Looking for Verizon guidence. - Touch Pro CDMA

My normal hangout is the Titan forum for my xv6800, currently running a WM 6.5 ROM. I did some searches here but I must admit that I am somewhat lost due to all the different hardware versions.
As of two days ago I am looking at a nice and shiny "New in Two" update and the Verizon Touch Pro has been calling my name for several months now.
My two real questions are
1 - Is the Verizon Touch Pro worth getting?
2 - How do I tell what ROMS will works on the Verizon and what will not? This is throwing me for a loop as I browse the forum.
Thanks for the input.

This probably isn't the best place to post this particular thread.
secondly, i would hope you know the Touch Pro 2 will be out in a few weeks. I'm pretty sure they are not even manufacturing the TP anymore. Just wait a few more weeks, get the tp2, and you'll be good. Most generic carrier ROMs designed for the TP2 (once it's unlocked) should work fine. But as with any ROM/device combination, try them out because everyone is different.

I had an xv6800. Then, the keyboard started having some issues. I did a few swaps (still under warranty), and recently I got the HTC Touch Pro. I really like it and I like the fact that I didn't pay for the upgrade (thanks to new every two).
I'm now at the point where I'm not willing to pay a few hundred $ for a smartphone. The Touch Pro 2 and others all look really nice, but I'd rather have a functional smartphone for my business and personal needs. I also mainly tether, so I don't do a ton of browsing on my phone.
I'm running NFSFAN custom ROM Windows Mobile 6.5 and it's been great!

Thank you both for the feedback. I am sorry if I put this in the wrong place, the CDMA forum seemed like the best option when I was looking.
Price is something I am thinking about, with the Touch Pro being 49.99 after all the discounts, probably due to wanting to get them out of stock for the new model.
I will have to check out the other forum and see what the buzz is over there.
Thank you again.

i really hate the vzw touch pro. if you are ok with your current setup i would wait for a non-crippled version of something u like to come out. my $0.02
alot of the custom roms dont work very well at all due to the memory issues the vzw has. most create an unusable device for the most part.

Sprint Touch Pro - Which ROM to use?

Hello,
I've been on my Touch Pro now for a little over a week. It's truly a great phone out of the box, but perhaps it could be better? I noticed a lot of work and posts concerning different ROMs for the Diamond and Touch Pro.
I'm wondering which ROMs, if any, can be used on the Sprint Touch Pro. I understand that custom ROMs are faster, which is good.. but what else might they provide besides pre-installed or removed programs?
If I were to use a different ROM, I do want the Sprint Navigation and Sprint TV apps that are pre-installed. I suppose I could grab those CABs and install them manually?
Apologies if this has been asked, but it seems most of the stuff around here pertains to the GSM version of the Touch Pro. I don't want to try anything without being 100% sure!
Lastly, has anyone posted a backup of the stock Sprint ROM to go back to?
I too would like to know all this as my sprint touch pro is coming tuesday. does anyone know if there is a wiki for sprint touch pro yet?
Count me in. I've been a lurker for many years (back when the HTC Apache came out) and am lovin DCD's rom for the Titan. Now that I've jumped on the Touch-pro bandwagon I'm looking for a cooked rom too. JD's rom does not interest me since it removes features I want, and I'm not sure what the benefit of his rom is.
Same here, except I'm getting a Verizon TP soon.
Is there some page that compares/contrasts the various roms that are available?
Re:Custom Roms
There is a list of custom roms as well as other info you may want to read in the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443869
my fav one so far
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=43229
that one has been my fav. I'm a huge fan of nuerom but its not that great for the touch pro right now. I use 32mb pp and its sweeeeeeet
ive tried all the ones posted on ppcgeeks. the one i like the best is ya4juggs. the newest ones are clean roms so there are really nothing in them except basic stuff, for the person who posted about the sprint navagation and sprint tv. not to worry there is a link for a sprint cabs including the ones you want and more you just have to instal them and your good to go. if you can find them i will post them. dont forget to unlock your touch pro
So, are these custom ROMs just reportedly faster because they have less installed?

Yes, use this one, if you use the one in your previous post it will brick your device.
Are there any ROMs that keep the Bell branding? I remember using a WM6 ROM on my Treo and it changed the logo to Sprint, which got me weird looks when I tried to sell it
Anyway, I basically just want to make sure that the ROMs for Sprint will also work with Bell's Touch Pros.
I like MightROM4 for windows mobile 6.1 and MightROM5 for Windows Mobile 6.5.
I also have seen someone porting Touch Pro2 ROM to original Touch Pro which has some new features.
i like neuroms,, started using nuerom on my mogul! it went from a piece of crap, to a 31mb monster that was faster than my stock touch pro
so now im using nuerom for my tp

What is your recommendation for ROM and why you like it?

Hey all, well I been around for a bit and have been reading and never really posted for the fear of getting the Fire of using the "Search Function". So I read my way through the handsets I have had. I worked my way from the Cingular 8525 to the AT&T Tilt 8925 and pretty soon I should be getting my hands on a Fuze as the Moto I have been using is acting a fool.
So here's what I want to find out and please don't throw the fire at me. When I had my Tilt I had tkalli; thanks Ted; who recommended the HD ROMs and I worked my way from there. I would like to know what ROMs you would recommend and use and why any thoughts and opinions would never go read since I am very willing to learn. Thank you all.
Opinions vary from user to user. Try them all and see which you like most.

Hey there wildcard, nice to hear your picking up a fuze! I've been running the Energy 2.0 series ROM since they are very cutting edge and the chef (NRGZ28) releases a new ROM almost daily which fulfills my flashing needs.
Really I've tried most all the ROM's here (nothing with WinMo 6.5 though) and must say that we are lucky to have such wonderful chefs as there are soooo many great ROM's to choose from.

