[APP][2010-09-04][v1.2.0] ArkSwitch: the task manager, upgraded! - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

There are many task managers floating around out there, with lots of neat features and great UIs. I've been looking for a good replacement for the HTC Task Manager home screen button that no longer works properly in Windows Mobile 6.5.x, and I've been unable to find one I really like. So I made my own!
SCREENSHOTS AND DOWNLOADS ARE >>HERE<<
ArkSwitch can be opened from any screen that has the top bar visible - I tried to make it simple yet unobtrusive.
You can click the text of an app to bring it to the foreground, click the icon to view the App Info screen, or click the "X" image to close it.
Please see the changelog in the second post.
Important info for chefs and customizers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8002276&postcount=733
And a quick CAB to disable the Close All confirmation dialog.
I ASK FOR YOUR HELP:
If you are using ArkSwitch in your ROM, please post a message here telling me so. I would really like to know. Also, if you make themes, please post them here for everyone else to enjoy. I would appreciate that.
Also, if you're a developer and would like to help with implementing any features, I'd be glad to accept your patches, changesets, etc.
HOW TO USE:
1. Install the CAB.
2. Either reboot (it will run on startup) or start it from the start menu --> Tools.
3. Click the left half of the top bar (or other area if customized) to bring it up.
CUSTOM THEMES:
SimpleGloss Blue | Dusk | NinjaBlack | Purple Pimp | SRG | Hacienda | Showtime7
Why doesn't ArkSwitch show process memory information anymore? Read the answer here.
Historical notes:
v1.0.0 --> 350
v1.0.1 --> 1700
v1.0.2 --> 2739

ArkSwitch has been tested on VGA and QVGA by myself, and WVGA. It should work on FWVGA as well, although I don't think any WinMo device with that resolution exists at this time.

Add free or used RAM percentage, in parentheses or configurable
Possibly take over X button to close apps instead of minimizing? Maybe even the start button?
As possible alternative to the above, have second activation field that kills foreground apps
Prevent ArkSwitch from turning on when device is locked
Possibly add an icon bar for common tasks on top?
Suggestions?
WILL NOT LIKELY HAPPEN:
Making ArkSwitch into a service - it's pointless - see this post
WM6.5 compatibility mode:
In case you don't want ArkSwitch to take over your top bar, you can disable that functionality and thereby have it function as a standard app. In this mode, the original WM6.5 should also be fully functional. To enable this mode, either do it in the Options screen, or manually set the following Registry value:
[HKCU\Software\ARKconcepts\ArkSwitch]
TaskbarTakeover = 0 (DWORD)

Thanks Ark
Great Work

Can I use program with soft-buttons? And can i remove it from bar? Because i'm using WKTask at same plañe?
P.S. Òû ðóññêèé?

Yes, you can use the program with softkeys. You can select apps by using the D-Pad and then the left softkey to close it or the right softkey to open a menu which will let you switch to it, close it, view the about screen, or quit ArkSwitch.
The only way to "remove" ArkSwitch from the top bar is to close it. One of the main reasons I chose the top bar is ease of access. If something else goes there, then this app can't be accessed easily anymore. I've never used WkTask, but from what I'm reading about it, it looks like the two apps would be incompatible with each other, sorry
P.S. I speak Russian as I'm originally from Ukraine. Please don't use CP1251 for Russian encoding, US browsers don't like it Unicode is better.

looks great! but QVGA please ??

Rows were overlapping eachother.
The the program crashed when I chose exit from the menu and I was forced to soft-reset.

I was wrong in my question. Can I put the launch ArkSwitch on softkey?
(My english very bad, isn't it?)

working good
so far so good on my Whitestone (Imagio) 6.5
1. question- is my regular taskmanager (upper most right hand corner) still supposed to function? bc i loose the little icon and get no response from pressing there. wasn't sure from your description if they both were supposed to function at the same time.
2. my device is wvga and i did not have overlap issues like a previous post.
3. the x's all work good and switching between apps works good.
4. pressing softkey\menu\quit arkswitch exits the program and it has to be restarted. "X"ing the upper right minimizes? is that correct?
5. oh yeah- and touching the upper left is working good to open ArkSwitch.
6. Thank you. I have been looking for a simple solution for a finger friendly task manager.

Really quick program, working pretty good!
I do have 2 requests though, which would make it perfect
I am on a 6.5.3 wvga device and I have some icons overlapping the text... maybe you can crop/stretch all icons to a specific size?
and another request, could you implement a way to exclude processes from showing in arkswitch? like start.exe etc?
Really well done so far!

point the button towards \..\program files\arkswitch\arkswitch.exe that works for me.
EDIT: well, the button doesn't work all the time, I think it has something to do with what program is in focus or something...
guess that adds a 3rd request... sorry to a pain in the ass

Nice work ! Thanks Arktronic.

I still have my old Hermes. When I have a chance, I'll flash a WM6.5.x ROM on it and get that working. It's on the TODO list

Obviously you didn't read my first two posts. This application is NOT for the original WM6.5! Only for 6.5.x, where the start and X keys are on the bottom of the screen. However, if you'd like to use it as a regular task manager started by a hardware button or something similar, that could be done in the future through an options screen, which is also on the list.

