Just found a new stylus by wacom,bamboo stylus

Looks promising, should be due out this month. It has the thinnest nib of any stylus on the market, and since I take alot of stylus notes (maple paint and genial) I think this is a must have for me.
I have ordered it from their site, delivery is within 14 days, i am currently using the Boxwave one but like this one because it is the size of an average ball point pen which I would prefer. Hope it works as well as or better than the Boxwave. I went for it because of wacom's reputation.

ordered a dagi one as the bamboo looks pretty pricey for.....a possibly better designed rubber nub. I use a wacom tablet and know they make some nice stuff, but it doesn't seem to be much different than the cheaper alternatives out there.
The dagi should be interesting with the clear tip and red dot so you can see where you're pointing, gonna play around with autodesk sketchbook mobile with it.

I am interested to hear how this one works out. I am currently using a targus which works great for me. but want a little more precision. Please update this when you get it....
Think will order one, will give a review of it when received, but probably be a few weeks before I get it

Its not anything that will work like a wacom tablet + their stylus. This is just a regular capacitive stylus with the nub at the end of it, it just so happens that wacom makes it. Theres no interactivity between the stylus and the device other than the contact of the nib. So yea, it will work fine with the TF101, as will all capactive styli on the market today.

It takes a little getting used to to hold it properly and to put the right pressure to get that disc centered, but once you do, the lines start at or very close to the dot, depending on whether i am holding it right. It takes a bit of getting used to, and seems more suitable for drawing and sketching. This is because if you're doing quick swipes i.e. quickly jotting down notes you might not get the disc centered before the tablet registers the touch, causing a fairly inaccurate input.

That doesn't sound too promising. I'm expecting mine to be delivered on Monday. Was going to use it for handwrite note taking

Well the way I see it when u are handwriting your movements should just follow your first stroke. I tried writing quickly and found the dot to be useless because I'm writing so fast I'm just going by muscle memory instead of trying to aim it

I have received mine today and can give a little feedback on how I am finding the stylus in use.
The stylus itself is really nice to hold in the hand, its weight is just right and it actually feels like you are holding a good quality pen. I expected it to be a little longer, more like the size of a standard size ball point pen however it is just a little bit shorter than this. Having said this, because of the way the weight is distributed on the stylus, it does not feel uncomfortable in the hand and feels very natural.
The end uses a small rubbery nib similar to others available however is considerably smaller when compared to the Boxwave stylus which I also use. This allows for more precision when writing and placement on the tablet.
To test handwriting, I used Tabnotes which is available on the market as a trial. My findings are that the stylus can definitely be used for handwriting and produces very acceptable results, I can confidently say that the writing produced from it resembled my true handwriting (Which is not very tidy by the way but is unique to me).
There is a slight screen sensitivity issue which I think is related to the transformer and not the pen. When you place dots on top of the letter i or strike through letters like t, you need to apply a bit more pressure (not excessive) or it may not register on the tablet.
I used a similar test on my HTC desire HD (DHD) and this is where the quality of the stylus was really highlighted. On the DHD, straight away I noticed that the screen was more responsive, the stylus seemed to glide effortlessly on it's screen with minimal pressure being applied and the results were near enough 100%. I used writepad to test on the DHD which converts your handwriting into typed text and my handwriting was recognised instantly.
Hopefully the upgrade to the honeycomb software will address the sensitivity issue on the transformer which if it does will make the Transformer an ideal platform for handwritten notes. Having said this, in its current form it is still very usable, all it means is that you have to use slightly more pressure on the transformer. I am also assuming that this will work even better on the Ipad2 because the screen sensitivity is no doubt better on it.
I hope this has been helpful, any queries about the stylus, let me know and I will try to help before you take the plunge and buy it.
Edit: I have since writing this, used it on my wifes Ipad2 and as I thought it gave very similar results as the DHD where the results were equal i.e. almost 100% accuracy.
I have also added some pics where I have compared the size of the Boxwave stylus against the Bamboo stylus and another pic showing the size difference of the nibs on each.