Verizon Custom Rom?

Hello everyone,
First off let me start off by saying that I have been here for quite some time, and have had no issues modding / customizing my ATT Fuze ( GSM Model ). Recently, a coworker of mine wanted me to customize his touch pro also. He has the CDMA Verizon variant. It is my understanding that Verizon has crippled the devices GPS Capabilities to force people into using VZNavigator.
My question is this ( And yes ive searched High and low here ). Is there a rom someone has built that is specific to the Verizon variant that already has all of the patches correctly installed? From my understanding, it is a not so fun process that is still in Beta at the moment. I will be unlocking his cell tomorrow and will be installing a ROM..... just not sure which way to go. He likes the way mine is set up ( Using NRG's EnergyRom 2.0 ) and have yet to see a single CDMA Variant that has everything in it that he wants. Shy of trying to cook one myself for him ( Which im still in my learning phases ), Im not sure what way to go.
The key thing is the GPS. He plans to buy TomTom or Igo and so far neither work on his stock rom ( Trial apps )
Might anyone have a any pointers? Maybe someone here is reading this from their VZ Touch pro?
Thanks Much,
Wayne

There is really one primary Verizon chef and that is Scott Crosler (sskusers.com), he is purely dedicated for Verizon builds. Another good Verizon ROM I've used is |||bored|||, either way, unlocking the GPS is easy enough once you have a cooked ROM your friend is happy with. For the GPS, search for Verizon GPS Fixv2 (again, thanks to |||bored|||).
These two make our device actually useable, they are God send in every aspect. Best of luck.
^ Agreed. Im using SSK 2.0 rom (Includes Kitchen). Just like stated above lllboredlll GPS is what you want to unlock it. Really fast and stable.
I would definately check out ppcgeeks.com
It is mainly CDMA where as xda is more GSM oriented.
Also i have a rom out a 6.5 mobile shell rom, that is made for verizon phones, but works on others

Touch pro 6.5

hi i hope im posting in the right section, anyways , i was wondering which roms you thought were best for the verizon touch pro. i ve been reading around and ive heard the mightyroms and energy roms but i would love some input
thanks
Verizon TP
If you want to flash your Verizon TP (i assume a ralph500) then you will have to pick a "lite" ROM most of the others are to big. Verizon TP has less built in memory to work with, I would stay with WM 6.1 also.

Developing an Android ROM for the HTC Mozart.

Hi.
This is my first post on xda, and I am hoping to learn a lot whilst I am here.
I am not expecting any help here, but there has been small hype about getting android onto this phone. And I understand that you may be critical about noobs like me expecting an easy fix from you.
I appreciate that the idea makes no sense from many perspectives, this is mine.
I purchased the windows 7 phone 3 months ago, I was a complete idiot and fell for the sales pitch, the salesman promised me the earth, he said I would be able to WiFi Tether on the next update, he told me it would be better then the android evo 4 that I wanted.
As you are probably aware, I am a complete fool. I have however spent many hours on the phone with a certain mobile phone outlett, and my provider, neither will help. And I am stuck with the phone till 2013.
The phone's buyback price has gone down to 1/3rd what it was on the day I bought the phone.
I have now made it my mission to get this phone to run android. I feel so strongly I may even remove the windows logo from the bottom of my touch-screen.
I have already researched some, and expect days more research before I'll be able to do, whatever it is I need to do.
I am and will be keeping a log, of all my research, and hopefully can use what I learn to help people out later on.
So....
Any comments, or questions or support?
CleverNoob
I have picked up a few things. And therefore want to clarify,
I don't want to dual boot the 2 OS's, I want to REMOVE windows 7 and replace it with Android.
From what I gather this means I need to develop an android ROM to work with the mozart, and then Flash it to the phone...?
So my logical mind tells me to look for the android ROM that works on the most similar spec phone.
I am however aware that the firmware or something is different in the mozart, from the HD7 and does not allow for certain android commands to work, therefore the ROM (gingerbread?) used on the HD7 will not be remotely compatible with the HD7?
It seems that there may be a few options for the actual flashing of the ROM already available... So I am going to concentrate on learning more about ROM development now.
If anyone wants to correct me, point me in the right direction, or hurl abuse at me... feel free to do so
I do not know all that much about ROM development.
What about drivers though? Sure it is fine for the chipset as there are Android devices with the same chipset (CPU and GPU)... Although the WiFi, bluetooth, radio etc. I guess it's built into the SoC?
Drivers for the screen, capacitive buttons, camera etc?
I think if you look around, you should be able to find a phone similar to htc mozart and the name which comes to my mind is Nexus one and htc desire...
Although it depends on you that you extract drivers from the OS of both of those android based phones then extract drivers from your mozart and compare if they have same chipset....
I really wonder if it's possible to do all this virtually instead of physically installing OSes on phones for development purposes.
You didnt give up did ya mate!
All of the Australia Telstra Community who got Conned into buying the Mozart over an iPhone due to This Service Provider not having a Contract with Apple are 'root'ing for your Success
just checking if i got it right...
you want android in the mozart just to enable wifi tethering.
well, FYI, its been done and done bro, just unlock your device and install any of the excellent custom ROMs here. my notebook is tethered to my mozart right now.
but if you want to further explore the capabilities of the hardware, no worries- many good samaritans are already doing that. explore the development forums here and thy shall learn!
take care!
Tethering is working now, even with Telstra and no unlocking (7720).
This is my first post too! I was about to post something like yours. I have an HTC Mozart too and I want to install an Android ROM on it though my reasons are different.
As a software developer I have no experience about ROM development but I'm very interested.
So what did you do until now? Any success?