1. ArkSwitch does not touch the right half of the taskbar at all. I'm not sure which task manager you're using, though.
2. Right, because you're actually using WM6.5.x as opposed to toadlife...
3. Great, that means I can say WVGA works!
4. Correct. Would you like me to add an "Are you sure?" dialog when quitting?
5. Yay!
6. You're welcome

Hmm, I guess if an icon is bigger than I tested with, it would overlap. I'll add that to the list. Can you give me an example of which app(s) had overlapping icons please?
Excluding processes is already on the TODO list.
Yeah, starting the program multiple times doesn't always bring it to the front. You have to have opened the ArkSwitch window at least once before it could do that. I'm not sure why that's happening; I'll look into it some more. It's definitely a bug that should be fixed.

I've customized some "iReflect" icons with "JWMD Icon Changer".
hope this helps.

Are you sure that the overlapping icons are the customized ones? Because it looks like JWMD only changes the start menu icons, while ArkSwitch looks inside the actual EXE to find its icon.

A. I misunderstood "for 6.5.x" as meaning 6.5 and above. Just to let you know i am running plain old 6.5 and my start button still works in the upper left corner.
B. The ArkSwitch button works as well in the upper left corner.
C. Maybe 6.5 compatibility explains why the original task manager doesn't function with ArkSwitch?
4. I would definitely would not want you to add an "are you sure". I hate those.
Hope the feed back helps and is not annoying.

MortButtons 2.5

MortButtons is around since about 4 years, but since there's quite some hype recently about both "touch-able" menu systems like Spb Menu or TouchCube and "click-through" button enhancers like HButton, maybe MortButtons might be interesting for some people, too.
It offers all required ways to launch a menu entry (press app button multiple times and wait for timeout, direction pad, tapping the entry), allows freely configurable items for up to 5 main menus (any number of entries and sub menus; don't believe old sites telling about an entry limit, it doesn't exist since years...), includes a task list (like Alt-Tab), offers many "special" entries (system settings, new documents, calls, new messages, screen rotation, ...), is skinnable, free (though donations would be nice), ...
V2.5 compared to V2.41 mostly adds some "facelifts" (new icons and skins, alpha channel support, images as icons for entries, user defined backgrounds, ...) and better performance, but also some new features like finger gestures and access to the system settings.
More informations, download, manual, etc. is available here.
(Screenshot shows TransAqua1 (new default) skin with Spb's Snowy theme as background, icons are "GlassIcons" .png images available in Rotlaus' forum intended for rlToday).
Wow, Thank you so much for such a wonderful software. I just started using Mortbuttons just a few weeks ago and like it very much.
I have made a skin that goes well with the Touch look and would like to share it.

Yeah, it's only a pity it's still some kind of insider tip while around for years, while similar concepts realized in the last few months make such a fuzz...

Thanks. Btw, it's also possible to create a skin with bigger tiles like the original TouchCube style. You can use any size for the menu entries you like, as long as MortButtons manages to fit at least one entry on the screen...
Nice Mort! I'll try it and give you some feedback
By the way, can I include this on a ROM ?
Thanks for great work, I was using previous version and this is even better. Keep it this way.
Just updated my skin to take advantage of the alpha layer.
Thanks again Mort for all your wonderful stuff.

Nice one, tough the alpha layer isn't very obvious.
Little hint: Zip only the folder contents itself (i.e. no subfolder in the archive), then change the file extension from .zip to .mbz. Having to copy only a single file makes skin installation a bit more easy for beginners. And it saves some space, though usually more by better cluster usage than by compression (most images already are compressed...).

Very nice update, the launch time seems to be much less. There does seem to be a bit of a memory leak? But not sure how to pinpoint if its cuz of MortButtons or something else. Nevertheless, it is a very nice, free, and actually more powerful alternative to other touch/launcher kinda applications.
Also a fan of MortScript (for small, useful tasks) and MortPlayer (THE audio player for winmobile ). Do you have a smartphone version of MortPlayer planned?
VGA & icons pixelization
Hi,
I just tried on my VGA PDA (Dell Axim X51v), and application icons which are VGA-enabled, appear pixelized in MortButton. Any idea on what I did wrong?
Great work Mort. I've been using mort buttons since about the day after I got my vario II 16 months ago. It was the ideal solution to the missing capabilities I had always presumed a touch screen device would come with by default!
I much prefer it to all of these today screen launchers as these seem to slow down the phone and generally use smaller, less usable buttons for my sausage fingers!
One thing I've noticed though, the new built in shortcuts to the control panel options don't seem quite right. e.g. I've added a shortcut to the Memory control panel on a menu. Having launched the Memory panel, the only way to close it is by pressing the 'ok' button on the top right of the screen - neither OK button works....
Alternatively, if I add a .lnk shortcut which starts the memory panel (with the shortcut "Settings>System>Memory>Main = 20#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4") the panel launches fine and can be closed with the OK buttons no problem.
The same goes for Input, Phone, Today panel shortcuts...
I was wondering if MortButtons is not closing properly after launching these settings links?
Apart from this quibble, a great update. Keep up the good work - I'd have binned this phone long ago if it wasn't for this App!!
MortButton and FTouchFlo
Thanks Mort for a great app. I was wondering what is the command line to launch each of the buttons. I was trying to use this in conjunction with efrost's FTouchFlo app where I assigned a gesture like leftright app to launch button 1 by putting the path "\Program Files\MortButtons\Button1.mbi" but that did not launch button1 when gesturing. Would you happen to have a solution?

