Help with APN settings/mms settings how to edit them - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I change my mms settings. when I open messages and the click settings then click connection settings it shows the settings but will not let me edit them can anyone help with this thank you

I belive there is a way to edit these settings via cdma workshop but i dont know too much about that

I cant get the phone to connect to the work shop

Does anybody know if they have rooted this phone yet I read the forum about it it does seem like they have yet

Root is a work in progress.

What are you messing with your settings for? if your having issues just run *288 and let it do it. if that doesnt work use the RUU Update, and then reprogram your phone and use *288

I cant I have the Eris running on Cricket I have the phone, internet, text and the market running great but would like to have mms

How did you get it running on cricket? Didnt you have to flash stuff for that work, if so please post me links asap. It will inevideably lead to root.

no, as above, edit security settings in epst

uhhh, yoo hooo! guys, the htc based android phones are dirt simple to program for use on another network..
I've had my eris running full on alltel over two months now with the unl. data plan. Never looses 3G, alltels 3G coverage is wicked sweet.
Getting Voice & SMS working:
Get current .PRL file for your network(alltel, sprint, vzw, cricket, etc..), google for it. Mount your phone thru USB, drag the PRL to the root of the SD card.
Unmount
Dial##PRL
Enter SPC code
Select PRL from SD
Restart Phone
Activate phone with your carrier, lie about what phone it is, i told alltel i'm a Samsung Delve, a phone they have.
They'll tell you to *228 it, this will work perfectly after you've programmed the PRL described above.
Hang up with them.
Getting data to work:
Dial ##PST send.
Enter SPC code
Go to security...
Google for those settings for your carrier and enter all that is asked for in that menu screen.
Do nothing else, restart the phone.
Now, setting up MMS on the Eris is a pain, I still can't get it.
When going to Messages, Settings, Connection settings, ... i am not allowed to edit those settings, they're stuck at vzw values.
IF .. and ONLY if I install the "quick settings" app in the market, disable mobile network, THEN go to messages, connection settings, .. i can now edit those values and change them to alltel's mms addresses... go home, them go back into messages, connection settings, all is saved, good. If I go and re-enable mobile network, ... the mms connection settings switch back to vzw... GAHH!!!

It's probably just allowing you to input settings but unable to save them due to lack of permissions. Looks like MMS is screwed until root gets here :\

how do you get web working on crickets network ive change the settings from the security but still no luck.

Update PRL/Update Profile...

I was curious to what these things did, so I ran them. Next thing I know my internet has been disabled. I have full service and I make sure Data Connection is indeed enabled. What should I do? I'm actually watching my battery drain since it's trying to connect and failing...
PRL - Priority Roaming List - gives you new towers and some access updates as the provider changes things
Profile - On sprint is the data profile at registers your phone on their data network and let you use it. My guess is its about the same for other providers.
If you have changed some of the settings in the phone you can break it and you will have to reset everything and start over unless you find the change to fix it.
So do I have to do a hard-reset? I obviously have indeed changed a lot of settings but have no idea what to undo...
Should I bother calling Sprint?
Well I ended up doing a hard-reset and still no internet... No idea what to do now...

Have you tried to hit "Update Profile" again? If not try that. It that doesn't work then yes, you need to call sprint and have someone walk you through manually programming your phone. I know you're probably stressing but, trust me, this is no big deal. Easy fix for sure.
Good news, I talked to "Bob" at Sprint's customer service and had me change my Profile from 0 to 1 and everything is back to normal...
I give props to their CS, I could actually understand him!
PLease a little more info...
Where and how did you change your profile, is it a regestry edit or what?
I have MSL but where do i change profile?

