantities of the Steve Jobs kool-aid years ago.

Thanks for the response, very good reasons not to go with a giant squeeze cradle.
I've been looking at this mount http://www.arkon.com/phonemount.php
Curious if anyone else has used it with the TP2.
My phone works splendidly with a $15 squeeze cradle from Walmart. It's not too thick, secure, and does not obscure the screen.
I have an old Treo 650 Pro-clip mount that works perfectly with the TP2. The phone slides in securely and comes out easily. Obviously no active connection but it works great. I put double sided tape in the back of the of the mount and it holds my Fuze perfectly as well.

Just came in the mail on Saturday. The cheap shipping took one week to the day. Quality of the cradle is very good. The clip at the top is actually spring loaded, not just plastic that bends back, like the Seidio holsters. It is removable if you won't need to use the cradle in landscape to make it easier to take in and out. The cut out at the bottom is definitely for the CDMA phones. It should work with the European versions also. THIS CRADLE WILL NOT WORK ON THE T-MOBILE VERSION AT ALL. It is a perfect fit for my Verizon phone. This is not a cradle you want if you need to use the keyboard while it is in. For me that is not and issue and it makes me uncomfortable having plastic wedged between my keyboard and screen anyways. Seems like it would be hard on the slider. The windshield mount is very nice. It has push button friction locks instead of screws for the joints and the rotation is spring loaded so its easy to rotate when needed one handed. The suction cup is very large and has a good positive locking mechanism. It is larger than the average suction cup so if you need a dash disk like I do, you will need the largest one you can find. Unfortunately it does not come with one. Since they are selling this so inexpensively, that probably a place they needed to cut their losses. The quality of the cradle is much higher than the price. The cradle does not use a standard mechanism to join it to the mount so you will either have to use the one it came with or go to the website and see if they have another kind of mounting solution. This is really the only limitation I can find. You will not be able to use it with your Proclip solution if you have one. Any more questions you have, just leave them in this forum.

I had one for my Touch Pro and it was nice enough but it kind of made the gap between the keyboard and phone wider over time. If you absolutely have to have the keyboard open while driving its probably the best on on the market, though to me that keyboard open is just and invitation to disaster. Its hard enough to keep hands off the phone while closed They are not inexpensive by any means. Depending on how you need to configure it you can easily spend well over a $100 bucks. The powered cradle alone without a car specific mount is $60 which is competitive with other powered solutions, but the non powered ones at $40 bucks seem more than a little like highway robbery to me especially since you will still spend $30+ on the mounting solution for the cradle. Still, if you need that keyboard open its the only decent solution at this time. They have no powered option for Verizon yet, but the non powered one they have listed for the AT&T Tilt 2 will work on Verizon and Sprint. The phones are exactly the same shape as the AT&T phone except for the ports on the bottom. If you want a fitted cradle but don't need the keyboard to open while mounted, this is the posted cradle only real solution I've found, but its inexpensive and good quality.
Now if you want the best of both worlds, I was wrong about the Proclip mounts not working with the cradle. They make absolutely the best mounting solution hands down since there is no damage to the vehicle. They have cradle adapters on the site that will make it work and the price is not to bad.
http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionp...egoryid=&p_year=&p_countryid=0&p_leftorright=
The suction cup on the cradle is 3.25 inches and this adapter is 3.5 inches so it should work.
I'm not a fan of clamp holders or suction cups, had enough of unintentional flying objects. I usually make my own holders that slip into a vent clip from theclip.com
http://theclip.com/store/Ultra-Clip-with-Vent-Mount-p-16176.html
This time I found a perfect custom made touchpro2 holder for $1.35! It clips right into the vent clip with just a little grinding on the vent clip. It holds the phone solidly and perfectly positioned for easy phone use and GPS mapping.

Nice find on the holster. Never had a problem myself with a good suction cup holder and nothing bounces like a Freightliner. I find that taping a small vanity mirror to the dash works much better than those little round plastic disks since they where designed to stick to glass. If you have two phones and two holders like I do, the small rectangular one they sell in the automotive department at Walmart will hold both and its only 2 bucks and looks nice. I am not a fan of any kind of vent clip. The two worst enemies of electronics are heat and cold and something as heavy as a PDA is going to break the vent eventually. What I have done in the past is use something like this: http://theclip.com/store/The-Clip-Mount-p-16156.html with a holster or case.
I'm going to get the holster. Been looking for one that faces out like that.
I already have a clip in the car so won't need to take my mount with me when I get off the road.