I experienced the same. But if you link to the 'Button.exe'. It will bring you to the main menu where you can see the 5 buttons. While this is one more step extra, better than nothing.
^ What you guys are trying to do works fine here.
For e.g. go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\MortButtons and see how the shortcut for button 1 is created (if you have a good file explorer such as gsfinder you can see the shortcut as well as the command line parameter).
Basically the shortcut should point to \Program Files\MortButtons\MBRunner.exe and the command line parameter should be \Program Files\MortButtons\<path_to_button>.mbi. Both of these paths should be put in Ftouchflo config without quotation marks around. This makes for a much faster, customizable and full featured launcher than the cubes.
Thanks. That did the trick!

Once again for dummies. You mean:
LeftRightApp:\Program Files\MortButtons\MBRunner.exe
LeftRightAppCmdLine:\Program Files\MortButtons\Program Files\MortButtons\Button3.mbi?
I tried:
LeftRightApp:\Program Files\MortButtons\MBRunner.exe
LeftRightAppCmdLine:\Program Files\MortButtons\Button3.mbi
but it didn't work, it shows an empty "MortButton" window.
Maybe you need to use quotes around the parameter (i.e. mbi file). Otherwise it might be MortButtons tries to load "\Program" as menu informations, which doesn't quite work...
The exact method that you've listed works for me. Are you using the latest version of ftouchflo? I remember one of the versions had a bug in the leftright swipe..
Where can I find soft-reset function and it's Icon so that I can put it on the Mortbutton. Annoying each time wanna do soft reset have to tuck the stylus in the hole.

Item Details are drawn in DrawItemDetailsOn function inside iContact.cpp file. Action name (Mobile, Email, etc) has a fixed width of 39 pixels, text is right-aligned within this width, so its left side goes off the screen. So huge rework is required to properly support VGA mode. Maybe one day I will put my hands on it...

When I hit the keyboard icon (far right) to bring up the alphabet, if I hit a letter, the scroll list of names jumps to that letter....great...however, now if I use the D-pad up/down buttons to move down in that letter, it jumps back to the previous location. Hopefully that makes sense. Before I could use the D-Pad buttons and it would stay in the letter that I just jumped to.

that is obviously true for every other app in the market.
that's the challenge. you have to keep it so good so that people will want to buy it.
.. just my opinion on the subject.
I seem to have a little buggette -
If I minimize the app in Favourites view, when I restore it, switch to main view and try to use the grid, it freezes. I can only unfreeze it by closing it.

Two bugs I've found so far and it seems to affect both your version and supware.net's version too.
When clicking on Favourite it hangs the phone for about 8 seconds. When clicking on Recent calls it hangs the phone for 5 seconds and the icon for the A-Z disappears (reappears again if you click the middle icon).
Feature request. There is no separation of call types (incoming, outgoing and missed). You have to go into each entry to find out what type it is.
Is there any way of having a colored icon on the entry so we can tell quickly what type it is?
Bug in contact details?
Switched to contact details on this version will produce contact info plus many blank lines where there is not supposed to have any lines. Previous be4.0 does not have this problem.
Feature Request
Option to bring up keyboard automatically when started if on the opening screen (I always use that to get to the letter of the person I want to call or lookup).
Great work!
Question \ Feature Request
Is there a way to make iContacts start in Favorites? I call my favorites more than anyone else. I currently have to take an extra step to get to them now, as the application starts in the general contacts list....
If it can't be done currently, could you please add that feature?
Thanks.

Same problem here... will use 4.0 for now.
Feature request: could you change the time displayed at the title bar in 12 hr format as well?
Thanks for the great work!

