BGP100 Bluetooth Game Pad - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Accessories

So, I've had a BGP100 for quite a few years, (Probably at least 5) tucked into a drawer.
I used to use it for my old Ipaq HX4700. As I remember, it was okay, but the emulators available were pretty slow and there was some noticeable lag between button presses. I pulled it out today to see if I could use it on my Touch Pro 2.
The results were... pretty bad. I can get my bluetooth stack to see it, however there don't seem to be any drivers. Supposedly, there are some official drivers and people keep suggesting that I use those, selecting the HTC Magician option on install. Unfortunately, the drivers seem to have disappeared. All I'm finding are broken links.
I then installed the GamepadHD2BlackPanther exe, designed for the HD2, but it crashes almost instantly. Finally, I installed the BGP100 software and that came the closest.
It works for about 2-5 minutes before loosing connection. It keeps popping up the "Bluetooth Serial Port" over and over again, asking me to reconnect. I have to exit all open programs and then restart bluetooth and then the BGP100 program. Then do it all over again in 2-5 minutes.
Anyone have a working solution for the Touch Pro 2?
Edit: and it won't let me post links, so I guess someone will have to read my mind.

Im about to buy one soon, just to try it on my TP2 (Tilt 2) but it seems to work on the playstation emulator just that the buttons are not pressure sensitive.
I was able to find a driver or program for the TP2 so the gamepad would work on it but i still dont have the gamepad.
ill try to find it and post as soon as i can
if i cant get it to work on my TP2 then i still have my Axim x51v
HERE IT IS, use at own risk because i have not tested it or remember were i got it
i think it might be a modified version of the tool

Working Broadcom/Widcomm Stack For WM6 X7500

Going through the development forums I discovered this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353774 .Someone posted a link to download a better bluetooth manager , after downloading and started installing it, the installer said it was helmi universal stack. And after looking around I discovered helmi was testing this new stack he was porting to htc universal and had headset and a2dp profiles working. So after installing I rebooted and the icon showed at the bottom so to test i clicked start bluetooth and to my surprise IT WORKED !! on my x7500 runnin the official wm6 from htc.On helmis thread he noted that it might work for apache but I confirm it runs on athena.Anybody else have feed back?
!!!!! BACKUP AFTER FURTHER READING SOME FOLKS HAD PROBLEMS IN TERMS OF TOM TOM AND AUDIO MESSUPS AND LOCKING SO BACK UP FAIR WARNING!!! THIS FOR PLAYING WITH IF YOU BACKED UP OTHERWISE YOU CAN MESS UP UR PHONE!!!! I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY AS IM TAKING A RISK MYSELF WITH NO PROBLEMS THUS FAR ON MY PHONE.
you can download it from

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291639
supported profiles is avrp,a2dp,obex,sap,handset.bt dun,pan,serial.
THIS IS NOT MADE BY ME I SIMPLY FOUND IT IN THE FORUMS.I KNOW THIS WORKS FOR MY DEVICE (X7500 Running Official WM6 From HTC) .ANY OTHER DEVICE OR CONFIGURATION I DONT KNOW CHECK RESPECTED FORUMS FOR POSSIBLE SOLUTION
SPECIAL THANKS TO HELMI FOR PORTING THIS WONDERFUL STACK SO CHECK OUT HIS THREAD ABOVE.
How have you got on with this? BT is really the last bit of the Athena that I am not 100% happy with.
It's seems to work.
Installation with no problem and the bluetooth start.
But i think there is probleme with serial port.
I want to pair a bluetooth barcode reader (Opticon OPL2724). The dongle's driver installs a serial port on the PDA X7500 wich is used by the barcode reader to transmit the data.
I can connect the barcode and i can see in bluetooth manager that the barcode reader is connected (ingoing connection). Just like with my asus P535 with a native widcomm stack.
But I can't receive any data from the barcode reader
Is there a problem with registry setting for serial port ? This stack is for Universal and maybe there is some fix for X7500 especially for the serial port profile.
Please M. Helmi, can you help me. I would love to have this stack working with serial port and my barcode reader !!!
Hmm - just tried this to see if it fixes the problem with my Style-i going out of range all the time and although it shows as connected and I get the headphones on my Athena nothing I do on the Style-i Gets sent to the Athena and music playing comes out on the Athena not the Style-i - so it's just like it isn't connected really!
Oops - went to uninstall it and my phone hung - rebooted and it didn't - after first splash screen it just went bright white. Had to reflash.
Oh well, it probably needed it anyway!

