HD2 Is not charging or turning on - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

okay so i have a hd2 with 2.08 hspl and everything as of yesterday after my 2.12 radio flash everything worked fin. but when i started charging it i noticed it didnt show the usb connection when it charges. well it had 9% left and i fell asleep i wont up and it was completely off. im pretty sure the radio disabled the charging ability or whatever when i took my dad to the airport at 4 i looked up a little bit and saw i should take the battery out for awhile then try? i did that and i got it to bootloader with USB but it wont sync. i then reset it and tried to turn it on it started to turn on then died i think the battery is dead cuz of this whole radio thing
so i guess my question is how do i fix it? do i need to install a Rilphone.dll? or go back to my old radio? if so how do i go back to my old radio. then again i could be all wrong
***update i got it into bootloader with usb again im going to leave it for awhile and see if i can get a charge***
****update 2, i guess i can charge it enough in bootloader mode, so how do i enable charging again so i dont have to charge in only bootloader mode?****

No need to go to boot loader to charge. Just keep the phone switched off and charge your phone. The LED will come up in a few seconds. Leave it to charge full till it becomes green as usual. Try putting your device in boot loader & flash YOUR REGION STOCK ROM. Then flash any custom ROM if you wish.

you sure? cuz it never charged before when it was plugged in normally, it just went till it died

take the battery out, plug in USB, then re apply battery. It should shortly begin to charge without trying to turn itself on (which it does if you simply plug usb in whilst battery is in.)
I doubt it was the radio, i'd be more inclined to think you
1 - bent a battery pin
or
2 - faulty hardware.

wait bent battery pin that would make alot more sense.
*checking pins*
it seems as if the middle one (ground) is bent up a little i pushed it down so that it was touching the battery and it worked. im just curious if it broke completely is it possible to replace these?

Looks like it would be a crazy tight solder job if it did, probably just as easy to get the whole device replaced.

My Easy Fix
So my phone HD2 will not turn on or charge when plugged it in. I was freaking out. 2 days without, until i found a thread that told me to take out the battery. Hold down and press the Red power button for 30 seconds. While holding it down put battery back in.. careful you are connecting battery pins to battery when doing this. Then plug back into the wall power not PC. Walah like magic MY once bricked T-Mobile turned back on. ( worked after the 6th try)
Best of Luck.

Thanks for sharing this info. this trick worked for me too.
The phone went past the boot screen n showed me windows mobile logo.
It did restart again once or twice. Then I kept the power button *pressed* continuosly till the phone booted up completely

sorta helped

I received a HD2 in a trade, and it was set up for android. I couldnt charge it, and when I turned it off.. it would just restart by itself... so i thought maybe if I put WM6.5 back on it, it would fix it, nope. This trick DID fix my charging issue, but unfortunately, NOT its restarting when I turn it off. So.. anyone have thoughts on that? lol

Sudden crash and won't turn on

I've had this phone for 2 months.
I started up dead space, had wifi on and it was downloading the game data.
left the room to clean the kitchen (maybe 20 mins) when I came back the phone wouldn't unlock
pulled the battery and turned it on, phone booted but wouldn't get past the initial samsung logo.
after that it wouldn't turn on at all
I pulled the battery, left it for a few mins, put it back in, tried booting up, tried getting to recovery, download mode, tried removing sim and sd card
is this an issue other people have had? am i screwed? i left it plugged in w/ the battery in on the off chance it didnt have enough charge or something. but the battery logo isn't coming up
Try charging phone for an hour or so.
Question: when you connect your phone to the pc, any reaction on the pc side? Is Odin recognizing the phone?
If you can't get into download mode by holding down home+volume down+ power at the same time, you can buy a usb jig (or make it your self it's not that hard)
Just google for usb jig.
Other than that. I have no idea.
Good luck to you dude.
Sent from SGS II Running CriskeloRom V34.
no reaction anywhere. the battery animation isn't displayed when plugging in either.
can't get into download mode to use odin. i ordered a usb jig (figured it would be good to have it anyways)
the phone is currently plugged in, the battery feels slightly warm but it still wont turn on. i'm hoping it is a faulty battery.
my plan is to go to a phone shop tomorrow and ask to borrow a battery just to see if it will turn on, if not ill try a repair shop. if not that, then i'll start complaining about my warranty to the international seller i got it from on amazon.
Sorry to hear that.
Good luck.
hi if u have a tester test the voltage on the battery -/+ for dc voltage if it's zero u need to shock the battery.
i brought it in to bell and asked to use a spare battery. the girl took it right out of her phone and put it in mine, tried to turn it on, nothing. no download, no recovery, no reaction whatsoever except for a slight warming around where the camera lens is if you hold the power button for a long time.
looks like it's fried. i really hope I can get a return with the amazon seller. i've only had it 2 1/2 months