Sample added to my orginal post to show sample of note using my handwriting and a new note taking app which is soon to be released called "Tabnotes", at the moment a trial is available and the output quality has been reduced until the software is relesed by the developer who is busy finalising the software.

That looks awesome, im going to use it for marking up pdf drawings in the field. If i can keep somewhat a straightish line its a winner.

Looks good- I also recently been using Tabnotes with a Targus which works great. I LOVE Tabnotes- it definitely has some great potential. Any idea when the full version will be released. I am sick of looking at the Trial version smack in the middle of the papers..

Had an email from the developer a couple of days ago where he apologised for not getting back to an email that I had sent him when he first put the software on the market where I requested from him a few changes such as having the undo and other tools at the top instead of having to select them via the menu option. He has done this and made a few other changes that enhance the software e.g. the little arrows on the bottom corner on the right to position the writing area etc.
Hopefully he should be releasing the full version fairly soon because he also advised that the reason for late response to emails was because he is hard at work improving the software before release which in his estimation is a couple of weeks.
I am checking for software updates daily for Tabnotes as I too can see the potential of this program and it is definitely my first choice for producing hand written notes on my tablet.
Too costly, even though the quality is there I just can't pay that much. Probably going to buy a few of these.
I've tried 4 different Capacitive Screen styluses on my Tablet S, with no screen protector, and it requires me to push much harder than on any other tablet or screen I've tried it on.
Can anyone test this out on their Tablet S for me?

Ive never tried a stylus on any other tablet than the Sony one I own so I didn't know it was just an issue on this one but yes, the performance of the stylus is horrible.
The stylus didn't work very well for me either. The Nook color I have also didn't work very well. Pretty sure the capacitive touchscreens work differently between iOS and android so this may just be a "designed for ipad" kind of issue.
The problem I have is that I used it on the Xoom and ALL the other tablets they had over at Best Buy on display, and they worked flawlessly. Some of then better than it did on the iPads on display :-( damn it SONY, I think it's just a screen sensitivity thing... if anyone figures out how to increase this, let me know.
Why do you need a stylus anyway? If you really do need a stylus, you should have gotten a tablet that supports an active stylus by either Wacom or N-Trig for actual precision, and quality when writing. I know at least the HTC Flyer and one of the Lenovo tablets support this.

Hi,
A friend of mine recommended the Griffin Stylus, although he has an iPad2 he said that after trial and error with several brands, this one was near perfect.
I'm also looking into this, so that I can use the tablet as a notepad for classes - I have the apps installed already, all I have to do now is find the proper stylus.
Dunno if you guys didnt realize that there is a factory installed screen protector over the glass ( yes glass, mineral glass in fact). thats causing sensitivity issues.
If you read the manual it will tell you NOT to use a stylus. The Tablet S is not meant for anything other than your finger tip.

I searched all the leaflets and booklets that came with the tablet and could not find any evidence supporting your claim, I also went online to the Sony Forums and nothing about Stylus Pen issues - but it's still possible, as stated, that due to design/build characteristics, stylus pens work badly with the tablet.
So far, according even to my friend's experience on the iPad and the information at the Sony Store, I'm still hoping that maybe the Sony Tablet is just picky when it comes to Stylus Pens and we just have to do our homework before buying one.
I hope that's the case, as I'm planning on using this device for classes and so far, software-wise I'm all set, so all I need now is a suitable stylus pen to write with.
I'll let you know how it goes, but please if anyone else has any successful results on this, please share as well.
Hi, Maybe I am "mis-remembering" it. I believe if you click on the Sony Help Icon it will take you to a website with various tips and information. In there it will tell you not to use anything on the screen except for your finger tips. I should confirm this for you but I am tired and lazy. Anyways, I don't see the point in using a stylus with this tablet. To me, this is the kind of tablet you leave beside the couch or your bed. In my opinion it's not a travel / work tablet.

