I got mine from eBay. And for me, it wasn't as easy as I thought. I used to dissemble my previous HTC phones and I think the HD is the hardest so far. Maybe cause its slim so everything is packed tightly together?
I had a difficult time trying to pry open the antenna cover. Maybe I didn't get it right, or maybe mine was particularly light. I ended up chipping a part of my antenna cover off. Luckily Im replacing it so that didn't matter. wanted to change the bezel as well but I think I'll wait until there is a video tutorial before attempting again.

White G1 Housing, Attempt
I have just purchased a white g1 Housing set for $50, don't call me retarded, money wasn't really an issue for me and I hate the bronze color. Anyway, has anyone actually attempted this and successfully got it functioning afterwards? Any quick replies would be awesome, ty!
do a search for the service manual. Its floating around out there. This gives a step by step on how to take apart and put back together the dream
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468673
Let me know how this goes. Curious as to the difficulty level.
What condition is your bronze casing in? lol I have a black, but prefer the bronze.
It's in perfect condition, I only got the phone like 2 weeks ago. No scratches or scuffs, I just prefer a different color. I'm going to give this thing a go lol, unless you're talking about a trade or something.
as long as you follow the service manual perfectly (it's pretty in-depth) then you should have no problems. doesn't look too hard to take apart, just ****ing time consuming
wanna link me to the website where you bought this housing?
i wanted white also.

I'm be interested to know how the transformation goes. I'm not really interested in changin my blakc to any other color, but I'd love to get Telefonica's modded chin installed on my phone http://htcsource.com/index.php/Android/Telefonica-to-launch-HTC-Dream-with-a-facelift.html

Yeah, I'd like to try doing that once it comes out, too!
Any updates with the conversion? Like to know if fitment was exact, etc. Really looking into the modified chin though
Anyone found a replacement housing with memory card cover?
I have dropped my phone and will be eventually looking to replace the housing.
But all the adverts on ebay(uk), none of them seem to list the memory card cover. I could use my original, but I kinda fancy a change to white! ;-)
Anyone know where to get this cover?
Thanks,
Really really sorry to bump this.....
Anyone had any luck finding spare G1 memory card covers?
Little surprised no one else is interested in this issue, especially if they fancy changing their housing (for repair/colour change) in the future.
As far as I can see, none of the sellers on ebay include this cover, so don't lose it or wreck it!
I dont think the G1 has enough of a market to mass produce housings, ebay is prob your best bet. You can try contacting HTC and see if they can give you a lead but other than that I think you'll have to look for someone with a bricked phone.
EDIT: Sorry, forgot u were lookin for mem card cover
@Edit: No problem; glad you noticed before I got round to typing reply!
Like I said, every single ebay listing I have seen does not include it.
Just seems a strange thing to for them to miss out, anyone know a reason?

Replacement Hero Housing/Facia

Hey guys,
My white unlocked Hero has sustained some nasty body scratches plus it is starting to turn yellow. I'm considering a full body replacement. I was only able to find this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/GENINUE-HOUSING-FACEPLATE-FACIA-GOOGLE-G3-HTC-
HERO-WT_W0QQitemZ280402919652QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item41495100e4
Do you think that it's going to be as good as the original one? The seller claims that it's genuine, What do you think?
I found a site that has both the black and white housing for the gsm hero.
http://www.truesupplier.com/faceplate-housing-cover-for-htc-hero-g2-touch-white-color-pr-18489.html
How do I know that it's genuine? or at least as good as the original HTC cover?

The web page is called "truesupplier.com". OF COURSE its genuine
How hard is it to change the housing anyway?
by changing housing you will probably break phone trust me ... and truesupplier housing is oem not genuine by looks of it..
He might not break it if he's careful, and has the proper tools. I've taken apart a few phones without causing any problems.
So unless i'm handy at doing these things, I should not do it myself?
What if I have our local HTC agent do it? Will it at least look as good as new?
i have the white hero and would love to put the black case on it.
the site mentioned above says it comes with the tools needed to change the cover, has any tried doing this?
i would love to go for it but don't want to f*&k my phone up!
i think its not so difficult to switch the cover if you take off the backcover there are 6 screws than open the case from the top of the mobile phone and pull it off
but becarefull maybe there are flatcables from die lcd or the trackball just make it slow and be carefull all the time
and maybe you can find a dissembly how to in google
peace
this site has pics of disassembly of a hero but it's in russian.
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc_hero/
If you have to pry the phone open use something plastic so you dont damage the original case. Just in case the ebay housing is rubbish.

