iGo8 for Android - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
Does anyone have any info on whether/when iGo8 might be available for Android devices?
I currently use iGo on my WM6.1 Touch HD and having tried iGo, TomTom Nav7, and Copilot 7 I can say it beats TT and CP hands down but for the lack of Traffic support in the UK. iGo for Android is mentioned on their website but the links dry up without pointing to any commercial software.
Right now it seems that for comprehensive satnav on Android Copilot have it all their own way.

Try this link for iGo myway. I am using it currently
http://www.igomyway.com/android/en/

Hi
Thanks for the reply - I did hit that page but still no mention of commercially available software. However I did do some digging through the FAQs using Google Translate and found that IGo My way for Android is only currently available on the Samsung Galaxy Spica.
There is no mention of it being put on general release. I think that is exceptionally short sighted of Navngo as they are giving a free run to Copilot and Sygic, but then they also only do Traffic via free TMC too which doesn't help us smartphone users in the UK who can't get TMC on our smartphones and even if we could TMC here is encrypted/subscription only so only used by OEM car manufacturers and TomTom.

i am useing it on my HTC Hero GSM

Yup, using it on the HTC Dream, although it's rather laggy so I'm going to try Navigon for a while.

Um, so can anyone give a source for this app?

it is there
called MotoNav

HI
i have igo my way (8.4.2) on my HTC Desire and i don't have POI's for france!?!? if anyone have them, please give me PM.
thanks!

Hi
Was also looking for iGo8 for my Galaxy i9000 S. Strange I can't find it. What's Sygic like? Any advice on a Android GPS. I find the Gmaps a bit too loosely put together and frustrating at times.
Thanks

i Used iGo on x10 mini pro and i think it's the best. sygic is slow, copilot not so precise

Igo stopped supporting android MotoNav is for devices with clscreens with higher res and my way is for lower. I can upload my way(lastest version) but later.

best gps combo for xda2s

I have been looking through the forum to determine the best combination of receiver + software as a gps solution. Is there a poll outlining the relative merits / demerits for the xda2s?
From reading threads, i feel alot of people use TT5 with a BT338 receiver. Would this be a reasonable solution?
Kind regards
I have BT-338. It work just fine with my tek 9090.
I use the BT-338 with CoPilot Live 5 and it works great on my SX66.
CoPilot Live 6 is too buggy, IMO.
I have not tried Tom Tom 5. But I could not install iGuidance 2.1.2 (I gave up after 3 attempts), TeleType World Navigator has huge breadth but not much depth in its features, and OnCourse Navigator 5 has user interface design problems, poor rerouting (it gets stuck on one path), and it requires manually starting the bluetooth connection each time.
Note: These recommendations might only apply in the USA.
tt5 & bt 77
Hi, my xda2s worked fine with TT5 and a BT77 bluetooth GPS, although the device configuration arrangement was a bit strange. However, that was on wm2003. I can't get any GSM functionality on wm2005 so can't comment on satnav and gps combinations with wm2005.
You will need to check with Tom Tom what support there is currently for Ireland. On the release of TTN5 there was limited support for the North & NO support for Eire. The latest downloadable maps suggest "major roads" of Eire are now supported but these maps are an additional purchase over & above TTN5.
I think i am the only BA user here with one, but i like my SD-501 (SDIO) GPS. its a great little unit, and gets great reception (not to mention better battery life compared to constant BT use!).
Still deciding on software though..

GPS

Is anyone using a Bluetooth GPS with their 8525? I'm looking to purchase one but would like some input first. So many choices out there... Thx!
welcome to the forums..
i do.. im using a BT-Q818.. its superb. does the job well plus its supposed to run 32 hours, and can pick up 32 satellite signals..
one good thing to think of before getting a gps receiver would be battery replacement possibilities..
good place to look for gps receivers and software
Garmin GPS10 here. Fully waterproof, WAAS capable, magnetic attachment to car. Stores multiple parings. Runs around 12 hours on a charge. $80ish for OEM package (sensor only). This thing is awsome. I was getting differential fixes to within 1 meter while hiking up in N. MI last week. I was running also maptech's pocket navigator on my TyTN with the sensor duct-taped to my backpack. Laptop was in the truck with Terrain Navigator counterpart stored there. Both devices could share the sensor & also swap track data.
I'm using a GlobalSat BT-359 bluetooth gps receiver and iGuidance map software on my 8525. I've had no trouble with any of it. Got everything from Semsons Inc website as a bundle.

you dont have any troubles with your iG4? their's this stuttering issue that i have been experiencing.. what interests me is the ROM you are using.. i will prolly change to what you have as soon as i get too many porblems with the current one that i am using..
Bapski--- I'm still using iGuidance 3. My version 4 should be arriving soon. I'm anxious to see how it runs on VP3G's 3.0 ROM. Everything else I use runs very well on it. I'm still a noob at all this but if you have questions, I'll sure try to be of some help.

