OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! HELP.....pleaseeee??????? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can't FU**ING believe it...just dropped my phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Result = phone works, but screen is SMASHED, in a big way!!!
ARRGHHHHH....can't belive it.
Had it in a nice protector as well - it hit the concrete, protector came off, split in 3 bits and screen totally wiped out, smashed....gutted.
I'm on orange contract, didn't pay for any extra insurance, but only had the phone for just under 3 months....will i be able to get it replaced for free????
If not, can someone please, pretty please recommend a good site etc on where I can buy a new screen?>??
do I buy just the screen or have to buy other bits??
any help would be sooooo much appreciated.
thnaks
Matt

Grim!
I would not recommend you buying a screen and installing it your self, not unless your very handy, but this will void your warranty.
I would send it to HTC service centre (have a look on the web) and get it repaired professionally.
It will cost you around 150 quid but will still be warrantied.

I dropped mine, screen was fine but the underneath didnt work.
Sent it to the repair center, may cost like 100-150 but I know it will be done properly

im not claiming to have any experience fittin a hd2 screen, but i have fitted a lg cookie lcd screen replacement when i dropped my old phone, and its easier to replace than you might think.
In the lg cookie (touch screen as well) it is a bit trickey, but as long as you write down where the cables went, (there was about 3) then its just a simple case of re-connecting the ribbon cable to the screen.
Not as hard as you might think, just open it up and have a look.
Yes the warrenty might void, but how often do phones just decide to break on there own anyway??

http://www.xvillage999.com/product_info.php?language=en&currency=GBP&products_id=3460
seems decent, somes with a pry tool and the correct screwdriver to get it open.
Just make sure you dont get any dust on it when your fitting it! lol

Just in case if you want to repair it yourself, look at the assembling and disassembling training video from HTC.
You can find them here at least you will know which tools to use and which order has to be followed.
and here you can download the complete service manual

Update = my House insurance is paying for a brand new phone..hehehe.
Well, not yet, but got a nice cheque off them for £450.
WAS tempted to look at the HTC Desire...but..NAHH...just can't resist the HD2.
Or should I wait for the HD3>????
what would you do??
cheers
Matt

Cracked my screen need replacement for BA any ideas!!

Help!! Need a replacement screen for my BA anybody have a spare or know where to get a replacement screen for a reasonable price. Not sure how I broke it but there is a crack down the center of the screen and now it w'ont work.
I am really sorry for you. I cracked my iPAQ screen a while ago and found a replacement at ipaqrepair.co.uk....but I guess they are only for iPAQs
I know how you must feel
Thanks will check it out anyway and yes totally gutted I use the BA for everything like having my right arm cut off ,
Have noticed that it is only the glass that is cracked it is not bleeding at all and i think that the digitizer is only mlfunctioning because of the crack is it possible just to replace the glass panel and not the lcd display?
Try calling HTC Europe at 08712-23-0217. Leave a message and they will call you back in a day time. Just tell them your problem and see how much would they charge for it. I've got my under warranty HTC Charmer to them TWICE for some speaker/motherboard problem, and so far so good. Their service is better than I expect from a Taiwan company.

Yes it is, there are 2 distinct types of digitiser though, the sony and the toppolly one. There is another poster selling just a digitiser, I went into more detail in that thread. HTCEurope a: won't repair and XDA IIs and b: won't swop just the digitiser, they swop the entire LCM assembly.
Richard
Just been quoted £125 to repair the screen by a company called Apex, trouble is the phone only cost me £150 in my book thats beyond econmical repair if it was a car it would be a write off.I think it will have to be an insurance job (get a free one with bank account) unless someone comes up with a reasonable price on a used one.

The sony one he has can be 'widenend' to fit any LCD so it doesn't matter what's in your phone - just remove the warranty seal completley - the odds are they won't repair your handset they'd just replace anyway if you claim on insurance as they would have to use new parts - no trawling ebay for them to fix your phone....
Richard
Well guys sent my BA off to the insurance company and had a phone call today said they could not repair or replace it, and then THEY DESTROYED MY PHONE and then they said they can give me a cash settlement or the choice of Nokia n91 or the n90 what do you guys think, what should I go for? and more to the point how much would the cash settlement be as you can no longer get the blue angel anymore new that is.
Anybody been in this situation would not mind the n91 but it is not satnav capable at the moment and I need this capability.
Check the prices on somewhere like expansys, get the more expensive, flog it on ebay, buy a 2nd hand blueangel.
I sold a boxed MDA III for just £100 on there the other week :-(
PM me and I might be able to help if you need it sourcing one.
Can't fix it my @$$.....muppets.
They should not have destroyed your phone and infomed you after the event IMO.
EDIT - IIRC expansys do still have the [email protected] £600. Ask them for a cheque!!!!!...
Richard
Yes was surprised they did not ask me first but oh well still have the mini s just like having the bigger screen for sat nav loooking t expansys think your right I'll go for the money.
Update insurance have coughed up £450 not bad considering I only got it for £150

Broken glass/lcd

Hi.
Where can I buy a replacement LCD for HTC Herald? Is it difficult to replace it myself?
The best place to purchase a screen would be straight from china. If you want I can contact my link in china for the price of an lcd, or you can try and find one on e-Bay. I've done quite a few lcd and housing replacements for Pocket Pc devices and I suggest that you dont do it unless you know what you are doing. One of my friends even took his device to a real technician and he still messed it up. My suggestion would be to find a certified technician and make sure that they offer a warranty service for 3-6 months after the servicing.
EDIT: you must find the HTC model number of the LCD, and use that to search. Even though its the same size as the wizards, the flex cable might be in a different position. Also I think it would be quite hard to change without a corresponding service manual. My LCD was replaced also, but at the time it was still under international warranty, so I decided to send it in to HTC. HTC also modded my phone by adding an extra plate in between the slide out keyboard and the screen, has made the slide out more sturdy.

