Application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) error? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

New to the forums and would love some help or feedback if anyone has had the same issue. Thanks in advance!
My DROID Eris is continually giving me the following error message:
The Application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I have one option, Force close, which gets me nowhere. I've read that it may have something to do with an App. The error message just keeps popping up, which gives me no option to get in and delete/remove any Apps
Help!

Make sure you have all updates applied to your phone. If not the phone may be bad. Hopefully you're still within your 30 days so you can just go to Verizon and get a new one.

As far as I know, all updates have been applied.
I am outside of 30 days. I am dropping by a Verizon store tonight to see what they say.
Stay tuned!

If anything try running the 1.17.605.1 RUU to give your phone a fresh start later.
**THIS WILL DELETE ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE!**Just FYI
Go here: pcdphones.com - Eris
Download the MR2 Upgrade and follow the instructions in the .zip file
Also pay attention to any apps you download after as they may be causing the problem.

You could also just hold volume down and send while powering on, then push the trackball to erase everything. That's what I did when my phone's launcher broke. THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR APPS SETTINGS AND CONTACTS!!!

what do you mean "send" What send button?

Send button = button w/ the green phone icon. You know, the one you push to answer/make a call?

[Q] Market will not download any apps

So after coming back from vanilla bean to stock using the MR1 upgrade I can't download anything from the market. It just all fails. I really need this up quickly any help would be great thanks!

It hangs for a few seconds then says "download unsuccessful"
To follow up I have cleared data in market through app management, factory reset, and disabling mobile data and renabling it.
One last update it's randomly kinda fixed... Some are downloading others aren't. At this point I am going to assume it is a server-side problem and get some sleep. Will update when I wake up.

Nope it isn't downloading anything. Any clues guys?
EDIT: I'm really losing my mind over this. I've searched all over the internet. I've tried clearing data on many apps, but cannot find the "google apps" I'm supposed to clear. If I download through my pc (Send it from the android market to my phone through pc interface) it works just fine...
Okay I've removed my sd card and lots more. I started a new google email as I heard that worked and it did, but everything that I've bought is gone... So obviously this has something to do with my current gmail address... I think... Any clues?

[Q] How to stop OTA update notification after update has been downloaded??

So a couple of days ago I updated to UEKME via PhantomHacker's StarBurst ROM, and right afterwards I noticed I continued to receive OTA update notifications from my Samsung account. So of course my first step was to change the settings in that account so that the device no longer looked for updates, however it appears that the update had already been downloaded or received. So then I started thinking, maybe if I could just find that downloaded update file, I could delete it and fix the issue that way. But after exhaustive searches, I have no idea where such a file could be. And of course all the while, I continue to get those damn annoying update popup notifications, with no way of stopping them.
Has anyone else either 1) encountered the same problem, or 2) know where the downloaded update file could be or what it might be named? Someone in another thread said it would be in the root of the SD card, but that I can confirm is not the case. And I performed a full system search of the term "update" and found no file, so that's why I'm wondering what exactly that file's name might actually be.
I'm looking for an answer to this as well. Thanks.

Cool, at least I'm not the only one having this problem!
Just an idea... since you use Starburst you don't need OTA anymore.
What happens if you remove the Samsung account, do you still get update notifications?
I have the exact same issue. The update downloaded before I flashed the custom ROM, so it keeps letting me know that an update has been downloaded and if it should be applied. Even if I hit do not remind me, it still pops up.
I think finding the update data and deleting it would solve this problem. Problem is, nobody seems to know where the update data is downloaded to. I've asked in a couple of different threads, but no dice so far.
Let's hope someone comes through with an answer

