PAINTING your G1 INCITE - G1 Accessories

some people with white g1s wanted to paint their battery covers to white as do i. i been wanting to do it for some time but too scared that the paitn would rub off.
well i stumbled across some info about painting plastic... instead of using spray paint.. u can use vinyl dye.. spray paint only covers the surface as vinyl dye absorbs into plastics....
so i was thinking about a little project...i'll sand as much rubber i can from the back and use white vinyl dye and let it cure.
but also i can see you can disassemble you g1 found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PdhXx3g9nU
so its quite possible to do your own paintjob as a diy project using vinyl dye
i will only paint my battery cover using vinyl dye btw and will post results whenever i get to it. =)
TIP: if you have a black g1 and want any other color but white, you would have to first paint ur g1, or battery cover, white first for the colors to pop.
its 4 am right now for me and i dont feel like proof reading..

I speak from experience when I say that getting a good finish on projects like this is hard. You're going to need a lot of patience and extremely fine grades of sandpaper to get it right.
Good luck

lol wow all of a sudden i feel discouraged =O
what do u suggest then? since vinyl dye is absorbed into the plastic...do i sand paper my wee little thumbs off>paint it> and use gloss? or no gloss..

Depends what finish you want to go for. I've not worked with vinyl dye before, but the finishing principles should be the same as for raw plastic.. If you want a gloss mirror-like finish like the white g1 you shouldn't need a clear coat, you'll just need to sand and polish within an inch of your life.
If I was doing this, I'd use a fairly rough sandpaper to get the rubber off, then maybe a 400-600 grit to level the surface ready for painting. Apply the paint, cure it, then go at it with progressively fine grades down to at least 1200 grit.. maybe evn 2000. At this point you will have a smooth but not mirror finish, to get that you need some kind of polishing compound (3m finesse-it or perfect-it is good) and a buffing pad... and a truck full of elbow grease.
The main issue you'll have with this is the thickness of the plastic.. there isn't much of it.. You could easily go right through with all that sanding.

for my money, i'd leave it to professionals unless this is something you have a LOT of experience with. Put simply: $175 for a guaranteed perfect and permanent colorware paintjob vs $400 for a new G1 if I screw it up myself. hmmm....

Personally I wouldn't spend 175+ shipping to paint my phone, I'd rather try it on my own. If I mess up on the battery cover, 7 bucks for a new one..

yea.. i really dont feel like painting..kinda worried . i cant find vinyl dye locally.

I believe car parts stores sell vinyl dye.

anyone concerned with the Teflon coating on the g1's battery door? your not really painting plastic, unless you sand paper off the teflon, but if your not careful, youll end up with a wavy (uneven) finish if you sand too much in one area and not enough in another, and thats assuming the paint actually adheres to the battery door
if you do it ontop of the teflon, id keep the fact that your painting teflon in mind, and not go into it thinking your just painting plastic
could be wrong, definitely not a professional

I have extensive experience with vinyl dye on plastics. I actually used it to "dye" all the plastics inside of my old showcar from grey to black. It's relatively robust when it is dried and LIGHTLY wetsanded with very fine grit (~2000) sandpaper. However... it doesn't actually absorb into the plastic, because it's not porous enough. It will only absorb into fabric and vinyl that is flexible and porous.
The only reason I only used that, was because I couldn't find a good paint with a matte black finish. In your cases, I would first look into some of the paints specifically made for plastics, such as Krylon Fusion, etc. While vinyl dye worked in my application, but there were times where I had to touch up the plastics on my door due to the occasional passenger's foot hitting the plastic upon exiting the vehicle. The "dye" would just flake off, leaving the old gray plastic visible underneath. I would think that the amount of use that our phones see, being picked up, going in and out of pockets, hitting table surfaces, etc... would cause scratches in the dye too easily.

Sounds pretty interesting, will have to have a look out for vinyl dye in the future for other projects. I used to do some light modding with PC cases and XBOX cases but nothing major.
The main thing as with any project is to be well prepared, have the right tools and plenty of time, especially when it comes to sanding. A well ventillated area too helps as there's nothing worse applying your near final coat of paint to find some dust settling on it >_<

Id like to chime in with 2 things.
1. You can dye the OEM battery case to just about any color using RIT clothing dye. Super cheap (2-4$)....super easy .
Theres an extensive thread on it over at PPCgeeks. If youd like Ill dig it up. I did it with 2 HTC Touch Pro battery covers dyed them both from gray to black with excellent results.
2. I dont see how your going to get the back case white while maintaining the rubberized look. Im by no means a guru or work in a cel store or anything like that. But Im unaware of any rubberized "white" battery covers. It would have to be bleached somehow. The white covers Ive seen have all been glossy.
If you go through the sanding and paint process Id recommend a "skinz" cover to protect the paint.
Im highly interested in a white bat.cover but want to keep the rubberized feel.