Do you have a link for a china webshop where they have it?
I will contact them when I get home and get them to send an English link to their website. In the meantime try to find a service manual for the Herald.
I don't mean to advertise, but I got my LCD from here when I cracked mine.

$60 for a perfect OEM screen with touch sensor is a DAMN fine deal, and they were pretty much the only site I could find under a hundred bucks.

That's a damn nice site! too bad I would not risk repairing it myself, and going to a technical repair guy with your own stuff is not an option lol
i got a replacement screen from CNN.CN via fedex and it arrived in 3 days. fitted it myself, as i have replaced several phone housings in the past. it can be a bit of a mission, took me 2 hours with rest breaks and no rushing.
as long as your patient and methodical, it can be done yourself.

Broken Display

I must have hit the S740 at an unfortunate angle; now there is a spider web allover the outer display (the glass). The display still functions, but with the web being rather dense, it is not sustainable much longer.
Do any of you know a good and not too expensive supplier of a spare? Saw one on eBay, but there you are never sure of course (would prefer a new rather than used one)
Thanks !
www.shope2.com
Thank you redkallo !
Just placed the order; and although their website produced some glitches, it seems to have worked. What is amazing is the extremely low shipping cost !
Now let's hope it will arrive here sooner or later ..
How easy is it to replace that screen? Would i need to disassemble anything?
I plan to bring it to a repair shop in the neighbourhood. It can be done surely by yourself; but you would know exactly what you are doing
look here http://rapidshare.com/files/209474388/HTC_Rose_Service_Manual_A03_GENERIC.pdf
I replaced the display by myself. It is not easy. I purchased the display on eBay for 30€. I took me 2 hrs to dismantle and assemble the device. You need a large dose of patience and sensitive fingers.
You need to get to all the six screws to get to the display, three of them are hidden beneath the keyboard. To do that you will have to get the keyboard part off the sliding tracks. To do that you will have to first open the very back by peeling off the keyboard by a credit card not to damage the parts inside.
You will have to be extremely careful. Or pay twice in a service if you have a lack of courage.

[Q] Cracked Screen -- Repair/Replace?

My wife's Rezzie has a cracked screen. Nothing seems to have caused it. All was fine when she put it on the counter. An hour later, it's got cracks running all across it. The digitizer still works. It doesn't appear that any shards have worked loose.
A quick check on eBay shows that used Rezounds are going for around $200. That's not a great deal, since we've got a discounted upgrade available at VZW (though we'd have to extend our contract -- yuk). The phone is off warranty and doesn't have insurance on it any more.
There's an excellent repair place near where we live that can do the work in an hour, but they charge about $175. The parts seem to be available on Amazon for about $30-$50. However, the quality and results for DIY repairs appears to be somewhat mixed, and the process looks to be a bit involved.
So -- do we leave the phone as-is? Try and repair it ourselves? Send it in for repair? Buy a used one? Buy something else? Interested in y'all's thoughts.
Personally, and I say personally cuz I'm good with detail and following instructions, I'd say try to fix it your self if you mess up your out like fifty bucks and have to get a new phone anyways.. but that's just me I just ordered a LCD, digitizer, and tools off eBay for my incredible gonna give it a try my self in few days.

I got my replacement glass/digitizer for $20.
Just be careful to document all your steps if you do it yourself, as I forgot to put the pieces for the capacitive lights back in.

[Q] Cracked Screen..

So on my way from the car to the train station this morning, I managed to drop my phone on the ground.. I've dropped it a couple of times before, and nothing had ever happened.. but this time as soon as I dropped it I knew I wasn't getting that lucky this time. Maybe its the freezing temperatures, I don't know.. but my screen now has massive spiderwebbing in two of the corners, and cracks running all over the screen. The last day to do returns for the holidays (which is when I bought it) was January 15. I also didn't get insurance.. am I screwed? :/
I have seen operable cracked screen DNA's go for about $300-400 on eBay. In the long run you could do that and then buy one second hand without a cracked screen for about $450-$500, so in reality a $100 screen replacement
You could also have a shot yourself here. The internals don't look very hard to be honest
You can get some ideas here also
Contact a HTC repair centre first and maybe it works out cheaper?
Good luck

Thanks for the information! I'm not sure how much I trust myself taking apart my phone, but I may not have another choice. HTC RMA is asking $220, and it would take 7-10 business days (not including shipping).. I may potentially buy the screen shown in your link and try to do it myself. Although it says "Digitizer Touch Screen", it would only be the glass I'd be replacing, correct? The capacitive layer is still working perfectly fine, so I don't want to mess with that..

It would be the entire assembly you're replacing, it all comes as one unit rather than the glass and digitizer separately. From what I've seen from the pictures of the disassembled DNA, it doesn't LOOK as though it would be terribly difficult.

My thoughts exactly. Just make sure all of the cables are the correct length on the eBay items. (I have received 2 screens for 2 different models that had short flex cables) and I tried to force one of them and it snapped, the other one the guy said they were all the same so he refunded me. You could check if any other eBay users that have purchased them have left positive feedback too.
It would be awesome if genuine dealers were entitled to sell the screens but they are OEM and only to be installed by a qualified repair centre. LAME HUH!
However, DNA looks pretty basic and you could always post pictures of your progress and get some help from us guys if you get stuck Good luck guy