Ok well I'm giving this a shot, only I've found that one can't just delete the Samsung account in the more obvious fashion, that is by going to Settings-->Accounts and sync and simply deleting the account there (in fact it is not possible to do it this way, it simply won't let you as apparently "other programs" are using the account). Instead, using Titanium Backup I located the app called "Samsung account" and uninstalled that app. I have now done that, and (so far) I haven't gotten another update notification. But I'll give it more time and will report back with my findings over the coming hours/days.
Not sure 100%, but if you stop the Software Update service you should be able to remove the account. Or the radical way, you can remove all accounts with Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.
Ah crap, well after removing the account (i.e., uninstalling "Samsung account" app), about 2 hours later I awakened my tab only to find that damned update notification pop up, so obviously that didn't work at all. I guess we are now just stuck with waiting to see if someone can actually find the correct file that one must delete in order to stop this incredibly annoying and frustrating phenomenon from occurring. Damn.
One more little thing I'm now trying - while looking through things again in Titanium, I found another apk that I believe was called "Software updater" or something similar to that, so I've tried uninstalling that using Titanium. I have since rebooted and have the tab running, so as with earlier I'll keep checking in on it to see if the update notification comes back, or if by some miracle this fixes it. Fingers crossed, because after this I'm going to begin getting ready for a full wipe and build things back up from scratch.
UPDATE: things might be headed in the right direction after all. Before uninstalling this particular apk (the Software Updater), I used to be able to reproduce the typical "software update successfully received - do you want to install?" popup by going to Settings-->About tablet-->Software update-->Update, and when I'd click "Update" I'd get the notification...but now when I try it, it does absolutely nothing. So I have a feeling this might have done it. So again basically I have killed both the Samsung Account apk and the Software updater apk (uninstalled them, that is, using TB). If I don't get another popup by tomorrow morning, we can consider this a success....
Ya, I thought so. I still want to know where the updates are stored. There must be a file written somewhere and when that file is present the update is trigerred.

Agreed, you're right that has got to be the case, but where is the million dollar question. But so far so good at my end with the removal of the Software Updater app
FIXED
I think I can now confirm that the problem is fixed. The key is apparently uninstalling the "Software Updater" app using Titanium Backup. I also removed the "Samsung Account" app in the same way, but the Updater program seemed to be the real key (but I would still remove the Account app since obviously you don't need it). Good luck!

Sprint visual voicemail app(svvm) on CM7

Ive heard of people bringing the stock voicemail app from their Evos and stuff over to roms, and followed a few tutorials for CM7 and none of them work for my photon on CM7. It basically consists of making a Titanium backup from a stock rom of the voicemail app then installing an apk provided on whatever rom your running and restoring the data via Titanium.. however this doesnt work for me. The apk installs and i restore data fine but when i send myself a message all i ever get is the text message announcement of it and it never appears within the voicemail app, like it should, and used to, and the text message provides a phone number to call to listen to the message. Has anyone been able to get this to work on Photon? If so can you provide the .apk you used and specific instructions of what you did?
I used titanium to back it up from stock and used titanium to restore app&data. then I used thus trick to get it going. try sending this compose to:
[email protected]
hit record let it go for 12-16 seconds
click send. you should get a message saying provisioned successful sometimes you have to disable forwarding I think its
*38 enter and call with dialer will hear some beeps.. might try the *38 then the provisioning hope it helped
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I called the *38 and it beeped for a while, then disconnected after 12 seconds. The VM app is already trying to send that same message you said, to the [email protected], but its stuck in the undelivered section and wont send. When i tell TI Backup to restore app+data it tries to install, and fails upon trying to install the actual app(i read you have to install via an apk, one i downloaded from a post in evo section) but it restores data fine.
might work might not but here is a vvm app you can try
heres a link might help you also
http://thetechtemple.com/2011/06/fix-your-sprint-visual-voicemail-on-your-rooted-device/
also can try this one its where i got the vvm zip from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774172
gl hope ya get it working might try uninstalling it entirely then wiping any data/info/cache it has left on your phone reboot then try the *38 reinstall it then try the activate message again
gl man
ill try and figure out how to pull mine and post it just a little dunk and a little tired atm to mess with it edit..... went ahead and pulled the apk zipped it and posted it is the same one im using.
Wow, THANK YOU! I unzipped and installed the com.coremobility.app.vnotes-1.apk.zip and sure enough it automatically activated and is up and working fine. I can't thank you enough, you made my life tremendously easier.

Liquid Gingerbread 3.1, flash issues, market issues..

Firstly, I want to say that the ROM is fantastic, I'm loving it!
Recently Im coming into issues, though. Any websi te with flash. Its saying I need flash, and when I go to the market to update flash, it says its not compatible with my phone.. in fact. A lot of apps on the market are saying not compatible with my phone now.. Any ideas? Thanks
Bump... Need a fix please =/
Samething is happening with mine too.

Bump..... Please help?
First, get titanium backup. Completely uninstall flash via TB, then reboot. Download flash from the market and it should work fine.
If after that you end up with flash audio but no sound, then you need to get an app called " root explorer " and edit a system file to fix it. I can't remember off the top of my head which file and where but that issue was discussed in the liquid 3.0 thread, maybe 3.1, not too sure now.
Signature.
I found the reason apps are saying "not compatible" with your device. Apparently my google profile has my phone and two other randomly named devices on it... Anyone know how to get rid of the useless ones? I cannot for the life of me find where to delete these device profiles...

