Will the X10 Camera abilities transfer to a rooted phone? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If it will, then I'm buying one. SE really only has it's cybershot tech thats valuable in this phone. But I figure that rooting it will probably loose all that excellent photo-capture software, right? Before my G1, I had the SE k800i Cybershot phone that had amazing image capture abilities.

Wrong.
Why should it?

Figured that was so proprietary that the source files wouldn't be editable? because its so hardware-specific?
If I can keep hacking away at the X10 like I do with my G1 and get better camera stuff, and a snapdragon processor, then I'm in.
The only thing that would hold me back is the talk of Samsung's new phone having a processor that may be 3x as fast as snapdragon.

The Hummingbird chip in the new Samsung Galaxy

3x gpu power. not cpu power
it all boils down to triangles. i myself prefer polygons.

The rooting has nothing to do with those features. They will be preserved. Chill.

If somebody needs the systemdump of a X10, PM me!
And what exactly can you guys do with a systemdump?

What should you expect from SE phones

According to what I have been reading in this forum and X10-related sites, people expect SE to pack the latest technology into their flagship phones. I used to think of it this way too but unfortunately after having the X1 and X10 the experience was disappointing Then I questioned myself whats the true reason I bought them
The look
Yeap any SE phones that you can think of right now, their design is always outstanding. This is the image the company is trying to create to the public; to win the beauty award among competitors in market. If you want to buy a slick-looking phones your best bet is SE, they're damn good at it. People like good looking stuff that is why their phones still sell. But as a practical person you know looks aren't everything. SE's target market are probably the youngsters, who change their phones more frequent than other age ranges.
In a stereotypically point of view, SE phones are blondes.
So if SE has never had the intention to create a cutting-edge phone, its not their fault. If you're an X10 user who are currently not happy with how SE isn't doing a good job on the hardware/software department and keep up with the updates etc, blame yourself for not being able to get passed the look of the phone.
After seeing xperia phones' performance, it has become pretty clear to me that SE phones are not the choice for people who like to keep up with the latest technology and expect high performance from their phones. And SE are also not the best listener who will change their plan to meet our demands, because that is not the company's goal. As long as SE are still selling their phones it's very unlikely that they will repositioning themselves on the market.
Personally SE phones are now out of my list. They simply aren't future-proof enough and eol too quickly.
the new xperia Arc is pretty good
thumbs up.
Since part of it is Sony, I expect a good multimedia player. In fact, this is why I chose her instead of Google Nexus One.
I did extensive research and found out that the music player wasn't really that good
And when I saw Mediascape, I told myself she's the one for me!
Granted, the absence of an equalizer control is abit of a disappointment, but well, you win some, you lose some =/

Exactly, if I'm not mistaken it was the first android phone which has the most customized and best looking media player.
SE's designing department rarely fails
Yeap. A blonde, but I've dyed her brunette with XDA
I'm completely satisfied with her as it stands now. An official 2.2 would be a great addition but no sweat if it never arrives. The JiT patch + xRecovery + other tweaks have gotten my X10 to places I never had thought possible. I don't give 2 flips if my mate's Galaxy S scrolls smoother [laugh] or another mate's Desire has dozens of custom ROM's - the Xperia's physical looks and overall UI is what I picked her for - for the rest there's XDA.
That's my story.
The Hardware of X10 or Arc is good the Problem is only the Software. A X10 or Arc with Software from someone here created like zdzihu, jerpelea and all and this would be the best Phone becouse nice Desings, good Hardware and the difference to SE very good Software! The Arc has latest Software so dont know if it sucks or not but the Software on X10 withouth JIT+Root sucks.

That's what really scares me. SE loves to customize their products so that it looks even more like their own creation. That is why SE will not launch any WinMo7 phones since it doesn't allow customization.
X1 was my first SE. I signed a really expensive contract for it which i do not need because i was so drawn into the beauty of that thing. After learning my (1st) lesson I was willing to give SE another go, I bought it upfront so that I can easily move on to another brand if it does not live up to my expectation again.
Well again the x10 didn't live up to my expectation, but at least my wallet didn't go hay-wired this time

I dont know how good is the hardware but its probably not good enough. That spec already existed in some phones thats launched last year. Sure many people would say the duo core is over-rated and 1ghz is more than enough but we're still in the 1st month of the year. If this year mobile phone is all about duo cores, arc will again miss out a lot of latest apps
No App will require more then 1GHZ, this would be crazy. And when Dual Core turns Mainstream SE will have the Arc successor out already with Dual Core. Not even all PC Programs did use a Quad Core and Quad Core is out for many years so i dont think all new Apps will require a Dual Core now.

please help me between those two choieces..

Hello to all members,
I am totally new to this forum and I love it from the very first impression.
I am noob and I know nothing much about android, however I have started to read a lot on this forum. Thanks to all those nice helping guys around.
I am about to buy an android mobile, And, in my budged Sony Xperia X8 and LG Optimus One fits best. I am in great confusion about which phone i should buy.
What i think is X8 is definitely not going to get 2.2 update. But I liked it`s music quality. And in some review, i read that internet browsing his smoother on it than O1. Is that really true?
I want to use lot of internet and music. Please can someone help me out with this?
I done much googling on this, and finally created this thread.
So, in short i wanted to ask you guys to please help about following-
1)can I use those android mobiles as modem, i run windows XP
2)Is it better than symbian s60 ? I am using nokia n72 from past 4 years. Should I switch myself to android?
3)considering internet experiance, which mobile is better?
are there any good browsers available there for more better experiance?
4)according to your experiance, which one should i really buy?
I am waiting eagerly for your responses as I had lot of panic in deciding between these two mobiles. Also, if you know any mobile within same price range let me know.

