Anyone know tool for 1st splash screen edit?
here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317726
but I am not sure Is it work for Hermes?
*Many of ROM Cook got really great job
But I also want to make my first boot splash without harm entire ROM

Crossbow in hermes

My friend just got the hermes running the crossbow os, would someone tell me how to dump the rom out? Need urgen reply cause he will leave hong kong tomorrow.
First try Buzz's rom dumper. It's available here
There are reports that it won't work which may be related to the Hermes microSD slot. I'd try the miniSD version of Buzz's pgm first.
There are various ways to dump the ROM from a live device, I don't know which one will be the most reliable or will be more helpful to reconstruct the ROM after the dump, so if possible dump the rom in all methods explained here:
1) itsutils pdocread, as explained in the WIKI:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoDumpRom
This is IMHO the most reliable method, first use 'pdocread -l' to list all partitions, then dump ALL them in "raw" files. Feel free to ask if you need help or are unsure in any of the steps.
2) As Sleuth255 suggested, you can also try grab_it! tool from buzz, but I don't know if it will work or not.
3) There is also mamaich's TestWM5.exe, which dumps files and modules to SD card, but I think the dump will not be useful for creating a valid imgfs after, anyway try this method too.
4) It will be also useful if you dump the bootloader on this device: Run gnuharet.exe on the device, then telnet to port 9999 and issue this command: 'pwf splfile 0x30000000 0x40000' in gnuharet.exe
This will dump the running SPL in a file called "splfile" in the folder where you run gnuharet from. It will probably be corrupted by wince usb host buffers, but anyway will be useful too.
Good luck and feel free to ask if you have problems
Suspense is killing me... did we get a dump?
Also please, put the Hermes in bootloader mode (side ok + power button + softreset with stylus) and tell us exactly the IPL and SPL version you see in the tri-color screen. Probably we can investigate how to dump rom parts from bootloader using 'rbmc' command in mtty.

nice tease...guess i put it up for discussion in our Hermes meeting tomorrow..
Well lookey here! M$ also released a version that runs on the HTC Wizard. The Wizard was their preferred device at MEDC 2006.
I'm really wondering why they called it WM6.0 instead of SE or 5.5...
POF and other more intelligent people than me - if we do get this ROM I am more than happy to act as a guinea pig for this!! I have 2 days off work and a brand new Hermes to mess around with!
LOL I'm sure everyone will want to be a guinea pigs for this

possibly marketing...
Getting the ROM dump is only the first (most important) part. Next the talented folks here at xda developers will need to convert it to a flashable image. The Hermes architecture presents unique challenges here. I'm sure having this dump on the FTP site will add even more incentive to this effort which will also result in our ability to cook our own ROMs....

Upgrading Cingular 8525

I brought Cingular 8525 off Ebay over a month ago and love it. I like experimenting things to improve and learn of this website about upgrading your Hermes to make it better than stock version provided by your carrier. I have been reading this forum for almost a month now since I got this 8525 and wanted to dive into it but I would like someone to confirm the step I am plan on doing is the way to go with least risk of bricking my pda. I understand there always a risk of bricking it but I want the least risk as possible =P
From reading this forum and wiki I learn that I should do this steps but correct me if I missed a step or doing something in wrong order.
1) Since I am going to use Hard SPL I don't need to SuperCID my phone and just download Hard SPL Hard-SPL-V2.zip at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722 and flash it using usb port on a xp with activesync installed.
2) Download Radio 1.38 without gps HERM_RADIO_1.38.00.10_Only_SSPL.rar at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297925 and flash it the same method above via usb and activesync.
3) Test phone make sure everything working after 2 flashes.
4) Download WM6 ROM (I am leaning toward MWVI Black Edition v1.2) Windows_Mobile_VI_-_Black_Edition_v1.2_(Release_22-03-07_GMT+10_4am).exe at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298936 and flash it the same step as above via usb and activesync.
This part I am lost on is the statement on that forum -> "To install, run the (.exe). This will automatically push Des's SSPL to your phone although if you have security enabled then you will need to answer "Yes" to the dialogue when it appears on your phone."
Do I need to answer yes because I have Hard SPL install or is it going to overwrite my Hard SPL with Des's SSPL? I am lost about that one and wasn't sure on this.
5) Download cabs to restore Cingular data and mms settings at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1163312&postcount=1 and install it on phone.
6) Download Cingular Keyboard layout fix and install.
Also I am thinking of skipping step 2) - Radio upgrade also 4) - MWVI ROM upgrade and instead go with LVSW Edition at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298809 which came out yesterday and since it come with Radio 1.34 and are there any steps I need to do with SPL or it will flash fine with Hard SPL? then resume step 5) and 6)
In the future if I want to get a new pda and sell this one, all I need to do is download stock ROM from Cingular and flash it back on my 8525 then it should be back to the state it was like when I brought it overwriting or removing the Hard SPL and Radio and OS?
Thank for your inputs and help!
Bill

... answer, "yes". It's just a warning/message, that's all. Sounds like you have a handle on everything else. Just go for it (and be sure to keep your eyes open).

