I was just wondering if there's any chance that the Dell Streak ROM will be ported to the HD2?
Or if there's any chance of getting the same perspective as on a Dell Streak by using another Android ROM but with landscape with the Streak's "taskbar"

Its unlikely as the Streak has a fair few different bits of hardware to the HD2, and its taken months to get an Android build from a phone with a similar specification to the HD2 so far.

What do you mean about different bits of hardware? The Dell Streak have the same Snapdragon processor, and the same resolution. Is it the screen you refer to as different bits of hardware?

What he's saying, is that the Dell streak has different hardware compared to the sexy HD2! Although the processor may be similar, it's not the SAME. It'll be a model variant. Also, the memory module manufacturer, the touchscreen drivers, and other internal hardware will almost certainly be manufacured by different corporations. That means it'll take longer to make the hardware and drivers to interact etc. And anyways, why the Dell Streak? That's like going a step backward Then again, you have your reasons and wishes in accordance to them Hope I helped!

Ah , I did not think that much about different manufacturers.
Why the streak? Love the taskbar And my mother owns a Nokia N900. So Im quite familiar with landscape use.
And landscape on the giant HD2.. Damn that'll be nice.

I have asked about this before and one guy claimed that he was able to build it, but it was pretty non-functional.
Nokia showed off a Meego phone a little while back and it looked pretty awesome. I have been running meego on my netbook and i like it, although it clearly needs some developer love.
I hope someone ports it over, it would be awesome to be able to switch to a different os just in case Android goes down due to patent infringement or something like that.

I was thinking of getting rid of my touchpad since android progress was slow and there are so many nicer tablets coming out. But now guess I will wait a little longer.
I really would love to see WebOS take off. I like it better then Android in some ways. It would be cool if Android apps could run on webOS. Now maybe it could happen.

That's what I do not understand.
IPhone, Android, and WebOS are all Linux.
Why aren't all the apps interchangeable?
What is really different about an IPK or an APK?

Yes, Android, iOS, and WebOS are all based on Linux kernels. The difference between them is that each has a different "framework" to access the kernel features. The "framework" is basically an API (Application Programming Interface) that interacts with the Linux kernel that is basically controlling the hardware.
Hence, an application that emulates one OS while running another is simply doing a translation from a program written for a particular API into the native OS API. The problems with emulators are of course, first and formost performance, and second it may not be possible to translate all actions from one API to the other.
I remember the days when the argument for Linux was that it is portable from platform to platform... just recompile and off you go.
just because they are releasing the source for webos does not mean they are releasing any touchpad specific source. Our version of webos may never be open sourced. it's a possibility.

Do you guys think a port of win8 will be possible? i mean they said 1gb of RAM is enough to run win8... and 1.5GHz should not be a problem if Atom is 1.6GHz, since we can overclock it and stuff..

Technically, its "possible". But nobody is going to take the time to port Windows8 to the Flyer. Windows is closed source, making porting it over extremely difficult. Plus, there would be no drivers to make the hardware work with the OS. I'm no developer, but the enormous amount of work to overcome these obstacles make them infeasible, compared to simply buying a Windows 8 device (when they become available).
On the other hand, there are developers who will try just for the fun of it. Will it be usuable to the general public? I doubt it....

Read lots of issues and complaints about W8. Its a ubuntu mini wannabe. Its a nightmare on a pc and probably going to be classified as a cousin to vista. Windows is a mess structuraly compared to Linux, which is Android.

There are a few reasons why it will never work, most of them people already mentioned
1. You can't compare a 1.6Ghz Intel x86 processor to a 1.6Ghz ARM one, the Flyer is well below the minimum specs.
2. Microsoft will not publicly release their ARM builds, they will only sell them directly to OEMs unlike the desktop version of Windows 8.
3. It's closed source.
4. If someone does miraculously manage to get it running (hey this is xda), functionality will be extremely limited as there is no legacy app support for ARM.
You could install Ubuntu like DigitalMD said and put Win8 on a VM in there.... doubt it would boot though and you would have to find chuck norris and make him round-house kick the lag.
From ALL of the Tablets on the Market, I have checked out ALL of them. The one that I'm the happiest with is the Sprint HTC EVO View Tablet. It's the LOUDEST of ANY & ALL Tablets on the market. Anywhere from a little bit to a lot louder. I know that it's just a 7" screen, but it has the best sound. I would like to get Windows 8 on the HTC EVO View Tablet. i hope that ANYONE can come up with a solution to this. If anyone can come up with a solution to this, then I would put it on the HTC EVO View Tablet ASAP!

