Request: Camera LED Flashlight - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

Has anyone been able to find a working app that allows us to use the camera's LED Flash as a torch?
I've tried the various ones on the market place but no joy as of yet.
Would anyone care to have a crack at making one? Pleease

I have also been searching for this, I did find motos flashlight...but it didnt work on the streak

nobody got any ideas?

Wow am i missing this.
i live in the country and was always using the LED on my SE X1 as a torch especially in the dark nights it was a god send.
I'm hoping that once the septics ;-) get their Streaks some developers will pop out of the woodwork...hmm I wonder if Fards will have a crack at it?

would love this i couldnt find a led flashlight app that works on this or the htc evo 4g

I thought I'd give this a bump, now that our American cousins are piling in

I'm pretty sure none of the current apps will help us, it will have to be made specifically for the streak. Not sure how to go about making that kind of app, but it can't be too hard... right?
I'll look into it.

The htc evo 4g ver 2.2 comes with a flashlight that uses the camera's led's. Has 3 levels of brightness.

Maybe
I have a week off work and was going to knuckle down and get into some coding - i've never done Java before but I have the SDK and have found the resource documents for using the built in camera, and also the flash module.
I've got it worked out on a very very high level: include the camera library and set the flash to on or off. Beyond that I don't have a clue.
If I am successful, I am going to base this on the application for WM called TorchButton which I have been using on my HD2 for some time. It has on/off, SOS, strobe function.
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581382 for TorchButton thread. I doubt this dev would port this to Android as it's very different code for WM/Android, but if you have a HD2 I would highly recommend that app.

Well, I've found that Droidlight on the market successfully turns on the LEDs... the only problem is that it can't turn them back off, not even taskilling it turns them off, only a reboot- so suffice it to say that usability is limited ;-)

Actually if you take a picture while leds are on they turn off.....its annoying but i guess its a bit more convenient than having to reboot device

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the LED control applications for Android and the camera flash light. Although LED's, they are not part of the function of the Android LED manipulator software. These applications just control the frequency and colour of handsets which have the LED notification lights on their front.

I think most people are clear but for newbies that may stumble into this thread I'll break down a description of 'LED' when referenced by apps/users etc.
Screen LED: The screen is an LED panel and some apps in the market place called LED torch are referring to the whole phone screen. They will often place a blanket colour over the entire screen (usually white) and refer to this as a torch.
Notification LED: Some android phones have small coloured LED's inserted in the sides or the top that will flash on receipt of a call or message(The Dell streak DOES NOT have any notification LED's).
Camera LED: This is the LED that sits beside the camera lens on the back of your Dell streak, It's used as a 'flash' when taking a photograph in a dark room.
The above request is for an application that will turn on the Camera LED. So that it can be used as a torch.
The camera LED is very bright and quite effective as a torch (N.B. prolonged use may/damage the LED bulb)

Hi guys,
I've just released Tiny Flashlight v2.2 in the Android Market. This version supports several new devices. Can someone with Dell Streak 2.1 check it and tell me if it works?

Galaxy SII notification LED?

I saw a lot of Galaxy S2 preview movies now. But one thing I'm still missing is the notification led....
Lots of reviews, do a review with the charger hooked to the phone. But there's nowhere a led burning that the S2 is charging or something.
Is there a indication LED on the S2 or did the people at Samsung just leave it out?
Personally I think I would miss the led notification if it isn't there.....
Is there somebody who can tell a bit more about this?
Nope, there is no Notification LED for Galaxy S II.

Somebody told me that on the Galaxy S there was a way to use the buttons on the bottom of the device to use them as a notification led.... Anybody has more information about this? Or a movie as an example?

No, LED's have a lifetime well over 25 years of normal daily use. You will never burn them out unless it was defective.
Well, then I will certainly look forward to his mod. Although the Sound alerts will also suffice.
But that'd only for SMS though

Would be nice if someone could make a program in which different patterns for lightning the leds at the bottom of the screen can be choosen. And that it's possible to assign different patterns to different notifications.
I often have my phone in my jacket, when I'm at work. The fastest way to check if I have a message or something is when I can take a look at the LED notification... We'll see what the future brings.
No LED? There is a video on YT of the boot-up sequence and at 20 seconds in a LED flashes purple at the top left (next to the front facing camera). The model is a retail version (as it has the Samsung logo on). Surely this is the notification LED - or am I mistaken?

