[APP] ZLaunchy version 0.2 - T9-like application launcher with a dialpad - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

ZLaunchy - version 0.2
This is still an early beta, so some things might not work
ZLaunchy was written mainly for those who like the way Windows Mobile dialer allows searching for contacts in a T9-like way - so that finding Adam means choosing 2326 in the phone application. ZLaunchy uses the same idea to run programs on your device. What it does is gives you a dialer keypad and when you type in a series of digits, it searches for all programs that match - for example to start Internet Explorer, start typing 4683 - Internet Explorer and Internet Sharing should show up in the result list.
Application performs a search using all items in the Start Menu. It also skips showing application icons, which causes it to work faster than usual application launchers. This makes ZLaunchy a perfect candidate for an application that's bound to a hardware key (using system settings) and have it always handy when you want to find an application quickly.
In order to search for a particular text as beginning of words, type the specified digits - for example 4683 to find Internet explorer. In order to search for specified letter(s) not only at beginning of words, add "1" at the end - for example 4681 will find PowerPoint Mobile.

Change history for version 0.2
* Added support for square QVGA (240x240 and 320x320) devices
* Support for entering digits or text using hardware keyboard
* Configuration panel - vibration feedback, additional search location
* Added possibility of searching My Documents and one additional directory (multiple directories coming soon)
* Searching for strings not only at beginning of words (by appending 1 at the end)
* Optionally run on startup - starts and hides ZLaunchy in the background
* Minor bugfixes
Plans for future releases
* More configuration options
* Configurable, easily switchable "profiles" - i.e. "start menu", my documents, custom directories
* Ability to search in settings items - not sure on how to list items in there from C#
* Multi-language support - both translations and better locale-specific searching (only supports English and Polish nicely for now)
* Support for theming (result list and buttons separately)

Very cool... I don't think I'll need it but I like the idea. Nice work.

thanks for the app anyway, BUT...
you should have mentioned that this app was for VGA only...
you could have saved an install and an uninstall for me dude!

This shouldn't be VGA only. That's why it's still 0.1 - not quite final yet.
EDIT: Fixed - some screw-up in the CAB creation. Now there's a separate QVGA/VGA installer that works fine on both.
@dredd - care to retry?

Great concept seriously !

Oh my god that program is just AWESOME.
That's the thing i missed all the time on my WiMo-phone. On my computer, i'm only starting programs with launchy, it's much more faster than browsing a start-menu or something like that.
If you need help, ask me. I'm quite experienced with photoshop and also can help you with translations (german).
A version with a full QWERTY-keyboard (that covers 3/4 of the screen) would be great too.

Great idea! Wonder if I can use it like filemanager too? I'm always searching for a cab on my storage card. This is brilliant!..
I'll assign it to a button for quick launch.
Thanks for sharing..

Works great! Smooth, fast , Vibration feedback, finger scrolling! Very smart!

Thankyou very cool app anyway to turn off haptic feedback? If not could you implement for future release

Great stuff!
How about options to search for other file type by name? Photos, docs, etc? \
Might make it even more powerful.
As I sad, this is great!

wow it's really fast. thanks. maybe an option to remove the vibration in the next release?

interesting concept! going to try right now...

As for help, if you want to make a better theme (I suck at graphics), PM me. We can work it out. As for translations, there are only 2 texts for now, but when I add in the configuration panel, then I would use your help.

Yeah, that's part of the TODO list. Engine is quite generic, so adding in My Documents or custom folder (i.e. *.cab in \Storage Card\installs) is mainly configuration issue. That's for v0.2 or a bit later.

Yes, one of the first things that needs to get done - a configuration panel.

Then you should install VGA one - although the page now clearly states it.

Very nice and useful app for me. Thank you very much!

Two quick concepts (VGA, without keyboard), one with icons and one without. The blue color indicates that this is the selected item.
The three results are chosen at random, they are only placeholders to see what it will look like
If you need these resources for a future release, call me.

gotta try this!! I've been looking for this functionality for so long!!!! thanks amigo!!!!

doesn't work on my i-mate ultimate 8150!yellow and white screen

Just so I'm clear, what kind of help are you asking for at this stage? I can help test the product but I haven't done any mobile development.
If you haven't done developement just Keep trying it and report bugs! If you have special wishes or ideas for the GUI you are welcome
Im just programming the Launcher Part
All I'm after is an app that uses motion for unlocking. In the purest form it can be like the iPhone unlocker where there's a bar to slide but, unlike S2SU, the bar should be positionable and it shouldn't write over anything else on the screen. That means if you have something like SpB Mobile Shell, when your phone is locked it shows the Now screen. I would want to see the Now screen still. Here's a mockup:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
More advanced features can be things like custom-defined motions for unlocking including no visual hints which in effect will function like a password. As for functionality outside of unlocking...it doesn't really interest me because so many other applications already do that. Is there something you need tested now? When I ran it, it didn't seem like it was at that stage yet.