If you dont mind the gloss then that sounds like a good route. Definitely have to add shield of somekind not only for paint protection but for grip.
On second looks today all I see are "extended" white battery covers =-(.

Has anyone ever purchased from them before ?

okay i put this project off for awhile .. i just found vinyl dye..
you see iwas goin to send my battery door to get it laser etched by that on guy...cant remember his name and then paint my door..
here is a concept pic:

but i think i will paint my battery cover white for now and if i decide to get it laser etched i will contact him and then redo the paintjob.
i will post pictures up when i'm done

just painted my battery cover and now waiting for it to cure and all that good stuff for about 5-7 days.
in the mean time i have no battery cover so i will use electrical tape to keep my battery in and put my phone its its little pouch. it actually doesnt look that bad with the electrical tape.. and i get to take some really good pics without the batter cover lens hindering it.
it took me 2 tries to get it right.. the 1st try it turned out great! but i dropped it on the floor =( so a lot of dog hair got on it.. i was forced to scrub off the paint and use car brake cleaner stuff to spray off the remaining paint..ouch harsh chemicals.
IYO,should i take it to a car place to spray some clearcoat on it.. i am sure they will for it for free for me
and this save me a hella lot of time and money. i dont want to pay 15 bucks and then wait 2 to 3 weeks to receive a whtie battery cover from china.
EDIT: i didnt paint over the camera lens. i just popped it out with a pen carefully. and the picture was taken by my g1

here a better picture in better lighting. its right by my window.
anyone tell me if this is a good idea? to let direct sunlight dry the paint faster?
or is it goin to heat up the paint and still make it soft.
or should i leave it at room temperature then put it in sunlight? any suggestions?

SGP Linear Color Cases

I've seen quite a few reviews / post on the SGP NeoHybrid series cases but nothing on the Linear Color series, thus I figured I'd post some quick photos and share my comments.
After several reviews on how the NeoHybrid series sags after while I decided to stay away from that model and try the Linear Color series. I found out the frame is of the same material as the NeoHybrid, just the back is different / hard plastic. I wanted a two-tone look, thus ended up ordering 2 cases, one in Silver and one in Black. First let me say I absolutely LOVE these cases. I think the look is absolutely gorgeous and the fit is spot on. I read reviews about the back being loose on the international version of the SG2 but this is not the case with our model. There is absolutely no movement of the back case. The cases are also a little different between the Black and Silver. The Black has a high gloss while the Silver has a bit of a flat texture to it. This works well with the combo of the cases as you don't have a full slippery phone with the all black and you have nice break in the texture with introducing the gloss black to the silver case. Overall I would highly recommend this case. The picture I have do not do the cases justice. Additionally these cases include the Ultra Crystal screen protector which is installed in the pictures.

Thank you for the review. Can you confirm if the case covers the top mic? Also, how well does the side piece fit the phone? Is a youtube review it looked like the side piece was bowing out a bit so every time the buttons were pressed, the case would clearly flex.
Wow those cases look sweet. Thanks for the info.

The case does indeed cover the top mic, however I believe it can easily be fixed by some of the methods described in this forum (hot nail, small drill, etc). I plan to give it a shot on mine this weekend. Will try to post some update pictures with a better camera when I do. As far as the case, there is absolutely no bowing / flexing taking place. If it's the same youtube video I saw, they mentioned they had attempted to put the case on with one of those skins on and that make the case bulge a bit as they forced it on. The two I have fit like a glove and again have no movement of the back plate as described for the international version.
Case
I like the pics, and I am in the market for a case. I am definitely going to check these out.
I got my Linear case today and I must say I like it alot! I go Soul Black which has a glossy finish to it which I prefer. Because of this glossiness, the case can be slippery though but i dont mind. The case has a nice lip on front side so laying the phone face down is no problem. The fit is well done too. With a 3 piece case, I was worried how snug it would fit together. Rest assured, everything feels nice and snug. I also verified my phone, wifi, and gps signals are not negatively impacted by this case , unlike my CaseMate Barely There Aluminum which I also like the look of but could not deal with the greatly degraded gps signal.
My only complaint, and this definitely more of a preference, I wish the lip on the front side was a not so high. Swiping from edge to edge, my finger hits the edge. Its not a big deal though.
Overall, I would recommend this case!
I would get one, but I'm thinking about taking my SGS II back next week for the LG Nitro HD when it comes out. It's nice to know there are some good, reasonably priced cases for this phone, though.