Couldn't disagree more, this tablet keeps surprising me, in a positive way.
Work is always relative, travel is just not so as this seems more and more as THE partner to have, but opinions come and go, of course.
As for facts, check the image below - and hopefully the stylus drama dies here.

I picked up the Griffin stylus GC16040 and it isn't working well with mine with the Sony screen protector on. I still had to give in a good amount of pressure for it to work.
Has anyone tried the stylus sold on the Sony store website?
I'm going to assume it'll work because Sony is selling it, and it says specifically that it is for Sony tablets. I'm going to place an order to try it out.

I got my screen protector from amazon today - not the official sony one, and another set of stylus pens - Groov-e, GV-CP2
Both stylus packs work ok, but with screen protector I do have to apply some little pressure, but I have to say that for me, it's basically the same as when writing with normal pen and paper...
I do notice a slightly more diffuse image due to the protector, and the griffin stylus is alot softer to use than the Groov-e ones.
Both work ok, but the Groov-e just seemed slightly rougher, when typing I get a subtle scraping sound...
I also noticed that not all apps behave the same with this, personally I liked genie writing best, whereas hand writing HD didn't feel so precise in capturing my strokes.

Which screen protector did you get exactly?
Drawing in supernote is the same with your finger or stylus, not great. It misses some inputs when drawing. I'm sure with future updates it will get better. I'm using a targus stylus.

Stylus on Sony Tablet S
I bought these TOUCH SCREEN STYLUS FOR Huawei IDEOS S7 Slim Tablet
on ebay and tested them on my Sony Tablet S and Galaxy S phone.
It works 100x better on my galaxy s phone than on the sony tablet.
They do work on the sony but the sensitivity isn't there, a fair amount of pressure is needed in order for it to respond.
I'm also interested to see if anyone else gets a better result with the targus stylus that sony sells.
I created a short video to show the problem. Go to youtube and search for AntMoore23, go on my channel and watch.
I think for the Sony it has a special resin that allows the screen to have a better black response. I think maybe that's the reason why the stylus response is bad. Just something to keep in mind.
I use a griffin stylus (GC17125) with sketchbook pro every day and it work just fine.
I also tried to build my own stylus with a sponge and some other crap (try a search on youtube) but without success.

The active digitizer is not the stylus, it's part of the screen technology inside the tablet, similar to the Galaxy Note.
I want to know if anyone take notes with your transformer. And i need an opinion about a good cheap capacitive pen, and a good app tu take these notes. Thank you all.
PS- I live in Portugal. If I were to buy online I would prefer buying at least inside the EU.
I'm using the classic pen from www.adonit.net. It's a wonderful pen for only 20 dollars. It's super acurate and works wonders.
As for the app i use, I use a couple diffrent ones. I find that when i need to type something, like review questions for a quiz, Kingsoft Office works wonders.

i just use the built in one called supernote. You can type fine as well as handwrite and add anotations such as diagrams. been using it now for about 4 months with no issue
I'm taking a lot of notes.
It's not easy, far from writing on paper, yet dooable and saves you a lot of time and strugle with sheets of paper and notebooks.
Cheap styluses - are very bad, don't buy them.
Adonit Jot - better for writing.
A tablet with digitizer stylus will be probably a much better choice for taking handwritten notes (although I'm not sure if accuracy of those kind of styluses is enough for easy writing).

Please do additional research on the Jot before you purchase it. Read the entire thread from start to finish than google it and read others opinions. There is a lot of problems with skipping but than again alot of people have no issues with it. I guess the luck of the draw.
I do a lot of handwriting each day for work and i tried the jot but had issues so i returned it- it wasn;t for me- I went back to my cheap Acase II stylus purchased on Ebay $9.95 delivered. And it works the best. One thing to do when you use a rubber tip stylus is to clean your screen than coat it with RainX and you will have no binding of the rubber tip stylus. And minimal fingerprints- will need to recoat once a month.
I use Antipaper, Supernote and Genial writer, Another one which is new but will be good is Phatpad- this one needs some improvement but keep watching for additional updates before you purchase it.

