[REQ] Stock 1.6 Keyboard for 2.2 ROM - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

After flashing to 2.1 I really dislike the keyboard it came with and miss the stock 1.6 one.
I would donate several beers to anyone willing to port the 1.6 keyboard to my 2.1 device.
Which one does XDA members prefer?
EDIT:
After giving it some thought, my main gripe with the new 2.1 keyboard is no arrows (left and right mostly) and no num pad. Also you have to go into the number area to access the question mark.
EDIT2:
Cypher84 posted a keyboard in another thread linking to a Droid X multitouch keyboard. Look no further, this is the best of the best functionality wise:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775752
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713565 (actual thread including apk)

I would add several beers too !

tbh I'm struggling with my limited knowledge of android to see why it's not working..
I've run the 1.6 with the ddms debugger running, it's segfaulting, but I really can't see why it's doing it.

I look forward to this tweak too as I miss the arrow buttons on the 2.1 keyboard. My fingers are a little too big to place the cursor where I want in text fields.

Bump... ...
Has anybody got the 1.6 keyboard working with 2.1 yet?
The official 2.1 update comes out here in the UK on Wednesday and the new keyboard looks terrible.

Would also like to mention that I would also love the 1.6 keyboard for 2.1

[Q] Restore the 1.6 notification bar/sliding app drawer?

Right, so back when the X10 was on Android 1.6 it had quite a nice thin notification bar, and the sliding app drawer was rather nice too, but ever since 2.1 they've both been replaced, and the notification bar is bigger and closer to stock Android size. My question is...is there some way, either involving internal tinkering, flashing a new ROM or whatever, to bring back the old, thin notification bar without having to downgrade to 1.6 again? Can the same be done with the old app drawer?
(Also, first post here, so hi. I know my way around a forum usually, and I did some extensive searching before asking but to little effect.)
It is not possible mate. I really liked it too.

I was afraid of that; though on the face of it it would seem that it should be possible, at least in theory. I suppose one way would be contacting Sony Ericsson about it as an optional inclusion in a 2.1-based update or adding into 2.3, but that seems pretty unlikely.
EDIT: Or if it's possible to dualboot 1.6 with 2.1 somehow, it would be worth trying.
sorry for reviving an old thread, Im on the arc now but i have an x10....i really want the sliding drawer back. Can anyone on 1.6 post the home apk, see if its installable with some tweaks? thanks!

Get gingerbread keyboard on galaxy s II

I just got my galaxy s 2 today n beim using it fr a few hours. Came from the nexus one n im missing pure android feel to apps.
I also cant seem to figure out how to get the dictionary working on the samsung keyboard or swype n i seem to miss the old keyboard layout too.
Is it just a simple case of finding the apk n installing it?

Gingerbread keyboard:
Search for "Keyboard from Android 2.3" in the Market.
is it reliable though? do you know from where i can get the actual one?the official one?
Sorry can't test it, my S2 is still on its way :-(
But I read about it and afaik it's ok.
I don't know if there is an "official" gingerbread keyboard for the S2, I think the one in the market is the best you can get.
Don't sue me if it's not true - This is just based on my little research
I have the CM7 keyboard as I much prefer it thanks to the long press delay option that the normal 2.3 KB does not have.
Just pull the apk from the CM7 ROM zip and install using the SGS file manager, simples

found it..but ended up using the Keyboard for Android 2.3 from the market because the keys in that are bigger!
Do you find that you don't get the dictionary come up in the email program though? It works in Handcent SMS, but not in email for me... (when using the market GB Keyboard I mean)

Hi
I don't think it is an official version rather it should be a mod version. I am using it for the last one week from the time i had S II and it works fine for me.

I installed the CM7 KB but I can't get the haptic feedback to work.
How did you manage this?
when i installed the CM7 keyboard, when i switch to landscape it cuts off the area where you would normally see the typed words, this is not good.
any way to shrink down the size, or get rid of the line with the extra characters?

[Q] Stock SE SMS/Dialer/Contact for CM7 ?

Hi !
Everything is in the title
I'm looking for SE stock apps to use them as replacement for SMS/dialer/contact, because I don't like the ones built in CM6/7. So, is there anyone who have managed to use them with CM7 ?
Thanks you in advance
BTW : The stock 4 corners launcher would be nice too
(Or maybe we should wait for the next x10 mini/pro and get the new rom to butcher it and port it to our phone :/)
I am looking for it too please
T9
Can't help you on the stock progs, but, take a look at Go SMS Pro and TouchPal Dialer. I found them way better than both CM and stock dialers/sms

Indeed, Touchpad dialer is fine, even if the fonts are very small :-/
Go Sms seems good too, not totally at my taste, because again of the fonts' size, but it would do the job

Have you figured what to do with with the in-call screen? When I use in-call dialpad (to browse throught voice menus) the bottom rows (7890) are hidden ...
I use external keyboard for that..
Any ideas?
Thanks
Not a clue :-S, sorry

About that, we know now why SE did choose the four corners ui xD ... To gain some place for things like a dialer :-S

I used both ICS and JB keyboards but none supports swype typing on HTC flyer the way stock keyboard does. Further, funnily none keyboard provides number key line on top of regular text keys hence ICS/JB keyboards were useless without these two features. Why cannot these developers create option to use 7 inch screen to fullest by adding one more line so that users dont need to keep shifting for typing numbers.

Keyboard recommendations?

I've got a htc sensation which I rooted a while back, and have been using virtuous inquisition since then. Since that rom was sense based, I've been using the sense keyboard and liked how i could have it in a phone keypad layout. This one was modded too to have arrows for moving the cursor around which was great since tapping the screen in exactly the right place is a real pain in the arse.
Thing is I've now recently changed to cm10 which isn't sense based, so the sense keyboard has gone. The standard keyboard only has the full keyboard layout, so the buttons are too small for me.
Apparently you can't make the sense keyboard work with it, so I've tried go launcher's keyboard, multilang and a few other free ones, but none of them are perfect. Can anyone recommend a decent keyboard to me which will work as I want?
Perfect keyboard. First app I download when I flash a new rom, highly customizable.
SwiftKey. I believe it's still on sale, but there is a free trial.
Best keyboard ever.

+1 bought it, very nice, using it without correctionstuff, i´m an oldschoolwriter a lot of customizations as mentioned
Just tried perfect keyboard and yeah it seems nice. I've got my desired layout and cursors, and the dictionary works well enough to be used without fuss. Can I make it so that it doesn't suggest words longer than what I've typed? For example if I type aunt it suggests words more than four letters long, like cumulative. Any way of making it stick to the correct number of letters?

SwiftKey. I've been using it for a while, and even when I'm not typing English -with English being the only dictionary installed) it still offers me corrections (although they're not automatically selected, which is good).
It literally learns how you type.
Right, I've tried SwiftKey, a.i.type and jellybean keyboards and none of them appear to let me choose the layout that I want.
That perfect keyboard seems alright, but how can I stop it suggesting words longer than what I typed?

Yes. I have never used predictive text/spelling as I hate it so know naff all about it.
To be honest I think its a crap suggestion because the whole idea of predictive is to help you place long words by only typing a few letters so it will never work the way you want.
For me smart-keyboard is perfect. You can use ready made skins or create your own quite easyly.

Swift key works great once it learns how u type. Really saves me time.