Yeah I found out later on the stack is configurd to the free ports on universal but on athena it conflicts with gps.Gps port is com 5 ,but the bluetooth stack uses com 5 as outgoing serial port. What i did in registry is simply change the gps comm port in registry to comm 9 then configure progs to use that for gps port and it works.Using builtin gps option doesnt work because gpd0 keeps using comm 5 and I believe thats coded in a dll somewhere.
In my original post I mention if you wanted to uninstall the stack to check out that helmi thread because it explained how to do so and it even had a activate ms stack cab there.I Did say backup before install.
Also found out that if you have stack running and reset it deletes connection settings, activesync settings and hides phone setting tabs ( I used schaps tools to fix that)
For now I dont use this stack anymore untill helmi or someone who has the knowledge to make a few simple fixes ( I GUESS MOSTLY REGISTRY) to get this working 100 percent on athena.
the file is expired, could someone who has it post it with a little bit more details about installation process
thansk
I would like to see this as well
I used the older Helmi stack on my Universal and it was much better it's the only one that works with the Chainpus/Random branded Bluetooth Gamepad as their MS Stack drivers does not work with their own product but generally seemed a better stack overall. I'm tempted to give this one a whirl and see if it behaves as the older one was a bit buggy when I tried it before and had to do the whole hard reset thing.
Hopefully this will be the topping on the cake now I have AP4 up and running

Athena Project Prerelease Tester Bugs And How To Solve Them

I just thought that amidst all the abusing by various people, and asking and begging etc, the people who actually have the rom should post their findings on it so far. Maybe say what os u used to flash, and then any problems you have had with it.
I used XP SP2 32 bit, and these are the bugs ive found:
1)I have this weird thing with the battery where even after being on 80% at night, then charging overnight, both pocketplus4 and resco today say its on 95%. The light is also green before i pull the charger out.
2)I had a problem with wisbar not showing the full start menu, in that some parts only had icons and no text, but a reinstall fixed this.
3)Opera also doesnt load my homepage properly. I have set it to the athena mobile 6 forum, and whenever i load it, it goes to www.htc.com. But when i click settings, it userdefined is selected and its the right URL.
4)Theres no top line on the tabs at the bottom in settings just the lines between "personal" "system" and "connections", ill post a screen shot if needed...
5)finally, audio sometimes doesnt resume when i pause a video and resume it.. but the video does..
Im not trying to complain here, just thought it would be good for the team to ahve somewhere to look to see the bugs people have, and maybe you can try and iron them out for the full release. that is why there was a prerelease after all.
Fianlly, please REFRAIN FROM POSTING unless you have the rom.
If your device has been "bricked" by the prerelease spl, please post in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385148 not here.
Solutions to bugs:
The battery bug: no soultion yet
Opera Homepage bug: instead of going to a page, then settings and clicking use current page, copy the url, and click user defined and paste the link there
The settings tabs graphic problem: Solved by a hard reset. a hard reset may also solve all graphics problems
The audio not resuming problem: disable wow hd [ people said this, i tried it, didnt work for me]
Thanks to the team for all their hard work!
Rory
3) Opera homepage was wierd for me in not working initially when I set it but ok now.
Think what I did different was to set it in "User Defined"
Its not obvious but you can finger scroll the opera settings pages down to show more options
4) Line is ok for me, running RealVGA 96dpi
5) try turning off WOW HD Settings