Wireless/USB Tethering, i guess. Most new Android phones come with this Though I'm not sure if this applies to Eclair (2.1)

I would say yes. Android is much more open and customizable than Symbian. However, Symbian devices require much less CPU and RAM. And in case you ask me, I'd go for Android.

Both of them have a 320x480 resolution, so as screen readability is concerned, I think they're the same. Both don't have flash. There are many browsers are there designed for different kinds of goals. Skyfire, for instance, aims to be able to play those flash videos, even though the phone doesn't have flash player.
By the way, I think the X8 doesn't have multitouch, so no pinch zoom. Pinch zoom is important for me O1 scores here.

O1, since we're going to get (hopefully) Gingerbread soon enough. + multitouch (though buggy), it's newer, bigger RAM and internal memory, etc.
It pretty much answers itself when you post the question in optimus one forum lol, personally I was also considering x8, but since I'm a techie, one look at the ram on x8 (I believe its 128mb) compared to 512mb on optimus one, it was a clear decision.
Thanks!

No problem. That's the power of being stuck at home lol. Anyway, here are other phones I considered in the same price range:
1. HTC Wildfire - didn't choose because of screen resolution (240x 320, too low).
2. Samsung Galaxy Spica - I thought there was no multitouch, is old (yeah, for me), no official Gingerbread (considering the fact that the decision was made last december 2010)
3. Galaxy 3/5 - Screen resolution, no Gingerbread.
4. Optimus Chic - I couldn't wait for the release. It was a good decision on choosing the O1 though, since there is no Chic subforum here in xda afaik.
5. Maybe I forgot some other phones. These were my best choices last December
Motorola defy is the next step forward from these phones. Google for it's specs.
The only + X8 has over O1 is headphone audio quality. O1 is pain for ears, even with good headphones.

[2.3.3] Galaxy S I9000 vs Xperia X10?

Hey guys,
My girlfriend is looking at getting a new phone. Her two options are either the Galaxy S I9000 or the Xperia X10. I have an X10, and that the Galaxy WAS much better, but what I don't quite know is, which would be the better of these two phones once they are both running on Android 2.3.3 (since, from recent news, the X10 will be getting 16 million colours in the next stock 2.3.3 update)?
Would the preferable choice still be the Galaxy?
Thanks guys.
Still the Galaxy, it has the faster GPU, AMOLED + Screen etc. or the new ones with Super Clear LCD, i think the Galaxy will stay the better Phone, but on the X10 you got the better looking Phone and a way better Camera
Running both devices on 2.3.3 will bring them close together in normal working speed, but the galaxy will outperform the X10 in every graphics related app.

true, the galaxy has a dedicated GPU and more ram. That's about it. i would go for the Galaxy. having more Ram and better GPU power never hurt anyone
if it's for your GF, give her your x10 and get yourself a new phone she'll be very happy with the x10 and probably would never use the galaxy s potencial
Also, the touch screen of the galaxy is way better, have a true MT (not pseudo DT).
In favor of the X10 I can tell it is more reliable then the galaxy (I heard lots are complaining about lags and reboots)
And, it has the useful notifications LED
x10
x10 is is better

first off
this is not the questions section but i will be kind and anwser it before a mod removes it
hardware is good rocking a 1.5 dual core wich is faster then stock sgs2 (wich i also own)
sony's UI is not bad still has some left overs from official ics look but overall it has a good appeal
no phone does not lag even when i have serious multitasking going on never had issues not even on ICS
root does not mean the phone is faster
hope this anwsers your questions
feel free to pm me
COME AT ME MODS
I dunno. I like the XS way more than the SGS2, mostly for design and camera reasons. Sony's UI is not horrible like TouchWiz, though I still prefer AOSP since it looks lighter. There's a bit of a problem with custom ROMs now, but we're quite close to getting a temporary hack while Bin4ry works out a better solution.

SHould I get this or XZ Premium?

Currently, there arent that many options for "cheap" Snapdragon 835 phones.
And only this phone and XZ premium have a decent Custom Roms.
Or should I just wait for Snapdragon 835 devices to get cheaper? THe 845 devices are around the corner.

Umm, Project Treble might give better solution on XZ1? I'm no dev but it should work easier for dev. The shame thing is that Sony phones are few and devs might have no interest in it anymore. But at least faster update might be on the cards because of Treble compatibility.

To OP, imo, with Treble is native on XZ1, might be more enticing to try in the long run. But in the end it's about what fits on your hands and what's the device feel for you. My XZ1 is only 2 days, previously deciding between this and XZP, and i chose XZ1 because of single metal build and easier disassembly, plus it's still not much bigger compared to my old mi4c, only taller.

One plus, HTC, Samsung are better for this.
BTW Xz1 is a good device for stock use.
Sony has good stable stock rom. We have custom roms carbon os and aosp.

Better is a thing that is just based on a personal opinion. Samsung for a example is horrible when it comes to real custom ROM support thanks to lack of a fully Open Source archive for their Exynos SOC:s, which forces people basically to use cooked & modified stock ROMS 9 of 10 times.
And so on.

It is partially true as just by throwing an eye on the different Custom Rom threads and you will see the huge difference between what is available.
Xz is good in term of cookers and rom
Xz1 is not
HTC is good (my preferred cooker Lee)
Samsung, you are right lacking open source but some rom are running well
One plus is good also
Excuse if I use "better" not appropriately (UK is not my natural/born language)
Nevertheless, I personally really enjoy xz1 as very very stable and good performances
I am very pleased with my XZ1. I'm debating the XZ2 Premium.
