[Q] Help a Newbie - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi...
I've been trying to run Froyo on my HTC HD2 (UK Provider - O2) and ran into problems.
I followed the instructions.
I updated the HSPL to 2.08 on my phone
I switched off the backlight as advised
But - when I started the install, it freezes after a few lines and the phone gets stuck on a black screen so I need to remove the battery to boot again.
Its been suggested that I need to flash the custom ROM and upgrade the Radio. No idea how to do this so....
Any chance of some step by step instructions from the experts and also what to expect. Will it wipe my contacts list etc?
I know its a pain but greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Quick Suggestion
Just an idea dude, read the sticky's before posting....

Someone else has probably had the same issue, or similar. Have a THOROUGH search in the Q&A Forum then ask the question. Keeps things tidy that way

To All, my plea

To All and specially moderator,
I recently just lost all rom image and now my himalaya are totally dead, because I try to upgrade software from a program.
Probably you have seen many of these posting from a newbie like myself. Speaking of the truth, even after browsing many hours in this forum I still have no Idea at all how to restoring my operating system.
Well, my plea is, could one of the senior/expert on this forum to post new instruction how to restore the rom (even how to upgrade to wm2003SE, one by one, not just reverting to old post) I believe many of newbie ( lack of software knowledge) have the same problem with me.
Thank you.
Regards.
Do you get anything on screen, do you have "serial", when you connect to usb do you get "usb" on screen. If yes then you just need to download original rom for your phone and restart flashing procedure. If there is nothing on screen I cant help, sorry.

Power outage during ROM upgrade

I need help!!
I recently purchased a mint condition T-mobile HTC 9500. I was able to unlock it, and was using LumpiStefan's ROM cooking utility to remove some of the T-mobile specific items on my device. Picked out everything I wanted, downloaded the ROM and began the updating process. I did a full backup on my device and saved it to my hard drive before I began the upgrade.
About halfway through the upgrading process, there was a power outage in my neighborhood. The phone is now stuck on the upgrade screen, and Active Sync no longer recognizes my device.
I have read about and downloaded the XDA tools package, but cannot seem to get the OSImage tool to extract any info from my full backup on to an SD card so I can reflash the device in bootloader (version 5.15). I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here...
Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
...never mind!!
OK, so after further reading and exploration on this site, I figured it out!!
I'll know better next time
anyway - This is an excellent site. Thanks to all who have made it so...

my apologies for asking a question that seems to have been asked before ifn a different thread, somehow missed those threads when i was looking through the forum the first couple of times.

ROM update failure, sync problem??

Hi,
Sorry to stat a thread on this but can't find anything similar.
I've flashed a lot of ROM's prior. Thought I was fairly comfortable with it.
Currently, I have EnergyROM 6.5 and wanted to try another.
I can establish the connection with phone/computer (1st beep), then the second beep happens (activesync). Then I run the AthenaWrapper and it starts. It restarts the phone. I hear the first beep but never the second. The progress bar stays at 0% and eventually there is a communication error.
This happens with NATF's 6.5 ROM as well as the stock ATT rom.
Any suggestions on fixing this problem?
PS - the 'contacts' button at the bottom of the home screen... are those remapable? I have a mandatory program (Good Messaging) which has its own contacts program. Once I've installed it, the contacts button goes to it instead of the built-in contacts. That's not what I want.

I had no idea what "Athenawrapper" was until I Googled Athena. The good news is I've solved your problem. The bad news is that you have a PEBCAK
error.
"Athena" is an entirely different piece of hardware from a Raphael , so it's RUU WILL NOT WORK with a Raphael. Frankly, I think you're lucky you didn't succeed in bricking the phone completely. You need to use the RaphaelWrapper to flash a Raphael.
On the off chance that you actually have an Athena, and are trying to flash it with a Raphael ROM, then you're still begging to have your hardware bricked. Most ROMs are not compatible outside of the hardware for which they are written.
You need to:
Figure out what hardware you have.
Go to that bulletin board.
Read the sticky threads there to learn how to flash properly.
Get to work.
Hi,
Well your explanation makes sense... however, the stock ATT ROM I downloaded from the raphael ROM development section and have successfully flashed a prior Fuze with before (I had to return it for warranty). It is the same file that worked then, that is not now.
But it is not working now AFTER I tried the NATF ROM which I'm pretty darn sure I directly downloaded from a link in the Raphael section. Perhaps it was a misguided link or something, and then it damaged the phone such that previously working ROM's now won't flash?
Chris
addendum...I know for sure it was the NATF ROM from Raphael section...
it is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539513
If you did a HardSPL to load NATF's ROM, then you cannot flash back to the OEM ROM without first removing HardSPL.
So (and this is the second time in as many days ), here's my recommendation:

Here's my recommended procedure:
Back up your PIM data, if needed.
Remove HardSPL.
Run your service provider's ROM installation.
Install HardSPL.
Download the NATF ROM (YES...DO IT AGAIN)
Flash the ROM.
Hard reset when you get to the screen alignment.
Yes, I know I'm yelling, but that's because you don't appear to be paying attention.
It would also be helpful if you'd put your device info in your user signature.