AP4 works great for me. Other than a few missing icons I have zero problems. The battery (new) shows 100% when fully charged.
Agile Messenger
http://www.agilemobile.com/
is an example of several applications that appear to install fine, but when you try and run them, don't start. Maybe a WM6.1 problem rather than AP4.0 ?
I REALLY do not like Agile anymore. First, they charge. Second they send your password as plaintext! How stupid is that???
And yes I do have the 95-96% battery bug.
Flashed using XPSP2 - followed the PDF exactly by updating radio to 1.57 first and then installing enableRAPI.cab before starting the update process. Have flashed before so did not need to install the drivers from boot loader mode, they were already there.
1: Task Manager icon missing at 96dpi
2: logmein seems to be an issue with WM6.1
3: camera album hangs when opening a video, needing a soft reset
4: WMP will not open in Portrait orientation in 96dpi.
5: The comm manager is still only filling a quarter of the screen in 96dpi mode.
6: Device hangs when trying to open BT SAP settings in 96dpi.
I know some people have mentioned issues with the USB to PC storage mode, but i have not tried this yet, but will report back when i do.
gonna keep testing to see what i can find and update this as i find them.
EDIT:
Fixed no. 4. - Whenever i tried to open WMP in 96dpi portrait it simply crashed and closed again. fixed in the following steps.
set real VGA back to 192 and reboot device
open WMP in portrait.
Got to menu/options and select the skins tab.
Wait for the skin to appear (this will take several seconds)
Once it has appeared on the screen, tap OK and then close WMP.
reset VGA to 96dpi and you're good to go.
This was exactly the same way i used on the WMP bug in AP2/3.
USB to PC storage actually worked VERY well for me Saved me from having to download WM5torage.
I haven't had any of thoose problems. I flashed it via xp and just clicked on the athena wrapper. my thoughts so far is that its a nice rom some annoying problems I had were the screen oriention changing when ever I soft reset. soultion was to copy the toggle to windows\startup and reset and it won't change by itself. as for opera I hated the 9.5 so I uninstalled and installed 8.65 I cant get tomtom to install on this rom. but was able to run route 66. had problems with palringo(im client) and it upgrades itself. I installed schaps configurator and maxed at all the settings. runs super fast now! questions I have for the team is why do they recommend upgrading to 1.57 radio? im using 1.38 with out any problems. another is does the new home screen require net frame 3.0 to run? or why include it in the rom. if im wrong correct me but isn't it a beta?
overall good jobs guys
tomtom 6.03 installed and running fine for me.
Only odd thing is that as you drive screen keeps swapping between landscape and portrait, so just used the icon to disable auto rotate.
What about a option for no bugs?
another thing i just noticed is that the device runs much qiucker using the netcf 2 rather than the 3 thats installed on it. another thing i noticed is that if your sending a message using the attached keyboard when your typing the sender it wont pre guess it. but if i use the sip it works fine
still existing the problem with the watch, as for AP 3. The phone each time you reset moves the zone to GMT +2
I don't understand the brick advice. It is a regular update of rom.
There too much programs no needed, still waiting for a vainilla version.
Now i see what you mean by the battery bug. I had not noticed it previously.
If i charge the device to 100%, showing in the settings menu, DCI battery bar, and also green light, as soon as i unplug the device, it drops to 96% almost immediately. I can actually watch the battery bar clicking down each percent over around 15 seconds!!
Windows media player not opening in portrait at 96dpi has been solved, simply go back to 192 and open WMP in portrait. Got to menu/options and select the skins tab.
Wait for the skin to appear (this will take several seconds)
Once it has appeared on the screen, tap ok and then close WMP.
reset VGA to 96dpi and you're good to go.