whats the difference between oem and genuine
any1 bought replacement white hoising? mine is getting yellow. so need to buy a back cover.
Thinking of buying one myself. I accidentally dropped mine on the tiled floors of my workplace toilets LOL (luckily not IN the toilet). so now there's a little nick on the top left corner of the case.
If this is your first time you will probably scratch the covers but nothing more. You need to be very patient and i will suggest take a look to a good tutorial.
iopened my hero 1 week ago and its so easy maybe in the next days i will upload a video in youtube
bye
I bought the ebay one. It's surprisingly well built (Not Teflon though).
The sad part is that my touch screen got screwed up during the installation. The bottom part of the screen is no longer functional and the sensitivity is messed up overall. Did the replacement in a local phone shop.
Now trying to find a way to fix it.

hmm do you want to sell me your backplate of your old case? i need it please
and to fix your problem : you need a new display glas with digitizer
to remove your old glas: use a hairdryer, you have to heat up the old clue of the old glas and than you can push it easily out of the frame but be carefull not to heatup the frame, the plastic can deform, maybe you can cover it with aluminium foil from the kitchen
the video of the dissembly will be uploaded tomorrow by me
good night guys!

I don't mind giving you my old backcover though it's in a very bad shape (which is why I wanted to replace it in the first place).

MDA V into diamond 2 Housing

Does the innards from the T-Mobile version of the TD2 fit in the original Diamond2 housing.
Its something I'm thinking of doing...and would like to know if its been done or possible at all.
That would be an interesting project, hope you try it out. They only thing that I could think of not fitting is the speaker, which on the MDA is on the side of the device.
EDIT: Scratch that, the MDA also is on the side. It looks like it could work, but the only porblem looks to be the bottom of the phone, which is much curvier
You will need to purchase a touch screen digitizer if you try this. It is attached to the housing and impossible to remove without damage. Also, when removing the digitizer and other ribbon cables, remember to slide the little black peice slightly to remove it. Very tricky, but I have completely taken the topaz apart numerous times. P.M. me if you run into any snags..... although I don't recommend trying the switch unless you have experience in electronics. Good Luck!

I don't have experience! But its never held me back before. At the moment I'm having problems locating a full housing including the front and side buttons..the only housing I can find are without buttons....I was thinking of buying a dummy for the buttons...don't know if thats viable.
Be sure to tell us how it went, and any special steps/problems you encounter.
Although, it really does look more like a cheap LG phone than a Nokia, except for maybe the 5800.

Ebay! Or try CNN.CN for a more expensive approach.
They even sell a full black housing with the matt black if you want to be different.
http://cnn.cn/shop/t5353-touch-diamond2-topaz-c-277_829.html
CNN.Cn doesn't have the buttons included either
i too want to try it, but encountered the problem of the buttons... No housing is sold with the buttons. For the rest i can't see any difficulties, the Inside of the Compact V and the Topaz should be the same, i mean, will HTC manifacture a complete new phone just for T-mobile? I think just the housing is different.
When i find a way, i'll contact you!
I found one supplier....they include the front buttons but do not include the volume or power buttons
http://www.truesupplier.com/original-full-housing-cover-for-htc-touch-diamond-2-pr-18539.html
EDIT: Sorry it does include all the buttons as well as the front keys.....so ordered everything ...just waiting now
Topaz Antenna
does anyone know where I can I get the topaz antenna from ?
Received my casing today....but need the antenna.....the Compact V antenna is integrated into lower back of the casing as one piece....so its of no use
Dang, that sucks, I have searched for the antenna before, but haven't found any. Maybe try a broken TD2 on ebay or something. Other than that I have no idea

Replacing front display (digitizer?)