IMHO, "Invisible Lock Screen" and "Gesture to Unlock" are 2 distinct challenges. I agree it would be cool to combine the 2. But you may need to prioritize those 2 efforts.
My personal opinion would be to implement a small, very efficient gesture recognition module that generates an event based on the a successful gesture match. It would be like "Gesture 2 Action". Then others like A_C could perhaps integrate or make it an option for S2U2. With G2A, then again, it could be used to do anything - launch an app, set an alarm, disable bluetooth, etc...
The invisible lock screen would be nice also, but I think it presents entirely different challenges.
I will reupload Preview B in some minutes, there you will be able to Launch programs by Gestures
You can configurate it in a text file
Scilor, aren't there already apps that launch programs via gesture? Touch Commander is one. I'm sure there are more. What are your development priorities?

But those are usually simple one-directional gestures. Not more complex ones.

I guess what I'm after is what's not available now. To start, a very simple low-impact unlock slider that doesn't override the visible screen, and to finish a custom-motion unlocker with option to hide the visible hint i.e. slider track.

That's true. If the primary purpose of this new app will be to one-up Touch Commander with complex gestures, I guess that would be something new.
I just Uploaded the new Version!
now you can launch programs with it (configuratible in the gestures.cfg)
interesting app, works on my touch. Thanks!
I just uploaded a new Version Alpha 0.0.1
I little improved the gesture recognition and made it a littel bit Skinnable
Iam Primary working on a Launcher, because i dont' know how to block buttons, if iam able to do this, i will implent the Locking function
interesting project but in future it should be possible to make gestures in any app!

[APP][Updated Feb 29] PhonyCall 0.9 [Dev has begun again 29OCT09]

Attention!
I have recently begun working on this project again. Currently, VGA has been fully implemented along with improvements to the "configuration program" included in the PhonyCall package. One of the new major improvements to the configurator allows you to "drag" items such as the caller name, call time, caller number, and contact picture for simple on-the-go customization with each "wallpaper"/phone canvas.
If you would like to help me prepare the next release, i specifically need atleast one set of WQVGA and atleast one set of WVGA screenshots (incall and incoming call.) A variety of different dialer screenshots would also be helpful for any resolution (allowing users to find pre-configurated setups matching their existing dialer.) Right now i have only included the Opal Dialer for QVGA/VGA resolutions.
On the same note, if you have any ideas for features to be included, don't be afraid to suggest. The new version is incomplete, so new features to-be-added are still possible. Don't wait till it is to late, or you may be waiting awhile longer
A somewhat complete list of changes from this dev version are listed below.

Joel,
This will be a great program.
On my htc touch diamond the dial screen is only a small portion of the actual phone dial screen.
An in call screen would be great.
Will check for updates. Glad to donate when it is working.
Thanks,
Doug

Great idea, I always thought the titles were a waste of our diamond's precious screen space. Especially when porting to VGA. Looking forward to the release!!
It looks very good, but will it work on WVGA?
You could place the title of the tab in the place where "start" is now, if that is possible. Example:
What software are you using to edit the TF3D?
It should work on WVGA, but it makes no sense - WVGA screens have enough space to display both the tab title and its content.
About placing the title on the taskbar - I guess it's not possible and I do not see any sense in having the tab title displayed. You can say what tab are you using by looking at its content or the tab icon
I'm using m9editor and luadec - really great tools.
Yes, but it would look more complete imo, but it doesn't matter When you have it finished I will try it out and see if the program/settings tab actually use the space where the title is now, in some tabs it would be useful!
Well, I do not have any WVGA device to test my mod... Anyway, it won't look very nice, I guess the screen will be cutted and it will be even worse that the original Manila layout.
UPDATE, I've decided to release the mod hoping that you'll find more bugs... I've also added a list of known bugs to the first post. Any feedback would be great!

