Anybody spotted a " 3M Privacy Film " for T-mob. TP2 ? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Accessories

Hi
I think 3M brand in kind of nice.
Their product quality is fine without a doubt (for me).
I found this youtube clip about 3M privacy film for BB.
I wonder that may be they will make one that fit TP2 as well?
Anybody in US spotted one of 3M Privacy Film for TP2 ???
PLEASE PM !!!
Here's the clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULBuOh3no8Q
I think it's very useful because the TP2 screen is BIG. It some situation we might want some privacy.
The one I found in eBay look kind of cheap. I prefer 3M if they made one. lol~

Wouldnt you have trouble reading anything while the phone is tilted.....as in the keyboard slided out for message typing or video etc. With the Privacy film you are sacrificing the tilted view, this wont be an issue unless you own a smart phone that actually offers the tilt (that too exactly to the opposite direction). Think about it.....

+1 I totally forgot about it!
But when you tilted, it still in the eyes sight level right?...Anyway, this probably be a bad idea. But if someone willing to try don't forget to let me know the result.
Cheers

If you are still interested in trying the privacy filter, they have them at the T-Mobile stores. It would most likely block the screen when you rotate it but they may let you open the package and try it out before purchasing.

Zagg Screen and Full Coverage

i have emailed Zagg the makers of the invisibleSHIELD which you can get for many htc device and others.
the problem is that on zagg's site for the htc hero Here only have an option for "Screen Coverage $14.99" and not for a "FullBody Coverage"
so i email them this
Hi
I'm very interested in a getting a "invisibleSHIELD" for my new phone the HTC hero. The problem is as i can see you only have a "Screen Coverage" option.
So i would love to know when if ever you're going to add a "Full Body Coverage" for a HTC Hero.

Hello Harry,
Thank you for contacting ZAGG, where we are Zealous About Great Gadgets! My name is Stephen and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
We had a device in our office when we created the design last week. The reason why we only offer the front screen is because when we placed the invisibleSHIELD on the back, it peeled the paint. We are doing more testing on it, because the device we received was a dummy so we want to make sure with the actual device. We do not have a time frame of when we will have that testing done, because the device is expensive, it will take awhile to figure it out if it is necessary or not.
I do apologize for the inconvenience as it is not the answer you were hoping for. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us again.
Thank you for choosing ZAGG. We appreciate your business!

the white version is coated with teflon which is the current slippiest substance known to man. I got a feeling that they might have trouble sticking stuff with contact glue.
yeah thats exactly what they told me. That they had tried to stick a shield but it would not work....
I actually saw some full body coverage on eBay but don't see it listed on the official Zagg site yet. So not sure if it's legit or not.
EDIT: My bad - the eBay listing isn't the ZAGG InvisibleShield, just a similar product by Clear Protector. URL: http://www.clearprotector.com/htc-hero-extended-protector.html

Cheers - I ordered the Clear Protector instead. Not a fan of Zagg IS.
I got a invisibleshield from zagg- hugely unimpressed. They are a nightmare to apply (literally hours), they *gain* air bubbles over time, the edge accumulates dust and dirt, and the adhesion clearly isnt that great- the top corner of mine has moved, crinkling that edge. Sure, nothing's going to get scratched but this is totally not worth it.
in its defense, it doesn't show smudges easily, which is nice. But thumbprints are just as bad as without the shield, making that more or less moot. I'm going to get a soft pouch instead and would reccomend the same to others.

Seconded, I got one for a friends LG Cookie not long ago and it was terrible, although it didn't take me long to put together it just didn't even seem like it was worth the money for what it did and made the phone feel too weird. Not too long after the edges started to peel, get a pouch.
Hi,
Recently I ordered the invisibleshield full body coverage (http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-hero-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php) on zagg web site and didn't seen the warning about the paint:
Warning! If you have a painted HTC Hero, the invisibleSHIELD could peel the paint

I own the white version of the Hero but I didn't know what they mean about "peel the paint"....
So I contacted them :
Question:
Hello,
Thanks for the reply but you don't answer my question. The fact is that there is a problem with the full coverage and the HTC Hero:
According to Zagg web site: "Warning! If you have a painted HTC Hero, the invisibleSHIELD could peel the paint"
So my question was more precise: will the painting be damaged by the full coverage on my htc hero (the white version)?
Best regards.

Answer:
Hello,

The warning is for those that customize or modify their HTC Hero with acrylic paint. The invisibleSHIELD will peel it, the warning does not state, it will peel the paint of the device. I hope that clears up any worries that you have, if you have any other concerns, feel free to contact us again.
Thank you for choosing ZAGG. We appreciate your business!