GPSRecorder settings found in HTC Touch Dual

Guys,
I have found another settings
Go to Program File -> DopodScv, you can find the "GPSRecorder.exe" file
The program runs under Traditional Chinese character, you may try it out
surely this only works if you have a dopod touch dual?
as your going into dopod scv
Yeah, have it but can't use . Is this another sign that HTC dual has GPS?
It seems like HTC has disabled Wifi, GPS & FM Radio on Touch Dual
Anyway, i'm selling my Touch Dual within these few days... Good luck to everyone
I wish that my finding helps you guys in investigating the Touch Dual, especially the Wifi & GPS
GPS: Why do we need it IN the dual - I much prefer the battery life dividends that my Bluenext GPS receiver brings me. 25+ hrs (quoted) continuous... if it was in the Touch surely it'd be a real battery drain?
WiFi is different though. I respect it's also a battery drain, but I wouldn't have minded that for the occasional use. There's no bluetooth wifi adaptors out there?
Just my take

*cough* Spectec MicroSD WiFi Adapter any use when it comes out??
Perfect, finally the MicroSD version. Problem is that there is no extra space left. I now use a 2Gb card for music and TomTom maps...
Interesting, but wonder how well that would work without an antenna...
As any way Itis not important!!?
NO GPS ANTENNA!!! We know how to Activate and Test GPS in a Qualcomm Chipset!!! NO ANTENNA!!!!

and also no tranceiver chip
Hi there Guys i know you have all stressed that there is no antenna for the GPS in the touch dual but i would just like to bring to attention one note, in the uk T-mobile happen to offer the touch dual , with a preinstalled navigation software called Copilot live7 which usess the intetrnal GPS, i have also visited the copilot website and they have confirmed compatability with HTC touch dual. so so so anyone got anything to that?
It's true, sort of
Built-in sat nav
With the CoPilot® version of the T-Mobile Touch Plus, you get live satellite navigation with on-screen and audible turn-by-turn directions. CoPilot is powerful satellite navigation software for your mobile which performs just as well as a dedicated or in-dash navigation system. When your mobile has sat nav you save on two counts - you won't have to pay for a separate device plus you'll save yourself from ever getting lost again.

I recon they will ship it with a GPS module, just like they did with the Wizard.

(Q) Offline GPS software

Hi everyone, I spent lot of time trying to find a good GPS software that has a world wide coverage or as in my case do I look for some software that has China mainland coverage.
I been trying the (Sygic) Aura (which worked great on Xperia x10 mini but lack the China mainland coverage), CoPilot (also good, but also lack the China map) on my old Symbian phone, did I have Garmin XT mobile with both European map and China mainland. But for my Xperia x10 mini, does it seem impossible to find a working GPS software that has china mainland maps.
Update 14th november
I have now also tried iGO but found no China map.
Tried Navigon also lack China map.
Im now trying Route66 version 10.1.39745.39738 and I found a China map from 2009 808mb, I will try it but the problem with Route 66 is that it needs subscription for the use of walking & driving. And I dont want to pay for a software I dont know is good or not on my Xperia x10 mini.
I found a chinese GPS software called Careland, but it seems to lack English menu.
So my search goes on....
Best regards
Bumbi
Theres an Igo that works well on my X10 mini pro
ANd i think there are china maps for that.

What version of Igo?
Am using IGot.
Working well
I looked at iGO but it seems it has no China mainland, only Taiwan and Hong Kong. And that has Sygic Aura also. So I will continue to search.
Best regards
Bumbi
I find Navigon works really well.. not sure if it has China Maps (I have Europe maps installed) but its completely offline uses no Data, and navigation works well even on the mini screen.
Thanks for the tips, and I tried Navigon also. But same problem there...it has no China mainland map Thanks for the tips anyway
Try Navit or Navdroyd. I'm using both!
I know you mean to navigate by car or whatever. But if somebody wants a good offline GPS app for offline maps to hiking, biking, etc. I recommend ORUXMAPS, it's simply the best.
So from where we cant download Navigon and Igo for Europe ??
If you dont need navigation, Mapdroid might be a good choise. Maps can be downloaded - Mapquality and details varies a lot (they are based on OSM), but there are worldwide maps available and they dont need much space since they are compiled as vector graphics.
Wow, now have I lots of GPS software to try I will get back if I find anyone that has world wide coverage and is fully working on Xperia x10 mini.

[Q] install android on a tomtom gps unit?

is there a way to install the android os on a tomtom gps unit? if so, exactly how do you do it? i know how to use odin if that can be used. i have an old tomtom one xl that i would really like to load android on , but just don't know how to do so.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Dedicated GPS units usually have pretty low specs since they don't really need to run anything but the GPS software. The One XL has a 266mhz processor and 32MB of RAM, way too low to even consider Android.
You are better off getting a cheap Android device with a GPS if you want an Android based GPS.
what abbout car units
Hello
I have a laguna 3 whith navigation carminat. Would that be posdible to have android on it?

I doubt that the proper drivers exist for the hardware in those things. Even within the general Linux community, I can't see the demand for such a project being very high. I think you'd have to do a ton of searching and compiling from source, even then, as mentioned, many dedicated GPS units just aren't very powerful.
That said, I'd bet there are some random Chinese dedicated GPS units running Android or something.

I would think it would work. The two GPS units I bought in Hungary have Windows Mobile loaded on them. If it can take Windows mobile wouldn't it support Android too? I'm no expert on that so I'm relying on the answer too.
Why?
