Hello all. I'm sorta new to xda-developers. I've had a membership for a while just so I can download apps but have never really read through the forum.
Today, I found out about ROMs. I have a Cingular 8525 with WM5 on it. Is it really possible to upgrade it to WM6 with a ROM?! I've been trying to figure it all out by reading the wiki and such but it just seems like wm5 to wm6 is such an enhancement, you would have to pay money for it!
Please, someone either encourage me or completely smash my hopes.

Before you upgrade, PLEASE, read a bit. Rushing in is a sure fire way to brick your Hermes. You need to Hard SPL your Hermes first to give you a measure of protection if something goes wrong with the flash. You can get Hard SPL V7 from the upgrading section, use search to find, its also a sticky on the upgrading section.Your SPL should be SPL 2.10 oli for safety.

The WM5 devices have a different bootloader than the WM6 versions (1.01 vs 1.04) and the 1.01 might be useful for us loading custom roms if it has extra features or less restrictions. I found out a way to copy the SPL data from your device that is safe and fairly easy, but it is a little technical.

We already have the telus and alltel wm5 dumps. If there is a lingering sprint test wm5 phone out there it would be nice, but i'm not expecting too many of those
i just got the wiz and LOVE it! i stumbled on this site SEARCHING for a sim-unlock ... provided by ANTC (thanks) i got it! now i wanna tweak a little or a lot! but ... again i'm a noob with about no experience at this and need some insight (more like a held hand) on how to 1. find a good mod and 2. a detailed explanation on how to use it! i REALLY want to flash rom but need help and i'm tired of going through post after post! (i've been at this for DAYS!!!!) help guys...PLEASE!

There's no substitute for reading the posts. In particular, you need to read the first three stickie posts on how to CID unlock the phone: You have to either soft SPL or hard SPL. Your choice. Verify by checking the SPL IPL numbers.

First post and I'm pretty new to flashing, so am a bit nervous about it. I've done extensive reading on this forum and have got to confess to some confusion - so please be patient with me!
First of all, I'd like to understand what USPL, SSPL and HARDSPL are? I think I read an explanation somewhere, but can't find it anymore.
I have managed to get HARDSPL 1.16 onto my phone and now that WM6.1 is out, I'd like to flash that version with the new HTC SSPL. Can someone please explain the steps I need to follow and how do I remove HARDSPL?

You have to read a little bit about flashing on prophet section, to know very well which type of device you have. When you know this you can use my prophet upgrade program very simple.