Hmm...I like my Neo Hybrid case but it's a pain whenever I want to remove it to access the microsd card or when I had to peel off an old screen protector and place a new one one. Been thinking about this case and was wondering if you could post or PM me pics? (Probably gonna go with soul black as well since I don't want to buy a white & black to keep my stormtrooper look -- unless someone's willing to buy the black shell with white backing?)
Thanks!

Alright I will post some pics later. I will say that removing this case is pretty easy however, I dont think I would advise doing it too many times. There are little clips that attaches the bottom part to the frame. I imagine these clips could wear over time if the case is removed too many times.

Thanks! Yeah, I don't plan on removing the case too often but I'd also like it NOT to be such a PITA when I want to take it off. It's really the only negative thing I ahve to say about the Neo Hybrid case. I wish they offered a white shell w/black backing instead of having to buy 2 different color cases though since they offer the white shell with pink, turquoise, etc. <-- NO black backing, ReaLLY?

I believe it's the same case - the only difference is that you'll get the correct Steinheil screen protector without the home button cutout that comes with the i9100 (aka international) version. The case itself fits either although since the i9100 is a bit slimmer, the back supposedly wiggles whereas it should fit flush on the i777.
Ugh...so I went ahead decided to get the Infinity White Linear case and got it today...
Sux, it doesn't fit right. The bottom part won't clip into the rest; only one side clips in properly as if the width is not right. I've emailed SGP's customer service so they can RMA and get me a new case (I'm going to be pissed though if they try to charge me for shipping & handling).
I'm really surprised that it doesn't fit. I hope I just got one from a bad batch.
I sent an SGP neohybrid case back on the 14th of november and still waiting on my refund. had to pay for the shipping back.

Was the product defective (my Neo Hybrid fits fine but I wanted the Linear case for easier access to my microsd card and battery)?
If it was defective, then you shouldn't have to pay to ship it back.
I'll just have to wait and see...don't know what case to get if they don't RMA and send me a Linear case to fit...(thought about the Taurus but don't want the metal case to interfere with GPS).
sent back due to wrong screen protector being sent, and had also read about how the rubber back saged over time. i bought one of the s line cases off ebay for like $5 and it fits perfect and didnt increase the size much.

Ok, then yes it would make sense that they charge you for shipping. But in my situation, the bottom part of the case doesn't fit properly. I'll look at the S line case you mentioned and see how that is. Thanks.

Skinomi Skins - What I HATE about wet application skins...

So I ordered the Skinomi carbon fiber skin + screen protector for my TF Prime and my Galaxy S II T989. The Skins look awesome. You just have to use a blow dryer on the curved edges of the corners to make it sit perfectly.
The only thing I hate is a wet application skin. I've never had good experiences with them in the past. I always end up ripping them off because: the very tiny bubbles never seem to fully go away even after a few weeks (I feel like it's something to do with the adhesive and not enough liquid), they easily get imprint marks on them and so it doesn't look like glass any more, They sometimes feel rubbery and not smooth.
So I applied both screen protectors anyways to give it another chance. After a week my TF Prime screen protector still looked like crap. A few spots looked like "orange peel" does on a bad automotive paint job.
The Galaxy S II screen protector didn't fit perfectly. I aligned it perfectly on 3 corners but the 4th was too large so it started to collect dust.
I still think skinomi products are great. I used "get25" to get 25% off so the GS2 skin was 15$ shipped and the TF Prime skin was 24$ shipped. This isn't bad for a nice carbon fiber skin. I figure the screen protectors were just bonuses that I didn't really need. I was willing to pay those amounts for just the cf skins.
They have A+++++ service. I emailed them about the screen protectors and sent them these photos. I asked for replacement "dry application" screen protectors. Not only did they ship those, it looks like they shipped a whole new skin + screen protector combo according to the invoice.
Overall, the $24 for the skin seems worth it, but if you're OCD like me and really picky about your screen protector, go with a dry one and pray you don't get lint under it while applying it (I usually buy a 2-3 pack because of this..)