You can find Rainx in any auto section of any store. It is a wax'ish coating that you apply to glass. ( you can not put it over a screen protector- only use if you don't use a screen protector.) I have been using it for well over a year on a few devices and it works great. really cuts down on fingerprints and makes your stylus smoothly work on the screen,
For your note taking are you looking to draw diagrams along with notes or just notes. If just notes than genial writer is the smoothest note taker. but if you need to draw diagrams etc than some of the others listed. What problems do you have with supernote- maybe we can help.

Skipping is easy to fix with conductive grease (or toothpaste). I just did second test after a few weeks of first applying the toothpaste - I had to replace the toothpaste because it dried out but after that the writing is without skipping and doesn't require any force again. (coductive grease wouldn't require replacing so often).

EDIT: Just to be on-topic - I am still waiting to receive my Estylo .1.1 from Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/plai-tv/estylo-11-magnetic-dual-tip-capacitive-stylus-for). I'll let you know how it turns out!
I use saliva to make the Jot better . I'll possibly come back to add pics of my notes.
I use supernote although it does FC sometimes
7-note is pretty slick if all you are doing is text. Doesn't seem like there is a good way to sketch pictures.
i keep going back to ezpdf for my note taking needs.

awesome thread. i was actually looking for something like this but i got other question. when you get the stylus do you have to keep your hand of the touch screen? when you're writing on paper your pen just follow your hand but on touchscreen it might be tricky right?this is software thing for sure. So finally my question can some of the apps you mentioned handle this? That is just recognize the "sharp" stylus and not your "huge" hand?
I used to have trouble with it, but I just write like I would "properly" or as a Chinese calligraphy thingie.

i originally posted this in the general section and then realized it made more sense here. i have an old motion tablet that has a stylus, they cost about 30$, Best part though is you can use it like our s pen(has a button on the side as well) but the cool part is when you flip it over it automatically acts as an eraser

Thanks for the heads-up. Because you mentioned the compatilbilty I just grabbed the stylus from my Toshiba Portege M400...and it works, eraser and all!

Basically, any tablet PC that uses wacom penabled technology will have a stylus that is compatible with the Note. So tablets from Motion Computing, Lenovo's X61/X200 convertibles, Toshiba Portege M convertibles, HP 27xx convertibles, Fujitsu Stylistics, just to name a few all use the same Wacom digitizers.
What that means too is that with enough searching, you could find a very cost effective alternative pen for the Note. I like using my old Motion Computing pen that is shaped like a fountain pen. You can also replace the hard plastic nibs with a felt nib that feels much more like writing on paper.
And before anyone asks, No, you cannot use a stylus from any of the Wacom Intuous or Bamboo art tablets. The technology there is not the same.
I'd really like someone to come up with an app that lets us use the Note as a "small" wacom pad for the PC and Mac. Either by using bluetooth or USB, we could set our phones on our desk and use the digitizer while working in Windows or OSX. That would be amazing.

I can confirm my note doesn't work with the styli from my Cintiq or my Wacom 4...
Can you post some links to known working styli, I am looking for one with the weight and styling as a real pen with interchangable nibs.
Cross or Parker styling would be awesome!

Yes, that one will work. I have used that exact stylus on my Note at times since I own a couple of Motion tablets. This is one of the nicer pens I've used since it feels like an actual fountain pen.
Basically any stylus from a Motion Tablet will work in the M, LE, LS, F and J series tablets. The only one that won't work is from their CL900 tablet which uses an N-trig digitizer instead of Wacom.
I have purchased several different stylus pens. So far my favorite is a "Samsung Series 7 Slate Digitizer Pen"
It has a decent pocket clip (along with a tether loop hole), the top works as an eraser in s-memo (needs a bit too much force though), and its black (I have a black note). It's 1/8 inch shorter than the note and bigger around than a pencil.