Several bugs
I have installed AP4 according to the manual and it went like clockwork.
After four days of havy use I have noticed some problems:
1. On sunday and monday I had several problems with the microdrive. Several times the drive vanished in Resco Explorer or there were strange files, or complete directories were read only. Everytime a softreset solved it. I decided to flash my device again and now everything works fine.
2. I use TomTom very often. Installing works fine but with the latest versions 6.032 build 8351 and build 8355 I have problems. It happens very often when I am navigating and I change te route, that when TomTom is recalculating, the program gives a error saying that because of an error it can not calculate the route. Only a softreset solves the problem. Tomorrow I will test the wm2003 version 6.03 on AP4 to find out if WM6.1 is the problem.
3. Today I had several problems with the radio version 1.57. It was already installed when I used AP3. After entering my pin the device connected to the intenet but there was no trafic possible. A softreset solved it. But this happened several times today while driving on the road. I also noticed a problem I had in the past with my universal. While I had te problem I disabled the phone, but the connection stayed. There was also trafic. Very strange.
4. Another thing that bothers me is TouchFlo itself. Sometimes it makes it impossible to select text. Within TomTom the screen does not respond as it did in AP3. You have to press hard and for a longer time before TomTom noticed that you pushed the screen. The same TomTom has no problem on my HTC Touch Cruise (Polaris).
5. I used F-Secure for months now but now it will not install. I had to install compact framework 2 first.
6. I noticed another thing this aftenoon. When I was in TomTom te diable call button will minimize TomTom and you cannot see it anymore with WkTASK. First I thought it hd crashed but after starting it again I noticed that the program was running in the background.
7. This evening I was browsing with RSS hub and Opera. I was hitting a link and on te page was a flashvideo. After Opera had started the page was loaded but just before it was finished Opera shutdown completely.
8. I want to end this review with saying that I also have the probem with the battery indicator not showing the 100% energie level, the htc album freezing my device, iGO8 not wanting to start, Opera not wanting to start mediaplayer after hitting an mms link. Internet Explorer does, and several websites use a specific fonts which result in a webpage with very large text. E.g. http://mobiel.nu.nl/pda which normaly shows small fonts. I have no probem with it on AP3.
Beside all these problems I like the rom. Route66 workeds perfectly on AP4 so I can live with the TomTom problem. A few weeks ago my plus account ended and I did not renew it yet.
QAN
OK, battery bug seems to be getting worse, charges fully and light goes green, all battery meters read 93%, even when still plugged in!
I am also experiencing problems with the internet as detailed by Qan. It works fine for a while and then it stops and i have to soft reset. Am going to flash back to 1.50 radio as i never had a problem with that - although i am a bit worried about flashing a radio on the pre-release as it does not have the locked SPL that would be in the final release, but i suppose if i use an updater that only contains the radio, it shouldn't be a problem (famous last words!!).
I have noticed that my touch screen seems to be much less sensitive. This I am guessing is down to touchflo waiting to see if you are going to scroll and therefore it is not picking up the quick taps. Annoying, and possibly the one thing that will send me back to AP3 dual. The touch itself bugged the hell out of me for being so unresponsive on the touch screen, but the touch dual was much better. This seems to be at the level of the original touch and not sure it is something i can live with.
This is not to detract for the rest of the ROM. It is superb, and the current bugs are minor, and no doubt the guys and gals of the AP team will fix them all in no time. I just am not a big fan of touchflo and would rather it was not there. but hey, we all have our own personal tastes.
I am unhappy with the autorotation of the screen (you can imagine while you are driving).
The device is times no responding because maybe touchflo way of work.
I don't see special speed or capacity improvement from ap 3 and times speed is lower than generic 6.1
Bluetooth disconnect more often, but not sure if it is because I moved radio 1.53
The other point I see is that there are too much stuff programs for me. I use other ones and the problem is memory...
still waiting a vainilla version, if it is possible.
I would like to be a technician in order to understand the memory improvement this rom has meaning, may I ask somebody to explain please?