[Q] Rezound Bricked?

My Rezound is broken
I unlocked and de-sensed it, but that was when the unlock first came out and it's been working fine since, so I don't thing that's the problem.
The phone won't come on, and when I plug it in the charge light doesn't even come on. If I leave it plugged in, then take the battery out and put it back in the charge light comes on for a few seconds, then turns off.
I was at a new years party the night before and I may have laid down on top of it while it was in my pocket, but the water sensors are fine, and I don't remember it ever getting wet.
I notice there are a lot of connections between the phone and the back cover. Is it possible that something could be bent and these connections aren't being made, so the phone refuses to do anything? I tried putting wires across them where they would normally be connected, but it didn't seem to help.
So what do you guys think? Is there something else I can try? I guess if it's totally broken then they can't tell that it's unlocked, so I could try getting a replacement :/
First off, I wouldn't have put any wire across any of the antenna leads like that. Second, if the phone is not coming on with the cover off then you may have another problem. The phone should turn on without the cover. You just wouldn't have signal.
My opinion, try another batter if you know anyone who has one. Or maybe go to your VZW store and see if they will let you use one of theirs. If the battery/phone is too hot the LED will blink orange, once it is cool enough, or full enough to turn on/charge again it will become solid. The fact you get an indication when there is no battery leads me to believe there may be a problem with the battery itself.
with the phone off, pull the battery for several minutes. Then put it back in and plug it in to the charger. Do not try and turn the phone on. If the charge light comes on and stays on, just let it charge for a few hours until it turns green.
I've read of rezounds dying from the battery going completely out. Screws it up somehow. Verizon also has thunderbolt external chargers for 5 bucks. You could use that to charge the battery (it fits), then try and turn it on. If it still won't turn on after charging, put the battery in and try and boot into the bootloader menu (power on and vol down at the same time), from there you can restore your nandroid or flash another ROM if it will boot to it.
I tried leaving the battery out for a few minutes, and then for the rest of the day. No dice in either case. I'll try to get an external charger tomorrow :/
Thanks for the ideas, I'll let you know how it goes.
Mine died overnight. Same symptoms, charging light for a few seconds then nothing. I plugged it in, let it sit for a while (didn't time it, but not more than 15 minutes). Unplugged it, then: held power, volume up and volume down all at the same time. It booted up, as soon as the screen came on, I plugged it back into the charger. Running fine now. Hope this helps someone else.
Went to Verizon today. I bought another battery and ordered an external charger. Swapped in the new battery and the phone started right up
Now I just hope I didn't screw anything up messing with the antenna contacts :/

After getting the new battery, does the orange LED come on while charging the phone when powered off? I replaced my battery after having the same problem and now the orange light does not stay on while the phone is charging when it is powered off. I guess it's no big deal, but it bothers me.