[ROM] - 06/12/2009 - LouzeBerry - 6.5/21812 - Original TF3D + Fuzeberry

'LouzeBerry' 6.5 ROM -- Version 061209 (changelog below)
This is my latest personal build. I'm posting it because I didn't notice any chefs putting together 6.5s with the standard TF3D, and I figured there might be people like me who are waiting until xboxmod gets done with converting the shipped version of TF3D2 to make the switch.
Getting to know this ROM:
* 6.5 Build 21812
* TF3D STANDARD with the FuzeBerry theme (turned off by default in favor of the new 6.5 Titanium interface; you can switch it in the Today settings).
* FuzeBerry for the 6.5 Titanium interface.
* Rhodium menu enhancement
* Tachi-style notifications (uninstallable)
* Opera 9.5 16277, Advanced Config, Google Maps, Titanium Customizer, Total Commander, Weathermaster (all uninstallable)
* HTC Album 2.5, with the social networking uploaders. I'm not crazy about the new behaviors 3.0, or about the fact that the uploaders aren't currently included in that version.
* Available with and without HTC on-screen keyboards.
* User Customization compatible.
(See further notes in next post)
061209B-KB - With HTC Keyboard
061209B-NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier)
- Updated to 21812. Scrolling is getting SNAPPY.
- Switched from HTC's Config Setup to WM6.5's
- Several updated packages, including a more WM6.5-friendly version of the HTC Task Manager
* Please re-download if you grabbed the original version. Corrected version is 061209B.
* If you have trouble starting YouTube: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3953769&postcount=124
Other recommended build:
052109KB - With HTC Keyboard
052109NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier)
- Returned to 21222 SYS. To put it eloquently, it's many much more betterer. Seems faster than the newer builds, and several people in the kitchen thread report minor bugs with 21231/2 they didn't see in 21222.
- Updated Google Maps. Street View!
- New Bluetooth driver. Da_G's description: It "has been modified to remove AVRCP being tied directly to WMP, that is it should function with whatever app you're using that supports AVRCP control now."
- New keyboard driver. The home key now calls the start menu (hitting the end key, as before, will get you to the home screen)
- Some new wallpapers. Hope you like indy chick rockers and/or bluegrass-informed acoustic alternative. Want an LB wallpaper that exactly matches the color of the current welcomehead (hey, I think it looks nice)? Download the "Blueback.zip" attached to this post (made it after the build).
(Previous changelogs in next post)
MobileMatt, Mr. Fuzeberry himself, is now mirroring the ROM at http://www.fuzeberry.com/ may not always be the latest build)
Many thanks to Da_G for the kitchen, NRGZ28, Captain_Throwback, At0mAng for his own kitchen and patience, MobileMatt for creating Fuzeberry and mirroring LB, davitru for more mirrors, and all the other usual peeps.

Important Notes:
* Standard dialer, but skinned to look much nicer than it does by default.
* HTC Volume is omitted, because it won't change in-call volume without the HTC Dialer. Instead includes an app that looks almost identical
* Keyboard configured for the Fuze. Use this if you've got a non-Fuze Touch Pro.
* Removed certain redundant TF3D tabs. If you want them back, disable TF3D and unzip this to your windows folder.
* Any trouble installing items or accessing 'net with with JBEd? Go into JBed's network settings and manually pick the network appropriate for your carrier. Only a concern under certain network setups for the phone.
* Not everyone loves the Tachi notifications; they don't always act like you'd think. You can uninstall them under "Remove Programs." That will get you the default WM-style notifications. If you want the HTC-style large-button notifications (like on the stock ROM), install this as well.
* Beginning with 050609, the BioTouch files that are the core of the TouchFlo finger-scrolling are omitted, as they interfere with WM6.5's own scrolling in some cases. The practical upshot is that finger scrolling should be improved in many applications, but it won't work at all in YouTube. But using this application, you can scroll through YouTube (and lots of other stuff) nice and quickly with the scroll wheel. If you really can't live with this, install this cab for the old behavior (YT scrolling may still be choppy).
* Don't like the FuzeBerry look? Dirty commie.
--- Install this cab (updated 051809 - redownload if you got it before then) to get back the original WM6.5 icons in Titanium and the Start Menu.
--- Install this cab to get back the original Start Menu icons, but to keep Titanium in the FuzeBerry Theme.
--- And this to put TF3D back to the default look.
Warning: By doing any of this, you sacrifice super-awesomeness.
* Want an HTC Dialer back? Try the Tachi dialer. Caveats: It doesn't work in landscape, and the edit contact function won't do anything without TF3D2. But it does let you uninstall SetVolume and get HTC's Volume Rocker back (you can install HTC Volume w/o an HTC Dialer, but you won't be able to change in-call volume).
Older downloads/changelogs (see first post for most current changelog):
052709KB - With HTC Keyboard
052709NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier)
- Upgraded to 21725. Da_G says this is almost certainly 6.5.0.1
- New build brings a faster, slightly nicer IE. Also brings updates to all the widgets, and the return of the weather widget. They're faster and slicker than before.
- Minor tweaks and cleanup. Updates the "Rock and Republic LB" theme with a slightly different wallpaper (now matches the color of the welcomehead)
- Also adding today to Post No. 2: "Partial DeFuzeBerrify" cab, to keep the FuzeBerry look on Titanium, but to get original WM6.5 icons on the Start Menu. If you want more visual consistency on the Start Menu, but want to keep the grooviness of FuzeBerry elsewhere, this is good compromise.
052109KB - With HTC Keyboard
052109NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier)