SSPL stands for SoftSPL, so no, it won't overwrite Hard-SPL. It will run 1.09.des bootloader on your device for the duration of the flash, then you'll be back to whichever SPL you had before you started. If you don't have security turned off on your device (most don't), you'll have to answer 'Yes' when SSPL is pushed to your device because it's unsigned code. It has nothing to do with being Hard-SPL.
Whether or not you'll overwrite Hard-SPL with your flash depends whether the ROM you are flashing also contains SPL (and what version it is). Best to know exactly what you're flashing before you do.
The rest of your plan looks good to me, especially step 1 being to flash Hard-SPL. While nothing can "innoculate" your device from a brick (i.e., sh*t happens), Hard-SPL does give you a way out if a flash goes south on you.
Watch the Cingular settings cabs... I've had some issues with them. I prefer to set things up manually after a hard reset, but that's just my experience. They work fine for others.
Also, IMHO the newer radios work better with WM6. The combo shown in my sig runs beautifully for me (but, as always, your mileage may vary!).

Hard SPL is only there to help recover your device if it gets bricked during a flash. The security is OS dependant and only requires you to click yes when SSPL is pushed to your phone as it indentifies it as an untrusted source. This will probably happen when you install the Radio upgrade as well. SSPL is only a temporary psuedo bootloader and will not overwrite Hard SPL or any other bootloader on your device.

Ok, if you decide to go for the LVSW ROM then download the OS only repack that is posted somewhere in that thread (not the one thats in the 1st post). The reason for this is because it includes a bootloader that will overwrite Hard SPL. Just download OS and replace with Black Edition noted in step 4.

OK, seriously though, the Black Edition patch was designed for the Black Edition, it's probably not a good idea to use it on the LVSW ROM.

Upgrade was a success!
I went with Black Edition and I must comment it got nice Splash screen and today screen! I was a little worried it was going to be gothic looking screen but it wasn't and it is a very nice looking screen and setup and seem to be easier on the eyes too.

BB Connect

Hi all,
Thus far has anyone managed to get any version of BB Connect running on WM6?
I have tried but with no joy
I also need help with this. The WM5 ROM had BB Connect pre-installed, but the WM6 one doesn't. Does anyone have the cab from the WM5 one?

Yes. Tonight I took the time to get things sorted. I now have WM6 and BBC 2.1.2.54 running. (Still no luck with BBC4)
Steps that I have done:
- Extracted the WM6 NBH (duttys tool)
- Hex-Edited the windows.nb
Original HEX string is:
4D3EA0E3063083E3452FA0E30510A0E302
New Hex string is:
1D3EA0E3013083E3452FA0E30510A0E301
This resulted in os version 5.1.465 (like the original WM5 for Athena)
- Used the Athena_upgrade package to flash this modified windows.nb to my device.
One word of warning when using this flash method: Be sure to read out the proper handle for the area where the .nb will be stored.
If you want the whole wm6 on your device do the full upgrade with one of the provided WM6-ROMs before flashing the above modified .nb.
- Don't forget to change the AKU to .3.3.1
Thanks to all involved people who provided the tools, wm6 and whatever. You have my greatest respect!
Cheers

Hi, you only need to flash the windows.nb file. It should also work if you already have WM6 on it. What has to be mentioned is that the itsutils in the Athena_Upgrade Package also did not work for me so I was unable to read out the handle and flash it, but I've downloaded the itsutils from here: http://nah6.com/~itsme/itsutilsbin-20070705.zip
and they worked without any problem.

[RUU] CustomRUU for Topaz

Hi all, I've created HTC Topaz CustomRUU patched to perform a 'task 32' instead of a 'task 28' after flashing an .nbh, so it will not format your device if you just flash a radio or a splash screen.
How to: Drop the .nbh file of your choice in the same folder as CustomRUU and start flashing.
Have fun.

The second that I have now will not. We will have to wait for the unlock.

Yep it will and so does mine ! Symantec
This has ben discussed on other forums and is a known prolem with the custom RUU
Trust me though it will be Virus free . Some virus scanners see it as a threat and throw it into quaranteen .
UDK and others on here are developers and Virus's are defo not their thing . I am not sure why it does it or why it sees it as a threat but rest assured it is not.

OK, it's done. Any anti-virus problems with udk's CustomRUU, feel free to use my wrapper instead.
You need .Net 2.0 to use (which most of you should have by now ).

Can't flash the firmware
Try to use your wrapper but it was still getting stuck at 0%. Please suggest me. Thanks.

CustomRUU's for many devices are known to be identified as viruses by anti virus programs. There's really generally no problem.
Did not work

You need Hard SPL - which isn't out yet. Or the gold card method that cmonex mentioned for language changes.