Well....I think it's a weird answer because I'd never heard about that kind of customization and because the warning only concern the hero
Anyone think (like me...) that it's not safe for the teflon (and not for the acrylic paint as supposed by zagg...), to use the full body coverage according to the warning ?
I applied the Zagg 'full cover' to my Hero last night, it was dead easy to apply, but I'm rather unimpressed with the design. They go to great lengths on the website to stress how the IS wraps around the device keeping it safe, but not on the Hero, the edges - the bits that are going to be the most susceptible to chipping and knocking - are left uncovered.
It hadn't occured to me before I applied it, but I hope the screen doesn't become too 'tacky' to glide a finger across, as that would rather defeat the object of a touchscreen!
Applied my clear protector last night (screen only, didn't apply the back film) and I must say I am impressed with the slickness of the material's texture - in comparison to the Zagg I.S. it is a lot smoother when sliding your finger/thumb across it. One thing though is that Zagg I.S. is cut a lot better than the Clear Protector but it's not too bad. If I was going to choose between the two, I'd definately go for Clear Protector.

what do you mean? The invisible shield doesnt provide a full coverage of the phone? I am still deciding between clear protector and invisible shield.
I also have a clear protector.
At first I wasnt too impressed. The cut on the screen is around 1mm too small along each edge, and a few mm short in length on the rear.
Althought after a few days it has grown on me and seems a part of the phone, phone has lost its smooth touch on rear case, but the protector is very protective!!! I tried a knofe on it as they do on youtube vids. And it really does do a great job, shame it doesnt protect the edges where it would be likely to get damaged when dropped.
Just received an email from Clear-Coat today, who manufacture a similar product, saying that they now have a version for the Hero:
http://www.clear-coat.com/product.php?productid=616&cat=51&page=1
While I was waiting for the InvisibleSHIELD to arrive, I managed to scratch quite noticeably to the right of the speaker outlet (i.e. the metal panel just above the screen). My fault, fair enough. However, I was a bit disappointed when I received the shield as this little metal panel around the speaker is the ONLY area that no protection was supplied for at all.
I figured that I was just going crazy - why leave such an obvious place unprotected? Looking back at zagg.com, it's actually reasonably clear from the picture of the Hero on their page so my fault for not researching properly.
Maybe the shield can't stick to the metal but it's a bit of a shame.... I also have an InvisibleSHIELD for my BlackBerry Bold and was quite impressed that in addition to the big chunks of shield for the larger areas like the back and screen, little bits of cover were supplied basically to make sure as much as possible of the whole body and frame is covered. It also seems a better fit than the Hero shield - adding to a previous comment, it's not quite as good a fit as I was hoping.
I also have the Zagg Invisble shield, but the metal parts are uncovered.
For me it is important to protect the whole phone. That's why I buy the full body. But they have left de metal parts uncovered! And that for $25

Screen Protector - to be or not to be?

Hey guys, please vote here - who use screen protector with own TP2
And those who use, please describe here who is the manufacturer of your screen protector and your experience, how good is it for you.
Most recent HTC devices have come with pretty good screen protectors included in the box. I didn't use a screen protector on my first device, and I'm not making that mistake again.
anyone knows why they don't install it from the factory?
I voted and i own an x1. I use.
I've seen threads like this before and I've always wondered why there is even a debate on this topic. Why would anyone not use a screen protector?
My theory: The next person you see using a touch screen device with no screen protector, probably doesn't use one because he messed it up when applying it on the device.

well the picture quality without it is much better, isn't it? I have now 3M protector on my HTC herald, and it doesn't look as clean as without it.
You should use the Crystal Clear type. You sometimes don't even noticed that it's being installed.

That's true, but when you use your device for some months without any protector, it will never be so clear as with a screenprotector (that you can replace when needed )
Ranney
Based on what I read in the accessories forum, I decided to try a Martin Fields one. Had it on for 2 days now - so far, so good. The one that came with the phone kept peeling off at the bottom edge near the buttons.
I didn't bother with my Vario III, as the ones I tried seriously affected the screen responsivness. Of course it got a key scratch in the first 3 months:-(
On my TP2 I installed the supplied one, and will get a Martin Fields one.
However I've got to return the unit (dodgy radio), so it is vital not to scratch it before returning it!
I messed upp my original screen protector
So i bought the Copter screenprotector from Skalshop.se it's a bit rubbery, but other than that it works good. It came with some liquid spray for aplying the protection. A bit tricky to apply but worked good in the end.
Martin Fields - where from you guys are buying them? I don't see them at ebay for TP2
also - are they really the BEST? or they just have the highest price?
The store from which I bought my TP2 gave me another screen protector - I haven't used the one that came with the device. Probably cost them less than US$1-2 to buy in bulk - I never pay more than US$8 for one retail
Using the one supplied with the evice and it works perfetly (I was against screen protetors when I had a Hermes, but with TP I can barely see it)
I once had a device and when I applied the screen protector I hated it. It improved sunlight visibility by refracting the light, unfortunately this made it harder to read fine print on the screen. I also couldn't remove the protector and was stuck with it. Another one I had tried before that one which was removable, reduced sensitivity too much.
Those are reasons not use one. But as long as the available protectors can be removed in case you don't like them, then it's worth trying them out. That way you don't risk your screen unecessarily.