Everyone uses tech differently for their own applications and usage scenarios.
In my particular case, I use my Note for a lot of note taking, diagramming, sketching... I don't find the S-pen very comfortable to use for extended periods of time. So having some alternative pen options is a good thing.

Well, I am an engineer and the Note has replaced my Moleskin that I used to carry around in case I am caught in the hall with "Can you, could you, would you" tasks that usually evaporate from my brain before I can get back to my desk.
I might be biased because I haven't used a mouse in over a decade, I've been on digitizers and for the last 3 have been wacoms, I have used their Intuits 2-4 and a Cintiq, I am used to their accuracy. Trying to do charts, designs or paint with a mouse is like trying to paint with a brick. Once you try one, you'll never go back!
The stylus with the Note is a full wacom stylus not one of those inaccurate crayons that iPads have to use, it has pressure and accuracy so it is like writing with a mechanical pencil right down to erasing like one! It measures pressure so if I write harder, the line gets thicker and darker...and yes, sometimes a picture is worth more than a thousand words!
As for a tablet; this is more portable than a tablet, it is always in my pocket. It is more accurate (as said above) than any tablet (which the best one out there is the iPAD right now, I admit it!) but this is better than an iPAD or iPhone!
I am so used to having a pencil for my Moleskin that a stylus feels quite normal. I am desperately looking for a Wacom Cross but it is a quest that I suspect I will never complete!
Try one for a week, you might never go back! This is a device for business. This is proof that cowardly Microsoft would have had a runaway success if they had released the Courier...this is at least a Moleskin journal to the what could have been the Courier being a Franklin Planner...ah was might have been!

What difference would my profession make? I have coworkers who don't like the Note... its really up to the individual.
I can't explain it any better than what HoneyBadger said. The Note is infinitely more useful to me because since it's a cell phone, I carry it around with me all the time. It pushes the edge of pocketability so I'm getting the maximum amount of screen real estate for its portability.

A Moleskin is a perfect analogy. I used to carry around IPAQs like the hp4700 which is nearly comparable in size.
I've also been scouring ebay for the wacom cross pen but still can't find one.

The Motion Stylus I like is part #504.500.01 which is the stylus shaped like a fountain pen. I don't have enough posts to display a link. I could PM it if you're interested.
The Fujitsu pen you had linked will work as well.

Yes, that pen should work with the Note. The tablets that are listed in the link, such as the R10 and M200 have Wacom penabled digitizers that are compatible with the Note.
I've read in other forums that the Wacom Bamboo Feel (CS300UK) line of stylus's do not line up correctly, with the tip being offset by 1/8th of an inch or more, which is really maddening when you're trying to do some detailed art. In the Note 10.1 2014 forum there's a thread devoted to how many of these stylus's suck and are offset, including the CS300UK2, which people still aren't sure of if it's a new version or a different region product code of the same pen. Whichever it is, this is about the easy to get Best Buy and Amazon sold version, CS300UK.
Still, after reading all of that, I gave it a shot and it really was crap. Way offset! I was about to return it, when I decided to get out the X-acto blade and see what I could do.
I've attached a finished version of what my pen looks like now. Not the prettiest thing, but it lines up perfectly for me now and took WAY less time to do than it did for me to write all this out. haha
1- Pull out the nib that's currently in the pen.
2- Whittle down the tip of the pen until you start to see the first bit of innards in it. With my X-acto, it was really easy to cut, not a hard plastic at all.
In the image attached, you can see a small black circle inside the cut grey part. That is where I've decided to stop. Not sure what it does but looks like it shouldn't be sliced up...
3- Trim the nib. I've labeled in the image the bit of nib that I trimmed. This was photographed on the top of the back of the Bamboo nib box so you can see the size, but it is a small amount, like 1/8 of an inch or so. With your basic nail clippers, I clipped it from the "bottom" of the nib, which is slightly less round than the top, but I doubt it matters which you clip.
So yeah, slip the nib back in the pen and you're done. It should be lined up.
The two photos on the right of the attached image show what it looks like held from the left and right at a pretty decent angle, my "natural" drawing angle. Basically spot on. Tested in a bunch of places around the tablet and it all matches up.
Good luck to anyone who tries this! Also, don't blame me if you screw up your pen.
Now, if only Wacom could put out a pen that is this little bit shorter for these newer Note's...