Yeah, it still works just fine. I turned it off just now and then plugged it in to check and the charging light came on immediately.
Maybe the battery is faulty or you got a thunderbolt battery by mistake and the phone is confused? Otherwise I have no clue why that would happen :/
I have them same problem. My phone is completely dead, won't turn on and a orange light comes on for 3 seconds and goes away and nothing happens. What do I need to do?
Sounds like your battery died. Pull the battery and let it sit for a few, then try to boot it back up and plug it in immediately.
I was reading a thread about this last night on RootzWiki. Dude did a lot of testing, came to find out it was ClockWorkMOD keeping a completely dead battery from charging at all. Is that the recovery you have? If so, I would put AmonRa on, try that.
Agreed, almost definitely a dead battery. You can try this:
1) Take out the battery and put it back in
2) Hold down power and volume down to enter the bootloader
3) Immediately plug the phone in and leave it there for 10 minutes or so
4) Reboot the phone now that you have enough power to make it through booting
This should work as long as your battery is completely dead.
My suggestion for the future though is to buy an external charger and a second battery. That's what I did, and now any time I accidentally let my battery die I just swap it out and I'm good to go at 100% while the other one recharges. Also an external charger is the easiest way to fix this if your battery is too dead for the above method.

Also, remember that if you are using Clockwork Recovery for some reason that makes the phone not charge when its powered down. I had the similar issue where i couldnt get it to charge or come on at all, i put in a battery from my TBolt and it turned right on, switched Recovery to Amon Ra (Blue one, not the Red one) and from there it charged no problem!
worked...

This absolutely helped me! I'm really liking this Rezound I picked up but the damn thing is also just very temperamental in general. Still a fantastic underrated device overall though.
My wifes d2g did that once. I ended up taking an old charger, stripping the ends off and taping it to the contacts on the battery for 30 minutes. It charged it up and after that it would charge thru the phone again. A lot cheaper than a new battery.

[Q] Help please!! phone bricked possibly?

Last night I was using my phone and turned it on sleep due to having <10% battery life left. I tried turning it back on am hour and a half later and it didn't so assumed it drained, so I threw it in the charger but the battery didn't turn on. I left it in the charger over night. I woke up and tried turning it on but it still didn't budge. I tried letting it charge through both my macbook, my chromebook, several different cables and outlets, all for around 10 minutes each. My phone still won't turn on.. Nothing happens when I try to boot into CWM (volume rocker and power button hold method) I now think it may be bricked and I need to get it back to a working condition soon...
My phone is the AT&T SGSII (i777) running MIUI 2.3.7 1.12.30 (newest version) under the Siyah 2.6.3 (also newest version)
Is there any way I can fix this?? I saw somethings about these 'jigs' but is there a way fix it without using a jig and only using a computer? Can someone tell me what could possibly be wrong?? Please help me!!
*PS my macbook can dualboot into windows 7, otherwise my phone wouldn't be rooted
Hmm, LPM might be broken in MIUI.
Try this, I saw one person indicate that it worked:
Enter download mode by holding VolUp + VolDn when inserting a USB cable from a PC.
DO NOT try to flash anything - just let it sit there for 5-10 minutes!
After that, hold Power for 10-15 seconds until the device resets.
Again, DO NOT try to flash anything!
The other option is to find a standalone charger.
And next time - if it's at 10%, put it on a charger!

All the SGS2 i777 phones come with a plugin wall charger, why not give that a try.......
If you cannot find the charger, you can buy one for less than 3 bucks including shipping on Amazon.com

Good Luck!
Something similar happened to me, where the battery drained so much that the phone wouldn't charge. When I plugged it into a computer/outlet, it just power cycled because as soon as you plug it in, the screen turns on (pretty stupid actually) and full brightness shows your battery "charging". Due to the phone not being able to directly pull power from the outlet (from what I can understand, if I plug in a charger and take the battery out, the phone shuts off) it can't charge fast enough, due to the screen and soft keys taking up the charge. I may be wrong, but this is what I think is happening.
Only way I could solve this was to plug the battery into my spare battery charger which came with my two spare batteries.
The thing is I can't put it into download mode or even recovery. Whenever I hold the volume buttons together when I plug it into my computer to access download mode, nothing happens and the screen remains blank and off. When I try doing the same thing and also hold the power button also to access Recovery mode, nothing happens, and the screen still is off. Every once in awhile when I try turning on the phone (which is plugged into an outlet) the 'battery charging' screen pops up for a split second and turns off. I have plugged it into Several different wall chargers (all that are Micro USB including the one the phone came with) along with several different Micro USB to USB cables to try to charge in the computer. It's definitely not the chargers nor the cables because they work with other devices. I think my phone is bricked... DX
why don't you buy another battery and see if that works if it doesn't just bring back the battery.....good luck