I use the ZAGG INVISHIELD for all my electronics... I've gone from GalaxyS to DesireHD to Sensation4G to now the amaze4G, Xoom to OG TRANSFORMER now to TRANSFORMER PRIME, they are wet applications but I use a bowl of water with a drop of dishsoap, not the spray they give you. I think it brings a better application and looks better without "orange peel " looks... IMO
Looks great! Do you have any better lighting pictures of the back skin? I bought the clear dry (still don't have the tablet) and was debating the silver CF. I haven't seen any good pictures of the CF's though so maybe you could change my mind. Any help with better pictures if you have the time?

There is definitely an art to putting them on, but - once properly applied - I much prefer the wet application ones. Hard to put on, but work super when done correctly.
The bubbles are usually because the solution had bubbles and they dry in place. They are much harder to see when wet and stand out like crazy when dry. Definitely use a bowl of solution and let it sit to ensure it settles all the bubbles. Then be sure to use a squidgy. I always buy a few of them to cover mistakes.
I prefer the Best Skins brand as they seem to give more detail to screens and always go edge to edge. Zagg seems to always be just short.
Use a needle to remove air bobles. Make a microhole and let the air escape ...
I have put on dozens, if not hundreds of skins and wet ones are always easier to apply. You can reposition them, they don't collect fingerprints on the sticky side as long as you keep your fingers wet and they are easier to peel up in case you accidentally trap dust under them.
You only need a light] misting[/B of the application solution in order to get the Skinomi skin applied to your device correctly. If you hold the bottle 6 inches from the skin, spray it 2-3 times just to get most of the surface moist. Any more than that and the skin will be a lot harder to position. Don't worry if the entire skin isn't wet at this point because once you start to put it down on your device the liquid will "squish together" and fill in any dry areas.
For about an hour or so after you start applying the skin, you can work any air bubbles toward the edge. Even if it seems like the skin is dry you can easily work air bubbles out. Just start at the center and use your fingertips or a very soft cloth to "push" the bubbles to the nearest edge.
This is my result using a clear Skinomi skin on the back of my Prime. Installation took me about 3 minutes.

Don't ever do this, you will regret it. If you poke holes in a skin like the Skinomi protectors you will be exchanging an air bubble for a puckered hole, guaranteed. Usually bubbles that don't fade are caused by trapped grit under the skin.
If you have a wet skin and there are trapped bubbles that are really bothering you, carefully peel the skin back, re-wet it with solution and then re-smooth the skin. If bubbles don't disappear after a few days by themselves it is probably because there is some trapped dust pushing the skin up in that location, so you may have to gently scrub the skin with damp fingers to work the dust loose.
In terms of the Galaxy S2. I have never used the Skinomi skins as a screen protector because they are the rubbery kind that I hate on my screens. However if they don't fit right I would try this style of screen protector. Once it is installed you won't even be able to tell there is a protector on your screen:
http://www.amazon.com/SGP-Samsung-Galaxy-Protector-Crystal/dp/B0056C3IQU
SGP makes them for all types of Galaxy S2 phones.

I have only had it a few hours so I have not formed a solid opinion yet. I'll post more as time trials continue.

I don't really like the fact that it covers the LED. I might pull out the razor blade and see how easily that rubber cuts out.
Access to the SD cover.
Stock cable fits fine, if the usb cable has a bulky head it may be tight.
I see potential for my dremel to carve a nice design in the back and let the green show.
So far this is the only major flaw I see. I am just lightly pulling up with my thumb and the top easily comes away. It is a tight fit everywhere else but there.
Only time will tell...
I'll report back soon.
What a coincidence, got the exact same one last night in the mail that I ordered. A little clumsy to get the outer plastic shell on, but a few tugs on the silicone piece here and there and it fits rather well. I do wish it was a little thicker though as that was the reason I ordered it. It seems about the same thickness as the diztronic case. Good review and pics, btw.
I bought mine off amazon for about $9 delivered. Can't post a link yet but just search this:

Looks Like A Tough Case.
I currently have the diztronic case. This case looks like it would provide more protection than the diztronic. What do you guys think? this looks like Otterbox quality. And the rubber being loose u top is a problem even otterbox has, on my O.G. Motorola Atrix the Otterbox case was like that too and I wouldn't always tug on it by accident which annoyed me.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse. I have the diztronic also so that's why I made the comparison, though the hybrid case does seem to be thicker on the corners. Quality/design-wise, the hybrid case reminds me alot of the Otterbox commuter case for the Nook tablet, except the rubber inner shell is thicker on the Nook case.
Funny thing, I had the Atrix 4g as well with the otterbox defender and I returned the case because the rubber was starting to stretch on the bottom. Ended up with the Seidio Convert Case for the atrix before I found one I liked. Hoping Seidio makes a Convert case for the Optimus G.
Just got it today!
Funny, I was about to post a review of my own on this, so people would know that this mybat case belongs on the confirmed list. As reported by the reviewer, it was a little bit of effort to get the phone with the rubber inner case, into the plastic outer case. Once securely seated, it fit nice and tight. I got the black plastic shell, with the white inner shell. It gives it an over all look of black, with white trim.
You can see the led through the white rubber inner case. It's not very bright, but visible under normal indoor lighting.
2nd case came in last night.
Here is the link.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380568091527?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Here are the pix.
White plastic that flexes a little to grasp the phone. Hard with a little bit of texture to it. Black felt like material where the outer case touches the screen.
Fits very snugly when the phone face is out.
When in this position the phone is not very tight, it tipped upside down it could slide out with just a little bemp.
Back clip does not go a full 360. So you can not charge the phone while in portrait position. You can flip it when on the side to charge and prop it up in landscape.
I'll post more opinions of each in a day or two...
Um omg...I have been hoping a case like the white one would show up. Those are my favorite type. YOU'RE MY SAVIOR. I shall kiss the ground you walk on.
Edit: I ordered the black one. :highfive:
I have been swapping back and forth between these two cases since I got them.
I'll talk about the green and black one first.
It is the more protective of the two and I have been using it more than the white one. It does not add too much bulk but the green rubber does like to catch the inside of the pocket when trying to remove it. I thought the top piece being able to pull away easily was going to be and issue but that has not been the case. I have not really noticed it pulling away. The rubber is soft enough that it does not impede on the buttons. In the dark I can see the red LED behind the green..
The only major issue I have with it is when I was using LMT launcher, the sides are high enough that it got in the way of using it on the sides. I didn't try adjusting LMT much, it was neat but i'm used to the buttons. I wish there was a plug to go over the card slots, I have not had to open it at all so why not cover it.
The white one...
I have used it the least so far. The side that fits on the phone didn't seem to be cut well, a little hard to hit the power button at times. Although it fits tight and did not get in the way of using LMT like the green/black one. The fit when you slid it into the back of the case was loose if the screen was facing in, but with the screen facing out it was very tight at first but started to loosen a little the more I used it. the black felt type of pad was starting to wear and leaving black marks on the white case. It looks dirty now.
The clip was the best part about this case. I liked how it held on my belt or pocket and being able to use it as a stand was great, although if it could have rotated a full 360 that would have been better for charging while using it as a stand.
I have a couple more cases coming and still on the lookout. :cyclops:
I'm quite liking the black.

Be very careful with this case. As stated, it's very loose in the holster when positioned to protect the screen (as its supposed to be). Mine fell out and it ended up with a crack and a scratch.