We installed it at work on an HP Slate that was running Win7, and it constantly freaked out about the resolution not being high enough. If a device that was meant to run Windows OS is unable to run Win8, it's not going to happen on an Android device. At least not officially.
And considering we can't get an ICS build running, it's a pretty good bet we'll never get Win8 to run.

I have a slate 500. Did you set it to the higher resolution? Win 8 should work, although the screen is a bit off at the higher resolution.

Well that was just one aspect of it.
We weren't able to set the resolution any higher then the max 1024x600. It just wouldn't allow anything higher. It *runs* but anytime you click/swipe etc it vomits error messages.
Still, so many challenges keeping it from happening on the view/flyer. It's a pipe dream.
Yeah this ain't gonna happen. Already got a very good , usable OS.

Is it possible looking at hardware? Yes, I think so. The architecture should be fine, as there is an ARM version.
However, what do we need?
-Drivers for Windows 8, and if we want to make this work out correctly, we do need the ability to write drivers ourselves, which is a lot of work.
-A custom bootloader. I hope that, after we get ICS to boot on the Flyer correctly, we can work on a bootloader, as it would be really nice for a real tweakers-tablet, so there might be a possibility for this (not giving an ETA, as I don't know how much work it is and it will take a lot of time, don't get excited on this at all...)
And besides, when we can work on a native Linux-distribution, I don't think it's worth it to work on W8, especially because every way we get it running is not legal. Oh, and let's not forget the work it takes to get it to boot, as it would take quite some magic to get a Windows kernel booting.

and what do you think about windows phone 7 on the HD2? i believe it was extremely hard, but people made it

Naysayers always say nay. I'm amazed at the accomplishments @ XDA thus far and have learned never say never. I for one would love to see this happen.
Some people do things because their told it can't be done.
im using the rtm windows 8 right now i gotta say its pretty good ...early builds had issues but they did good quicker smother would be awesome if they could get windows 8 on my VIEW cuz its def built for mobile ...splashtop for now

Technically possilbe, but it's extreemely unlikely to happen. Especially since windows is in no way open source, and the flyer doesn't have that many modders.
Hey guys, didn't know where exactly to put this, but imo it fits best here (if not please tell me)
So i thought about fooling around with software and hardware, basicly: getting iOS or win7.8 or win8 on a android device (and i am not talking about some sh** that just looks like it)
As i have no experience in ROMs or anything programming related i just wanted to know if this would be possible?
It would be really awesome as i am very fond of fooling around with hardware devices where you dont expect the software you have xD
Because i heard of some classmate of my cousin who flashed android on his windows-phone (he had some old 6.x version)

Well, it's impossible. iOS needs specific HW, plus both OSes are closed source. You can run Android on iStuff and on WinMob devices (HTC HD2) because Android is open source, you can change everything in it without problems.
iOS and WP aren't open source and you can't modify it.

the iPhone has its own processor -- the "A6" is used in the iPhone 5 which is based on the ARMv7, but I'm confident it is different enough to effectively make "porting" the iOS to another hardware platform essentially impossible (short of repackaging an iPhone's internals into a different case).
Now Windows Mobile 8 runs on "Qualcomm Snapdragon S4" chips (according to Wikipedia) which seems a bit safer on the hardware end...but then you're looking at trying to get a closed-source operating system to run on a different hardware..
I'd say Windows Mobile 8 is pooooossible, but it's a very very long stretch. And then, is it really worth it? Or just to say that you did it?
I think I'd just stick to Android since they are GIVING us the operating system. It's like free money!