If the screen EVER turns on it's not bricked.
I suggest leaving it plugged in to a factory wall charger (not USB) overnight.
Worst case you may need a standalone charger to put some "juice" into the battery. I know Staples sells a universal one made by Lenmar, but it's really overpriced ($50!!!!)
I use this and i love it. It comes with an extra samsung battery too.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung--CGPK..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1325639756&sr=1-1
If anything, head to an AT&T store and pop the battery out of their test phone and put it into yours. See what happens, sounds like there's an issue with the charger or battery.

Thanks for all the help! I ended up going to the at&t store and they told me the battery was defective. The guy was super nice and even though he saw my phone was rooted and had a custom rom he just told me that I probably should unroot only for the warranty but gave me a new battery for free anyway and was very nice about it. I also bought a jig just incase anything goes wrong again. But seriously, thanks to all of you!!

SGS2 dead, can't unroot/wipe to return...problem?

I put my phone on the charger last night just like every other night, and awoke this morning to the screen frozen, displaying the time of 12:35am. No buttons were responding, so I pulled the battery and put it back in. It won't boot up, no lights, no nothing. Tried my spare batteries, still nothing. Tried all my chargers and nothing happens when plugged in. Dead.
Rooted, with UnNamed rom, but haven't flashed anything in months.
Is this thing dead, or can it be brought back with a jig?
EDIT: Thanks for the troubleshooting tips, but this baby is dead.dead...now I have to return it and hope that warranty stays intact...
This may sound stupid but, did you have the phone under your pillow while charging?

No it was docked in the Samsung charging stand...
Pull your battery and leave it out for at least 10 minutes... go for 30. Then put your battery back in and try it. The purpose is to completely deplete all of your electronic resistors and capacitors of any power.

Reason I asked is it can make the phone overheat, it happened to me and many others on here.
I woke up to the same situation as you did and had to pull the battery and wait a bit then charge it back cause it was dead.
Ok battery out for 30+ minutes, and popped it back in - still nothing, dead as a doornail...
Should I try a jig before taking it to warranty, just to make sure that they aren't going to be able to boot it and see I rooted?
If there's anything I can do to avoid having to go buy a phone at full price to get me through the weekend, that would be awesome...going out of town in the morning and can't be without a phone...
I had that happen to a Captivate. Go to an AT&T warranty place and they can swap it.

Yeah unfortunately it sounds pretty dead :-(
I had this happen a few months ago. I think it has to do with how it deals with a completely dead battery. The symptom is that the phone is either completely unresponsive or will show the battery logo with a circle and then quickly power off. This is how I got around it:
-First pull out the battery, and leave the back cover open.
-Get a microUSB cable plugged into your PC at the ready, but not plugged into the phone yet. This will not work with the wall charger.
-Hold down vol down, vol up, and power, and then plug in the USB cable. In a few seconds you'll see the download mode "Custom OS" dialog with a yellow triangle.
-Do not press any buttons after this point.
-Plug in the battery, and let it sit for 10-30 minutes.
-After the battery's had enough time to get a base charge, hold the power button until the screen turns black.
-If the battery has enough charge to begin charging, you should see the full-screen battery logo with a "progress wheel" circle in the middle change to the battery with the five dots below. This means the charger is now active.
-You can now let it charge off of USB, or move it to the wall charger for a faster charge.
Again, this is what's worked for me. Post here if you are having any luck with this method.
I have a Captivate that died on me in the exact same fashion two days ago. I'm deciding whether to wait a few months for new releases or just getting a SGSII. ATT is offering it for $10 with a contract renewal.
Since my phone is out of warranty, is there any other way to get it replaced?