HTC Hero and Nokia CK-7W handsfree set

Hi @ all,
since a few days i am a proudly HTC Hero owner. Its quite an amazing phone with many features and a steady growing Market.
At the weekend i tried to couple my Hero with my bluetooth handsfree set installed in my car. But what i recognized wasn't so much pleasing: The Hero didn't display the handsfree set in the list of available bluetooth devices.
Before i got the Hero i had a HTC TyTN II aka Kaiser and it worked well with the handsfree set.
Perhaps anybody else have some similar trouble or experience with this and maybe a solution, fortunately. It would be great to keep usage of my handsfree set furthermore.
Thank you and best regards
On handsfree there are some buttons right ? You need to press them in a combination so the handsfree can be detected by your Hero. Just search on the handsfree guide or internet. I cannot help you because I don't have it and don't know the button combination. When you find it go to settings and turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Just search it and connect to it
Hi omokas,
yes, you are right.. but i've done this.
The users guide says you have to press the main button for 1 second. After that you will get a feedback sound and the led gets flashing... so far so good.. everything is fine but the Hero doesn't recognize.
Hopefully there are no different bluetooth protocols or whatever the devices can't communicate.
Have you tried an application from Market ? It may to the job
But if not then your handsfree must be an older version that your Hero can't recognise. Before buying a new one make sure your phone works with other handsfrees.

No, i haven't tried yet. Can you recommend one?
At the moment i'm not able to try an other handsfree. But i've just seen the handsfree is able to store seven pairings... maybe there is the problem.
So i'm going to delete all pairings and give a next try.
Thanks
Yes try that. You could try the application "Bluetooth+Headphones".
Sorry if I am not able to help further but I don't use handsfree because I am 13 and I don't know how to drive.
No Problem... I am appreciate for any Help!
Did you get any results yet? E.g. did the removal of the other pairings work? Or the app from the market?
I'm quite interested in this since I'm still looking into getting the CK-100 build in my car
I am planning on getting that carkit wired up outside of the car, so I can at least give it a try and see if it wants to work. But don't have that much time to give it a try yet, end of next week perhaps...
I have a CK-7W and it works with my Hero (official orange ROM).
It was a bit of a nightmare to get paired in the 1st place, the hero failed to find it but I kept trying and it eventually found it. I think I might have reset the hands free though (pull the power for a few minutes).
The device usually pairs pretty fast, sometimes it takes a min or two but not often.
My only gripes are :
1: some times it doesn't send the audio to the speaker keeping it on phone requiring you to use a menu option to do so.
2: The ring tone isn't the one set on the phone but a generic ringer.
3: Occasionally the phone doesn't disconnect properly when the other end hangs up requiring you to do so manually.
I have a CK-15W car kit
and its fully supported
it even downloads the phonebook very well
ck7w and hero
My hero worked first time! To pair you need to leave ignition off and hold the button in until it beeps, not just a short push as that just turns the car kit on. Once its beeped search for it and then pair using code. As yet I have had none of the problems mentioned here. I hope this helps
I have the same phone (Android 1.5 stock ROM) and the same Nokia CK-7W handsfree set.
For me this works fine. Didn't have to press the button on the handsfree set. Just searched for BT devices and paired.