Re-downloading the NATF ROM ensures that you don't have a corrupted copy.
Myrddin,
Interesting name, how do you pronounce that?
1) I learned from you today about the HardSPL having to be removed. That I did not know, so thank you.
2) Back on the computer I flash with, I confirmed the wrapper files... first line does say Raphael Wrapper, under that it says Athenawrapper, then under that it says LSD creations.
3) I'll assume since you quoted your previous advice, the yelling and not paying attention comments were not directed at me
4) I'll do what you instruct master!
That's why we like the wise sages of the forum!

It's Welsh, and it's pronounced Merlin, most of the time (Merthin is more accurate, though).
No, the yelling was not exactly directed at you, just at newbies everywhere. Take no offense, I merely wanted to place a great deal of emphasis on certain aspects of the process. It helps us help you.

Hi,
Well, somehow I managed to get back to the stock ATT Rom. I'm not sure how to remove HardSPL specifically as searching that topic doesn't bring up any specific threads (at least in the Raphael forum).
I thought since I had got the ATT rom to work, I coul ddo a 6.5 ROM, but I'm running into the same communication error I had before.
Very specifically, everything starts up fine. It causes my phone to restart.
The USB connection noise happens, but then I never get the activesync alert noise, so the download indicator stays at 0% and I get a communication error.
If I just plug my phone into the computer, it starts up activesync just fine.
Any suggestions? And if it is HardSPL, where's the instructions to remove that?
Thanks again,
Chris
Well shoot,
It must be my lucky day.. I did find some instructions for hardspl, did that.. and I think things are about to be working...
Nevermind on the last post for now!

Hey everybody,
My phone is stuck in an infinite restart loop when i tried to revert back to the original rom without replacing the hardspl. Is there anything that can be done for that?

Most often this is the result of a bad flash or a corrupt ROM. Try putting the phone in Bootloader mode (see the wiki for instruction), and download the ROM again (delete your old copy to avoid confusion). Try the flash once more, and don't forget to do a hard reset when you get to the screen calibration the first time.

hero flashing after rom

Hi Guys!
After rooting my hero g2 i put on a new rom, this one... romraid.com/paul/hero/3.1-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip followed all the steps on the site and when i'd finished and rebooted the hero the Hero screen came up and the wee android waved at me, then the screen came up with "screen locked" and when i tried to swipe it to unlock it wouldnt move, i also noticed there was no signal to the phone, after rebooting it it did the same thing again but this time i managed to swipe and unlock it, it then had the loading circle in the centre of the screen but this froze and then the Hero and HTC startup screen came on again, again, it would unlock if i was quick and the timer circle started and again froze, then went back to the Hero and HTC screen and it just keeps on repeating this.
I have to pull the battery to switch it off. Any help would really be appreciated, there isnt much about technical stuff here (cos i'm a noob at this) but if theres anything you need to know to identify the problem and hopefully give me an answer, Please! ask, i'll let you know, oh! and there's now never a signal (although the correct time came up) the signal bars have an X across them but i usually get 3 bars.
Nothing happens when i try to connect to PC
Any help really would be appreciated.
Thanks
First of all.
1. Did you wipe before flashing the custom ROM?
2. Did you follow any advice on particular versions of the Radio that may be required for your ROM?
3. Are you using a GSM Hero? You said Hero G2, which sort of implies that it may be a T-Mobile G2 Touch and thus GSM, but it is worthwhile checking!
Regards,
Dave
The following steps should be considerable:
1, Wipe your phone(If you don't know what that is, search "Recovery" first. Such action will make you lose ALL YOUR DATA). Madaco do not force wipe your phone but if you don't do so, it stuck there just like yours.
2, Flash madaco rom a second time (don't wipe AFTER it, wipe BEFORE flashing it.)
3, Boot your phone, your contacts should be there if your login to gmail account and once synced them before.
Good luck
Hi, yes i did a wipe before flashing as told to in the guide. My phone is a Hero G2 Touch uk GSM on T-mobile, i didnt have anything to do with radio, could that be the problem?
thanks guys
Hi, is there any way i can set the phone back to original, as it was before i put on the new ROM? or will i need to do something else? this is my first android and my first attempt at loading a custom ROM and this happened, so i'm really not sure how to go about things, i know you guys are experts in this game but i'm just starting out, if anyone could give me some detailed help, i would be very grateful. We all gotta start somewhere!
Thanks guys.

Well, Paul @ MoDaCo strongly suggests updating to the latest radio for MoDaCo 3.1 (see his post here), so it is certainly worth a go if you still have the stock radio that shipped with your G2 Touch.

Dave