No, it's in Settings...
Does anyone have cab files for these? I found them on PPCGeeks but the site is down and I am in need of data to download my work emails. I also don't have a stock rom to flash back to in order to get the options back. Thanks
EDIT nevermind found it

MMS Address Settings

I have my Verizon Eris activated on alltel, just used the ##PROGRAM menu to setup provisions to the alltel towers and configure the user/passwords for 3G data and them uploaded the alltel PRL with ##PRL and *228'd the phone and it's been perfect for over a month now, EXCEPT MMS.
I can't figure out a way to change the MMS addresses in messages settings, the MMS settings aren't anywhere in the MPST programming menus at all. If I go to the messages app and hit menu, I can find the MMS addresses in there, they're set to verizon of course, but I'm not given an option to change them...
Is there a way to change the MMS addresses without rooting? .. since the root hasn't been figured out yet.
not really that's an apn setting which has been removed out of the settings menu. once root comes we'll have that control again.
wow, glad im not the only one waiting for this...
I am on pageplus and in same boat. Everything works except mms.
thanks

I'm 100% sure they are not greyed out. I noticed that when mobile data is ON, you don't have access to change your mms settings. When mobile data is switched off, you do...
I am on Cricket, so the settings I am experimenting with relate to that carrier. So far, I have not been successful in getting mms to work, but feel very close. If you have any ideas feel free to pm me.
Thanks

Disabling wireless does not "ungrey" those settings to edit. Even if I could edit, I wouldnt know what to use in them. Maybe this is something we need to wait for root to edit?
Sounds like it.

Well, on my Eris, I am able to input MMS info and I (of course) am not rooted.
Try this: Install the Quick Settings app from Market and turn off data settings from there. See if you get MMS edit capability after that.
The info I am using for Cricket is:
Name: Cricket MMS
MMSC: http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 8080
MMS protocol WAP 2.0

how do you guys get web working on droid eris on crickets network i been trying for days and no luck

metropcs web for eris

hi all few weeks ago i was looking for a way to surf the web on my eris and i had to take it to some one to set it up and he charged me $30 to put a shortcut on the home screen that say proxy settings but after the leaked 2.1 which unfortunately i installed on my eris instead of the rooted one i lost that shortcut so i did my researches and i found that if you download any cut from the market open it and go to New shortcut then Activity wait for the list to load scroll down to proxy settings open it and create a shortcut go bak to home screen and look for the proxy settings shortcut open it and for hostname use wap.metropcs.net and port 3128 click save restart and you be able to surf the web using the internet app
note:if you are connected to a wifi the internet app will not work in less you turn mobile network of and restart for that i have opera mini it will work on wifi but not on mobile so i use internet app for mobile and opera for wifi the rest of apps will work normal on wifi not on mobile only the mail app work normal on wifi and mobile use it to send and receive pix messages
also you must do the settings on ##7764726# and ##778# from @vzw3g.com to @mymetropcs.com for more information on that refer to these post http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1466303
Do not skip any steps!!!!!
This works...
WAP
1: Goto settings -> Connections -> Connections
2: Remove any connections that are there
3: Open your phone and enter ##778#, select "EDIT" and enter your unlock code.000000
4: Set the following values:
M.IP Settings:
MIP_MODE = Simple IP Only
M.IP Default Profile:
NAI = [email protected]
Home Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Primary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Secondary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Security:
HDR AN AUTH User Id = [email protected]
PPP USER ID = [email protected]
PPP PASSWORD = metropcs
then menu and + save changes

so now only i need to set the mms to send pix because i receive picture messages but can't send

You'll need APN Backup & Restore (free from Market) to get your MMS working right. There's tutorials all over about what things need to be put in, but I just modify the 'Production' area in the xml file. Some people create/rename a whole area called 'metropcs'.
I've done this with Cricket. Good luck with Metro.
I have don it but not success

I want to be able to use these internet dependent applications on Metro's mobile data network. So far have been unsuccessful. Is There a Way to Backup Your Metro Flash Settings?
I had my Eris flashed to Metro, but it wasn't syncing my contacts with Gmail correctly. People on these forums were saying that a hard reset would fix it. Tried that and of course all of my Metro Flash settings were wiped and my phone was reverted back to the original Verizon network. Is there a way to backup the Metro Flash settings or create some type of restore image, so I don't have to take it back to get reprogrammed every time I do a hard reset?
How do I know if I have all the APN setting correct?

Thanks about this guide now I have internet and mms working fully. I would kiss you in rl for this guid seriously I spent like week searching and finally found.
Just a tip you can't have mms working without having internet working. You get internet working then edit mms setting with apn backup and restore.