Outstanding work as always. Will test this out for sure.
ok just tried it on WVGA, but it does not work properly. the tab icons are now very small and I can only go to home and settings and it does not use the added screen space, but I hope it will work great on VGA, because it is a nice tweak
I REALLY like the idea of this because of my small diamond screen, so hooray for this mod!
is there a no top curtain mod around somewhere?
bugs are:
- weather tab: is showing only the main animation and no numbers for none of the days, and the forecast animations are gone too.
- contacts tab: the slide bar on the side could be longer (if possible)
- internet tab: search bar should be higher (opinion)
- email tab: the envelope is a little too big (who cares?)
So just the weather tab is really something that needs to be fixed, the rest is just small stuff.
Hope I helped you out a little.
PS I'm using GenY R3 ROM.
Ok tested on VGA Touch Pro running NRG's latest rom. Also using CompactHome mod and bg4all mod.
Bugs
1. Breaks Background for all tabs - Even on selecting new background nothing is shown.
More on this:
a. installed in this order: bg4all, compacthome, compactmanilla - result is broken bg4all mod and backgrounds in general.
b. installed in this order: bg4all, compactmanilla, compacthome - same result as above.
c. installed in this order: compact manilla, bg4all, compacthome - everything is sized correctly but the tab titles are there under the newly sized pics.
2. Weather tab does not show temps or weather for future days. The slots are there just no temps/pics of weather.
3. Email tab has the envelope/email pages cut off on top right. Does not affect the wording so not a major issue by any means.
Great work, but I find some bugs not mentioned before, take a look at the Screenschots:
People Tab: the left dial-icon is cut off.
Weather: long city-names are cut off and overlays the Arrows.
The Programtab icons should be modified, too and start a little bit higher.
Thanks everyone for the bug reports! I must say I've only tested this on R1.1, R1.5 is a bit different in some matters, maybe that's why all of those bugs came up. I'll try to fix all of these as soon as I flash a rom with R1.5.
jodeltje, I had the no top curtain cooked in the rom... I guess I can put it together with my mod.
ACoolGuy, I've completely forgotten about the AllBg mod, since I do not use it I'll have to see how is it done and maybe put it into my mod.
KUR0I, I did not change the program tab, since I'm not using it. But I'll correct this on the next release.
Hello kamill,
For first, Good job and very interesting mod !
I think your mod does not involved 5c9aa261 and 7adfaca3, right? If I'm right it will be very easy to make it works with BkallTabs mod...look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4575344&postcount=55

This is a homescreen/lockscreen app I made, based off of the Windows Phone 7 Series Metro UI.
So far, you can:
Set Phone, Text, Outlook, and People to a certain app
See upcoming appointments on lock screen
See information on live tiles
Launch programs
etc.
Instructions
1) Download installer at bottom of post.
2) Copy to device and install
3) Run wp7s.exe from start menu
4) To access settings, double tap on right side of screen
5) To lock, tap the top bar (near clock)
Known issues
* Animations are sluggish at times.
* Problems with kinetic scrolling
* Unlock can unlock in any direction, not just up.
* ...need more feedback
Requirements
VGA or WVGA device, QVGA is possible but looks bad.
Recommended: Snapdragon processor or at least a very new phone.
Live tiles
The live tiles seen are web pages that auto-update with JavaScript.
In the video/screenshot, one is the current weather in New York,
the second one is the current trending Twitter topics,
and the last two are random changing numbers.
To make your own, just design a HTML or PHP file, use JavaScript to auto refresh, upload it somewhere, and set it to one in the settings!
Also, here are some examples I've made:
Random Number (for testing) - http://jaxbot.com/livetiles/random.php
Top 4 trending topics - http://jaxbot.com/livetiles/twitter.php
Weather - http://jaxbot.com/livetiles/weather.php?zipcode=[ZIPCODE]
Upcoming features
More customization (background, etc)
Smoother animations/scrolling
Ability to rearrange icons
Social networking integration
Hubs

very interesting... would love to see this develop further...
Wow! Very cool, definitly a little buggy, but I'm still really impressed. I didn't imagine someone coming out with a WP7 shell this soon, I will be following this thread for sure.
Wow that looks great! I'll be testing this soon.
nice work man! this is interesting! looking forward to more functions
Yess!
I'm so glad you've already put out the alpha download, unlike Maxci with MaxSense. This is great work and is very much appreciated.
Awesome Development
The Windows 7 Series Phone use Segoe UI font and it would be nice to see it ported as well.
Great development.
this sounds good
i have tried in QVGA (HTC ARTEMIS) its look good
nice try buddy
Nice to see an early port.
However, I think this really highlights the a major issue with the current WinMo 6. That the graphics are on the whole incompetent - poor support for transparency, and horrible font smoothing.
it look pretty well, but it doesn't work on my lg-gm750, wen i execute the exe file says: there is a problem, please reboot your device or se more detaills
niceeeeeeeeeee
wow wow amazing
On my german HD2 there is an FileNotFoundException...
And it does the shortcut in \Windows\Start Menu\Program Files
but in german ROM it has to be in \Windows\Startmenü\Programme
couldnt you use Environment-Variables?
It looks really cool and i would be happy if i can test it on my hd2!
Aah!
I was hoping this would be created by someone...
And now you did!
Wonderfull!
I'll test it out on my phone!
Thx!
After testing: Looks good on 320x240.
Indeed a bit slow and choppy sliding, but it assume you're working on that
You're doing great!