Apple Wireless Keyboard and TNT Lite

I am not sure how many of you out there share the same desire to have a thin/small wireless keyboard to go along with your beloved GTablet. I have a netbook carrying bag that barely fits the dimensions of the Gtab and I wanted a keyboard that matches that width to fit in the bag. The apple wireless keyboard is exactly 11 inches wide and the Gtab is 10.5, close enough in my case.
I am running TNT Lite 4.4.0 and decided to buy and connect the bluetooth keyboard with little initial success. I am not an android developer, but don't give up easily and am happy to report that I finally got it to work. Here is how:
1) Download free app called Bluetooth Keyboard Easyconnect
2) Turn on bluetooth
3) Turn on Apple keyboard
4) Scan for bluetooth devices on GTab
5) Pair to Apple Keyboard after it is discovered
6) Enter a pin into your GTab, (ex. 0000) and then OK.
7) Quickly, while it is trying to connect, enter the same pin into the Apple Keyboard and press Return. They will now be "paired but not connected"
8) Open Bluetooth Keyboard Easyconnect and it will take care of the connecting part.
Hope this helps someone.
Absolutely. I futzed for 30 minutes before giving up yesterday, I could get it paired but not connected. Thanks for the info!
I was able to connect a Logitech DiNovo mini using this info. The touch pad worked too but was erratic.
Are you able to get the greater than/less than symbols (< >) to work? I have a bluetooth palm keyboard and can't seem to get these characters to come up. Instead it gives me a semi-colon and colon.
opnscraddict,
I hadn't tried that one yet, but you are right. < and > don't seem to be working. Everything else I tried works though. Hmmm, maybe one of the paid keyboard apps would provide a key re-mapping functionality. I think I can live with it the way it is though, and use the onscreen keyboard when necessary for those two characters.
Works for Bluetooth mouse
I've also used EasyConnect to get my bluetooth mouse working. I was in the same situation with my mouse as the keyboard - it would pair but not connect.
I'm working on replacing my school laptop with my GTab and I need those keys for my C++ class. I found a thread on how to customize the key mapping, I'll try it when I get home today. Link
Does your bluetooth keyboard reconnect automatically when you turn on bluetooth without any interaction? I couldn't get mine to connect again after the first time.

I think you are going to regret that decision.
Right, I'm not entirely sure on how feasible it is. However, the majority of my time on my school laptop is spent on Facebook, Onenote and Visual Studio. The battery life and weight advantages of the Gtab make it an attractive replacement.
I can confirm that by following the instructions that I linked to in my previous post I was able to remap the keys to enable the greater than and less than signs.
Huh?

How are you going to install Visual Studio on the gTab?
I am going to access my workstation at home through rdp. I've tested the scaling and latency and it is pretty seamless. I also considered trying to run Ubuntu through VNC locally on the tablet and just using a linux IDE. With this keyboard workign 100%, this seems in the realm of possibility now.
Ah... gotcha. I use LogMeIn Ignition to access my laptop from my gTab. I used to have to carry that laptop around on trips and now I just take my gTab.
finally gave up
I tried for a whole half a day to get my Apple wireless keyboard to work. I'm using Vegan.
I finally gave up when I just plugged my full sized Dell keyboard in, and it worked like a charm without any issues at all. I'm just going to go hunt for a mini USB keyboard and I will be more than satisfied with that.

