Droid Eris Faster.. - Droid Eris General

Hey I was Wondering If anyone out there could give me a few good pointers as to how I can make my Droid Eris faster...

Task manager... end apps you aren't using at the moment.

A task manager will not make much difference. Try searching for why you don't need one first before you go that route.

I agree. I used an app manager when I first got my phone but someone pointed me to an article about why you shouldn't use one. Now that I don't my phone is more stable.

Sell it and buy an Incredible when they come out next month.
Might just go that route myself if it's not stupid expensive.

It most likely will be.
The thing that worries me about the Incredible is the battery. It uses the same battery thats in the Eris...

Yes, but there are higher capacity batteries available. I've also heard they're going to underclock the processor, most likely for increased battery life. Don't know why they don't just put in a higher capacity battery. It's already got that big funky cover on the back.

How to help battery life dramatically!!!

I found this out by doing some research and have tested it and it seems to work really well actually. I don't remember where I read this but there is a system process that runs a lot of cpu cycles after the phone has been charging and sucks down battery but if u reboot your phone after taking it off the charger or usb the process doesn't run and my battery has lasted waaaaay longer. I currently use Tasker to make my phone do this automatically, so as soon as I unplug from the charger my phone reboots. Try it out and see what u think! It works great for me! I just wish there was a more elegant way of fixing the issue with this rouge process.
Just in case you're wondering, I'm running eclipse with speedy v4 scripts.

Yeah it's pretty crazy how it does that. I saw this a while ago but never believed it really until recently, my phone has been more ridiculous than usual after charging, reboot solves it all for me.
No bubble to burst, I was trying to be helpful. Thanks for adding that at the end if your comment though, very helpful.....
I have not heard this of this either. I may have overlooked it.

As he said, it's pretty new but from what I can tell so far it seems about the same as the stock BNT. It's definitely not worse, possibly a little better. This is all based on perspective but if you're worried it's a battery hog that's definitely not the case.

After installing nearly all programms and with same setup the standby mA are around the double on CM7 (60-80mA B&N / 140-180mA CM7). But this will become better on the next releases i think.

Is that with the wireless set to "never sleep"?
I've been running since around the time the ROM was released and haven't noticed any degradation in battery life. That must be taken with a grain of salt, however, since the ROM hasn't been out very long.
@sonscheiss What are you using to calculate the mA? Are you modifying the algorithm in current widget?

Antutu Benchmark

14,520 on Antutu.
Very impressive for a stock device! I guess this would certainly explain why this phone is so snappy! Without question, this is the smoothest phone I have ever owned. On the downside, I'm sure this is also why the battery life leaves a lot to be desired.
Now I'll just anxiously await the ROMs that can help save my battery. Fingers crossed...

Nice bro.
Once they release the Unlock, then we'll be able to root and get that score higher just by deleting all of that Verizon and Amazon crap...
It's extremely unneeded, but I want to see this beast get overclocked to see how high we can get these benchmarks to go.

I'm using a Nextel i830. I must have posted in the wrong forum... Good catch.
C'mon, the device I'm using is clearly listed in the signature you copied to your own reply. That being said, you mention that the 'battery is great' on your DNA. Would you mind elaborating on how you use it? I recognize that you are a developer, and if you are actually trying to help, I'm very curious what the differences are. Maybe I have a faulty device??
- Do you keep wifi on all day?
- Same for bluetooth?
- What about data usage? 4G, etc?
- Is GPS on or off?
- Do you have any apps set to sync automatically?
- Made many phone calls?
- Watched any movies?
- Surfed the net?
Etc...
Yesterday at around 2PM (after posting the benchmark), I had to run to Comcast to swap out my modem. When I saw the line, I thought I was at the DMV. The sign said 'Now serving #24'; I had just pulled # 81. At that time, my phone had been off the charger for approximately 6 hours. I looked at my phone and had 39% battery left, so I figured what the heck, I'll watch some video and let time pass. I use a Bose BT2 headset which is typically intended for phone calls, but it works very nicely for media also, so I used it while I watched The Office on the Xfinity app. About halfway through the 3rd episode (approximately 55 minutes), the phone died completely. Barely 7 hours of use on a fully charged battery. Oh, how a replaceable battery would have come in handy during the last half hour of my wait.
When the phone is on, I absolutely LOVE IT, though I am quickly losing faith in this phone's ability to satisfy my wants and desires in an electronic device. I think I may return to the RAZR Maxx, though I would really miss having Sense... I'll give it another week; I must be missing something, right?? I sure hope so. :fingers-crossed:

[Q] What's up with my battery?