The cab installer I used for this is crap, next build I'll use the default one in Visual Studio, which I believe uses environment variables.
The reason why it says FileNotFoundException is probably due to it looking in \Program Files\wp7s\config.txt, but it may be something else (since it should just ignore it if there's no config and just use default settings).
I'll look into it, and hopefully I'll have a smoother, better running build out later today or tomorrow.
EDIT: Found the problem, it's trying to pull images from \My Documents\My Pictures, which is obviously only good for English devices. I'll give an option to change it and have it patched in the next build.
Thanks

Exactly my point, I'm still trying to get around this, but it'll be some time.
Again, thanks for the feedback all, and look forward to a new build soon.
thanks for your work.
i can't get it to work on my hd2 (german).
already edited all the paths to match the german version.
still no success. "wp7s.exe DirectoryNotFoundException".
what directory is the exe searching for??

The problem is that it is looking for \My Documents\My Pictures\.
Try creating that path and placing a few images in there, or wait for the next build (should be soon).

[APP][WM5&up][20Dec2010][v1.2]MyWeight

Hi,
I would like to introduce my first application for Windows Mobile - MyWeight. It requires Compact Framework 3.5 and Windows Mobile 5.0 or higher.

Description:
MyWeight is a mobile application for those of you who want to keep their daily weight records under control. Comparing them against Body Mass Index (BMI) you are immediately informed if you are doing good or bad with your mass.
Features:
- record your daily weight (and height if still growing up) with a short info when necessary
- present your records on a chart with a time range option
- manage several profiles for more people records
- multilanguage support (English, Polish and German)
- support for imperial (lbs/in) and metric (kg/cm) units
- import and export functions to transfer data between the application and csv file format
The most recent version is always available on my site http://www.genec.eu/MyWeight.aspx
Overall feedback shows that application works fine on the most mobiles. However I received two emails describing an issue with buttons on the main screen which do not disappear when user goes ie. to "About" page. It happend for a particular HD2 and Touch HD, but other owners of these device models state that the application works ok. I am still investigating this issue.
Hope you will provide me with some constructive feedback about this app.
Thanks,
genec

good app...it works very well on my omnia 2...
Cool app.
Since touch screens can measure degrees of pressure applied, it would be great if we could use the touch screens on our phones as a scale to weigh ourselves.

yes because our phones can handle 100+lbs on them...
Just downloaded to try it out.
A small point - for those of us of advancing years, a quicker way of setting the date of birth than having to step back month by month would be great (or did I miss the easier way?)
Thanks!
Cool. I'll give it a go.
Need any help with a Dutch translation?
Can you please add some screenshots?
Thanks
Date of birth:
AFAIK I can use software keyboard to provide the value directly. Or even using software cursors to change a year, month or a day.
Translation:
At the current stage I'm not planing to add another translations - but if more people will ask for this change I would make it.
Screenshots:
I am a new user and still prohibited from including any links on the forum.
However you can visit my page related to the MyWeight by using the following address : genec.eu/myweight.aspx
There are some screenshots and the most recent description for the app.
Thanks,
genec
Nice app, thank you, import worked well.
On the graph on my HTC TD2 is goes back to the last month view.

Hello "genec",
Please give me some files, could do the translation into Spanish. This program is very interesting. You could also include, as a measure of calculation, the diameter of the waist.
Let me know something about the issue of translation.
Regards,
Ok, please give me some time to prepare a text spreadsheet for translation purposes. I will add the link on my website and in case of any other languages need (including Dutch - mentioned previously) it will be available for download, translation and sending me back.
Regarding the "waist recording" - this feature would be added in the future but I have to rethink this concept first.
Thanks,
genec
It is nice and works well on my HTC TP. There is an spelling error on BMI table under "severely underwght" legend. Also I would like to see an option to select Kg/Lbs and cm/In in my specific case my scale is in Lbs and my tape mesuare is in meters
Hi genec,
can we have some screenshots from you?
The it is easier to make myself, and possiible others too, a picture from our app.
GUI Question:
have you used the sense sdk's here from xda, or have you made a different look?
I cannot add any links yet (xda spam prevention).
No I haven't used the "sense sdk" from here and haven't changed the application appearance since it's beggining. I've made it in VS2008 using standard form controls. This app is really simple just to allow quick saving of weight result and browse the results if needed.
Thanks,
genec
Thx for your program, works very well so far.
Can you build in some average value for the weight?
Larry
npoe: "severely underwght." had to be short to fit the screen on some devices. Splitting cattegories Kg/Lbs and cm/In might be a good idea.
Larry Brent: I wanted to create more smooth chart based on average values but the results precision become more important in this case. Maybe in the future I will provide average value with another similar feature.
Thanks,
genec
Hi,
Here is a file for those who would like to translate a few sentences in another language. I will modify application ASAP if you send me the file back.
Thanks,
genec