051809KB - With HTC Keyboard UPLOADING - mirror by davitru
051809NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier) - mirror by davitru
- FINALLY organized the Start Menu.
- Speed tweaks
- Changed Connection Setup settings so it won't notify you automatically on first normal boot (was like this until a few builds ago). Make sure you run it manually if you're not prompted for setup during initial customization (you might be, depending on if/how you did your sdconfig.txt)
- Updated the Defuzeberrify cab from the post below (link is the same; file has been replaced) to include the folder icons for the organized start menu).
- Note (discovered after cooking): MP3 Trimmer is installed, but the lnk is missing from the Start Menu. It's in the Windows folder, and you can copy it into the Start Menu from there.
051609KB - With HTC Keyboard - mirror by davitru
051609NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier) - mirror by davitru
- Moved to 21232
- All MS Widgets now included
- Note: This is (probably) the last build where I'm leaving the Start Menu a big, flat mess. My weekend project is finally getting it organized.
051409KB - With HTC Keyboard - Mirror by davitru
051409NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier) - Mirror by davitru
- Moved to brand-spankin' new build, 21231
- Added "MyPhone"
- NetCF3.5 is now installed during initial customization, instead of cooked in, for better compatibility with 21231
- Minor additions/enhancements that come with the new kitchen
050609KB - With HTC Keyboard. Mirror by davitru.
050609NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier). Mirror by davitru.
- Fixed Initial Customization error in 050509KB version
- "Comm Mgr" in the Titanium Home screen now properly opens the Comm Manager, instead of the clock.
- The Biotouch.exe/Biotouch.dll files have been removed. See important notes in the next post on the impact of this.
050509KB - With HTC Keyboard
050509NOKB - Without HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboard easier)
- Moved to 21222, brand new build. With it comes improvements to IE, and possibly more responsive scrolling.
- No more freezes starting an SMS (hotfix was available in last version)
- PTT Button brings up new-style Comm Manager by default on Fuze
- New Welcomehead & Purple LB Wallpaper
050109KB -- with HTC Keyboard
050109NOKB -- NO HTC Keyboard (makes installing third-party keyboards easier)
- Moved to 21215, and a new kitchen. Should be snappier, and memory management should be better.
- I've disabled the automatic network setup on first boot. This prevents some people from having to go through it twice if something in their personal UC triggers it. Go to Start --> Settings --> Connections and select Connection Wizard to get set up.
- New Welcomehead, new versions of the wallpapers.
- Added in Adobe Reader
- HOTFIX: If you have freezes typing in names for an SMS, install THIS (only affects the KB build)

Sounds good! Ill be watching for updates.
Hey smith great roms, especially the latest one here its simply amazing. I have a few quirks that I have found. For a while now the last few of you roms have a bug where it shows the old style comm manager when using the PTT button. But the link in Start menu>settings>connections>comm manager is the right kind. I use the comm manager a lot do disable and enable 3g to save battery and not being able to get to it quickly is very bad.
Also could you add weather to the WM6.5 home menu like the mystic series rom.
Otherwise great rom.

I agree if when using settings, personal, buttons, and select comm manager that it lets us select the full comm manager that gives all the options. This would be a nice feature. For the weather thing just use chome editor bro, thats what i do to add panels/pages/etc. Thats not a biggie at all.

That Comm Manager issue has long been on my "Bugs me, but not a whole lot, and I've got other stuff to do" list for a while. But tonight I took a crack at it and came up with a fix:
Go into \Windows\Start Menu with Total Commander, and rename "Comm MAnager.lnk" to "Communications.lnk" -- or whatever name you might prefer. Then go into the Buttons control panel and select your newly renamed link. From now on, the button will go to the new manager.
"Comm Manager" will still be an option on the list, and you can switch to that if for any reason you ever decide you want the old-style manager (not that I can imagine you would).
It'll be set up that way by default in the next build. Edit: This is fixed in the current build.
If anyone's curious, the problem is that the button was actually pointing to a "comm manager" link in the Appbuttons folder, not the one in the start menu, and so long as both had the same name, only one would show up in the buttons control panel.
-----------
For the weather, I'm shying away from tools and plugins that are still under very active development. They get upgraded too quickly for me to feel it's very useful to include them in a ROM (although I certainly have done a ton of ROM updates over a short time, that should slow down now that virtually all kinks are worked out). I recommend setting up an SDConfig.txt file on your SD card to have anything like that installed by User Customization on the initial boot (that's how I have both Fav People and Titanium Weather getting installed on my own Fuze).
Hi Lou
after 041709B i flashed your new rom. Since now its excelent rom. I try it and give feedback. Is there any way to customize TF3D (add or remove Tabs) and change softkeys in it?

Schaps advanced config 3.3 that should be cooked into the rom bro. Go to settings, more settings, then see tf3d towards the bottom for tabs and at the top youll see something for the softkeys.
Thank's bro i run Advanceconfig but i didn't know about more settings.
I believe those softkey settings in Adv. Config are for the stock Today screen (what you get if both Titanium and TF3D are turned off, and you're using traditional Today plugins), not for the softkeys that appear in TF3D. But you can change the TF3D ones with these registry settings:

Non, adv config soft keys settings also works for tf3d, just not for chome. Though there is a simple way with chome with reg editor, go to hklm, software, microsoft, chome, then at the bottom is the reg for the left soft key. Now in that chome folder is also every panel that is active on chome and u can click any of those and change those left and right soft keys if you like. Only problem is i have no idea how to link them.
For example, the left soft key url is :MSCONTACTS. Now i have Icontacts installed to the phone, how do i find the Icontact's url to repleace the above? Id be golden if i could figure out how to find programs urls and how to link them in reg editor.