Bike holder for BS

Hi
Does anyone know if there is someone that makes a bike (handelbars) holder for the Blackstone?
edit
I did find some on with google search, but does anyone have any experience??
yesterday, i have ordered this:
http://www.dantotec.de/shop/Richter...HD-T8282-Blackstone-100-inkl-Halteschale.html
now i have to wait for delivery
Please post your experience when you have tried it.
bike holder
Hi, I am interessted in a solid Bike holder too and was looking for the whole day. I found this in ebay germany, the producer is Haicom, tomorrow I will order.
I want to use it only in landscape mode and for me it looks appropriate for this. The only thing is that I don't trust the connection between the HTC cradle and the Handlebar attachment, so perhaps I have to stick it with instant glue, but all the other holders I saw don't have such big retaining clips in the cradle like this one.

Guys
I'm very interested in this too, looking forward to hearing experiences from you. I need to retire my Ortleib pouch!
my experience so far
The cradle i ordered is a little bit bigger then the touch hd and the connection between handlebar attachment and the cradle is a little bit unsteady like i thought but no problem. I sticked felt pads on it and its very very solid now, also a good method to avoid scratches. I've made a little video that you can see how solid this is now. So I think this is a good one only after you stick those felt pads.
Sweet it looks pretty sturdy.. If you can get it to stay in one place on the handel bars then thats the one for me
handle bars
I've mounted the cradle on my bicycle, it doesn't move from its place.
There is a rubber layer at the attachment.
Today i have received my bike holder (http://www.dantotec.de/shop/Richter...HD-T8282-Blackstone-100-inkl-Halteschale.html)
it looks realy safe (not testet in action)
i have "shaked" the holder with my touch hd over my bed and it dont pull out (i hope you know what i mean ^^)
and the size is very good, not too small and not too big "like a second skin"
in the package you get also 3 rubber for more security...
i think i can recommend this bike holder
i wait for this (cause its not in stock): http://www.dantotec.de/product_sear...417fff&query=HRI01686&x=30&y=17&channel=001_0
this product is recommended from the manufactorer, it should guarantee more stability...
I have combined this:
http://www.amazon.de/Motorradhalterung-für-Lenkstange-inkl-Schwanenhals/dp/B000RGVNK8/ref=pd_cp_ce_2
(I do not have the space for the HD directly over my handle so I needed some distance...)
with that:
http://www.amazon.de/HR-Klemmbacken...=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1274939042&sr=1-3
(Had this one already for my car.)
I did not buy them from amazon (I forgot where I got them), but they are original from HR.
Just an advice: The first time I used my device on the bike, I lost my stylus - it must have gotten loose due to some vibrations, and it was only on a paved bike path, not cross country-like vibrations...
So better remove your stylus or find some way to fix it.
I had the luck that it was on my way to work, and it waited for me to pick it up on my way back not far from my home...
The Whistler
Ebay is perfect for this stuff.

I can only find the carholder for the T8282, not the bikeholder.
Seems to me that no one sells this bike holder in Netherlands. Here is an ebay seller in Germany, you can order there if you don't mind.

I bought a bikeholder at Saturn. They have several bikeholders from Hama and not expensive. Mine is even waterproof.

I've been looking for the same thing, swivel capabilities is a must. Anyone find a good one?
Get a decent quality universal car mount (with the four prongs) and then just buy a cheap fixation for your Lumia. That way you can keep the mount when you eventually change phones... That's what I've been doing for the last few years...
I've got a telescopic Herbert Richter car mount which looks like it's the same as this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/iGrip-Herbe...472900?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item48454f5744) and I've been very pleased with it. Unlike some of the cheaper ones I've had it has never lost suction and come unstuck. Most eBay sellers who have cheap Lumia 920 car mounts will sell the phone-specific part of their mounts separately for a couple of euros...
Well .. i dont like the universal ones to be honest because the ones i used never where as usfull as expected. will have a loook at the richter one.
Which car charger can you recommend. I am reading a few amazon.co.uk reviews and they are not to pleased with the ones offered
The one I use (and the one that looks like mine that I posted a link for) isn't one of those universal ones that can be adjusted to hold any size of phone... I don't like those ones either... The ones Im talking about just use a four prong system where you can attach phone specific "faceplates" like you can see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683631 so it looks like it's made for the phone you use it with... Sorry, it's not easy to explain but you should be able to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
does your one come with a car charger already?
got different from belkin etc .. just looking for the power part of a car mount now.
will see if i find a universal holder later
hrmm, not sure if we are allowed to post links on here...
anyways, i bought this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AEO3U7W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
took a gamble as there was no reviews, current review is from myself.
Its pretty solid, I tend to always buy ones for the phone as I'm not a big fan of the all in one mounts, and the nokia one i got for my partners 710 is terrible, won't even hold my phone just slips out constantly. I've got a car charger from maplin to go with it that does do a 1000ma charge as my old charger didn't charge the phone enough to keep up with navigon.
Its as solid as some premium brand mounts i've bought in the past, as good as you can get with one suction cup. (imo) how long it lasts is another thing, but for the price I thought it was pretty neat, a friend borrowed it and immediatly ordered one too.
Its very sturdy and the easist phone mount i've used to slip in and out, only thing that did initially put me off is the fit isn't 100% secure, theres very slight movement, i don't think its even 1mm, thought it would rattle but seems fine in the car.
well i just ordered this for my charging:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002C3AFHG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
hope you didnt have this one
and i will have a closer look at the amazon offer, thanks
stead, look at the second photo of the one you bought, see the four prongs? That means the front panel comes off so yours is one of the ones that I was talking about that can be used with any type of phone (as long as you get the right front panel holder piece)...