[Q] - Ca-Fi Android Car Stereo

Does anyone have the Ca-Fi Android car stereo? It seems it was recently released. I really want one, and will probably get one.
ca-fi.com/en/
Im debating on ordering one too.... though they list a 800mhz and a 1.2ghz version. Seems the 800mhz version is the only one available
Wish XDA would make a section for it and some custom **** was done with it!
total junk. save your money
I got one yesterday and installed it. Save your money. Its total junk. Was definatelu rushed to market.
No android market (yes you read that right)
Navigation requires data connection either through hsdpa gsm 3g or wifi (meaning you have to provide data for navigation to work at all)
Voice navigation doesnt work (it asks you to install additional files via the market, which again doesnt exist so it fails)
Every time i start the unit it goes to fm radio even when i dont want it to. Force closing the radio app does nothing.
The list goes on and on and on. NEVER AGAIN

I actually thkught about that too. Problem is you really cant connect it to a pc so any rooting work woukd have to be done via microsd card and run natively in 2.2. Not only that even if you root it theres no gurantee the android market would be installed as the "default" market. This means the voice navigation may never be solved.
Long story short, i am veey disappointed. :-(
that unfortunately, I wanted one for my birthday

Doesn't it have a USB port on it?
I made the same mistake of purchasing one. I have been unsuccessful in trying to root it. Z4 will just freeze the device requiring a power cycle. I attempted to connect via USB but did not have any luck using this method either. The problem is that the radio runs both USB ports in Host mode. This keeps it from showing up as a device when you connect it to a computer. I have tried both the front and rear ports with Windows and Linux.
I did manage to get the Android Market app installed. It took a good bit of work and involved copying the Google apps including first boot to an SDcard and sideloading them. The first boot app did break my home button, it currently does nothing and I can't figure out how to re associate it with the launcher.
Once I was able to connect my Google account, I was able to sideload the market apk. Of course, this required working wifi. The dumb device is configured for wifi using a wpa_supplicant file which specifies that 802.1x authentication is required. Seeing as I'm not using this on my wifi, I needed an app called wifi fixer to override this setting. I also needed to setup an unsecured wireless network because I couldn't get wifi-fixer to connect to a wep or wpa network. Once connected, the wireless was very spotty but worked long enough for what I needed.
After all this was completed, I was able to download an offline navigation app, copilot live, that would allow me to use the device as a nav while I wasn't sitting in the driveway connected to the wifi. I did try connecting to my rooted DroidX with CM7 using wifi tether but could not get the radio to complete the connection.
As shassouneh pointed out, it boots into FM Radio every time its powered on. This allows it to start playing music quickly, but is very annoying. I typically stream music from my phone over bluetooth which requires the volume to be much louder than when listening to the FM Radio. When you start the vehicle, the volume is remembered and will be deafening. The FM radio application is very buggy and it will take several attempts to save your radio presets with an acceptable name. It tries to use the digitally broadcast station information as the preset name, but often it just returns garbage. After trying some twenty times, I was able to get most of my presets to read the frequency and the FCC station name. (ex. 93.1 WPOC).
The touch screen is very disappointing. It's a low-quality restive type which requires that you touch below the point you're aiming for. This makes getting to buttons at the very bottom of the screen a challenge. I tried calibrating the screen, but was sent into and endless loop of touching the cross-hairs...
The "Phone" app has all the bluetooth configuration including pairing, contacts, music, etc. it is very rudimentary. The radio frequently fails to connect to my phone on its own and needs to be forced to connect. Sometimes the play button will start the phone playing music and other times it won't. I haven't found a rhyme or reason for it yet. It doesn't support AVRCP and as such you get three buttons when streaming music over bluetooth: Previous, Play/Pause, and Next. There's no indication of which song is playing nor is there any way to browse the music on the phone from the radio.
Overall, the device is absolutely terrible. Perhaps if I could root it, I could fix a number of its annoying characteristics and it wouldn't be so bad. I was most disappointed by the poor wifi and the FM radio at boot. There is such potential here to make an awesome device... Do not waste your money on this piece of garbage no matter how tempting it may be.
Bought one also !!!
I discovered that the product seems to be sold has with another brand :
http://www.ekoore.com/web/en/product/car-hi-fi-2/elija-2/overview-6.html
The point is that they are providing an update.zip containing files and probably could be used for rooting the device. Found the link http://www.ekoore.it/download/elija/update.zip in the italian forum.
From what I understood, this is a 2.3 device ...
Confirmed mine is 2.3.3
Tried several rooting tools (Z4, GingerBreak, Visonnary+, Universal Androot ...) none of these are working.
Wasn't able to dump the rom (no ADB, used terminal with RomDump V7.2) but found that there is a physical switch inside the box. I can have a message displayed "No signal received", just by starting the device while the switch is pressed. Didn't manage to konow if this is bootloader mode or not.
Found a Quick Start guide explaining how to build kernel and so on http://wendang.baidu.com/view/6545cb13a216147917112879.html
Chip TC8900 seems to be used widely for several chinese tablets. So rooting shouldn't be as difficult as it seems. My guess is that the only way to have it rooted is to modify the update.zip above....but I don't know how to do it !!
From what I understood, the radio, BT etc ... parts are not running Android and are something completely different. The only way to switch to an android environment is to go to navigate mode.
Guys,
I'm surprised, I've had this installed in my car for a couple months now and it works great and I do use it daily and thoroughly.
I have installed Android market (couple of minutes, easy to do), have my email, contacts, everything setup, I even get auto updates for installed apps
Bluetooth pairing with both my HD2's works flawlessly and synced all contacts from both phones
The dedicated iPod interface works great with my 160Gb iPod, I have a USB hub in the glovebox with a 2.5" HDD , WiFi dongle and 3g dongle all connected in.
Navigation doesn't require a data connection, I have a several different SatNav apps installed - some online and some offline, but I stick with Waze as I like it..., Waze unfortunately starts up in portrait but that's easily sorted with a press of the home key and Waze also puts up a single warning about battery being flat, but there's no battery, so what would you expect.....
can also listen to good quality internet radio on the move
If you buy a device like this, you've gotta expect a data connection to be required for initial setup of your apps and how you want them, I've run the device without internet, through my phone and through a 3g dongle.
It works properly and reliably with my original steering wheel controls and the way it sets this up is the best I've seen on a in car device and simplicity itself.
It also boots to the last source being played, in my case normally iPod, but if the iPod etc is missing, then it will default to the radio.
The touchscreen isn't the best in the world, but is very useable, if the alignment is out then recalibrate it by holding the back button until the calibration screen appears..
Only thing I really don't like is if you burn some mp3's to a cd/dvd, they play through the dvd interface, not through the android media players.
I genuinely like the unit, it's a nice toy to have in the car and has no more issues than any other android device I've used...