Download APN Backup & Restore from the market.
Back Up your APN's.
Upload them here, so that other MetroPCS users can have MMS working properly.
You would be a hero.
Also, if you want to actually help people, you can do a nand backup, then turn your phone on and delete all of your contacts and information the best that you can, then do a nand backup again, and upload the second nand backup.
APN Backup & Restore is how you edit APN's. They're not REALLY APN's, they're just for MMS, on this phone.
##778 pw 000000 is how you edit most connection settings
iptables in the system is how you put EVERYthing through the proxy (need root)
and APN Backup (then edit it on a computer in a text editor) is how you can edit the APN's.
Make sure you DELETE before you RESTORE or it will just add on to the APNS already there.
here is the eris flash for metro/cricket enjoy...
www-megaupload-com/?d=PV7PQ9UI
change the dashes to dots..
Yes, get your custom ROM in there, and then flash the .zip (within this .zip) that is appropriate for MetroPCS.
It's all there, and it should work perfectly.

Cant save or change APN on Galaxy s5 with MOAR rom

I seem to be getting absolutely no help on the original moar rom thread and ive been without a data connection for 2 weeks now with no hope or luck of fixing it. i flashed MOAR rom and now my data connection doesnt function whatsoever, i can make calls and texts but cant use mt 4g lte service or even 3g. when i go to the APN settings it shows "LTE - verizon Internet" but its greyed out and i cant click on it. when trying to set an APN manually i click save after i have entered th correct APN info but it doesnt save there is no selection for the APN i just created, how can i hack or force my phone to use an APN that i set?? flashing another rom is not an option because ive tried every rom in existence for my model and this is the only one i can get working that doesnt give me the "no sim card" message. theres gotta be a tweak or something i can do to force an APN right??
Same issue here.

Yea, i posted about 9 pages back, all i had to do was call straight talk and the lady reset my data and it was working great. in the meantime, you can still use data if you put your phone in CDMA only mode, but just call straight talk and they will fix it for you.
Im still using MOAR ROM with no issues at all, its really great.

Sprint Hotspot Hack

Bad news, the LTE functionality test hack used to edit apns on S9 and older phones doesn't work anymore. But good news is, if you know your MSL (all 0's for unlocked), you can create new APNs. Just dial ##3282#, put in your MSL, click APN Settings, and create a new APN with the same settings as APN2 LTE ... internet, but add dun at end of APN type.
You cannot modify the APN once you save it, but if you make a mistake, go to general management, reset, reset network settings to remove the APN you added and fix any problems.
Enjoy
EDIT: Updating profile deletes the APN so you should get used to creating new APNs frequently.

I do not believe so but I have not been able to verify yet. I can verify that it does switch APN because mobile data cuts off for a min when you switch to the one you made, and a similar procedure on the S9 did not count on my tethering data. I get 50gb and it didn't count at all, just my normal data. I will test with this new one though.

How did you edit this my phone will not allow me to edit this its grayed out. I try to add a d it dose nothing
works. :good:
how to get "enhanced LTE" working? so LTE stay connected while on voice call?
It seems that after the new update, I can not change it to my new added apn. Anyone could help?
I just called Sprint and they have me all 0's as my MSL. So means I'm unlocked and I didn't even know. Unless they lied. I'm about to find out when I try this hack.
Update: boo add option is grayed out. I didn't take this newest update and I thought that was the update that prevented adding APN.

It will reset to your current update. You could flash older though, as long as the bootloader's haven't changed, which I believe hasn't but could be wrong.

Thanks. I'm going to look for the version I had when I bought my phone 3/12/19.
I think that Hotpot is included with my Sprint plan. Yip I think it's 50gb hotspot.
Disregard.
Following along... MSL 0's, cant "add" anything... I rarely use the hotspot, but at times I *need* it.
Any idea if anyone has broken this yet? I’m in the same boat where even with my MSL the edit functions are greed out.
is this still working?

would love to know if sprint folks still have the workaround for the wifi hotspot. I'm sitting on an unlocked S10 that I haven't shoved my SIM card in yet because I absolutely need the hotspot sometimes...