Corrected - seems I was wrong! Didn't know the video had already been posted on XDA, turns out it is a proximity sensor

Any news on the mod which acitvates the light of the home and back button when you have a new message?
The app that you guys are searching for, to turn on the buttons, is called BLN Control.
Here's the site:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/bln-control-free/neldar.bln.control.free
It requires you to have a kernel that has a BLN mod however.
Finally its here!

Thanks for this. I checked the site but didn't see how to install it. So i googled it and found this:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/enable-back-light-notifications-on-galaxy-s-ii-with-bln-guide/
You need to have a rooted sgs2 and CWM installed. download the zip from here (same link posted from the site mentioned):
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1359&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1200262&v=1&libid=1312840807984&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.multiupload.com%2FIY7A211PI7&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.xda-developers.com%2Fandroid%2Fbacklight-notifications-mod-for-galaxy-sii%2F&title=%5BMOD%5D%20BackLight%20Notifications%20for%20Galaxy%20SII%20-%20GT9100%20-%20xda-developers&txt=Back_Light_Notification_GS2_v3.zip%20(6.77%20MB)&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13128419398541
Flash it in CWM, then reboot. and now my buttons light up when there's a new message.
btw, you should also have the BLN control app from the market (the lite version is free, but less options of course.)
Update: I bought the pro version! and now i can set it to blink, plus it also blinks when there are missed calls. Lite version has only a static light and doesn't notify on missed calls.

[Q] Any flashlight app or torch? CM7

Any cm7 LED torch app?
What have you tried already?
Typically I use the Tesla LED flashlight and that doesn't seem to be working.
I would think that whatever works with the Nexus S should work with the Fascinate though I cannot confirm this.
I've tried
I've tried telsa led on my phone but that doesn't work. I know the led works cuz it works with the camera app as flash. I have tried downloading all the free flash light apps but non seem to work.
I seem to remember someplace in the not so distant past that someone had it built into the CM6 for use. Perhaps that could be done. For now I am not all that worried as JT is making incredible progress with the CM7 build he is working on.
I will poke around a little more myself before I call it one way or the other though.
Ive tried every single flashlight app I could find and none work. Its weird cuz the flashlight apps see the LED but when i turn it on it doesnt turn the LED on. I love the cm7 builds and this is the last thing I would love to have working. Thanks for your help so far tho!
I use devuni.flashlight works great.
norm883
That's the app I used on com rom 2.1. But threw cm7 it doesn't work. Norm883 does it work for you on the latest build of cm7
I just tried it & its a no-good for me on cm7.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Well it is good to know it's not just me or my phone. Hopefully when cm7 gets updated it will work this issue out. It's not a big deal but it is always nice to have a flashlight with you.
At the risk of being Captain Obvious here, if the LED function isn't working at the moment, most flashlight apps can also just turn your screen bright white and that's plenty bright too.
I use and would recommend Tiny Flashlight + LED as, unlike TeslaLED, there's only one version and it's free -- you don't need to buy a donate version just to get basic functionality like the screen light (unless TeslaLED has changed that, anyways).
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight
Also, you can get the pure white screen through a function in CM7. If you activate the power control widget there is an option to add a button for enabling the flash light (white screen). This doesn't help you with using the LED but for the time being until this function is added it is a nifty little feature that gives you some light with one push of a button.
Guess I'll stock with the white screen for now. It's still pretty bright but ya just can't best the led. Well thank you all for your help.
I built this from CM source a month ago, its not 100% but it works on TW builds at least. Don't try to use any of the strobe options and I've also had some strange things happen occassionally where the flashlight would turn on when I received a call.

I tried and it won't even install for me. I'm on the 0704 build of CM7 with the OTB kernel.
Still unable to find a flashlight app that makes the LED run...
I tried about 4 of them from the Market yesterday but none operated the camera flash LED. That includes one that says it is made for the Nexus, which I thought would work but did not.
TeslaLED always worked for me. Though, I have yet to test it on the new CM7.
Definitely worth a try though. GL