Yeah, I don't like the holster part. I only got it for the snap on cover.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/13084772072...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Fit on the top and bottom are nice, but the sides are loose and pull away easily and the molded blue piece does not fit very tight.
The material is very slick, so glad its rubber, dropped it twice already. The rubber is very soft and flexible.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/26117921643...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Got this one in yellow. The plastic is very firm, no where near as flexible as the one above. It's also got a high gloss finish to it. The edges are not cut very well, I had to take a razor blade to a few seams and around the camera. The flat black outer clam shell part is pretty flimsy, I don't see it lasting very long, tabs may break after a few times opening and closing it (reminds me of a previous experience with clam shell snapping cases). The top does not fit very tight and there is a noticeable gap.
Pix will come soon.
Sorry for the delay. Kid had the camera for school stuff.
Got another 2 cases as well. So i'll post pics of all 3 - the 4th was as no go
First the No-go...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230944810142
When I ordered this case it was listed for the E970 - I got it and it did not fit because its for the LS970 not the E970. I emailed the seller and they were very happy to refund my purchase and they updated the auction to the proper device.
Up next:
White Rubber outer shell over hard plastic black shell.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/390550828392?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
So far I like this best out of the 3 newer ones.
The white rubber is very soft. Probably the softest of all the cases I have tried yet. Buttons are very easy to push and the charge light glows through the white nicely.
Fit is very nice. It hugs the inner black case well, but its very easy to remove.
The back is held in place by multiple little ridges that it fits over. There is a stand that slides out but seems rather flimsy. There is a deep bezel around the speaker and camera. It does not impede camera view.
Each hole has its own plug that is attached to the rubber.
They fold out of the way easily for access to the port.
Here is the stand when pulled all the way out.
All three pieces of the case fit well together but it does add a lot of bulk to our slim beautiful LOGO...
Now for the blue.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/13084772072...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I thought I would like this one a lot but it's turned out to be my least favorite. The materials it is made out of bug me. The black rubber is a little sticky and it collects all kinds of lint (as you can see in the pic's) and the blue outer part is slick as hell. After dropping the phone 3 times in one day from it sliding out of my hand I took this case of..
It collects every little speck of dust and hair. What a pain to keep clean.
Fit is ok, but its loose in the areas where there is no blue outer part.
Shine=slick=ick!
Side grip is lacking on the right, left was a nicer fit.
Top seems to fit the best of all the sides.
Why do we need vent holes over the screws?
Ease of install is about the only + for this case...
And the yellow.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/26117921643...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
This rubber case is by far the most firm, its not very flexible and hard to the touch. The flat black outer shell is pretty thin and the clips that hold it together on the side are not very tough.
Three piece case, Hard rubber case with a plastic clam shell outer with very small clips. I don't see taking this off and putting it back on many more times before one breaks.
The cut around some of the holes was terrible. Nothing a razor blade couldn't take care of though.
The rubber on the top of the phone does not fit well and leaves a gap. Its even visible with the black part on: see below.
I like the overall look and feel..... From afar...
The fit of the rubber to the black outer part of the top was poor. They need some kind of clip there to make it fit better
Pushing the buttons with this case was harder than most of the rest, partially because of the stiff rubber but also because they are flush with the black part of the case.
Now if Otterbox would get off their rear and get us one that fits I could quit blowing my lunch money on ebay...
Well, it's been a few weeks with all these cases.
Figured I would update with the cases I use and actualy like.
The black hard case with the white rubber outer was good if I didnt have to put my phone in my pocket, if I did the rubber would pull away from the edges as I pulled it out. So i was contantly putting the outer part back one before using the phone. That got old quick.
The black rubber w/ blue outer was just too slick of material and collects so much dirt and dust. Also after repeated drops from just losing my grip on it I put that case to the side as well.
The yellow with the black outer snap case is just too stiff, it makes using the buttons dificult. So it's not being used either.
So far I keep going back to the Green and Black case I first reviewed, so far it's the best fit and protection out of the ones I have. I just wish it had a stand like a few of the others. When I do need a stand I end up throwing on the White 2 piece hard case since its so easy to put on.
Hope this helps anyone looking.
My Disztronic Inside a LG-E973 Flip Case
I wanted a flip case and already had the Diztronic one on so i just glued the Diztronic inside the flip case for the Sprint/International version, and it works like a charm. I also had to cut open the Camera and flash cutout a little further around the endges and messed up because i didnt use the right tool.

Thank you for your reviews and pictures of the cases. I have the yellow and black model for my Nexus 4 and just ordered the same model for my LGOG. Couldn't really stand the other cases that I saw because I have used those models on different phones. The one I just ordered is the best one for me so far. Once again thank you.
I've been thinking about getting that case, but it seems a bit bulky. How much thicker does it make everything?

Slickwraps Orange Leather Skin

im using the orange leather slickwrap from slickwraps.com. it has a nice leather texture and nice orange color similar to a brand new leather basketball. so far im really digging this wrap. it was easy to install. see video here. im going to use this wrap for a least a few weeks to give a more detailed review for long term use. this is a completely unbiased review. the only compensation is a free slickwrap sent to me randomly.
my thoughts so far:
the wrap offers 360 of protection and style. the package included the front, back, sides and top/bottom. there was also a nice microfiber cloth embroidered with the slickwraps.com logo an a squeegee with install directions on it. alongside the wrap, im using a tempered screen protector. when i applied the slickwrap over the tempered glass, i had to use a blow drier to soften the leather and adhesive so it molded to the curves and dips of my note 3. i feel as though the slickwrap offers good protection to the phone should you drop it from a height that it will only scuff your phone if bare. so far, this slickwrap is of good quality.
the good:
aesthetics. this slickwrap looks and feels awesome. the quality of the material used surpassed my expectations. i assumed that it was just a sticker that you peel and slap on. this is far from just a sticker. the texture is believable leather with its look and feel. the adhesive used does not leave residue when removed but yet, it stays in place. the true test of the adhesive will come soon. i always keep my phone in my front left pocket. pockets tend to accumulate debris (lent, sand, dust) and moisture (sweat). we will soon see the test of durability over time.
the bad:
my only complaint so far is the cutout strips for the sides and bottoms. the ir blaster hole was partially cut out. i had to use tweezers and an exacto knife to finish cutting out the hold. also on the strips, there is no cutouts for the many mic holes around the phone. there was only one that was cut out and its the one on the bottom next to the usb charge port. the others, i had to use a needle to pop a hole in. also with the strips, some align perfectly flush to one another ( 2 sides to top ) meet at the seams and the other (2 sides to bottom) overlap eachother. i hope over time that these overlaping pieces do not lose their grip.
conclusion:
i will report back in a week and review wear and tear... if there is any or not. also, if anything was to arise say today, i will post picts. i have it pictured with the orange smart s-view case just for comparison. i will be using the phone solo with just the wrap.