People are still experiencing an offset with that, as well. I browsed all through the 10.1 2014 thread about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484014
Specifically http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47180938&postcount=46 from a quick search in that thread.
As they're both Samsung products put out at about the same time, I am using the assumption that they will have similar tech when it comes to the digitizer and how it reacts to the Feel pens. The Note 3 will probably have that, too. Older digitizers might not do so good, though. haha

At least from the angle, there seems to be an offset from the UK2. He's on the line with the pen, but the drawn line is under that line.
I have the V2 and have no offset issues. From a screen shot taken from a side angle, yes there appears to be an offset, but the big question is "is there an offset from the eye position of the writer" not is there an offset for someone watching from the side. It's like looking at a speedometer from the driver's seat vs. the passenger seat. You will not get the same reading as you will from the other position.

Some say they like it and others are still saying their V2's are off, but if you do have one that works properly and you're happy with it, that's all that matters.
Does the back of this pen work as an eraser?
I was finally able to test the wacom pen with eraser that came with my Toshiba laptop. No surprise, it has the same 2-3 mm offset when the pen is held at an angle. Too bad because it's nice to have the easy eraser which does work as expected. I'll probably end up ordering the big s-pen now...
Also, I did try adjusting the calibration screws under the button to no avail...

WOW worked like a charm thanks for posting!! Just be careful how short you cut the nib I found I cut it too short and had to gradually adjust the length on the spare.

Any chance you can share how to adjust the Bamboo? Wacom support told me it's a Samsung issue and very sporadic. I would appreciate the help so I don't have to return it.

Certainly!
There's two ways to go about this. The 'Viking equivalent of try this first' and the 'If that doesn't work, let's try the more technical one.'
Firstly, try giving it a good solid whack on the edge of a table. As ridiculous as that sounds (and makes you look), this does usually have an effect. Often, the nib isn't properly inserted, or sits at just the wrong angle. Brute force tends to work.
If that doesn't help, it's time for the proper technical solution. This works on pretty much any magnetic stylus with a button, including the Spen.
Requirements:
- A small flat screwdriver
- A non-cluttered room (preferably without carpets)
- The pen
- The tablet
Step 1) Carefully use the small screwdriver to pop off the button. You should be able to insert it along the side in the middle and then slide it towards the back end (where the fastener isunder the button).
The thing jumps, so be careful! (Hence the clean, carpet free room. I had to use a vacuum cleaner to recover mine once..) If the screwdriver doesn't work, try a needle or a razor (mind your fingers!).
Step 2) With the lid off, you'll see two dials.
The one closest to the tip of the pen adjusts the sensitivity.
The one closest to the cap adjusts the offset. This is the one we'll need to fix this issue. (Might as well tweak both whilst you're at it)
Carefully make tiny adjustments (and I mean really tiny) to these dials. Test it on the tab every time, you don't need to re-attach the button to test it. They go both ways, so play with it 'till you're satisfied with the result. (On my previous one I had to turn it a whole 85º, on my new one only 5º.)
Step 3) If you're happy with the result, click the button back on. It only fits one way, and needs to be inserted very much like a battery: one side first. (The side pointing towards the cap)

That was very helpful, but still took a bit of fidgeting to get it off. For anyone trying it at home, here is a picture of the guts. The two tabs on the left click into rectangular hole.
My problem was that I tried to slide a blade along the edge and the cross piece would not let that happen. Perhaps the best way is to pry at the left 1/3 of the length and let the middle bulge up.
