My Contact Card - Droid Eris General

Is there a way to merge the My Contact Card (under People) with an existing contact?
For instance, I have a contact setup for myself via Google Contacts, and it syncs and work just how I would expect, but I want to be able to merge it with the My Contact Card information, so that if/when I make changes they are pushed down and I don't have to worry about updating them twice.
Actually, it would probably be better if I could just remove the My Contact Card altogether.
Sorry if this question has been posted before--I tried to search but nothing happened!!

Phone contacts to google account?

Hi
I got my hero last week and i'm loving it at the moment. I want to back up all my contacts to my google account to make them easy to manage and for back up reasons. For some reason though when the phone syncs it doesn't load my existing contacts(carried onto my hero by sim from my old diamond) into my google contacts?
If I create a new contact on either phone or pc it updates the other accordingly but i just cant get my existing contacts to my google contacts.
I can see the ones that update are labeled as google contacts so i'm guessing i have to label my exisisting ones somehow???
Someone please help as i dont want to have to create all my contacts again
Thanks in advance
gaz
Anyone?.........Please!!!!

I've been looking at this too. One of the groups from my phone has synced to Gmail, but no contacts. Still looking....

Ok, there is a piece of software on the market which moves contacts from "Phone" to "Google". I'm just googleing to see what it is as I can't remember.
Not sure how effective it is, haven't tried it as I've always synced my contacts to google even on WinMo.
Actually, have you tried doing it that way 1st? Set your Diamond to have an ActiveSync with google (m.google.com) and use your google user id and password. This will send all the contacts from your phone to google. Then sync your Hero.
I can't find the program at the minute (10 minutes of looking) but I'm sure its in this Hero forum somewhere about it. Will have another look in a bit

Restoring merged contacts after flashing

Guys,
I've merged a lot of contacts with their facebook, twitter, yahoo and google accounts on my phone. After flashing a new ROM, when I import the contacts from the .vcf backup file, the merged contacts are now showing up as unjoined and I need to merge them again. It is a painful process and I would be thankful if anybody can provide a solution to backup/restore the contacts exactly as they are, so that I can monkey around with my device without worry
Thanks

Anybody out there have a solution? Or am I missing anything?
Sorry for quoting myself though.
I have not faced with this issue as I keep them separate and not merge into device address book. Better & safe to keep them separate probably, as they can be added independently outside the context of your device address book.
i need a solution too....too cumbersome to merge again and again....specially when you don't have something like mass merging

I want to merge the contacts because we can have their profile images as the contact image and we can have all their contact addresses under a single contact, instead of keeping them separate. Because everybody has a google, facebook, yahoo account and hence I've 4 contacts for a single person.
A much needed solution..anyone any trick any app???

APP for managing contacts

Im having issues trying to clean up my contacts Ive got many doubles and I want to clean up my phone and SIM contacts its Ive tried before to delete them but they never seem to delete from my contacts.
EDIT: NVM fixed it
For those of us that might be having the same problem, would you mind enlightening us on how you fixed it?
Do it from a PC. Yes it is painful but it only has to be done once. I do not recommend using SIM contacts for a very simple reason. Many people today have email and phones plus IM etc datafilled with their contacts. Only phone numbers are supported on the SIM and even that has a limit of 1 number per contact. so if you have a contact with 4 phone numbers, that will be 4 contacts on your SIM and in your device when you import them.
I know this is the way it worked for GSM long ago and I don't think this has changed.
Best workaround is sync to Google. If you want a local copy after cleaning things up on a PC, export you contacts to your external SD card...
I cleared the data from contacts and contact storage from manage applications and then I synced my google contacts
There is app to delete duplicate contacts ..sorry I forgot the name...but its very effective...and also just like others stated always use google to sysnc contacts...this way when getting new phones...its easier and you wont have duplicates...

[Q] My Contact Question

I know this is a super noob question. But how do I edit my profile information for my own contact? I go into people and see my profile, I select it, select edit my contact card, but I can't edit some of the information. I have a home and work number that I can't change, the home is fine, but my work number has changed, and there is a home and work email, again, home is fine, but work has changed. When I give my contact out to people through NFC they have to select not to save those work contacts. I don't have the option in there to edit it so I thought it was something on Google+ or Google Contacts that I still had in there. I checked those and can't find anything, I can't delete any of that information either. I can add more numbers/emails but can't change what is there. Does anyone know where Google might have my information so that I can change that and have a proper contact card? It isn't a big deal but it is just driving me crazy that I can't figure out how to fix it so I figured I'd turn to the Internet for some advice.
I fixed it but still have no idea where that data came from. Just so that if anyone else has that problem I had to remove my Google account from the phone and then just load it up again and it was empty that time. I guess it could have been old data from G+ that somehow managed to get onto my phone, and no matter how many times I would try to sync with the new data it wouldn't delete the old data. I don't think that I had that contact info in when I got my phone though so I don't know.
As far I know My contact information is populated from google plus. As soon as google plus contacts sync your my contact information should be populated.

Contacts disappeared

This kind of got lost in the midst of bigger stuff in the other thread so I figured I'd try one specifically for it, since it's my main issue.
My contacts were saved to my device (or SIM maybe?), not my google account. I know, bad idea, but it was unintentional and it's done. Due to another issue I had to remove and re-add my google account to my phone. When I did this, all of my contacts disappeared. Nothing shows up in my contacts app and when I get a call from someone that I had as a contact I only see their number, not their name/contact info.
I don't know what the relation is between my contacts that were stored on my device and my google account being temporarily removed from my phone, but I don't think those contacts are actually deleted. If I go into the app manager I see something there called "contacts storage" that is 9.2mb in size. I'm guessing this still has the contact's info? Is there any way to retrieve this and/or get them to show up again?
You can change which storage you want to use for contacts. While in contacts hit the menu button.. From there it's relatively easy..
When you get your contacts to didplay it's worth merging with google and filter the storage to google only.

None of these work for me. If I change the contacts to display to "device" it shows only the built-in AT&T contacts (view your bill, etc). If I choose SIM card it displays nothing.
Same deal with import. Shows nothing found.
If you have an American model of the s3 then you are in the wrong forum, this is for the i9300 only.