Ah, i thought you meant those univseral one size fits all ones that clamp onto the phone! everyphone holder i've bought has had the 4 prongs, but everytime I buy one I can never find just the phone bit on its own and just end up buying the whole thing again
This is the offending nokia one I bought, its terrible http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003D1US46/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00

I've very rarely seen them advertised on their own but if you ask, most eBay sellers who sell the dirt cheap car holders will sell you the phone specific attachment on it's own in my experience and usually for only a couple of euros including postage. Postage must be cheaper in Hong Kong than it is in France...
Arkon Slim-Grip Floor Mount SM525-S
FWIW I have been using this model for about 4 years- first with my Tilt2 and now with the Lumia 920 (both without a case and with an Otterbox Defender case as the holder can expand). I had an older version for the Tilt2 which didn't allow for 180deg movement (you couldn't move the phone to landscape position while inside the holder) so when I got the 920 I was able to purchase just the Slim-Grip portion and keep the flexible pedestal part that I already had.
The 4 legs on the Slim-Grip are not permanent- they come in a little bag and you slide them into the body of the phone holder. The move left and right to allow for access to ports on the phone that may not be centered on the phone itself. It also comes with extra legs that are a different shape in case you need a different fitment for your phone (think they are shorter?). The bottom of the Slim-Grip is the part that moves- you push it down with the bottom of your phone and it expands enough to let you then push the top of the phone into the holder so the top legs support it. It isn't obvious from the pictures on Arkon's site at first but you will see a line running across the holder when you look at the pictures and that is where the movement occurs.
I am able to put my phone in the holder with one hand and, because the pedestal part is mounted to one of the passenger seat floor bolts, it's very stable. It's hard to move the pedestal to bend it to different shapes, which is a good thing, because it won't flop all over the place when driving. I can use the 920 without a case in it and with an Otterbox Defender, either way is fine. It allows easy access to the audio and power ports. My friends stick their phones in it too and it holds them just as well (iPhones, Galaxy S3's, Blackberry's etc......).The mount does not impede passenger comfort, however they may not be able to just flop their left leg against the center console because the mount would then be rubbing against the plastic and may leave marks, at least in my Subaru Legacy.
I have used this mount without any problems for close to 5 years now and everyone is jealous of it because it is so secure and convenient. I have no problems recommending it 100%. Good luck.

You can now order a specific Brodit 920 - un-powered, cig-socket, and hardwired. Excellent mounts, especially the powered ones - amazing how nice it is to just slide the phone in and not worry about fiddling with charger cables...

They swivel 360 degrees and are very high quality. I've got one in my car that I've also used for my Note II (different holder of course though). It was well worth it IMO.
brodit always had the best ones..
but i read something with "screws" and that made me buy something different for the glas
What did you hear, I'm curious.

Oh OK I understand what you're saying now; I thought you were referring to an issue like the screws scratching the phone or something like that.
I didn't have to screw anything into my dash. I had a mount that clips onto the dash and a holder which is screwed into said mount. Very easy.

Car Dock

I have a nice dvd slot mount that grabs the sides of the phone with foam covered retractable arms, but the Z Ultra with its power/volume in the center is a little hard to use. I use waze and google navigation a bunch and would be nice to find something that holds this in the car somehow.
Have you guys found any creative solutions?