I want one! Lol. Applied or whatever to test one in thread but I'm sure I'm a day late and $20 short lol. Looks good man!

one week update for the slickwrap:
the good:
so far, this slickwrap has held up really well. the color and texture is still as vibrant as day one. my phone has seen a weeks worth of every surface imaginable. check-out counters, pants pockets, desktops, car seats, coffee tables. it has also seen lotions, hair spray, after shave and sweat, but the color remained true as day one.
the bad:
lint likes to attract around the edges. it wipes away easily though so its no big deal.
*edit: one more bad point, if you don't line up the holes where the ambient light sensor and proximity sensors are then your phone will go haywire during phone calls because it thinks that the phone is near your face.
im going to order the carbon fiber red one next. im making a youtube video of taking the slickwrap off. i want to see how easy it is and if it leaves any residue.
*sorry for the quality of the pictures. my camera broke and i had to use my galaxy s 3.
Thanks for the review.
My only concern are the sides. Do you notice if they are starting to peel off?

The sides will only peel if you don't use a hair dryer to mold it to the surface. This applies for the entire skin.

[GUIDE] DIY Kickstand mod - Best portrait mode + my favorite case (Spigen Slim Armor)

So, I'm one of those folks who loves using a kickstand.
And while there are a ton of 3rd party kickstand cases on the market, they are almost all oriented towards landscape
mode (movie watching) rather than portrait mode (standing straight up).
And the few that work "okay" in portrait mode are all cheap junk where the kickstand falls apart, or the case is rather
wobbly on its legs.
The Galaxy S3 was the last Samsung Galaxy phone that had a really good kickstand case. That would be the Qmadix
Metallix Kickstand case. Unfortunatly, it didn't offer much protection and was only available in rather ugly color schemes:
http://www.qmadix.com/snap-on/metalix-snap-on-cover-samsung-galaxy-siii-wh-yl.asp
But the kickstand was great! Not only was it super-stable in both portrait and landscape modes, but it's also a very durable,
well built/designed kickstand mechanism. The pivot actually uses metal instead of plastic, so it won't wear out on you
after a couple months of use. My S3 case and my S4 DIY case based on this kickstand, both lasted an entire year without any problems.
While other cases I've tried have all been wobbly or so cheaply made that the kickstands fell apart/wore out after just a
few weeks (or same day sometimes).
So here is my second DIY kickstand case based on the Qmadix Metallix Kickstand mechanism.
Preview of what it'll look like when you're done:

DIRECTIONS:
1) Buy a two-piece Note 3 case that you like. I used the Spigen Ultra Slim Armor on my S4 and loved it for an entire year,
so i got another one for my Note 3. I like the Metal Slate color. Which I found on Amazon for $20.
http://www.spigen.com/galaxy-note-3-case-slim-armor.html
2) Buy a Galaxy S3 Qmadix Metallix Kickstand case to source the kickstand mechanism from. I got my last one from
Amazon for $10 shipped. Who cares what color the case is, as long as the kickstand is black.
http://www.qmadix.com/snap-on/metalix-snap-on-cover-samsung-galaxy-siii-wh-yl.asp
3) Get a nice file set if you don't already have one. I got this one for $10 awhile back and it worked great for my
DIY needs today:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00292IOAA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
4) Break out your Dremel & cutting wheel and sandpaper rolls. You're going to need them!!
5) Get some painters tape too, so you can protect the case while you hack away at it.
6) Get a single piece of $1.00 foam board at WalMart or Dollar General. They both have it. Or an arts supply store.
Okay, now first you need to cut the kickstand out of the Qmadix case. Then grab the foam board and press the kickstand
into the foam board to get a good impression of the kickstand.
Cut the impression out and lay it on the kickstand to trace the basic shape. Ensure your right/left and up/down are even. .
Make your cutout. I used a cutting wheel & heavy-duty dremel type tool. PLEASE USE CAUTION. TIPS BELOW:
1) Do not cut all the way to the outside of the box.
2) Leave 1/4" on each side to finish out with the file.
3) Do not leave the high speed cutter in any location for too long or it'll burn the plastic. This plastic is very susceptible to
temp changes and before you know it, you'll have discoloration on spots you didn't even cut.
Use an 80 grit file to bring the edges level. Anything coarser than 80grit will just cause you more work.
Then bring the file grit up till you're at 400 and smooth things out nice.
Use an Xacto knife to cut out a section of the inner rubber piece to allow the kickstand to lay even with everything else
under the case.
At this point, you could use super glue or sticky tape to seal the kickstand to the inside of the hard plastic cover. I used super
glue on my DIY S4 case but it broke loose after a couple months. For the next six-eight months I left it free floating and it never caused a single issue.
Assememble and take cool pics to share!
Even laying upside down-portrait, it is stable.
And still works great for movie watching. Very stable!!
Here's a side profile showing that the kickstand is fairly flush with the case. Flush enough that it works great with docks.
And one of my favorite things about this kickstand is it works great as a pinky or ring finger holder. I can stick my finger
through the kickstand and swing the phone around but it never breaks free. Very cool for one handed operation!
Uh, yeah my fingers are a little gross. Been outside mowing my lawn.
Hey, great mod, and very nice looking. What I like most is the pinky hole for reading at night because my Note 3 always falls on my face when I read then fall asleep...
looks really NICE! dont think i'd do it because it might not come out looking as good! lol but yes i do also like the pinky finger holder. I just recently bought fly grip for my note 3 which is just like this but it cost 30.00 for a little piece of plastic and a case.. i feel jipped but eh, really dont like my phone falling out of my hands all the time.
Thats awesome
Wow... That looks awesome. ..I have to put my dremmel to work now!
Thanks everyone!
I found a bunch of the Galaxy S3 kickstand cases for sale for just $6 delivered from Amazon. Pretty darn good deal considering they used to cost $20 on sale and $40 retail.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008L5MV6W/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought four of them.
Don't worry about the green case color. The kickstand itself is flat-black and that's the only part you need.
thanks for your post
im going to do this. just waiting on that weird kickstand case to get to me.
You should definitely make a "how to video"..great project man!
---------- Post added at 07:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:02 PM ----------
And after that you could shell it to me..?
I did it. Kinda got a little rough on one corner but I'm otherwise super happy with the results.

Wow, that looks so much better than my first attempt did. Kudos! :good:
How are you guys attaching the kickstand to the case? are you just gluing around the edges? or are you attaching it straight to the back cover of the phone?
Thanks.
when you cut out the kickstand it has a lower edge on/around it. You can put glue on and seal it to the outer piece of the case, then cut the inner piece so it sits flush. Still loving my case mod.

Cool I just finished cutting the kickstand out of the case. Just to be clear, I'm cutting out the space on the hard plastic and the inside silicone rubber piece right? Sorry for all the questions, I've never even used a dremel until seeing this mod... hahah
yep, you should use an exacto knife to cut the rubber middle piece. I had the same question lol
Please guys, can anybody buy the Qmadix case from Amazon and then send it to me ?the seller that has it for sale doesn't ship it international.i leave in Greece...
Great mod. . Will try it. .

I might be able to next week. PM me your address and we'll talk about it in a few days!
I keep my phone docked on a grabby-type dock that prevents it from falling out. It's mounted under the windsrcreen of my Motorcycle and the other day, I had a rather nasty wheelie that had the front end slam down pretty hard.
A mile later I'm wondering why there is no music in my helmet (bluetooth speakers) and I look down... the phone is gone!
Ride back, see the phone laying on the concrete street gutter.
Ugh.
Pick the phone up and the screen is still lit and the moment I grab the phone, the Bluetooth reconnects and music is playing in my helmet again
And,,, no obvious scratches.
This Spigen case rocks. And so does the glass screen protector I put on it. :good:
Oh, and I guess that means the kickstand doesn't compromise the case integrity much, if at all.
cool !!! but i only have Spigen Neo Hybrid
is it works on Neo Hybird too ?