Should say that the FM quality is really awful ! Can't even get the RDS working ...
French translation is missing sereval items (or completly false). Got the wifi + market without too much trouble. The touchscreen is usable.
I definitely love to have it rooted

Does anyone have the Ca-Fi Android car stereo? It seems it was recently released. I really want one, and will probably get one.

I've got that stuff from their dealer in Russia, I think juliabrothers.net
Cool device. I loved it sound quality, pure, very sharp image. Very quick response. Yes, the touch screen isn't as good as we used to have on smart phones. Still works o.k. Just look at others DVD player made on Windows CE6.0 platform. They ain't better in anyway.

Could you please give me a hint how you manage to install Market on that thing?
Still working on it. Which Android version do you have? I have 2.2
You see, Android Market which built for smart phones doesn't work very well for CAR stereo devices. That Market doesn't differentiate between "good" and harmful applications, which can shut down your system forever.
Remember most of software designed for smart phones doesn't work under CA-FI platforms. Supplier said so, I 'd be happy to be wrong.....

Is that possible to use that manual for building a kernel, which could be used instead of pre-installed software? Seems interesting. Any thoughts?
Market came from the 2.3.3 build already installed on device. You probably can try the apk within the update archive http://www.ekoore.it/download/elija/update.zip . As the italian website is quite slow i extracted it. From what i understood update seems to not working on all devices.
Regarding the manual, of course I was thinking it could help for anything like root, recovery image or enabling adb. But honestly i don't have enough knowledge to do myself.
Hi Everyone, just found this thread. I have this unit as well and have been building info on the MP3car site about it, overall i'm happy with the unit although i haven't been able to do everything i want to it.
The audio quality for me is good and i can tether data off of my phone to play internet radio and navigate through waze or otherwise. I'd definately like to see some development in this area myself as there are some welcome improvements to be made. i've sideloaded the market but was never able to update it. the player will default to the last built in media that was played when it shuts down and there seems to be several volume streams built in, i've heard people haven't been able to adjust these with volume apps.
here is the MP3car thread: http://www.mp3car.com/android-tablet/150109-innotrends-ca-fi-on-order-will-review.html
Upon request, here is the update zip from the italian forum. Rename from update.zip to elira-update.zip
elija-update.html
I recently purchased and installed the Ca-Fi "Universal" 620 to replace my JVC head unit that died after 5 years. Because there isn't much information out there about this product, not even from the manufacture, I thought I'd provide the good and bad from an audiophiles perspective(...and I only coin the term audiophile because I have a full on sound system in my car, not because I'm into the lossless debates and all that BS).
The Bad (or the ugly):
-Has an individual RCA jack for subwoofer output. (left/right(white/black, red) is pretty standard. Now I have to buy a sum'er to join the channels. What if I had two subs running left and right channels of bass...I'd be up a creek and would have to buy splitter then a line driver...blah come on.
-Although there is individual subwoofer level control there is no subwoofer (low) frequency control. So, my lows that run to my subwoofer are the lows that will run to my speakers and I can’t do this cause my front stage was meant for highs and mids.
-The Graphic EQ, although having 10+ frequency to set they provide automatic roll off of nearby frequencies so, it's hard to fine tune.If you’re going to give me that many frequencies then please let me control each one of them.
-The balance controls (and all other touch screen sliders)were OK but, they sorely need increase/decrease buttons (i.e. “+” and “-“). Trying to configure a good sound stage is hard with resistive touch screen sliders.
-The P.CNTL (I assume Power Control, again no documentation) is switched off and on when you change sources (or I think actually when no sound is “sensed”) whaa? So now, because my amps have delayed starts, each time I switch a source (or Pandora even buffers a new song) the relay power drops to my amps and I have to wait for my amps to power up again. Not to mention the pops because of the high current switching on and off..man. So now I have to find an off delay relay so my amps don't turn off when I change the source. Now I could very well be the idiot on this one and need to use the P.ANT (I assume power antenna) but, the reason I didn’t is because P.ANT is solid blue wire, whereas P.CNTRL is a blue with white strip which is more industry standard for relay control.
-The boot up source is always going to the Radio. I read some other folks already discuss that here and there but, come on, really, you can't just remember the last source I had.
-Bluetooth (or lack thereof) yes, it will play your music from your phone (in my case HTC Sensation) but, that's about it. If I want to change an artist or song or whatever I have to do it from my phone. I thought it would have this to make me a safer driver so I don't have to look/mess with my phone to get new songs, guess that's what I get for assuming?
-Auto screen Dimmer doesn't work or isn't that great cause I still have to manually dim the screen at night.
-Resistive touchscreen I gotta hammer the screen to push buttons. Each push takes my attention away from the road, no bueno!
-Wifi doesn't support WEP or WPA no biggie since I'm driving and I don't think hackers do drive by hackings (or do they?). But, still sucks cause when I use it at the airport I have to turn it back on. Just a nuisance but, wifi WILL tether (provided you buy the additional USB Wifi Adapter).
-Some Apps don't recognize my wifi connection and thus will not work. Case in point, Google Maps. wft! the whole reason I got the thing was to wifi tether with my phone and control goolge maps from ca-fi. Nope can't do it. booo.
-Double DIN – not really. I don’t know what standards they followed but, my original brackets from my original Double DIN HU (head unit) didn’t work. The unit sticks out so far my radio door won’t close and there’s a gap of about .25 inches on both sides. No install kits will work with this because it’s not truly a standard Double DIN.
The Good
-The bluetooth phone capabilities work good. Contact list is ok. Of course it sucks for me because of the whole P.CNTRL thing. Yes, when I switch to Phone it turns off and on my amps…grrr.
-Mini SD card slots and a miniUSB port in front, very nice/convenient.
-System isn’t as slow as one might think for such a “slow” processor. My HTC Sensation runs circles around this thing ;p.
-Nice interface for the radio.
-You can run Apps. Although a lot of them crash (i.e. Force Close) every now and then for no apparent reason.
-Pandora works (with wifi tether) very nicely.
-Push button (knob) for mute and knob volume control.
….that’s all I’ve got for now but, so far the goods don’t out weight the bads so, I’m not happy with regards to the amount of money I spent vs. what I’m getting vs. what actually works. I’m not upset because I went into this fully knowing I was going to be a guinea pig but, if you’re a music first, apps and other **** second, kind of person like me steer clear my friends.
Not that any manufacture ever cares or even reacts to forum post, I’m going to try and communicate this to the manufacture and hopefully see if a) they’re aware of these issues and b)if they plan to release fixes/patches to help their “new adopters” out. Don’t get me wrong this company has a great product and great idea but, they’re seriously mistaken if they think they can compete with the big boys (Android Apps or no Android Apps).
What do jou Guys/girls think about this product....... http://www.chinavasion.com/2-din-ca...chable-android-23-tablet-panel-wifi-gps-dvbt/
I find it very interesting