[Q] Notification led for sgs2

As we all know, the sgs2 doesn't have notification leds. However, we do have leds under the menu and back buttons. I was wondering if anyone knows of any app that takes advantage of this. I want to use the menu and back button led as a notification led. Periodically flashing would be extremely helpful. I know there is NoLed on the market but that isn't the most elegant solution. Perhaps even using camera flash on minimum minimum brightness could be doable.
You need BLN for that. (Back Light Notification)
1- You have to flash BLN compatible kernel for that. For example- Ninphetamine.
2- You need to have liblights.zip installed. You can find it from Jame Bond thread.
3- You need to install BLN Control Pro for that, free version wont work for Missed calls and stock SMS/MMS app.
4- If you want notification for stock SMS/MMS app then you have to install 'Light Flow Lite' from market.
I was recently using it with that kernel, but I don't like that kernel at all.
Besides flashing too many things for just a simple light notification is very kiddish. Got rid of BLN and back to CF. No intention of getting it unless it start supports all kernels.
Regards.
Im running the villainROM 2.4.2 with ninphetamine kernal and XXKG6 installed.downloading the BLN app from the market you get that.

Has anyone noticed the red light that appears at the top of the phone next to the front camera and sensor? I've only really noticed it once the phone has been fully charged.
Perhaps this could be used to indicate a notification, assuming there isn't an app that already uses this light?
Lol, thats the Proximity sensor taking effect dude.
Sent from GT-I9100
Well whatever it is, could it not be used as a notification indicator if it hasn't already been?
Sent from my GT-I9100
No sir, it can only be used in a call when you put your phone near your face/ear it helps to turn off the screen.
Regards.
Wait, so that really is an led light?! I've never seen it go off, it would be sweet to have a red notification led, just like my old Blackberry... BLN works okay for now, though is is NOWHERE as bright as the led on the blackberries.
I started using NoLED, coming from a Desire I was a bit disappointed. I like NoLED but I'm concerned about the impact it has on battery even though I have mine set to 1% brightness and I rather have the standard icons on screen rather than the custom icons to be honest.

why such hassle?
i thought android suppose to be the smarted OS. :-(
back when i was using symbian, light signal plus, a simple app can make softhey LED lit up.
i was hoping theres a widget or app in android that can do the same thing.
rooting or flashing for such small function seems overkill. :-(

[MOD] Blinking Button Notification for ROM 354, 360, and GS2.4b3

BLINKING BUTTON NOTIFICATION for 354, 360, and GS2.4b3 Dell Streak ROMs
UPDATE (2011/10/20) v0.999
Uploaded blinking button notification patch version 0.999, for ROM 354, 360, and GingerStreak 2.4 beta 3. Drop support for ODEX-ed ROMs as it seems impossible to update with ODEX-ed framework on ROM 354.
Download the correct version for your ROM below:
Update.zip v0.999 for DEODEX-ed ROM 354 and 360
Update.zip v0.999a for GingerStreak 2.4 beta 3
UPDATE: Confirmed working as tested by zero410
Changelog (0.999)
- Fixed screen turned on during LED blinking. Screen will never turn on neither lit when blinking the notification!
- The 3 capacitive buttons cannot be used to stop notification anymore. The phone needs to be unlocked with power button to do so.
- Prevent button LED blinking on proximity sensor activation during phone calls.
PS: The most ideal, elegant, and power-friendly solution for enabling backlight buttons for use on notificaiton LEDs are, still, loadable kernel modules. The patch will never reaches version 1.0, unless it is implemented as kernel module, in the future.
UPDATE (2011/10/16) v0.91
Uploaded blinking button notification patch version 0.91, for GingerStreak 2.4 beta 3.
Changelog (0.91)
- Fixed blinking to disable when USB is connected between 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
The feature wasn't working before.
ORIGINAL POST v0.9
What is it?
I would like to have a notification LEDs like the ones found on BBs. Unfortunately, Streak didn't came with any (hardware) notification light. I've tried several notification solutions but still not satisfied. Heck, I'm not even satisfied on how Froyo handles notification LEDs! Hence breaking in the Android framework, and the resulting update.zip
This update will patch your Streak so it will now blinks the button(s) backlights whenever an application puts *any* notification icon on the status bar. That's right, the patch won't care whether notification asks for light or not. It'll just blink it! The update also (of course, priority requirements!) notifies and blinks missed calls.
How to use
0) Always do nandroid backups! You can just restore the system image if anything goes wrong.
1) You'll need to know whether your ROM version 360 is deodexed or not. If you don't, then most often it's the odexed stock ones. Grab the correct update patch in the attachments.
2) My Streak is rooted. But there is no requirements for root privileges on the updates. So I think it should work on non-rooted phone. Hopefully.
3) Clear /data/dalvik-cache contents before flashing. Sometimes it needs clearing, but sometimes it don't
4) Boot into StreakMod and flash the proper Update.zip package.
5) Restart. As usual, on deodexed systems, replacing files will cause some longer boot time as the update is odex-ed during the boot process. Be patience.
6) Lock the screen, let the screen timeout, or whatever.
7) Get notified on any notification icons and missed calls
8) Congrats! You can now busy playing with your (better) other phones and keep Streak laying on the desk without even touching it!
Features
+ Blinking keypad backlight notification for any applications that provides notifications with icon when the screen is turned off.
+ Missed call notifications, too.
+ One-press power button to clear blinks. You can use any of the three capacitive button, also. Cool!
+ Blinking is disabled when ringer is in vibrate mode. Useful when Streak is in your pocket and blinking it would be useless.
+ Automatically disables blinking when charger is plugged in, after 8:00 PM and before 4:00 AM. Useful when you wanted to hibernate, together with your phone, you phone!
It should be able to be re-enabled manually through notification icon, but unfortunately the feature isn't working (yet!)
TODOs and glitches
- LCD blinks before the first blink, and keeps awake -- albeit with zero brightness -- while blinking. Cannot solve without custom kernel (or custom drivers?)
- Tapping the notification for "Button blinking disabled" does not clears the notification nor re-enable blinking.
Somehow I can't capture the Intent sent from NotificationManagerService itself. Oh well, probably will be important for people who works midnight and slept in the afternoon!
- Inconsistent behaviour on clearing missed calls notification and other notification types.
If you did not answer call while LCD screen is on, next lock screen will cause missed calls notifications blinking. The notification on the status bar had to be cleared before locking the screen.
- It is not known how much battery drain does leaving the phone blinking all the time costs!
- Can't imagine doing all over again on this on Galaxy Note. Maybe I'll just skip that!
Happy blinking!

