MMS Address Settings - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have my Verizon Eris activated on alltel, just used the ##PROGRAM menu to setup provisions to the alltel towers and configure the user/passwords for 3G data and them uploaded the alltel PRL with ##PRL and *228'd the phone and it's been perfect for over a month now, EXCEPT MMS.
I can't figure out a way to change the MMS addresses in messages settings, the MMS settings aren't anywhere in the MPST programming menus at all. If I go to the messages app and hit menu, I can find the MMS addresses in there, they're set to verizon of course, but I'm not given an option to change them...
Is there a way to change the MMS addresses without rooting? .. since the root hasn't been figured out yet.

not really that's an apn setting which has been removed out of the settings menu. once root comes we'll have that control again.

wow, glad im not the only one waiting for this...
I am on pageplus and in same boat. Everything works except mms.
thanks

When I go to messages and input my phone number, then connection settings, I am able to input Name, MMSC, MMS Proxy, MMS port, & MMS Protocol...

I'm 100% sure they are not greyed out. I noticed that when mobile data is ON, you don't have access to change your mms settings. When mobile data is switched off, you do...
I am on Cricket, so the settings I am experimenting with relate to that carrier. So far, I have not been successful in getting mms to work, but feel very close. If you have any ideas feel free to pm me.
Thanks

Disabling wireless does not "ungrey" those settings to edit. Even if I could edit, I wouldnt know what to use in them. Maybe this is something we need to wait for root to edit?

Sounds like it.

Well, on my Eris, I am able to input MMS info and I (of course) am not rooted.
Try this: Install the Quick Settings app from Market and turn off data settings from there. See if you get MMS edit capability after that.
The info I am using for Cricket is:
Name: Cricket MMS
MMSC: http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 8080
MMS protocol WAP 2.0

Help with APN settings/mms settings how to edit them

How can I change my mms settings. when I open messages and the click settings then click connection settings it shows the settings but will not let me edit them can anyone help with this thank you
I belive there is a way to edit these settings via cdma workshop but i dont know too much about that
I cant get the phone to connect to the work shop
Does anybody know if they have rooted this phone yet I read the forum about it it does seem like they have yet
Root is a work in progress.
What are you messing with your settings for? if your having issues just run *288 and let it do it. if that doesnt work use the RUU Update, and then reprogram your phone and use *288
I cant I have the Eris running on Cricket I have the phone, internet, text and the market running great but would like to have mms
How did you get it running on cricket? Didnt you have to flash stuff for that work, if so please post me links asap. It will inevideably lead to root.

uhhh, yoo hooo! guys, the htc based android phones are dirt simple to program for use on another network..
I've had my eris running full on alltel over two months now with the unl. data plan. Never looses 3G, alltels 3G coverage is wicked sweet.
Getting Voice & SMS working:
Get current .PRL file for your network(alltel, sprint, vzw, cricket, etc..), google for it. Mount your phone thru USB, drag the PRL to the root of the SD card.
Unmount
Dial##PRL
Enter SPC code
Select PRL from SD
Restart Phone
Activate phone with your carrier, lie about what phone it is, i told alltel i'm a Samsung Delve, a phone they have.
They'll tell you to *228 it, this will work perfectly after you've programmed the PRL described above.
Hang up with them.
Getting data to work:
Dial ##PST send.
Enter SPC code
Go to security...
Google for those settings for your carrier and enter all that is asked for in that menu screen.
Do nothing else, restart the phone.
Now, setting up MMS on the Eris is a pain, I still can't get it.
When going to Messages, Settings, Connection settings, ... i am not allowed to edit those settings, they're stuck at vzw values.
IF .. and ONLY if I install the "quick settings" app in the market, disable mobile network, THEN go to messages, connection settings, .. i can now edit those values and change them to alltel's mms addresses... go home, them go back into messages, connection settings, all is saved, good. If I go and re-enable mobile network, ... the mms connection settings switch back to vzw... GAHH!!!

It's probably just allowing you to input settings but unable to save them due to lack of permissions. Looks like MMS is screwed until root gets here :\
how do you get web working on crickets network ive change the settings from the security but still no luck.

Custom ROM MMS Mini Guide (If you don't use a prepaid data plan)

Well I m on Floyo 0.15 and had some issues with MMS sending/receiving.On stock 2.1 SE ROM when you have Mobile Data OFF,our X8s still automatically use GPRS to handle mms messages. On Floyo and other ROMS you need to turn it ON which may result in additional charges from your carrier if you don't use a prepaid internet data plan.
So what do you do in this case you may ask! Well if you only use WIFI for internet and still wanna use MMS you should customize APN Settings.
First google you carrier's APN settings for MMS and set it up manually.Be carefull to not use capital letters on some fields!
Then delete every other APN settings leaving Mobile Data ON all the time and Reboot!
This way you can MMS technology without any fear of additional internet charges. ;-)
APN Settings can be found in WIRELESS ->MOBILE NETWORKS->APN menu in any custom ROM!
Hope I helped someone here!
Cheers and enjoy your phones!