I don't have icontact installed to check it, but looking at the cab, it should probably be:
\Program Files\iContact\iContact.exe
Just added this to the first post:
- HOTFIX: If you have freezes typing in names for an SMS, install THIS (only affects the KB build)
The issue was supposed to be resolved a few versions back, but I just discovered I goofed on the registry key. This solves a conflict that exists between WM6.5's own name-lookup and the HTC keyboard's name-lookup.
Problems with 5-1-09 rom
Hey there. It's the noob again.
I flashed your latests rom yesterday and have noticed the following issues.
Just want to make sure it's not something I'm doing wrong or if this is a "feature" of the rom.
1. When I want to close an app, I click on the X in the top right hand corner. On previous ROMS, that would close the app, but now it just minimizes it.
2. Have you found a way to link soft keys for CHOME yet? Advance Configuration manger changes the keys, but after you reboot, it reverts back to default (contacts).
3. When I click on the toolbar for a notification (Examples: sprite backup report, New email, etc) it takes me to the Notification screen, I tap the notification and: sprite asks to review the report, I tap yes and it just takes me back to the Home screen. On Emails, I tap the “New Mail” and nothing happens until I tap “close” or “Dismiss All”
Thanks - Markmi300

1. This is a configuration choice (all my ROMs have been this way). You can change it by going to Start -- > Settings --> System -- Task Manager (note: there are two different control panel items called Task manager, you want the one with the gray icon). Select "button" and you can change this to the behavior you're used to.
2. I haven't been looking for a way to change this (I like the default just fine for this), but check out the threads in Development and Hacking for CHome/Titanium editors. There might be a way to do this under there; not sure.
3. That's the Tachi/Topaz-style notification screen. It's not perfect, in particular when not paired with TF3D2. Aware of the flaws, I made it uninstallable. It's listed as "HTC Tachi Notification Enhancement" under "Remove Programs." If you uninstall it and so a soft-reset, you'll be back to the standard WM-style notifications. I've flipped-flopped in the past on dropping it entirely.
Just cabbed this up, and will add it to the first post:
If you want the HTC-style large-button notifications (like on the stock ROM), after you uninstall the Tachi notifications, install this.

[APP][29-June-11] uTask v1.4 - softkeys enhancement for WM6.5.3

uTask v1.4
Author: ultrashot
Compatibility: only Windows Mobile 6.5.3. Any resolution is supported, but I haven't checked this program on any resolution except WVGA.
Functions:
1) Reassignment of virtual keys such as "Windows" and "X"
Supported actions:
Standard action
Launch *.exe
Minimize current program
Close current program
Show start menu
2) Task Manager icon on "Today" screen.
You can assign any task manager to this button. Later I will make my own interface.
3) Position Fix for old windows.
Attention! Some applications can work in unexpected way with positionfix enabled. They should be added into exceptions list!
Exception list supports masks. For example, if you enter "SPBWEATHER*", all window classes starting with "SPBWEATHER" will be excluded.
Also there is a confurator inside.
The most evident difference from any existing programs is IMMEDIATE reaction to new windows. No timers and unneeded calculations at all. uTask is very battery-friendly because of that.
Available translations: russian, english, german, french, italian (thanks to translators!)
Changes in v1.4 (release: 29.06.11, compilation date: 17.06.11):
-added classes list
-minor changes
Changes in v1.4 (26-Mar-11):
-fixed HVGA display detection.
Changes in v1.4:
-better today button behaviour.
-auto-resize of incorrect button images.
-bugfixes (bug with few HTCMenus versions, bug with EzInput on some devices)
-installer now shows error message if you try to install uTask on unsupported OS. Then, if system refuses to run after utask installation, try to start your phone two or three times. Perhaps, autodiagnostic system will disable utask. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't make a system backup.
Changes in v1.3:
-more accurate vibration
-increased timeout for clock hook
-ability to *.lnk in configurator
-little changes.
Changes in v1.2:
-some fixes for position fix
-configtool fixes
-stability improvement
-auto detector of problematic apps - seems like exception list is useless at the moment.
-taskbar clock hook - clock will have the same as home key function
-implemented internal size\position cache... should work better for all, especially HVGA devices.
Changes in v1.1:
-added immediate position fix.
-fixed all found bugs.
-added special menu for toolbars (hold finger on old-style toolbars and you'll get an action menu).
-added "Open start menu" action.
-SIP position fix (works for Swype, for example)
-support for two softkeys HDMini-like mode.
-settings were moved to new subkey called "Settings" - attention, chiefs!
Make a system backup before installing! I don't take any responsibility for any damage to phone or data on it.
If you didn't read this label, or you aren't able to read at all, that's your problem
About adding this program to custom roms:
If you feel that everything works as expected - feel free to use it in your custom ROM. If not - post a comment about bugs.
Is there any difference to the xTask? Because you are using the xTask icon.

uTask is a totally different program without any junk and without battery-eating timers.
Looks a very interesting application.
I'm going to test it with HD2 Artemis v.42.
Thanks!
Tested with Artemis HD2 v42.0
It is working flawlessly with every soft key assignment!!!
The only bug I found is the icon of it, it is cutted in the right edge.
jolas, give me your theme and I'll fix it.
overall the app works. For whatever task mgr you use, make sure you put it into the exceptions list (otherwise arkswitch worked once, then errored).
I cannot get the windows long press or the home long press to do anything on my hd2. It doesn't error, it vibrates, but doesn't execute the .exe selected, tried a few of them.
edit: it works for some .exe's and not for others. Overall a very nice 1.0 program.
Here is the theme I use and the softkeys images too
Thanks!
jolas, please, attach all images for further testing.
I see softkeys have not standard size, that's why they are drawn incorrectly.

Two HD2 owners (Korand and AndrewSh) tested it, one with SE X2 (eugene38 from 4pda.ru) and me with SE X1. No issues with long presses. Are you sure you saved settings (silly question, but who knows)?