That's right! I use it and it's better than the one that HTC gives us: I have a new one because it was removed while in my pocket.. But now I'm happier!
I´m using touchscreen phones for many years (since my first PALM ) and i´ve noticed that the new screens are much more resistent. I think that you loose quality if you use a screen protector.
Just don´t put your phone in the same pocket that coins, keys,... and use it´s cover when putting it in a bag.
one other advantage with a phone like this should you choose not to use a screen protector is that since the phone has such a large screen and it's so touch optimized you won't get as much wear and tear on the common points of contact (like the "e" on the onscreen keyboard).
I use Proporta Screen Protectors. After I had used then in my Asus P535 I do not want another brand. They protect very well the screen, they were washable and also doesn't change too much the sensation of the touch with the pen or even with fingers.
I dont use one for a few reasons. I dont put my TP2 in any pocket with coins etc. I am pretty careful with it.
Although most importantly im insured on it, accidental damage w/ no excess to when the time comes it gets a bit dodgy ill smash it up and get a new one. If ive still got the TP2 when my contract runs out/upgrade ill probably wap a screen protector on then.

yes i do and i hate it. it gives a rainbow effect, the mirror effect is minimal, the screen is much darker£.
I do, not from that seller though. Mine are fantastic, I get compliments on them all the time, and an added bonus is that I always have a mirror to check my hair and makeup with!
Can you provide a link then?
I use a mirror screen protector on my htc touch pro 2. I sometimes makes a rainbox effect. But since the screen is black it's not that noticable. It's worth the buy because you get use to it very fast. Eventually you don't even think about it.
This mirror screen protector has saved me so many times. It's worth the buy.
I got 2 off ebay for less than $5.
Buy it, trust me it's worth the money.
I can upload a picture of how it looks on the weekend if you want. Just let me know.

Heh. Wouldn't help me though. My face looks scarier when you can see it clearly.
Where here a re the pics of my tmobile htc touch pro 2 with a mirror screen protector.
Thanks a lot for the pics! I definetely like the look!
A note on mirrored screen protectors though: i dunno if its just the ones i've bought or if its all of them, but if you wear polarized sunglasses you will not be able to see through them unless you turn the screen sideways.
How do these affect display? I assume the display is overall less bright, or a bit washed out?
It does not realy affect the display when you are indoors.
But when you're outside it's a different story. I have the brightness almost on max because the blaring sunlight makes the screen very reflective.
But you tend to get use to it.
Plus the benefits of having one totally outweigh the cons.
You would be surprise at how ofter you would check yourself out once since it's so convineint. Plus the ladies love it also
Say you want to look at somebody in back of you without turning your head, just put up your phone at the angle you want it, and Bam you have eyes in the back of your head
Obviously people's tolerances will be different, but my reading on these is that there is an effect indoors as well, however minor. A perfectly clear protector will obviously allow your display to be brighter and clearer in all conditions than one with a measure of opacity.
The novelty benefits of a mirror protector do come with a cost of visibility. kmx seems willing to bear the burden for the benefits, but not everyone feels the cost is so low, even indoors. If you're really curious, hit up youtube. There are some video reviews of mirror protectors on there.
Got mine from Amazon. Took it off on third day. Lots of VERY visible scratches and some sort of golden glare. A
At first I loved it, but then these scratches were just too much.
So here's a crazy question or 3;
1) would it stick to the back of the phone (I don't know if the full body protection products use the exact same material for screen and body protection)?
2) I was thinking I could cut it to size and use the mirror on the back to a) have a mirror on the back and b) it might be useful for self portraits with the camera (mine is a TMo, camera on the back)
3) Would it still be a mirror if it wasn't attached to the glass but instead to the plastic back?
would it stick to the back of the phone (I don't know if the full body protection products use the exact same material for screen and body protection)?
Click to collapse
Probably not well. Full body protection does typically use the type of material for their own screen protectors as their own body protectors, but it's not the same stuff most screen protector companies use. A lot of plain screen protectors actually "stick" by way of a staticy cling rather than adhesive. I'm pretty sure all body protectors use some adhesive for screen and body.
If you did find a mirrored protector that used adhesive, you'd further have to worry about whether that adhesive could harm the body of your device. It's probably only tested for application and removal from a screen, and might react differently to non-screen material.
Finally, there's a lot of curve to the TP2, even on the mostly flat back. That's going to make sticking something designed for a completely flat surface (the screen) harder. Looking at it, I'd think you'd have to cut an awful lot, down to a very narrow strip, and not a very effective mirror, before even an adhesive based mirror protector would work.
I'm not trying to be a buzzkill, I hope you can find something to suit your needs (a mirrored case?), but beware of the above issues.

