No Sound From HTC Hero - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently noticed that the ring tone on my phone keeps cutting out. It has now completely died such that there is now no sound coming from the phone speakers at all. The phone does not ring, there is no music coming from the speakers and no notification tone. The only way i know the phone is ringing is from the vibration. If I plug a earphone into the earphone socket there is music coming from the earphones.
I initially thought it was an issue with the earphone socket thinking an earphone was still stuck in it but i never use the phone for music so never use it with earphones and there is no earphone symbol on the phone.
I have backed it up and done a hard reset to no avail (using Rom 3.73.405.5) and confirmed that the ring tone and music volumes are on full.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or can I sadly assume the phone is dead.
Regards y'all

It seems like your internal speaker/ringer inside the phone may be damaged and needs to be replaced. Either a warranty job or replace it yourself if you know what you are doing.

I was afraid of that. The phone is out of warranty but i wouldn't mind attempting a repair. Would you know if there are any manuals or guidelines available?

Not that I know of but this vid might help. They're quite straight forward to disassemble, more so than most HTC's out there!! I'm not sure where you might get a new speaker but maybe E-bay as part of a housing or back chasis?
Good Luck.

Strangely enough, I just had the exact same thing happen to me today. My rear speaker just died, so that I don't hear the phone ring or the notifications. There's no music or keypad sounds, and speakerphone doesn't work. The earpiece works just fine, and if I use headphones I can hear everything, but the speaker in the back of the phone seems to have completely died.
Some questions, if anybody's able to answer them:
I'm using a Telus Hero on AT&T here in the US. Can I still take advantage of the warranty? If so, is this even covered by the warranty? If not, does anybody know of a good place to buy a replacement part so I can replace it myself? Is the part for the CMDA (Sprint) Hero the same speaker?
As for the disassembly of it, I found this thread on HTCPedia that provided a download of HTC's service manual for the Hero.
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1706
Update: Thanks to the power of Google search, I've answered one of my questions. I found this website that sells replacement parts for a whole lot of different phones, including the Hero.
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/HTC-HERO-s/5502.htm
I can't vouch for the website at all, I just found it on Google, but at least it might save somebody else the trouble of searching for it.

Exactly the same thing happened to me too..... one day the speaker started crackling, soon after no sound was coming from the external speaker :-(
I opened up the Hero, and there didn't seem to be much dust, an everything looked ok (nothing burnt out or broken)
bjg222, thanks for the links, I was so close to ordering from that website, when I found a Hero on eBay being sold for parts. I missed out on the middle section (with the speaker), so was going to go back and order from global direct parts
Then, bored one day, I thought I'd check out YouTube, even though I had no sound. A few seconds into the first video, the speaker started crackling to life! The video ended with broken sound, so I loaded up another vid, and inexplicably the speaker started working fine!!!
I have no idea how this happened, or what was wrong with it for 3 weeks, but now it is working again, and has been for over a week now.
Just thought I'd let you guys know..... there is hope!

same thing has happened to me.. no sound yet headphones and earpiece work just fine.
the site mentioned above for parts doesnt seem to have a cdma hero speaker.. just the gsm version which doesnt look the same. the hero speaker actually resembles the evo speaker from what i can tell. anyone know for sure?

The blown speaker was really bugging me last night, so I gave the back of the unit a sharp tap over that speaker. After a few crackles, that speaker just stopped working. Not sure if that means its just a loose connection, but at least the (mono) sound is clear for now....
I have the same problem:
Sometimes the left speakers seams to not handle a specific sound.
I want to change my speakers, too.
But is it possible to insert better speakers?
I want a better quality...
Had the same problem but i fixed mine by myself, had a broken cellphone (china made phone) it had the same size as the archos i just remved the busted ones tape the wires and put it all back together now it works fine

Internal Audio not working (hardware)

Hey guys, I have a hardware issue but first the background story
So my phone fell on concrete and the screen broke. I bought a digitizer and replaced it myself. After a month or so, I broke it again. I replaced it, but the unit I got was faulty, and I only got the replacement today.
I opened the phone again and replaced the digitizer, and it's working great!
however in the process I must have done something wrong since my audio/sound doesn't work anymore.
1)Loud speaker works just fine and the microphone works since I am able to talk to people and they hear me
2) When I plug in my earset, the sound works just fine on the earphone. The microphone switches over the earset's microphone and I can hear/talk just fine.
The only problem that I have is I can't hear anything if i put phone next to my ear :/ I opened again looked around, but didn't find anything obvious that might explain wha went wrong. Would anyone know where to look/what to test?
Cheers
anyone any idea please? D:
I haven't opened up my Mozart just yet but from my experience with HTC phones I would suggest checking the contacts of the speaker. They tend to have little springs on the speaker that come in contact with the mainboard and this is how the signal is transmitted. If these contacts are damaged then you will not hear anything.
With all the drops you may have damaged the speaker itself but I'm not sure of a way you could test that.
The problem i had was that I used my sony ericsson X8 headset and the sound came out funny, the thing that was cuasing it was the microphone. Try stock headset to see if it works. If it doesnt then you might want to get someone to check it or fix it. Up to you.