Hi there!
I didn't put a screen protector on my TD2 -and over time it has become more scratched than expected. I'd like to replace the front display -I guess that is the one called the digitizer, or?
http://cgi.ebay.com/Touch-Screen-Di...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item4837633bd0
What are the chances for getting an original HTC at ebay?
Did anybody do this replacement with success?
Cheers
No one?
check this out too!!!
more expensive and not a word about oem product!!!
So... oem digitizer with just 19$ .... hmmmm! don't know!!!!
Perhaps this guide can help you.
Hopefully it's not permanently attached to the LCD like the ATT Fuze is. I took my Fuze apart and destroyed the LCD while trying to install a new digitizer. Apparently they use some sort of extremely strong glue between the digitizer and LCD...
Hopefully not.. But I think it's only glued to the frame.. I don't really know what kind of glue to use for the new one though...

Sorry to tell you all that the Digitizer is permanently attached with LCD. I know this because I was drop my D2 and went to service center. They change to front cover (case) which was broken when droped. when I get it back they give me back my old front cover and I notice that the digitizer is stick with over part.....
When I ask the service's counter. They told me that they have to change the new digitizer because it come with whole part.. not saparated.
Sorry for my english....
Hi Guide144, you say that when you got the digitizer back it sticked with the 'over part'. To my ears that sounds like the FRAME and not the LCD? Are you sure that it's also attached to the LCD?

Sorry for lag of my understanding, Yes the digitizer is stick with front frame, not a LCD. In my case, I ask the service to change my front cover because it broke and they change the front cover + digitizer.... because it stick together.
Hope this would clear all out.
Hi guys,
i replaced today the broken digitizer of my topaz.
Got one for $60 from ebay, with a screen (i wasn't sure if it was a screen problem or digitizer so i got both.)
you need to unstick the old one from the housing and attach the new one. i didn't use extra glue/stick , since the old one was left on the casing.
cheers
Thanks mistral82cy! Thanks for sharing -now I feel a little more up to going ahead with the operation
Hi! Could you please tell me how much the service center charged you to get the new cover and digitizer installed?
I've to change mine, as well!
Thanks a lot
I would suggest finding the parts list for the phone and finding out exactly what digitizer is needed then buy one online from somewhere such as e-bay. I did this with my G1 replaced it myself and it worked wonderfully. Research before you buy otherwise you might end up buying the wrong one or a clone which doesnt work as well
I dun it myself, buying one digitizer from ebay, getting the old one out was a little tricky , but appart from that it was easy(and i had to do it again, as i dit not secure it properly and there was dust comming underneath the screen from the sides. Any questions you could ask, but it is pretty straight forward.
pistonripper changed his housing, so he would have also replaced his digitizer, so you might want to check with him

If you want to buy one, this would be a good choice

replace digitizer on your own!
Hello everyone!
My digitizer broke last week, because i droped my Diamond!
But don't worry I am a rookie in technical things and I managed it to replace my digitizer on my own.
Don't waste money on repair charge from repairshops! Ok... you loose your garantie but the Cellphone is allready old. The new HD2 is already available!
Just buy the digitizerscreen at ebay... i've paid 60 € and then use this manual:
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc-touch-diamond2/
Now it works like before.

It's a bit hard to see on the photos but if its new can you not return it? if not then you need to look closely between the digitizer and the screen and see if the damage is just the top layer or the screen, if it is the top layer then just replace your digitizer!

As always this site is a big help. Just ordered the items, and thanks to the guide I'm fairly confident I will pull it off. For me the bottom 2cm's of the screen have shifted about 1cm to the left somehow. The digitizer still works "perfectly" but it's kinda hard to hit the right buttons like that

Thanks much! I think this needs to be a sticky!
hey...
just follow the service manual, the phone is *quite* easy to disassemble...
Just one remark : when yo get your old screen, check all the sticky plastics are present on the new one. if not, get the old ones and put them on the new.
I ordered a new screen some weeks ago, got it, and placed it. it didn't work, I think it was because two connectors touched a part of metal... after checking I saw the plastic present on old wasn't on new.... I think it was the problem......
(btw, the s740 screen is really not tough....)
Eh I performed a screen replacement on my fiance's Rose and using the manual helped, but it still wasn't easy in my opinion. All of that conducting tape wasn't the easiest to deal with, and putting it back down was no where as neat as it originally was. And the replacement screen is much darker than the original, although when off they look identical. One of her keys is a bit mushy now too, as the cable in the back was a bit longer than the original so it was folded up in the phone which I don't think helped things out.
Jason
I'm planning on replacing my screen and I've found this guide, which seems to be a good one: http://www.jmedved.com/2010/01/how-to-replace-broken-screen-on-htc