Surprisingly I had the same EXACT situation occur as the OP. I set my phone down charged via USB last night and next morning I woke up to an extrememly luke warm phone with nothing turning on, it was a blank screen and I for sure thought the battery was dead...
Ended up at Radioshack in search for a spare battery to use, but the employee's were assholes and wouldn't let me borrow one from out of their SGS2 displays, so I decided at this point to just find a battery online and be phone-less for a few days.
Thanks to pokey for this little gameplan he had written out, , it appears there still is life in my lil' R2D2... at least it appears to be.
Edit: Yep it worked, just have to wait for it to charge now--those who have this problem follow pokey's steps and this should direct you on the right path. Good luck!!

Unfortunately this didn't work for me, thanks though, had high hopes and tried it several times. I picked up a jig and no life with that either. Dead.
Oh well...warranty phone is supposed to arrive today, can't wait to take back this WP7 abomination (had to try it).
So since this phone is verified as dead now, is there anything to worry about in sending it back through warranty since I'm unable to wipe/unroot it?
This scares the crap out of me since I just got my phone. Good tips to try if it does happen.
Can it be concluded that it has something to do with leaving the charger on it after it is fully charged? Maybe something with the voltage regulator(?) that tells the charger to stop charging when the battery is full.
I have dewalt drills that I swear lose life if you leave them on the charger for long periods of time consistently (even though they are to stop charging when the battery is full). Whats weird about these problems is that it killed the phone too, not just the battery.

Yes you should worry, at&t might not be able to get it up and running but Samsung will, and when they get the device up and running they will see the root & rom so expect a very large phone bill in 1-2 months.

Well that's just friggin' great
My sgsii died on me while rooted and I swapped it out for warranty and did not incure a bill from AT&T or Samsung. It's been about 6 months now so I'm pretty sure they just used it for spare parts.
The funny part of the story is my current sgsii died the other day won't turn on at all. Got my jig today and that doesn't work either. I will try pokeys method and hopefully it works for me.

While you could be correct, I don't see Samsung sinking the labor time into looking that closely. I'm guessing they just hook it up to something that'll push the firmware, test functionality, and send it out as a refurb.
I could very well be wrong, but when you get hundreds/thousands of dead devices like they do, its more cost effective to just keep it simple and move onto the next.
I've never returned a device, stock or customized, so this is just my guess based on experience working with a large corporation.

to my knowledge, what happened to put the phone in this state is the battery died while you were flashing a rom or something as such and the phone got confused on if it should be in charge mode or not.
being that the phone has a sealed battery, it is not as easy to pull out the battery as it is on other phones.
Fortunately for us, it is not difficult at all to unplug the battery!
REQ: torx screw driver that will fit but NOT STRIP the screws at the bottom of the phone.
Small phillips screw driver.
**I suggest charging the phone for a good 10 minutes before starting this. just to make sure it has a charge.
Step 1: unscrew the two screws at the bottom of the phone CAREFULLY!
Step 2: with your nails carefully pry up the back cover (inspect the phone carefully and identify the back cover from the rest of the phone.) off starting from the bottom of the phone.
Step 3: peel back the blue tape on the connector and remove the two screws.
Step 4: carefully pry up the connector from the top.
Step 5: plug back in and try powering on. By this point you should know if it worked and you can start putting the phone back together.
This guide is not the best (My first) but if you have any questions send me a message.
Good luck with your phones!
One of the first official LGOG teardown! Looks easier than expected..
@exemplarmusik sent from his LG - E970 ya dig?!
Awesome job, man. should come in handy for me at some point I am sure. I am curious though, those internals look identical to the Nexus 4's (as I guess we should expect) and I know the battery is glued down with the Nexus 4, so is that the case with our LGOG as well?
Yeah. The battery is glued in. I dont see an issue replacing it though. maybe a heat gun to losen up the glue and you should be good.
And yeah, it is very easy to open up.
This would have helped me last week. Oh well, got a replacement device and a free LG headset for my trouble.