It's not an HTC's Connection Manager, it's system service with no GUI.
You've just been wrong with the selected filename
You need to choose "CommManager.exe"

Problem solved
ultrashot, I figured out that the problem was originated by the button images I used in my theme (as you said, the size was incorrect).
I changed the size to the original's button size, and now everything is looking perfect!!!
Thank you for this great application!
Does it conflict with CHT2.0 Beta, man?

[APP][22.05.2011][(W)VGA]ActionScreen Landscape support v0.6[Developers please help]

Hello
I liked the idea of an ActionScreen ever since I met with this program for a first time (it was on a Sense 2.1 stock ROM so it was really handy). ActionScreen is a simple application which shows the user a screen with 12 (sometimes more) shortcuts which can start/toggle frequently used programs or functions.
But as I am a Rhodium owner, I always had problem with Landscape orientation. The Smaberg's ActionScreen was showing only 2 rows of icons in Landscape or wasn't showing at all. So with the encouragement by Jackos I started to develop my own application based very much on the original idea of the 12-icon ActionScreen from Smaberg. As I am definitely not a programmer I started to learn Basic4PPC for a starter. Then, after I discovered how many environment restrictions it gives I switched to C#.
What I present here is a version which has full Landscape support (the app will run without problems in Landscape and will change it's layout properly even if there will be an orientation change while program is shown).
* NEW * - The whole app has been rewritten from scratch. Also changed to the C# + NetCF. This has not solved all of my memory problems but allowed me to improve on many other fields. The details are in the change log in post #2.
* NEW 2* - I added a VGA version of my ActionScreen. Special thanks to xOverkill who encouraged me to start working on VGA and then provided a great help with testing on Raphael.
With this version you can easily customise each link function by changing command and parameter in:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Skrobel\ActionScreen\LinkXX]
where "XX" is a number of the icon starting with 00 to 11.
You can change the icons as well (all the graphic files are stored in program folder). From v0.5 you can also change the colors of the background (at the moment only solid colours are supported) and the label texts.
And last but not least you can change the text of the labels under each icon in the same place in registry. This can come in handy when you want to change the language for instance.
There is a small readme.txt file attached to this post where I put a brief description of the settings/configuration possiblilities.
DOWNLOADS ARE IN POST #2
Unfortunately some problems have been solve and some not:
- I have problems to effectively dispose the resources upon program minimization. The C# or NetCF uses Garbage Collector for all the disposed controls/images, so the app memory does not decrease when it's minimized (and is about 1300 kB). I can't find a way to do it better
- the WinCE and WinMo environment doesn't support a "minimize form" event. So I used a little trick to override native Windows.Forms.Hide with SW_MINIMIZE imported from coredll.dll. Buuut this doesnt really minimize the app, but only get the window behind all other windows, but in front of Titanium or TodayScreen. That's why I suggest using this app ONLY on Sense/TF3D enabled ROMs or otherwice you will se my app instead of the TodayScreen
- Because of the above my app is visible also during system startup until Sense/TF3D is fully loaded
Actually I found a solution for SW_MINIMIZE (it was easier than I thought). So for now my only concern is to make the app less memory consuming and possible yet faster.
Soooo, if any of you guys could help me to improve the app (especially the memory management) I can share all my current experience as well as the source code. HELP PLEASE
Enjoy! Any feedback is welcome. I will try to improve as soon as my programming knowledge raises Or of course when someone agrees to help me
# CHANGE LOG:
22.05.2011 - v0.6
+ Added version for VGA resolution
+ Minor bugfixes concerning exceptions and image handling.
+ Added a new setting "ShowOnHTCKeyboard" enabling ActionScreen to show up when the hardware keyboard is open (refer to readme for more information)
- still high memory usage when idle (currently approx. 1300 kB) - looking for a better way to dispose resources during minimize
10.05.2011 - v0.5
+ Rewritten from scratch once again to avoid unnecessary code
+ much faster to load/unload/appear/disappear
+ AppToDate support (thanks for the tips Jackos)
+ Both landscape modes support (right- and left-handed). The app will now follow the GUI
+ Added "splash screen" during first load for eye-friendliness before system boots completely
+ Added possibility to change background and text colors (although not very comfortable at the moment)
+ Changed the settings location in registry to a more proper place. Therefore you need to uninstall the previous version manually before installing v0.5
- still high memory usage when idle (currently approx. 1250 kB) - looking for a better way to dispose resources during minimize
13.02.2011 - v0.3 - quick bugfix version
+ Fixed SW_MINIMIZE so that app minimizes instead of going to back
+ support for non-Sense interfaces (Today Screen and Titanium tested)
+ the app starts almost unnoticeably during system startup
- still high memory usage when idle (currently approx. 1300 kB) - looking for a better way to dispose resources during minimize
13.02.2011 - v0.2
+ Whole application rewritten from scratch in C# + NET CF 3.5
+ commands, parameters, paths to the images are now stored in registry
look into: [HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen]
+ also item names are now stored in registry for easy language changing
+ the app is loaded in the memory during system startup and it's maximised upon calling
- high memory usage when idle (currently approx. 1300 kB) - looking for a better way to dispose resources during minimize
- uneffective SW_MINIMIZE method
- only TF3D/Sense 2.1/Sense 2.5 compatible - it's not compatible with Titanium/Today screen
- the app is visible during system startup until Sense/TF3D is fully loaded - the SW_MINIMIZE issue
17.11.2010 - v0.1 - initial release
- Written in Basic4PPC
+ Landscape support
- Due to several reasons the app doesn't stay in memory, it's launched on each call
- no localization
- no configurations possible, the commands are hardcoded into the application
# DOWNLOADS:
For technical reasons you have to uninstall previous ActionScreen versions manually before installing v0.5. Sorry for the inconvenience.
OK, I present three versions with one tiny difference:
- Skrobel ActionScreen v*.* - it's a standard version starting when holding the PowerButton for 3 secs.
- Skrobel ActionScreen v*.*_softkey - the app is linked additionally to the left homescreen softkey in Sense (2.1 and 2.5) as showed on the last screenshot
- Skrobel ActionScreen v*.*_softkey_only - especially for p50kombi here goes a third version with only the SoftKey link and no PowerButton action
- Skrobel_AS_Blue_Icons - a set of blue "Pressed" icons for the ActionScreen. Special thanks to MrRusch for a permission to use his work which I found here.
The files are attached to this post. Enjoy
Been waiting for this.
Think you can make a version that links to softkey only and not to power button?
that would be great...Thanks.