Hi,
Will be trying Fards' and DJ_Steve's latest GingerStreak 2.4 later tonight. There seems to be very positive response on the system stability on the release.
I wouldn't mind having my own Gingerbread build for that kernel including the feature. If so, I would plan to extend with additonal Settings for Gingerbread that gives you more control on the blinks
I am also thinking of another possibility to run Gingerbread on Streak, but will check their latest release to see whether it's stable enough for production uses.
Will check them after trying GingerStreak 2.4
Cheers
UPDATE: Flashed GingerStreak 2.4 and it is indeed very promising. There might be something on the pipeline though, as stated on the wallpaper

Well there are some reasons why I'm not keen to use the StreakLED:
1) I don't like to have a service hanging around wasting my RAM for something that should've (and is, actually) been built into the system.
2) The modification for Blinking Button notification works of framework level and hijacks all notifications. Any app that attempts to show notification on the status bar will be blinked
But I've just re-read StreakLED's entire thread and thinking. Probably it would be good to have a LED that stays lit instead of blinking to get better power saving, after blinking for sometimes, say 1 hours.
The unresolved problem seems to be the way to just "wakeup" the backlight buttons instead of the entire LCD screen. If anyone knows how to wakeup just the backlight buttons, then power problems should be solved. Haven't got luck with writing "power:blablabla:wakeup" on /sys/leds/button-backlight/power/wakeup.
Looking forward to see the beta on GB

Yes I know (I did accidentally during testing it. It seems like a harmless bug in the backlight driver), but it's for keeping the button backlight lit during screen off.
But why would you want led on all the time with screen on? We are going to let backlight stay lit after an hour to preserve lcd power?

I agreed with you. It's not very distracting though, but it's a good idea, though it had to come with settings in which you can enable/disable. Will post back once I findout how to modify the behaviour.
Great job! Works great on StreakDroid GingerStreak 2.4 Beta t-mobile aws
Very useful, thank you very much...
On 2.4 gingerbread my screen stays on all the time. Are there any options available for this?
Thank you.

I agree. It would be great if there was an option to disable the screen from turning on. The L.E.D. Notification is great but if you had an option to keep the screen off this mod would be perfect.

Obviously what's preventing the mod to become 1.0

if it could light the buttons up for a notification and not the screen, and have a side option to keep the buttons lit all the time while the screen is unlocked that would be awesome
It has potential but as of now I went back to streak led. On my device it seems that screen stays on for ever. Also when you make a call the screen would turn on and stay on regardless of proximity sensor because there is a notification in the notification bar while talking. Just letting you know. Thanks for your involvement in development.