not at all, thank you for the thoughtful reply.
I think my best bet is to campaign the protection companies (Bodyguardz, etc.) to make a mirrored version of their case protection. Or an OEM to make a chrome replacement backplate! Or, it might be interesting to see the effect of spraying the backplate of an old phone with chrome paint.
can we get some links to those mirror protectors?

Evo 3D FlipCase

Hello;
I need your help.
I need something like that: FlipCase
There are thousands of sundry products but wich manufacturer has the best quality? Avanto? Terrapin?
It also has to be very thin.
And it also don't should be expensive^^
I had one similar to that for my Evo 4g and it was ok, the problem with that case I had was the cut out over the light sensor which covered the senor so when you spoke on the phone the display would not come back on unless you removed it from the case.
The case you linked to doesn't seem to have that problem, the only things I see that I would be cautious of is the way the phone slides into the part that holds it in place and what I mean by that is if you have a screen protector on it looks like it may grab the side of the screen causing the protector to bubble or peel off. Other than that it looks good, most of the cases like that are all the same and quality is the same as well. I would just go for the one with the best price.
Oh it may take a while for the flap to wear overtime an become soft, the one I had previously was very firm which really was not a problem. Good luck.
The thing with the screen protector is really good to know.
Thanks for the advice.

well I look forward to your review. I don't plan on dunking the guy in water, but it could come handy when I know I'll be in some harsher environments I.E. camping, skiing, etc.

yeah. it's the same brand as the one i posted
found it for $29 shipped on ebay so I will report back what I think once I get it
even if not water proof it might not be hard to "finish" the deal and make it actually waterproof. I wonder if we can get a IR remote to "control" the phone (IE turn screen on and off and start camera and start stop recording. ie the basics.
4k underwater should be neat!
Looking forward to your review of the case. I am really looking for a waterproof case and Lifeproof doesn't have any plans of making one. Let me know what you think. We can always use the camera underwater when you change the setting to use the Volume up to take a photo or start the recording for a movie.
I'd be interested in participating in a petition for a LifeProof case I'd pledge to purchase one for sure. Especially the Nuud one so that I can still feel my lovely TG protector
Please do post a review of this. One way to test the waterproofing is to fold up tissue paper or kleenex inside the assembled case and submerge it overnight. It's not a guarantee that it's solid, but it'd be some reassurance.
hmmm I was thinking then how do you turn it on and off you could always disable the lock screen all together (I think you can do that ???)
but if the camera does not stay loaded..... then you have to surface to do it since the touch screen won't work underwater
an IR remote simplifies things. because then we only need a water proof ir remote. we can then BUILD our own bullet proof 100% water proof cases no problem. since we won't have to interact and we can "BOLT" the phone into the case.
its one of the reasons I am excited about the IR blaster. my concern is that the IR blaster might be one way IE can transmit but not receive.
I wonder. will bluetooth work underwater if the two devices are "touching" each other?

No way I would ever intentionally submerge my baby in water, but if one wanted to they could possibly set up a tasker profile: Context: camera on, Action: display timeout (whatever length you want) for example +other goodies: brightness etc., and do some button remapping i.e. triple click home/whatever (open camera app), volume up/down (record/take picture). Probably need to get rid of that time limit for 4k as well -- thread floating around here somewhere. Just some ideas. Would love to see some videos if you ever end up doing it.
I would rather say after reading reviews off other sites on google the case is more or less likely water resistant and there is too much opening on the case for it to be 100% waterproofing cases. Will update with pictures soon as i have just ordered mine recently.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
this case is NOT water proof. but I think I can MAKE it temporarily water proof. Fill in the mic holes plate that proximity sensor hole (and disable the proximity sensor) Fill in the speaker hole etc.. etc.. (use an ear piece)
go diving? NO but shove 12 inches under water to snap a pic or short video? maybe.
the point of external control is that it is then VERY easy to make a TRULY water proof case. think pelican box with a clear window for the screen and camera lens?
the MOMENT you need to access buttons you either need to use a weak flexible membrane OR you need to "compromise" the case and add water proof mechanical buttons.
eliminate ALL of that and suddenly interesting things are possible and at a price us SCHLEPS down here can afford !!!
have you SEEN how much money truly good quality water proof housings go for. $2500 for a good housing for my camera (good not the best just good!!)
if their were no buttons.... easy and cheap