It's done
yeah.....

Looks great, will test it .. Thank you
Skrobel, congratulations on your release.
I will be glad to test your preliminary version, let's see what you did improve since the last version I tried.
Some suggestions and tips if I may:
- Do not use text files to store settings like links etc. Registry is a more convenient method IMHO.
- Try to ensure support for more then one language.
- Do something with the loading time (I know this probably requires programming language change), quick! Like I said in our last conversation about this program, hiding the window and showing it when it's needed should help greatly.
One important question: What about ROM cooking? Are chefs allowed to cook this program into their ROMs?
Regards,
Jackos
PS What about graphics? Maybe something more TF3D/Sense like?
Thanks, I appreciate your hints and help
According to the B4PPC support forum the loading time when the app is starting from "0" will not be better at all. I did everything I could to make the app lighter (use only one external library, don't use text labels, use only only one image for the whole form). But it didn't improve the loading time much though...
I already have a version which loads into memory at system startup but it has some annoying limitations connected with the programming environment.
I.e.:
The only way to actually load all the elements (images, controls) into memory is to show the app. So at startup I must actually show the app at least for 10 ms and then trigger the "ShowTodayScreen" procedure to hide it. And during system startup any graphics I'll try to show appear incomplete and for long time (until Sense shows).
Another problem is that there is no "minimize" procedure. Only the above mentioned ShowTodayScreen which always returns to Sense. If the user would run the ActionScreen in order to run a new window (such as new SMS) it's not a problem. But if you want to trigger the BT or WiFi, returning to HomeScreen every time is annoying.
Third problem is that even when the app runs in background it still takes over 600-700 kB which I consider as large for so light image it actually is. Furthermore I noticed strange behaviour when ActionScreen is not used for longer time. It takes more and more memory over time (a memory leak?) and "refreshes" itself when it's actually called.
Buuut in this situation the form shows within half a second.
Language and GUI is on the "to do" list as soon as I will handle the above problems. Actually changing the gui is very simple (there are no graphics merged in the exe, only external ones). But I'm totally not creative when it comes to graphics. That's why I asked for help in the first post.
Finally:
Everybody is welcome to use this program in their ROMs. Just drop me a line that you plan to do it and it would be nice if you referred to this place in your ROM thread but with such small app is absolutely not demanded.
@ Skrobel Any chance of my makin' an 18-button ver, a la wedge666's offering here? He, however, doesn't have landscape support. Your app's lack of buttons is the only thing stopping me from hoppin' on-board.
The problem is that the more controls on the form, the longer time the app needs to start.
So technicaly it's possible and relatively easy, but in the current app state I would like to handle all my problems first to be able to hold the program in the memory. Then addidg or moving controls will really be easy. Plus I will add the possibility to configure the icons and programs yourself so that everybody can customise it.
Hi Skrobel,
the landscape support is a very good idea. And since i use the HD2 and the TP2 i have missed this on my HD2. But the HD2 can handle landscape with a manila tweak well. Also in combination with the CHT Suite.
We, the CHTA beta team, can help you with a layout for CHT default and for the simplicity quicklinks. That's my personal favor style.

Am I to understand that you somehow forced the original ActionScreen to work in Landscape mode? Or at least to appear on full screen?

Thank you very much for the hint. I know these icons from Seem's ROM, but I didn't know these are his design. I like them too. And the way they behave when pressed.
oOadditional designs or to the beta team (that means you in this case )?
No, he just has a tweak in with he rotates the screen in HD2. His Action Screen doesn't support landscape ditto and that's the problem.

On the STOCK ROM it is working well without any issue. The latest Rom is: (please see my signature).

No i mean the team. We are around 10 guys here from XDA. And the most of them are known from other things .
Ach, we misunderstand ourselves
I meant that you where using another ActionScreen (probably from Smabergs) and it didn't work well in landscape.
Skrobel's version does work very well in both portrait and landscape.