Ah right, the trigger doesn't detects whether the phone state is in call or not. Fixed on next release.

[Q] Notification lights?

Is there a way to turn the hardware buttons into the notification light instead of the Power button led? I have a case that covers the power button and miss the notification blink that I had on the Atrix HD. Thanks in advance.
There's an older app for that on the play store. Called LG notification lights or something like that. Doesn't officially support OG, but might be worth a try. I don't recall any talk of the feature... Probably because we have a notification light. It was popular on the i777 though.

Thanks. I'll have to check that out. The only reason I want it is because of the case I have. :good:
I have confirmed that LG Touch LED Notifications by Martin Börjesson works on my E970 with KitKat AOSP 4.4.2. I have the Diztronic TPU case that covers the notification light. When I get a notification it will vibrate first (can be adjusted), then light the capacitive buttons. Perfect!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.martinborjesson.o2xtouchlednotifications
I used to have a Samsung Moment that did not have a dedicated notification light, the Devs used to do kernel edits that allowed for the BLN app by Neldar to work.
Also, just in case there is anyone like me who keeps their phone on vibrate but still wants notification lights for Gmail without the vibrate notification, do the following within the Gmail app:
Press hardware menu button or three squares menu button in top right of Gmail app to access Settings;
Select your connected Gmail account;
Leave Notifications box checked, press Inbox sound & vibrate;
Press Sound, select Silent;
Make sure Vibrate is unchecked.
What I would love to see is the ability to assign up to three types of notifications to the three capacitive buttons that we have.
Example:
Missed call = Back button
SMS message = Home button
Gmail message = Menu button
Missed call + SMS + Gmail = All three buttons lit. Hmm... maybe I will email this suggestion to the Developer of Trigger - location profiles to see if they could add this sort of functionality to their already awesome app.
Does anyone know if the E970 has one LED light to illuminate all three capacitive buttons, or are they three separate LEDs? Edit: Boo! Only has two... http://imgur.com/a/ydoJb
I've been using an app called ButtonLED I found on XDA since ICS days and still works with KitKat roms. The GUI is pretty basic and not the prettiest but the app is functional. When you turn the logs on, it will track what app or keywords appear in the status bar. You can then go in and add that app or keyword to be excluded and not trigger the notification. I'm going to check out the LG app and see if that performs better (battery drain, etc). Here's the link for the info on ButtonLED... http://www.xda-developers.com/android/buttonled-turns-your-hardware-buttons-into-a-notification-led/ Even though the app is not being updated, I've been running 1.6 with no issues.

didn't work on mine unfortunately. I'd tried it a couple of weeks ago while looking for solutions on this issue (along with many other apps). I'm on SnowJB. So far the only one that has worked is using Xposed+GravityBox... the problem with that one is that it seems to link the side notification LED red light to the front softkeys LEDs, so when the phone is charging and the red LED is flashing on/off the front LEDs flash as well. This bothers me because once I go to sleep and charge the phone the white front LEDs do seem very bright... plus I don't like the fact of having them flashing every night for 8 hours straight, gives me the impression that it'll cause them to get damaged much sooner than normal since they weren't really desinged to flash like that. There is an option on GravityBox that says DISABLE LED FLASHING WHILE CHARGING... which I thought could've helped to prevent that charging flashing but at least in my case that option did nothing,
It would be awesome if someone could come up with a mod for this. Even better if someone knew what file could be edited through root browser to make the red light flash faster on notifications.

Install the button led app. It works.

You could probably do that with Tasker in the Play store. $2.99 though.

Thx....
didn't work either... which version did you install? (I saw there were several on the dropbox download link).
The problem I have with these apps is that they interrupt the normal function of the softkey lights... for example I like to have these lights always ON while my screen is ON as well, I don't like them to time out... and there is an option withing stock Android to set them up like that.... but when I use an app to use the LEDS for notifications for some reason it disables the stock preset and shutts them off entirely while the screen is on... I kinda gave up on this. I'd just be so happy if I could modify the frequency of the RED LED on the power button on notifications.

I use the same setup with cap keys always on. That's the downside all apps/mods have regarding the keys getting disabled when the screen is turned on after a notification. Simply turn the screen off and back on to reset the keys and they will turn back on/reset. I'm using 1.6.