I've heard varying reports of how long peoples' batteries last, anywhere from 9 hours to 3 days. But what seems to be the common theme is that if you use your phone pretty frequently, you'll get maybe 10 hrs, but if you use the phone sporadically and not for long periods of time, you can expect the phone to last through the day and even maybe the next. But with mine I've found that the battery on average will last me maybe 10 hours, but that's with slight to almost no use. From what people have said online, the screen is what sucks up battery, but when I check with GSam Battery Monitor, my screen never seems to break 30% of my battery use. Apps are what usually take up ~45% of my battery. What's up with this? I don't wanna have to buy that stupid Mugen case, because it apparently sucks, but there are literally no other options to extend my battery... any advice? Will post screenshots. Thanks!
GSam screenshots
Also, as you can see, the individual app %'s don't add up to the huge number that Apps is taking up... is that related/significant?

It looks normal to me. Usually the people that are saying they get good battery life are the ones that are on a custom Rom and a custom kernel. From my findings the stock Rom especially with the net updates battery life seems to be worse with each update. One really good combination I have run that yields amazing battery life is CM11 and crpalmers kernel. That combination will give amazing battery life. It also depends on what you use your phone for. Judging by your screen shots thing look pretty normal. I would try giving battery guru a go in the market of you want to get some more juice. Let it learn your habits and it will help with you battery life.
You also have to remember as the device ages and you recharge the battery you can't expect it to remain fantastic like the first day you got it. Like anything else they wear down over time and can only go through so many charging cycles.
Or it may just be your battery starting to go bad. Its hard to pin point what may be wrong. It may be as simple as a rogue app. Try some of the suggestions I mentioned above and post back to let us know how your doing. If your not rubbing a custom Rom I recommend switching to one. They are packed with features and the battery life is generally better.
Anyways good luck. Post back if you have any more questions.

100% agree. Especially with the updates leading to worse battery life.
I recently switched to the DNA from an S4. Unlocked and S off'd. Flashed 4.4.2 Rom and immediately noticed how awful battery was in comparison to my Samsung. I actually flashed an older jellybean Rom with Sense 4+ and now I'm experiencing battery life as good as my S4, even though the S4 has a larger battery and newer hardware.

Thanks for the info guys i'll keep that stuff in mind. I've tried several times to S-Off and flash a custom ROM but every time I try, firewater or rumrunner or whatever im using that time always says 'connection failed.' I've been unable to find any fix for why it's failing, so i've kind of given up. Any chance you guys can link to any super simple instructions?
Like I honestly don't understand temproot and those things. thanks!

In general there is a thread titled "am I too late to root" where I tried to explain the process to another poster the best I can.
couldn't hurt to give it a read. Maybe it will help you.

I really don't know how to explain it any better than I did in that thread. On page 2, I wrote a complete step by step..the file goes into your sdk folder and then you run the command while in fast boot..I posted links and all in that thread. I don't know how to help further.

Bigger Battery

Im looking for a bigger battery to fit the G3. Anyone been able too source one that isn't bootleg? If not, anyone been able to source a replacement battery and battery charger cheap? Id prefer the bigger battery if there is one
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=221542499372&alt=web. I saw this. Who knows if it's legit.
Yeah I've seen them. Hoping someone here can tell me if its last longer then the stock battery. I don't care if it fails after 4-6mths st that price. I'll just cop another if it sctualy HAS longer OST
Don't think that there is any 3850mAh with same size as the original 3000, sounds like spoof.

Maybe true, if so does anyone have a way of sourcing a second battery?
I read some reviews of their other batteries and most said it felt like the stock battery. Oh well. No more or less screen or runtime. Why don't they just advertise that.

I'm hoping once we get custom roms we will start to see battery improvement. Sad but this is the longest I've run stock and it's only been a few weeks. Still love the phone though.
Yeh love the phone not the battery though. Custom roms? Sorry im new to android, wats that?