I haven't been able to delete them, but you can hide them from device lists in the Market and they won't give you that problem
on the webpage, click on the settings wheel in the top left corner --> my market account --> settings tab, click edit on any devices you don't use --> hidden in menus (under visibility), and make sure you hit update
I'm trying that, but this is absolutely ridiculous. There are three devices listed, and when I click to hide two of then, only one is hidden and the other two show, no matter what....
Turns out that this is a known issue to google, they're working on a fix. Hopefully soon, and hopefully the cause (and fix) behind all this.

Constantly Crashing

I have an issue that I cannot pinpoint the cause of figure out a solution to. Maybe someone here can help.
My Sprint G3 is always crashing and rebooting the launcher (phone doesn't turn off, just closes evwrything). I'd be in the middle of any app and it will randomly close every single app. The running apps page always displays after every crash. It's as if too much ram is being used, but it will happen even after a fresh phone restart and launching something simple like WhatsApp.
My phone is rooted via the Stump one click method. I don't have any type of rooted mods enabled, only Adfree. I use Nova launcher (paid & updated).
Is there some sort of event viewer that will log the activity of the phone so I probably someone here can see what might be causing the phone to crash? I'm tempted to Unroot and restore back to stock... But if I can avoid that, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If you're running ART that could cause that. Go back to dalvik and see if that cures it.

Maybe it's Adfree then. There's a special version that some people are using. It's in it forum somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.
In the meantime, uninstall it and see if it goes away.

Thanks. I've reverted my adfree hosts file and uninstalled it. But I think the issue persists. If I try to use any app that clears cache, specifically Clean Master, when it's doing the scan of apps it'll crash midway through the scan. If I go to system settings > Apps & wait for all the downloaded apps to load the details, it'll crash there too.
This is the oddest thing.
Edit:
This visual may help. It's a video of me running Clean Master & seeing how it just crashes. I can replicate this issue every time like this, but the crashes are random when using other apps.

Ok, so I began uninstalling some apps that I thought may have been the issue... Which they weren't as the crashing still continues. I decided to reboot under safe mode and the problem occurs there too.
I honestly cannot recall if this began before or after rooting with stump. I may have to Unroot & factory restore. =/

I'm at a loss... The 2 things I mentioned can be the culprits, but not for you I guess. Some other ideas?
Did you uninstall Stump after getting root?
Have you froze or uninstalled any system apps/ priv-apps?
It might even be Nova is having issues.
That's all I got.

Thank you for your help. Nova was one of the apps I removed. I did remove the stump app after rooting & did not freeze/remove any system critical apps/files. I'm also at a loss.
I would try a restore to stock as the final option. If that doesn't fix it then I dunno man.

Tried to unroot but the phone doesn't move past the "Firmware Update. Do not unplug the phone..." screen after holding Volume Up & plugging into the computer. I installed the drivers before hand. But the "CDC Serial" doesn't update. I attempted to manually update the driver by browsing for the folder, but no go.
I may end up having to go to Sprint and exchange the phone for another one.

TL;DR version = Yes, I did fix it. Factory restore did the trick.
A few days after my last post the phone wasn't as bad as the video. It would still crash and reset but mainly after heavy app usage or when trying to clear app cache using any app like Clean Master.
Once my storage reached about 40% used and I couldn't clear the cache, I began to get constant Play Store error messages. No apps would update. I think it was error 483 or something close to hat number.
Since I couldn't flash back to stock because the drivers wouldn't install, I gave up and tried a factory reset. I nearly sh-t myself bc once I confirmed the restore, the phone didn't want to automatically reset per the instructions. I pressed the button multiple times and nothing. I pulled the battery and when I turned it back on, I got the initial screen with the "powered by android" and then black. It did not wanna do anything. Pulled battery again, same outcome. It left it for maybe 10min and still nothing.
I was ready to go back to sprint and see if I could exchange the phone. While researching the closest store, the phone beeped and the initial android setup screen appeared. This was about 25min of waiting on a black screen.
The phone is now back to working order and it's still rooted. There must have been a corrupt file that was erased/restored once the g3 decided to behave.

Congrats!
My G3 is crashing in the similar manner as the video you uploaded.
Except that it only happens when I'm in office connected to office wifi with almost no cellular reception.
On top of that, as far as I could tell... only two apps are causing the launcher to crash... the game Clash of Clans and LINE.
Very very strange....