I think it would only say that if unlocked, then you have N4 bootloaders.
I had this fast flashing "brick"-like issue, but after I let my phone cool, I just held power and vol-up and my phone went straight to the boot loader.

Damn, I didn't think it'd be that easy to take it apart. I wonder if it'd be possible to stick a Qi wireless charger pad in there, like the Nexus 4.
First of all, thanks for the guide. :good:
Here is what caused this to happen on my phone:
(black screen, flashing red light)
With phone off and charger plugged in you should be able to press power for a couple of seconds and it will show the charging progress. When you unplug the charger and press power you should see nothing unless you hold it long enough to power up the phone. Problem was that no matter how long you waited after unplugging the charger you could press power and see the progress ::what::
That causes the battery to drain, completely if left alone for a couple of days resulting in, you guessed it, black screen and flashing red light. After leaving it plugged in for 4-5 hours it regained a full charge and was fine.
This did not occur when phone was on while charging. Needless to say, I exchanged the phone. Hope this helps.
Don't assume you have any other pictures
I was considering trying to steal the signal amplifier and the filter from this and put in n4 ... and chance you got any shots of those in the optimus g ?
I still cant get mine to turn on, I unhooked the battery, still nothing. I hold the power it goes to the lg screen then nothing. I can hold power and volume up and nothing happens. Does anybody have a idea, I want my phone back.
Thanks
HELP!
My phone somehow will not turn on or charge! I have tried multiple chargers and outlets, and my phone will not charge or get the red light signaling that it is... There is no damage to the phone other than a small crack done a couple months prior. This happened very suddenly, the phone just ran out of batteries then stopped charging... is it possible to find the same battery as this and replace it?? My phone company said LG would not accept it because of the small crack on the front screen corner. Any help would be very greatly appreciated, really dont have the money to buy a phone off contract...

My phone is same yours. you plug and unplug somes times untill red light flash then push power button. goodluck
Wow looks like there are connectors on the back to go to the inside of the back cover... I wonder if this is compatiable with the orbe!... if not it should be easy to use old Palm Touchstone parts to make it charge wirelessly.
I have the sprint version I am hoping it has the same connectors... You guys see the two prongs on the back cover adn the metal places they attach to??

Those prongs are for connecting to the antenna in the back cover, not a wireless charger.

I could use some help guys, if this thread isn't too old. I've searched high and low to the answer here and nothing is working. I've tried download mode, fastboot, recovery, reset, holding power down, plugging it in and unplugging it. I've pulled the plate off of the battery, tried LGNPST, drivers, etc. No go on anything.
The phone is still dead, and will not turn on. The best I've gotten is a solid red light after holding the power button for 15-20 seconds. Then after about 3-5 seconds it resumes flashing (alternating between the red light and the key buttons). If I continue holding the power button down it will repeat this, showing solid red and then reverting to flashing.
I can not get the screen to display anything, not even the charging animation, and none of my computers will even recognize the device. I've been messing with it all day and I'm stuck. If anyone can help me, at all, please do. I hate going to Sprint. Anything but that, please.

me too.
I was doing the LGNPST and it was stuck at 67% for 15 min so i unplugged and the phone did nothing so I turned it off from recovery and nothing. no power only the power flashes red for a few seconds after pressing.
I am out of town now but if I can get it to turn back on I will send it back since I just received it today.
Unfortunately, my phone is now completely unresponsive. I have had it plugged in to the original wall charger for over two hours and still no power. If i hold down the power button for about 15 seconds while plugged in the red light will blink once every second until i let go. However, if I unplug it and do the same the light will not come on. I'm about to disassemble my brick and see if the battery pull will help any.
Any success stories in detail would be appreciated. Plan B is to send it off to Mobiletechvideos.
Edit: Moving on to plan B....thanks.

I did this trick a couple weeks ago when my phone stopped responding. Could only get flashing light while plugged in, and no response when not plugged in. Eventually while plugged in I could get to the bootloader, but could not get to recovery. This fix worked for me, though it may not work for you. You will need a T5 torx (star) screwdriver. Good luck.