I am using the infiniapps magnetic mount. It works great! Ofcourse, it depends on if your phone is naked, in a bumper, or in a case. I'm currently using the incipio feather case and have stuck the metal plates to the case itself (not my phone). and It holds really well. With the infiniapps mount, you'll only get one adhesive plate so I bought an additional one as well. See pictures for how I've attached the plates. I'll upload a picture of the phone mounted tomorrow.
infiniapps mount - i bought it on sale for $19.99

So you have to put a plate on front and back of your case?
I don't use a case currently. I'm assuming I could just stick one of these pads to the back of the phone?
Are they really secure going over big bumps and stuff like that?
Yeah I put plates on the case because I didn't want to stick anything to the phone. It would obviously be lighter without a case, and thus hold better if you stuck it to the phone. It's been really secure over bumps and at high speeds. Held perfectly during a 7 hr drive last week.
I am using this one.

It's the only customfit car holder for the Ultra I could find. When in the car I remove my Ultra from the Nillkin case and put it in the holder. I use it for navigation quite a lot and I hate it when the phone is loose in the car holder which is the case with most universal clamp style holders.
I have the InfiniApps Slyde CD Slot Mount also. Best phone mount ever. CD players are usually in the best location for viewing. I had cup, dash mounts, they were terrible. I used the sticky metal plate and attached it to the back of a case. Also magnetic attachment makes for quick removal of the phone when you want to check a message etc...

Hi can you post some pics of it...???
This is the one I got. Worked pretty good until the Z Ultra..

Cool these look good. Just found another one which is cheaper than the others $12.99 + $2.99 delivery. Looks like it does the same thing and will also fit the Z Ultra (checked the dimensions). Link
Is there any risk that the CD slot ones will damage the CD player? Is the slot strong enough to handle the weight of the Xperia Z Ultra?
I've been using PuGoo sticky pads for a good year or two now to mount whatever smartphone I'm using. It's very handy.

You do need a good spot for it though, which luckily my xB has.

I already have this car holder and it works fine. It keeps the phone firmly in place and it is easy to put in and take out.

Does it stay in place while driving and when hitting potholes or bumps?
It does hold very strong, I just got one of these. I hate cases on my phone but I put one on so I could attach the metal plate to the inside of the case. It has never fallen off on even the biggest bumps.
I am still deciding if I want to just stick the plate to the back of my phone... I wonder how easy it is to get the adhesive off the back glass if I ever wanted to remove it...
Yes is holds really well. Just had a 6hr drive this morning!
Edit: Here is a picture of how it looks while driving.

Just wanted to say that I just bought this:
Scosche stuckUP
Its early to tell but the quality feels solid compared to the many ebay cheapo one that end up breaking in no time.
The whole things just feel quality..and for the price it better! lol
Several ways to use it...I went with Windshield for now. Holds the phone very tightly and during the trip its very stable.
Also, I did not even have to remove the flip case I have which makes it seem a lot bulkier so I feel it will do great with either the CP12 or any of those battery/case combinations.
Happy to finally have my phone up there even if it blocks most of my view! LOL
I have come to the conclusion that a universal mount for a small tablet is the ideal car mount, so I have been looking at ebay for ones designed for the Nexus 7, Memopad 7 and Samsung Tab 7, and then checking that they can be adjusted small enough for the XZU.
this one in particular looks appropriate:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160672229905?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
it's a little bit more expensive than I'd expect for a simple product, but I've not seen a similar unit.
The one I bought above works excellent, it is for phones but depends on what you like.
I am very happy with the quality compared to all the crap I bought before lol
I have one of the Imagnet mounts in my F350 I used with another phone. I checked the Z Ultra and it sticks to it without needing the metal plate attached to the back of the phone. Right under the camera area inside the phone is enough metal that the magnet works fine. I have driven with it in that bouncy old truck and it does not come off or move around at all. The only bad thing is the metal is not centered so the phone only sits in portrait orientation. But it beats having to stick a metal plate to the back of the phone.
I like it because I am in and out a lot through the day and it is quick and easy to just toss the phone onto the magnet then just grab it off there when I need it. I have not tried it with a power cable attached but most likely it will just make it tilt over a bit depending on how much the power cable hangs down I guess. With the battery life of this phone it has not been something I have needed compared to the Mega 6.3 that would go dead much quicker streaming slacker radio over bluetooth than this beast of a phone. Most likely the charger cable would have to be supported in some way to keep it from making the phone lean to one side.