[Q] Problems with the G2 Vision phone

I am completely new to this so please forgive my ignorance. First question, is the T-Mobile G2 Touch the same as the T-Mobile G2 Vision? Because I am having trouble with my G2 Vision. Let me describe the situation. My phone suddenly began having problems. Mainly, it's ear-speaker makes no sound when I send or receive calls, even though plugging in an ordinary pair of earbuds allows me to hear the person speaking. At the same time the mic is affected, because the caller cannot hear me either. However, if I turn on the Speaker option during the call, the outer speaker and mic work properly. The normally loud outer speaker, however, is no longer working if I try to play music on my phone, though it works if I plug in the aforementioned earbuds. (It can make sounds though, because it beeps when I put the phone's volume settings all the way up.) The really strange thing though, is that as soon as I plug in my earbuds my music starts playing. Now, I already tried a factory reset and it didn't work. But before I did the reset, I had another music program on my phone as well, and as soon as I would plug in my earbuds, both music programs would start playing; the one that came with the phone normally, the one I had installed glitching. I really couldn't find any information that fit all these factors and since I know you guys are the experts, I came to you for help. Anyone know what the real problem is and how I can fix it? I would really appreciate any help you could give me.
you wrong section !! This forum htc hero G2,
and not G2 Vision T-Mobile(htc Desire)

[Q] Anyone had this problem with TMO HTC One + headset?

EDIT: Moderators, please feel free to move this thread to the troubleshooting/Q&A forum. I didn't realize it might belong there... Sorry!
OK so I got a new HTC One and so far I love it in all aspects except... the following:
With a headset plugged in to the headphone jack (earbuds with in-line mic and button) any amount of jostling or rotation of the plug in the jack causes my phone to skip songs, stop playing music, and begin redialing the last call in my call log. This issue makes the phone practically unusable for listening to music, as even the slightest shaking of the plug (i.e. from phone in pocket while walking, movement of headphone cord from turning head left or right while sitting still, etc) causes problems.
I thought it was a problem with the individual device I got so T-Mobile was nice enough to send me a new HTC One...
And it has the exact same problem.
I have tried several different headsets with button and mic. Notably, all of the headsets with mic I've tried all work flawlessly on all other devices.
Has ANYONE had this problem?
Note that I Intend to record a video of the problem for evidence, but I'm pretty convinced its a design flaw in the HTC One.
At this point I have all intention to go with a different device, as much as that pains me to say (probably the Xperia Z)
EDIT2: After some experimentation, I have discovered the problem. It is a ridiculous design flaw on the part of HTC. I will post pictures later along with videos. In theory it can be remedied with a new set of headphones of a certain style or possibly some electrical tape or other insulating material, but I really don't think that should be a requirement of using the HTC One.
EDIT4: See here for my post on reddit with a description of what I believe to be the cause of this problem: http://www.reddit.com/r/htcone/comments/1k6ia1/illustration_of_a_design_flaw_with_the_htc_one/

i just picked up a set of ear bud n mic headphones today and played music and did voice commands with it today and had no issues but it was a short period of time...i will try to replicate ur issue and report back later today.
its a issue with something of htc software i believe. it was doing similar with my skullcandy ink'd second gens.
i looked into it a lil but not alot. but it seems only certain headset/earbud combos work properly. i really dont know why theyd have it like that. but for me i had to play around with the mic button and what not.
It's the head set I have earbuds and soul, soul works fine
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I've run into this problem on other phones before, but it was always the 3.5mm jack. Either it was tarnished or the case/jack design combo was causing it to not seat fully. Check very closely that the jack is fully seated and maybe try with another set before condemning the jack in the phone as bad.
I believe I have diagnosed the cause of this and other problems. Please see the OP for links to photo album with descriptions.
I purchased mine back in june and never had this problem. Ive used 2 pairs of headphones with the device (some $5 kyocera promo headset from when I worked at metropcs and a pair of Sony MDR-XB500). Only thing I could think of would be faulty software/hardware (phone jack) combination.

yeah , it's right.
I have this very issue on my HTC one Since my wife's HTC one doesn't experience it with the same headphones I just concluded it was some tolerances that were off on mine I mainly use Bluetooth so I didn't feel it was a big enough issue to return. I had originally searched to see if it was a widespread issue, but could not find any others who had it.
I have not had the problem, either with a headset or an AUX cable I use for my car stereo. The headset jack on mine fits very snug and the plug does not touch the housing except maybe a very small area where the lip is metal.

[Q] Vocals not being played/echoing/too low volume

Hello all,
So my girlfriend bought a fake S5 (yes yes, buying fake things ain't smart, but it works great apart from the music.. and the battery)
Well now, when she wants to listen to music, she plugs in her earbuds and what happens is that the vocals are like too low in volume, they are echoing or just at all not being played. Unless she holds the handsfree button (that button that lets you skip songs, pick up a call, etc.) the music is just messed up.
I tried her phone with my headphones (ofcourse doesn't have a handsfree button) and it works just perfect. We bought new earbuds without handsfree button and that just does the same thing as the headphones she already had.
Now, the guy that sold her this phone told us he bought it from here:
http://www.slmart.com/sdp/1258442/4...msung_galaxy_s5_mobile_phone_copy_cell_p.html
Maybe there's somebody here that can help with this issue? Maybe it's the software or just the hardware? I'm convinced it has something to do with the phone's software, but there is so little to be found about this phone that I figured I'd ask it here.
Thanks in advance for helping!:fingers-crossed:
Thread van be closed, it's a hardware probleme unfortunately. When I Tried it again today the sound played good when my cable was in a certain position, we've contacted the seller trying to discover if all phones have this problem.. If so we'll just gonna have tot accept it