basically, my solution is to install quick settings from market, use both APN (internet and mms) and disable mobile data using q.settings.
i am not sure how qsettings work, but it doesnt work by adding mess lines in the APN. and zap, no internet, yes mms
anyway, hope this might help others with the same problem
cheers
ps: i did not mean to oot, i know this is x8 thread, but just as i said above, might help

Thanks for the guidance. After I installing "quick setting" application, I'm finally successful sending MMS from my custom ROM X8
Glad to know that it works for you in x8!
ps: a bit becareful when you turn on/off wifi. in my case, 1st time i use it, when i turn off wifi, the 3g mobil turn on by itself. since they (wifi toggle and 3g mobile data toggle) are in the same box. just pay attention to 3g data toggle after u turn on/off your wifi. if it goes back on, just switch it off again and your good to go .
for me, it was just that one time though. after that, 3g data is always off no matter what i do with the wifi. i toggle 3g mobile data back on again only when i need it

go here and set your phone setting, and choose Maxis Mobile Internet + MMS, and the go to APN settings, "APN Settings can be found in WIRELESS ->MOBILE NETWORKS->APN" delete other APNs, just leave Maxis 2G MMS on your phone. You need to Data Enable to sent and receive MMS.

Contact your carrier for MMS settings. Or search online for them. Surely someone has them up online somewhere (like your carrier's website, for example).

You say your carrier gave you those settings? csky.net and csky.us are not CellularOne domains. A quick google of csky.net and csky.us results in not CellularOne, but something called ClearSky. I guess it's possible that they are a third party mobile internet provider for your carrier, in your area, but that's just weird.

Then sorry bud, I'm out of ideas. I've tried googling CellularOne MMS APN settings, and have come up with about 5 different sets of settings - all different. Which is really unhelpful.
I'd say your best bet may be to go to a CellularOne store (if one exists) and get a person in the shop to look at it, or compare to one of the floor models or an employee phone that MMS works on, to make absolutely sure the settings match.
Beyond that, I'm stumped.

Manually switch APNs

I've searched to the best of my ability and can't find much help. My problem is that when I'm any custom ROM (tried about 5 including CM7, CM9 and RootBox JB) I must manually switch APNs when I get a MMS message. So for example, if I receive a picture message, I have to go into my APN setting and manually select my MMS APN, then go back to my messaging app and hit download. Then once it downloads, I have to go back into my APN setting and switch back to my internet APN. On the stock ROM this was not the case. I have all the correct settings, I'm absolutely sure. I've tried editing the apns-conf.xml file to add my carriers settings. Tried flashing without the sim card in. Can't seem to get it to work. I'd really appreciate any help you guys can provide.

I assume you mean combine the two APN settings. I've tried that. All that does is leave me without internet or mms capabilities.
Seriously? what provider do you have? I'm guessing since you're in the USA judging by the american flag in your profile that you're on ATT or straight talk? Telling us what provider you have would help quite a bit..
Edit, I thought help me, help me I'm dying questions belong in the QnA forums?
Sorry, knew I was forgetting something. My carrier is Viaero. I live in the middle of nowhere in Colorado so its basically the only option. AT&T doesn't cover our area. And now this isn't an urgent issue, just something that kind of annoying. All I was looking for were some ideas on how to remedy the situation, so I thought general would be more appropriate.
Post both apns please
I've verified these with Viaero and with another SII running stock. also had an unlocked iPhone before which these worked with. Another side note, on custom roms if I put in the "APN TYPE" I get neither internet nor MMS. So I have to leave those blank to get it to work at all.
NAME
Viaero Connect
APN
internet.vedge.com
APN TYPE
internet
NAME
Viaero MMS
APN
mms
MMSC
http://mms.viaero.com
MMS PROXY
10.168.3.23
MMS PORT
9401
APN TYPE
mms
Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue.
For MMS Part .... change port number "9401" to just blank

T-mobile MMS not sending

I tried with the default T-mobile AP, which is the old one, and I tried the new one. When neither of those worked, I called T-MO and got their help. They created a new AP using the new settings (fast.t-mobile.com). It also didn't work. Anyone get MMS to work on T-MO?
adding mms to APN type worked for me.
APN Type:
default, supl, mms
Thanks for helping. Didn't work but I appreciate trying.
Here's what I had to do to get it working:
First, reset the APN settings to default.
Then, add mms to APN type.
Next, clear the setting for server.
Then add the mmsc.
Then it worked.

Worked for me. You rock!
This happened to me when I first used the phone with AT&T as my carrier. AT&T couldn't determine the issue and are still investigating it. I ended up doing a factory reset and it fixed it.
Im having some issues on the subject, that i cannot really figure out..
I have a Asus Padfone X Mini (T00S) and i cannot send MMS texts on the epc.tmobile.com APN,
i have tried messing around adding this and that, but all my attempts to send a MMS have failed
supl, mmsc and everything i have tried failed.
I would appreciate it if you would please send me a screen shot from you apn settings and also explain what is happening
Im fairly new to the APN system
